Bac(terra) In(cognita)
Usually I am not an OC person, but I do have these guys, which are near and dear to my heart. I've been working on them since 2015-16-ish, and, while initially it all started as an imagined reboot for a super obscure animated mini-series from 2000's, by now the whole thing evolved into an entirely independent project of big personal importance. I've been cagey about them mostly because I really want to make something significant out of them, maybe like a comic or a children's book, all with a major focus on edutainment, but have been stuck on the topic for years.
The overall premise goes as follows: one day, an empty Petri dish rolled under the sink in a microbio lab, never to be found again by any human working there. However, it quickly became a home to a vibrant community of all sorts of microorganisms, who, as it turns out, are not that different from the humankind. They even have schools!
Main cast:
Eccoli (based on E. coli): he's the protagonist. A smart, but thouroughly burned out kid who skips classes to go eavesdropping on the lessons taking place in a rival school. This is how he stumbles upon the other three guys and reluctantly befriends them. He's very anxious and secretive by nature, but blossoms whenever he gets a chance to talk about his special interest in viruses. Also, being a bacteria, he is by far the tiniest of the main quartet - yes, not all microorganisms are equally small.
Penny Cilly (based on the penicillium mold): a diligent and energetic girl with a short temper and an over-achiever.mindset. May not be able to grasp some topics from the get-go, but makes up for it with lots and lots of hard work. Her family wants her to make a career in antibiotic production, but she's more interested in looking for the alternatives, as antibiotic resistance is on the rise.
Muchor (based on the mucor mold): despite being Penny's childhood friend, he couldn't be more different from her. A born genius, he never struggles in class, grasping even the most complex of concepts on the fly, but having to sit down and do homework will make him crumble. His intellectual prowess also led him to developing a self-centered and condescending attitude, but under all that he's actually a pretty chill and pleasant guy. Has a knack for dangerous experiments and stupid pranks.
Ameeba (based on amoebas): the token nerd of the group. Shy and timid, but very observant and analytical - she definitely rivals even Muchor in that regard, which he openly admits. She has a wide range of interests, but mostly they revolve around art, anime and fashion. She has a very eclectic taste and changes outfits constantly. Also, she can shapeshift! Usually it's confined to her hair, but changing the whole body is definitely possible. It's a very handy ability, as amoebas are significantly larger than most microorganisms (some are even visible with the naked eye), and not many places in Ameeba's life accomodate for that.
Here are the size comparisons (the left one is super old and has an outdated Ameeba design, but it's the best that I have):
Here are their humanizations:
And here's their classroom:
Side characters:
Vol'ka (based on the volvox algae): he's a little younger than the main cast and goes to a different school, but often gets himself involved in their shenanigans. Just as smart as everyone on the team, but his main love is math, maybe also chemistry, while the protags mostly gravitate towards biology. Also, he's the fabled single mom teenager boy: every little cell that makes up his poofy hair is actually one of his little sisters, and he has no choice but to babysit them.
The teachers! The one on the left is Mrs. Inforia (based on Paramecium caudatum), who teaches the main gang and is niceys; the one on the right is Ms. Aurora (based on Staphylococcus aureus), who is Eccoli's teacher and is horrible. Honestly, they're both kind of placeholder-ish, I definitely need to work on the adults of this setting more.
Eulene (based on the euglenas, who are... technically not algae? It's complicated): she's also a teacher working part-time at both Vol'ka's school and the main school, but she's significantly younger than the other two teachers - so much so that she was only in her senior year when Ameeba, Penny and Muchor started middle school. So she's in that awkward position of both being their close friend, but also an authority. Honestly, I love this dymanic, it's very true to some of my experiences.

Note: this is the first time I write anything in english so take it more like an idea or whatever. I have no respect for this language, but correct me when I'm wrong, please.
I had this "OC" in my mind for years but I can't recall her name, so you can imagine this is you, you're narrating this story, past tense and present might be a little all over the place, ehe.
I always imagined this like a series of mini comics because it contains some things from Dabi's past like before being Dabi the villain but after the fire that "killed him", I'm just not patient or talented enough to draw all that.
+4000 words.
Warning: it may be boring, you may read some dumb teen behaviour, soft +18 content, slow burn, and some Bella Swan vibes.
Nothing more to say, I hope somebody likes it.
*~~~*~~~*~~~*
I met Dabi when I was barely a teenager; too young, too naive, but also too mad at my parents so I took every chance to be with people I shouldn't be around and that's exactly how I met him. He had a fire quirk that harms his body so he looked like shit, he wasnât exactly handsome but he was light-hearted.
I noticed he dyed his hair black and I started to help him with it, also helped him cure his skin when he over used his quirk. I donât know how or when but we became closer.
There was just... something in his eyes. Never seen eyes that color blue. Anybody would think he was a bad influence but it was the other way round. Dabi was such a nice guy, always telling me to go home, go to school, helping me with anything I needed and all I needed was him âwith meâ all the time.
âI like youâ he said, âyouâre kind and pretty, also youâre rich, why do you hang around these losers?â
âI like youâ I said. I could never forget the smile on his face.
He told me about his past and I thought his future was us, together. We were young, those were the days when you think you know everything but youâre just naĂŻve, too naĂŻve. We would lay down in the grass and tangle up, I usually bring food and beverages for everyone, heâd put his arm around my shoulders and tell everyone not to mess with me, he made me feel special, he made me feel loved and mature.
We invented a signal and we started to meet at midnight, it was easy because I had a quirk that allowed me to teleport. Wherever he strayed, I followed and I wouldâve begged for him to hold my hand and never let go.
However, time passed and he and his friends got in big trouble. I knew they were thieves, and then they became murderers and had to take different paths.
âYou canât hide me alone, are you fucked in the head?!â Dabi yelled at me when we had our first big fight because of that. âWe need to go and you canât come with us, your parents will get us caught for kidnapping, this is my last word. You stay, weâll meet again someday.â
We lost contact before I graduated; he simply disappeared and left me with a broken heart.
I cried my eyes out for a month, but a girl gotta be tough and smart and independent. I moved out of my parents house when I finished high school, thanks to my dad, he rented a whole apartment near college and that was probably the first time in a long time I was grateful to have a wealthy family.
I just had to study and work for the family business and life would be sweet, but then one day I saw him. He walked by the Coffee Shop I used to go. How could I ever forget him? He wasn't exactly my first love but definitely one true love. My heart stopped for a second and then raced like crazy, I got up and out of the place running.
"DABI" I yelled but he kept walking, "Dabi, stop!" He walked around the corner of a dark alley, so I stopped, I doubted:
Should I follow or should I let him go for good? It's been a couple of years, he probably has someone new now, I thought.
Then I heard him:
"It's been a long time" he said from the shadows of that alley, his voice changed a bit, matured, "I was convinced you forgot about me. I missed you"
A tear shed from my left eye when I saw his face, his burned skin looked worse than before.
"What an asshole" I said and ran to his arms, hugged him hard enough for him to moan, "I thought I'd never see you again."
I punched his chest.
"You dumbass, I hate you. I hate you! I should hate you but I'm just mad at you and I just wanna cry and I... I..." words escaped from my mind for a moment, "do you want a coffee or anything?"
He laughed and hugged me gently.
"I'm sorry. I missed you", he said.
For what it felt like an eternity, that was all that he could say. I was confused and happy at the same time, he walked with me to my place, looked up at the building and said something about being too far from his place, he didn't tell me where his place was or what he's been doing. We made a deal to meet at the coffee shop every Wednesday and for a few months that was okay.
âI still like youâ he confessed randomly.
âI like you tooâ
He never told me what he does for a living, but I could imagine it. I felt like the more that he said, the less that I knew about his life and I was okay with that as long as he would stay around.
One day, he didn't show up. The next Wednesday, he came with an excuse about a job Iâm sure he made up to keep me happy, to keep me safe.
"Dabi, why don't you come live with me?" I asked one time. His big blue eyes were wide open and I was sure he was gonna say no, so I insisted:
"I don't have a lot of free time lately, this is my senior year and I need to focus but I still want you around, come live with me and I'll see you every night, you don't have to worry about your job, you know you can live rent-free and..."
"No. Stop. No."
"Just come see the apartment, please.â I insisted, I didnât want to let him go again, âIt's big enough I swear and we can..."
"Please, stop. I have pride. I'm still a man."
He talked about how different we were, but I knew it wasn't true, he said maybe if I was less dependent of my parents we could work this out, but I knew that was just an excuse. It took me a couple of months but I made him come into my apartment.
"I just need to pick something real quick, come with me" I said and it wasn't all lie, I needed something it just wouldn't be quick.
He looked around the living room, I went to my bedroom to pick some books and when I walked out, he was looking out the window.
"You have a nice view", he said. I could see his blue eyes reflexing on the windowâs glass.
"I know"
I walked to him and hugged him.
"I missed being this close in private.â I whispered.
âThe last time we were fifteen", he concurred.
He didn't grow any taller since then, I put my head on his shoulder and felt a shiver. His hands went from my hair down to my shoulders, then down to my back until he touched my ass cheeks. I closed my eyes and left a sigh out.
"You've changed", he whispered, I looked at his face and he had that smile, I'd never forget the smile he had the first time I saw him, or the first time that we had sex.
"We were just kids back then, pretending to be adults"
"I don't regret that" he kissed me slowly.
"Me neither"
He took my clothes off clumsily and I led us to the couch, I could tell he didn't have anything with anybody else and I was so relief about it. I took his jacket off and went straight to his pants; he already had an erection like he was craving for it all this time.
"No more games" he said "let's go to your room"
I took his hand and we went to bed, I laid down and he kissed and touched me viciously, then I remembered I didn't have a condom and pushed him away.
"Do you have...?"
"No" he said, he knew what I meant.
"Damn it!" I cursed; we were already there like that. "I could go..."
"No, don't worry. You had to pick something anyway; we'll do it any other day"
My heart raced. I wanted to take him immediately when he said that, but I just kissed him and made him promise he'd come back. And he did. Over and over.
Until he was practically living there with me. I had him just where I wanted and then, one day, my mother showed up.
"You have to finish this relationship before other people find out. You can't live like this, we raised you better than that. You better not get pregnant or I'll drag you to an abortion clinic myself."
Good thing: that day Dabi wasn't around. Time passed and he was more and more time somewhere far away; I had the feeling he would disappear again, so I had to talk it out but I didnât know how, I thought he would take it as a sign to completely disappear.
"You could leave a note, you know, or send me a text. Tell me when you're leaving, for how long... I'll graduate soon, I'm busy too but at least I tell you when I'm coming home late."
"I think I can't keep living here" he said "I've been trying to protect you from the things I do, but I think it's catching up. I can't risk you, I can't lose you"
I felt my blood pressure go low.
"So you're leaving me... again"
He did not say anything.
We both knew this day would come around. I just wanted to keep my delusional idea that we would work things out. Run away together, somewhere far from Japan. I even suggested Spanish lessons one night.
"I love you" he whispered in my ear when he hugged me "and I'll find you when I'm done"
"Done with what?"
He kissed me and walked to the door.
"Touya, done with what?!"
I only called him by his real name when I was angry and he knew. His last gaze before closing the door was so sad but I was at the edge of going mad.
"STUPID TODOROKI!"
I threw my phone across the living room. I screamed and kicked the sofa, my tears ricochet and I tried to stop them with my hands but couldnât; and then I just went to my room and tried to retain it all back inside.
I cried, until my face was red and swollen and couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I looked like a frog whenever I cry this much so I did't get out of bed for a whole day.
I couldn't possibly imagine what he was doing; but every time there was a fire, anything related to blue flames I knew it was him and I kinda knew why. I knew everything about his family, about his father.
All Might retired, so Dabi's father was #1 Hero now. It must have messed with his brain and I wished I could have helped him, but you cannot help someone that doesn't want to be saved.
I did my best to move on. I graduated and started to work at my father's company. I realized Dabi was right about me: I was my fatherâs daughter and I couldnât live without his protection; but there was nothing wrong about it, now that I was older, I realized I was lucky for it. I wished he had my luck.
Left the apartment and moved to a different city, my mom was too excited about that, she visited me the first chance she had.
"You know whose hero's agency is really near?" She asked me, "Hawksâ agency, the #2 hero!" She was suspiciously excited about it, "he's so young but so talented and handsome! You know, I could set..."
"Mother, leave"
"What?"
"You do not get to do this, you do not get to set me a blind dates, I don't want you to do that and I don't want you here. I moved so I didn't have to have you around, don't visit me unannounced anymore, please, now leave"
"You ungrateful piece of shit" she started saying something but I wasnât gonna let her talk:
"Yeah, I know, I know, take your things now and leave"
She started an argument so I just walked to my bedroom and closed the door lock. I assumed she would get tired of talking to the door and leave. I took a sleeping pill; I loved those pills. Then the most unimaginable thing happened when I woke up, there was a chaos outside, too much noise and heat and apparently, there was two heroes fighting a monster, a nomu.
I went inside to check the news, the battle seemed lost but Endeavor managed to win. I fucking hated that guy, but damn he was strong⌠and so was his son.
I missed Dabi. I kept sending text messages for a while after he left me and he never replied so I stopped, but at that moment I felt the urge to try again.
âDid you watch the news?â I asked.
âWhatâs your new address?â
âAre you serious, you fucking dork?" I texted back.
"I'll find you, I'm pretty near" he replied. I blushed a little, I felt excited to see him again.
"You better come with a bouquet, coffee and the most dramatic apology you can think of"
âLMAOâ, was his last text.
Almost a week later, a bouquet appeared at my entrance.
Holy shit, I thought. There was a note: "I miss you, Iâll be back soon"
Later, after work, I got a free coffee.
"A guy paid for it earlier, he said he knew you, I hope it's okay" said the girl at the counter.
"He had blue eyes and looked like a crispy chip?"
"Mmm, yes" she stuttered.
"It's good, thank you"
âYouâre welcome, come back soon!â She sighed in relief.
Then, when I got home the door was open and it made me so angry.
"If this is the best apology you can imagine, you're the biggest asshole...!"
However, there was no one inside. I looked around the house, he wasn't there. I felt insecure so I called a friend, I stayed at her apartment that night and she tried to convince me to call the police.
I said I would, but I called him instead.
He answered.
"Today at my house, was it you?"
"What?" He sounded confuse.
"The door was open but there was no one inside"
"I sent you flowers and coffee but I didn't think of any way to apologize enough to you. I didn't go to your house and I won't go until you let me"
"Okay⌠I think I'll call the police then, donât come near"
"Good. Take care."
âIâŚâ
Silence. I didnât know what to say, I didnât expect him to pick up the phone in the first place. He whispered my name:
âThank you for loving me this whole timeâ he said and hung up.
I felt like stupid for not saying anything. I didnât even said that I loved him, never said it but actions speak for themselves and I couldnât deny it.
After calling the police, some heroes would walk by my house every damn day; my father visited to make sure they did, my mother was too offended to come with him.
Turned out it was just a robbery case.
âYour mom and I talked about what happened between you two and I have to keep her happy, honeyâ, he stated âthey donât say âhappy wife, happy lifeâ for nothing, I know she hasnât been the best to you, but she triesâ
âShe treats me like shit, always haveâ
âDonât say thatâ he sighed. âLetâs make a deal: I will set you a couple of dates just to calm her down and you choose the type of man you want to go to dates with, uh?â
I smiled viciously.
âNo criminals!â he immediately said âdonât put yourself in danger just to get to your motherâs nerves, think about me too. There must be some nice guys youâd like to meet.â
âWhat if I want to date a woman?â
âFine by me, I like woman tooâ
âI donât like woman that way, I just wanted to know if I could.â
He laughed and looked at the time.
âYour mom told me about that hero, Hawks, I met him and heâs not very heroic actually, heâs just lucky he has a useful quirk, I think youâd like himâ
âYouâre pushing meâ
âIâm not. Letâs set this now, youâll have two dates, one with that hero prick and one with whoever you want, some college colleague preferablyâ
âOkay, fine, but the second date will be a woman.â
Mother always got what she wanted.
âExcellent, my dear! Send me her profile when you pick one, Iâll set the time and date, you go wherever you want and keep me updated. I gotta go nowâ
I chose a friend from college my mother never seemed to approve. As soon as I made my choice, my dad did his part.
The day I met Keigo it was rainy, he asked me if I wanted to cancel but I didnât, I liked rain when itâs calm and I wanted to finish my duty as soon as possible. We went for coffee, watched a movie and then to a nice but not too elegant restaurant for dinner.
When I told him I had no intentions to date him, he told me he had no excuse to reject this date since he took a break from his heroâs agency for personal reasons; he seemed nice, careless and turned out to be easy-going, but he wasnât Dabi.
I swore I could go home by myself but he insisted and when we were arriving, he put his arms around me.
âDonât be scaredâ he said and took fly with me. I teleported back to the ground without thinking and shouted at him:
âWhat the fuck were you thinking?! What were you trying to do to me, you psycho?!â
He looked down at me and I felt a hand on my shoulder.
âYouâre not supposed to use your quirk whenever you want, youâre not a professional hero nor a villain like meâ Dabi was by my side and his eyes locked to Keigoâs. He came down with his hands exposed.
âI sensed you following me, I didnât think you two knew each otherâ Keigo looked careful now.
âWeâre like childhood friendsâ Dabi said, âI was curious why would someone like her hang around a hero like youâ
âIt was my momâs ideaâ I said, âDad intervened, long story short, I have to go to blind dates now, itâs none of your businessâ I looked at Keigo: ânow I am curious why youâre not trying to catch himâ
âI told you Iâm off dutyâ
âSureâ
Something was off, I knew but I couldnât tell. Dabi always kept me far enough and safe from his business. These two knew each other, but I couldnât tell if Dabi was an informant or it was the other way round.
âIâll take her home nowâ Dabi said.
âWhat kind of man would let his date go home with another man?â Keigo smiled.
I felt Dabiâs hand get warmer so I took it off my shoulder.
âI told you I could go home by myself, so Iâm leaving. You two can catch up now, it seems like you have something to talk aboutâ
âYouâre wrongâ Dabi said, âYou and I have a lot to catch upâ
I looked him in the eyes, it cut deep to know him right to the bone. He came back and heâd go away soon.
âI know that itâs over, Dabi, I donât need your closureâ I said firmly and walked away. It hurted more than I expected, I wasnât serious, just wanted to mislead Hawks.
The rain came pouring down the closer I got home, it helped me conceal my stupid tears. That night I slept on the couch, I kinda expected Dabi to come but he did not.
Keigo, on the other hand, appeared at my door early in the morning with a nice bouquet.
âYou may think Iâm not serious,â he said âbut I found you amusingâ
He accompanied me on the way to work, behave nicely, but I suspected of his true intentions.
âDabi was a part of a rebel phase when I was younger,â I admitted, he didnât say anything, neither pretended he didnât wanna know, âhe comes and goes, he may think that Iâm bulletproof but Iâm notâ
âWith a quirk like yours, you could easily avoid a bulletâ he tried to joke around but I didnât let it slide.
âIâm conscious that he sees what he does to me, he knows exactly how to ruin a perfect day and Iâm sick and tired of that attitude, so whatever youâre trying to do here, end it right nowâ
His smirk faded.
âLast night you said it was over, but I see itâs not. I wonât annoy you anymoreâ
His phone ringed, we said goodbye and he left me alone. I knew he just wanted to know if I was involved in anything Dabi was.
Life turned boring for a while and that was okay, but myhouse started to feel too big for me alone. I was considering to move to an apartment or bring a girl friend to live with me when I looked out the window and saw a letter outside the mailbox; when I went out to pick it, looked around but didnât see anybody.
I knew it was his.
I knew it was a goodbye letter, I had to let him go.
âI wonât make assumptions why you moved to a different city but I think itâs cause of me. I swear I gave my blood, sweat and if I could cry Iâd give my tears to protect you from the things that I do but it wasnât enough, I could never give you peaceâ, he wrote.
âDeep down I hoped I would never lose you, eventually I did. Iâm not your problem anymore. I canât just show up at your front door and expect you to let me in, but I want to do it anyway.
Now that we donât talk, I just wanted you to know I wish I was a better man for you.â
Lastly, he wrote:
âIâm sorry that I hurted you, itâs not your fault.â
I never felt so attacked by a piece of paper in my life. I knew I was better alone than needing a man like him, but the heart wants what it wants. Wishing he was a better man wasnât an option, I loved him for being the man he was, the fact that he didnât see it my way was painful.
All this time I thought he could see right through me, now I wonder what was he seeing this whole time.
I called him but he didnât pick up the phone, so I started to write a text message when I heard the door ring bell and he was there standing at my door.
âThis is the last timeâ he said, âI swear this is the last timeâ
He put his arms around me, he was warm and had that suspicious smell like he over used his quirk.
âYouâre an assholeâ I mumbled.
âI knowâ
âIâm tired of thisâ
âI knowâ
âI donât wanna keep secrets just to keep youâ
âYou wonât have toâ
I looked at his face, surprised.
âWhat do you mean?â
âLetâs go inside, we have a lot to talk aboutâ he walked in.
For the first time, he opened up about everything, I listened carefully; I got worried, even cried a little. I suggested again that we could run away together but he didnât want to, he was determined to fulfil his revenge against Endeavor even if it killed him in the process.
It made me want to die. I took a deep breath.
âYou canât come here and expect me to accept that youâre willing to die just to expose your fatherâs shit to everyone in Japanâ he opened his mouth but I didnât let him talk, âyou have to choose right now, Touya, you leave now or you stay with me. You canât just ask a person that loves you to sit and watch you get killed, youâll have to kill me just the sameâ
Dabi hugged me gently, kissed me softly.
âNever going to happenâ
My heart ached. I knew heâd leave me in the morning, but all I could think about was that I wished I could go back in time and save Touya from that fire. If anybody could go back in time and save him, knowing what I know, even if it meant we wouldnât meet or be together⌠thatâd be okay.
âDabi, Iâm sorry I didnât meet you beforeâ
He looked confused.
âI think we never stood a chance, did we? Wanna come to bed?â I asked and he smiled.
âYeah, ready for it?â
I laughed and took his hand, led him to the bedroom, took his jacket off and appreciated his burned arms for a moment. I touched his burned lip with the tip of my finger.
âI love youâ he said.
âJust not enough to stayâ
âIâŚâ
I shushed him. Nothing he could say would eased the pain I was feeling that night. I hugged him, kissed him and whispered in his ear:
âI love you too. Now show me your love with actions instead of wordsâ

