Yo Goldenheart and Nimona nation, do i ever have good news for you!
Do you like homoerotic betrayals?
Do you like lovers best friends being torn apart upon finding themselves on the opposite sides of a war? Where each is burdened with the responsibilities from their chosen role?
Tumblr media
Do you like couples where one half represents the oppressive regime and the other half embodies EVERYTHING the said oppressive regime hates? Where the one half, acting as a tool of violence and subjugation for the oppressive regime, has to HUNT DOWN and ARREST the other half who has sworn to attack the oppressive regime head on?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you like couples with opposing colour schemes? Where one half embodies a particular element and the other half embodies a contrasting element? Do you like couples who are each other's foils? DO YOU LIKE COUPLES WHO ARE THEMATIC PARALLELS TO EACH OTHER??
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Do you like a story that's rich in symbolism? Rife with metaphors? A movie that you can rewatch again and again and STILL discover new stuff to lose your mind over?

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, you do! You like Nimona!
And ho boy, are you gonna LOVE RRR. Because this movie has got ALL of that and then some more. It's an epic, it's a war movie, it's a love story, it's highly symbolical, it's going to take your heart and rip it into two. And you will thank it for that.
Hmm, Enigma. But where can I watch it? 🤔
It's available on Netflix but only as the dubbed Hindi version. It's pretty good for a dub as the actors dubbed their characters themselves and the director oversaw the translation but! But! Listen! There is a magic in the original Telugu version and if you want to experience it, then thank @charcubed for this post where you can download the original Telugu version in crisp HD with English subtitles FOR FREE
There is a third option. You can stream it for free in Einthusan here. However, the quality of the Einthusan stream is not good, and if there is one movie that DESERVES to be watched in crisp HD quality? Trust me, it's RRR
Tumblr media
So, what are you waiting for? Go watch it, RIGHT NOW. Seriously

The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes dir: Billy Wilder, 1970
Tumblr media
I only watched The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes for the first time a few days ago but it lights my brain up in that special way that I know I’ll revisit it a lot. Don’t get me wrong, it’s far from perfect, for one thing Colin Blakely’s Watson is a little too shouty for me, but it’s very worthwhile to check out despite its shortcomings, which I think mostly come from the fact that so much was cut from the intended script.
I absolutely love Robert Stephens as Holmes. His face is so good, he has a way of looking at Watson when he doesn’t know he’s being observed that is very soft. I thought I was hallucinating the beginning of this movie with Holmes telling the ballet dancer he’s gay and in a relationship with Watson. I thought it was going to be played for a joke, and it was a bit, but it didn’t just end there. Holmes and Watson have a conversation about the repercussions in a lengthy scene that turns very serious by the end. I can’t believe this was 1970 and no one has since tried to build on this specific dynamic in a more meaningful way. Someone needs to remake this into a mini-series exactly how Billy Wilder intended it to be, here’s hoping public domain can make it so.
Tumblr media
[above: script page from the cut story The Curious Case of the Upside Down Room, where Watson creates a fake case to make Holmes feel better]
Also, the backstory of the making of this film is so out of control: Robert Stephens’s nervous breakdown and suicide attempt during the production, the amount of years Billy Wilder was trying to write it and get it made, the interference of ACD’s son, the Loch Ness monster prop that the crew lost in actual Loch Ness, the immense scope of the episodic story they were going for, the way it got cut down from its original 3 hour 45 minute runtime and how that cut footage was lost forever! (this is crazy! everyone go check your attics and storage lockers right now).
In one of the interviews I found, Robert Stephens says “if something is boring — if it’s three minutes long it’s too long, but if it’s interesting it’s never long enough…you don’t want it to end.” Big same Toby Stephens’ dad, big SAME. I didn’t want it to end. I read the uncut script and I am just floored at what we missed out on. Thankfully some footage and audio remain of some of the cut scenes (but still! check your basements too).
Just fully let it settle into your brain that they filmed all of these stories in the script, and then cut most of it away. Like that is mind-blowing to me, it existed at one point as it was fully intended to be. If this was made now during home entertainment times, they would have no problem releasing an almost four-hour movie, but at the very least there would be a big director’s cut dvd release and we would be enjoying all the small Holmes x Watson moments we deserve.
Anyway, in pretty short order I found a bunch of interesting links to stuff, details below. I also consulted my very well-thumbed Conversations with Wilder book by Cameron Crowe, but there wasn’t that much more information in there. I have Robert Stephens’ memoir Knight Errant and the TPLOSH blu-ray on order so I’ll add to this post if I find any more good resources. Let me know if I’m missing anything, and enjoy!
Full movie on YouTube (x) <-update: this link went private, but it's also streaming for free on Tubi and Freevee, and available to rent on YouTube, Google Play, and Apple TV
Original roadshow draft of script on Internet Archive (x)
Missing footage: Prologue [sound only plus stills] (x), The Curious Case of the Upside Down Room [sound only plus stills] (x), The Dreadful Business of the Naked Honeymooners [footage and soundtrack only, no sound dialogue] (x), alternate ending [sound only] (x)
Making of documentary that includes behind-the-scenes snippets of some of the cut scenes [this doc is in German, but you can turn on the auto-translate to English in the YouTube settings] (x)
Interview with Ernst Walter, film editor of TPLOSH (x)
Interview with Christopher Lee “Mr. Holmes, Mr. Wilder” 2003 (x)
My YouTube playlist with all of the above links in one place plus an excellent fan vid by Just Bee that I added to the list because it’s just so good (x)
Missing Movies: A Case for Sherlock Holmes from 1994 BBC Radio 2 on Soundcloud [includes interview with Robert Stephens and folks involved in the production] (x)
Articles about the lost Loch Ness monster prop (x) (x)
The soundtrack by Miklós Rózsa (x)

