More children! Sakura: She was definitely the hardest design for me to do but my gosh was it rewarding as hell. I wanted to ensure she looked strong but also cute and all. Thus, I gave her a little flower broach/pin of some sorts on her chest and a little red butterfly clip. Who knows. Maybe it's a gift that she got. Also, I did try with the muscles. I am not the best at those but I tried! Also contemplated giving her pants so she could fight better but opted for the skirt so she still has some ties to her original design. Will def draw her in a full gi sometime though. Might also give her a design with bandages on her arms too. Chihiro: I used a bit of one of Chihiro's beta designs as a base since it was giving some cute energy. Gave Chihiro some headphones too since the outfit wasn't giving the programmer energy. Not that Chihiro's base outfit gives programmer. Still though, wanted to get some of that in there. Also, I have no idea why but I'm looking at little Chihiro now and imagining them making a ton of cool as hell games on Scratch. Not cus they can't use other programs but that they're just that good. Aoi: Was both easy and hard to do for her. Her base outfit already works well for an itty bitty version and I wanted to ensure that I wasn't just drawing the characters but shrunk down. Thus, I gave Aoi longer hair. The hair at the top didn't change though since it's iconic and adds to her silhouette more. No clue how I'd reinvent that. For the colors, I will be real. I kinda just picked whatever to make it look similar but not the same as her original counter part. Thus, hoodie on the waist! Made her shoes similar though cus I felt they fit with that sorta energy of a little girl who's just throwing on some clothes before running off to do some stuff and practice her swimming. Added the acne too cus preteen. Mondo: This little biker boy. Yeah. I had the same issues I had with Aoi which was that his base design was already pretty good material for a younger revamp. However, I needed to give him more stuff to work with. Thus, purple leather coat with the sleaves ripped off! He did not do it for fashion. He probably says that he got into a really gnarly fight when he just got a bit too rowdy with a giant ass dog or something. I also gave him like, one of those twigs or like, a toothpick in his mouth. Cus why not. It looked cool and gave him more. His hair stayed the same too cus he could have gotten tips and tricks how to style it from his older brother, Daiya. Like, Mondo is kinda mirroring him in a sense cus of how much he admires him. Finally, once again with the middle schooler acne. Kiyotaka: I feel Taka has that energy of his younger selves looking like shrunk down versions of his older self. He just has that vibe to him. Thus, I just did some small adjustments for him. Have him a little star on him cus he just gives MAJOR energy of that one kid who excelled and always got like "the star of the day" or something like that. Gave him little boy shorts too cus why not! They look cute! And yes. I gave Taka the Spongebob socks. He does not know that they are the socks of the Sponge. Also, the boots stayed cus why not! Maybe he also wants to look taller cus maybe's a bit on he shorter size. Who knows! I don't! One last thing is that I gave Taka like a missing tooth/tooth gap in his bottom row. I just felt it really added to the whole design. Hope the designs are good here too! As I mentioned on Aoi's section, wanted to ensure that they weren't just a carbon copy of themselves since no one is once they get older. So, yeah. This means I will give them all some horrible fashion choses too or just stuff they could look back on and be like "ew! so tacky". Think that'd be pretty fun!

Wyatt has so much more personality in the show than he does in the movies. I think he's one of the characters that's def benefited the most from the tv show format

Basically I just like that Addison keeps randomly losing her mind in this show I think its a good recurring bit

I absolutely LOVE that we got a whole episode dedicated to Bree, Addison and Bucky omfg- we never actually got to see them working as a trio in the movies, since Bucky was like. The main antagonist in the first 2 and fucked off to hang out with the wolves in the 3rd. So I'm glad we're getting some of that here!

And since we ALSO got an episode dedicated to just the wolves, I hope we get one for the zombie trio in the future, too. We've gotten more of the 3 of them hanging out than we have of the main 3 cheerleaders, but it'd still be cool to get an episode on them :)

Unfortunately I don't think there's gonna be an alien trio episode... unless they decide to bring A-li and A-lan in for one episode and then send them back to the void with the 'aceys?

Which SPEAKING OF- I'm disappointed they fully replaced the 'aceys with just one guy...

I’ve thrown myself head first into icemav recently so I can ABSOLUTELY rec some of my favorite fics I've read so far!!

