if you wanna indulge me, id love to hear your opinions on sing (all of mine are detractory which i know isnt the complete view of the song)

omg id love too!! sorry this took me a sec to formulate post-work haha. i know we don't agree about sing but honestly that's the beauty of music opinions- I feel like it becomes easier to define what I like about things when faced with legit measured criticism anyway

for me, i want to start with the structure and instrumental since it's usually not mentioned (most of the criticisms of sing are exclusively lyrical or intention-focused). it's so cool. and evocative. and full of tension!! my favorite use of synth on danger days, plus the keys and the drums (man i love the dd studio musician drums lmao), really emphasizes sing as a suspended moment both in the album (necessary bridge, tonally, between bulletproof and planetary imo) and in the track itself- its alllll building up to that bridge and final chorus. but there's all these little pieces- the backing vocals, there's so many hidden guitar parts that riff just under all the noise, that opening like, tambourine. sorry for not having a quote on hand but Ray's said he really loved writing sing and it's so totally obvious to me. especially live- part of the reason I was soooooo excited for sing swarm tour edition is that even during dd ray was like absolutely shredding for sing after the bridge. and everytime time it's so good. part of the reason the lyrics don't bother me is sing could stand alone instrumentally and I'd still want to listen to it. (sing also reminds me of Ray's solo music- the sentiment is more significant that the lyrics and the music is itself a vehicle for storytelling)

also though, i think there's a lot of intention with sing (it's up to the listener to determine if that paid off obv) but within the context of dd the record as a pirate radio station, sing has always read as a trojan horse song. making it a single too, like once a song takes on a life of its own outside the record there's new meaning and circumstance. so both within and outside the killjoy universe sing is a vehicle for not just the bridge but the overall sentiment of dd (how fucking excited was gerard when glenn beck took the glee bait) like, yes, i do agree they could've benefited from another pass over the lyrics (i will always defend keeping "sing it till your nuts" bc its sounds like sing it to your nuts though) but I don't personally get the criticism that sing isn't "specific enough" about what exactly it's against or is too optimistic about "sing it for the world"-- i think there are songs on the album (notably planetary right after it!) which do that job just fine. dd is gerard in arguably top lyrical form so theres a lot of meat in the rest of the record like. sing it for the world is a purposely simplistic art is the weapon. like those are the same sentiments rendered very differently!

also like. i do think there was a very directed target at the younger part of their fan base here (girl/boy) which is sweet. to me. like i did hear sing first when i was a young teen (one of the few dd songs i was familiar with) and it did feel huge and empowering at that moment. my chem are their best when they are navigating the dualities of their specific fame, which includes simultaneously making very serious, adult rock music which is concerned with violence death grief and sex, as well as being a role model for younger people and taking them seriously and neither of these are in rhetorical conflict with each other. so like whatever sing is a little juvenile. but it's still filled with passion! taken as a legitimate project with a creative instrumental and a narratively-driven music video. I like that aspect, it works for me. I'll never call it my favorite my chem song but its certainly not the worst when you add in the bridge (i wanted to prove my point without the bridge but like. damn!! it's a good bridge!!!). that's my spiel.

Thanks for tagging me @eternallaughter! I also wouldn't consider myself a fic writer. I am a fic reader and a fic imaginer who very occasionally actually wrangles one out of her brain onto the page (screen).

1. How many works do you have on AO3?

14! I'm shocked the number is that high every time.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count?

El you have over double my wordcount with fewer than half my fics haha. Sigh, the only ideas I ever finish/post are the short ones.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Kind of none right now. I always have things floating around in my head and notes apps but I wouldn't say I'm actively writing any of them right now. Though I do want to finish my ... 3? Yuumori wips because they actually have promise and I want to read them finished *sob*.

Phone Calls is the one (1) MCD fic I've written so... probably that? It's either that or Mirror, Tell Me Something which is an angsty character-study thing. (or we can say Tale as Old as Time which is angsty because the last part published was angsty and also because I will never finish it)

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Probably Eighth Note because Stagger is happy with two dads.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I don't think so. Thankfully. No one should get hate on their fics.