Mini Fanfic #1149: First Ever Pocky Game Attempt (King of Fighters)
3:54 p.m. K and Kula's Apartment..........
Leona: (Looks Down a Small Box of Different Color Coded Sticks Shingo's Holding in his Hand) So these are the Pocky Sticks you've been telling me about, Shingo-Kun?
Shingo: (Happily Nodded) Yep!~ One of Japan's finest snack treats with three different flavors. I....didn't know which one of these in particular you would like, so I picked the box with the most variety.
Leona: I see. (Picks up One of the Sticks Out of Box Before Examining it a Bit Closer) And the challenge states that I eat one end of the stick while you eat on the other simultaneously?
Shingo: (Nodded Some More) Yep-Yep! It's pretty simple really. Whoever's mouth comes off the Pocky or gets to the middle first loses. And if.....(Starts Blushing While Rubbing the Back of his Head Back and Forth) we reach to point of the both of us kissing, it'll be automatic tie.
Leona: (Snickrs a Bit) What's with the flustered face for, darling?~ You do know we've kissed many times before, right?
Shingo: Yeah, but this is the first time we're gonna do the Pocky Challenge, as an official couple! (Starts Twiddling his Fingers a Bit) I wanted it to be a little special....or worth your time at least, you know?
Leona: (Heart Begins to Melt in Genuine Happiness) Your sweetness alone is worth every bit of my time being spent.
Shingo: (Smiles Back) Yours too~ Now let's get started.
Leona: (Nodded To his Commend) Right! Shall we do this on the count of three?
Shingo: Yeah-yeah. (Starts Leaning a Little Closer to his End of the Stick) One......
Leona: Two..........
Shingo/Leona: Thr-
Before either side could even begin the challenge, Kula suddenly jumps up in the middle out of nowhere and takes a single, huge bite of the pocky completely, leaving the couple. In question flabbergasted.
Kula: (Gushes Happily on the Pocky She's Eating as She Slowly Floats Down at Towards her Seat) Mmm it's so delicious, i love it!~
Shingo: (Comically Glares at his Blue Haired Friend) What the heck, Kula!?
Leona: (Gives Kula an Older Sisterly Glare on her Face) What did we say about eating someone else's snacks without asking first?
Kula: (Clasps her Hands Together While Putting on a Apologetic Look on her Face) I'm sorry!~ K was telling me about what pockies looks like that I couldn't help but to taste one for myself.
Leona: (Pinches the Bridge of her Nose While Groaning in Annoyance) Of course K has something to do with nonsense....
?: To be fair.....
The trio turns to see K munching on one of the pockies while holding a box of them in his hand.
K: She did asked me about them beforehand. (Quickly Raises his Hand at Shingo, Abruptly Sopping Him From Yelling Out his Name) And before start blowing up a casket, I only wanted to taste one for myself and so far.....(Continues Munch While Nodding in Approval) Mm. These aren't half bad.
Shingo: (Takes a Very Deep Breath Before Gritting his Teeth, Trying his Hardest Not to Blow an Actual Casket) Well, K', if you REALLY wanted to.know what they tasted like, then why haven't you asked me to buy you a box WHILE I was at the store at the time?
K': Phone was charging.
Leona: (Raises an Eyebrow, Unconvinced) Really? And what was stopping you from texting him while it was charging.
K': (Shrugs) Thought never occurred at the time, I dunno.
Shingo scrunches his hands in anger as he tries to approaches K', only to be stopped by Leona when she place her hand onto his shoulder and shakes her head at him, calming him down instantly as he sits back down in his seat and lets out a sigh of pure defeat.
Shingo: Glad you enjoyed the Pocky, K'. Truly.
K': Thanks, but I rather saved my appetite for our movie night coming up. (Turns to Kula While Lifting The Box Up a Little) Want the rest these, Kula?
Kula: (Let's Out a Gasps Before Turning to Shingo and Leona) Can I really have rest of them?
Shingo: (Smiles Sheepishly at Kula) Sure.
Leona: (Smiles as Well) Knock yourself our, Kula.
Kula: (Let's Out a Happy Squeal Before Hugging the Couple) Thank you, thank you, thank you so much!~
Kula rushes over to K' as he gives her the rest of the pocky sticks for her to eat.
K': If you lovebirds need me, I'll be in the kitchen seeing if Bogard got the pizzas yet. (Makes his Way to Kitchen With a Pocky Munching Kula Following Behind) I'm starving.
Shingo/Leona: 'Kay.
Shingo: ('Sighs Heavily') I love these two, but they can be a real headache sometimes......
Leona: Kula isn't too difficult to deal with at times. (Rolls her Eyes) Which is more than I can say for K' oddly enough......
Shingo: Tell me about it. Sorry that our first ever Pocky Challenge had to end like that. If I've known that would happen sooner, I would've brought two boxes instead of just one.
Leona: (Gives her Boyfriend a Reassuring Smile) That's quite alright, Shingo-Kun, I'm not opposed to trying again next year. Although, I do believe there's an alternative we could both do while making up for lost times. (Pulls Out a a Lipstick From her Pocket)
Shingo: (Eyes Widened a Bit in Genuine Surprise) Wait, timeout. You actually wore makeup before, Leona-san? I never even noticed.
Leona: I usually wear a few on some occasions. (Carefully Puts Lipstick onto her Lips) Even then, I wouldn't say I was ever completely fond of them to begin with.
Shingo: (Starts Blushing a Bit) Oh, well....I-I think you look amazing, with and without 'em on, ypu know?
Leona: (Smiles Softly) Why, thank you~ It means so much to hear you say that. (Smile Turns into a Seductive Smirk) As reward for your undying kindness, allow me to give you the loving and comfort you very much deserve, dar~ling-
Shingo: (Quickly Sticks his Hand Put Before Getting Up From his Seat) Wait! Before we start doing ANYTHING, let me do some stretches first, i-if ypu don't mind of course
Lrona: Not at all. Stretches can be beneficial for one's body in the long run.
Shingo: (Starts Stretching his Arms.....) Right? (.....Then his Back.....) It's super important! (.....Then Squats Down and Stretch Both his Legs Out) Helps you get more flexible resilient for years down the road with no strings attached. (Gets Back Up on his Feet)
Leona: How are you feeling right now?
Shingo: (Place his Hands onto Both his Hips With a Proud Smile on his Face) ('Whew') I feel like I'm falling a bit behind from my stretching routines there, but other than that, I'm feeling pretty good for the most part. Ready whenever you are-
Leona immediately pulls Shingo in a very loving kissing on the lips before pulling away for a second, leaving her boyfriend love struck in complete awe.
Shingo: W-W-Wow......That....might be our best kiss yet.......
Leona: (Taking a Bit if a Breather) Y-Yeah......I-I think so too.....But we are NOT done yet, mister~
Shingo: Yeah? Well....G-Give me your best shot, ma'am! No holding back!~
Leona: Gladly~ (Resumes Back to Making Out with her Boyfriend on the Sofa)
K': Oi, lovebirds! Rock says he'll be here in a few minutes with the pizza. (Walks Back Into the Living Room) I even convinced him to buy you two a new pack of Poc-
K' looks down to see Leona kissing all over a lovestruckend Shingo Yabuki's face before letting out his signature sigh.
K': (This is a very unsurprising turn of events and icky one nonetheless. (Shrugs) Eh. I'll let 'em be for now. It's the least I can do for ruining their little game.)
K walks back to the kitchen, leaving the couple alone in their session without either of them even noticing their friend's presence in the first place.
Happy (Yet Another) Belated Pocky Day, Everyone!~

Goose's Promo Parade begins shortly, Exquisite Beans.
But Iâm going to take a moment to appreciate a few people who have made my experience on this blog wonderful â¤ď¸
@stxrlxrds
AAAAAAAAA Iâm so glad you followed me back ;w; do you know I had a little mini panicfest when I was originally about to follow? I was petrified you wouldnât want to interact. All your muses are fantastic, but I wonât lie, Quill has a special place in my heart with how he set off every alarm and claimed that was his plan all along.
You are a fantastic bean, and I know good things are coming your way~
@benevolentgodloki
When I saw your username, I couldnât believe you were the same Loki I admired for years when I wrote Steve Rogers. XD I never had the nerve then to approach, and I am super thankful with Carol I was a tad braver. Your Loki is spot on, and you are the sweetest of beans.
@definitelynotaraccoon
Yâknow I never knew how Carol would interact with Rocket, I never read the comics. So I had no idea what to expect other than big guns and sarcasm XD. Approaching you and your muse was incredibly easy and our thread is so much fun. I was and still am ecstatic that youâve returned to the rpc.
You capture Rocket perfectly, and I canât wait for our muses to have more adventures. C:
@labwebs
Carol will protect Peter 1 to the end of her days, fact. He is the sweetest, and gave her his Disney+ account to binge (which she 100% does, and probably shares it with the Guardians on movie night, letâs not lie).
Peter 3 is a fun companion to have on a spaceship, especially when he jumped up on the ceiling and Carol just sort of⌠stared.
Youâre an amazing person to talk to, and I really enjoy reading your headcanons and thoughts that pop up on dash. Your writing is top notch and your characterisation on both muses is wonderful.
@girlofsteel
Loveliest bean, youâre sweet, kind, and patient. I adore your writing and your rendition, Kara is mwuah *chefâs kiss* Actually all your muses are perfecto, but Kara is this wonderful ray of sunshine that Carol canât get enough of.
Also Carol has a crush, but can you blame her? Â
@normaltothemax
MOON GOONS. Theyâre all precious. Does Carol have a favourite? Yes. Is it Jake? Also Yes. Will she ever tell him that? Maybe.
All your characters are fascinating and well written, even though I donât interact with them, I do lurk and read <3 Youâre an amazing human being, and a lot of fun to talk to and plot with.
@recklesshybrid
You came out swinging my friend, with your kindness and excitement. :D I was honestly surprised when you sent me a message so quickly after we followed one another. Youâre lovely and your enthusiasm is a blessing <3
Your Quill is wonderful, fun, and well written. I look forward to the adventures that our muses will go on >:3 perhaps after he finds a way to getâŚyou know⌠unarrested. XD
Also, you should know that Quill is never getting his jacket back, it belongs to Carol now. >w>
@rcdlcdger
Lovely bean, did you know I have not once spelt your url correctly on the first try? xD Honestly, it took me three times just now. You are super sweet and kind, never change! Youâre perfect, and Iâm so thankful we get to write together and chat. :3 I hope soon when our schedules line up we can add gaming to the list.
You write a number of muses, but Nat is my favourite. I adore the sass she gives to Carol, and though Carol complains, she loves Nat and her attitude as well. Captain Adorable will always be there for her spy.Â
#// suffer and endure my admiration#// yall are amazing <3#â // species: flerken (positivity goose)

Marvel Watch: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023)
Watched:Â 05/21/2023
Format:Â Theater!
Viewing:Â First
Director:Â James Gunn
On Friday night I watched the mostly panned Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania, and on Saturday spent an ungodly amount of time discussing the film with Danny for the Superheroes Every Day podcast. Spoiler: it wasn't my favorite movie. And so it was that here, deep in Marvel Phase 5, that I finally saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (2023). Â
You'd have to listen to the podcast and read between the lines on other posts to know how I feel about Marvel these days. It's an affection, but one that knows where we're at in the scheme of creation and the realization that what always worked will not always work, and that they're now on to properties that have always struggled within the Marvel portfolio, while still not dishing up a Fantastic Four movie that we all know is coming.
As has been largely agreed upon, James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy solidified the lessons of Iron Man (and to a lesser extent, Thor) and re-positioned how Marvel designed its films into action-comedies with heart. GotG somehow, against all odds, managed to make you care about a tree with one line of dialog, an asshole space-raccoon, a manchild with knives, a mass-murderer, and a slacker with delusions of grandeur. Plus a redneck pirate! The heart part was a bit surprising as we watched our leads kill a ship full of pirates, etc... Not the usual side of superheroes.
Bit, dammit, if I wasn't weepy at the end when Groot did his thing. And in the second one when we all worked through whatever we call found family and family. And who didn't like the Christmas special?
When I was 12 and getting into comics (circa 1987), I picked up a bundled four-pack of the 1986 Rocket Raccoon mini-series from a spinner rack at my local comic shop (and still my shop!), Austin Books and Comics. I was wildly enthusiastic about what I read, but also understood - apparently this series was not popular and I was going to have to love Rocket alone. Â
In truth, Rocket was deeply changed by the time he got to the GotG films. In the original series he was a gold-hearted law-man in an insane world (literally), with an otter girlfriend and a Walrus uncle. They'd been placed there to help keep an eye on "the loonies", crazy humans who needed looking after. The series is bonkers and has nothing to do with anything that would come up later in the comics or movies featuring the now gruff and ready-to-rumble Rocket. Over time, these things happen in comics.
I was also very aware of the High Evolutionary from late 1980's/ early 1990's comics, and in-particular a really fun summer event called "The Evolutionary War"* that gave me insight into his whole deal. He's a Grade A villain, but I wasn't sure how one would use him in a Marvel film. But here we are.
SPOILERS
Full stop - it was nice to see Marvel firing on all cylinders again. They're taking too long between sequels and re-appearances of fan-favorite characters as they litter the MCU with new characters, but mostly it's been 6 years since Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Snippets of them in in big crossover films is nice, or doing some day work on Thor is cool, but... come on. Â
Luckily it doesn't feel like anyone missed a beat. Even if the audience who saw the last one in middle school is potentially now in college (that's too long, Marvel). Â
After multiple movies of Rocket being a bit rough around the edges, we get his origin story - even if the Guardians don't. And that's okay. But after being wounded in a fight with the newly hatched Adam Warlock by the Sovereign, Rocket is injured and its discovered his cybernetics include a kill-switch, which in turn points to the legitimate and illegitimate affairs of the MCU-space-freighting High Evolutionary. Â
Turns out this movie is about vivisection and animal testing, and puts a face to the whole affair, while creating Ani-Men along the way.
It's clear Gunn read and appreciated the groundbreaking comic We3 by Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, a three-issue story about a dog, cat and rabbit given cybernetic enhancements as a military experiment. Set free by their keeper when she realizes the military is going to euthanize them, things get very dark, very fast, but it's also an emotional rollercoaster. (Talk about the comics that live in your head. It's still one of my favorite comics of all time.) Â
Pretty clearly Gunn took the characters from the whimsical 1986 comics, overlaying them on ideas and concepts seen in We3, creating something new and utterly heartbreaking in ways I was not expecting.
Meanwhile, Peter Quill is working through his grief at living in a world where his new Gamorra has rejected him, Nebula is trying to make the best of her situation and move forward, Mantis is coming into her own and Drax is... Drax. Â
Our villain this outing is the aforementioned High Evolutionary, recast here as a galactic-level type, played with tremendous effect by Chukwudi Iwuji - a "visionary" who is endlessly working his way to building a utopian society by trying to create new species through an endless parade of grotesquries. But maybe he doesn't know what he's doing? And/ or is more into the process itself than the end goal? And who jealously sees a true, inherent genius in his creation of Rocket that he, himself, lacks.
I can't say how remarkable it is that Gunn works in multiple arcs across multiple characters, and, arguably, those arcs all work. It's possible the overall story that's an excuse for spending time with his characters is a little messy - but I didn't really think so. Gunn is mostly responsible for his own scripts, and he manages to keep things tight. But nothing sacrifices the journeys we've been on since the first film - the characters continue to grow, reflect, refract and change. Â
And this is Gunn. He absolutely knows how to push the buttons to make you laugh, cry, sit on the edge of your seat, make you love a character instantly and care about them in ways that few other filmmakers can do. All of this is wrapped up in one of the more violent corners of the MCU where life really is cheap, and the devastation of whole planets is something that happens along the way. Characters we just met meet swift and terrible ends. Â
But violence isn't the point. Unlike many-a-superhero movie, GotG doesn't reduce itself to a slog of equally matched foes making a light show. Here in Volume 3, we have a finale during which the last 1/3rd isn't just when things get crazy, it's also when character arcs come to a head and work through to completion. And not just "if I beat that guy, I can go home". It's all fairly legitimate third act resolution, which is really something when you consider it's also the 9th to 15th act we've had for some of these characters. Â
Gunn creates amazing scenes. It's worth noting that he does use practical sets when he can (Knowhere's business area is one massive set), and he doesn't rely on dark or haze to cover up what he wants to show. His characters are buyable in their insane spaces - making our own world and reasonable facsimiles of it - look like the alien thing on screen.  And he knows that intersplicing events is the real action in many action movies (thanks, Star Wars, for that lesson!). But he's also not above an astounding but reasonably paced hallways fight giving our re-teamed heroes their moment. Â
And, of course, Gunn's soundtrack was typically on point. I assume Gunn and I must be within a few graduating classes of each other, because I see him.
This was the first movie since probably February of 2020 that Jamie and I have seen together in a theater, and the first for me in an Alamo since, I believe, Birds of Prey. So of course I'm almost predisposed to like this one on principle of the cinematic experience. And, sure, I am certain I missed an error or ten. I am sure the anthropomorphization and cruelty shown to Rocket and his friends was disliked, or seen as manipulative or sentimental. On that we'll have to part ways and ponder the very nature of fictional narratives.
As with all of Gunn's output from the past decade-plus, the rollercoaster of experiences and emotional whiplash - while maintaining a coherent story - is mind-boggling. For comparison/ contrast, one need only turn their eye on the recent-to-Disney+ Quantumania, which just keeps hitting the same notes over and over. Â
I don't mind that Gunn essentially killed characters I'd hoped to see on screen one day since the appearance of Rocket. In a way, I'm disappointed, but I do feel it's earned. I may actually be more cheesed that this eliminates the possibility for a We3 movie, but that was never going to happen properly, anyway. And I am delighted that Rocket did get so much spotlight this film, and that the story felt meaningful. Â
I have no idea what will become of Marvel Studios over the next five to ten years. Not all signs point to another twenty years of non-stop success, and some bad choices have been made here and there in a way that seemed impossible once Marvel started firing on all cylinders. But it's great to send off at least this little corner of the MCU with a sequel worthy of the goodwill.
Sunday afternoon I was asked what I thought of Gunn on Superman: Legacy, and while I won't get into why, specifically, watching a non-Suicide Squad film settled for me that he's the right person of the job at this moment. I think he's got it. Â
*I've always held this up as "how comics cross-over events should be handled". There's a main story and the individual summer annuals tie-in, and you can opt in or out, and it gives everyone time to mention that it happened later in the year in their ongoing titles.