When We Get Around to Talking About It by @compacflt is the pièce de résistance of icemav fiction I think, for me personally. It's masterfully written and nuanced and just so heartbreaking. the characterization feels so true to how these men would really be in real life and how they would deal with coming to terms with their feelings for each other and sexuality while being in the navy. and as if 90,424 words of beautiful prose wasn't enough of a gift, there is also a sequel/other stories called Debriefing (& Other Stories) which includes a more truncated version of the original but from mav's pov which is just 🤌🏻🤌🏻

Dreams of Impact by thecarlysutra is also very good. It involves a little supernatural flavor, which I enjoy, and revolves around how their lives could be different if they'd just made one single different choice.

come the same colors by susiecarter is a fav. It's a classic 'you got hurt and it's made me reckon with how I really feel about you, but I haven't figured out how to express that'. So basically it's amazing. this author also has a great catalogue of icemav, so it's really a jumping point to read all of her great work. A Shared Cup is another personal fav of mine from this author. it involves soul telepathic bonds. soooo good

a binary star by vannral is a really yummy piece of fanfic. the first line of the description is the perfect primer for how great the rest of the fic is: "Ice hasn’t ever given much thought to celestial things up in the sky but he knows that Maverick burns like one." like. c'monnnn

i'll ride in this life with you by sassenach082 is an ice and mav raise bradley after carol passes away fic, and it's full of sooo much lovely hurt/comfort that is so sweet it will rot your teeth. any fic with a plethora of baby bradley is going to be good for me

I saw beauty to the north by sortalively (tiisis) is a delayed injury fic set post TG:M. It has a lot of rooster and ice and mav reconciling in it which I'm a sucker for. and, if you like the exploration of rooster and mav's relationship (I'm a sucker for parental figure fics lets not unpack that) this author has some greaaaaaaaat fics on their page for that!

cloaked in the bruises of our failures by faerie_ground will rip your heart out. It takes the mission from TG:M and moves it to the 80s with our favorite class of '86 being trained to fly it, all while Mav and Ice are a few years post a messy 'break-up'. I should warn you that this one comes with a trigger warned from sexual assault from a person of authority to an employee, so if you aren't interested in that maybe skip this one. It is so beautiful though and treats the subject with the respect it deserves. slithered here from eden (just to sit outside your door) is another by this author that is very good and I am waiting patiently for an update

a higher fidelity by basedchamp is a classic slowburn with ice and mav developing their friendship before they realize their feelings for one another

no brighter diamond by qin_ling is a wonderful 'five times...' fic and it's so good. Everything by this author is fantastic so you should def check out their other stuff. as lions is about time travel. delish.

You're Gonna Be The One That Saves Me by an orphan_account is amazing. It's got mav struggling post hop 31 and Ice being there to offer emotional support and more if you know what I mean

'Til I Understand by Katastrophe (Karrington) is about Mav punching out of dark star and kind of fills in some blanks about what his loved ones went through while he was missing. Katastrophe is another author with a large catalogue to just go crazy in

PurpleArrowzandLeather has 153 tg fics on their page with a huge variety, some icemav, some flyboys of '86 (which I adore, I love fics showing their friendship). you can get lost in their page for a while haha. they also have their bookmarks public! so you can dig around in there, too

Sailor's Delight by saurora_borealis can be read as ice and mav or icemav and I think we both know which one I infer it as. Mal de Mer by them is like that, too

baby, baby, i'd get down on my knees for you by boasamishipper and simplecoffee is 'five times mav proposes and one time ice says yes' fic. It's sweet as candy

I wanted to shoot you a message and so I hope you dont mind but I was wondering what sort of portfolio you submitted to be able to work on Unicorn Warriors Eternal, I currently am an animator who has been struggling on getting a 2d animation job for a few years now and I was wondering if you would have any advice for someone who feels like they are struggling to get into the industry (Questionmark) Your animation for the show is amazing and I love the little bit of fanart that you made of melinda and edred too!! Once again, sorry if this is a bother but I figured that I would atleast try to ask :)

I still feel super lucky honestly and I've only ever been at this one studio so far, so I don't know how helpful this is gonna be but I'll give it my best shot haha

I was lucky in the fact that the main thing I enjoyed doing during uni was animation clean-up in TVPaint, aaaand then I saw the job listing looking for... animation clean-up in TVPaint! I'm still not the best at rough animation, but as you can see my reel had lots and lots of clean-up examples, and that was exactly what Studio Zmei was looking for.

So, first tip: Focus your showreel on what you want to get a job for! If you're applying for rough traditional animation, show your roughs vs the final thing, or a clean-up heavy reel like mine if you wanna do clean-up, or a reel just for ToonBoom rigged animation if that's what you're applying for.

Second? Tip? Look for more obscure studios, or ask around your local studios (if you have any) if they offer internships or even junior level jobs? Studios are often really biased towards local people, and I was lucky that Zmei just happened to be situated in my home city. We often get interns not from any listings but just from people showing interest in an email. But I also know that's a bit unusual and a lot of studios are more closed off?? And going back to the more obscure studios part: The more well known a studio is, the more insane the competition to get a spot is, hence why usually it's not so much your portfolio's fault rather than the huge influx of candidates. This is where looking at general animation job listings sites can help a lot, and I even found Zmei's listing here in the first place:

Lots of studios use these and they also have twitter/instagram pages to keep you updated as well. If a job is listed as remote, go for it! A lot of smaller studios that handle outsource animation are often starved for animators. (a lot of those do 2D rigged animation in ToonBoom or Adobe too, so it's def worth making a fresh reel for that if it's up your alley) Following a lot of studios on social media and especially LinkedIn helps too, as some of them post listings there exclusively.

