The antman movie was good except that it wasn't an Antman movie. It wasn't about Scott and his friends and family. Yes it was about Hope and hank and Janet, but his actual family was hardly in it, or not at all. Cassie was there, but where was cassies mom and Paxton? Where were Luis, Dave and Kurt? The people that actually have been a part of Scott's life and supported him through prison and house arrest. Not to make it fast and furious, but its not an antman movie without family and his family wasn't there

this is my review. :3

if you spot any mistakes, let me know! curious to see what other people thought

this is long btw... and broken into sections in no particular order.

1. marketing

i, like many other fans, saw the teaser dropped and assumed the movie wouldn't be out at least until the end of the year, as par the tradition with most movies. However, this isnt movies, in fact i think forge released this movie at the perfect time for a couple reasons. the first beingo that the release date was on Litha, also known as the summer solstice. the reason this is significant is that many ceremonies for this holiday include celebrations with large groups, something that RHRN provided. I felt like this really added to the aspect of attending a "ritual". another reason forge was quite smart for this is that the hype for people around the world to see what happened at the Kia Forum hadnt died down yet. this worked in his favour, considering this sudden drop brought up the attention again.

i really liked that they used Father Jim Defroque as a marketing tactic. Especially considering it connected festival goers at Download to feel connected with fans that weren't there. The use of Jim's posters at download was very fun too, and fitting they got vandalised due to non-ghost fans assuming it was a real priest. for me that added to the authenticity that he's a real person that is very serious about protesting this movie!!!

i also liked the experimentation going on, even if it doesnt go to plan (problems with the jim video drop), the fact that these new mediums are being tested out allows room to figure out kinks and try them again in the future. it added to the interactive element, and made me forget tobias existed, and that this was a very real band and there were very real things going on that i had to be weary of.

2. Music

One thing i did notice is the improvement in quality compared to their previous live album, Ceremony and Devotion. Obviously theres a big change in vocals, i was very surprised that Copia's vocals seemed a lot more high pitched than what i had remembered.

the easiest comparison i can make that's accessible to everyone right now here Rite Here Rite now's Absolution, and Ceremony and Devotion's Absolution. most notably for me was the backing vocals and the presence of this growling and sinister tone, that i really enjoyed. the overall quality is definitely there too, i'm not certain on the specifics but i know for a fact there was a very different set up this time around, compared to C&D.

if you have ghost live, was such a haunting moment. theres many little elements, the backing vocals, the gorgeous piano, and the incredible cello players had a huge part in making this version sound the way it did. the amount of passion and emotion here reflected the message of the song, there was a sense of unity that i felt really stood out.

Its also worth talking about The Future is a Foreign Land. oh my god i cried when i heard this for the first time. this song really encapsulates that sort of bond-esque era of music, undeniably it had that 60s ring to it. It did also remind me of Magna Carta Cartel (more so than subvision, i dont think subvision has quite the same sway as this specific song). i know some others have pointed this out and i'm glad.

from a story point, this song is really interesting. considering we previously had no context of how nihil responded following the events of kiss the go-goat, it was kind of cathartic to know that he did genuinly feel bad for his actions. more about this in the use of animation though.

For tobias forge, this song was really interesting. i felt like it was a bit too blatant having the mention of 2024, i guess it felt like it was implying that from that moment nihil knew that thqt was the year copia would take over as head of the clergy, or at least that seestor would die. which wouldnt make sense? i dont think? idk comments are on, share what you want.

3. Animation/mixed mediums

i wasnt sure how the animation element would tie in with the movie when i first saw it announced, but honestly i think this was the best way to do it. while i was a bit disappointed to see nothing new from liz fenning and justin andrews, the decision to lean into the comments of ghost making scooby doo music and using that artsyle was very fun.

i also felt like this was a time effective way of explaining the events post kiss the go-goat. seestor's idgaf attitude was amazing, im so glad that this didnt fall back on letting nihil get the girl in the end. characters dont have to get back together, and im glad they didnt. this felt more real and more personal, the two of them only sticking around to work and to make sure their children grew up to serve their duties.

the overlay during year zero was so fucking cool. i think its clips from swedish black comedy "Häxan" but i could be very very wrong. this made me very happy though, i wasnt expecting this and was a nice way to throw in some references to swedish media, especially one that also enjoys making fun of the fear around witchcraft and satanism,

4. the ghouls!!

suspiciously well behaved. did not expect that. i was a bit disappointed that we didnt see that much of them and that they were so well behaved??? what happened to my feral creatures???

as per usual, their perfomances were amazing. the backing vocals sent me to heaven, i think best example of this is during mary on a cross, or kaisarion. Seeing Phantom and Dew show off their silly skills was very fun, love me a man that can become a pretzel while he serenaded me with songs of satan. while i am upset that we lost Aether, im glad his replacement is bringing some silliness to his role and seeing his growth with the band had been really rewarding.

i will say cirrus's reaction to seestors death did get me. like damn. youre right this is sad. i think also seeing someone die is actually quite shocking, we dont really know much about seestors relationships with the ghouls so theres not a whole bunch i can add.

im so glad they werent unmasked, i feel like that would've ruined the mystery of what ghouls look like. and i mean not as performers but as fictional creatures. everyone has their own version, similar to how Vessel from Sleep Token keeps on his mask to allow the audience to project onto him.

hearing rain's voice scared the shit out of me. i forgot he knew how to do that.

5. the off stage segments

i am so glad this is how the movie was broken up. what comes to mind for me is copia and nihil in the box just before if you have ghost. this was a gut punch of a moment for me, for a deadbeat parent to just decide they want to be there all of a sudden, because your other parent is bothering you? i did appreciate that big drop of "oh yeah actually i had three songs oops anyway deep breaths loser youre on"

the sudden drop of something like that is insane, and nihil being so smug about it, knowing that he's been keeping that quiet for so long just aaaaaah. but also i get why it was kept quiet, considering how personal the Future is a Foreign Place is to him.

it was at this point i began to cry. and i did not stop crying at this movie, even past the credits.

i did love that there was like no real chemistry between copia and Ashley. like yes, she has a job to do, and copia is known for being useless around women. and also like, theyre co-workers, they dont need to have romantic relations. i liked that!!

i am going to jump to the ending. post encore after the hot air balloon scene. i will not be spending much time on this because my dumbass really believed that copia would just float away into space and thats the movie over.

seestor's death was so unexpected. but i think it made sense. i have mixed feeling about her, mainly the whole "lol yeah i told my 55 year old son i was his mum last month and now ive decided to parent" but thats mainly it. she has a job to do, and she does it well. shes also just the baddest bitch in the world.

i was crying at her dying. and then hearing Copia's pathetic cries had me choke at the emotional whiplash as my friend laughed at me. and i laughed at copia because what the fuck was that noise bro.