I have posted a vague-masturbation fic, but other than that smut hasn't crossed over from the WIP world (yet. That Fibonacci sequence, man...)

ohohoh I'm so down for this! This'll be a bit long (ty for letting me infodump a bit heheheh) so putting this one alllll under the cut.

1 - Who was your first ever OC? Do you still “use” them? How have they evolved over time? My first OC TECHNICALLY was this green mouse I just called "super mouse" and I made him when I was roughly 7 or 8? I dont use him anymore but he was based on a green plastic mouse toy from the old board game "mouse trap". I took the little figure everywhere, turned him into a lil superhero and I even have a little notebook to this day of little saturday morning cartoon-like adventures I drew and wrote him in. 13 - Which story has the most lore? CURRENTLY it's definitely Spark of the Eye, or "SOTE" as I've been calling it. By technicality if we're speaking worldbuilding/world lore based, it'd probably be any story in my Zodior settings (zodior being a world I made up when I was about 9 years old and have been developing gradually ever since.) SOTE is not related to Zodior in any way, but I've definitely been putting a LOT of thought and planning into it since it's initial concepting. 15 - How many projects do you have going on right now? Are there any that you doubt you’ll ever finish? I have many in limbo/progress but currently I'm focusing almost all of my energy on SOTE. I tend to bounce between story to story in bouts of fixation, but this is one of those stories that's really captivated me and has kept its grip on me for a long time, and I'm more drawn to it than I've ever been to any story I've worked on so far, solo. There's maybe one or two that I'm a little wishy washy on, and I've definitely been known to scrap ideas and entire stories before, but if I ever do that I keep scraps of it and use it for other stories. Nothing is ever truly wasted to me! The time I spent on them was still fun for me and I still got to make some cool character designs or fun concepts to use elsewhere, even if nothing ever sees the light of day from those old projects. 18 - Describe the setting of one or more of your wips I feel like I could mention the setting of SOTE, but currently the majority of the setting takes place mostly in space. We see different planets and societies though, including the Ikartan (Izarri's race) planet + ringworld society surrounding them! The surface of their planet, even if we dont see much of it, is very stormy almost to a cataclysmic level. Living down there is hellish but they do have structures and technology built to withstand these harsh conditions. This is actually something we wont see a TON of ironically. Most of their resources went into building the ringworld, a massive artificial structure that is a literal man-made ring around the planet. It's got a ton of space but it's still limited; most of ikartan society resides on this ringworld. This species is very passive and even skittish with branching out to other worlds, and they dont make connections with other alien species very often. Most of their society isn't willing to colonize other planets that belong to other species, or planets that have intelligent life already living on that planet. They tend to stick to the shadows and stay low cosmically speaking, scavenging for resources and space, even if it means their society remains (mostly) isolated to their own star system. (Aaaand maybe a few rough-shape planets.)

WE'RE ALIVE! Okay so fun lil update, we moved successfully on June 14th-ish! Alllll the way from Virginia (Right against North carolina) to New york! We're mostly settled in! It took a while though since we had to wait to get so many things done because our change of address didn't get here for a hot minute. But we both have jobs! 1: Bare Basics

the tagline. the who when what where why. why are u writing this fanfic. for me its the Talking: i want my angel and demon to talk about Feelings, so im gonna make them talk about FEELINGS. this is personal fulfillment. it might take a while to get there, but i want them to TALK. for you, i suppose would be for ford and michael to meet and go on whimscal adventures. basics!

