Watched two movies with Billy and Ralph in a row

saw barbie n honestly it was just like. ok. like a 6/10. there were some funny jokes and stuff but it feels like they were trying to send so many different messages at once that they never fully delivered any of them despite trying to spoon feed them to the audience and also the plot and pacing were just like. all over the place. which is to be expected bc yknow its a brand movie but still </3
#it was still a fun movie dont get me wrong but i dont have a desire to immediately watch it again like i did with other movies#the bit about ken being obsessed with horses was pretty funny though#but the dialogue was so. so so full of itself and i think it was supposed to be a joke like look the doll can use big words! but it just-#-made it so so stuffy. and it was very tell dont show rather than show dont tell which was annoying and one of my biggest pet peeves#and to expand on the pacing. the scene about the ken war dragged on for sooo long to the point where i was like. this is the barbie movie-#right? where is barbie? and i kinda get that was a point like about ken being backseated but it was just not done well in that regard#plus it had that anti-indigenous joke which was just. unnecessary and gross.#but yknow. it is what it is at the end of the day its a brand movie yeah its not going to be anything groundbreaking but i do think people-#-are giving it more credit than its worth lol#starspeaks

you know something i do not think you can call the secret life of bees a white savior narrative... it is in fact a key element to the plot that that little white girl was not in fact saving anybody... now maybe i don't know what i'm talking about but i am just thinking we need to better define what terms means and like, spread those definitions around! that's all i'm saying
#there are definitely aspects of the story that are very like. well this is a book written by a white lady!#but i don't necessarily think that has to be a bad thing all the time. we shouldn't ban white ladies from writing about anything other than#like. white lady romance novels and whatever... i fear sometimes white ladies are simply pretty good at what they do!#to be all 'i wish it hadn't been about a white girl' is insane frankly. so you wish it had been completely different and nothing like what#it was like? so you wish it was a completely different story? well you are in luck because they do make those if you look!#i just think the 'i wish this crucial narrative element had been completely context changingly different' criticism is sooo funny#like. well they do make those! it's called other movies! yay!

the best thing for me actually is im getting around to reading the comics that retell from iwtv -> body thief and theyre actually pretty good so far? they cut down on a lot of her narration and often excessive narration which makes the plot fly by lmao. the worst thing however is the art is... well definitely something. at times it works and at times you get this panel of louis thats been making me laugh so hard for like 10 minutes

just found out cesare the somnambulist was 23.. wtf.. he should've been at the club
#watched the cabinet of dr caligari for the first time tonight. was pretty good for a movie thats 103 years old!#the SETS were to DIE for though.. so stylized and beautiful to look at#also there's something extra special about silent horror movies!! i think i liked nosferatu a little better but god.#i mean cesare on his own is sooo fascinating and magnetic to watch and the sets. again. so good#the pacing was. difficult. at some points#but again. 103 years old. i've seen movies from this year whose pacing is only a little bit better.#BUT IT WAS FUN!! i liked it i had a nice time :~)