As someone who has watched too much tv for a long time i thought i should share with the group.
TV recs for the upcoming drought:
Some of these are harder to find, the tone and quality vary wildly, they're in no specific order. I tried for not too obscure, but not too obvious. Some are still airing, some are 20 yrs old. I swear I have a life.
Slings and Arrows. Early 2000s Canadian dramedy about theatre and shakespear. Fun without being shallow, aged ok, lovely performances, great writing. nuclear grade comfort watching.
Halt and Catch Fire. 2014 - 2017, US drama. Follows four characters through the 80s tech industry. First time I got the hype around Lee Pace. S1 is ok, but nothing special, s2 is a lot more interesting but kinda goes round in a circle. S3 and 4 and some of the best tv I've ever seen.
Somebody Somewhere. This is actually a new show, but has 2 seasons out if u want a gentle but never shallow comedy. Fills my sad gay heart with joy. And if want more new tv with middle aged gays Deadloch is streaming on amazon atm.
The Expanse. Finished recently. The sci fi I've always wanted. Big and scary and wonderful and pew pew pew space battles and adventure. Balances the grim with a surprising amount of hope? Has repeated themes of redemption. Also a whole book series should u need more.
This Is England. UK drama. A film and 3 mini series set from 1983 through to 1990. Grim, sad af, also funnyand sweet? And characters that I love. The start of my undying love for Vicky McClure. Big ol CW for violence, sexual violence, and era specific racism (esp the first film). Very good, but very hard tv.
Kingdom. 2014. Can be a pain to find because so many shows are called Kingdom. About MMA fighters having drama. Also families, mental health, addiction, etc. Excellent performances. Both a very dumb and very sweet, painful show.
Animal Kingdom. Legit only watched it because I was searched Kingdom posts and AK was out around the same time. Awful family having drama and heists. Adaptation of an Aussie film into a southern California TV show. Kind of a mess? but very compelling mess.
Obligatory Succession (Kardashians for annoying people, aka me. I am the annoying person. this is my perfect tv show), The Bear, (hospo stress and family grief show) and Severance (people talk about workplace horror, but tbh it also gives big mega church horror vibes too)- new shows that live up to the hype, esp if you like sad people. I don't think they really need recs, but i really liked them.
The Thick of It. 2000s UK political comedy? Tragedy? Though these days it looking fuckin utopian compared to UK politics now. Feels a bit like a partial villain origin story for Succession. I like how sad and broken hearted it is.
Outrageous Fortune. 2000s nz dramedy that is the source of my love of family crime drama. Aged badly in places, but still very good character drama. Also, for The Boys fans, Antony Starr at his absolute best. It's a big nostalgia fest for me now. Cheryl West is a forever fav.
Justified. 2010 - 2016ish. i'm lazy i'm not looking stuff up. Yes a cop show, yes a dad show, but also rock solid tv writing and timothy olyphant in a hat. I've watched it so many times, and every time it rewards. and yes, am watching Justified City Primeval atm.
White Collar. A dumb, total fantasy art crimes and capers show. Shit, but if you need to not think and also have Matt Bomer do a shirtless painting montage for vague plot reasons then oh boy there is no other.
Being Human UK. A ghost, a vampire and a werewolf share a flat. it's sweet and agonising and 10+ years later I still love these characters so much.
Legion. 2017 - 2019. Why make tv comic adaptations that are trying for realistic and boring? When they could all be like this? Why make anything that isn't as visually interesting as this?
Doom Patrol - same for doom patrol - superhero tv that cut out the boring bits and just went for the weird and painful. I read a couple of random doom patrols years ago and was so surprised and delighted and loved them. the tv show has the same effect.
The Boys. new, and still going, as far as I know. but two kiwi leads means under nz law i have to be a fan? also it's awful, pulpy vicious popcorn viewing. appeals to the shithead 12 yr old in me. yes, it's vicious anti corporate thing is deeply ironic for an amazon show, but considering amazon saved the expanse with no sense of irony at all I figure take all their money and keep yelling.
Preacher. Another comics adaption. The Boy's weirder, less obscene, more disturbing cousin. Tulip is another forever fav tv character.
Banshee. Continuing the tradition of heth and i starting dumb Dude TV and then getting overly attached. kinda pulpy trash, but if you can stomach the violence it's surprisingly good.
All Star Treks. I love them so much. They're so weird, and uneven, and dumb, and they're all the best and I love them.
One season wonders -
Trust. about the John Paul Getty III kidnapping. also about italian countryside.
State of Play. UK. the tv show, not the film.
I dunno. I could do a whole separate post for sit coms and brit coms and the weirder, more obscure shows and movies, but ffs this is so long.
#tv recs#see my justification is that i can draw while watching#this is my list so i doubt everything on it would appeal to anyone else#but some of it might#i fuckin love me some dramedy#i have a lot of thoughts and feelings about tv#as a medium and it's role in my weird life

N'Pressions: Ghostbusters: Answer the Call Comic Mini-Series is a Better Movie
Greetings lethals and villains-it is spooky time and I decided to go chatter about a Halloween classic: the ghostbusters series. Granted I donât consider the original Ghostbusters this sacred golden cow of cinema but it is one of those franchises that gives way to a lot of flexibility if the two animated series and comic lines have shown us anything. The first one has the best jokes, the second has the best storyline, and Afterlife has the most heart. Iâll admit I didnât like Answer the CallâŚ.on its own terms. A lot of the scenes dragged on to get to the point or the jokes were repeated until they just lost all amusement. And there was just this undertone of unnecessary bitterness that justâŚwhy? I could even forgive the special effects if the writing was better. What is crazy is that it wasnât the story or character concepts themselves that were bad because both Channel Awesome and Lego Dimensions could take those ideas and actually make them funny. Heck the IDW line did a mostly female team arc in their main Ghostbusters series about two years prior to the film and I highly recommend it.
Thinking about that; if they had used the basis of that story for the film-it would have been a huge improvement and maybe Iâll squawk about that one another day. One of the boons that came from Answer the Call was that a lot of the IDW Ghostbusters comics were on sale on Comixology way back in the days before Amazon and their meddling with the UI of the site. Which is really frustrating now especially when you live in the middle of nowhere and you would have to drive almost an hour to get my wings on comics and manga.
Which actually brings us to this mini series that is based off the Answer the Call team. This isnât the first time they were featured in comics, that would be the crossover miniseries: Ghostbusters 101. Unfortunately that crossover is the weakest out of the six crossover specials but this is another discussion for another time. Though their comic journey would be improved in this 5 part miniseries and the Crossing Over event.
These issues would come out in 2018 and in timeline it would take place after 101 with the story written by Kelly Thompson and the artwork done by Corin Howell. The story begins inside a brownstone house and the team is fighting a ghost child. After the capture we see that something is up with Abbey. Back at base Patty is researching up the history of the place and finds something disturbing-that the house used to be come to a Doctor Kruger.
On the nose, I know-even the comic admits that and that he was researching nightmares. And then it shows Abbey being possessed. Holtzman brings out a new weapon and starts technobabbling like she did in the movie and Patty and Erin actually tell her to shut it. On a side note-one thing I will give the movie credit for is the variances of the proton functions and other tools. Sure they will use the basic wand shooters for most jobs-but when they are facing a different sort of enemy-they know they have to vary things up as we shall see later in the mini. Anyway, while they do recuse Abbey-Kruger uses Intimidate and then runs off. In the next issue they chase Kruger into the Empire State building but he is able to push back the capture streams. When they question why-Kruger gives them a demonstration of just what he is capable of even in his current power level by putting them each into their own personal nightmares. Erin is chased by giant bees. Abby is surrounded by clowns, Patty by creepy dolls, and Holtzman surrounded by automatons.
But if you look a second time there is a second nightmare underneath all that. Both Erin and Abbey have a fear of being laughed at and mocked by the scientific community despite their research and evidence. Patty being left behind by the others because she is not a scientist like the rest of the crew. And Holtzman being unable to escape the pressure of conformity. Again it is a nice little character moment that plays into the narrative without halting the plot.
Kruger leaves them behind and as Holtzman puts it afterwards he does not see them as an actual threat to his goals. But after a pep talk they head back to the firehouse to make a new plan and gather information. They realize the only way to really beat him is to either increase firepower (which they canât do through legal means) or outsmart Kruger on his own turf-the latter being decided. After a joke about memory implantation and soup they discover they all share a singular experience from years ago and they can use that experience to level the playing field.
Back at the empire building they face off-though with some hiccups they manage to capture the field and have a plate of nightmare scrambled eggs. The end.
Honestly this comic is what the film should have been. It captures what is best about the franchise-a horror comedy that is still a fun adventure with some snark in the mix. In my opinion it addresses some of the issues of the 2016 film but fixes them in a more subtle way as opposed to shining a flashlight on them. I wonât go though every gag in this book but there is a clever running gag involving Kevin and the phones. The first time they didnât receive calls because Kevin unplugged the phone. Later in the next book Kevin had cut the phone line but Abby had a storehouse of phones. And finally in the last book they bring up he can run the siren if he can master the phone plugged in. Itâs a cute and clever bit of humor that varies it up enough and spaced so the gag actually works.
Though I wouldnât say the comic is perfect. Itâs biggest issue is that it tends to repeat the same story beats for the five issues. They encounter Kreuger, he scares them, he gets away-encounter, scare, escape-encounter, scare win. It really disrupts the flow even for a comic miniseries.
Even shows that play on the Fight to be Continued next episode still weaves into one another without falling back into a repeating loop. I get that they only had a limited space to work with unlike films but it some things could have been cut down such as Abbey being possessed (really aside from a quick reference to the film it doesn't do anything) or cut out to fit in those transitions more smoothly. If this ever got an adaptation this is something that could be fixed easily enough. That being said, if you can get your hands on a copy I recommend giving this mini-series a try and shrug about what we could have had. Also, Sony darling? Extreme Ghostbusters practically handed it to you! Iâm Noctina Noir and take to the skies.

My Everything
Rated: T
Pairing: Shifty/Richie from âRockababyâ
Word Count: 3k~
Summary: Shifty wants to know why Richie likes taking photos of him so much, and he gets his answer--and much more.
A/N: So this comic by the amazing human being @c2ndy2c1d is just really special. And then I wrote a fic because somebody had to, so please read the comic!! I was so charmed by all the characters, and I cannot resist this kind of nerd/jock/coolkid dynamic so here we are. I got permission to write this, so I hope I donât butcher their characterizations! I tried to keep my interpretations as true to the comic as I could. Enjoy <3
-------------------------------------------------
âHow long do I gotta sit like this?â
âJust a minute!â Richie says. Itâs the same thing he said ten minutes ago, and then five minutes before that. He adjusts his camera lens and then poses again, taking another several photos for god knows what reason. âJust donât move. I need to get the right shotâŚâ
Shifty doesnât move as promised, but his tail gives the table beside him a solid thwap to show Richie just how thin his patience is starting to run.
âWhy do you want these photos anyway? Youâve taken likeâthousands already, I swear.âÂ
âThis is the first time Iâve gotten photos with your tail entirely intact.â He snaps another photo. Shifty lets out an explosive sigh and turns his head to give his neck a break. Heâs lying on his stomach, ass up in the air, posed to give Richie âevery valuable angleâ to get all the photos he needs for his research.
Research, research. Itâs always about that damn research of his. Heâs always makinâ Shifty turn this way and that, exposing every part of himself to Richieâs camera. Shifty can feel his face starting to turn pink, and without a doubt he knows the rest of his skin is sure to follow soon. Itâs easier when heâs a human and thereâs only so many places that can turn colors.
âI was hoping I could find a remedy to make your tail grow back faster,â Richie says forlornly, lowering his camera. âIâve still got a lot of work to do.â
âHey, youâre doing great,â Shifty says. He sits up, ignoring the look on Richieâs face and lifts one leg to his chest to give his arm something to lean on. âYou helped make that medicine that took my pain away. That was pretty good.â
âYeah,â Richie agrees reluctantly, staring down at his camera as if a medical marvel isnât comparable to fixing Shiftyâs tailâwhich was gonna grow back anyway. âBut I wanted to figure this one out. I was so closeâŚâ
Shifty shrugs. âYouâve got time. Why worry about one little thing?â
âItâs not little,â Richie says, looking up at him. Even through his huge, nerdy glasses, his eyes burn with a passion that always leaves Shifty feeling strangely breathless. âI want to help you, any way I can.â
âSo youâve said,â Shifty says, off-hand, like his body isnât changing colors. Richieâs gaze doesnât shift, and Shifty keeps his eyes down at his feet, âcause otherwise heâll never get the color to go away. âWhy do you care so much about taking photos of me anyway? I meanââ While Richie stares at him, Shifty wrestles with his words, suddenly finding it hard to articulate something thatâs been running through his mind since this whole thing with Richie started.
âWhat is it?â
âYouâre always taking all these pictures because you think the way I look isââ
ââfascinating,â Richie finishes for him.
âUh huh. Right, fascinating.â Shifty looks around for the pack of smokes Richie keeps for him and finds it on the shelf behind him. He lights it, once again ignoring Richieâs sharp look. No smoking inside, heâs always saying, but Shiftyâs been dying for one for hours, and the rooms got great ventilation. âBut letâs be real for a minuteâdonât you prefer it when I look human?â
Itâs not insecurity that makes Shifty ask the question. Well, not completely. Sure, he sometimes feels insecure about being so different from everyone, but he doesnât wish he was a human. Â Hell noâtheyâre fragile as hell.
Richie blinks at him. âWhy would I want that?â
âWellââ Shifty pauses; stares down at his hand and starts the shift, lifting human fingers for Richie to see. âI donât know, donât you like it more? I look like you.â
âBut youâre not like me,â Richie points out. Shifty shifts uncomfortably, weighing Richieâs words. The way he says itâit shouldnât hurt, but it unexpectedly does.
Something in Shiftyâs face must give him away, because in the next moment, Richie steps forward, his eyes wide. âAnd thatâs a good thing! Youâre not like me, youâre like you. And sure, the Shifty I knew at school and around town is a handsome guy, but I also really like the real you.â At Shiftyâs continued silence, he continues. âWould you prefer it if I looked like you?â
âWell, no,â Shifty admits. âYouâre a human.â
âExactly. Youâre perfect just the way you are.â Richie walks up to him, even closer now, those damn chocolate brown eyes boring into Shifty and makinâ him turn fucking pink. He can feel it happening because it always does around this guy; heâs the only one that can do this to him as often as he does, and the nerd has the gall to act like he has no idea what heâs doing.
He lifts his hands and cups the sides of Shiftyâs face, the warmth of his hands seeping into his skin. The way Richie is looking at himâitâs more observational. Maybe heâd even describe it as clinical. Almost like business as usual, with Richie ignoring his personal space and putting his warm hands all over Shifty, only this time, with the topic of their conversation at hand, Shifty canât take another second of this one-sided embarrassment.
He shifts, his body morphing and skin swirling until heâs almost entirely human. By the time heâs got his human face on, Richie has realized exactly what kind of position theyâre really in. With his eyes still stuck on his, Shifty feels a vicious sense of satisfaction when Richieâs cheeks start to color.
âIâyouââ
Shifty lifts his hand up over the back of Richieâs handâthe one thatâs still hovering by his face uncertainly. âWhat was that you were saying about me being handsome?â
Richieâs glasses slip down his nose. He flicks his eyes down, and then the color in his cheeks darkens.
Do I have something on my face? Shifty wonders.
âYouâre naked,â Richie squeaks. His hands snap to his face so fast that he basically slaps himself and ends up stumbling back, still trying to cover his eyes from Shiftyâs naked form.
Huh, he thinks, looking down at himself. Forgot I was wearing real clothes before.
âCome on, sci-fi, itâs not like youâve never seen me naked before. Iâm naked all the time, in a way.â
âYeah, butââ Richie turns and peeks out from between his fingers, then whips around again. âThatâs different! Youâre usually wearing clothes why arenât you wearing clothes now.â
âTheyâre usually such a pain that I always morph âem, but today I decided, why not try wearing some?â He scratches his chin. âThen I forgot about âem.â
Seeing Richie so flustered by his human self when he doesnât seem to give a damn about a naked alien makes him feelâŚannoyed isnât the right world.
âHey,â Shifty says, stalking up to Richie with his cigarette still in hand. He takes a drag and slides up behind him, wrapping one arm around his waist. Richie jolts with a gasp; Shifty does what he does best and shifts, letting Richie feel the way his body changes, morphing back into his alien self. âYou donât think this part of me is handsome?â
âIâm not answering that question,â Richie says. His ears are red. Shifty feels the oddest urge to bite them.
âOh, so human me is hot, but not real me.â
âIâm notâyouâre notâthatâs not what Iâm saying!â Richie turns around, fixes his warm eyes on Shifty, and points an accusatory finger at him. âI have to remain impartial. Itâs bad enough that youâre all around me at home, beingâŚthe way you areââ
Shifty takes a drag. âThe way I am?â
âLike that! Just like that. Handsome, cool, mysterious,â Richie starts ticking things off his fingers, to Shiftyâs disbelief. âI mean, does smoking even do anything to you? What do your lungs look like?â
âI thought you hated all that stuff?â Shifty asks, ignoring the question.
âWellââ Richieâs flush still hasnât dissipated. He takes off his glasses and starts cleaning them. âEven I can acknowledge that from an objective standpoint, youâre attractive.â
âYou think Iâm hot?â Shifty says, meaning it as a tease, but it comes out like a genuine question. Richie looks up at him, all intense as usual, and something in his face shifts.
âYes,â he admits, face flushed and looking a little shaky on his feet. But his eyesâthereâs that glitter; the glamor of intrigue that he always directs at Shifty and anything worth a dime in his mind. âI do.â
Shifty goes to take another drag of his cigaretteâhe isnât sure what to sayâbut his damn hand is shaking and heâs reached the butt end, so he lets his hand fall and stares up at the ceiling instead. âHuh,â he says. âWell, uhm, thanks.â
Richie doesnât reply; instead, he walks up to Shifty and takes the cigarette butt from his hand and tosses it in the nearby trashcan. He has to reach over to di it, and their fingers brush; it feels electric. Shifty inhales, his heart pounding, and chances a look at Richie.
Heâs now staring at him with such an intense look that Shifty wants to laugh. But manâthose eyes. Shifty would never say it out loud, but he loves the color of Richieâs eyes. He likes the way he looks at him when heâs taking photos, or when heâs sleepy, or when heâs found something new and exciting to fixate on.
Richieâs hand slides over his. He leans forward, and Shifty leans back on instinct, bracing himself against the desk behind him. Heâs so close that Shifty can practically smell the aftershave he uses, even though heâs barely grown a single hair on his chinâ
âRichard, dinnerâs almost ready!â Richardâs mom calls from the landing leading to Richieâs mini laboratory set up in their basement, cutting straight through the tension and demolishing it.
They separate lightning fast. Shifty morphs into a human (with clothes) on instinct, and Richieâs looking down at the table, his face red.
âRichie? Carrot?â Sheâll cycle through all the petnames she can think of if he doesnât answer soon. âYou down there?â
âIâm here!â Richie calls. He glances at Shifty, face full of an unnamed emotion. âIâll be up soon!â
Once her footsteps fade, he sighs and drags his fingers through his hair. Without his glasses on his face, and with his hair slicked backâ Shifty wishes he had something to put in his mouth, keep him from saying something he might regret.
âWe had better get up there,â he says lamely, shoving his hands in his pockets. âBefore the food gets cold.â
âYeah, we shouldâŚdo that.â
Theyâre quiet for a few minutes, both of them lost in their own thoughts, reluctant to leave this space. Richieâs mom never comes down there, so itâs practically theirs: the two of them. Shifty is still thinking about Richieâs hand on top of his. Humans run so hot, and Richieâs like a furnace running in the high heat of summer.
Goddamn it, he thinks, grinding his teeth. He feels unexpectedly angry, for reasons he canât explain.
He turns and starts walking towards the stairs, and thatâs when he feels Richie take hold of his arm.
âWait!â Richie cries, stopping him short. âShifty, wait.â
âWhat is it, Richie?â he says, without turning. âIâve got my eyes on your momâs monthly meatloafââ
Before he has a chance to say more, Richie grabs him by the labels and yanks him forward, straight onto his mouth. Itâs not graceful by any meansâRichieâs glasses nearly poke Shifty in the eye, and the angleâs all wrong, but itâs good. Hell, better than good, itâs great.
Itâs chase, with no tongue, but Richie pulls away to adjust the angle and nearly trips backwards over his own damn feet, so Shifty ends up being the one to wrap his arms around Richieâs waist and pull him in for another kiss. And another. And then maybe a few more after that, until Richie has his face in his hands again andâgod, his mouth is so soft, and his hands are so warm. Shifty could just melt in him. Heâs just glad heâs not shifted, âcause otherwise heâd be pink up to his eyeballs. Plus, itâs easier to kiss Richie like this.
The series of kisses lasts probably only a minute or so, but it feels like forever. And when they pull away, hell, Shiftyâs really glad heâs not shifted, because the look Richie is directing at him could make fireworks light up.
âThat was one helluva kiss, Richie,â Shifty manages.
âYour skin,â Richie replies, brushing his thumb across Shiftyâs cheek. For a second heâs worried heâs shifted back, or worseâthis form now comes in the same shade of pink, too, but when he looks down at himself he can see that speckles of his scales have crept into his skin. Theyâre probably on his face, just under his eyes.
âGuess I just lost a bit of control for a sec,â Shifty admits, rubbing the back of his neck. Richieâs eyes widen, the look on his face is the same look he gets when heâs filing away important information for later. âJesus, Richie, not that Iâm complaining, butâŚwhat was that for?â
âI wantedâŚwell IâI wanted to do that. Kiss you, I mean, even though Iâve never done it before, so it was probably badââ
Shifty opens his mouth to interrupt and say that it wasnât, but Richie continues quickly, the flush on his face down to his neck now. Maybe humans can turn completely pink when pressed.
âBut I also wanted to say that Iâm sorry. Shifty, if Iâve ever made you feel like youâre just a specimen orâor a lab experiment, then thatâs not right. Youâre more than that.â He takes Shiftyâs hand and squeezes, eyes locked on his. âYouâre a kind and intelligent and amazing friend, and youâre so beautiful. No matter what form you take.â
Shifty ducks his head. Praise isnât really his thing; he doesnât like being the center of that kind of attention, but on the other hand (and literally, heâs holding his hand), Richie has become an important part of his life heâd rather not do without. He likes having him around, even if itâs for his âresearchâ.
âHell,â he says, not sure what else to say. Richie gives Shiftyâs hand another squeeze, and the place where theyâre touching tingles. Shiftyâs heart is still beating fast, and the words heâs been thinking about just slip out of his mouth. âYou saying you wanna go steady, or what?â
Itâs almost phrased like a joke, and for a minute Shifty wants to take it back, because how is that anyway to ask somebody out? Thereâs no way Richie would take that and go with it, but when he looks at his face, Richieâs mouth opens, and then his eyes light up.
âAre you seriously asking me?â he asks, and adds hastily after a long pause, âbecause the answer would be yes. I would. Very much so. If, um, kissing you wasnât obvious enough.â
âIâm seriously askinâ,â Shifty says, then realizes that while Richie gave him a nice little speech, he hasnât really returned the favor. âYouâre a nerd, Richie. Thereâs no gettinâ around that.â
âHeyââ
âBut,â Shifty continues, raising a hand. âThatâs how I like you. Youâre wicked smart, and you get me, maybe more than anybody else around here. Youâre one of my best friends, aside from Buttons, and when youâre in your element youâre pretty damn cool.â
A smile slowly splits across Richieâs face, until heâs grinning from ear to hear. That hand thatâs still holding onto Shiftyâs tugs him forward. For a second Shifty thinks he might try to kiss him again, but maybe he used up all his confidence when he did it the first time, because all he does is hold his hand and smile. Â
Fuck. Shifty clears his throat. âSo we gonna eat, or stand here all night?â Not that he would mind.
âOh! Yeah, my momâs probably waiting for us. Come on.â Richie pulls him towards the stairs and Shifty goes without protest. Theyâre still holding hands, and when they reach the ground floor it isnât until Richieâs mom finds them that he finally letâs go.
âHoney, Iâve been waiting for ages. What were you two doing down there?â She takes in their appearance and the flushed look on Richieâs face. âCarrot, your face is so red. Are you feeling all right?â
Despite the completely innocuous question, Richieâs face makes a complicated expression and he flounders for a response. âAhâ weâ I mean Iâ "
âScience,â Shifty answers smoothly, flinging his arm around Richieâs shoulders. âYou know how it is.â
Richieâs mom looks at them, her eyes flicking between the two, and then she claps her hands together. âOh, donât I ever! Well, enough science for the night. Letâs eat!â
âVery smooth,â Shifty says to Richie after sheâs gone ahead. Richie frowns at him.
âYouâre one to talk.â He raises an eyebrow. ââScience?ââ
Shifty shrugs. Richieâs frown softens into a soft smile, and before he can metaphorically attack Shifty with his warm eyes, he steals a kiss from Richieâs half-open mouth, grinning when he sputters at him indignantly.
âCome on, sci-fi, meatloafâs waiting,â he says, letting his hand linger at his lower back, just a while longer.

