Pt 5

(Pt1, Pt2, Pt3, Pt4)

(Ok y'all, going on vacation and this is the last chapter I have pre-written SO the next upload may be late. Apologies in advance.)

And so I do. Because I'm stupid. And selfish. And did I mention stupid? There is literally nothing dumber I could be doing. And that thought doesn't stop me. I trace a long since overgrown path around to the back of the house. Lifting the ancient stone of a raven statue, I reach blindly underneath in search of the spare key. Mammon told me about it during my first week here because he so frequently forgot his own keys inside. I chuckle softly at myself as my hand makes contact with the delicate key, the idea of something so small being so unchanged for so long being a little bit silly to me.

The key fits as snugly in the door as it always has, and I revel in the soft click of the lock as I twist it. I take a moment inside, breathing in the soothing smell of the house. It's peppery and smokey, but something sweet hides beneath the muskier smells. Like marshmallows on a campfire or a sweet oil rubbed into old leather. It's warm in my lungs. The air itself feels like soothing aloe on my hot skin. The thought makes me smile, conjuring half-muttled memories of Asmodeus hunting me through the house in an attempt to care for a sunburn I more than earned. I take a gentle half-step further inside, reminiscing on each small scuff and half-fixed crack on the wall as I unconsciously wander the halls.

I find myself strangely unbothered by the fear of discovery that drips its way down my spine. My wings brush against walls and decorations in the same way they did when I was first reborn, still getting used to their presence and the new space I took up. But I simply can't wrap my head around being here in any other way than how I always was. So I continue my venture through the halls like I'm human once again, with no regard for the gentle swish of feathers on the walls.

I stop for a moment in front of a mirror,, and the sight of myself, or more accurately, the cloaking spell covering me, makes me shiver. It feels so wrong to try to be someone else here. And so I drop it. The spell falls from my skin like a peel from a banana, and I sigh with the relief of it.

I feel nearly entranced by the whole experience. Head soft and clouded, as if I were dreaming. Maybe I am? It's been a year since I've seen these halls in the waking world so it's not totally impossible, but I struggle to remember falling asleep.

A gentle sound rouses me from my thoughts, a huffing of some sort. Or maybe a gasping? It's breathy regardless, so I follow it to its source.

My room.

Or, my old room, I suppose. Can't imagine it hasn't been taken over by somebody else's hobby.

As I approach the door, though, it's cracked open, and the light that flows through is the same as it's always been. The gentle golden glow of my desk lamp dances over my toes and across my cheek as I peek through the crack. To my surprise, it's exactly how I left it. My pens lay haphazardly across my desk, and my slippers are tucked at the foot of my bed. Even the vines of my ivy are thriving. What catches my attention the most though, is the way my lamp light shimmers on his head.

That snowy white hair I could pick out of a crowded club, even after all this time, shakes gently on my pillow. The shaking wracks his whole body, despite how tightly he's curled into himself. I realize with a cold wave of sorrow, that all that huffing was sobbing. I haven't seen Mammon cry like this since the Belphegor incident and the sight of it resonates in the pit of my stomach.

He's mourning.

He's still mourning. After all this time.

I consider running again for just a moment, but even if I could convince my mind to leave, I'm certain my body wouldn't follow suit. I feel faint as my knees melt from below me. Unfortunately, my efforts to keep myself up are in vain, as not only do I fall to the floor, but I press the door open further in the process.

The sound seems to startle Mammon, because, despite my focus on the floor, I can hear him shuffle in the bed.

"Fuck off Lucifer..." He mumbles, voice achy and raw. He waits in silence for what he's definitely expecting to be Lucifer's stern remark.

I attempt to take his moment of silence to press myself up and out of the room, but my movements are sluggish and awkward, and my wing bashes clumsily into a table, knocking over my lamp. I watch in near slow motion as it falls and I reach to stop it. But it's too far and I'm too dazed, and before I know it, the room is dark.

I whimper pathetically as I stare at it, delicate glass thrown across the floor. I scoot to pick up the pieces, cradling them in my palm.

"Who are you?!"

Mammon yells at me, suddenly shot out of bed. My head snaps up to look at him and I feel my heart crack. He's broken out into his demon form, but in spite of the attempted threat, all I can see is the pain in his eyes. His cheeks are red and shiny in the moonlight and his eyes carry bags deep enough to swim in.

