stoic illiterate unwilling assassin deeply in love with unfailingly kind rich sad gay man almost stabs his crush's brother because the brother cares so much and so genuinely for the gay man that he searched assassin's room out of worry and found knives and a mysterious letter before being interrupted by the assassin who then does not want to show him the letter which seems incredibly suspicious, only for a later scene (after the gay man interrupts them and thus stops any escalation from happening) to quietly reveal that the very sus letter in possession of this illiterate assassin is not in fact a sign he's lying about being illiterate.... it's just two pages of him practicing the gay man's name over and over in neatly spaced lines...... a reveal which he was going to STAB a man over because he doesn't know that the gay man's brother knows the man is gay and loves him with his whole heart and would never ever do anything to hurt him........ i will never get over this, how could i ever get over this, everything else ever is going to be downhill from here

Love the steady recontextualisation that takes place in Flower of Evil. At first you think Ji-won's trust in Hyun-soo is because she's perhaps naïve or is in denial and just wants to believe in him. The circumstantial evidence consistently mounts against Hyun-soo, but she still seems to believe him innocent to the point of stubbornness.

But as you see more of their history, you start to realise that he has in no way "fooled" her. Every instance of him "faking" being the family man is actually just... him learning the relevant social cues because he wants his family to like him. And he may wrap it all up in justifications that he needs her as camouflage but, the fact remains, as someone living under an assumed identity? He did not have to marry a cop. He chose to do that. So it follows that all his practising smiling, his observation notebooks, they’re him making an effort to bridge the gap and learn to show the affection he wants to be in the relationship, despite him not realising himself that his feelings are genuine.

But Ji-won liked him long before he had learned these cues. Back when to the surface observer he was off-putting and abrasive, she saw the kindness in his actions rather than in his expressions and his distancing. She liked him for him. And yeah, she appreciates him making the effort, but that wasn't why she fell for him.

When it comes to their relationship, she’s not the unreliable narrator here; he is.

listen i was judgy about queen charlotte and then i wound up liking it so even though i know the marina story won’t end well and i just cannot forgive penelope for that fucked up white girl tears moment, i Do still want to try it but even with my extreme distaste for the way they’ve adapted penelope, i think colin doesn’t get enough whacks for like, fundamentally refusing to see the women around him as people in a way no other man in this series does and i need him to start getting more hate

So I deleted my romantasy poll, not because people were being pedantic, as is usually the problem, but because almost all of the reblog replies included people saying that a story can't function with a romance as a main plot and reducing romance to things that are not at all what romance as a genre is actually about, and that was enough to tell me that at least a decent number of votes were from people who objectively do not like romance as a genre, which also meant they were literally the people I told to not vote in the poll, as it was a poll about fantasy romance and not about fantasy, as these are two different genres.

Anyway, if you're seeing this post and you read romantasy, as herein defined as "a romance story set in a fantasy world", which do you find yourself more invested in--the relationship between the main ship or the fantasy elements? Do you prefer the story to be driven by a "fantasy"-type plot, i.e. "clan wars" but where the romance is a pivotal aspect of that, or do you prefer the story be driven by a "romance"-type plot, i.e. "rivals to lovers" but against a fantasy backdrop?

You cannot have a fantasy romance in which the romance is not pivotal to the plot, so again, if that is the kind of fantasy you like, you enjoy *fantasy*, NOT *fantasy romance*, so I do not need to hear from you. I already know what you like. Thanks ^.^

Saw on my dash how “x is allowed to exist, but y is not.”

And. Hoo boy. No. No “x” is NOT allowed to exist. If I say I’m asexual, I’m expected to also be 0% Romantic Aromantic Asexual. If I describe what I would want in a romantic relationship, I’m told it’s “just” a friendship. If I describe my demiromanticism, that’s just a “good head on my shoulders” or has people suspicious I’m only friends with them to date them—neither is true. I can and will sit with romantic feelings that ONLY develop when someone is SAFE platonically indefinitely. But also demiromanticism is not “Aromantic Enough” and therefore I’m not “Aroace Enough”. Asexuality and dating? Either you break your boundaries or the other person feels physically neglected or you can’t have exclusivity. Dating apps? Free ones do not include asexuals with the full features—it’s either a trial period or essentially a paying Allo has to approach YOU—with maybe the exception of Tinder. Paid service apps that include or are for asexuals are few and far between.

Remind me how romantic/grey&demi aromantic asexuals are so “accepted.” Because this isn’t even getting into the constant allonormative messaging. This is just the practicality of when an asexual falls in love, wants to date someone, or would like to try experiencing either.