Hmmm....Which version of Endeavour am I watching?
Cut scenes? Different music? Turns out there are actually up to 4 different versions of every episode of Endeavour!
What are they you ask?
Tumblr media
Here you go...
UK Initial Broadcast version: What went out over the airwaves when the episode premiered. In most cases this does not differ from other UK versions of the episode. However, certain pieces of music—such as Dean Martin’s song Sway in the S2E3 episode of the same title—were so expensive to license that the production was only able to afford the original song for that first broadcast. Repeats had to make do with a substitute piece of music composed to replace the original.  In the case of Sway, the replacement piece was at least specifically commissioned and written for the episode. It was not purchased as a generic composition from a production music library, which is usually what happen in this situation.
This version is only available if you recorded it at the time or know someone who did.
UK Version (Repeats and DVDs): The UK Repeats and DVDs are the definitive versions. Nothing is cut from the original broadcast and they have the soundtrack from the original broadcast—with a few exceptions, like the one mentioned above.
International Version with Cuts (PBS Masterpiece Theater version, both streaming and some DVDs): This version is what I would consider the “worst” option. First, each episode is cut for length by 5 to 8 minutes so that it will fit into the PBS time slot. Second, this version also uses the international version of the soundtrack. Most of the classical music from the UK version remains the same. However, most of the popular music (i.e. Rolling Stones, Kinks, Velvet Underground, etc.) was too expensive to license internationally and was replaced with generic production music. It’s a standard practice in the industry because music licensing is incredibly complicated and pricey, but it still sucks.
International Full-Length Version (Amazon Streaming, iTunes, etc.): These are at least the complete episode. None of the content is cut. The current exception to this may be S9, which is still only available on Amazon via the PBS streaming service. However, at this point, I’m not sure if PBS made the usual cuts to S9. For all other seasons, however, I know for sure that the version on Amazon is complete. It does, however, have the international and not the UK soundtrack.
Other stuff:
If you are looking to purchase physical DVDs, it’s important to be aware of 1) which version you want and 2) which version you can actually access. Most of the DVDs for sale in the US will only play in US DVD players and most for sale in the UK will only play in UK DVD players. If you want to be able to play DVDs from anywhere, you need to purchase a region-free DVD player.
Even then, however, you need to be careful about which version of the show is on any given DVD set. In the US, at least, it can be very difficult to tell from the packaging or purchasing information whether or not a particular set is the full-length version or the one with cuts. The good news is that most of the DVDs are full-length. The bad news is that there are a few sets that are not and I haven’t gone through one-by-one to identify which ones those are—so just be careful.
As far as I know, the DVDs for sale in the US all have the international soundtrack. If you want to hear the UK soundtrack, you’ll have to get that region-free DVD player and the UK versions.
I think that’s it. If anyone knows of something I’ve missed or if I’ve made any errors, please let me know!

Best movies and series i've watched in 2024
I know i'm late, but here ya go!
Yu Yu Hakusho (2023)
Tumblr media
This is how you do a live action! Perfect combination of realism and playfulness. It remained authentic to the anime that's why it was so fun to watch. The CGI was good without being "too much". ▶️ Netflix
Reboot (2022)
Tumblr media
One of the most creative sitcoms in the past 5 years and they only gave it one season. It's also funny and ironic that the whole concept of it was doing reboots and shows getting canceled and they literally canceled it. Again, one season, but give it a try. It's entertaining. ▶️ Hulu
Schmigadoon (2021-2023)
Tumblr media
I can't believe only few people talk about this. I mean a series about being trapped in a musical world is not interesting enough? Witty, superb production and on point casting! Jane Krakowski, you are perfect! ▶️ Apple TV
Harley Quinn (2019-)
Tumblr media
I rarely watch animation, but there's something about DC that keeps me hooked. Also, how could i miss Harley Quinn x Poison Ivy story. And DC loves slowburns huh??? They did that with Batwoman and i'm not complaining at all. I love wlw slowburn. ▶️ HBO Max
The Color Purple (2023)
Tumblr media
This is so underrated when it should be one of the best musical movies of all time. Perfect casting, storyline and soundtrack. People hate remakes, but i'm here for it. New gen deserves to see it. More musicals for Halle Bailey pls! ▶️ Prime video
Lisa Frankenstein (2024)
Tumblr media
As a fan of Frankenstein franchise, i would place it on the top 3. So creative and entertaining. I thought it would just be like another try-hard pop or chic flick classic, but they get it! Idk how to explain it, but they got the formula! ▶️ Apple TV
This child is evil (2022)
Tumblr media
Subtle but creepy. They said J-Horror is dead, but i think people should deep dive more. I hope Japan won't give up in making horror because they make it like no other. They just have to explore more stories and unique ideas. ▶️ Kissasian
Hausu (1977)
Tumblr media
Now i know why it's one of the most respected horror movies in the world. Unique and ahead of its time. Best thing about it is that it was a written from a child's perspective. This is how you play with art. ▶️ Torrent
Godzilla: Minus one (2023)
Tumblr media
VFX on another level. I always say i hate superhero movies and sci-fi, but i think it's the bad or over the top special effect is what i hate. This movie did it simple, but solid. I actually felt like i was part of the movie. I wish i have seen it in the theater. ▶️ Netflix
Priscilla (2023) - Jacob Elordi's Elvis >>>>>>>> He can't sing or dance as good as the other actors, but he was able to capture his backstage version. I also wanna see Cailee Spaeny in more projects. She's amazing! And as an Elvis hater, finally a movie that doesn't romanticize him. ▶️ HBO Max
Silent Parade (2022) - Feels like home watching japanese mystery. I hope they make it more available outside of Japan through streaming coz a lot of them can only be accessed through pirating. ▶️ Apple TV
They Cloned Tyrone (2023) - Entertaining, crazy and unique storytelling. Too bad, it was released on the Barbeinheimer year. You still have a chance watching this tho. ▶️ Netflix