"I-" my head rattles with the force of looking up at him, down at the shattered lamp, and back up at him. "I'm sorry..."

It's pathetic. What am I even apologising for? For scaring him? Breaking the lamp? For leaving? I'm sorry is hardly enough of an apology for all of it. It's barely enough for a single grievance.

His gaze though. It pulls me from my thoughts. His snarl falls and his forehead smoothes as he stares at me, and it hits me with a wave of terror that I am no longer hidden. Why would I have dropped the cloaking spell? How could I be so stupid? Did I want to be seen? How fucking selfish.

"M-mc?..." He whispers my name like it could scare me away. Like he's praying for something.

"I... I'm sorry, I just..." I stutter out words with no real meaning as I try desperately to justify myself. I stare back down at the shards in my hand like they hold some sort of solution, but they fall from my fingers with a clink as I'm slammed backward into the floor.

Mammon has plowed straight into me and taken us both down. He grips onto me like I'm going to fade straight through his fingers if he lets go, and I can't rightly blame him. His shoulders shutter with each fanning of his breath over my shoulder. It takes several moments of listening to his combination of whines and sobs for my brain to restart, but as I come to my senses, I wrap my arms around him in turn.

And it breaks me. I've spent a year carefully storing and sorting all my emotions. Handling problems without worrying about them. Actively avoiding any big feelings. And all it takes is Mammon to throw all that effort to the wind. Tears flow from my eyes, hot and heavy as they drip past my ears. My breaths shake in time with his and for several moments, there is nothing. The world falls away and we're not an angel and a demon. We're not even people. We're just two old friends crying in each other's arms.

this ones just funny but when mr perry tells the boys they can take a seat and todd simply does not. i KNOW he wasnt sitting before and he needs to unpack and stuff but ITS STILL FUNNY.

also!!! neil calling his dad sir. obviously its something so glaringly obvious that we dont need to have a discussion abt how theres a disconnect between them. like wow rly thanks mona i didnt know. but come on!!! it makes me sad!!! also they shake hands later in this scene and its the most affectionate/ friendly we see these two get. and its a handshake. and i think what makes it worse is that neil is a SUPER physically affectionate person with his friends. if u watch the movie and pay attention to how often he's touching someone else then ur gonna be like man. he rly was jumping at every opportunity huh.

something about the way neil and the boys act around mr perry makes me view him as more of a drill sargent than anything. everyone immediately stands upon him entering the room. they dont sit until given permission. it rly puts the whole military school thing into perspective but NOT ENOUGH TO SATISFY ME. as much as i hate mr perry, i wanna know what his life was like growing up. this man lived thru the great depression AND wwii, theres stories.

cam's stupid fucking face when keatings behind him larping ghosts. i will never stop talking about how sassy this kid is. the dps redheads go criminally unacknowledged in terms of comedy because OH MY GOD. CAM AND MEEKS WERE SO FUCKING FUNNY??? they both pulled the most dastardly judgemental looks and they make me cackle. a bit earlier in this scene meeks goes full 🙄🤨 on sniffles (tissue kid. i call him sniffles) and it is, without exaggeration, my fav part of the movie.

the fact that i totally thought knox was gonna fall off his bike and eat shit in this scene. it would be so out of place since dps isn't exactly full of physical comedy but GOD i still fully anticipated it. either that or him getting attacked by a bird. theres totally symbolism surrounding birds in this movie btw and idk what to make of it. if any of u lovely ppl have a theory then lmk immediately.

keating so accurately calling cam out being like "is this right is this right. am i walking right." BC YESSS. i will eventually make a fully fledged cam post but to briefly touch on it, i find cam to be very confused on what is right, usually in terms of morals. a whole situation of confusing your personal values with the rules, thinking theyre one in the same, and completely abandoning what u actually believe. unfortunately i think neils death rly amplified that nd is what led him to tattle. cuz cam is still willing to break the rules in the beginning of the movie!! he's outwardly judgemental but he still does it!! much to discuss, i promise i will eventually.

u guys know im an avid knox hater but this made me giggle. rip knox overstreet u wouldve loved twitch streaming.