2: How To Get There

so how are we making aziraphale and crowley talk. how are we getting ford and michael afton smushed together in the multiverse. you, of course, have told me how that works. now is it important enought to flesh that out before the rest or just needs to be explained in a quick flashback? your pick, but since my topic is so vague, i definitely need context before it. that, my friend, is up to you. nothing much more to it. if u dont know how to start a fic, just explain how we got to what's intriguing about it (the crossover :))

3: Notes.

now is where the process BEGINS. what happens in the story. i usually start with miscellanous bullet points--everything i want to happen, no matter the order it'll happen, in a little page. here's a picture of one of my pages ib my notebook, with things i want to happen in my titanic fic (handwriting reveal?!??!) (TEA, IF UR READING THIS SOMEHOW, DONT LOOK AT THE IMAGES🫵🫵🫵) (SORY FOR HURRIED SCRIBLES, I WAS TRYNA REMEMBER IT ALL)

there's literally no order. just stuff that need to be there, there. even if its as simple as the au coming to fruition, or even just one conversation, PUT IT THERE. its all the appeal. what you're doing this for. dontforget....

4: Outlines

5. should eddie have died in s4 or should it have been steve?

eddie fulfilled his purpose. he absolutely should have died in s4 (as in, the options are eddie never existed and steve dies or what we got in the show, that bitch was not living till s5) and im happy with the choice. i think steve dying in season 5 is a much better choice, because we've bonded with him, we like him (despite his fans), and he means so much to the kids. it'll hit harder in s5. from a screenwriting perspective, i think steve dying in s5 is better than in s4.

but on the other hand, i dont think they should have emphasised dustin and eddie's relationship that much. it should have been like a 'he was innocent, he didn't deserve this' death and not a 'oh no my best friend/older brother figure' death. bc the second one is steve.

so yes, i like eddie dying in s4 as long as steve dies in s5

i do think all of the kids are safe, re: will, mike, lucas, dustin, el and max. they have specifically said its ending happy, and any of the main party dying is not happy. that said im a little scared for dustin. just like. 1%. if you told me one of the kids was out, i think its him. but im pretty sure they're all good.

princess prima garon (she/they/one) is the archetypical heroic good princess whose family was descended from a chosen one hero that defeated an evil overlord and sent them into exile. prima is the new chosen one to defeat a new evil: vindicta nox (any pronouns), queen of the neighbouring evil kindgom and descendant of the evil overlord prima's ancestor ousted. instead, they fall in love. (also turns out the kingdom's not that bad, just has a "villainous" aesthetic)

1. at first their families were. concerned. but over time stuff worked out and now they get along fine/their countries are allies

2. see above, i think it was harder for friends to get over distrust though

3. don't know, hmm.

4. i imagine prima's most relevant ex might be the lancer to her leader in their hero-team? but either way they're on good terms and that was a while ago, just ended up being kind of incompatible for a committed relationship. maybe prima dated around as well but this would be a childhood friend... turned first love or something? 👀 considering making them arospec and realizing that later/vindicta feels "different" from the rest. vindicta is definitely also a different type of person from the people prima thought they should be dating... xe's much easier to be around as a Partner. vindicta may have a previous ex that they also ended up not being too compatible with, but that ex had a worse attitude about it and it ended on worse terms.

5. initially, they don't get many chances to sleep in the same bed. however physical touch is vv important to them (totally not projecting /s) so when their families and the people in their kingdoms became more okay with it they spend the night together alllll the time. usually at vindicta's place because he's, yknow, actively ruling crows country and travel arrangements are a pain in the ass. ANYWAYS prima loves sleeping tightly curled up into vindicta. or the two spoon, they probably have one of those couples' pillows so your arm isn't crushed

6. they ABSOLUTELY give each other nicknames/pet names. vindicta calls prima riri, while they call xem vin. vindicta uses a lot of the typical flirty villain pet names: "my dear", "my sweet", etc. this happens to fluster prima a lot, though it's hard for one to admit the obvious fact that one finds it attractive. prima isn't big on pet names except using the ones her gf calls her sarcastically sometimes, which it finds kinda funny. sometimes they jokingly call each other their full names and titles.