And, third tip - there's no shame in starting small. I constantly get spammed by studios looking for mobile game animators or educational video animators on LinkedIn. Sure not all of those are gonna be worth looking into, but a lot of my friends started off like that. Every little bit of experience counts and builds up your CV. It's really hard to jump straight into being a rough animator, or a designer, or a storyboarder. Even my role of doing clean-up is considered more junior, and we had lots of people who did only coloring and shading too. And the more entry level version of a storyboard artist would be a storyboard revisionist. Everyone starts somewhere!

Other things like putting a direct link or linktree to your portfolio site or showreel easily accessible on all of your social medias could also help, as recruiters often have no time to dig for that stuff. (altho I'll be honest I've only ever been approached once (1) by a local studio on just instagram, so that's a really rare occurrence. still helps to be prepared though!)

So I originally thought that the scientist Inky that talks to Blob before the mutant Inky boss fight was just a random one that was interested in studying Blob. rightfully so because I would want to research him too if I was on the losing side of the war. like tell me your secrets magic man

But they're the same person

Mutated Ink was Von's lil project that he was working on for,, quite a bit of time really. he wanted to impress Comrade, his superior, with something that could change the war forever

Of course, this meant holing himself up in his lab as he worked, making him miss the entirety of the first war and therefore missing his chance to show Comrade the fruits of his labor. he had no knowledge of anything that was happening until Blob fucking jumpscared him by falling into his lab Undertale style

I think surviving that rocket is a miracle in and of itself, I would imagine that the mutated ink that caused him to turn into de Blot probably came off in the explosion and he turned back to normal

something something the explosion had color energy in it and with him already being in a weakened state the mutated ink came off

the one difference between him and Comrade is the fact that Von lost due to his temper, and Comrade lost due to his arrogance. Von started this wanting to impress someone who was off doing something else entirely and had no knowledge of anything happening in Chroma

speaking of what was happening in Prisma I think Von went over there asap after hearing about what was going on

he was so caught up with his research and being "de Blot" that he had no knowledge of Comrade's shenanigans in Prisma

he was involved in the creation of the Spikeys and the updated versions of the Elites, and I think that would've gotten him a bit more attention from Comrade, which is WHAT HE WANTED IN THE FIRST PLACE

like, imagine being noticed by your idol after like. what. 5 years?

i think he'd try again with the mutated ink because it was successful in its own right and he, again, thought that it would help them out in the war

with it being so close to the end of the war though, and with the Raydians starting to revolt, I would like to think he gave up on it again and discarded it

HOWEVER.

i like to think that the mutant Inky was a product of this. with him discarding the batch of mutated ink he was working on perhaps some inkies thought that it was a misplaced shipment of ink that needed to be put in the factory

and then boom! confused ink monster fucking up everything

now obviously Blob and co. dont recognize Von because he's not a blob anymore (outside of Pinky)

but von CLEARLY remembers them and of course, hates their fucking guts

SOMETHING ELSE I THOUGHT OF. very quickly before i end the post

he def had something to do with the Blancs. if I remember correctly regular ink will kill anything it touches, including Raydians (no so fun fact: if you roll over a raydian while you are inked, the raydian dies), but in the DS game the mayor gets hit with a glob of what I'm guessing is mutated ink, and he was just annoyed

mutated ink is still ink, but i guess it's not as corrosive as regular ink is? after all, it is mutated ink, it explains why the Blancs look the way they do. they've mutated into something.. unholy

i think comrade would've told him about his plans. his plans to take over Prisma and the world, and bring the raydians to their knees. Von would just look at him and be like "yeah you know how that ended for you last time. it's not like they're gonna listen to you. unless you brainwash them of course"

I do wanna ask tho, just because I'm unfamiliar with the universal phone case design and am very curious on how it would work/look in general, what do the cases look like when they are actually being used?

Here’s a couple pictures of my current phone case, which is also a universal phone case (not my design, I ordered it from Japan LOL):

I’m not sure if you can see, but it has a small leather flap on the back with an adhesive square where you stick your phone. When you want to use the camera, you slide it up like the 2nd photo !

The manufacturer I was in contact with however used a plastic slider instead of a leather flap.