AND SHE DIED IN HER HEELS??? girl is serving cunt in the afterlife thats C-U-N-T spells CUNT

finding out copia has a twin (?) was also very shocking, id always assumed he was named Copia becauses hes a copy of his dad, not because like... hes one of two??

Post credits had the entire audience gagged. firstly, seeing copia out of his red tracksuit and wearing his fancy new suit that came with being promoted to Father Imperator (or frater imperator, as some have dubbed him which makes sense and is fair) had me yeowling like a cat being dragged to the vets. Tears were over by this point, i was so proud of him. and happy that forge didnt lie, copia dient die he just now is the real one in charge.

the does also shine a light on how papa doesnt actually have any power, he's just a pawn for the clergy (secondo spitting out im a marrionette??? hello??? he knew full well that he was never the one in charge which is insane. but also fitting for him as a person).

if you're still reading i am very impressed. heres where i put the conclusion;

in conclusion, for Forge's first movie, this was AMAZING. For a band that was originally meant to be scary, its nice seeing them be silly and lean into the things people joke about. they're self aware, and they're fun. i really hope there are future installments and that we get an expansion on the lore (tv show when???)

i really love your realisticness about what we could actually get in s5 when it comes to byler spice. lover's lake is a perfect set up, and i agree that peak romance being needed. although the reason i've always been in the spicy camp is because, to me, the more we see, the less explicit/dirty/spicy/lewd it will be?

cutting to black like jancy is too... dismissive, almost. it implies that the couple has found peace and simply needs to do the deed, and that the sex quality didnt matter, only that they did it. but surely the conflict for mike and will IS the question of hiccups and doubts even during? Can we, should we, do this? i think that what we DO need to see IS the fumbling, IS the constant glances at each other to make sure it's ok, IS the hand grabbing another hand and tentatively guiding it down to the crotch, probably over clothes, etc! i want to see their relationship literally transform before my eyes. and i think we need to see that hesitation and fear mixed with excitement in their eyes even during the act, that inexplicable oxymoron that is first desire and losing your virginity.

the first shadow REALLY plays up the idea of desire and intense emotion making electricity and lights go haywire, and it was sometimes done tongue in cheek as an obvious sex joke (the whole theatre laughed). its sooooo duffers to use this for will and mike. what better metaphor than the whole hawkins power grid sparking out because mike made will come so hard he literally BLACKED OUT?? and it doesnt need to be kinky or lewd! it could be over for will in 10 seconds as soon as mike touches him, but that doesnt make it less intense or hot - but the important thing is that will came because of the emotional intensity of them having sex, not just the physical sensation. i think this is the difference between gratuitous and meaningful movie sex.

and then the actual climax (lol) of that emotional arc will be their peace and contentment AFTER its done, so we also need to see the post-sex scene. you mentioned shy smiles and doing up a belt, but i think they deserve a whole night together. i would love love love to see them waking up together, maybe even accidentally thwarting a mission somewhat because they left their walkie talkies in another room? idk. something that ties it into the plot well.

a quick fumble can be sexy but i don't think byler need that - it keeps them too in the friends category, and the audience needs to know for sure that their relationship has transformed into something else and can never go back. THIS is a coming of age arc. their first time can't resemble a one night stand in any way. i also think will wouldn't be able to emotionally cope with sleeping with mike in a barn in the afternoon and then just going back about his day. i think he would need at least one business day and night to process it lol. will's sleep quality has also been a big theme of the show - imagine if he sleeps with mike and wakes up in his arms the next morning having slept soundly for the first time since he was 12???? literal perfection.

I AGREE WITH ALL OF THIS - I tried to be realistic in my assessment/predictions but I guess I'm just trying to set the bar low to either be happy with what we get or surprised if it exceeds expectations. But this ship deserves the world. They deserve care and peak romance and softness and it to be the moment. Truly, there is so much more going on in the show but I really do believe that byler is the heart of the show, a major turning point and overarching theme so I do hold out the hope that they get something really beautiful. What a waste, if not?

I compare to the 2 sex scenes we've gotten because that's the only frame of reference for that sort of romance we've really seen - but in actuality, yeah, it doesn't really make sense for a repeat or an homage. They'd get their own moment. Gosh, you've described some wonderful direction and context and potential imagery for the scene. I especially love "will's sleep quality has also been a big theme of the show - imagine if he sleeps with mike and wakes up in his arms the next morning having slept soundly for the first time since he was 12" LIKE??? Oh that's fantastic. Your brain. My heart ahhh. Wouldn't that just be the loveliest? How indicative of their relationship as a whole, and one of the classic pillars of romance - "find someone with whom you can rest." Ahh. That's what they are to each other, aren't they? Mike - running from himself, from society, from guilt, from his feelings, from danger. Will - plagued by nightmares, and hate, always looking over his shoulder for monsters and humans alike. Have them express their love not just emotionally, but physically, but then let them rest. With each other.

I am furiously making notes on these, cuz like, I've been doing a lot of Minecraft and Destiny 2 content and it's growing incredibly stale ... and people like seeing me scared apparently

I'm very used to shooters in general, but the clunky tank controls of older games bring back so many good memories (Tomb Raider 3 comes to mind here) so I'm willing to try all these games at least once, and I don't mind using a ROM, I've had to do it a lot with going back to my childhood like WWF No Mercy on the N64 (god I'm old)

I've seen and heard good things about the RE3 remake and Village, but I heard you kinda need to play RE7 first, care to weigh in on that?

