honestly no, never, just the occasional rude comment. i delete and move on

with varying degrees of success, yes. i like to think i've gotten better over time. writing porn is an aspect of craft that really fascinates and interests me, figuring out what i like to read vs what i like to write, balancing titillation with characterization and finding where the two lean in and kiss. half of my private bookmarks are random fics where the sex scenes just worked for me and i must squirrel it away to study under a microscope to figure out Why

not really, and i don't tend to read them, either. i think they're really hard to pull off successfully and generally my brain isn't on board with reconciling irreconcilable world-building aspects just for the fun of it

i don't think so? there was definitely...... a trend of let's call it Unattributed Inspiration in the mxtx fandoms, where any fic or tweeted idea or headcanon that got passed around would inevitably show up in the tag without attributing it to the originator. i remember reading a fic and enjoying it and then suddenly being like Wait...... why is this familiar? and discovering it was very clearly inspired by one of mine lol. i wouldn't call it plagiarism bc let's just all calm down, but it isn't a phenomenon i've encountered outside mostly mdzs fandom, let's put it that way

12. Have you ever had a fic translated?

yes!!!!!! mostly russian and mandarin. i feel like being asked if someone can translate my fic (or podfic it) is the highest possible praise and i'm always very flattered

i was going to say no at first but then i remembered that @bluecrystalrainingdaggers helped me write a charity fic back when i wasn't really feeling wangxian but needed to fulfill on the charity raffle we ran. she basically gave me the outline and i wrote it and i would never have survived without her

i am a fickle creature, so i don't have one. i have ships i return to over the years when i crave a specific dynamic, like kirk/spock and wolfstar and damen/laurent. in general my ships fulfill a specific need i'm looking for, hualian for the comfort and care, ghostbat for sustainable toxic soulmates, [redacted] for the angst and misunderstandings, vashwood for the doomed clowns etc etc etc

However long I've been in the Terror one, maybe. There's an anime I've been following for 12 (oh my god) years and I dip in and out of that fandom.

I - Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why

I got really fed up with Star Wars and the racism and shipwars and wank so just gave up. There was a fandom for a smaller show that I just walked away from because they were so fucking weird about the main pairing and if you didn't ship it you might as well not be there - other parirings were like dirty words and 'wrong'. Plus I had some of my work stolen by someone who was then praised for what they passed off as their stuff but was actually mine by one of the showrunners. So yeah. Fuck that. It also stopped me from openly sharing things in every fandom since (outside of fic and some meta - you have no idea how much stuff I've accumulated but never posted/shared).

I noticed that one user stealing posts from tumblr blogs i follow and i find it so odd. They're not the only ones by the way, there's another user that reposts all edited tumblr content that isn't strictly fanart for clout, and they've been doing that for a long time. The funny part about individuals that go around reposting stuff in the fandoms is that people make comments about the quality or characteristics of the meme/post, but the users in question never bother to correct the replies and inform them that it belongs to someone else, sometimes they even take credit directly by thanking them. Look. It is not that much of a deal to word a post in a similar way or reshare a meme or a theory or use the same images, but the intent is important. If you get complimented on it and you take credit for it knowing full well that you didn't come up with it or edit it, it is just miserable behavior honestly. That's just to say that it annoyed me too, and that it would be nice if said people read these posts and thought about it too.

yeah exactly! i really hope these people understand that it's incredibly weird to do this instead of just making their own post with their own thoughts and not just stealing and copying others. the posts don't even need to have nuanced thoughts either bc for example mine is just a "I'm glad this thing is happening" post and it still got stolen :') i really hope these people realize this and just make their own original posts!

Got to do smth incredibly fun and enriching yesterday!! I rly love hunting down sources for uncredited/stolen art. 1) it is infuriating seeing that happen to other artists and so 2) feels rly good when I can let them know & point ppl their way to appreciate what they're making!! And 3) just in general it's fun for me bc it's like a treasure hunt puzzle for stuff that isn't quite as simple as just plugging it into google or tineye reverse image search! I love it!!!!

