Because this has come up over and over (esp on Twitter and TikTok) with people who want to claim that every bi/pan SPOP character ends up in a m/f relationship... by conveniently pretending Perfuma is not canonically bi/pan herself. And every time they are asked to elaborate why they are ignoring her canon status, they give the same answer: that they consider Perfuma a lesbian because now that she's with a woman, she's "not bi anymore"

And... yeah... you know that's not how it works, right? That being bi/pan is not just a phase you get over? That a bi/pan woman dating another woman doesn't suddenly make her a lesbian any more than it makes a bi/pan person dating someone of the opposite gender magically straight?

The person you are currently dating does not change your bi/pan status. Ever. And insisting it does, especially just so you can score some points by making up an issue about a show to be mad about, is super GD harm harmful to the real bi/pan people in your life.

(This is the exact same thing The Owl House fandom does with Lumity and why Dana had to make Luz present a whole slideshow in the cartoon reminding everyone she is still very much bi even though Amity is a lesbian. TOH fans kept insisting because Luz is dating Amity now, she's a lesbian. Nope. Her and Amity can be married for a billion years and that wouldn't change Luz's orientation.)

First of all, the legend of this grows daily and I think it's really telling that this archival obsessed fandom only talks about this mythical like and yet has never been able to produce a single screenshot of it.

But for the sake of argument, let's say that this really happened and actually exists, that someone related to the show, however distantly, liked fanart once that implied Perfuma was a lesbian somehow. That still doesn't make it canon. People related to the show and even ND himself have liked and reblogged all sorts of stuff that isn't canon, including g/a, and have been very clear that the only canon is what happens within the show itself.

And, in the show, Perfuma is canonically bi/pan. We see her crushing on Bow, She-Ra, Huntara and Scorpia. The fact that people want to pretend the Bow thing never happened when he's the only character we see her actually date over the run of the show AND it's a major Season 1 plot point is wild to me and just shows the lengths people will go for bi/pan erasure.

And I get that some people enjoy using Perfuma to tell a story about comphet or coming out as a lesbian later in life and I am fully in favor of doing your thing with your headcanons in fanworks. But when it reaches the point it has now where fans are attacking other fans for saying Perfuma is bi/pan or attacking the show for not having any bi/pan character in same sex relationships when Perfuma is CANONICALLY bi/pan is ridiculous. 

Keep in mind that your headcanon is literally just something you made up in your head. It's pretend. Fun, yes, but NOT something you can use as justification to attack people over!

Especially when it's something like this that causes real world harm by perpetuating harmful stereotypes about bi/pan people being "just a phase" or a temporary state that changes based on who you date.

This is probably a wild thing to get but your “Gojo should stay dead” post has got my unmedicated ass vibrating.

(I’ve only read jjk0, besides that literally all of my exposure has been via 3 video essays and fanfic… I basically got into the series backwards and tbh it’s an interesting experience…)

And tbh I agree with you more than not. Even though the view I have of the character is so fucking warped because jjk fanfic is too the gills filled with smut.

Because what I’ve gathered from the video essays and the few bits of fanfics that actually tried getting into his mind… is that the man is gd tired.

A god complex the size of the sun, that’s only ever been challenged once by one of the few people he ever formed a genuine connection with, and it was challenged as that person was leaving him. That incident may have motivated him to change, but that change was predominantly if not exclusively external, he didn’t really do much self reflection.

After Geto left, Gojo did better (became a teacher, warding Megumi, not letting Yuta be executed) but he didn’t work on being better (god complex, recklessness, belief that his way is the only way with no real consideration for the effects those decisions have on others)

He’s selfish, arrogant, and reckless, he doesn’t seem to take much of anything seriously and that may be a persona (again, I haven’t actually read jjk yet… the ending of mha did the characters, narrative, and audience so gd dirty I need to know how jjk ends so I set my expectations accordingly) but I can very much see this man never really developing his sense of empathy because he never really had any stakes… like he has some understanding, but the god complex and the fact people around him constantly reinforce it… he can’t put himself in other people’s shoes, there’s a detachment from reality that would read as delusional for anybody else, but he has spent his entire life being told he is the strongest with nothing ever being able to prove him wrong.

Than on the flip side of that god complex, honestly for a good while, and still sorta kinda… to me he reads as passively suicidal. (I know “Word of God” can be controversial regarding character analysis because of its absence in the base text) but the fact Gege’s rough rundown of Gojo’s daily schedule was basically “he sleeps for about 3 hours and spends the rest of his time working, his sweet tooth is actually somewhat practical as he uses sugar as a stimulant.” That’s not good for your noggin. Add the isolation caused by his status and his god complex, I see him coming to the conclusion that the only way he should die, is in battle.

And he did! Even if wasn’t in the “final sacrifice that ensures he becomes a legend” sort of way I think he would’ve hoped for.