(finally, the Alan Wake 2 trailer convinced me that I would need to be either high or drunk or both to even remotely attempt to play it)

im glad you can find some use in my recs. but yea people tend to like to watch horror games be played. look how fnaf popped off.

oh if you have the original alan wake definitely wanna give that a go. you cant really play the second without the first or it doesnt make a whole lot of sense but its also not scary at all compared to the second. not even 2min in and theres a jumpscare that gave me a heart attack. it also just plays with your mind alot.

if you like shooters you might like f.e.a.r. its not really a resi style game but its an fps with horror elements and some of the jumpscares are really good. the ai is wicked smart though so it gets pretty hard at some parts. if you're going the rom route eternal darkness is a good one, kuon is a magic based atmospheric horror from fromsoft so its really hard but the horror is out of this world. and then theres always itch.io that has a bunch of retro style indie horror games you can really have a field day with.

a lot of people didnt like re3 remake for everything they took out (i have opinions dont get me started) but its really fun and another one you can beat in a little over an hour (well my record is an hour and 12min but that was a speedrun i did so i dont know how long it would take someone not used to it. i love it though its my go to i dont know what to play game. with village you techniceally dont need to play 7 because they do recap it multiple times but village is a direct sequel to 7. if you really wanna be scared though play 7 cuz theres a bunch of horror movie references in it. the one that gets me the most is the evil dead/ringu one in the very beginning. it is a little on the difficult side if you're not used to survival horror because you really do have to just run away from enemies instead of engaging with them or you can really screw yourself. i would say play 7 first but if you get scared easily it might not be the best idea

Lost my first draft so I'll try to reiterate my take below the cut. Hope it makes sense.

Feels like people ended up mixing up depiction with endorsement while ignoring the circumstances behind Ruby wanting to ascend including her first therapy session with Herb being cut short, every attempt at explaining getting interrupted by plot, and especially getting beaten physically, mentally and emotionally by manifestations of people who she likely blames herself for getting killed (Not sure why Leo is there. Dude dug his own grave.). Everything led to what I affectionately call mecha mommy therapy which was the part that got her back in her groove upon deciding she doesnt have to fit this perfect paragon ideal after learning even # supermom had her issues. Of course, shes still working on things if the second justice league movie and rwby beyond 4 are any indication.

It likely doesn't help that ascension is treated as an entirely natural thing for afterans due to applying fae rules to sentient computer programs and recyclable meeseeks. They live to perform a task, they complete it, stray away or fail at it, they die, they respawn either better suited for said task or made to complete another, rinse and repeat in perpetuity. That and it may not work the same for those not of the Ever After, seeing as Alyx is dead.

Compare it to Genlock 2 which outright treats it as a good thing as Cammy decides to become a ps2 FMV model after giving in to depression post Kazu's bury your gays moment before everyone else comparable does it. Also doesn't help it's called ascension there as well.

On the subject on "Acencion" from volume 9 of RWBY

I'll be honest, I didn't exactly catch the suicide inclinations of the volume. That said, I'm not going to sit here and say it's not their. The fact that so many people saw that tells me that something went wrong with how CRWBY told the story. Now, personally, I don't think they did this on purpose. Even with how shitty RT has been, I don't think they would knowingly put a 'suicide is good' message in the show. That said, the fact that this still went through tells me that no one stopped and said 'maybe we should rewrite somethings'. Conclusions: Something needs to change. New Writers. New Blood. Pre-watchers. Something needs to change so that this doesn't happen again. And to anyone who dropped the show after seeing this volume: You have every right to do so. Like I said, intended or no, the fact that you got a negative message from this shows that something went wrong, and you have the right to stop supporting the show as is.

I decided to watch Troy (2004) just to compare it to the Song of Achilles and my general knowledge of the trojan war and here are my notes:

Why is Agamemnon the King of Sparta here? He's the King of Mycenae, not Sparta??? (Oh, is this one of those things, like, most people recognize the name Sparta but not Mycenae, but most recognize Agamemnon and not Tyndareus/Menelaus so they just put them together? Stupid)

Theyre cousins? Achilles and Patroclus are cousins, you know, to really sell in how not gay for each other they are

They just skipped over the whole part with the wind not existing. Rude.

Why does Briseis know Paris? She lives in a village outside of Troy, and gets brought into the plot by raiding? It doesnt even make a little sense that she would know the prince???

The casting for Patroclus annoys me. The vibe is just off

So they're already at Troy 40 minutes into the movie, what are they doing with the remaining 2 hours? Just fight? Bleh

So Agamemnon isnt King of Sparta here actually, but it was just framed really weirdly in the beginning

Everything here is so heterosexual. And the worst part is that i cant even tell if it's to remove all possible suspicions of gayness, or if these kinds of movies really just are that heterosexual. This scares me.

So, um, yeah, they're fighting. . . Do the filmmakers realize that im mostly not paying attention to these long stretches of fighting because theyre simply just not plot relevant at all. Im just sitting here waiting for something to actually happen

The helmets that the trojans wear look really stupid

Achilles just kills two unarmed priests like its nothing. In the song of achilles he says he doesnt fight/kill unarmed people. Hmm.

"Ive killed men in five countries" - Achilles. What countries? Im pretty sure youve never left greece, dude. (Or are we talking City States? That is far less impressive)

Either way, No, cause isnt he supposed to be unexperienced in real battle?

Overall it seems like this movie tries to make achilles seem more badass than he actually is

The Agamemnon vs Achilles rivalry thingy seems way more agressive here

The plot is moving forward so quickly

Like, we're not even halfway through the movie and we're already at the point where achilles refuses to fight. What is the other 1 h 40 minutes about then???

Giving Patroclus this little screen time should be a crime. He has been in like 3 scenes so far

"I thought you how to fight but I never thought you why to fight" - Achilles. "I fight for you" - Patroclus. Very heterosexual of you, mates

(Also, yes, Achilles taught Patroclus to fight here and Chiron doesnt seem to exist)

Why did they kill Menelaus? He actually survives to the end of the war, so why kill him so early on?

It isnt believeable to us as an audience that Patroclus's death brings out this unbridled rage in achilles. We havent formed enough of a bond to this patroclus, because he has been in such few scenes

The only defense they have for this turn of events is that theyre quote unquote "cousins". But still, that is just a "fact", not something that makes us sympathise with achilles's feelings/actions

Also, the trojan war is supposed to last TEN YEARS! Here all events happen withing the span of like 3 days!!!