I volunteered to try n help if she wanted to send it to me bc I'm a little Insane abt that and had just done a source hunt for some stolen art earlier that day and was Pumped lmao Despite having a semi-legible signature it took me abt 1.5hrs to hunt down the artist (admittedly might've been much quicker if I'd slept first n tried to do it today lol) and I just found the digital "paper trail" rly neat, and wanted to share! Plus, actually give credit back to the artist's current socials since this thing has been RAMPANTLY reposted across deviantart for the last 8 years. I'll put it all below so u can ignore it lmao

Googling the name tho only bring up ONE result from an aminoapps post on Oct 25, 2017 where a user posted it (along w several similar memes) and credits this one specifically to garmekoii on tumblr, with the note "*I literally spent an hour searching to find that the username was written on this,,,,, I just hope it's accurate"

Unfortunately, if that tumblr existed, it and the variants have long-since been gone. A glimmer of hope for a sec there but, ah, definitely not it lmao

Outright searching the URLs in tumblr search didn't result w anything even from a browser, which was. Unsurprising lmao ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and the image searches from Google and tineye unfortunately only pulled up any number of the times this has been reposted in "stolen from X" reposts on dA that just. Point back to the prev dA user, none of which were the OG artist fhsjfbshf and in fact many just say "meme isn't mine/I just stole this" FHSJFBSH😂😭 with tineye at LEAST I could determine that, well, this meme is at LEAST from early February 2017 or earlier

I am enjoying reading these. I've not been tagged, and I'm not tagging anyone. Because I'm pants at self promotion and I think this will help.

How many works do you have on AO3?

Currently 20, though AO3 says 21. That's due to User Error (mine, and not ruling out others). The first time I tried adding a fic to a Fest Collection, it wound up being posted to both the collection and my home, so it's up there twice.

2. What's your total AO3 word count?

240,140, which isn't what AO3 says. See above, I subtract out the duplicate word count from one of the two iterations of Dreaming a Life.

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Harry Potter, and that said I've got one crossover written and posted (Nexus), and another WiP (in the editing phase) which hopefully I'll start posting soon (Mystic Dream). Also that said, I really enjoy bringing Guest Charcters into my fics if it works, meaning the Guests are more or less in the role they play in their origin stories (with a bit of leeway), I do my best to keep them in character, they're just playing a similar role in a Potter fic. Examples, Arthur Fish and Barney Miller from the Barney Miller telly program both show up as Aurors; at the small hotel that Ginny and Harry stay in Washington DC over time, Basil Fawlty and Marion Ravenwood appear.

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

Yes. Sometimes the response is brief and sometimes longer. Why I respond is that someone enjoyed the story enough to make a comment, at the very least I should be polite and thank them.

I haven't written it yet; tbf this is probably because I prefer to write fairly happy endings. That said, Honeymooners ends on something of a cliffhanger…

Probably Dreaming a Life.

Without going through all the comments again, I think I received one comment that said I'd written the two characters in the story Out Of Character. It wasn't particularly hateful, at least not to me. And per what I answered above, I thanked them for reading and commenting.

Yes. When I believe it fits the story. What kind? I dunno how to answer that, your mileage may vary from mine, cobber.

I've written one, Nexus. Well, actually, I've written two, but the second is still being edited. So for now, Nexus is the craziest.

No, and sort of? So far it hasn't been published anywhere, one of the Discord writer's groups I'm in worked on a co-written anniversary fic.

In the fandom I write, Ginny Weasley/Harry Potter. I've got other ships in other fandoms, of course. Leia Organa/Han Solo is one. Honor Harrington/Paul Tankersley (though that ends tragically) is another.

The future is unwritten; I don't know I will never finish something.

16. What are your writing strengths?

Dialog, and descriptive "stage" setting. At least, based on feedback from my beta readers.