7. vindicta likes how strong-willed and determined her riri is, almost stubborn. however, this can almost be exasperating and sometimes prima doesn't know ones own limits. less decided/articulate on what prima likes and dislikes about vindicta

8. not gonna go into too much detail about this (i am a minor) but prima: vindicta's overall height/build (vin is the taller one), and voice if that counts as physical vindicta: probably into collarbones? and the uhh waist/stomach area yk.

9. didn't know what this was, looked it up. seems to be about commitment and also just, happiness in a long term relationship? so i guess so.

10. haven't built out too specific of a timeline yet but they've definitely had big fights over what i mentioned in #7 with vin getting frustrated over prima being kinda self destructive and almost obsessed with "the right thing"

13. as i mentioned, both really value physical touch. they also both do a lot of words of affirmation (building off of hero/villain banter). besides that vindicta leans more gift giving and prima more acts of service/quality time. in terms of unique expressions of love, they like sparring with each other and helping improve the other's swordsmanship. prima enjoys trying to cook things that vin might like and generally like... presenting skills she's learning to him. meanwhile vindicta likes surprising darks gf with gifts related to their interests in particular, dark really enjoys their reactions.

14. idk what really counts as a "little thing" but? prima: smelling petrichor after rain. finding shapes in the clouds, moon, or stars. experiencing hypnogogia before falling asleep. running your hand along cold, polished stone. enjoying a drink so warm it almost burns your tongue. vindicta: happy vestibular stimming. waking up as the sun rises. noticing the seasons change. aspects of prima's style of magic usage: a pinkish yet golden light, a hard-to-describe tingling feeling.

15. prima definitely picked up a bit of that "flirty villain" vibe in her mannerisms, while vindicta has grown a bit more lighthearted and energetic in conversation. they copy each others' stims.

yeah so rumors have been swirling around for yearssss that he's an asshole and that by the end of arr*w he and his fellow castmates did not get along. fun fact actually:

this VERY popular meme above is from a picture taken during i think s8 of arrow during oliver's funeral. it was posted by someone who worked on arrow i believe and it said how they loved working with these people. anyway it grew into a veryyyy popular meme and if i remember correctly and i think i do it eventually came out that smell absolutely hateddddddddd this meme cuz he found it disrespectful or something? I'm pretty sure he said something about it online? idk how else i would know about this but yeah lol that's funny. everyone found it especially funny cuz he's not in the pic and it was shared with the caption loved working with these people when all these people hated working with amell (or so the rumors have been going at least)

but as far as I know there isn't actually like definitive proof he was an asshole on set? (but I'm also not part of the arr*w universe fanbase so idk all that much about it) I do know that an actor who returned for s7 and s8 ultimately didn't show up as much and he later revealed he left the show again because he was depressed and couldn't stand working with one cast member (which many have speculated to be amell)

then amell also tried to shut down an animal rescue next to him for being too loud? which is just baffling to me honestly, especially cuz he apparently used to volunteer there?

then there is the story of him like drunkenly berating his wife on an airplane which he got removed for.

he once made a facebook post about allegedly miley cyrus where he said he was dining out with his wife and daughter when mc walked in and he was so repulsed because she is idk like moraly corrupt for young girls or something? that was the gist of it anyway? something like that idk

but as for recently: sag-aftra is striking (an actors union) which he is a part of. because of this strike, actors are not allowed to talk about any past, present or future projects and are also not allowed to promote any of their current projects on say social media.

however, 2 days after the strike was announced, amell broke those rules by talking about his projects at a con. although it was very confusing at the time what actors could and could not say so fans kept it on the down-low.

flash forward to now (2 weeks later) and he's got a show which is starting to air its second season and he posted a selfie of him in front of a giant billboard with the show's name on on Instagram. this directly violates the rules of the union that he is a part of and led many people to call him a "scab" someone who is crossing the picket line during a union, choosing to work or promote their work instead of striking or standing in solidarity with those who are striking. and more importantly: because amell is part of the union that is striking, this behavior directly violates the strike order and any behavior directly violating the strike order, can make the union throw you out.