One scene with a random soldier carving a toy horse for his son back home was really cute tho

Wait, they're making the trojan horse, but achilles is still alive? THEY'RE MESSING WITH THE TIMELINE

(I get why they did it, for narrative purposed, but it still annoys me)

Briseis was easily the character that was changed the most from the source material

But credit to them for writing "inspired by Homer's The Illiad" and not "based on" in the credits. At least they're aknowledging that the movie isnt exactly accurate

Yeah that was all I has to say. I think the movie in itself was fine (although far from perfect), but when we compare it to what it was based on some things come across as strange

after a 2nd watching, heres my current view on the barris/guy dexter situation (spoilers below cut)

I love barris! i love richard ellis! i would have been happy to have them stay together! but i completely understand how it was cut off. to me, it seemed like richard saw the risks that come with their life with the gay club situation in the first movie, and decided he didnt want to risk that. which i feel is perfectly reasonable. i like to think he found a girl who understood, and was happy to marry him as he is. richard gave thomas the option of staying together while hes married, but i think thomas has almost grown up since season 1 with the duke, and since then hes decided for himself that isnt what he wants. like he said at the end, he wants a life thats as honest as someone like him can get. i think richard would respect that, they dont part on bad terms, and i like to think they continue to write to eachother as friends, that richard and thomas are both good influences on eachother for years to come, and totally respect eachothers views on life

i also really like guy! hes one of the few people who really seem to respect thomas' feelings and wishes, he instantly changes the way hes speaking to thomas when he realises its making thomas uncomfortable in any way. he put them both on the same level, doesnt want to elevate himself above thomas at all. as everyone else said, hes a really nice person in general. him and thomas seemed to lift eachother up and encourage eachother in the few scenes they had. it was also nice the way guy specifically said "we'd have to work it out" or whatever it was when talking about what would happen if he couldnt act, he wouldnt leave thomas in the lurch, they'd figure it out together. he also makes it clear that its totally up to thomas if they make any sort of romantic/sexual relationship, he'll respect those boundaries. so if you personally dont like the idea of them being in a relationship, just imagine them as friends in the future! its an open ending, it can be whatever you want!

in terms of thomas, i think it was made clear from the start of the movie that what guy is offering is exactly what he wants. he expressed wanting to live as honest a life as possible, he talked about wanting to travel, and those things are completely consistent with his previous characterisation. he did well in america previously, hes really always wanted to get away from the abbey too. he might have had a few happier years, but downton is still a place with some awful memories for him, with people who will never really respect him the same way they did carson. it makes sense for him to want to leave. however you look at it, guy is offering him a stable future, the opportunity to travel, relative safety, and as close to a marriage as they can get if he wants that. it seems as hopeful a future as possible.

im glad barris got some time together, and i do think it made thomas happier, showed him that he does have a chance at happiness. they had a good run of it too, anywhere between a year and 2 years i reckon, and at any rate their relationship was just as long as tom and lucy were together before the wedding.

i also think thomas did have time to get to know guy, even if it was off screen. the actors were there for at least a month, and guy made a point from the start to get to know thomas. to compare that to upstairs couples, it wouldnt seem out of the ordinary for any of them to know someone for a month and do no more than glance at eachother suggestively for them to get engaged. i dont see why the same cant be said for thomas and guy.

tldr, i think both couples are good, and you can imagine the future for both however you want, so long as you arent pulling other people's ships down. thomas can be with guy and still be friends with richard. he can be friends with guy and start up with richard again if you really want. just stop being so fucking pessimistic about with, and definitely stop being a dick about it in the thomas barrow tag. write fics and be nice about it all to everyone. as far as i care, all that matters is thomas' happiness

1. I wish Rachel hasn’t used the gods to create the comic but rather turned them into human OCs. The fact that they’re rich, immortal and attractive make the stakes so damn low we don’t even have anything to genuinely fret over narrative wise.

3. im sorry but the only distinguishing factors between literal gods and humans is that the gods are neon colors and thats it is so dumb?? like what about demi gods? how about exceptional mortals? like how can anyone compare psyche to a goddess then if shes not neon colored? also theres a ton of myths where gods are easily able to blend in with humans without changing anything because they are supposed to look like them, so how can they do that if humans are normal skin tones but the rest are neon?

4. I honestly feel like a big part of why LO is so bad is it's just way, WAY too long. The first few episodes were fast paced and kept you interested, but once it really pocked up on popularity you can see Rachel just started stretching everything out and dragged it back to a snail's pace. I'm all for a slow burn, but that shouldn't for the readers. If it was this long and there were months/years of progress in story I would excuse it, not at most a month in all this time. It's exhausting to read.

5. ok but why do even the humans in lo look so wonky? idk i think her more early abstractions with human forms was really so much better than this more realistic but also more cartoony look, it just doesnt mesh well. sure its technically cleaner looking but it starts to show the many flaws in the art than the previous look didn't. in the early look you could excuse it as coherent stylization, in this current look it just looks like rachel and her team either are very lazy, cant draw, or both.

6. also the disney hercules movie 1) never claims its myth accurate but also 2) its still just a fun movie?? LO in comparison is a self righteous slog that thinks its reinventing the wheel and is more legitimate than the actual texts all while being so wrong its not even"myth fanfic", its just a completely different story with greek names slapped on it for marketing. disney also had the good sense to not make the whole story about a dark topic, meanwhile LO is milking R//PE for a creepy romance.

Also, bc I know someone is gonna say it: Yes, incest was pretty much par for the course in Greek mythology, but in LO Rachel seems to actively want to avoid that particular aspect (which is understandable). Zeus and Persephone were orginally biological niece and uncle as well, since Persephone was the daughter of either Zeus or Poseidon and Demeter, but in LO this is retconned into Demeter making Persephone herself without a father being involved, making HxP still sketchy but not blood-related at least.

The Hestia and Athena-situation seems like a comedic mistake RS made. She hastily threw together two same-gender characters to counteract the accusations of homophobia and straightwashing and it just... backfired in the most hilarious possible way.

From OP: Athena and Hestia aren’t technically related in LO but it’s still really odd that Demeter, Hera, and Hestia come from Metis but have no relation at all to her other than she created them. Like, you’d think even Metis’ power would connect them in someway but I guess not. The three even used sisters to refer to each other (although, it was only retconned once and left in the other time) so I still their (Athena and Hestia’s) relationship weird.

This isnt just an LO thing but it's ironic Rachel is in that group of WT creators who went to art school and yet have some of the most subpar art i've ever seen, meanwhile the self-taught creators who went to school for medicine, engineering, comms, etc all have some of the most beautiful art i've seen in a webcomic. Anyway LO stans have to stop using the "she went to art school" excuse since it'd pretty clear she's not the only example where art degree =/= good art.