Legitimately really curious about the music question from that kin ask meme you just reblogged. I'd love an answer about any of your kintypes, but I'm especially interested to know if there's any music that you associate with/really resonates with your experience as an isopod.
THANK YOU
See, here's the thing, I never really associate music with any of my theriotypes. Animalistic species specifically. I get into an animalistic mindset by being in nature or acting out instincts, and music (or any other form of art) is going to take me out of that, especially if there's lyrics. There's no bird music to me, no bug music or mustelid music. I just don't associate it, positively or negatively. I guess no, to answer your question. To be in an isopod shift I'd rather be by the ocean or eat foods similar to what we eat in the wild (seaweed salad I guess), since that's what feels the most animalistic to me. Especially for isopod shifts, an animal that does not have a traditional chordate's sense of hearing, I'm not going to vibe with music. I'd share MyNoise generators that have those vibes for me before any songs.
Music-related shifts for me are all about the sapient kintypes, i.e. computer, Novakid, or fictotypes. But I liked this particular ask meme's music question because it differentiated songs, bands, and genres! And I love to talk genre so!
Individual songs are gonna be (Link) Blame by Air Traffic Controller, Never Existed by Keldian, Take 3 by Inner Wave, Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron, (for Novakid) S.T.A.R. Child by The Orion Experience, Lightning Riders by AWOLNATION, Space Western by Rich Aucoin, Propane Nightmares by Pendulum, Nova by VNV Nation, (...other) Dreams by Joakim Karud (I cannot concisely explain why it puts me in a computer mindset)
Coincidentally, today (after reblogging that!) I just happened upon a song I didn't know about before, from a band with only 1 album and 10 listeners on Spotify, only available for streaming on a single website in the depths of the obscure music Internet, which catapulted me into a Novakid shift, so here's that, obviously
But I feel like I've listed those songs a million times and never mentioned that genres in general are what "computer kintype music" is for me. My computer kintype is an IBM 7090 so I heavily associate it with 1970s electronic music particularly, so that playlist is a lot of vintage electronica, Space Art, Mort Garson, moog synths, songs with Casio instruments, and recent stuff that takes inspiration from that era like Eyeliner, Jack Stauber, MNQN, and certain synthwave artists. I also associate it a lot with computer animation (pre-Disney-Pixar) so that's a lot of vaporwave and also every soundtrack album for all the Mind's Eye films (those are by James Reynolds, Jan Hammer and Thomas Dolby). I've never been able to find a really good version online of the song from Fabricated Rhythm, which I think is just called Fabricated Rhythm, but I like that too.
Post-punk reminds me of autumn/whatever my weird cryptic kintype is that's associated with the season, but maybe that's just because I'm happiest in fall and I love post-punk. However if anyone can help explain why Figure In the Background by Snake Pool gives me species euphoria lmk