I also use a simple clear plastic case to “double-up” so I’m not sticking my phone directly on the flip case. It also provides extra protection haha

The adhesive is also very strong, this is about the 3rd universal case I’ve used and they each lasted me over a year. I had a Demon Slayer one that I’ve changed out because the case got worn out but not the adhesive LOL

While I do like their color palette, I'm gonnadesign one to match. everyone else. The colors I wanna use for this project (that might eventually change ofc) are brown, orange, golden yellow, magenta, a slightly more purple magenta, violet, indigo, and blueee, with Very Dark Blue and Very Light versions of the other colors for lines and junk. Basically Kalamari Colors ft. some extras to spice things up, since my silly littol practice project revolves around her and how he sees the world:

Skate Canada Review

Men:

Ilia Malinin (USA) Total Score 301.82 - Congrats to Ilia for qualifying for the Grand Prix Final! Despite the challenge of going to back to back competitions Ilia had no problem with securing his second gold medal of the Grand Prix series. Technically he preformed better than he did at Skate America, but I think he was definitely feeling a bit tired, and I think he was struggling especially in the middle section of his free program. His short program has grown on me a lot even tho it’s literally the ugliest costume I’ve ever seen. Also, I’ve been hearing that this was the last time he will be competing in his current free skate costume which is a tragedy, because it’s the best costume he’s had and really don’t see him getting a better one. I think his PCS score was too high.

Shun Sato (Japan) Total Score 261.12 - I think it’s such a slay to skate to Ladies in Lavender when you’re not a lady. He absolutely slayed his short program, but he needs to get his step sequence up from a level 2, because that’s bogging his score down a bit. He struggled a bit in the free program, so I am looking forward to seeing it once he gets it clean. I really liked both of his costumes and I like the new hair color. #FurecocoTrioForever

Junhwan Cha (South Korea) Total Score 260.31 - I am so happy that Jun made it onto the podium!!!! However, I’m going to be honest when I say I’m not really vibing with his programs this season. The Imagine Dragons short program makes no sense to me, and I don’t really like the Latina lady screaming at me in his free program, but his blouse is beautiful, so I will say that I like his free better than his short. There’s lots of room to grow in his free program, and he only had 2 combos, so we def need to change that. His Ina Bauer was great, but he finished a little late on the music. IDK why the judges didn’t give the PCS skills he deserved. He was robbed.

Sota Yamamoto (Japan) Total Score 257 - I love Sota so much and I wish there was four spots on the podium cause I wanted him to be on the podium so badly!!! I love the purple shirt in the short program, and overall the short was very solid. I also really liked his free program. At first I thought it was gonna be a bit boring but the music did a great job at building through the program. I’m absolutely gutted that he fell on his 4T. He also needs to work on not telegraphing his jumps as much.

Vladimir Litvintsev (Azerbaijan) Total Score 222.9 - I had no idea who he was but then I realized that he was the fool who skated to the Lion King while wearing a tiger print t-shirt lol. The Game of Thrones short program was pretty solid. Didn’t love the Nutcracker EPIC version tho, especially the singing at the end. Keep it all Xmas music or don’t use Xmas music. I think he ran out of steam a bit in the second half of his program, and he needs more choreography cause right now he just has a lot of crossovers.

Gabriele Frangipani (Italy) Total Score 222.57 - Who needs Daniel Grassl when we got this guy! He was giving me Adam Driver vibes, and I think it’s cause they have similar noses. Tbh I don’t really remember much from his programs, and they just felt a bit meh to me, but on his defense I was half asleep during his free program. Hopefully he’ll be less meh at the NHK trophy.

Aleksa Rakic (Canada) Total Score 222.49 - Having this guy as the highest scoring Canadian was not on my bingo card. He seems to struggle a bit on his 3A and overall i thought his jump technique was kinda ugly. Overall he had pretty consistently low GOEs on his jumping elements and he didn’t perform well. Lots of room to grow at least.

Jason Brown (USA) Total Score 218. 75 - My beloved. On the technical level, he did not have the best skates, but his overall skating skills remain unmatched. Jason usually isn’t competing this early in the season, so hopefully he just needs more time to get into the groove. I am not really vibing with free music. It was very one note and a little boring ngl. I did like the cartwheel tho.

Stephen Gogolev (Canada) Total Score 216. 84 - Had a pretty good short program but fell apart during the free. Needed more speed and energy, and he needed to EMOTE! He kinda just looked tired

Mark Gordonitsky (Israel) Total Score 213.31 - Meh.

Luc Econmides (France) Total Score 211.88 - IDk why but I always forget what he looks like and then I get surprised when I see him and he looks like he does. Interstellar program was interesting with the head twitching at the beginning and the fake writing at the end but my man was ACTING so I will take it. Had a super scary axis on his 3A in the short and on the 3Lz in the free.