The ones that suffer the most

I wanted to talk about this for a long time.

I’m a Resident evil addicted, I finished almost every RE game released and I must say that Capcom made some poor choices regarding Jill and Chris, they are EASILY the most mistreated characters in RE Franchise. 

But let’s explain why is that: 

Jill and Chris are survivors, they had to survive in a mansion with a lot of puzzles and zombies, while looking for items that could help them to progress and find a way to reach Brad. 

When they arrive at STARS Office, they are revolted that Umbrella did all that under their noses and innocents were dying because of that and they explained EVERYTHING in a report - but Irons made that go away. 

In the ORIGINAL RE3 we had this special file (Jill’s Diary) 

August 7th Two weeks have passed since that day. My wounds have been healed, but I just can't forget it. For most people, it's history now. But for me, whenever I close my eyes, it all comes back clearly. Zombies eating people's flesh and the screams of my teammates dying. No, the wounds in my heart are not healed yet...

August 13th Chris has been causing a lot of trouble recently. What's with him? He seldom talks to the other police members and is constantly irritated. The other day, he punched Elran of the Boy's Crime department just for accidentally splashing Chris's face with coffee. I immediately stopped Chris, but when he saw me he just gave me a wink and walked away. I wonder what happened to him...

August 15th Midnight. Chris, who has been on a leave of absence for a "vacation," called me so I visited his apartment. As soon as I walked into his room, he showed me a couple of pieces of paper. They were part of a virus research report entitled as simply as "G". Then Chris told me that, "The nightmare still continues." He went on to say that, "It's not over yet." Ever since that day, he has been fighting all by himself without rest, without even telling me.

August 24th Chris left the town today to go to Europe. Barry told me that he would send his family to Canada and then he would follow Chris. I decided to remain in Raccoon City for a while because I know that the research facility in this city will be very important to this entire case. In a month or so, I'll be joining with them somewhere in Europe. That's when my real battle begins...

For some weird reason this file isn’t available in RE3 Remake. 

But ok, here we see that Chris was doing some investigation - in the RE2RMK  you could see this letter that Chris left in a way that normal people wouldn't understand - the only thing that Claire says is that “doesnt look like him” but how normies would understand what Chris is like is he is not well represented in media ??????????????????

And Jill had all the detective work in her wall. 

So far so good - we understand the basics about them - they are Special police force, the elite, they had a traumatic experience and they survived to tell the story. 

Some problems until now:

Jill had a MAJOR personality change in RE3 RMK- I honestly like most of that, she is a badass in the originals and she is a badass in the rmk but I still dislike the fact that she swears all the time (specially because in RE1, RE Rev, RE5 she doesn't do that) 

We can tell a lot about her personality just looking at her room, but I still miss some stuff (I had expectations - so this is not a real problem. but still) like a Vinyl player (since she is probably into classical music), some letters from her father so new players can understand her origin and why is she so good in lockpicking and more about her dog (she had a pic in the original that could’ve been her boyfriend but it was replaced by a dog in RE2 rmk but in RE3 Rmk there in no dog) 

Okay - after you finish the game the only thing we see is this: 

In my opinion this is Chris since he is always associated with Green colors while Jill is associated with blue. 

So my speculation here is that she found him while in the original we had this: 

This is not a major chance but still is important (lore of course - duh) but the problem here is that while Jill is looking for him - Code Veronica is happening. 

So I can only assume two things, they did not show him because they DON’T HAVE A FACE FOR HIM or I am wrong and that is Jill, but if that is Jill so why there is no decent epilogue like the original ? 

Okay, now we are arriving in the real trouble area

I will do RE5 first and the Wii and Rev1 (even tho those two comes first in the lore) 

RESIDENT EVIL 5 

So before the game was release we had some propaganda, including this: 

So have in mind that Jill was dead, I thought that she died and RE5 would explain that shit. 

But in the beginning we see that Chris is looking for her and have in mind that Chris HAD A MAJOR CHANCE IN HIS APPEARANCE, and I’m not talking about his muscles. 

I will not address Chris in CV since he was good in that game but I the team that made CV also made the original, it had CONSISTENCE. 

Here we have Chris, he’s THE classical american soldier protagonist from Hollywood in the 80′s/90′s and he had some omage to TOPGUN

He also shares some traits with his sister

A major trait here is that HE HAS BLUE EYES, typical good looking soldier from US. 

and now let’s have a look at Chris in RE5...

Yeah... I still hate this face even tho I love his Character in this game, this ugly a** monkey looking mf and he had a lot of steroids

So we have some lore to him in RE5, Jill and Chris went to a mansion looking for Spencer (one of the fathers of Umbrella and the one that was behind project Wesker, he wanted to do this Virus so he could live forever, so RE has a good lore, it’s not just about zombies) but when they found him, he was dead and Wesker was by his side, in a fight Jill sacrificed herself to save Chris’s life. 

Chris started doing mission after mission because her body was never found, and he made a name for himself, he became a ‘legend’ inside BSAA and you can see that in the beginning of RE5.

The reason behind the muscles was probably to fight Wesker mano to mano but still is not well made, it really felt weird playing for the first time. 

So now we have a problem here, there is thing that you use in a narrative that is to make someone strong af powerless, and they did that to Jill. (a good example of this is in TWD- Ricky is a fucking legend and Negan made him powerless in the face of a event) 

Jill was used in a Boss fight and that is it... She is not in the game as a character, she is being manipulated and her whole design was changed, she looks like Nina from Tekken. WTF. - BTW, the fact that Wesker had mind control over her created 1000 fics of sex 

 So that is it, my main problem here isnt Jill itself, but it’s the fact that they used her character as a boss even tho she is the heroine, she never appears in RE lore again until some guy inside Capcom said “Well people are asking about Jill so let’s place a file in Rev2 saying that she is in rehab” 

The only time that she appears again is in a 3DS NINTENDO ONLY game, it felt that Capcom simply don’t care about her character. 

By the way Revelations 1 is a great game and was adaptable some years later for PC and consoles

But you think that this is bad, wait until we arrive at RESIDENT EVIL 6 

When I learned that Jill was not in RE6 I was mad... But after I played that game I said “thank you God” that game was bad, transformers kind of bad, it had bad writing, the lore was all over the place and Chris was the one that suffered the most in this game. 

He was responsible for the death of an entire squad, suffered amnesia and people still wanted him in the command 

THEY MADE HIM AN ALCOHOLIC 

The golden boy of BSAA reduced to THIS. 