Sega Mega CD - Shining Force CD
Title: Shining Force CD / シャイニングフォースCD
Developer/Publisher: Sega / Sonic! Software Planning / Seraphic / Rit's Co. Ltd. / Winds / Twofive
Release date: 22 July 1994
Catalogue No.: G-6036
Genre: Strategy RPG
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If there is one single, great tragedy with Shining Force CD, it’s that so few people ever actually got around to playing it. At the time, the series was just getting on its feet, and the Mega CD itself was still struggling to obtain some decent sales, which it may or may not have ever gotten (depending on who you ask). This combination of sad factors led many to overlook one of the better strategy/RPGs out there. Let me echo the voices of those who stand behind this forgotten classic and sing the praises of everything Shining! Ok, maybe that’s bringing it on a bit thick; you get the picture though. Why, just look at what Sega gave us. Both Game Gear carts (Shining Force Gaiden [1992] and Shining Force Gaiden II [1993]) together on a single disc, with an extra exclusive battle. Four books, 53 battles. How can you not like this? I’ve owned and beaten all the games in this series, and after going back to it, I gained a new respect for it. Not everything is to my liking, I can say that flat out, but the package as a whole is a winner and one solid ride.
What’s not to like? For one thing, the treasured town dynamic has been removed. No longer can you explore and chat with villagers. The game has basically been reduced to the fighting sequences, with some story tossed in for good measure. The plot is now mostly told on the field, and it at least still maintains the same sense of urgency and tongue-in-cheek doomsday atmosphere that the others had. Let’s be honest, none of the bad guys in the Shining Force games have ever been truly menacing, and the CD installment doesn’t detour from that at all.
The adventure opens twenty years after the conclusion of the first Shining Force, with the land of Gardiana having been rebuilt by Luke, Lowe, and Ken; all of whom now serve Queen Anri. Ambassadors from Cypress (not the island nation, mind you) present a gift to her that explodes into a fog upon opening, sending Anri into a deep sleep. A marvelous quest to save her ensues, which culminates with the start of the second chapter, seamlessly attached. Book II’s end in turn sets the stage for the awesome final battle, in which you choose twelve warriors from both forces to end things once and for all (if you meet certain criteria, of course). Did I mention that the main heroes of both books are usable? A neat little touch, that.
Thankfully, it plays as solid as its other 16-bit brethren. I’m not, however, going to get all technical about the gameplay. It’s a Shining Force game, and I’m sure that you’ve played at least one of the other three entries available. Nothing’s changed here, and fans will be able to dive right in without even reading the manual. Newcomers should have little trouble, although they may be slightly turned off by the constant stream of battles that constitute the bulk of the game.
Let me be honest with myself for a second and not let my love for this franchise cloud my judgment. I am more than a bit disappointed by the presentation. Sure, the visuals are a huge leg up from the Game Gear, but when you already have two games done using the same engine, how hard is that? The battles are as beautiful as ever, but where are my animated cut scenes? Moreover, if this is a CD game, why aren’t there any towns? The exploration dynamic could really have been taken to a whole other level here, and it’s a shame that the developers took the short route. Switching between a shop and my HQ just wasn’t the same, and I really did miss being able to wander around. I bet Camelot knew this too and tried to make up for it with Shining Force III Scenarios 1, 2, and 3 on the Saturn.
One thing’s for sure, the soundtrack is simply GODLY. Sega knew how to take advantage of red book audio on the CD system, and this title is no exception. OST-worthy and beautifully scored, the music practically carries the game by itself. It’s by far one of my favorite soundtracks on the Mega CD.
Another plus is the continuation of the Shining tradition of new and hidden characters. As you progress through the game, new heroes will join you, and there’s a bunch that you actually have to hunt down. This has always been cool because it gives a little more replay value to the package and ensures that you won’t complete the whole thing the same way twice.
Well friends, there you have it. A great adventure that was unfortunately given the cold shoulder for too long, is now commanding upwards of $70 on eBay. That’s the price for learning things late I guess, and although Shining Force CD isn’t perfect, it’s so good you’ll forgive its flaws and revel in its strengths. The quest is long, and the characters are lovable, which should be enough to make it worth some of your time. Every Shining fan needs this one, plain and simple.

It's Panic Thursday
Remember that the first week that VIBE dropped, ARMY was able to purchase 10,000 copies on the very last day of tracking. We can absolutely help ANGEL chart well this first week too, and get Jimin that new record.
Please buy the long and sped up version of Angel Pt 1 on all available stores, including the Fast X Soundtrack site, iTunes, Amazon, Qobus, and 7 Digital, then immediately download the digital files and play them for a few seconds.
If you have multiple streaming accounts, perhaps dedicate one just to focus on Angel Pt 1 today, especially on Pandora, which lets you loop and rack up streams fast.
Note that Spotify has FOUR VERSIONS you should be including 20 times each!
If all you did was max out your 80 plays with back to back Angel versions, it would take you four straight hours. We know best practice is to have 1-2 songs as fillers, (Like Crazy, Planet, and Haegeum are good choices) so that means today we really gotta focus with the remaining hours in the tracking day.
While I have you here, please vote for Jimin in this cute little poll as the best choice to dub a Disney movie! The voting results will be published in a Danmee article for Japanese and Korean media, as well as about 50 companies, after June 5th.
It won't win him anything, I just think it would be nice to put his voice acting talents on the radar with various media company executives. You only have to vote once, so it's low-effort! And I just can't bare to see our boy lose. :-)

Thank you, puppykitties! FIGHTING!!!!!