His Princess
characters : dad! Yuta Nakamoto x Reader, Shihoh
summary : A little father-daughter date turns into something unexpected.Â
word count : 1.7k words
tag list : @ailoveyutaâ @yutazen01â @aiforyuuâ @cosmiclatte28âÂ
a/n : Welcome to another episode of dad! Yuta. đÂ
The moment Shihoâs eyes opened that morning, she beamed at the large bunny stuffed toy sitting on the chair. This is new. Next to her pillow was a bouquet of pink roses that made her giggle. Thereâs only one person who would do this. Heâs here. Heâs back.
At a young age, she understood how her dad would always be away for his work. Her mom made her understand that heâs doing it for her. And although she misses him all the time, she promised him that she will not cry because of a guy, especially her dad.
Her little footsteps echoed through the house as the pink rose petals scattered all through the house. âDaddy!â she called from the kitchen, seeing her dad in front of the stove. The bouquet was easily left on the floor as she ran to her fatherâs arms.Â
âDid you miss me, princess?â Yuta asked which made the younger girl nod. âDaddy missed you as well.â
âAre you staying for good? Or youâre going to leave again?â
His face fell that instant. This was always his daughterâs question and he hated seeing that sad expression in her eyes. âIâll be here for four days.â She nodded as he placed her on top of the counter then flipped the pancake heâs doing. âIâll cook you every meal and tuck you to bed every night.â
A wide smile appeared on Shihoâs lips. Yuta hated that she looks just like you. God, his daughter is so pretty. âOh no. My flowers,â she exclaimed realizing that the bouquet is still on the floor. Yuta chuckled then carried her down that she took the forgotten flowers, caressing it. âDid you get me the flowers, daddy? And the big bunny?â
Yuta nodded, putting the pancakes on the plate. âUncle Jaehyun bought the bunny for you.â he reasoned out. âMommy said you like pink so I bought you flowers. Do you want something else, Shihoh?â She shook her head, smiling widely. âHow do you want your pancakes, baby?â
Shihoh explained that she wanted it in heart shape, even telling Yuta that you have a special cutter just for that located in one of the drawers. The younger poured syrup all over her pancake, smiling as she tasted it. Yuta smiled. Sheâs growing up fast. She can eat alone now. He remembered how the both of you were having a hard time feeding Shihoh. Now, sheâs doing it alone.
âWhere is mommy?â She asked innocently. âDid you also get her flowers, daddy?â
Yuta nodded. âSheâs still sleeping.â
âIs she tired? Did she do a lot of work last night?â
The older smirked. âShe did a lot last night. So letâs just let mommy rest today.â Shihoh nodded. âPrincess, letâs go on a date together.â
Her eyes sparkled that instant, staring at him. âCan I wear my pink dress?â Yuta nodded, smiling. âHow about mommy?â
âLetâs just go on a date with her later. For now, itâs just daddy and Shihoh.â The younger nodded, giggling. She excused herself to fix herself for their so-called date. Yuta shook his head. Sheâs really a grown-up.
Shihoh had been repeatedly saying that you will get sad if you wake up and find out theyâre on a date and Yuta had to reassure her that he had full permission to date her. He wanted to be jealous, your bond is really out of this world now. Even at the park, while Yuta is setting up the small picnic he prepared, Shihoh kept on mumbling about her mom. And he thought heâs the only person who would love you this much.
He was just watching her with a smile on his face. Sheâs picking up your habits. The way she scrunches her nose while sheâs having trouble opening the lid of the yogurt, even your odd way of eating the crust of the sandwich first. Shihoh has become an exact replica of you. And itâs endearing. Truly, a mini-you. How can Yuta not fall in love with his daughter?
Shihoh asked if she could play in the playground and Yuta nodded, packing up the picnic he made. Yuta fished his phone out, dialing your number while watching Shihoh from afar. âHow was your date?â You asked that made him chuckle.
âShihoh was worried that youâre going to be sad. She wished youâre here.â
You smiled fondly over the phone. âItâs your bonding. You wanted a daddy-daughter time together.â Â
He laughed, leaning his back on the tree nearby. âYeah. But you call me daddy as well.â You had to call his name to make him stop, making him laugh. âHow are you feeling? Shihoh was asking me why youâre still asleep and I told her you did a lot of work.â
You giggled. âI did do all the work.â
âBecause you missed me so much,â Yuta said with a smile. âDonât worry, Iâll do all the work tonightâŚâ He hastily stood up when his attention went to the playground, âShiho Nakamoto!â he called then the line got quiet.
A lot of scenarios were running in your mind. Did she get hurt? Yuta sounded mad. You messaged him, even trying to call but he didnât answer any of it. You grew worried. Nothing bad happened, right?
You heard the car enter the garage as you paced back and forth in the living room, biting your thumb. The moment you opened the door, Shihoh hugged you while crying and Yuta just stormed past the two of you. He looks angry. âDaddy is mad at me.â Did they fight?
Yuta sighed when she started sobbing in your arms, escaping to the kitchen. What happened? You carried Shihoh inside, placing her on your lap as you sat on the couch. âCan you tell mommy what happened?â
She breathed heavily, âThe boy has a boo-boo so I kissed him and thenâŚâ Her cries got louder as she leaned in your arms. âDaddy got mad at me.â You had to bite your lip to prevent yourself from smiling. Thatâs just cute. âI just want to make him better.â
âI know, honey.â You said in a soft voice, rubbing her back. âBut Shihoh you cannot just kiss someone like that.â
She stared at you wide-eyed. âWhy not? You do it for me all the time.â
âBecause Iâm your mommy.â
âI wanted to be a mommy as well.â You gasp at that. Sheâs really cute. âI want to be like you.â
You giggled. How can you explain this to a five year old? âI thought you wanted to be Elsa?â But she just stared at you. âHoney, youâll be a mommy if you grow up. Youâll be a mommy if you meet someone like daddy.â Her eyes were still curious and it made you smile. âNow, just let mommy be mommy. And you as mommy and daddyâs princess Elsa.âÂ
âBut daddy is still mad at me,â she said in a sad voice that broke your heart.
âHeâs not. Heâs just scared.â
âBut daddy is strong. He doesnât get scared.â
âHe does. Especially when itâs about you.â You said. âDaddy is scared that his princess will become a queen and be taken by some prince from another kingdom.â The look in her eyes made you giggle. She looked scared.
Shihoh shook her head. âI donât want that. I still want to be daddyâs princess.â
You smiled. She really does admire Yuta. "So Shihoh, we don't kiss other guys especially in front of daddy, okay?" In her innocent look, she asked if that includes Mark oppa and you nodded. "Even NCT uncles, honey."
Shihoh nodded then hugged you tight. "I'm sorry mommy. I won't do it again."
"You shouldn't say sorry to me." You gestured at the kitchen that made the little girl nod.
It does seem comical when Shihoh approached your husband, looking really scared. "DaddyâŚ" she called. "I'm sorry. I won't do it again." Yuta had to kneel in front of her as she hugged him tightly.
"I'm sorry, princess. Daddy overreacted."
"Don't be scared, daddy. I don't want you scared. I'll forever be your princess."
"And I'll forever protect you, my princess." He wiped away her tears as you watched the two of them. "Sorry, daddy made you cry."
"Sorry, Shihoh made you mad." She was now smiling. Any sign of their rift earlier is nowhere in sight which made you smile. They're really the same.
Yuta asked Shihoh to change into her home clothes and she ran into her room that made you chuckle. "SoâŚ" You started. "Where did she kiss the boy?"
"His hand," Yuta mumbled which made you surprised. All this drama just because Shihoh kissed a guy's hand? Yuta is just too much. "A lot of things flashed in my eyes, okay?" He revolted but you still chuckled. "I even saw her in a wedding dress."
You had to roll your eyes at that. "Don't you think that you're a little protective of Shihoh? Calm down Yuta, she's just five years old. She won't be wearing the wedding dress even after ten years."
"You bet she's not."
A chuckle escaped your lips as you hugged his waist. His hand rests on your back, staring at you in question. Why are you suddenly so clingy? "Will you stop being too overprotective if we have another child?" His eyes lit up that instant. The same expression Shihoh has. "Besides, she already said that she wants to be a mom. Maybe she can now take care of a younger brother or sister."
You felt Yuta trap you in a hug, hands on your waist. "Are you sure?" You nodded, sliding your arms on his chest to hold his shoulders. "I love you, Y/N." he mumbled, rubbing your nose together. "I'm glad you're Shihoh's mom."
"Do you have any other choice?" He giggled. Yuta's lips were on yours that instant. The same gentleness he had from last night as he held you tight.
"Mommy, are you hurt?" Shihoh asked, eyeing the two of you. You had to shake your head as Yuta scooped her in his arms.
"Shihoh, do you miss your uncles? Do you want to spend the night with them? How about Mark?"
You laughed. God, you're really in love with your family.

[CN] 3rd Anniversary Love Carnival - Lucien
đ Warning: This post contains detailed spoilers for an event which has not been released in English servers! đ
Lucienâs Prologue: here
3rd Anniversary Masterlist: here
[ PART ONE ]
MC: Which attraction should we try firstâŚ
Looking at the splendid carnival, Iâm a little spoilt for choice.
Seeing how I canât make a decision, Lucien chuckles.
Lucien: Take your time to pick. No matter which attraction it is, Iâll experience it together with you.
MC: Iâve decided!
Lucien: In that case, which attraction is so lucky to have been picked by MC?
Lifting my hand, I point towards the front.
MC: Letâs start todayâs journey with the âRotating Wind-and-Fire Wheelâ!
Lucien: âŚ
Iâm not sure if itâs a misperception, but Lucienâs gentle smile seems to freeze for a second.
Even though I chose this scream-inducing attraction with a high morale, my heart still feels slightly anxious when I sit down.
After all, aside from a rotating descent, each seat is also centered on a connecting point at the ends of the ride, enabling it to move 360 degrees at a high speed.
After buckling the seatbelt, I take a deep breath.
MC: Lucien, are you ready?
In contrast to my evidently nervous self, Lucien maintains his usual composure.
Lucien: Mm. I believe the safety of this facility is sufficiently comprehensive.
MC: What I mean is⌠you can tell me if youâre scared.
Lucien: A sizeable number of people enjoy the more exhilarating rides in the amusement park. For instance, the rollercoasters, and the Wind-and-Fire Wheel weâre on right now.
MC: âŚ
Although I donât know why heâs suddenly bringing this up, I nod.
Lucien: Other than joy or happiness, people seek after fear on their own accord. When weâre in a safe environment and experience things that stimulate our âfight-or-flight responseâ, the brain will secrete serotonin.
The ride starts moving slowly. Lucien doesnât seem to be affected by this, and his tone remains calm.
Iâm a little confused about this sudden seminar on anthropology.
However, after putting more thought into it, a guess which doesnât seem quite possible, yet is appropriate for this situation furtively arises.
Lucien: Aside from this, when experiencing more adrenaline-inducing ridesâ
Lucienâs mini lecture abruptly stops.
At the same time, without any warning, our seat starts spinning at a great speed. Along with the change in altitude, I instinctively start screaming.
MC: Ahhâ!!
The sense of weightlessness and soaring into the air intertwine, and the world goes topsy-turvy. Other than the instinctive fear and anxiousness, what remains embedded in my mind is another impactful fact.
Even Lucien is scared!!
When we return to the ground, a sense of contentedness Iâve never felt before gushes out of my heart.
MC: Ah, Mother Earth, I love you.
Not caring whether Iâd get ridiculed, I sigh with emotion from the bottom of my heart.
Lucien pats my back as a form of comfort, and smoothens my hair.
Lucien: How are you feeling now?
MC: As compared to thisâŚ
I straighten up, looking at Lucien seriously.
MC: Lucien, you arenât great with such rides, are you?
Lucien: At the very least, I, with my eyes open, could see this brave lady screaming with her eyes closed during the entire process.
He doesnât give me a straightforward answer. His calm state seems to be no different from before we rode the Wind-and-Fire Wheel.
However, his slightly tense smile, and his slightly flying fringe, gives me a different answer.