By the way, the director said that HE WANTED TO KILL CHRIS IN THIS GAME to SUBVERT EXPECTATIONS - so if you liked Piers now that he died only because of that. 

So now let’s analyse what we know: 

The first 2 main characters are not well represented in media until RE6, they don’t know how to re introduce Jill in the games and Chris was reduced to a normal guy at a Russian bar;

But it gets worse... 

Capcom LOVE Leon, we know that. he is always the hero, he is the protagonist in almost every movie and he is always the cool guy so when he get’s a new model, he looks like this:

But When Chris get’s a new face he look like this: 

WHO DAFUQ ARE U, no offense to the model but he has NEGATIVE JAW LINE.

And still he doesn't look like Claire’s brother, there is no blue/green eyes and he looks younger that he was in 6 (and 6 still uses that ugly character model) 

But let’s go in the lore- we HAVE 0 info on Jill in RE6 / RE7 and no sight of her in RE8 

And speaking of which, they tried to make Chris the bad guy in the trailer so when we play we see “Ohhhh he was not the bad guy, that happened and that is why he did that” 

But still... 

If they are going to do that to his character don’t use this character, shit ! Do something with that Wesker’s son that made 0 sense in RE6 but leave Chris out of this - it really feels that they simply don’t know how to treat him right

And you may think that I may be complaining a lot because of his appearance

But this is him in RE8  

(to me this is some random dude from Russia) 

And this is him in RE:Verse (that is going to be release TOGETHER) 

So this tells me that they have 0 clue of how to handle his looks

Jill got RE3Rmk but it felt like a cheap game compared to RE2Rmk where the original RE3 was SO MUCH BETTER

And this is bad because there are so many new fans joining the fandom only to see 2 great characters suffering from poor director’s choices. 

I’m sorry about this rant, if you like Chris face and looks its okay, really, but dont tell me that Chris from 5/6/8 is the same from 1/CV and if you think im wrong about Jill its fine, but she is an amazing character that could have so much more impact in RE universe (I mean, she never even appeared in a RE movie - animations) 

But it’s sad to see so many characters that receive good representation in media and good games/lore while Jill get’s almost none and Chris is handled like random face guy. 

I was going to talk a little bit more about Rev 1 and RE Umbrella Chronicles but there is no need since Im mad right now and it seems that Capcom has 0 interest in making Code Veronica and Umbrella’s fall after that since their fav boy Leon need a rmk in RE4 even tho RE4 is not that old.

Fun fact: Chris served in the Air force, so yeah, to me even Tom Cruise looks more like Chris than Chris from the games

heres something i wrote in 10 minutes about why crossovers sometimes piss me off and sometimes dont

what sucks about the sheer amount of companies that are doing really hamfisted IP crossovers is that theyre always doing it for the worst possible reasons. like smash is cool because each character to some degree is translating their own games mechanics into smash bros right. some do it more than others (the dragon quest guy does it wayyy better than say sephiroth but even sephiroth does it wayyy better than joker who essentially doesnt translate anything from personas mechanics) but for the most part you get a little bit of their game in smash. this applies to a larger degree in tekken (at least for the fighting game crossovers) like akuma and geese have entire input strings that are lifted wholesale from their OG games, balance be damned. which is super super cool! video game crossovers are good because theyre combining two sets of complex mechanics into something new. fighting games especially are a great opportunity for mechanics crossover because theyre often 10 times more complex than what the original game has that character doing- look at link in soul calibur 2 for example! that kicks ass! super deep translation of both ocarina of time stuff to a cool ass fighting game! nice!

why i think MOST IP crossovers suck and are a result of video games more than anything is because non-video game crossovers are just that. theyre just a written character, completely removed from the very very careful contexts that they were created in, kind of smushed into a binary set of mechanics or a story that doesnt need them. look at dead by daylight- while i think it tries its best, pinhead wasnt created as a video game character with a set of iconic moves that were intended, first and foremost, to be fun to play with. hes a character in a story with specific details, whose importance and legacy AS a character is the result of the movies, not just pinhead bein pinhead. and so the DBD devs kind of fit a square peg in a round hole- he just does a set of moves with cooldowns in a context that he doesnt fit in whatsoever. its not translating the aesthetic of the hellraiser movies, but just giving a coat of paint to a set of mechanics that only barely have anything to do with the original character. even then i think DBD does it better than most other crossover titles, especially compared to something like fortnite where you can wholesale shove a characters model in without even designing mechanics for that character- because its not a character based game. youre just shooting with a new coat of ip-friendly paint on it and that sucks. but its for kids so i get it. same with cod warzone you just have donnie darko with a gun.

but the WORST part of all this is that it makes business sense 100 percent of the time to include a crossover character in your piece of media. you could either spend 10,000 dollars advertising your new character or 0 dollars advertising a character from a already-beloved multi-million dollar franchise. hell sometimes you get paid for it depending on how popular your game is.

thats what all these new battle royale “metaverse” fuckin games are doing and its what mortal kombat 11 did. mkx got away with the horror crossover because it fit REALLY REALLY well with the mkx aesthetic, which was just overall darker and gorier than anything that came before it. so horror characters just made sense, even if it was still a clumsy translation. in mk11 all the characters are just. fuckin. robo cop. who like pinhead doesnt have any pre-existing mechanics cuz hes a written character nothing designed with gameplay in mind. so they clumsily shove them into some archetype that already existed in the game. because the very existence of that characters movies and what-not are already doing the heavy lifting advertising the game and the character to potential customers.

thats why fortnite is the most insidious of all of these options- its all advertisement, no mechanics. totally uninteresting action figure smacking that only children fall for. and this is all ENTIRELY separate from when theres a “story crossover” or some such shit that never, ever works. that is entirely the result of everyone having video game brains

just no fucking contest man. ayase and terus voices have always been fun to hear bouncing off each other and oh my god they keep dueting and its glorious. in fact i think they sing the most together aside from mayyybe super star spectacle (as opposed to the other songs where the girls exchange lines)? kind of gay. the slow and sensual to fast-paced and bombastic hard pivot in the middle BACK TO slow right at the end is just masterful, first time I heard it it gave me chills and i dance to it every time i hear it from then on. just fantastic in every way.