Confidence in myself, that the words I've strung together will appeal to others. I consider the craft of writing to be a work in progress, and keep studying to make mine better, stronger.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

When it's appropriate, do it. Translation programs help, and translation programs do not excuse you from finding help from someone who is a native speaker of whatever language. Try, but do not feel obligated, to put enough into a scene to allow readers to get the gist of it by context.

One of the places I do this, I try to avoid writing Fleur Delacour Weasley's French accent attrociously so there's only a few touches in her dialog that hint at that. And what I've done (with the help mentioned above) is when she is feeling strongly about something, she reverts to speaking French. Bill and their children all can speak French as well, though not perhaps the rest of the Weasleys…

19. First Fandom you wrote for?

One which probably no one thinks is a fandom. Hey, I was 12 years old. And no, none of that exists any more. Oh, the fandom? 12 O'clock High

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

While I'm tempted to say I haven't written it yet, I will say I can't narrow it to one. So: Dreaming a Life is way up there. Between the two iterations, it's also the most hit fic I've written. After that one Portrait, Proposals, and Vignettes.

Also like, popularity generated on a different site/account than that of the actual creator who made that content is very, VERY likely to never trickle back to that creator.

Exhibit A: artist creates content for their fandom circle on Deviantart. Reposter finds it, loves it, then puts that art on their Twitter with a link to the original (Fun fact: most reposters DO NOT do this). Said reposter posts many art pieces for that particular fandom. They have dozens of stolen pictures on their account. Now what is easiest for most content consumers to do: click on the link for every single image, comment on the original pictures, follow the artists on a platform the consumer may not even be on? Or maybe it's easier to just enjoy the pic, scroll through a few more for the fun of it, and follow the reporter's account instead. So hey, even though that pic blew up on Twitter and has thousands of notes, retweets, etc? The artist is lucky if even 2-3 of those people go to the source. Said artist thinks that no one is enjoying or interacting with their content because they never see any of this they'renot on Twitter, becomes disinterested/discouraged, and never makes a new pic for the fandom.

That not enough? Let's try this.

Exhibit B: Someone makes a meme. A gif. A little hilarious tik-tokky addition to the fandom. Some other person on YouTube sees this, laughs their ass off, and reposts it to YouTube alongside some other memes. This reposter is unusual in that they actually source their content, but I assure you that this an exception, not the rule. Oh, but they put so much effort into gathering all these jokes and tiktoks, then putting it all together to some royalty-free music, so they don't see an issue with monetizing the video. I mean, the content was just out there for free, and they're gathering it all together in one place! They've made it more accessible to people! So it's fine right? NO IT FUCKING ISN'T. The original creator receives no money from someone else exploiting their work, no attention or appreciation for their work. If they're not on YouTube regularly, and/or dont get lucky with the algorithms, they're never going to know about the theft, either. (And this happens. A lot. I had one art piece of mine show up in no less than THREE different YouTube videos, one with over 50k views, and only one of the youtubers credited me. One more credited me when asked, the 50k MF was Spanish and ignored me so I had to get YouTube to take the video down. I do commissions. NONE of that popularity resulted in me being commissioned. It took me TWO YEARS to realize the art had been stolen in this manner, and that's only what I found. What else is out there that I haven't found? The image was watermarked and it STILL got stolen!!)

There's something that many content consumers or other people, this self-entitled anon especially, need to realize. Most people who consume content on a site do not go out of their way to find it's source. They just consume it and move on. Maybe show some friends, link to the content in their discord. But only for the first place they've found the content. But very little of this interaction is ever seen by the original creator. And without interest in their creations, most 'producers' simply lose interest.

TL:DR; if you steal shit to post on another site, the original creator will more often than not never know that there's interest (or money) being generated by their stuff, and will likely quit.

So yeah. It sucks. Stop it you ass-wad anon.