my server vs netflix
Long post for a few mutuals who asked about this 🏴‍☠️
Netflix (according to the geeks on server forums -- so this could be off a bit) has individual servers that hold about 100TB of data each, and Netflix claims they have around 18,000 servers worldwide.
Netflix has about 3000 movies and 1800 TV shows available in the United States at any given time. It varies in other countries, but is similar.
This is my server below (pen for size comparison and purple sticky note covering the super bright blue light that bores into my brain)
Tumblr media
It's got 5 drive bays, and right now I have 60TB of storage space in it (meaning it's just a little smaller than one of Netflix's servers), and only 37TB of which is currently used. I can easily expand with add-on bays once I fill up the 60TB.
I currently have 4470 movies and 862 TV series, all with closed captioning that I've curated and about 100 of the TV shows have bonus scenes and specials included.
My server cost me about $2700: $1200 for the 5-bay box and the rest was spent on hard drives over the course of 2 years -- 5 inside the server and 6 backup drives. I bought good drives when they were on sale.
I spent another $300 on a range extender for my house so mom and dad could watch in their bedrooms without interruption.
My home internet costs $50 a month and I'm able to serve friends and family in the US, Canada, Europe, and Australia. It's not always accessible (sorry Australia and your shitty internet), but it's up most of the time.
I never take movies/TV shows off of my server, and all the TV shows have their original DVD soundtracks, so nobody has to worry I'm going to remove their faves or ruin soundtracks.
I take requests from anyone, adding it when I find it with no judgement on content.
I don't charge anyone for using my server, and yet I'm paying less than I used to for internet and streaming services.
My payments for internet and streaming for my business and two family houses (Charlie's house and my house) used to be $900 A MONTH ($450 of it was the business internet because ISPs gouge businesses even though the internet usage at the shop is less than home).
Just before I quit Cox Internet, they were about to raise the cost and my new total would've been $1000 per month.
My monthly payments are now $220 for internet service and streaming services. So within just a few months, the server paid for itself.
I still have YouTube TV, Netflix x2 (one for each house), Hulu, and Discovery+.
I'm not saying the average person can set this up, but I want to make it clear that streaming services aren't the mysterious, unknowable magic that people think they are.
They're just servers (hard drives) with data on them and a good internet connection.
Anyone can set up a home server. You don't need a $1200 box like mine. Even an old computer/laptop or single hard drive will work.
A brand new 2TB good-quality hard drive that could hold about 1000 movies or 60-80 TV series would only cost $60 plus another $29 for a basic enclosure/case. (I bought mine from NewEgg for backups)
Tumblr media
I use Plex as my media server program. It has a free version and a paid version. I bought the lifetime pass on sale for $90. It goes on sale 2-3 times a year. There are other programs out there too, including Kodi, which has a Netflix skin so it looks like you're using Netflix.
Plex and other programs like it already have a huge library of metadata, so I didn't have to create my own cover art or fill in any other information other than title & year for movies or title + season + episode number for TV shows.
Careful naming of files and sorting in properly-named folders is all you need to have this:
Tumblr media
It took me about 3 months to download and organize most of the movies and TV shows in between working and taking care of my home/family. Now I update the server once a week and it takes about 2 hours a week to download/update new TV shows and movies.
I wasn't able to torrent when I had Cox Internet, but the new $50/month ISP doesn't give a shit. Even so, I use a VPN, which is $9 a month just in case they ever decide to get touchy about torrenting.
The server does regular maintenance on itself, and I have backups of everything.
I realize not everyone has the tech skills to set something like this up, but even if one tech person in the family or circle of friends has the ability, they could serve around 60 people.
The most I've had streaming at one time was 10 separate people watching different things, and my server handled it with no problem.
Others on the server forum claim they've maxed out around 25 people simultaneously watching, but 60 people is the number suggested because not everybody will watch at the same time.
Streaming, as it currently works, does NOT support anyone related to the creation of TV shows and movies.
Hopefully this will change, but even if it does, that doesn't change the fact that I can easily support creators myself by buying their DVDs, merch, going to cons, and donating to them or their projects directly.
Right now, pirating movies and TV shows doesn't hurt creators because streaming services and big studios are the main villains, and if all you did was donate $5 to your favorite TV show/movie, you'd be giving them more than if you streamed their content as many times as you wanted each month on a big streaming service.
I have movies and TV shows on my server that aren't even available from content creators anymore due to greedy CEOs and execs who dump their content for tax breaks.
If more people switched to using their own servers, MAYBE it would scare the greedy assholes into paying content creators what they deserve, but in the meantime it's a great way to enjoy content that was created to be shared and to support the creators.
EDIT: I need to add that streaming a TV show/movie as much as possible in the first few weeks of the release date DOES help the show get renewed and the movie execs are more likely to buy future movies, so please stream as much as possible then to help content creators. After that time is up and the streaming service moves on, then it's totally fine to pirate.

I've wanted to get my OSTs on Spotify for soooo long, and that dream has finally become a reality x3 It's only 1 track because The Shuddering's OST only has 1 BGM as per O2A2 VN Jam requirements, haha. But it's a start! I just figured with it only being 1 track, it would be a good one to experiment with since I was clueless about the entire process >.< It all seems to have gone smoothly though, and is now available on Spotify, YouTube Music, and many other places if you happen to want to listen to it :3 With any luck, I will eventually be able to get all of my game soundtracks on there! It will take a bit of time, but since I currently don't have a PC to work on & the potato laptop isn't capable of a great deal, it's something I'll at least be trying to do, haha. I rambled about it some more in a dev log if you want to read that for any reason x3 Or the general July roundup post I made over on Ko-Fi. Happy National Moth Week! Have one of the absolute beauties that showed up the other night ^-^ So damn cuuuuuute <3