[ PART TWO ]Â
Note: Contains references from Reading Date, which has not been released in EN!
After experiencing the severe trials of the Rotating Wind-and-Fire Wheel, I select a few more peaceful attractions.
Taking Lucienâs advice, we take a short break in a small garden in the park after taking some simpler rides.
The park is built on a man-made lake, and numerous evergreen shrubs have been planted. Even on winter days, it doesnât appear cold or cheerless.
For some reason, thereâs a sweet fragrance permeating in the surrounding air.
After sitting down on a bench, Lucien doesnât rest with me. He tells me to wait for a while, then walks along the path to the other end of the park.
What returns with him are two freshly prepared crepes.
Lucien: Since just now, you seemed to be looking for something. If my guess is correct, the fragrance you whiffed should be this.
MC: You noticedâŚ
The freshly prepared fruit crepe still carries with it a faint warmth. Embellished with cream and chocolate, it looks especially delicious.
MC: Lucien, thank you!
Lucien sits down beside me, watching ripples appear on the surface of the lake.
Although itâs already late winter, the weather is especially good today. Coupled with how heâs beside me, it makes me feel even warmer.
MC: It looks like a scene from a comic.
I munch on the crepe happily, and canât help but sigh with emotions.
Lucien: Why do you say that?
MC: Just look - donât you typically see such scenes in comics? The female and male protagonists head out together for a date, take a break in the park, and share sweet crepes together.
The female-targeted comics Iâd once read surfaces in my mind.
The thought of those scenes, which I had once yearned for, happening to me right now causes a sweetness to arise in my heart.
Lucien: Mm. I remember. When we exchanged books the last time, those comic books you had did have such scenarios. From such a perspective, I should have bought two different flavoured crepes, and exchanged them with you while we ate.
MC: Thereâs need for that. Things are already very good now. After all, life canât be the same as in comics. Being able to participate in the carnival and enjoy delicious desserts is already the best date.
I take another bite of the crepe, the soft cream spreading in my mouth, filling all of my tastebuds.
Lucien: Is that so? In contrast, I think this girl who keeps quite a number of comics has pretty high expectations of her own âmale protagonistâ.
While Lucien says this, he turns his head and gently kisses the corner of my mouth.
The moist and soft sensation is akin to a feather brushing past lightly.
In the winter day which brings with it a slight coldness, his temperature is exceptionally obvious. It brands itself onto my skin, and melds into my breaths.
Iâm frozen to the spot, my heart thumping continuously.
I can almost imagine that if this were a comic book, I know what kind of storyboard would be used for this present sceneâŚ
There would definitely be a large patch of white, with flowers and plants bubbling and encircling the protagonists.
MC: Why are you suddenlyâŚ
The âchief culpritâ who caused my face to flush red remains calm and composed. He even takes a bite of the crepe in my hand.
Lucien: Now, does it seem a little closer to a comic?
[ PART THREE ]
Lucien: Oh yes, MC. Thereâs an attraction I want to try. Could you accompany me?
MC: What is it?
Lucien doesnât respond. He simply takes my hand, leading me forward.
Lucien: This.
Looking at the attraction which has caused him to pause, I blink a number of times.
MC: The Pirate Ship?
Even though weâve already buckled our seatbelts, and the Pirate Ship has already started swaying back and forth, I still canât help but ask Lucien a question.
MC: Lucien, did you really want to ride this? If this is revenge for pulling you to ride the Wind-and-Fire Wheel earlier, your plan would have failed. After experiencing the Wind-and-Fire Wheel, even if weâre seated at the head of the boat, I definitely wouldnât feel afraid! Also, based on what Iâve observed, youâre not great with such rides.
Seeing my confident expression, Lucien nods.
Lucien: I donât deny that.
The Pirate Ship sways at a gradually increasing angle. But as I said - after experiencing the Wind-and-Fire Wheel, the Pirate Ship is nothing special.
Lucien: However, thereâs an experiment I wish to conduct, and itâs worth taking on a ride Iâm not great at.
MC: Experiment?
Lucien: Of course, from your perspective, it could be understood as another reason.
When Iâm just about to continue probing, I gradually realise that there seems to be something wrong with this Pirate Ship.
Based on my memory, the speed of the swinging Pirate Ship shouldnât be this fast.
MC: Did youâŚ
Lucien: Based on my observations, the angle of the swinging Pirate Ship in this carnival is even larger than typical Pirate Ships. Put another way, its âdestructive powerâ is even stronger.
As though agreeing with his words, the Pirate Ship sways from a vertical angle following the next swing.
MC: Ahhhâ!
A similar weightlessness from the Wind-and-Fire Wheel causes me to scream even louder.
Despite experiencing a similar ride, my body didnât get used to it as I had expected.
Instead, it exacerbates the memory from earlier, intensifying the feeling of fear.
I squeeze my eyes shut, gripping the handlebar tightly, wanting to stick myself to the seat.
When the ride ascends again, I can feel the Pirate Ship reaching a height that it has never reached before.
In my extreme nervousness, my heart clenches tightly.
Lucien: MC.
Suddenly, Lucien calls my name.
I subconsciously open my eyes to look at him.
Itâs the first time Iâm seeing such a Lucien.
In my memories, his expressions are mostly flat.
But right now, Lucien is looking at me, his narrow eyes turning into handsome arcs. The corners of his lips are raised, and heâs smiling happily and broadly.
Behind him is the dark blue sky. At a place far from the ground, I see a completely different smile from Lucien.
In its brightness, I seem to sense the childishness of someone whose prank has succeeded.
In this moment, I even forget that Iâm on the Pirate Ship which is about to make its descent in the next second.
When my body reminds me of this, itâs already too late to close my eyes.
The exhilaration from having my eyes open while screaming is ten times more than when my eyes are closed.
MC: Ahhâ!!!
In this instance, I understand what he meant by âanother reasonâ.
Lucien: A little, tiny revenge?
MC: Luâ! Cienâ!!!
What I get in response is a sigh from Mother Nature, as well as Lucienâs soft chuckle from the side.
[ PART FOUR ]
Looking around the adorably and warmly decorated cafeteria, and then the little gift that came along with the meal, Iâm a little confused.
A few minutes ago, we were thinking about what to have for dinner, and we walked into this warm and adorably decorated small shop.
But we didnât expectâŚ
MC: I really didnât think itâd be so âhardcoreâ.
I hold up the little gift, placing it in between Lucien and I.
Itâs different from the small ornaments and objects with a feminine aura from my memories.
This cafeteria gives a heart-shaped Burr puzzle to patrons who order the couple set.
MC: The dishes are so delicious that theyâre comparable to top-grade restaurants. Even the gifts they provide are just as hardcore. Itâs amazing.
Lucien is tickled by my dead serious expression.
Lucien: Looks like the organiser has put in much effort, wanting to leave every visitor with unforgettable and happy memories.
MC: But giving visitors a heart which canât be unlocked - whatâs the owner of the shop thinkingâŚ
Without a proper strategy, I play with the Burr puzzle, and canât help but grumble.
Lucien chuckles, taking this âheartâ from my hand.
Lucien: With a little technique, it can be opened easily.
He sits slightly closer to me. Slowing down, he gives me a demonstration while explaining the technique of how to unlock the Burr puzzle.
With the movement of his fingertips and a gentle tug, the wooden lock, which was linked for a very long time, opens, revealing a tiny empty space in the heart which can be used to store things.
MC: Even though youâre already sick of this phrase, I still have to say - Lucien, youâre truly incredible.
Lucien: If I say that I havenât gotten sick of this phrase, would you be willing to say it to me even more times?
Lucien turns his head over slightly to look at me. In his eyes are the familiar smile and slyness Iâm most familiar with.
MC: If I say it, will I get a special prize from Professor Lucien?
After hearing this, Lucien actually ponders over it.
He narrows his eyes slightly, as though heâs facing the most complex, important, and difficult question.
Lucien: If itâs a prizeâŚ
All of a sudden, he leans over to my ear. Every gentle word brushes against my outer ear, trickling into my heart.
Lucien: Would an especially happy Lucien be enough?
MC: âŚProfessor Lucien, thatâs called being unreasonable.
Lucien: Is that so? I even thought youâd be very satisfied with it.
Lucien blinks, pretending to be taken aback.
Just when I think of how to best turn the tables, he places the wooden mortise of the Burr puzzle, which is used to store items, in my hand.
Lucien: Want to think of what to put in here? Given its structure, Iâm thinking this is a safer place to store tiny keepsakes.
MC: Yes.
I turn towards the staff at the side, asking for a few sheets of post-its and pens, and also to allowing the temperature on my face to dissipate.
After we write on our respective notes for a while, Lucien and I exchange them.
On mine, thereâs a simple drawing of a man opening a lock, a handsome smile on his face.
What Lucien hands over is a sketch.
In the simple composition, in the midst of light and shadow, he impressively draws me.
The me in the picture has her head lowered, writing on the post-it note, smiling very sweetly.
MC: Now, weâre doubly satisfied!
[ PART FIVE ]
MC: Why is there an animal show?
I look at the signboard at a corner of the park, and canât help but frown.
MC: Should we remind the organisers that this is disrespectful to the animals, and also inhumane?
Lucien: Under normal circumstances, that would be the case.
Lucien takes out the guidebook, turning to the page which features the animal show.
Lucien: All the animals performing here have been rescued by the Loveland Animal Protection Organisation. During their training, there will not be any scolding or punishment. They also wouldnât do anything against their instincts. For instance, jumping through flaming hoops. Thereâs a strict limit on how long they can perform, ensuring that these little fellows wouldnât be too tired. Also, just as the guidebook saysâŚ
Lucienâs finger glides to the respective section of the guidebook.
Lucien: The profits from the carnival will all be used on animal rescue and protection. So I think supporting the âworkâ of these small animals is something we could do.
MC: Since youâve put it that way, letâs go have a look!
-
Very quickly, along with a crisp sound of an bell, the performance begins.
A small white cat peeks its head out from the stage. After looking right and left, it leaps onto the window sill with light steps.
In the next second, plump tuxedo cats jump out from the same place, running to the railing at the other end.
Various coloured kittens start a round of ârelay racingâ.
MC: So cute!
Even more small animals join this relay race.
Puppies, parrots, and even charmingly adorable piglets and vivacious lambs.
MC: Lucien, how do you think they did this?
Completely absorbed in this novel performance, I canât help being curious.
Lucien: By using food as a method of training, every small animal knows where it should run to. Staff members behind the scenes would let the next small animal enter the stage at the appropriate timing, leading to a successful performance.
MC: âŚthatâs all?
Even though I was the one who brought up the question, receiving such an unexpectedly simple principle causes me to feel slightly empty.
MC: Truly, after knowing the principles behind things, the magic is no longer interestingâŚ
My soft muttering doesnât escape Lucienâs ears.
Lucien: Why donât I give you a small gift as compensation for this âspoilerâ?
The length of the performance isnât very long. Once itâs over, Lucien walks over to the staff, and says something to him.
Lucien: MC, come here.
Curious, I follow Lucien to the empty area beside the stage.
The bell rings once again. This time, however, the âlittle actorsâ who had appeared on stage earlier are standing in a queue, walking towards me.
In the mouth of every animal is a small flower.
MC: Are these⌠for me?
As though answering my query, the small animals place the flowers into my open palm.
Lucien ties the flowers together, weaving them into a bracelet, and carefully wears it on my wrist.
Lucien: Even if itâs a simple principle, it can bring pleasant surprises if coupled with the thought of wanting to make you happy.
While he says this, he takes the final flower held by a small bird, wrapping it around my fourth finger, and rolling it into a ring.
Lucien: This âmagicâ which has been disclosed - do you like it?

Ok, so in the past weeks (I think since November, more or less) I'm watching/ re-watching some Les Miserables adaption, together with @clumsyhobbit.
For now we watched the 1995 concert, 2014 Broadway musical, 2019 concert, 1964 Italian serie, 1978 movie, and 4 episodes of 2018 BBC serie. We yet programmed to finish the BBC serie and then 2012 movie (which I saw on my own many times) and Shojo Cosette anime (where I saw only few episodes).
Soon or later we need to watch also the 2010 concert, the 1998 movie and 2000 mini serie.
But, for now, I think that I could show you my "Dream Cast", even if it maybe will be updated in the future.
BTW, here it is:
Jean Valjean
Richard JordanÂ
(1978 movie)
I mean, look at him! He's too cute! And also, his look is so fluffy and on point!
Even if Colm Wilkinson and Hugh Jackman has both a special place in my heart!
Javert
Philip Quast
(1995 concert)
He IS Javert. Period.
But heâs immediately fololwed by Tino Carraro (1964 Italian serie) and Anthony Perkins (1978 movie) as theyâre both perfect (Carraro is a very accurate Brick Javert, and Perkins is amazing too!!
(Even if my forbidden desire is to see, soon or later, a Romani Javert on screen... T^T)
Cosette
Ellie Bamber
(2018 BBC serie)
Baby Cosette
Mailow Defoy + Lia Giovanelli
(2018 BBC serie)
Finally we could see the FULL story of Cosette.
She has a personality!!
And theyâre adorable.
But all these girls needed to have brown hair XP
Marius
Roberto Bisacco
(1964 Italian serie)
As he looks 100% the clumsy, awkward and naive boobie-boy he is in the book.
Fantine
Anne Hathaway
(2012 movie)
She is so good and her acting is heartbreaking, even if a lot of her story is brutally cut out (and she needs to be BLONDE!!)
Eponine
Samantha Barks
(2012 movie)
Alright, both Angela Cardile (1964 Italian serie) and Erin Kellyman are much more similar to the clever and stalky girl that Eponine is in the book, in 1964 serie theâre is also the part where she lures Marius at the barricade just trying to die with him (IDK if there is also in the 2018 serie, Iâve not seen yet the last 2 episodes), but Samantha Barks is too intense to not be loved, even if the character in the musical is totally changed.
Azelma
Alex Jarrett
(2018 BBC serie)
Well, sheâs basically only there and in the 1964 serie, but she didnât do so much. And I prefer her 2018 appearance, so...
Gavroche
Adam Searles
(1995 concert)
IDK, I like so much also Reece Davies (2018 BBC serie) and Logan Clark (2019 concert) but when I imagine Gavroche, Crivelloâs look is the first that I think.Â
M.me Thenardier
Olivia Colman
(2018 BBC serie)
Because only there sheâs really shown as the bastard bitch she is in the book.
In all the other adaptions sheâs only or a comic relief or drunk (1964) or even cut out briefly (1978)
Thenardier
Antonio Battistella
(1964 Italian serie)
Heâs perfect. The clever asshole he is in the book, and not (again) a comic relief or very cut out (1978, again, where all the Thenardier family is brutally cut out except in a short scene).
I like very much also Adeel Aktar (2018 BBC serie), as heâs too shown perfecty in character (basically both these Thenardiers act on point in the same way), but.... That vagina-like beard make me uncorfortable... Sorry! ^_^â
Enjolras
Aaron Tveit
(2012 movie)
His look is perfect, and heâs very good as the fiery and intrepid leader of the barricade.
But another perfect Enjolras is Claudio Sora (1964 Italian serie) as he is totally the idealistic, serious and ferocius revolutionary he is in the book.Â
Honorable mention even to Bradley Jaden (from 2019 concert) as heâs too adorable and cute for this world!
Grantaire
IDK his name
(1964 Italian serie)
I love the 1964's Grantaire (I canât find his name, sorry) as everytime is on screen he cracks me up, heâs perfect as acting as a drunk dude (even if he looks as a 45 years old man, definitely too much old for a student! XD).
His scenes with Javert are priceless!! XDD
But, on a side note, for Grantaire happens the same thing I said of Gavroche, that every time I imagine him, is George Blagden (2012 movie) that appears.
Fauchelevent
Cyril Cusack
(1978)
His mastermind dialogue with the Mother at the Petit-Picpus is too much funny!
Courfeyrac
Archie Madekwe
(2018 BBC serie)
Heâs too cute! And I love how is shown his friendship with Marius!
Mon. Myriel
Colm Wilkinson
(2012 movie)
What can I say? Heâs adorable, looking so peaceful and wise all the time!
Les Amis
(Iâm sorry, but theyâre shown all, (precising the names) only in the 1964 serie (in both the 2012 movie and 2018 BBC serie theyâre there also, but honestly I canât understand which is which), so I canât make a good choice for them. :P
BONUS:
Rivette
Enzo Clienti
(2018 BBC serie)
Ok, he is an original character which appears only in the 2018 serie, but heâs too adorable to not mention him! <3)
@clumsyhobbit if you want, do a list of your favourite cast too!!