anyway: after that amell thought that it would be a great idea to say: “I support my union, I do, and I stand with them, but I do not support striking, I don’t. I think it is a reductive negotiating tactic, and I find the entire thing incredibly frustrating. And I think the thinking as it pertains to shows like the show that I’m on, that premiered last night, I think it’s myopic.”

so right now he's as far as i know the only actor who has been so outspoken against the strike. and like the important thing to remember is that this strike is not for him (clearly) he was on arrow before it went to streaming, he has countless residuals from that show that while now available on streaming is also still available on cable as well so he probably still makes a decent penny from his appearances in the arrow verse. but the vast majority of well-known actors are striking for the actors that are not well-known. there are over 100.000 actors part of the sag-aftra union. the vast vast vasttttt majority of them do not earn enough money from acting alone. are not fairly compensated and studios are now wanting to abuse their image and voice through AI etc. the demands of sag-aftra have been published as well as the studios' response and it's disgusting that studios rejected these very very very reasonable demands. any actor who loves their job and who has even an ounce of empathy for others would support this strike because it is the right thing to do.

except amell which is why 2 arrowverse cast mates have told hinted in tweets that he sucks:

Ryan Murphy said that he doesn't care about what people say or write about him and that he stopped reading stuff about him years ago. He said that's what he did for the Dahmer show as well. He only learned that the show was a success due to people texting him. Allegedly. When I heard that i instantly thought that this is so unfair to Evan, who is standing there with his own face as one of the representatives of the show. And Ryan, being the mastermind in the background, can just pull his tail back in when things get too uncomfortable and disappear into anonymity. So disgusting. He does have the opportunity to get any misconceptions about the show fixed, he has the power to reach out to the victims families and apologize for the lack of communication, he has the power to reach out to press and tell people that they are attacking the wrong guy. Ryan is the one who is to be held responsible about anything that went wrong with the show, but he rather chooses to plugs his ears and let the actor take all the heat. As if the psychological burden of playing a serial killer wasn't enough, now Evan is also left to deal with the burden of being expected to be the spokesperson for JD and to smooth the waters with the victims families. And if that wasn't enough the guy isn't even allowed to struggle with his own mental let alone talk about the role affecting him because "it's insensitive to the families". All whilst Ryan Murphy is leaned back and already working on his next Monster project. Sick.

alllll that. i think ryan murphy cares about ryan murphy, and little about anyone else. i don't expect the man to hop on twitter and defend evan from trolls, but when you know the way YOU handled certain situations only made people misdirect hate towards the actor you selected, and someone you claim to consider like family, i do think that it isn't too much to ask that in some interview, somewhere.. you at least acknowledge that you want to take the heat off of him. but nope. he never will.

Do you know where this shows up for me? The idea of "retirement". Since I don't get those warm fuzzy feelings from "working hard to get to X long term goal", I don't get that "just do this and it will alllll work fine" mentality.

Instead, I get to see things like they are. I see people retire with "more than enough money" that isn't enough. I get to see people retire with more than enough money who end up ill enough that there's no point to retirement. I get to see people who don't get to retire.

Now, other folks see that too, but those folks with the ability to process long-term dopamine on a whim and a prayer have hope. I don't. I know that suffering might just result in no justifiable end.

Does that mean I never do any long-term projects? Of course not. I've completed (and will complete more) novels. I've successfully been a part of a family raising kids. But I also live like my tomorrows are more limited than the average person and that's worth it for me. None of this buying into the typical bullshit and hoping for the best. My bullshit has got to be quicker and/or vastly larger in scope.

And I am very much okay with that.

people say folks with adhd struggle with "delayed rewards" aka long term goals and as such we tend to focus more on short term rewards. what they don't talk about is that at when we Do accomplish long term goals we don't actually feel anything proportionate to the amount of work we did to achieve it. In my head I suffered for a while and then money spontaneously appeared in my bank account.