I really enjoyed listening to the third movie deluxe soundtrack.
I think it is a fantastic musical journey through 'The Hidden World' and a brilliant addition to the 'How To Train Your Dragon' extended soundtracks.
I have added it to my Spotify library along with the other two deluxe albums and music from various other animated movies I like!
Overall, each deluxe album completes the franchise and tells the stories in each one really well.

hello! I'm back!
I spent most of the last week in NOLA for the Overlook Film Festival, and it was the best time I've had in literal ages. I met so many great people, including three directors, an art director, and an actress, and I got to be ten feet away from Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel! it was truly the greatest long weekend ever; still can't believe it's over.
gonna briefly talk about the movies I got to see, though! most of these have upcoming wide release dates, and you should definitely check them out, if you're able!
CUCKOO (2024) dir. Tilman Singer: Hunter Schafer and Dan Stevens lead this really fun, batshit scream-fest that was sooooo queer (thematically and textually) to me. Dan Stevens should always play weird little guys with musical instruments. whatever you think this movie is about: no, it probably isn't. not every beat lands, but the ones that do are pretty damn good. it's going to wide release in August!
ALL YOU NEED IS DEATH (2024) dir. Paul Duane: an Irish folk horror propelled forward by a metal soundtrack interwoven with haunting ballads, and an awakening of something ancient and devastating. described by Duane as a "vibe movie" in the vein of Kurosawa's PULSE and CURE with hints of Żuławski's POSSESSION, it touches on themes of obsession and love and consumption, and mysticism of forgotten pasts. I've still got the music and imagery stuck in my head. the movie will be available to rent digitally soon, and will be going to a currently unnamed streaming service later this year. (thanks for the Q&A, Paul and actress Catherine Siggins! your passion for the project was utterly infectious, and can't wait to see that next film that Paul said is going to "piss a lot of people off"!)
OCULUS (2014) dir. Mike Flanagan: 10th Anniversary Screening & Presentation of the 2024 Master of Horror Award: this plays so well in a packed house that I upped by LBX rating by half a star. the Q&A afterwards made me appreciate the movie (bleakness and all) even more, because I got to listen to Mike Flanagan talk about how he feels he's improved as a storyteller, and how just making anything is invigorating, even if you sort of cringe to look back on some things. his shout-outs about LAKE MUNGO and DOCTOR WHO were for me specifically. oh, also, hashtag ONEMOREDOG for Kate! (thanks for the Q&A, Mike! hope you got the big axe award home okay! get Kate a second dog!)
LOOKING OVER THE GARDEN WALL: a 10th Anniversary Celebration of OVER THE GARDEN WALL (2014) created by Patrick McHale: show creator Patrick McHale and art director Nick Cross came by to tell us all about their work prior to collaborating, and how the show came to be through a process that, they hoped, would create an immensely re-watchable holiday classic. we even got to see McHale's first student film, and Cross' work for a local film festival back in the 00s, and a screening of TOME OF THE UNKNOWN, the original pilot for OTGW. (thanks for the Q&A, Mike and Nick, and for the autographs and doodles afterwards! your work continues to entertain my household every fall.)
ME (2024) dir. Don Hertzfeldt: director Hertzfeldt requested that everyone go into this with as little information as possible, so I'm going to be vague here. this is wildly different from his previous work (IT'S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY, WORLD OF TOMORROW, etc.) in presentation, that I couldn't help but just sort of sit and marvel at it. it's so experimental and unique, and I can't stop thinking about it. (heard from the man's own mouth:) the short film will be paired with a remastered theatrical re-release of IT'S SUCH A BEAUTIFUL DAY (2012) sometime in the next month! (thanks for the Q&A, Don, and for the chat we shared afterwards. your work is immensely important to me, and I feel very lucky to have been able to tell you so. sorry I got a little weepy, and for making you weepy, too. very proud to have been dubbed "the gateway drug" for your work. also stoked for your project with Ari Aster! I'll be front-row when it releases!)
I SAW THE TV GLOW (2024) dir. Jane Schoenbrun: similar to the above description, this is a different and more traditional presentation compared to Shoenbrun's debut feature, creepypasta-inspired WE'RE ALL GOING TO THE WORLD'S FAIR (2021). TV GLOW is a slow-burn queer (specifically trans) odyssey filled to the brim with painstakingly recreated 90s TV aesthetics, haunting abstract imagery, and an aura that carried echoes of Lynch's Black Lodge (TWIN PEAKS). the ending is a sucker-punch to the gut paired with some incredible but heartbreaking Cronenberg-style body horror. I spent more time bone-deep sad than I did scared, but that's what I love so much about horror: it can make you feel anything and everything in such extremes, that it can leave you breathless. the movie will be releasing in theaters next month, and I highly recommend seeing it in a theater if you can!
the festival was seriously one of the greatest experiences of my life--like a sleepaway camp that I never wanted to end. I WILL be going again, when I'm able! thanks to everyone (volunteer staff, programmers, vendors, fans, artists) who made my first film festival so fucking amazing. I'll love you all forever~ 👻🪓🍿✨