And oh, creators: due to the rise in theft, AI or otherwise, the best thing you can do for yourself is content-lock your fics to certain sites (like AO3) or watermark the shit out of anything visual. These people are never going away, they're only getting worse as time goes on.

And hey, maybe that's another reason not to steal. Because you force artists to watermark their images.

I deeply do not understand fandom creators who try to get people to stop reposting their creations on platforms where the OP doesn’t have an account. Asking people to credit them - absolutely! It’s reasonable to want credit for your work. But to insist that the work only be appreciated by people who have accounts on the exact platform the OP has? And to ask followers to harass any re-posters en-masse until the re-poster and all rebloggers delete the content? I’m baffled by this.

How is fans sharing your work and linking fellow fans back to your account a *bad* thing?!

Are you new?

Most creators don’t want their work reposted. They may appreciate shares from Youtube and the like. They certainly do not appreciate someone making a separate video upload or whatever.

Fandom creators are even warier, particularly about their work escaping its intended context and finding hostile outsiders. Of fucking course they do not want their work on some other platform. That’s the way to get waves of harassment sent back towards that fandom creator. It also often involves lots of asspats for the reposter and nothing for the creator.

I have no sympathy for reposters crying that they got harassed over art theft. Stop stealing if you can’t take the heat, asshole!

Maximum audience is what shitty influencers want. It is not the ethos of fandom. Some people seek fandom fame more than others, but there has always been a strong sense of finding your corner, not of trying to get your shit out to the entire world.

WHY THE FUCK would I care about people needing the “convenience” of my fic on their own platform of choice? I use AO3 because I support AO3. I loathe Wattpad and will certainly not want to increase its popularity with my free labor and my content.

Yes, it does annoy me when people screenshot this blog and put it on twitter. I am intentionally not on twitter because twitter is garbage. I have no desire for my own writing to increase twitter’s relevance. Fandom should stop treating twitter like The Place To Be. If people feel like they’re missing out by being there and not here, good!

And obviously, I roll my eyes when some attention-seeker posts my shit to reddit and gets eighty billion upvotes. If you love me so much, go give my reddit account that karma. (If you’re doing your own hobbydrama writeup or something, that’s different though. I’m talking about c&p posts with little of your own content.)

There are different ways of sharing, and some of them are more annoying than others. Some platforms are irrelevant to a creator, while others they actively oppose being popular. Nobody is going to know or care if you post some fan art to a private discord with your friends.

Okay I'm going to phrase this in a more coherent manner than I did on my main.

So we all know that weapon names often reflect the loretabs that come with them and I've been wracking my brain for the past two weeks on why "Wolftone Draw" would be connected in any way to the tab about Osiris's perspective while he's trapped elsewhere.

Then I realized it was a musical term. A "wolf tone".

A wolf tone, or simply a "wolf", is a sustaining sympathetic artificial overtone that amplifies and expands the frequencies of a played musical note. It is produced when the pitch of the played note is close to a natural resonant frequency of the body of the musical instrument. A wolf tone is frequently accompanied by an oscillating beating (due to the uneven frequencies between the natural note and artificial overtone), which may be likened to the howling of a wolf.

Wolfs are inherent to stringed instruments, and they aren't necessarily always bad. They're considered flaws but it's possible to work around them. Let's connect this back to the Traveler.

I feel like i don't talk about Hamster Ball or Coffee as much as i should. They are in different stories of mine! Hamster Ball is an armless hamster ball containing a pet hamster a good portion of the time. The hamster has a cage to sleep in at night, but is considered a support animal and HB isn't really comfortable leaving her behind when he goes out. HB is in a terrible terrible awful situation i'm so sorry HB (trapped in space with the moon)

Coffee is from my planned object show, UFS! He's a disposable coffee cup full of coffee. He is extremely nervous and has some major sensory problems, often having to sit down and cool off, but he works at an art gallery and has a passion for doodling on coffee holders/napkins/etc. His face resembles pen scribbles on a coffee holder :o)