Roman Sadovsky (Canada) WD - I guess he tweaked his back before the event started which is why he wasn’t doing any jumps during practice. But luckily, the injury should have no long lasting impact. I feel so bad for this guy, I feel like he always has the worst luck.

Women:

Kaori Sakamoto (Japan) Total Score 201.21 - I love Kaori so much. She is definitely pushing herself with both of her programs this season, and I just don’t think she feels comfortable yet in either of them. The short was solid, but she did have some unexpected trouble in the free. She looked a little tired, but that’s okay cause we are early in the season, so there’s still time to build up stamina. The blonde hair is starting to grow on me and I love both of the costumes.

Rino Matsuike (Japan) Total Score 192.16 - Talk about the COMEBACK QUEEN. I love the Moulin Rogue program so it better be clean at Finlandia. Her free program was honestly the highlight of the weekend. She had a GORGEOUS spiral and overall excellent skating skills and quality of movement. She slayed.

Hana Yoshida (Japan) Total Score 191.37 - I really liked her short program. She just had a little boo boo with the step out on the combo, and I think she could use more speed during her stsq. I really liked her dress for the free program, but I did not like the mesh gloves. It’s a shame she went down on the 3Lz.

Kimmy Repond (Switzerland) Total Score 191.07 - IDK why but I did not expect her to do as well as she did. Idk how tall she is, but she looks super tall, and her long limbs just looked a bit awkward. I’m pretty sure she ended a smidge behind her music in both the short and the free. I thought she had really nice spins tho.

Madeline Schizas (Canada) Total Score 190.04 - Dear Maddie, there is only one Lion King program and it belong to Wakaba. I did like the Danse Macabre free tho. I’m glad she went with red for the costume instead of black. She was one of my highlights of the weekend, cause I was just so happy that she skated two clean programs in front of her home crowd!!!This was probably the best I’ve seen her perform.

Alysa Liu (USA) Total Score 187.69 - Miss girl kinda got hit hard with the URs, but she still had a great return to the Grand Prix! I really liked both of her programs, especially the free. I think she needs to build up her stamina a smidge, but I’m just so happy to she her back it makes by heart flutter.

Elyce Lin-Gracey (USA) Total Score 182.37 - I wanted her to do good so badly. She almost got the same exact scores that she got at Skate America, so at least she is consistent. But she is just a lil’ cutie and she just needs time to develop and grow! Props to her for competing back to back.

Kaiya Ruiter (Canada) Total Score 162.32 - I liked the short program, but I didn’t realize the free was a Wonder Woman program until we got to the end of the program and the electric guitars were doing the Wonder Woman thing. Had a couple of URs and a two footed landing. But she was very cute, and very engaging.

Ekaterina Kurakove (Poland) Total Score 162.07 - ‘Twas a rough short program. Stepped out on the lutz and it was under-rotated and she didn’t get her combo. She was also pretty slow on the spins. However, she kept on emoting throughout the whole performance. I’m not vibing with the Cats program. Her first mistake was picking the movie version. Her second mistake was wearing the cat ears. Just felt very juniorish to me. I also think there were too many music cuts.

Sara-Maude Dupuis (Canada) Total Score 160.46 - Couldn’t get her combo in the short. Had a crazy axis on the 3Lz in the free and was just getting a lot of URs in general. Overall her jumps were just looking a bit scary. She wore a green dress tho and I thought she slayed

Seoyeong Wi (South Korea) Total Score 140.85 - Got hit hard with the URs. I really liked both of her programs and I thought her costumes were gorgeous, but she just didn’t perform well to them. She really ran out of gas at the end of the free program.

Yelim Kim - (South Korea) Total Score 136.14 - This honestly made me so sad. She is such a beautiful skater but the jumps are just not there. I guess she is recovering from back surgery?!?!?!? Idk, I just really don’t want to watch her perform another disaster program.

Pairs:

Deanna Stellato-Dudek / Maxime Deschamps (Canada) Total Score 197.33 - They’re obviously not in top shape yet, but like I’ve been saying, we’re still early in the season so no need to freak out. Did not really vibe with the short program. The heavy breathing really turned me off, and I’ve learned that this cover was used for 50 Shades of Grey, which turned me off even more. I do like the free a lot better, but IDK what the theme is, or what it’s about. They have a shared dog and it’s super cute.

Ekaterina Geynish / Dmitrii Chigirev (Uzbekistan) Total Score 189.65 - I did not like the weird opening movements in the short. A little trouble with the throw jumps but pretty good overall synchro.

Anastasia Golubeva / Hektor Giotopoulos Moore (Australia) Total Score 186.14 - I hated the music change in the short. And they copied Kao’s free program for their free program lol.