The Loki season two trailer dropped today. Judging from the trailer, the series seems to be leaning more into the series' horror elements. I'm basing that largely on the soundtrack because I have not met a single person that isn't creeped the fuck out by theremin music, myself included. That being said this is definitely your typical horror story. It falls into the social horror genre, which is quickly becoming one of my favorite subgenres.
Social horror is a newly emerging genre of horror that examines all of the fucked shit that we as a society allow to take place simply because the mainstream says that it's ok.
In the case of the Loki series that is allowing one person to take the fall for crimes that he didn't even do and also hunting down and murdering someone simply cause they're transgender. And I know that not everyone headcannons Sylvie as trans and for those of you who don't, I have a question for you:
If Sylvie isn't trans and was simply born female, then why didn't the TVA come for her as an infant? Why would they wait until she was a child capable of complex magic and, ya know, running away?
Just a little something to think about.
It does seem as though Sylvie's story is taking the back burner in season two. Or that's how it seems in this trailer. She didn't exactly turn out to be a fan favorite among stalkerish Hiddlestoners who can't stand to see Tom have a love life even if it's an imaginary one. Or among biphobic assholes who insist that being a straight-passing relationship negates a bisexual's queerness. So it would make sense if Sylvie got less screen time, but she was also a huge part of the season one story arc.
I, personally, thought it was nice that Loki had someone who didn't exist simply to remind him of what a terrible person he was simply for existing. But it's like I said their kiss didn't really eek me out as much as it did other people cause I guess I'm desensitized. Desensitization is what happens when you watch A LOT of horror movies over a long period of time. Or when you just live through so much fucked up shit that you just stop caring.
I do have a line, though, and I don't go out of my way to read about incest and shit like that. Like there's this book called All The Ugly & Wonderful Things by Bryn Greenwood that I absolutely refuse to read because the plot is basically that this girl's life is so fucked up that the only good thing she has is an incestous relationship with her brother or someone. That's just fucking torture porn, ok? It's disgusting. But the whole incest/self-cest trope also plays into the social horror thing cause that happens quite often in horror stories.
Cause usually when characters end up in a consensual incestous relationship it's because they've bonded over shared trauma and are kept so isolated both socially and psychically.....That I guess it starts to feel like it's impossible for someone other than this sibling or whoever to love and understand them.
It's not meant to be sexy or funny. It's meant to be tragic. And like you think you might be some desensitizing yourself I highly recommend--
Vampire Knight by Matsuri Hino
Flowers In The Attic by V.C. Andrews
Bates Motel tv series
Vampire Knight also exists as an anime, but I don't think the complete series was ever put to film. So if you wanna know how it ends then you need to read the manga. Flowers In The Attic is also a movie and you definitely want the 1987 version if you decide to watch it. Here's the trailer--
youtube
The movie is (or was) available to stream for free on Tubi.
And Bates Motel is a TV series that depicts a prequel to Robert Bloch's classic horror novel Psycho. The novel was adapted as a movie by Alfred Hitchcock whose well-known for putting horror movies on the map with his film, The Birds. Bates Motel stars Freddie Highmore and my favorite scream queen, Vera Farmiga who you may know from the Conjuringverse movies that depict the work of famed paranormal investigators (and con-artists) Ed and Lorraine Warren. Here's the trailer for that, too--
youtube
If you guys think some of these are too much for you to handle or that they're too triggering, I recommend looking up reaction videos and embracing schadenfreude because I can promise you if the person watching is a first time viewer.......Well, the first time I watched Bates Motel I was pretty much making this face the entire time--
Tumblr media
So yeah.

So, Roku doesn't have Heathers The Musical anymore.
I saw something on TikTok about it no longer being there, so I went to double check for myself, and that video was right.
Currently, there is a DVD/Blu-ray available for the ProShot, which is good, people can still watch it. However, there's a problem with that. From what I see, it's region locked so it won't play on certain DVD players.
I could tell because it wanted me to go to UK Amazon and when I said no, I didn't get a listing, plus the cover has the UK rating system on it. This is good for UK fans of Heather's The Musical who want to watch the West End production because tickets are either out of their price range or no longer sold/not touring in their area.
However for everyone else outside of the UK who really like this musical, they don't have that luxury, and will have to settle for "Slime Tutorials"; and while that'll be an option, it's not a permanent fix as copyright could claim the video, it could be split up into multiple parts, audio/visual quality could be pretty bad, etc.
So, I really do hope that either :
A) it's put back on Roku/any other streaming service in ALL regions, so everyone can access it much like Hamilton on Disney plus (with minor censorship of two f-bombs as... it's Disney and back then by the time of Hamilton's release, the highest rating was a PG-13, but luckily you can mute the TV and play the soundtrack at the same time to hear it fully).
And/Or B) the DVD is produced in every other region/is region free so anyone can buy it and watch it.
Making stuff unavailable towards certain audiences isn't the way to draw in both old and new fans. Not everyone can afford to see shows live, especially if it's in another country, and much like Phantom of The Opera, we don't know how long the show can go on.