2. wi(l)d screen baroque

nana daiba go nuts go crazy. correct opinion zone the name ‘revue of killing everyone’ is the best way to translate minagoroshi, annihilation is kind of weaksauce? anyways. i really do love moepiis voice for its range (especially how it can go very deep at the drop of a dime) and i think its used very well here. instrumentals are also super banging. very catchy, very fast, a bop, great singing, what’s not to love? i had a hard time figuring out whether this spot should be taken up by wi(l)d screen or #3 because they were near-equally good but i eventually gave it to this because i think #3 misses some of its charm without the accompanying visuals. it’s like ranking an 80/80 over an 80/100 even though they’re worth the same but something definitely feels Missing from the latter score, if that makes sense.

i screamed irl when i first heard that part ahem anyways. my hater opinion is that im not like a HUGE fan of harukis singing voice, which i feel bad saying even if it doesnt mean i dislike it, just kind of neutral on it. i think the high notes in koi no makyuu were WELL EXECUTED but i just do not PERSONALLY LIKE THEM which is why the song is not ranked that highly for me [people immediately turn away from this post because i have bad taste]. that said i think she really shines in this song, not just because hurr durr cutesy voice doing something creepy is Edgy and Cool but 1) its working with a song where the lyrics aren’t as disconnected as in koi no makyuu, which better shows off how smooth her singing delivery is 2) its bouncing off a deeper, gentler voice like mimorin’s and that makes a big difference imo. like mentioned above it’s ranked below wi(l)d because without the context of the movie the change in tempo feels a bit too disconnected to make sense, unlike in wagamama where it’s fucking seamless. sorry ):

4. Super Star Spectacle

confession. going into my first few listens, i had a very clear divide between the top 3 and bottom 3. like it was just not comparable, there was a huge gap between #3 and #4. but super star spectacle really grew on me the more i listened to it, to the point where there’s a...huge gap between #4 and #5 lol sorry... i’ll get to that.

what really cinched SSS for me were the instruments; i think they’re at some of the best in the entire franchise in this song. i love a horn i love a flute i love a trumpet, and these bitches absolutely SELL karen’s triumphant rebirth in a way that not even starlight (the song) did in the anime. momoyo and mimorin are always a great duo and boy is that a good thing because they sing together a lot lmaoooo. i think it starts maybe a liiiiiiiittle too slow in the beginning to be a tried and true bop but that’s also a no visuals/context problem because when hikari is singing and trying to get karen to wake up in the movie you are laser focused on those emotions. not really the song’s fault but i do have to dock marks

5. Pen : Power : Katana

this is the point where i have to reiterate that i dont dislike any of these insert songs and would gladly listen to them instead of skipping if they come up in a spotify playlist. that said can i say i feel like they somewhat misuse hiichan here? she was absolutely incredible in sekai o hai ni suru made and the star knows because she excels in singing smooth and slow and deep. i think her amazing voice breaks when she tries to sing loud and powerful though, and there are definite like. Yell moments in this song that just made me think, ‘wow i wish they didnt make hiichan belt this’. i think the latter half is much better compared to the former, and moepii is great all throughout ofc, but the song is also kind of a slow start and im not raving about it. i know it wasnt really created to be a bop, though, so i respect that

6. Utsukushii hito idk the rest of the name man. the mayakuro one

gotta start this one off by saying that - and this is coming from someone who never really liked mayakuro until this revue - the line ‘heroes need trials, saints need temptations, i need you’ drives me fucking insane, like completely bonkers. i feel like a wild animal just THINKING about it. that said i think this song is the least interesting as a standalone out of the six overall. aiai’s voice never bothered me before, notably zeus no chuusai song of the summer, but it should be noted that her only song in the original anime was star divine which had maya hikari and karen all shoved into it and they were all shouting a bunch which aiai is good at. listening to her sing a somewhat calmer/slower song here really highlights the stuff i don’t like about her singing voice.

she sounds the best in the song when she’s singing with maya which is i think part because they do work well together and part because mahonee is just that fucking good. the biggest crime utsukushii hito does by far though is calling back to hokori to ogori several times and not making it its own. i think that’s why it docks so much points for me, despite the very, very solid last few seconds of the song which still gives me chills, because for a good few minutes i sit there thinking ‘wow i wish i was listening to hokori to ogori one of the best songs from the original anime’. of course this is all personal interpretation but the callback not only felt tacked on (even when the context of the movie was justifying its placement) but i felt like it detracted from claudine’s presence in the song. this is a song about maya, and how claudine is challenging maya’s views on their relationship as well as maya’s relationship to the stage. it’s imbalanced in a way that feels unneeded - all of the other songs give more or less equal presence to both singers, aside from MEDAL PANIC which is deliberately skewed towards mahiru because hikari has 2 songs in this movie anyways its equality in the context of the movie she so clearly dominates the fight. claudine may not be my favorite character or anything but i feel like she was robbed, even as she got a lot more in the movie than she pretty much has in the entire franchise lol.

about half of the previous paragraph doesn’t factor into utsukushii hito’s rankings because i’m judging solely on the song divorced (heh) from the context, but even in that case it’s relatively unremarkable compared to the other 5. so this is last place for me.

Can you analyse 616!Natasha for us MCU-only fans? How different is she from MCU Nat?