Dance:

Piper Gilles / Paul Poirier (Canada) Total Score 214.84 - The costumes in the rhythm slayed, but his backless suit in the free traumatized me. I get the what they were going for but I don’t think it was executed well. They are so fast, and they are both excellent performers

Marjorie Lajoie / Zachary Lagha (Canada) Total Score 199.9 - I liked the in synch lip syncing, but I did not like it when they FELL! They are so fast on the twizzles and they serve so much face. I’ve heard people don’t like the Sound of Silence free, but I was vibing with it.

Evgeniia Lopareva / Geoffrey Brissaud (France) Total Score 194.25 - Look they were great, but I just don’t vibe with them and IDK why. Rasputin rhythm dance was insane but in a good way. Maybe they’ll grow on me.

No, the edited version is worse and I'm trying to figure out why. Bobtarion (lookswise, and SOME of the surface level of his personality) reminds me of a specific type of middle aged queer man that I am not trying to fuck but enjoy hanging out with sometimes.

This new Bob is like. He's trying to be a very serious elf lord and failing at it. Like I do think I prefer this look to his original one IN GENERAL but *he's* not pulling it off for me.

Maybe if I knew nothing about his character and just saw this new guy I'd be interested? hard to say. I think changing hair+eye color and making him a little less pale would go a long way for me, but the vampire fans wouldn't be pleased.

Anyway, I'm actually tempted to boot up the game and start editing Bob's looks based on your description. Give his skin more colour or saturation since his skin tone is literally called "vampire skintone," which has a really dull and lifeless colour.

Change his hair colour? Maybe platinum blonde to stay close or we can go fully to black or brown.

The problem is, his face genuinely refuses to work with anything else. Also I am very sleepy that is another obstacle between me and the pc.

His eye colour is almost the exact same one as Cazador! Actually it is Cazadors eyes in the edited picture because I thought it would add more drama. His edited look is what I imagined his ascended vampire self to look like, a try hard lord.

my favorite thing about experiencing dracula daily with everyone on tumblr is knowing that most later adaptations have turned van helsing into like. this young, heroic vampire hunter who does nothing but hunt vampires all day, and maybe even has like a whole vampire-hunting legacy in his family.

one of the things i love about ebenezer scrooge, and a christmas carol in general, is that, unlike most fictional rich people, scrooge doesn't allow himself the luxuries that he denies to others.

like. he is enormously wealthy, but does he spend his money on good food and nice things and indulgences? no. he keeps his house dark because it's cheaper to not light things, he eats gruel, he barely even makes a big enough fire to heat himself, let alone the room. he scrimps and pinches pennies everywhere he can - including in areas that other people would consider "necessities" rather than "luxuries."

the story of a christmas carol is as much about ebenezer scrooge coming to realize that his misanthropy and miserliness is making himself as miserable as it's making everyone around him, and learning to once again take joy in living in a way he hasn't allowed himself since he was a boy.

it's genuinely cruel to ebenezer scrooge to compare him to assholes like elon musk and jeff bezos.

for all that he is a terrible, terrible person, at least scrooge isn't a damn hypocrite.

Gladly grabs the mail on his way back, but will defs just leave it all piled on the nearest countertop. This will pile up over time, even when he actually goes through it. Like, he'll take all the important stuff, but then leave the junk there to ‘take care of later’. Later never comes though XDDD

Apologizes for mixing colors in the laundry, but is all too happy to point out how cool everything looks now! Easiest tie-dye ever am I right?

We already know he’s a good cook, but his version of cleaning up after usually involves just leaving all the dirty dishes in the sink until there’s like, a spoon or something all the way at the bottom of the sink, then it’s time to clean everything in there

Gladly helps to fold the laundry, but will also totally goof off by doing some clothing origami XDDD your favorite sweater looks even better when folded to look like a swan

There’s always either some scented candles or incense burning somewhere. This is non-negotiable, and he brought it up before you guys even signed the lease

There is somehow always glitter somewhere!! You’ve asked a million times, checked every room, but neither of you have ever bought any, and yet... somehow he’s always lightly sprinkled in it!!! Sure, it makes him look like literal magic, but why can’t Instagram filters be enough!?

Let’s be real here, Nadia doesn’t need a roommate, she just wants to help out a dear friend to save some money. She never makes you pay for much, but if you insist she won’t argue

Not nearly as clean as people would assume, but it’s not a literal tornado of chaos either. There’s little daily messes that show someone lives there, but the weekly maid service helps to keep things in order

She tried making the two of you dinner... once. There may have been some fire, and a contractual agreement that she would never again approach the kitchen with intent to anything more complex than either coffee or a salad... You guys eat out or have meals delivered a lot. For safety

There’s  specific slots for all the mail. There’s one for junk mail, your mail, her mail, the slot for the old man who lives two levels down but the post office constantly keeps getting the mailboxes wrong.. There’s also hooks near the front door for all of the keys, so it’s always a no-brainer when you need to find them