Wretched Excess.... or not?
It is fun cruising the internoise. There are people who drive a Ferrari to work, if indeed work they do. The tiny percent people have money to spend and lots of help doing that.
I was baited into looking at a video from TAS about the old / new personality Michael Fremer. He is a recognized Guru for LPs and has a legitimately good reputation in professional recordings. He has movie music soundtracks and other cool stuff in his resume'. He also has a stupid expensive audio system.
I should also say it is very very good. But the expense cannot be overstated.
The video is a tour of his audio system. To be sure his main job is to review equipment and that entails a revolving door of hardware. But he does admit to owning a lot of 6 figure devices. Hey watch it and be amazed.
youtube
The word dumbfounded comes to mind. Holy Shit. Things like that.
There are some blogs and discussion boards that are amazed and actually hostile about this video. That is unfair. He has made lots of money and it is his business. If you got it flaunt it baby. For that even if I had a couple million to spend I would not get any of this stuff.
Fun thing is towards the end of this he does a party trick. This is what I really want to talk about here. He has a set of calibrated microphones that sit in your ears like earbuds. They turn his head into a legitimate binaural recording device. He assures us this is very accurate reflection of his experience. He played his system and sat in his chair. You can hear what he hears. I was on my headphones and it was impressive.
Now this was YouTube playing on my laptop, but it claims a High end (ya sure) sound card and has a funky music system logo embossed on the case. The earbuds were from my Iphone when they had a jack.
The music was clear and frankly impressive.
So much so I tracked down the artist and the album. Lori Lieberman a very good singer songwriter. Jazz and American songbook type music.
Fun fact my generation had two songs that perplexed and fascinated us. "American Pie" by Don Mclean, and "Killing Me Softly with his song" by Roberta Flack. Apparently Ms Lieberman went to a Don Mclean concert and was so moved she sketched out a poem on a napkin about it. That was shared with two others who helped write that song. It did not become a hit until R. Flack recorded it after hearing the original version while on a flight. Then those two partners tried to hide her contribution and even deny she was involved. Lawyers made money.
Explains why she quit the music business for a long time.
I listened to much of this album on Itunes in my car on the way home from work. I liked most of it. The song that Fremer played through his trick microphones was "Truly".
When I got home I fired up the franken-amp and the other stuff necessary for a couple hours to get it all warm and magically aligned. After dinner and home roasting a batch of coffee and a brutal aerobic workout I sat down to listen.
My goal was to listen to the same stuff that Fremer played on his six figure system on my four figure system with some consumer grade good stuff. I did this.
To be sure Iphone buds and my laptop are not SOTA. Fremer's system is about as SOTA as it can get. So the stuff I heard on my full size system was better. There was more clarity and I need another go to be sure but I heard deeper into the venue and arrangements and supporting musicians. Pretty damn good.
The album is available in all the fancy streaming formats and of course vinyl. I may buy it if I convince myself all the tracks are my cup of tea, or home roasted coffee.
Aside from everything else Fremer can pick high end albums like few others can.

Tumblr media
The year has only just begun, but hip-hop artist D_cider is already making waves with two back-to-back singles that showcase his range and creativity. His latest track, “100m Dash,” dropped on January 17, 2025, via Sound.xyz, in collaboration with Riska_D_Rollaz Records and Secunda Henderson Management, and it’s a sprinting anthem that’s impossible to ignore.
The Journey So Far
Earlier this year, D_cider released “Hey Girl (Drink),” a playful, feel-good song inspired by finding joy after heartbreak. With its catchy hook and upbeat energy, the track resonated with fans looking for an escape, quickly becoming a soundtrack for good vibes and new beginnings.
But D_cider isn’t just about carefree anthems — he’s about balance. Enter “100m Dash,” a track that shifts the tone dramatically, bringing focus to ambition, hustle, and resilience.
What Makes “100m Dash” Stand Out?
“100m Dash” is more than a song; it’s a metaphor for life’s relentless grind. The production mirrors the energy of a sprinter on the track — intense, fast-paced, and razor-sharp. D_cider’s lyrics reflect a deep hunger for success, speaking to anyone chasing their dreams with unyielding determination.
In his own words, D_cider explained, “I wanted ‘100m Dash’ to capture the urgency and focus it takes to chase something you’re passionate about. It’s a reminder to stay in your lane, keep your eyes on the goal, and push through, no matter what.”
A Collaborative Effort
This release is a testament to the power of collaboration. Backed by Riska_D_Rollaz Records and managed by Secunda Henderson Management, D_cider’s vision was brought to life with a team that understands his potential. The track debuted exclusively on Sound.xyz, a platform known for supporting innovative artists and creating unique listening experiences for fans.
2025: A Year of Momentum
“100m Dash” is more than just D_cider’s second single of the year; it’s a statement of intent. While “Hey Girl (Drink)” celebrated life’s lighthearted moments, “100m Dash” is a reminder to keep grinding, even when the stakes are high.
With these two releases, D_cider is proving he’s an artist who can effortlessly move between moods, genres, and themes — keeping fans intrigued every step of the way.
Stream “100m Dash” Today
“100m Dash” is available now on Sound.xyz and all major streaming platforms. Follow D_cider’s journey on social media and get ready for more music that inspires, motivates, and resonates.
