Let’s start off with my ideal ranking:

It’s All Futile It’s All Pointless

Unpopular opinion I know, but for me The Fall comes in at the bottom of my list. I just, it’s really good, don’t get me wrong, but this is the one with the quietest vocals compared to the instrumentals, which makes it very hard for me to hear/understand. Otherwise, it was a really fucking hard desicsion to make, all of these songs are fucking bangers.

I’m going to elaborate on why exactly I have given each song it’s ranking, and rank it out of 10. As well as like, my own personal thoughts on each song this seems really awkward im so sorry jfc

1) Oh Yeah, You Gonna Cry? - 9.5/10 - This song is so fucking catchy, I love the beat and the lyrics. It’s been a brainworm for me since I first listened to it, and the whole repetition of the fact that ‘you’ve got the same eyes as your father / and you carry the same kind of temper too’. It makes the whole song, like, so much more powerful in my opinion. The whole song just really gets into like, missing someone and liking them and their energy at the same time and the contradictions. And the intro music *mwah* Some of the lines that make me go feral are: “i thought you knew her better than me” “you need to calm down” “say my name in her sleep”

2) Model Buses - 8/10 - I like this song a lot, but for me it just isn't on the same level as some of the others. Don’t get me wrong it’s a fucking amazing song that very much conveys a feeling of just, im not sure. I just know it slaps tho okay. Great lines: ‘And you’re just scared of the future’ (call me out will you), ‘ sound as good with slurred speech / as i do when i’m sober’

3) Concrete - 10/10 - In my mind, a song people seem to be overlooking. The beat is gold, the lyrics fit together so well, just like, yes yes yes. I have no clue what the mood of the song is but I feel it in my bones Lyrics!!! Every single ‘All this over a kiss’ in the whole fucking song. Like yes yes yes. ‘Have to LISTEN TO YOU

4) Perfume - 10/10 - I’m so glad they kept this in the EP. It’s so fucking catchy, and like, in a way it’s a subtle nod to the part in ‘One Day’ that goes “I’m not scared of empty rooms / im not afraid of new perfume” but then going into “i can still smell her perfume / did it rub off on you”. I also really relate to the whole bit about not being able to move on for a lot of reasons. And then circling back at the end with the bit about the taxi? Genius. AND THE HE/THEY PRONOUNS!!! Best lines: the whole bit about your ex boyfriend being a policeman, ‘it’s 3:45 (AM)’, and like, the whole first verse in general

5) You’ll Understand When You’re Older - 8/10 - The beat is catchy and I feel the people always telling kids that you’d understand when you’re older. Just, this one is a banger, the lyrics are genius, and i don’t know how to elaborate on the whole thing jeez. To me also like, the whole part about talking in your sleep which in my mind brings you back to Oh Yeah You Gonna Cry. And being banned from the kitchen because the grownups are talking? Just yes. Best Lyrics: ‘you’re keeping a dark secret, but you’re talking in your sleep’, ‘ sshe said she’s been inside for too long/ well no shit can you tell us something new’

6) The Fall - 8/10 - I like this song a lot, but the audio is quiet, which makes it hard for me to hear. It’s got some good parts, but overall it isn’t my favorite song. I love the way it describes a fall into like, a depressive episode or some sort of mental health crisis. The part about downing prozac and being scared of people like you? Just yes. And the part where Wilbur starts ranting is amazing; even if I don’t understand any of it bc of my auditory processing disorder. And the ending is *chef’s kiss* Best Lines: ‘we're so calm but so fucking scared fucking scared’, ‘a couple prozacs now im pumping dopamine’

7) It’s All Futile It’s All Pointless - 7/10 - I’ve got to say, im kinda disappointed overall with this. Dont get me wrong, it’s really fucking good, but like. It worked better as a guitar ballad imo. Like, the spacing in the ballad was better and i dont get tone, but i liked the tone in that one better. It got the angry and betrayed message across really well. The music in this version was ok, i liked the background to the chorus; it added a very clear angry strong emotion feel. But in a way, the guitar ballad was much more personal. And I really wasn’t a big fan of the ending, which in the ballad was very clearly angry, but in the EP was more like, up beat and funky, as Lovejoy’s music is. Idk, not a massive fan of this version, it’s not bad, just, less my style.

Overall the EP was really good in my opinion. i really love it sm *scream* The vibes are different than Are You Alright, and the vocals are a bit quiet, but overall a very well done job by lovejoy. I hope they keep up this awesome work!