Because of her job, sometimes has to have either fellow business people over for dinner parties so she can do some networking. You’re always welcome to join in if you like, but she wouldn’t force you to. Also gives you as much notice as possible because it would be rude otherwise

Can sometimes literally disappear into her bathroom all damn day for some mandatory self care. Hair clipped up in a hot towel, bubble bath, shades drawn, wine in hand, light snacks nearby, and spa music playing. She’ll put up a small ‘Do Not Disturb’ plaque outside her door, but she’s never too upset if you need to come in and speak to her about something

For the first few months after signing the lease together, aside from his shit being in there, you weren’t really sure he ever actually moved in. Yeah, Malak was there, and it was obvious he was getting fed and attention, but like... the ‘how’ was the freaky part

Quickly learns how you take your coffee and makes sure to do it perfectly every time. “You take two spoonfuls of sugar with 2/3 cup cream? Well then you’ll need a larger mug to accommodate; here, I get most of mine from this website. You can even ask them about custom designs on any size!”

Will get the mail on the way back from his shift at the hospital, but is likely to forget it as soon as he sets it on the nearest counter. His mind just goes off in too many directions, so you’ll have to remind him a few times if he got anything important

He’s more than happy to help with the prep work for meals, just don’t ask him to actually cook anything. If it’s more complicated than instant ramen, he’s just never been that great at it. However... he very much knows how to prepare instant ramen in at least sixteen different ways!! THANK YOU COLLEGE!!

Everything is clean, but it’s like almost pulling teeth to get more out of him than that. Yeah, the laundry is done, but it’ll stay in the bin until he needs to do another load. Then it’s just dumping the last of the clean stuff on the bed (which at that point is honestly like, three shirts, a few pairs of socks, and two pairs of boxers), loading up the dirty clothes, then maybe shoving the stuff on the bed over to the side he doesn’t use much so he can try taking a power nap

It’s a bit of a hazard when you come home to find he’s got his headphones on XDDD yeah, he’s a really good dancer when he wants to be, but when he doesn’t care and it’s just about havin’ some fun, it’s like trying to avoid falling missiles on an active battlefield

Portia

Ok, let’s be real here, nobody is going hungry living with Portia Devorak. Absolute best chef out of everyone, and is totally cool with doing the food shopping and meal planning. It’s like living with a fuckin’ five-star chef when you live with her! ...just make sure she remembered to put her hair up before she gets going, or you might find a long, curly, red hair in your food

Tries to keep up with brushing Pepi, but it honestly tends to get away from her sometimes in the summer. Hope you don’t mind having cat hair on everything, cause it’s gonna be there no matter how attentive she is XDDD

Plants everywhere!! Roses on the dining table! Daisies by the front window! Begonias in the bathrooms! Carnations on the dressers! And succulents too! Get some of those adorable prickly boys and put them in some super cute hanging planters!!

Not super clean, but it’s not bad either. Like, she’ll still make sure it’s all clean, but she may go around another 2-3 weeks before feeling like it needs to be done all over again. It’s a lot of extra work on top of her job, so it’s gotta feel worth the loss of a perfectly good lazy day!

Right off the bat, the first day she moved in, her first priority was when you guys could have a fun movie night! And it had to have just, everything! Big, fluffy blankets, popcorn and snacks, a pile of 3-5 movies to start, candles, and of course some choice drinks! Ooh, or maybe milkshakes! Milkshakes? MILKSHAKES!!!

Like Julian, after signing the lease, it was hard to tell you even shared a space with someone at all. But after about a month you actually started seeing him around

The mail person has learned that they can just give your stuff to Inanna, and she’ll bring it back. Obviously it can sometimes have a bit of drool on it, but she’s such a good, considerate girl, and she doesn’t have opposable thumbs, so it’s okay!

Usually spends a lot of time in his room, but if his door is cracked, then it’s his way of saying you can come in for a while and talk if you want

Surprisingly decent cook! Nothing fancy, obviously, but usually whatever he decides to make is pretty good! Also always makes his own bread. It’s actually kind of hypnotic to watch... seeing him turn those ingredients to dough, all those muscles working it into the perfect consistency... WE WEREN’T STARING!! HONEST!! we were totally staring

The most chill roomie ever. There’s no crazy, sitcom antics when living with him, that’s for sure. At least, none that start with him... they usually end with him, but he’s almost never where they begin

You honestly can’t remember the last time you had to change a light bulb or replace a roll of toilet paper. It’s like anytime something like that may need to be done soon, it’s already taken care of! How he always knows is literally a mystery you don’t care about solving

You learned real quick that unless you do something drastic, like flushing the toilet in your bathroom, he’s gonna be using up all the hot water in those two-hour showers of his. Honestly it’s a shock he even has enough time in the day for anything when his whole morning routine can take almost all damn morning!!