But that also felt… right? (Certainly not fair, Gege openly admitting he kills off fan favorites for the shock value does dampen the possible emotional impact that could’ve been achieved… but I digress)

Every time Gojo fights, and I mean properly fights, he’s smiling, it’s a game to him, a chance to show off, to assert his dominance and reaffirm his status… so him dying so suddenly that his legs are still standing as his upper half falls to the floor, he’s lying there choking on his own blood as he bleeds out and Sukuna saying it “cleared his skies” (weird phrasing, but I think that’s a cultural/translation thing) it could’ve been a gut punch of a tragedy that amped up the stakes of the final conflict! The protagonists’ trump card is gone in a handful of panels and a flick of the wrist! He’s bleeding out on the ground as the big bad seems to reach a moment of genuine inner peace! But the backtracking and Gege’s history lessened that significantly

tbh I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out that Shonen Jump had something to do with it… the motivations for Gege’s writing choices are questionable to me (it feels spiteful and cheap) but they’ve been consistent until now, what changed?

1) fairy queen character only shows up disguised or in downfall timelines and sometimes both. In most of them she is a different person every time but

2) in wind waker the fairy queen shows up as a puppet that looks a LOT like Fi. She has an entire island as territory to herself and makes direct, almost Fae-esque comments abt Link*, which she straight up Doesn't Do in any other game (coincidentally the game that Hylia and the Golden Goddesses are the Least In lore-wise)

3) Skyward Sword, the game that Hylia is the Most in, doesn't have any fairies in it, and introduces Fi, Master Sword soul and Hylia's Hand In The World Who Looks A Fucking Lot Like The Fairy Queen's Puppets

4) Botw/Totk has Permanent Great Fairies, who can move around as they please. At this point in the timeline Hylia is clearly Present But Detatched, enough to the point where they don't overlap beyond Zelda's direct influence

5) late downfall timeline Link (original games), can turn Into a fairy, which I'm not sure specifically how this applies but considering how far into a timeline that Hylia has at least half abandoned at this point this bit is, it feels kind of significant

6) also slightly less??? Relevant but still notable in a weird way, Timeline Split happens with The Fairy Boy(OOT Link). He does all the time travelling song based things but. I just wonder if there was some Greater Fae influence. (Causing the split, opening up potential domain space in a time where your rival Isnt. A bit convenient, hm?)

Maybe unpopular opinion: I am slightly dissatisfied from there not being more happy honeymoon Polin? I felt those two needed some relief after E V E R Y T H I N G they went through. Since Nicola and Luke spoke about us seeing them sharing those moments of marital bliss (or something like that). Maybe those scenes were filmed but did not make the cut? Perhaps in editing they hammed up the drama and perferred to stick to the ‘marriage is tough but love overcomes it all” idea? (Which was amazing, but they put those two through the gd wringer)

I’m a little tiny bit sad about it but so thankful for what we got. For 90% of the time I watched, I was BLOWN away.

i think it's a product of all of the angst pretty much going into 7 & 8. with them taking out the LW reveal earlier on, they had to add it somewhere. and why not do it with as much drama as possible?

are you saying watching numerous scenes of benedict and people we will most likely never see again was not what you wanted? wild. just me? that's fine too.

i do think they were more talking about 5 & 6 for the honeymoon period tho? maybe? it was all very sweet in those 2 eps for the most part. the book is fairly back and forth at the end with them until they're happy at the very end and they really did use a lot of the book this time around as inspiration for the plot. which i appreciate but okay drama queens.

i also think the way the show has handled LW made it so much bigger and it needed so much more time and space to deal with. they added the queen to it, there's just a lot more players this time.

Still not quite sure how I feel about their approach to Wukong I love it because it makes sense for his LMK character but I also hate it because it takes away the part of him that makes him complex and reduces him down to like 90% of what he does being because someone else told him to do it rather than his own pride and desire for things and peoples issues with him, but that also is part of what makes it fit with this Wukong, glad they at least kept the circlet, don’t like how quick he came around to accepting it, unless someone threatened to kill his bros if he didn’t so he agreed to it to save their lives and THATS why Azure and the others got away scott free no problem, and then by then he experienced the power of the circlet so he had no choice but to seal them away, or he got bitter heck i don’t know Wukong’s character feels like its getting such a short end of the stick rn and I love it but hate it but like it but dislike it but HECK ITS JUST SO SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT ITS THROWING ME OFF BUT THEY HANDLED IT REALLY WELL, IF ANYONE ELSE TRIED THIS I’D CRINGE BUT MONKIE KID HAS SUCH GOOD WRITERS AND ANIMATION THEY MAKE IT WORK SOMEHOW AND I’M OFFENDED BY IT HGBDFSFASF HECK DUDE

I adore Azure’s characterization though, he’s so funky and so in denial and I actually can’t wait to see what happens with him and if he turns on his other bros, cause a plot line with them seeing he’s kinda insane would be DOPE Wise old elephant can’t follow a lunatic for long right? How he treats Mk is very interesting because he does seem to see him like a nephew of some kind or at least thinks he should care about him, hence the “mercy” and focusing only on him rather than, like, Mei, who’s much more thrilled and looked up to him for a bit there. Cause Mk’s Wukong’s student so that makes him important to Azure. What are each of the ninja's relationship to their respective guardian? Do they ever make time to go visit their guardians? Will they be significant in the focus seasons of their respective ninja, or the focus seasons of their home realm?