Lukanette prompts #26 (but Luka says it...)
There was always a feeling of calm when he came home, almost nothing was better than touching down in the Paris airport and feeling the stress from touring fall off with every step from the airplane. It had been longer than Luka had liked to be away from his family and really this time he was early, not that he had told his family just yet. Luckily, Penny was the best and booked him a room where he was able to crash for the night and had options for food places nearby as he was sick of hotel room service.
âIf youâre fighting with Ma again, I don't want to hear about it.â He answered the phone, knowing it was his sister on the other line.
âNo, just talking about your baby pictures.â
âOh great, youâre being sappy? Do I want to come home in that case?â Luka teased, not meaning a word of it.
âBlame your nephew, he started it.â He choked on air as he heard shuffling before Roseâs voice came through, indicating she had taken over the phone.
âLuka! We got approved for a baby boy! Captain has been a little weepy but like a good weepy because he has the most adorable face and dark hair but with a slight curl and his eyes gosh! They are like the ocean! He really likes your baby pictures, ah I can't wait for you to meet him!â Rose squealed in excitement, risking Lukaâs much needed eardrum.
âWait, wait, how did you get a whole baby?!â the older exclaimed, putting the phone on speaker in an attempt to save his ears.
âWell, two mommies loved each other very much and decided they wanted to share their love with a very special little baby. The two mommies went to meet the baby but on their way they met another precious child and they knew right away that the little boy with hair as dark a night and eyes like the ocean was destined to become part of their family. And after some time of play dates and special trips around the city, the mommies got to take their new son home.â There was some shuffling as Rose was sniffling and his sister murmuring words of comfort to her.
âI wow, congratulations⌠Another Couffaine huh?â
âNot quite, we still need to finalize some papers and such. Weâre meeting up at Marinetteâs parentâs bakery, he loves it there. This will be his first overnight stay so weâre excited but nervous because we want him to feel comfortable.â
âI don't think you have to worry, you both have a lot of love to give and worst case, Uncle Luka can come to the rescue.â
âIf you were here yeah, rescue us or him depending. Maybe next time.â
âSee you can be sappy! Iâve got to get going but do keep me posted, Iâll read my message even if I donât respond right away.â
âSure, stay safe and away from crazy fans.â
âJules, you know we have a dye party set for when I get back. Iâll be fine.â
"Whatever loser."
So change of plans, Luka would get to see his favorite designing baker sooner rather than later which was fine by him. First he needed to wash off the plane smell and find his plain black hoodie, then he would surprise his girls. Plan in mind, Luka grabbed his shaving kit and started the shower. Shucking off his clothes and tossing them into the bag of dirty laundry he would need to do soon, the guitarist Stepped into the Shower to rinse off with Some body wash. Deciding his hair wasn't in need of a washing, Luka quickly got out and toweled off.Â
Luka watched as Marinette played with Llewellyn. The boy looked so happy to be running around the bakery and picking up speed now that he had some sweets to perk him up. It was kind of eerie to look at said child because Llewellyn was similar in looks to a younger Luka, it was definitely that fate had played a huge hand in guiding the boy to his family. The smiles on his sister's faces were definitely worth it and seeing him he hoped would bring an even bigger smile to them.Â
"Do you want to color a picture or have more cookies?" Marinette kneeled down to the little boy's height and smiled gently, hoping to ease the sudden anxiety he seemed to be feeling. It really pulled at the guitarist's heartstrings and his body moved to do what needed done before his brain had caught up with it. A soft tune slipped gently from the strings, sneaking by everyone as it blended in the background and caused little shoulders that were scrunched up to slowly relax and fall at ease. Two pairs of blue eyes sought his person but he pretended to not notice as he twined together the gentle melody with the heart songs of those sitting at the table sipping their drinks.
"Luka! You big meanie head!" Rose squealed and carefully tackled her brother in law from behind.
"Hey watch it now, Claire doesn't like the rough treatment."
"Oh hush you! Sneaky little meanie head." The petite blond hugged him even tighter.
"Well since you're here, can I get you anything to eat or drink?" The designer rose from her crouch and turned to the counter, slipping through the gap of the raised counter.
"Ah something warm please and maybe a macaroon or two."
"You got it!" Marinette spun around and reached to grab a mug from the shelf, her shirt sliding to reveal a hint of green and black on her pale skin.
"I uh hey Ma-ma-Marinette uh is that- its okay if I just have a plain cup! I just uh okay please don't punch me too hard but is that a tattoo?! " He could feel his cool factor dying at that moment.
Marinette dropped from her tiptoes to standing normally once more and Luka found he could breathe again as the tattoo went out of sight again. She had always been able to give him a heart attack and the guitarist could already hear the ribbing from his ever lovable sister.
"Oh! Yeah, it was a gift from Nona. You know Nathaniel and Marcâs comic? Itâs inspired by Viperion." The petite woman brought over some macaroons and his designated cup with Sabine's special blend. It was like a piece of home and Luka took a large gulp in excitement, "I tend to forget unless I'm in a swimsuit or in the shower."
"Oh Luka!" Rose cried, swatting at Juleka who was laughing and grabbed some napkins to help clean up the tea that her brother had spit everywhere.
"Hey who are you?" The small voice drew the adults attention.
"Well I am called many names but to you, I am Uncle Luka. Juleka is my sister."
âCapâtin says I look like a little you.â
âYeah a little bit but just means you were meant to meet us, maybe even be a part of our family if thatâs okay with you?â Lka smiled softly, watching the little blue eyes grow wide and a bit sparkly from tears. âWhatâs your favorite song?âÂ
âSmoke on the water.â
âOh good choice! And whatâs your name?â Luka started strumming the requested song, twisting the notes and improvising some notes as he watched the kid.
âLlewellyn, Iâm this many!â The small boy held up six fingers with a big smile.
âThatâs a big number.â
âNot as big as your number though⌠Why is your hair blue? Can I have green hair? Can I play guitar? How do you play it? Is it heavy? Can you sing too? Are you a rockstar? When Iâm big, can I be like you?â The young boy fired off, slightly catching Luka off guard and causing the women to laugh.
âSlow down speed racer, deep breath,â the guitarist inhaled slowly and evenly with Llewellyn and released the breath in the same manner before answering, ânow isn't that better? Blue is my favorite color, maybe we can have matching green hair for your party. Playing guitar can be tricky but if you want I can show you how, it can be heavy if you hold it too long but then you build up some muscles and itâs not so bad. I can sing but not as good as your Momma Rose. Iâm not a big rockstar but when I grow up more I hope to be. And Iâd like that but I doubt Momma Jules would like that too much, I drive her crazy.â
âAre you mean to her?â The small boy frowned, scooting back a few steps warily.
âNope, just silly and it drives your Ma crazy because it happens a lot.â Lukaâs honesty and resuming the plucking of his guitar strings to ease the sudden tension. Sharing a fond look with Juleka that they would later deny, the elder male lifted his guitar and removed the strap completely before sliding to the floor. Waving over the young look-alike, he helped to position the guitar and demonstrated how to strum and play different chords before letting the child noodle on the guitar. Luka picked himself up and finished his slightly cold tea before returning the mug to Marinette.
âHeâs so happy Luka! Just look at him!â Rose was sniffling and wiping away tears, the reality that Llewellyn was part of their family finally settling in.
âYeah he fits right in. So now that you found a mini me, with your attitude and shares a whole name with me, are you going to deny thatâs why you picked him?â
âNothing to deny.â Juleka wiped away a few stray tears from her wifeâs face and laced their fingers together. âIt was meant to be.â
âCalling dad out here Jules.â Luka quirked a brow, ignoring the snort his words caused.
âCalling B.S. huh? Fine, thatâs about ninety percent, the other ten is he looks like he could be your kid if a certain designer were the mom.â
His ears were full of cotton and he missed the squeak of surprise because of course, this was Juleka he was talking about, Marinette was coming up behind him and he froze. The slight curl to Llewellynâs hair was similar to his if he had it shorter, the blue eyes were lighter than his but the shape reminded him of Marinetteâs. And judging by the sly look in his sisterâs amber eyes and the giggles from his sister-in-law, they had planned this to drop that bomb at some point. Thatâs what he gets for having a nosy family.
âUnca Luka! My fingers hurt, how do you play for hours ?â Luka turned around as his nephew, that would take some getting used to, groaned.
âPractice and patience.â
âSounds like good advice for other things.â
âPractice and patience, two very very useful things when it comes to many things.â Luka tried to smile reassuringly at Marinette who was turning an even deeper shade of red and made his way back to Llewellyn, intent on ignoring his scheming sisters and spending the little bit of time left for the day bonding.

So RWBY/Justice League is apparently a crossover that's actually going to happen. Of the little we know right now, how do you think that's going to pan out?
Anonymous said: Those questions about Superman and Batman in RWBY seem prescient, because I'm hearing that an official crossover is in the works
Anonymous said: Um, so there's a legit Justice League/RWBY crossover coming
Anonymous said: So, that official DC/RWBY crossover, huh?
Anonymous said: So, how about that DC/RWBY cross, eh?
Anonymous said: No more speculating how Superman would fit into RWBY when DC themselves are providing their own answer XD
The immediate thing that leaps out beyond the Kingdom Hearts* level of utterly out of nowhere berserk this premise is: while the RWBY comic had a couple minor sequel hooks, and I donât know how it did in its original digital chapters or in trade, as a monthly periodical it was selling poorly enough that DC didnât bother to print its last physical issue after the return from the Coronavirus shutdown, and while I thought it was great a lot of fans complained about its art and characterization throughout. I hoped for that sequel, sure, but I wasnât expecting the book to be regarded internally as anything but a sales failure, nevermind not only continuing it but tripling down in the most extreme and bizarrely specific way possible thatâs neither intuitive (unless you have special interests like me) nor surface-level ridiculous enough like Batman/Elmer Fudd that people will buy it just to see how it works. I donât understand why this comic is happening when no one but me wanted this.
(* The Kingdom Hearts comparison is apt because they were similarly close to the top of things Iâd love to see cross over with the DCU that would obviously never, ever happen because thatâs too precise and random a combination of my interests. Even if this is legally possible where that isnât, that would still be conceptually simpler.)
I was asked a couple times in the past about how Superman or Batman could make sense in RWBYâs setting, and it turns out I was closer with the latter than the former - that rather than a dimension-hopping traditional crossover, this is reverse-engineering what the assorted members of the League would look like if they had always been part of Remnant ala JLA/Planetary, some of the old DC/Marvel crossovers, or the more recent Batman/The Shadow. Which actually fits really well with the series regularly evoking assorted fairy tales and mythologies with their characters; this bunch is just one more set to be added. Though that raises several more thoughts and questions:
* The solicit refers to them as Clark Kent, Bruce Wayne, and Diana Prince, but will they actually be referred to as such in the story, and will people comment on them not fitting with the color-based naming conventions of that world? Or will they be renamed and evoke their sources purely through iconography, ala Ruby not literally being Little Red Riding Hood?
* How much will the origins of the assorted characters be changed? Batman, Cyborg, and Aquaman would all make perfect sense within the ârulesâ of the setting with few major alterations, but will Superman still be from Krypton and Green Lantern a space ranger, or will they simply be ordinary humans with thematically reminiscent backstories and Semblances/weapons that evoke the classic powers? I think the latter could work, but I imagine the former is more likely (even if Bennett might keep it vague on some of the details to preserve the aura of mystique and avoid changing the shape of the world too radically) simply because everyoneâs surely aware that fans would complain about being âripped offâ for getting the characters âin name onlyâ otherwise.
* Speaking of changes to fit the setting, between being a Faunus and the apparent low-tech traditional armor look of his suit, is Bruce Wayne in here not operating from a position of wealth? Youâd just think as a given the Wayne family would be easily plopped in as business rivals to the Schnees and Alfred would be on a first name basis with Klein, but it seems Bennett might have something very different in mind. Also, little disappointing he simply has a katana rather than those collapsible batarangs that turn into swords that Ellis always gave him which would fit perfectly here. And, as so many have already asked: how miserable is he every second of every day in a world where everything is also a gun. At least this isnât a universe where anyoneâs gonna think heâs irresponsible for training teenage sidekicks.
* And if weâre going into individual characters: RWBY Barry Allen is adorable, what the hell. He just looks so dopey and hapless, I sure hope he doesnât ever have to die to stop the Anti-Monitor. Weâre definitely getting a meeting with Harriet that retcons in that heâs the other person with a speed Semblance she mentioned running into, and if heâs tapping into the Speed Force then the jokes that thatâs what Harriet does are probably gonna become at least a little bit canon.
* Are the Themyscirans magic, given all magic has a very important common root in this world?
* I donât think thereâs a dud redesign in the bunch? These are all really inspired in their own ways, which is good because unlikely as it seems this is I believe the first time weâve really gotten any sort of official interpretation of âhereâs what the DCU would look like as a Shonenâ. Go ahead and say the hell with it and make it Earth 28, Iâve thought before making that an anime Earth would fit with the map.
(By Ag_Nonsuch)
* Bunch of obvious ways these characters can play off of each other: Ruby is paralleled with Wonder Woman on the cover, and Iâm curious how Bennett will play that, but she makes most sense next to Flash, a super-fast fan made good, or Superman, a character she so deeply if unintentionally evokes on so many levels I felt I had to make clear when describing her that I didnât solely appreciate her as a psuedo-Superman analogue. Weiss makes sense up against Batman either as a wealthy heir or a Faunus whoâs likely faced his share of pain from the Schees who either way are cold perfectionists defined by inner pain stemming from their families, or Wonder Woman/Aquaman as fellow âroyaltyâ. Yang is paralleled with Superman on the cover and that makes sense with the two country bruisers with issues regarding their lost parents, though sheâd also make sense with Aquaman as the âtemperamentalâ members a lot of the time of their respective teams, or Cyborg as they both deal with their relationships with their bodies after requiring prosthesis. And Blake pretty much has her pick: like Superman she uses an article of clothing to âpassâ and shares the commitment to justice, she and Batman are dark children of privilege (or not in this case, though in this world theyâre both Faunus), she and Wonder Woman both left the island homes where their people were safe to try and make the rest of the world better, she and Aquaman are both Faunus royalty, and Green Lantern is about overcoming great fear and in Jessica Cruzâs case specifically about the guilt of running away.
* Will this be entirely flashbacks to the pre-series/Beacon years, or will those be flashbacks set from a âpresentâ, and if so when? What happened between the siege of Haven and the train setting off for Argus is the most loosely-defined period in the story and is right on the heels of the end of the original RWBY mini, so Iâd imagine it fitting here. And given they apparently join together âto take on a force unlike anything they've seen beforeâ rather than purely the character work of that previous book, what might that be?
* Hey, superhero comics/superpowers as an idea already exist in this universe, will that come up?
* If we can get one single scene in this and itâs going with a âyes theyâre still aliens and magic and whatnotâ premise I want Clark, who hasnât thought of being Superman yet and therefore is still at least somewhat hiding his powers, being wracked with guilt over not pursuing becoming a Huntsman and therefore not being there at the Fall of Beacon. Which is a ridiculous thing to take the blame for, but of course he would, heâs Clark, culminating in trying to apologize to JNR for Pyrrha dying he feels in part because he was a coward (when they donât even have the faintest concept for why he would think he should have been there or could have done anything).
* Once allâs said and done, how is their presence in the world justified as not being a factor in the series proper? Itâs simple if theyâre âordinaryâ analogues who can go off to quietly have adventures elsewhere, but if not then some of them either have to be shuffled off stage or presumably left with their stories incomplete, with a little afterward of âand they went on to be the greatest heroes of all...later, after the scope of team RWBYâs main adventures so that we never have to directly address them againâ to avoid them becoming unavoidable major factors in the war against Salem.
In the end, will it be DCâs best comic? No, though I imagine one of their better ones this year. Will it be among the ones I look forward to most each month? Right up there with Yang and Reisâs Batman/Superman baby, this is a miracle freak of fate and Iâm gonna appreciate the universe bending over backwards to make entertainment for me and me alone while it lasts. Given I finally checked out RWBY in the first place because I was curious about Bennettâs original comic, this is a heck of a full-circle moment.

How does Yang react to the rumors her lil sis has become a professor
Perspective :: Yang // Becoming - mod lilac [ main chapter ] [ P: Weiss ]
logo-comics asked: What about an AU where everyone had somehow been under the mistaken assumption that Ruby was a professor at Beacon? For a laugh, Ozpin rolls with it whenever he's asked about it.
// this perspective piece was harder to write than I thought. also trollpin - lilac
---
âIâll be sure to set aside an office for you, Professor,â the Headmaster spoke with mirth as he and Ruby spoke at Beaconâs courtyard, watching the students arrive for orientation.Â
âStop calling me that! I just wanted to know if students could have their own private rooms!â Ruby stomped on the ground.
âStudents, no. Professors, well...âÂ
âArgggh!âÂ
Yang was treated to the sight of her normally shy, bubbly sister hopping up and down angrily, pointing impolitely at the man thatâll soon be their Headmaster. Rubyâs uncharacteristic actions shocked her brain so thoroughly that she needed a moment to reboot. Â
âWait! Yang?!â Ruby exclaimed upon spotting her.
âHey, Ruby.â Yang replied dazedly before internally wincing at her unenthusiastic-sounding response - too shocked from her sisterâs prior actions.Â
Luckily though, Ruby didnât notice anything and was in fact enthusiastic enough for the both of them. Her sisterâs eyes lighting up was the only warning she got before she felt Ruby pounce onto her, the other girl wrapping her in a tight hug.Â
âYou made it!â Ruby happily said, âI missed you!âÂ
Yang couldnât help but hug her back smiling, not quite sure whatâs made the other girl so affectionate, especially in such a public showy way.Â
âI missed you too, sis,â she replied warmly, patting her head. Come to think of it these two months have been the longest theyâve been apart in years. Even when she took mini-missions at Signal to prepare for Beacon, the longest interval was 48 hours. Curious at her sisterâs sudden change, she asked, âYeesh, what happened to you over the past two months?"
"Eh, you know. Landed a blow on my teacher. Got myself blown up a couple times,â Ruby started counting on her fingers, âGot dangled out of a tower. Accidentally made a mess of things when I fought in a real team for the first time. Uhhh, not exactly in that order. â Ruby scrunched up her face, which made her laugh.
âSounds like youâve been having fun,â Yang replied with a grin, though she gave the girl a quick onceover to make sheâs truly alright - which it looked like she was.
âYup. At least when theyâre not sticking me in a classroom or hanging out with this old troll here,â Ruby resentfully gave the Headmaster a glare.
Yang choked on her spit at her sisterâs audacity.
âWhat did you say? Iâm hard of hearing, Professor Rose,â Ozpin blandly stated, âI think I heard someone asking me that she wanted to have her professorship announced tonight.â
âDonât you dare!âÂ
She listened as the two bickered back and forth. Well, more like Ozpin speaking and Ruby reacting. Hearing Ruby talk like this to an authority still frazzled her brain, and it was only Ruby saying something even more unusual that brought her out of her daze.
âAnd you still wonât tell me their name!âÂ
âHuh, whose name?â Yang asked reflexively, slightly worried about that little tidbit. Did oblivious-to-everything-but-weapons Ruby find someone she liked? At least someone will share Dadâs overbearingness when she started dating too. Ha.Â
âHis weaponâs name,â Ruby pointed at the cane Ozpin was holding. âHis cane. Itâs really something special, but you canât tell unless you get your hands on it.â She then smugly grinned, âwhich I managed.â
The Headmaster quirked up an eyebrow before retorting, âyou wrapped your hands and legs around it like a sloth and then refused to get off.â
âAND his weaponâs heavier than it looks but in a way I canât really describe - like something more than physical. And thereâs something like a heart ticking away, and itâs been ticking for a long time like an ancient clock,â Ruby said animatedly, her words speeding up with her excitement, âit's like watching one of those films before scroll technology or remembering a long memor-â
Well, at least some things didnât change - like Rubyâs weapon obsession.
"You know, itâs rude to talk about other peopleâs weapons without their permission, Prof-â Ozpin cut her off.
âAh, sorry, Headmaster,â Ruby bowed before lifting her head, âWait, stop calling me that!âÂ
She had been so focused on her sister that she missed the Headmaster tightening the grip on his cane and the quickly-hidden shock on his face.Â
======================================================
She couldnât move, her limbs locking under the beady red gaze of the Beowulf in front of her. It lifted its claw into the air, about to deliver its death sentence.Â
âDonât hurt my sis!â A small five year-old ran in front of her, placing herself between the claw and herself.
âRuby!âÂ
Somehow, someway, she found the strength to move. She stumbled onto her sister and wrapped her arms tight around her, turning away and preparing to protect the younger girl with her body. To protect her from the consequences of the mess she created. She closed her eyes, prepared for the pain.Â
------
Yang groaned and slowly opened her eyes, lifting herself up to look at the other students snoozing around her. Ugh, she would have that nightmare again before Initiation started tomorrow. Or was it today? Crap. Â
Sleepy eyes shut closed as she flopped back into her sleeping bag, waiting for oblivion to claim her. And for a minute or two, she managed to be still as a rock.Â
âArgh. Itâs useless.â She sat back up.Â
âShouldnât you be asleep?âÂ
The blonde quickly turned her head towards the raven-haired girl sitting by the windowsill, a book in her hands. Blake.Â
âCanât sleep obviously. What about you?â
âIâm used to staying up at night. Iâm reading an interesting book after all,â Blake replied cheekily.Â
Yang snorted, given that Blake had used that excuse to ignore her when she first tried to strike up a conversation.Â
âThe Schnee Dust Companyâs heir seems to have taken a liking to your sister,â Blake said casually, âIf it were me, Iâd treat it as a bad thing, but I guess itâs good to have someone's backing.â
âNah. I was listening in on that conversation. The moment that girl spoke about having an expert maintain her weapon was the moment she lost Ruby entirely,â she laughed.Â
The scathing look Ruby gave the Schnee Heiress couldâve peeled paint. If there was an equivalent of a horse whisperer for weapons, it was Ruby. But as much as Ruby had disdain for those who didnât respect their weapons, she wouldnât show it - at least the Ruby of two months ago. She wouldâve buried it deep inside and just be happy with the fact that someone was talking to her.Â
Yang sighed.Â
â...Ruby. Sheâs changed so much.â
âHow so?â Blake inquired, closing her book shut.Â
âHmm. Why so curious?â Yang pouted, holding her heart, âEspecially when you didnât want to hear anything about little old me?â
âWell, the opportunity to learn more about Beaconâs youngest professor is hard to pass up,â Blake then added playfully, âdonât worry. Youâre still interesting.â Â
âI thought the professor thing was a joke,â Yang said in confusion, âIsnât it?â
Was it though? She never heard Ruby outright deny it, just requested vehemently that the Headmaster not publicly announce it. Huh.
âI thought so too, but Rubyâs a bit special, isnât she? Early entry to Beacon, taking solo missions, acting super casual with the Headmaster,â Blake replied, looking over at her, âItâs hard not to wonder.â
âI donât think she is? I mean she wouldâve told me, her sister - but...â Yang hesitated, âsheâs changed a lot in the past two months. Itâs like I donât recognize my own sister anymore.â She grimaced, running a hand through her blonde bangs, âEver felt that way about someone youâve known for a long time and then bam what happened?â
Blake glanced outside the window and into the starry sky.Â
âYeah, I know a bit about that... But what about your sis? Might as well get it off your mind,â Blake sat crosslegged, staring expectantly and sincerely, clearly ready to listen.
With some hesitation, she glanced over at the sleeping girl several tables over with the Schnee girl sleeping a couple sleeping bags over, not quite ready to give up trying to recruit her. Good luck, brat. Â
âWell my sis didnât really have friends at Signal. Sheâs a loner but not really by choice. She tried so hard to fit in, but she never really clicked with anyone. No one really understood her or made the effort to.â Yang trailed off guiltily, âMaybe thatâs why she could make the decision to come to Beacon so easily, because she had no one.âÂ
âI... I kinda expected I would have to give her a pep talk when I came here,â Yang admitted, âbecause Beacon required its members to form a team, even more so than Signal. I thought I would have to cheer my sis on about how sheâll find the right team but also telling her that I canât be her partner and she needs to learn how to work with others.â
âBut instead I see a confident girl who no longer seems afraid to let others know who she is. I see a fish in water. I see someone whoâs found their place in life and is holding onto it with her own two hands. And also apparently making small talk and arguing with our Headmaster till sheâs red in the face. Ugh, I donât even know if sheâs a professor. âÂ
âWait, so you seriously donât know if your sisterâs a professor?â
âIs that the only thing you took out of this?â Yang dropped her jaw, appalled, âI just poured my heart out to you, Blake! You have to take responsibility.â
The ebony-haired girl flushed wonderfully at her choice of words before grumpily rebutting, âW-who asked you to do that?â
A moment of silence passed between them, neither of them knowing what to say.Â
It was Blake who broke the silence. âI think...youâre just having complicated feelings on seeing your younger sister grow up. I mean you seem like a good older sister, so youâve probably protected Ruby all this time. And now that she no longer needs your protection, you probably feel a bit lost but also a bit of pride too.â
âHuh,â Yang blinked several times pondering what Blake said for a couple seconds, and then she smiled, a bittersweet feeling in her heart, âI think youâre right. Iâm happy sheâs grown up, but I also kinda miss the girl whoâd cry when her weapon would go missing. Haha.âÂ
She then gazed playfully at Blake, âOh Blake, why are you so wise?â
âEh, I read it in a fortune cookie once,â Blake deadpanned without missing a beat.
âUgh, and somehow my reverence for you has been lost,â Yang sighed before smiling, âBut seriously, thanks for listening. Do you... Well... I heard you mentioned someone that you feel the same way about?â
Blake paused before shaking her head.Â
âAh, sorry. Itâs a long story, and itâs late, and...â Blake said before adding in a dramatic baritone, âyou havenât progressed enough on the Blake Belladonna social link to know about that yet.â She stuck her tongue out before turning over to the side to go to bed.
âOh come on! Pour your heart out to me now!â Yang said dramatically but upon seeing no response from the other girl, she snorted, âFine. Iâll get to bed, and Iâll totally unlock more of the Blake storyline in the future. Does it end in romance at least?â
âUgh. Iâm not dignifying that with an answer. Good night, Yang.â
Yang laughed.Â
-------
âAnd now even my sister thinks Iâm a professor!â Ruby wailed at Headmaster Ozpin, pointing a finger back at her. Yang could only give the Headmaster an apologetic grin - probably shouldve asked Ruby in a more subtle way - as Ruby ranted on, âAnd no one else believes me when I deny it. Thatâs your fault!â Ruby groused. Â
âDonât worry, Miss Rose. Iâll be sure to do something about the rumors this evening,â the Headmaster spoke warmly, âYou can walk back to your seat and see how I resolve this.â
As soon as Ruby sat down, Ozpin stood up tapping his glass with the back of his fork. All the students fell into silence upon noticing who was making the commotion, and all the attention quickly fell on him.
âAh-hem. I have an announcement to make,â Ozpin spoke calmly, âI would just like to say that Ruby Rose is not a professor at Beacon. The fact she is on a first name basis with all your professors or participated in a mysterious extracurricular activity two months prior to her entry to Beacon is completely irrelevant,â Ozpin continued on before pausing briefly, a spark of amusement in his eyes, âAnd I suppose the fact she graduated from Signal two years early is also not that important. That and her impeccable display with her team during Initiation. Alright, that is all. â
The man glanced over at Ruby, his gaze clearly asking âare you happy?â to the girl.
Ruby only beamed happily in satisfaction. Â
Oh my god.Â
Ruby was right.Â
Ozpin is a troll.Â
And she could only facepalm at Rubyâs complete obliviousness to the fact that Ozpinâs wishy-washy way of explaining things probably made things a lot worse.Â
Well, at least no one is going to call Ruby Professor to her face now.Â
Sometimes, ignorance is bliss. Â