Let’s be honest here, there’s almost nothing you could ever do to get Lucio Morgasson to take out the damn trash. Well... unless it’s after telling him you bet he couldn’t do it. Then it’s done loudly, and full of spite, with every action yelled so you know exactly when it happened. Don’t forget to make sure to cap it off with ‘well, you sure showed me’ when he gets back, or he might realize it actually wasn’t his idea

How does one person have so much makeup everywhere!? He doesn’t even use that color! Why is it almost gone and partially on the counter!? He has a combination of expensive soaps and Axe in his shower, but all you can ever smell is Axe!! DOES HE EVEN USE THE OTHER STUFF OR JUST BUY IT AND POUR SOME OUT!?

Always orders in for meals. At least it only took one near disaster for him to figure out he shouldn’t be cooking anything for anyone who doesn’t want to die

As cute as they are, he’s the only one who can’t stay mad at M&M when they chew up your shoes. Yup, even with those adorable faces and big, beautiful, mis-matched eyes of theirs. I mean, come on!! YOU CAN ONLY EXCUSE SO MANY PAIRS OF SHOES BECOMING CHEW TOYS!!!

Still doesn’t get why you were upset when he tried installing a stripper pole in the living room. It’s for fitness, obviously!! And yes!! He does all his exercising naked, and you should be grateful for the privilege!!

Thank you for the links! I’ll def look into them! And if you could, I would LOVE if you could transcribe the Loki piece from “Queer Magic” that you mentioned. Money is a little tight on my end right now, so I would like to see if the book is something I really want to spend money on right now, ya know? This way, I can learn about Loki and get a glimpse into the book to see if it’s worth it to me. But that’s only if you have the time and energy to do so!

Also, you mentioned that you “draw a distinction between honoring, worshiping, working, and devoting.” May I ask what the differences are to you? Is it like: honoring is just a general kind of nod to them, worshipping is specifically choosing to look to them and offer tributes and such, working is like asking them to help with spells and things, and devoting is like worshipping only more serious and more pointed? Or am I completely off? 😅

Queer Magic by Tomas Prower

Of all the Norse gods, Loki is perhaps the one most recognized for possessing queer traits. In the legends he is often described as a mercurial and shape-shifting trickster deity and an agent of chaos. The first telling thing about him is his full name, Loki Laufeyjarson, which is unique since it shows that he was named after his mother, as opposed to the macho Viking tradition of children being named after their fathers.

His appearance is described as very beautiful, but he is often found metamorphosing himself into various animals and, on three occasions, a woman. One specific story tells of how Loki turned himself into a mare and allowed himself to become impregnated by the stallion Svadilfari, eventually giving birth to Odin's horse Sleipnir. He is also said to have gotten pregnant via eating the half-cooked heart of a woman and given birth to the demons that plague mankind.

In many other tales, Loki goes beyond showing his usual indifference for gender roles and reveals his disregard for his own gender identity. One of the more popular examples of this tells of how, in an effort to make the giantess Skadi laugh, Loki tied his genitals to a goat's beard and proceeded to castrate himself. In machismo Viking culture where a man's penis was his symbol of power, Loki's attempt to physically emasculate himself for a laugh perfectly sums up his attitude toward sex and gender.

In worship, Loki's correspondences are snakes, elder and beech trees, lead, jet, peppery incense, the color black, and partaking in transgressive jokes.

Honor, Worship, Work, and Devotion

Please know that this is how I define these terms as they relate to my practice. Your mileage, as usual, may vary depending on your own religious practice.

To me, honoring is to pay respect, to allow them a place in your religious practice, but not to actively lay offerings. I respect and love Loki and their family, but I don't usually ping them for magical workings (except for a binding I did recently) or divination. I also honor Aine at this time, but I see honoring as, like, the low bar for my own practice, the space some deities may sit in while we get used to each other.

To me, worshiping is, well, laying offering, saying prayers, thanking them for their presence, stuff like that. It often blends into work, but not always. I'd say that I worship Cernunnos and Aphrodite more than I work with them, but it depends on the time.

To me, working is more active and two-way than worship, where you're laying offerings, but you're also communicating with them and sometimes asking for their help in magic. I'd say I actively work with Azura and Tehuti.

And finally, devotion. To me, this is the most serious version of interacting with a deity. I'm devoted only to Athena, so she has the largest altar, the first dibs on anything, and she's usually the first one I turn to. I accidentally devoted to her when I was young, but I have to say that that's one of the best things that Baby Jasper went and did. She's been my biggest supporter as I've been playing the "fuck around and find out" game in both the magical and mundane parts of my life.

Other people may see it differently, and that's alright! My beliefs most certainly aren't universal. After all, how boring would it be if they were?