They do make time to visit their Guardians when they can, although traveling all the way to the farthest corners of the world can be a tad inconvenient so it’s not terribly often. They also know that they can visit Vulcanell anytime (as he is the closest to the city, until Genesis is on the scene again) who can then summon the others, but they try to save that for extreme emergencies only.

I can promise they’ll definitely be prominent in the Ninjas’ focus seasons during the NRG Arc (Seasons 11-15), but beyond that I’ll include them if I can make it make sense! (We won’t be seeing much of them in S2 as they’re still recovering from S1, but stay tuned!)

As for the relationships themselves:

Zane never feels compelled to visit Eirlys, though when she decides to make an appearance for him he’s certainly not going to turn it down, and will make the most of the time with her. She misses him a lot when they’re apart, but she’d never show it snksnksnk. She acts like a puppy around Zane (and Pixal, and Cole if she’s in a good mood), and everyone else she’s a stoic lone wolf snksnk

Cole also doesn’t go out of his way to see Ruamoko too often (probably because going to the Western Province requires going through West Haven), but when they do get the chance to reconnect he always feels guilty about not trying to do more. Ruamoko never takes it personally, as he too is something of a rolling stone, but he’s always proud to see Cole thrive, and is happy to support Cole’s friends when he can <3

Jay always wants to visit Tawhiri but he never gets around to it (similar to visiting his parents, ha). When he finally makes good on his promise to take Nya to the Floating Ruins though, Tawhiri does not take well to Nya’s presence and that kind of puts a rift between them and it hurts Jay’s feelings. They reconcile during Skybound, though…but the same can’t be said for the other ninja (as they’re always going to be terrified of her temper gkdnslfdj)

Kai lucks out with Vulcanell, due to his close proximity and the amount of opportunities they’ve already had to fight side by side together. Vulcanell is a bit intimidating towards everyone else, but turns into a softie around Kai. Sometimes he sneaks out when he’s feeling particularly bad to go vent to Vulcan (and sometimes he does the same for Nya—she’s pretty close with Vulcan too).

If Wojira wasn’t, well, Wojira, I imagine she and Nya would be pretty close. …Though now I want an AU where Wojira is more benevolent and wasn’t forced to sleep through the terraforming of her realm and had the chance to connect with masters of her elements—

Lloyd also lucks out—when Genesis returns, he’s always patrolling the Central Province via the skies (a la the dragons in Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom) and is quick to come when there’s a drastic crisis (or simply if Lloyd calls him). There’s a strong bond of respect between them, similiar to Lloyd and the GD, but not quite a genuine friendship until some more time passes.

Epsilon basically becomes Lloyd’s pet, so, y’know. He might have a favorite without even trying—

Sam stood staring at the fairy circle. This was where it had started. She let herself kneel by the blossoms. They were beautiful, a pearly white that contrasted with the near black of the grass that surrounded where they grew. 

She had grown up with the townsfolk's stories of magic in the woods, but she had stopped listening when she was ten and the kids at school had said that magic wasn’t real. 

But what else could you call this?

What else could you call the way the plants sang to her, begging to tell her their secrets. Begging her to use them.

What else would you call the way that she felt more connected to nature than to humans. That she could tell what a plant was just by looking at it. Could know all it could do with just a touch. 

What would you call the innate knowledge that if she mixed this plant and that one and boiled them for three hours she would get a remedy for the measles, but if she boiled it for four and added just a pinch of dirt she could kill someone and make it look like the flu.

She wasn't even sure why she was approaching the fairy circle. Not after Danny had…

Danny was still unconscious and it had been a month. His body continued to function but it seemed as if his mind was Elsewhere.

They had gone by many names, Akna, It Bunoo, Tatei Yurianaka, Gaia, Mother Nature.

Those who had known their true name were long gone and their language had been lost with them. Many cultures had called it Mother for bringing life, but they had always preferred those that referred to them as the Wilds, the Unconquerable Land. This century the humans had taken to calling them the Forest. It was a nice name and they hoped it would stay for a long time.

And the Forest knew how to entice the children. It had been doing it for as long as it could remember. And children were naturally curious things, prone to wander, prone to ignore advice for the sake of curiosity or adventure. All it had to do was plant a thread of curiosity and the child would follow along. And children were so easy to read. 

This one wanted love, so to pick a bloom would bring them what they wanted.

This one wanted to prove their daring, so to stand in the circle would show bravery.

And this one was curious about the unknown, wanted to explore. What better thing to explore than to see if the fairy circle truly led anywhere?

And this one, oh, this one was by far their favorite this century. This one wanted to connect with Nature, wanted to be special, wanted to be the one to change the world, to be a witch. So for this one the circle promised a connection with Nature, with magic. And so she came willingly.