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1990 Review: Still Possesses Turtle Power After All These Years
Cowabunga all you happy people! I freaking love the Teenage Ninja Turtles. I grew up with it from Turtles in Time, which was my first video game, to the 2003 cartoon, which I covered the first three episodes of last month, and on to present day as I re-read the idw comics after finally reading the original eastman and laird run of mirage, and impatiently waiting for Shredderâs Revenge to come out after a LONG drout of no good TMNT games. Iâm a fan of these heroes four, their dynamic as a family, the endless possiblities that come from itâs long history and ablitlity to go anywhere in any genre, and the wonderful goofy shit that happens when you have a franchise about mutant turtles learning ninjitsu from a rat and fighting a dude covered in knife covered samurai armor.Â
So with me finally covering the guys after almost a year last month and with a new movie set to debut at some point this year, I had the bright idea to revisit the FIRST TMNT movie after way too many years of not watching it. This movie is anear and dear to my heart: When I first started getting into the boys big as a kid with the 2003 cartoon, I badly wanted more turtles. But back then it wasnât nearly as easy to glom onto some more of the sewer shock pizza kings: Streaming sites with all the cartoons on them werenât all that accesable, dvdâs were expensive for the 87 cartoon, Mirage wasnât reprinting the comics in any meaningful way and my local comic shop didnât have any at all and I could only play the SNES when my brother had it set up on occasion like at our Grandmaâs farm.Â
As you probably guessed though there was one exception: the original 1990 movie, which I got at Walmart for 5 bucks and havenât let go of since. It was one of my first dvds and is still one of my most precious. Said film hit the spot just right as like my beloved 2003 series, it was a mildly goofy but still fucking cool adaptation that stuck closer to the mirage comics, even more than the 2003 series would, while taking a few queues from the 87 series. This film is as precious to me as the 2003 series and a with a brand new movie coming up, I figured it was the exact right time to dig into this classic: what makes it still good to this day, whatâs fun to point and laugh at, and how the heck Jim Henson got involved in this. So join me under the cut as I take a look at my boys first theatrical outing and why I still love watching a turtle.Â
No One Wanted To Make This: Before we get into the film itself some background. As usual I struggled a bit, but thankfully found some help in the form of this Hollywood Reporter article.  Itâs a fascinating read worth your time, providing an oral history of the film from the people who worked on it.Â
The film was the baby of Gary Propper, a surfer dude and road manager for the prop comic Gallagher, aka that guy who used to smash watermelons but now has instead opted to smash what littleâs left of his career by being a homophobic douchenozzle. He found an ally in Showtime producer Kim Dawson whoâd produced Gallagherâs special. I donât think there will be more of an 80â˛s sentence than âGallagherâs surfer dude agent wanted to make a teenage mutant ninja turtles movieâ. Propper was a huge fan of the comics, and with Dawsonâs help convinced Laird and Eastman to let them option it to studios.Â
It may come as a shock to you but the road agent for a homophobic watermelon man and a producer at a niche cable channel wanting to make a movie based on an underground comic book about masked turtles at a time when the two most recent comic book movies were Superman IV: The Quest for Peace and Howard the Duck, did not go well. Every door in Hollywood got slammed in their face, even Fox> Even the eventual backer of the film, Golden Harvest, a hong kong action film studio, took months to convince to actually back the film.Â
Things did not get easier from there: The films writer Bobby Herbeck had trouble getting a story agreed on because Kevin Eastman and Peter Lairdâs working relationship had deteroiated horribly from the stress so naturally the two could not agree on a damn thing and argued with each other. Peter Laird made a tense siutation even worse by constnatly sniping at Herbeck and feeling he was a âHollywood outsider infringing on his vision and charactersâ
Granted the script was apparently not great... but Pete still comes off as a pretnetious ass who views his weird indie comic as THE HIGHEST OF HIGH CALLINGS HOW DARE YOU SOIL IT. And continued to be kind of a prick like this throughout the rest of his time with the property.Â
Thankfully the film found iâts voice, vision and director in Steve Barron. Barron was a music video guy who knew the producers and while reluctant, eventually dove into the project rightfully thinking the film would need to be a mix of the mirage comics and 87 cartoon, keeping aprilsâ reporter job, the turtles lvoe of pizza and their iconic color coding from the cartoon but adapting several stories from the comics as the backbone of the film. The guys liked barron MUCH better and things ran smoother.Â
Barron also brought in one of the filmâs biggest selling points and itâs most valuable asset: itâs triumphantly awesome Jim Henson costumes. Barron had worked with good old Jim on the music videos for Labyrinth, and while it took some convincing since the comics were violent as hell and that wasnât Jimâs style, Barron eventually got him on board. This naturally doubled the budget, but given Hensonâs costumes STILL hold up today and look better than the cgi used in the platinum dunes films... it was a good call. And this was brand new tech for jim, having to invent tons of new ideas and mechanisms just to make the things work, and said things still were absolute hell on the actors. Jim later ended up not liking the film for being too violent... which I find hilarious given how many muppets got eaten or blowed up real good on his show but regardless, I thank this legendary and wonderful man as without him this film WOULD NOT have worked. The costumes here look great, feel realistic, and you canât tell the actors were dubbed much less horribly suffering in those suits. Much like Disney Land.Â
The film would get picked up for distribution by New Line, and despite iâts weird as hell origins and the long shot it had.. the film was a MASSIVE hit at the box office, owing to a combination of Batman 89 the previous year having proved comic book movies can work for audiences, the cartoonâs runaway sucess, and a massive marketing campaign. The film made itâs mark. So now we know how we got here letâs get into the film itself.Â
Whatâs the Story Morning Glory?:
So the story for this one is largely cobbled together from some of the more notable arcs Eastman and Laird did before handing off the book to others full time as the stress of the company and the mounting tension with each other made it near impossible to work together on the book itself.Â
To Save time iâm just going through what hte movie takes from the comics plot wise now to save me the trouble later:The movie takes elements from the first issue (The Turtles, Splinter and Shredderâs backstories, Shredder being fully human and the main antagonist, Shredderâs design and the final rooftop showdown that results in Shredderâs death), second and third, (Aprilâs apartment over her dadâs old store and the turtles moving in when their home is ransacked and splinter has gone missing), the rapheal micro series (A tounge in cheek way of cashing in on the Mini-Series craze of the 80s, a one shot by modern standards and something thatâs tragically been underused as an idea as only TMNT and MLP have used the idea at IDW, Raph meeting casey and their fight with one another), the return of shredder arc (One of the turtles being ambushed and mobbed by the foot and then thrown though a sky light (Leo in the comic and Raph here), the turtles being horribly outnumbered by them, Casey coming ot the rescue and metting the non-raph turtles for the first time, and them being forced to escape when the place goes up in flames), their exile to northampton (April writing in a journal, casey working on a car with one of the guys and one of hte guys looking over hteir injured brother), and finally, their triumphant return which was very loosely adapted as there are no deformed shredder clones and shredder not being dead yet in this version was not brought back by a colony of super science worms.Â
So as for how this all comes together: Our story takes place in New York: A crimewave is high with muggings mysterious. There are a ton of phantom thefts going around and at most people have been seeing teens responsibile. And the police.. are at about this level of useful:
The only person doing something is April OâNeil, played by Judith Hoag. Hoag is easily the standout of the film, giving us a strong, confident woman with a wonderful sense of humor. She honestly might be my faviorite April O Neil, and given weâve had some great ones with 2003, 2012 and Rise, thatâs not something I say lightly. I honestly wish Iâd recognized her in more stuff as she was both on Nashville and the mom in the Halloween Town films, and most recently was on the ScFy show the magicians. Sheâs a talented lady and iâm glad sheâs still goin.Â
April is a reporter for Channel 3 like the cartoon, though for some weird reason her boss from the cartoon is replaced by Charles Pennigton, played by Jay Patterson, whose currently dealing with his troubled son Danny, played by Micheal Turney. Pennington is horribly useless at both jobs: At work he tries to ease April off calling out Chief Sterns, who refuses to listen to Aprilâs evidence gathered from japanese immigrants that the crimes resemble similar ones in japan in favor of trying to get charles to shut her up. Danny meanwhile is a member of the foot becase his dad thinks shouting out him and talking about him like heâs not there and generally being a dipstick will actually do anything to help him.Â
I love the concept for the foot here. In addition to being a Ninja Violence Gang as always, they now recruit new members by finding kids without families or with troubled family lives and giving them a sense of family with the foot, and sweeting the bargin with a giant cave filled with arcade machines, a skate ramp and general late 80â˛s early 90â˛s kids goodies. Is it rediculous? Yes. Is it also clever as it gives Shredder an easy army of plausably deniable theives that he can pick the best out of to put in his elite that will be tirelessly loyal to him and him alone? Also yes.Â
So April being public about this stuff gets her attacked, which naturally leads to our heroes coming in, first in the shadows and later directly when April wontâ give up on the case and Shredder sends some ninjas to go shut her up.. which he does weirdly as the guy jsut slaps her and tells her to cut it out like heâs on a domestically abusive episode of Full House. Raph saves her, and we get the turtles origin.. though weirdly they cut it in half. We get the ooze portion but Splinterâs past with Saki, Sakiâs murder of his master and his masterâs partern Tang Shen is left for later in the film and the fact Shredderâs saki is treated as a big twist despite the fact the biggest audience for the film would be kids... and kids wouldâve been familiar with the cartoon where the giant brain monster routinely screeches out saki at the shredder. Maybe Barron just thought he was an alcoholic I donât know. It just wouldâve made more sense to have it all at once and let the audeince put it together.Â
April becomes good friends with the turtles over a night of frozen pizza and camradrie, but the Splinters return home to find it ransacked, Splinter kidnapped by the foot, and are forced to Stay with april. Charles meanwhile tries to get April to backoff because he made a deal with the police to clear Dannyâs record, without TELLING her any of this mind you, but I will save my rage on that little plot point for in a bit as Danny who he drug along sees the turtles and tells the Shredder.Â
So we get the return of the shredder arc as Raph goes through a window, our heroes fight valiantly, and Raphâs friend Casey who he met earlier shows up, the two having bonded as all true friends do.. by beating the shit out of each other ending with raph shouting DAMNNNNNNN really big and dramatically into the sky for some reason. The Turtles and friends escape with an injured raph from Aprilâs burning second hand store. She had a second hand store it was poorly established and only there because she had it in the comics.Â
Our heroes retreat to a farm Aprilâs grandma owned in Northampton, Massachutes, where Mirage was located at the time the original comics where they were exiled to the place were written and a location that has been a staple of the turtles ever since. The turtles slowly recover, lick their wounds, talk about who hooked up with who on gilligans island etc, before Leo connects with Splinter via meditation, who tells them to come back. Splinter also starts to connect with Danny and convinces him to swtich sides.. or at the very least squat in the boys old home.Â
The boys return home, find danny, and prepare, Danny goes back and ends up giving away the Turtles are home.. but the turtles are ready and in an awesome sequence kick the fuck out of the foot squad sent for them with some well prepared steam vents. Casey goes to get splinter since Danny told them and with Dannyâs help, finds him, since Danny found out they were gonna kill him. Casey beats up Tatsu, shredderâs right hand man, and they get him out.Â
We get our final fight which is awesome up until the climax.. which is splinter casually tripping shredder with nunchucks and thier bloody history being kind of rushed and unsatsifying. Casey crushes shredder with a garbage truck, April gets her job back, more on that in a moment, she and casey hook up, and we end with the fucking awesome song T-U-R-T-L-E Power by partners in cryme. Seriously check it out itâs fucking triumphant.Â
youtube
The song is just good.. cheesy? Sure but thatâs half the fun. Itâs the gold standard for movie theme songs for them and stacks up handily with the various animated series themes.. all of which slap. Okay... ALMOST all of which slap. Fast Forwards is aggressively medicore, which is doubly suprising to me since 4kids was REALLY damn good with theme songs. It was one of the three things they were best at along with finding VERY talented voice actors and setting japan based works in america because merica dammit. Â
The plot is very solid: It skilfully packed half of eastman and lairdâs run on TMNT into 90 mintues while adding things like Aprilâs job at channel 9, the way the foot recurited kids etc. The plot flows well for hte most part and apart from one annoying subplot weâll get to never has a moment that feel unecessary or dosenât pay off later. And the stellar plot and fun pacing of it helps boilster the characters that do work... and help paper over the ones that are so thin theâyd fall down a grate...
Our Heroes, Villains and Annoying Middle Aged Guys:
Yeahhhh character is hit and miss here. Some are rather strong, others are the bare basics for the character their adapting and most are just to serve the plot but some work some donât, So letâs talk about it starting with our boys:
Raph is the most fleshed out of the turtles, being the main focus of the first 2/3 of the film, and having his anger be part of what SHOULD be a character arc, learning to temper it. And while granted MOST TMNT properties do this, to the point that Rise Raph is so loveable in part because his boisterous bruiser big bro attitude is a refreshing break from the usual grumpus we get. But at the time this hadnât been done in every version but the 87 cartoon, so exploring it was valid.. but despite saying this should be a thing htey just forget about it and the most plot relevance he gets is going thorugh a window. He dosenât really get a resolution.. his arc just kind of stops dead for the final half and itâs one of the filmâs weaker points, one I only just now noticed on this rewatch. Heâs still the most entertaining.Â
Leo is the weakest of the turtles. He really lacks a personality here mostly just being leader and while his spirtual side is touched on, itâs mostly a plot device. Heâs just kinda the leader because he was in the comics to the point Partners in Cryme called Raph the leader. His role in getting taken out by the foot was taken by Raph, so he just has.. nothing to do for most of the film other than gripe at raph ocasionally and say orders. Heâs probably the worst Leo iâve seen outside of Next Mutation. I prefice that because after watching Phelousâ review itâs VERY clear those four are the worst versions of the characters, and no personality is still better than either having your team do nothing or yelling at them as your personality. I chalk this up to the Mirage Leo, and the mirage turtles to a poit being kind of bland. Not TERRIBLE characters, especially for the time, but not nearly as fleshed out or individualized as they woudl be in other adpatations, and with most traits LEo DID have, like his badassery flat out gone, heâs just.. nothing here.Â
Mikey and Donnie are a double act here with both sharing a brain. Interestingly instead of his normal genius character, Donnie is Mikeyâs best friend and the two simply trade jokes and schtick together. The two are interchangable.. but easily the best part of the film and a lot of the most memorable gags and lines, from Ninja Kick the Damn Rabbit! to âDo you like Penicllin on your pizzaâ, are from them. Thier there almost entirely as comic relief but it works, with both clealry being more modled ont he 87 cartoon turtles, a move that helps lighten the mood in darker moments. Their just genuinely charming and itâs intresting to see such a diffrent version of Donnie, and other incarnations, specifically the 2003 and Rise versions, would retain the sarcastic edge.Â
Splinter is splinter. Thatâs about it, heâs peformed well and the puppet is amazing but he gets kidnapped a half an hour in and outside of influcencing Denny, more on that in a moment, and finishing Shredder he dosenât do much but spout exposition. Heâs not bad or anything, but heâs essentially a rodent shaped plot device. He was also puppeted by Kevin CLash, aka the guy who does Elmo. So there you go.Â
April on the other hand.. is truly excellent. This might be my faviorite April. Judithâs april nicely blends the cartoon and mirage versions: She has the cartoons energy and job, but the comics sheer will and casual nature. Judith just oozes personality and her April is just a joy to watch, from her breezy chemistry filled interactions with the guys to her confrntation with Chief Sterns, knowing sheâll get thrown out by the asshole. Sheâs confident, and even when afraid dosenât back down to her attackers and even helps out during the sewer ambush. I mean itâs a pot on the head but still itâs neat. Sheâs easily the best part of the flim and the most fleshed out of the cast. The worst I can say is they kinda shove her store from the comics, Second Time Around, in there for no other reason than it was in the comics: It dosenât come up until itâs needed for the footâs assault on her place. But overall.. sheâs just fantastic to watch.Â
Speaking of fantastic to watch, Elias Koteas is fantastic as Casey. Seriously heâs only second to the 2003 version in my eyes, getting the concept of a testorone filled average guy who decided to just go out and hit people with sports equipment after watching too much A-Team.. I mean that part of itâs not in this version but itâs implied, just right. Like judith, Elias is just really funny to watch and his big scenes, showing up just in time during the foot assault on aprilâs place and his fight with Tatsu are some of the best parts of the film, the former taken directly from the comics. This version isnât without problems: His friendship with Raph, his most endearing aspect and one that has been carried throughout eveyr version Caseyâs important, with the only exception so far being rise and we have a movie to fix that, is absent here. HE does save the guy, but they donât really bond or anything. In fact he disappears for about half an hour after his big fight with Raph. But... again heâs just so damn entertaining, down to his JOSEEEEEEEEEEE Conseco bats (There was a two for one sale!).
Shredder is just a LITTLE better than splinter, if only because his actor projects a true aura of menace and I feel this version had some influence on the pants crappingly terrifying 2003 version. And the idea of the foot recurting teenagers like I said is a good one: He gives them home and a cause, they give him plausably deniable backup. And his fight with the boys in the climax is really awesome... the conclusion sucks but otherwise hâes okay. Not the deepest villian, but he has enough presence to be enjoyable.
His right hand man Tatsu, whose been adapted ocasionally since this and reimaigned as Natsu in the IDW comics, a female version, is also fine. Heâs your standard grimacing goon but has enough presence to work.Â
So that brings us to the penningtons. Charles, aprilâs boss at the station and his son Danny whoâs joined the foot as he feels his dad dosenât love him. Charles..is about as interesting and likeable as a dog turd and is the worst aspect of the film. No debate there, he just sucks. He sucks so hard heâs classified as a black hole. The film wants you to see him as a put upon wokring dad whose frustrated with his sonâs increased moodiness, skipping school and crminal undertakings and just wants to help him and loves him deep down. The problem is his actorâs delivery instead of concerned.. is just pissed. He just seems pissy and upset about the whole thing and comes off like heâs only mad about Danny doing this because heâs embarassing him and not because you know, itâs bad. When confronting Danny about stealing, he dosenât consider MAYBE heâs part of a gang or needs help, but just wonders âWhy are you stealing when I give you stuffâ. Because, Dipshit, sometimes kids do crimes not because they need the stuff but because they WANT to, and because they want to act the fuck out.Â
The most he does for the kid is agree to try and get April to back off the police when Cheif Sterns offers to let Danny go and not put him on record in exchange for it. The problem.. is this makes him even MORE unsympathetic. While I do get wanting to help your child, I do and itâs a sucky position... he again should be sympathetic.. but he handles the thing so badly it sucks. He just tells april to ease off, with no reason given, then fires her when she SHOCKINGLY dosenât give up taking the guy whose refusing to take her hard work seriously or actually solve the crime wave problem to task for his shitty behavior as ANY person facing a shitty, corrput cop would. She just wants to hold him acountable and get him to actually do something. He clearly knows her on a personal level too as he talks about his issues with his son freely with her, something you donât do with an employee unless their also a friend on some level.Â
He could have TOLD april what was going on. Sheâd be furious at Sternâs naked corrpution and prioritizing shutting her up over actually solving crimes.. and thus put at least some of that energy into shutting him down or finding a way around it, going to the papers or something like that. Even in 1990 pre-internet, there were ways to get around Sterns blackmail and expose him so someone whoâd actually do the job could get the job. Instead he just comes off as a selfish coward who rather than try and fight the guy blatantly abusing his power and using Charles own son as barganing chip, goes along with it because itâs the easier option to simply bow to him instead of TRY and stop this. And itâs not like heâs even going after a beloved public figure or someone who could hide behind his rep: Sterns was blatantly failing a crime wave, April had called him out on his failrues and coverups multiple times. The public was against sterns.. finding out he tried to blackmail the media into shutting up about him would PROBABLY end him... I only say probably not because the public wouldnât skewer him, but because police tend to escape consequences for blatantly murdering someone on a daily basis and Andrew Cumo is STILl mayor over in new york, the same city this movie takes place, 31 years later, depsite EVERYONE asking him to resign over a long history of sexual harassment and a more recent but still horrible history of hiding death numbers. I donât doubt people being stupid enough to ignore this or the bilaws with cops being stacked enough for him to get away with it, but just because someone gets away with a crime dosenât mean you shoudlnât try and go after them in the first place. Fuck. Charles. Pennington.Â
Danny on the other hand is FAR more interesting and I think gets way too much flack when it comes to this subplot. Unlike his dad, whose dead weight, Danny is intresting: He provides a POV character for the footâs MO in the film of taking in wayward teens, and his character arc is pretty engaging, slowly realizing the foot dosenât care and that hte turtles are the good guys. HIs actor does a great job and while not the biggest presence, heâs not a bad addition to clan hamaoto and I wish other adaptations would find a way to use him. The pull between doing the right thing and his found family is a good struggle. My only real issue with his plot is the moviies flawed aseop about family. It tries to contrast shredder and his using the kids blatnatly with Splinter and Charles really loving their sons. And it works with Splinter and the kids because despite being a tad strict, Splinter clearly loves his sons and works with them to help them. The problem is ENTIRELY with Charles and Danny. As I said Charles love comes off as transasctional: He either thinks he can buy it or just expects it because he shot a bunch of goop into Dannyâs mom after two minutes of disapointment. It dosenât work with them because neither option is good for Danny. His father is neglectful, chooses throwing his jounralistic integrity out the window over talking to his son or his best friend about another way, and abrasive. Danny is no saint, he does do crimes, but itâs clearly a result of a shitty upbringing and the shredder and co actually offeirng him the love he desperatly craves. Danny goes to the foot because his dad is bad at his job but the film never adresses that and just expects Danny to go back to his dad because the plot says so. Danny would HONESTLY be better off with Splinter. No really. Sure heâd have to live in the sewers.. but he did so for a few weeks in the course of the movie. Heâs fine down there. Splitner actually cares about him and took an intrest to him and knows how to raise a child. Let him become the fifth turtle. An aseop about family is not a bad thing: Loaded subject that it can be given how many outright abusive families exist, iâm one of the lucky ones who dosenât have that issue, family is an important thing and can be a source of comfort and support. But this film tells you you should love and respect someone who does not love, respect or value you because he spent a minute in your momâs vagina and thatâs not how family should work and is outright dangerous to kids in an abusive situation. Love the film otherwise but fuck this aseop skyhigh.Â
Final thoughts:
Overall though.. the film is bodacious. Itâs funny, well paced, has an awesome cast, and outside of a certain bald asswipe... itâs a really good superhero film. Is it the best iâve seen? Nope. Not even close and character wise most of them are as thin as a wet paper bag covered in ranch dressing. But itâs still a fun as hell with awesome corepgraphy, a killer soundtrack, seriously the soundtrack is damn excellent and only didnât get itâs own section because I didnât have enough to say and some of the best effects work iâve seen in a film in the turtle suits. If you havenât seen it I urge you to check it out: itâs a breezy 90 minutes, itâs on hbo max and itâs a shell of a time. Will I do the next film?Â
Weâll see how this one does like wise and such, but I will be doing the rise film whenever it comes out this year. So look for that and keep possesing turtle power my dudes. If you liked this review subscirbe for more, join my patreon to keep this blog a chugging, comission a review if you have more turtle stuff you want me to cover, and comment on this. What do you think of the movie, what are your thoughts on the review, what can I do better, what other turtle stuff would you like me to cover/ Let me know and iâll see you at hte next rainbow.Â