of course!!! i will never turn down an opportunity to talk about nat ever. but i’d say that 616 nat is very, very different from mcu nat, partly because she’s had decades and decades of history compared to mcu nat’s 10 years of undeveloped character. tbh i dont really know where to start but id say that 616 nat is a lot more independent than mcu nat. she starts off as a lone villain, manipulates clint into working with her and then when she decides to leave russia, she ends up with the avengers for a bit and then she finds herself in a relationship with matthew murdock and then on the champions team in california. and she literally does not hesitate to leave if she feels like her independence and agency is being taken from her—which is pretty evident in her relationship/partnership with matthew, because she felt as if he wasn’t seeing her as his equal so she stayed in california when he went back. for mcu nat, all we’ve ever seen of her so far is that she’s been with shield and the avengers, which isn’t like something bad but i really wanted to see her on her own at own point too because she does like working as a solo agent a lot—not because she doesn’t have any friends, she does, but she’s just very efficient when working alone. i was hoping we were going to see that with the black widow movie, where she was working alone and then would find herself linking up with people from her past but the way they decided to do it .... its not good jrbhabsdhja. speaking of the mcu movies, i would say that literally only iron man 2 has a good portrayal of natasha and the other movies are either decent or downright awful. im2 showed a very skilled, efficient natasha which is like ... one of my fave things about her like she’s supposed to literally be the best at what she does and i feel like you dont see that in the other movies (i.e.: wearing a hoodie .. ??? as her disguise ??? in tws .. ??? getting caught on camera ??? its absolutely offensive TO ME that she would ever be that stupid). and while we’re on the topic of natasha’s skillset, i absolutely despise the fact that yelena had to remind natasha that they were killers in that one black widow trailer. it’s genuinely SO stupid because 616 natasha’s skillset is something that she trained so hard for (depending on which version of ur origin story ur looking at, she was the best student that the kgb ever had and in the red room story, she eventually got her way to the top. either way, she’s extremely gifted and hardworking) and she knows that shes a killer and its not something that she shies away from. yes i do understand that this is disney and that they cant be as explicit because of their audience but natasha IS an assassin she DOES kill people and she will gladly do it again! it’s literally one of her first options for when she has to deal with someone even if others dont want it lmao (like in hickmanvengers when jess drew opposed her killing people and she was like hm i dont agree) like it just makes no sense that she would ever forget that she was a killer. also i would say that 616 nat just has a different attitude from mcu nat’s overall. 616 nat is extremely confident, sometimes very mean and has the MOST love for herself. she knows shes hot shit. she also knows that shes done shitty things in the past but it is not something she holds against herself. she knows that she doesnt deserve to die for it and that when she DOES die it’ll be on her own terms which is VERY contrasting to mcu nat, who believes that because of her past as an assassin, she needs to repent n that the only way to do that is through death. u can see that she has very little love for herself and that she relies on the trust of others (i.e.: in tws when she asks steve if he would trust her to save his life) like shes . insecure ?? which isnt smt 616 nat deals with bc she literally doesnt give a single shit abt what other ppl think of her, just what she thinks of herself.

anti LO anon opinions

(1) Hot take: Anyone can make a comic where the characters are different colors and have a lineless style. I feel like because of how popular it got, if you even try to do something with monocolor schemes, LO fans will think you're copying.It's a lot easier to make characters one color and a completely valid way of making art/comics. No one owns a lineless art or monocolors tho.I'd love to see comics that use colors like LO does but in a way that makes more sense.

(2) R.. Rachel knows Demeters a fertility goddess- right??? She knows that there's like a billion fertility goddesses in greek mythology right?!

(3) LO Ouranos' design is just confirming once again Smythe can only think of these gods in a Abrahamic fashion instead of their actual ancient context and society. That's why the Maidens are seen as regressive prudes, why there's such an emphasis on "purity", why men hold more power/status, why Minthe, who is the evil lustful woman compared to the good virginal Persephone, is designed literally like a devil/succubus, why sex outside of marriage/several partners is seen as bad, the list goes on.

(4) So why does Ouranos have 6 eyes in the recent chapter? Does it signify he will have 6 sons (plus 6 daughters, but unlikely the daughters are included) who will eventually overthrow him?

I noticed that both Gaia and Persephone both have hair that sometimes look like leaves, so I guess both Hades and Ouranos have a thing for women who will never "Leaf" them (I'm a language major, sorry for my weird puns)

PS, a friend of mine joked that "if Ouranos has 6 eyeballs, does this mean he also have 6 male reproductive organs? 😏" (And also Aphrodite was born from the Sea foam of Ouranos bits and pieces so...)

(5) Read the latest LO chapter, and they sure did my favorite goddess Demeter dirty by making her an overdramatic laughing stock and a quacky (whacky) mother to boot.

I think it's very disrespectful to turn a mythological wonderful loving mother who has a very healthy mother-daughter relationship with her children (Persephone) and a very dedicated and responsible Godess who is in charge of the four seasons be reduced to a laughingstock and a boss whose employees throw a party/sleaze around when she's not at work.

(6) Obviously Demeter and co. are being drawn this way in preparation for everyone to deal with Henson Co. adapting it. they only deal with childish designs like that (barring the gross puppets they like to do too. prepare LO to be full of fart and barf jokes) and it'll be much easier for them to design if the comic does the same (this is sarcasm btw. It's more likely RS has just gotten lazy and know they could spit on paper and the fandom will eat it up. why put effort into your work, right?)

(7) The only unique design LO ever does is random splotches of color, white lines for scars, pointy ears, and extra eyes, and that's at the absolute most. You could say Punderworld also suffers some same faces (especially the women) but you can also tell who is who by their outfits, props, and variations in features.

(8) This is a minor complaint but LO Hecate's design is so ugly 😭she looks like an edgy moodboard take on Edna Mode. She's supposed to be this badass witch yet looks just as boringly business as everyone else. Also wasn't she not involved with Hades until after Persephone is married? Wasn't she Persephone's companion first in myth? Why is she Hades' best friend instead and only interacted with Persephone for a study abroad semester?

(9) God, the pilot line in LO is so stupid. Are they telling us fertility goddesses are the only source of power to try and be like HAHA SEE PERSEPHONE DOESNT NEED HADES! HE NEEDS HER! Because 1) that means it’s setting up HADES to take over olympus/overthrow Zeus which is so!!! Ugh!!! Why are you messing with literal religion now?! Hades is a shit king in the underworld but she seems to want him as the head one too?! But also 2) shouldnt DEMETER be the most powerful and desired godess then? Seeing as she’s literally the fertility godess?? Why did Smythe literally skip over her to make Persephone more special?

Metis was included despite no fertility traits but the literal goddess who controls nature and the earth ISNT? How does that work?! Demeter literally made Persephone all by herself in comic but shes not in this special lineup? Not to mention it once again is making the women props for men and their games! Cant we just read a stupid romance without it being a shallow political game too?

Persephone is being used as a literal political chip and whoever “gets” her is now, essentially, holding the nuclear codes and can overthrow whoever they want.  we know it’ll be Hades, so he’s not only getting a super fertile wife to give him babies, he’s also getting a wife who never questions him, who does whatever he wants, and is now his tool to literally rule everything if he wants, which who knows, he might do so poor Hera is free of her loveless marriage because he’s just SO caring like that. Also, Apollo never wanted to overthrow Zeus?! Athena, Hera, and Poseidon did! 

Does she know this is a romance comic and the jumping between stupid romance and earth-ending drama does not mesh well? God I’m mad. This is so stupid. The damn Disney movie showed more respect than this.