Week ending: 29th March

Like clockwork, its one of those artists I would never have listened to if I wasn't doing this project, back for another round with the charts. And actually, both of these songs are kind of weird, in their own way.

The Poor People of Paris - Winifred Atwell (peaked at Number 1)

Yes, it's another Winifred song, though this one isn't a medley. Instead, it's a tune that I think I've maybe heard an ice cream van playing? Not that that isn't true of a few of her tunes, but this one has a particularly familiar ring to it.

Apparently The Poor People of Paris, while usually performed as an instrumental in the English-speaking world began as a French popular song called La goulante du pauvre Jean, or "The ballad of poor Jean", which was a hit for Edith Piaf and other French artists of the era. From what I can tell, it's about a man called Jean who gets rich but doesn't have anybody who loves him, so all his rich lifestyle is worth nothing. Notably, this has nothing to do with poor people - the English title is a mistranslation when somebody thought "pauvre Jean" (poor Jean) was "des pauvres gens" (poor people). Which... sloppy work, honestly. Did they never see it written down?!

Either way, it doesn't really matter, because this version doesn't have any lyrics, and the tune it has isn't particularly evocative either of poverty or of loneliness or even of Paris, particularly. I'm not a big fan of the "this song's about Paris, let's bung in an accordion and call it a day" approach, but if any artist could have gotten away with it, it's probably Winifred. But alas, no elements of Parisian colour here.

We do, however, get what I can only assume is an early theremin, which almost makes up for the lack of accordion, honestly. I love how delightfully weird it is, as it shadows the tune. It's like a ghost just decided to turn up and whistle along with the melody for a brief bit of the track. Excellent stuff.

Chain Gang - Jimmy Young (9)

Okay, I assumed going in that this might be a track from a prison film, a bit like Unchained Melody. But I was barking up the wrong tree - if there's any song this is trying to be, it's Sixteen Tons. It feels like a very deliberate attempt from the original artist, one Bobby Scott, to get that same vibe, from the blues sound and instrumentation, to the "work song" element, to the descending bass pattern on the Working on a chain gang segment.

Unfortunately, what I really liked about Sixteen Tons was its anticapitalist, barely-restrained anger. Here we do get the complaint that They put me on the chain gang, chain gang, chain gang / Workin′ on a chain gang alllll day, but rather than this being a takedown of a corrupt prison system, or anything like that, instead we get a story about a gold-digging woman who tempted Jimmy into stealing, then scarpered with the money, leaving him to take the fall. Which is kind of on Jimmy, honestly - he could have just not stolen that money. While Tennessee Ernie Ford was thus born into a situation that he was genuinely trapped in, you get the sense that Jimmy hasn't really got a leg to stand on. He got himself into this mess, and you don't feel a huge amount of sympathy for him, despite the hard labour he has to do.

Jimmy does his best with the cover, despite this, and the song is just about saved by dint of his campy delivery, along with the slappy echo and weird sound effects on all of the instruments here, the "hoo, haah" backing singers, and the odd delayed echo at the end, with Jimmy's voice doubling and tripling up over itself. It's all just... weird, in the same way that Winifred's theremin was weird. Some of it you could even imagine cropping up in a Fatboy Slim song, sampled and twisted beyond recognition. I appreciate the weirdness, even if it doesn't make for a very harmonious listening experience.

Actually, I wonder what people thought about the sound of this song - because it feels jarring, even today. Whatever they did to the percussion is straight-up bizarre, and honestly kind of fascinating to me, but also quite an unpleasant sound.

Well, both of those songs were, as mentioned, weird. I didn't love either of them as songs to listen to, but they both feel like they're pointing towards future music's use of studio effects. They're not electronic music, by any stretch of the imagination, but they're a tiny baby step closer. My favourite here's going to come down to which song's weirdness I find more appealing, and while tape echo is fun, my love of theremins may have to win out here.