Meeting and Dating Tim Sullivan
(My gif)(Requested by anonymous)
(This movie was genuinely amazing. Thank you for bringing it to my attention.)
- There isnât an exact memory that you can recall when explaining how you met Tim. It was probably some time around the first grade; you knew youâd gone to the same school since then. You also knew that youâd drifted in and out of each otherâs lives; through being placed in the same classes, after that.
- Regardless, you and him werenât close, not for a long time at least. You were aware of each otherâs existence sure, but only as peers, passing faces on the classroom or hallway.
- It wasnât until around the seventh grade that you actually became acquainted. It was around that time that you started using your allowance to visit the comic stand after school. That was where Tim first became interested in you, him and the other; at the time, two boys.
- Youâd just finished buying an issue and were beginning to walk home when him and his friends rolled up on their bikes. You glanced at them for a moment as you continued to walk, noticing that their eyes moved from the comic in your hands to your face in surprise. You paid it no mind.
- You were the topic of conversation for nearly an hour. They voiced their disbelief, then made some raunchy comments, and then, they trailed off with an earnest âmaybe we should, I donât know, ask if she wants to hang out or something.â.
- They were kind of at a loss; a pretty girl who likes comics was a weeks worth of soapy rag material. They all just stopped mentioning you and moved onto a different topic after that.
- The next day, the boys lingered at the front entrance, pretending like they werenât watching you as you walked towards the school, pausing as you waited for the first bell to ring.
âWell, is anybody gonna go talk to her?â Tim had been the first one to speak. Everyone remained silent and he scoffed. âFine you pansies, Iâll do it.â
- As you can imagine, you were a bit surprised to be approached by the boy as you leaned against the school gate. You politely returned his greeting before glancing back at the school awkwardly.
âSo...swamp thing, huh?â
-The comment threw you for a loop until you remembered the previous day. Nodding, you expressed your interest in the comic and asked if he was a fan as well, prompting a mini conversation that was interrupted by the bell ringing.
- Just before the two of you said goodbye, he invited you to hang out with him and his friends after school, an offer you awkwardly; somewhat, accepted as you began to walk inside.
âYeah, I mean that should be fine. âŚSee ya.â
- They waited for you in front of the school after classes let out, debating with each other on whether they should just go as you were a bit late. Thankfully though, you showed up at just the right time, apologizing and explaining that Assumpta had kept you late to help her after class.
- They all sweetly assured you that it was fine, as though half of them werenât just planning on ditching you. And thus, you began your journey to their usual hangout and your subsequent friendship with the group of boys.
- Fast forward a year or so, youâre a certified member of the group, contributor to the comic, and Tim's âsecretâ crush. Everyone in the group besides you knows that he has a thing for you and itâs one of the few things they can actually make fun of him for.
- Itâs around that time that you realize you like him too and; unable to deal with your sudden feelings, start acting all quiet and sort of weird around him. He takes notice of your hesitance to be alone with him and your odd behavior and the next time you wind up alone together, he asks you about it. You insist that nothing is wrong and he starts to badger you.Â
- One thing leads to another and soon enough youâre wrestling each other around the room. After a bit of struggling, you manage to pin him down, angrily telling him to shut up as you straddle his torso. Both your chests are heaving as you stare down at him and he stares up at you. You stay like that for a long, quiet moment before you climb off of him, grabbing your things and booking it out of your gangs little hideout.Â
- He lays on the floor for a while before he leaves as well, showing up at your house later that day and acting like nothing happened, convincing you to come do something with him. In an effort to forget about what happened and just smooth things over, you agree.Â
- Soon enough, everything is back to normal, but after a while of the two of you busying yourselves with whatever it is you were doing, silence falls upon you and he asks if you âwant to talk about itâ.Â
- You tell him you like a guy and he nods, his heart clenching in his chest as he teases you lightly. He asks you who it is and you remain quiet. He nudges you with his shoulder and begins to teasingly pester you until you tell him itâs someone in your group. You cant even begin to imagine how shitty that makes him feel.Â
âFrancis?â He asks, almost as though he already knows the answer. Your denying it genuinely surprises him. âWade?â Wrong again.â...Joey?â he asks as though itâs the most unbelievable thing heâs ever heard. You shake your head without looking at him.Â
âThen...,â The two of you sit in silence as it dawns on him. You remain silent when he finally, tentatively asks âMe?â
âCan I kiss you?â You turn your head to look at him before slowly nodding, a small smile threatens to pull at his lips as he leans in.
- His hand hovers at the side of your face as he softly presses his lips to yours. When you break apart, you look into each others eyes for a long moment before his hand finally touches your skin and he kisses you again; this time with more confidence.Â
- The two of you spend the rest of the day stealing kisses and wandering around the overgrown and abandoned parts of town. You suppose you could consider this your first date, mainly because itâs so similar to what you usually do for âdatesâ.Â
- And thus, you begin your relationship with the rebellious alter boy.Â
- Not a lot of Pda happens in your relationship. Youâre both sorta young and inexperienced so thereâs that constant âshould I, shouldnât Iâ internal debate when it comes to affection. Most of the time, he leans towards the âwait until youâre aloneâ side of things.
- That being said, when you are alone, heâs much more willing to be affectionate; albeit it with a bit of juvenile hesitance.
- While he certainly wouldnât mind feeling you up, heâs sort of more interested in the innocent aspects of romance. He isnât really in a huge rush to âmake itâ with you; he likes kissing and hugging just fine.
- Shoulder kisses.
- Soft, sorta slow kisses. When you first got together, you hadnât expected him to be so ...sweet when he kissed you. You expected hard and quick but you were pleasantly surprised.
- Makeout sessions.
- Kissing you is therapeutic for him. Whenever he just wants to get away from the world, he likes to lean over and press his lips to yours.
- He likes to be the big spoon and nuzzle his forehead into your hair/back of your neck. With that being said, he can cuddle in just about any position the place youâre in will allow.
- He likes your odd quirks, he thinks they make you cool. Youâre out of the ordinary and so is he; you make a good couple.
- Constant teasing.
- As much as he likes to tease you, he likes to compliment you just as much. Heâs always eager to tell you when you do something well, insisting that you do or that itâs true when you try to brush off his praise.
- He gives you a specific nickname, something that only he would ever call you. He likes having that special little connection.
- Getting notes sent to you. Excuse me, poems with notes at the end.
-Â Heâs obviously got a pretty rough home life and has dealt with some tough shit over the past few years. He doesnât really like talking about it so you just have to be there for him when he wants to hang out and get away from it all; though heâs sort of used to it by now.
- He doesnât invite you over a lot, for obvious reasons.
- Sneaking out at night to go hang out with him.
- Spending hours together. The two of you are out of your houses from early in the morning to late at night whenever you can be.
- You act like really close friends more than you do a couple at times, most people at your school sort of assume youâre just friends because of it.
- The two of you sort of just hang out together rather than go out on typical dates.
- Reading comics. He likes either lying his head on your shoulder or having you lay your head on his.
- Riding your bikes together.
- Dates at abandoned buildings.
- Walking through the woods and marshes together.
- Skinny dipping/swimming in the lakes of your town.
- Cloud gazing. You lay together and just stare at the sky.
- Youâve significantly lowered his need to make trouble since youâre always there when heâs bored. Does he want to go destroy something or kiss you? Its a hard decision.
- Deep, sometimes dark conversations. Heâs been forced to grow up sort of quickly and because of that he knows just how cruel the world can be. Sometimes, he just canât help but talk to you about it and, sometimes without even realizing it, ruin your wall of innocence and naivety.
- Dark humor and morbid jokes. Heâs a sick monkey.
- Whenever he gets a cut, scrape or bruise, heâll always teasingly ask you to kiss it. He tells himself that heâs just messing with you but whenever you actually do do it, heâs both flustered and pleased.
- I feel like Tim would use any injury he gets to draw your attention to him, even if it really doesnt hurt that much. It would be especially common before the two of you started dating. He just likes having you focused on him and touching him gently.
- Drawing and writing on his cast.
- Helping him with his pranks. He always tells you that he canât do it without you; he knows that it breaks your resolve.
- Heâs an adrenaline junkie; he likes dangerous stunts and getting his heart racing so expect to be involved in a few scenarios that would give your parents a heart attack.
- Getting high/drunk with him or just dealing with him while heâs high/drunk. Donât worry, heâs usually pretty mellow, especially when he gets high.
- He can notice when somethingâs wrong and will always ask âwhats the matter with youâ. Heâs usually pretty good at making you feel better, even if itâs just by saying something stupid and not judging you.
- Just a fair warning, you shouldnât trust him with secrets that involve people he knows or involves something that he might just so happen to leak into a conversation.
- Tim hates being ignored, mainly because hes so ignored at home. He always gets sorta angry/upset when you donât give him attention.
- He can get really jealous in certain situations though heâs just a jealous person in general. Itâs primarily because he cares about you so much and doesnt want to take a chance on having the one real good thing in his life leaving him.
- Heâs not necessarily protective but he is caring. Heâs always looking after you, even when youâre fighting or angry with each other. He doesnât ever want anything happening to you.
- Arenât you even gonna ask me if Iâm pissed? I wouldnât say Tim has a short temper but certain things do make him really angry and will cause the two of you to fight. He doesnât yell, he hates yelling, but he will say the occasional insulting thing or tell you; very seriously, not to do something ever again.
- That being said, he calms down very quickly and remains calm if youâre the one whoâs upset. He earnestly asks if you want to talk about it when you seem to just be upset because of something else, even if you just tore into him.
- He always tries to just ignore the fact that youâve been fighting and move on, smoothing things over like they never happened. He doesnât need an apology but if he thinks you deserve one, heâll give it to you.
- He doesnât tell you he loves you very often but heâll occasionally surprise you with one, usually when you least expect it or when heâs really thinking about how much you mean to him and how well you treat him.
- Tim doesnât talk about the future with you very often, sometimes heâll mention something he wants to do in life or jokingly talk about what youâre gonna do together but thatâs about it.
- As awful as his parents marriage is, it surprisingly hasnât ruined his view on the matter. He; very maturely, tells himself that heâll never be like them and that when; not if, the two of you get married, youâll be so much better.