THE SPECIFICS OF THIS SHOT. i was gonna make a post a while ago being like "idk i find it funny that the main focus of this shot isnt even one of the poets" and then i realised that WAITTTTTTT THATS THE POINT!!!! keating reached kids besides the poets!!! u didnt have to be in the dead poets society to be affected by the way he taught his classes!!! u just had to be his student!!!!! also i love the fact that the kids who stayed seated r ASHAMED. EMBARRASSED.

the ending shot. oihghgghgg. it was SUCH a choice to set it up this way and honestly i adore peter for making it. this shot is SOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE TO LOOK AT and i love it. when i first watched this i was like "uhm ok interesting choice putting todd between this kids legs but I GET IT. one of the biggest things i remember from the film classes i took is that the way u set up shots is sooo important narratively, and one way to rly push the narrative is the space around a character in a shot. for example! if u have a character on screen surrounded by a TON of negative space then it rly emphasises how alone/ isolated they are. on the other end of the spectrum (the todd spectrum), if you surround a character in a shot with other objects or obstructions, like todd and this kids legs, then it rly emphasises how trapped and confined they are. looking at this makes me feel like. claustrophobic almost, like it's genuinely a bit harder to breathe looking at it. TODD IS STILL TRAPPED IN THAT SCHOOL. YES HE STOOD ON THE DESK AND YES HE NOW HAS THE MOTIVATION TO BE MORE CONFIDENT BC OF NEIL BUT HE! IS STILL! TRAPPED THERE!

i was also gonna add that we dont rly talk about todd personality wise outside of poetry and anxiety but then i realised, what else is there? we dont really see much about him as a person outside of that, and i think thats the point! todd is constantly overshadowed by his brother, we know that, but i dont think we realise HOW MUCH that ties in with his entire character. quite honestly, outside of poetry and anxiety, ALL we have surrounding todd is his brother and his achievements. and of course! that makes sense! his parents want him to be just like his brother, they dont care about who he is as a person. UGH.

the desk set scene rly is the most insight we'll get into todds actual personality and desires imo, and thats what kills me. he wants a car!!!! get this boy a car!!!!!!!!! we rly see him start to open up before neils death and i wouldve LOVED to get to know todd when he's actually in a place to be himself!! but of course we never got that! sobs.

anywho. thats all i have for now. PLEASE share ur thoughts if u have any pls pls pls. encouraging discussion!! i love love love hearing about the specifics nd stuff, theres soooo much to pick apart abt this movie so i wanna hear everyones thoughts.

I decided to make two designs as I couldn't choose which one I liked more. So you'll get both of them :DD

Also sorry if he looks a bit unfinished, he was made first and I didn't plan on making more of these. Or sharing them, but I'm happy he gets to see the light of day.

Design 1:

Ok so #1 I made it obvious he is mixed. It's really not that hard to do, I'm looking at you Vivzie. There isn't much more to this change other than that. You can't just slap a label on a character and call that representation.

I also wanted him to be more uncanny. He has very dilated pupils as well as a more elongated body. His teeth are also red now which I think comes across as cannibal more than his original yellow chompers.

I made the bullet wound into a scar as I think the way sinners died would be more impactful to their appearance than they are in the show. His deer imagery is more prominent as well. His legs are obviously more deer like as well as his antlers. I put the ears on the side of his head to make them not blend into his hair.

Design 2:

Not much is different aside from the first one, just his skull. This is the one where I went for a more intimidating approach, but I kept the uncanniness as well.

He has the skull of a deer now, with a bullet hole in the center. I gave him carnivorous teeth, showing how he was both the hunted and the hunter. The permanent grin is interpreted as the skull being wedged open, cracking into one.

It's also implied that he has a secondary face under it. Interpret that as you will, I think the mystery is fun. You can see his teeth and eyes.

Both:

Made the clothes more accurate to his time period, and less harsh on the eyes. I wanted to keep him red color scheme but I gave it more variety. The yellow is gone all together aside from his monocle.

He has skeletal gloves now and I changed the design of his radio, his voice actually projects out of it rather than him talking into it. I don't think his mouth moves when he talks in either design. He always has that eerie grin, eyes unblinking.

My biggest change was the gaping hole in his torso, honestly mainly just because it adds a pop of color and looks fucking cool. It's like a soul cage! One literally growing out of his body, the bars are made of ribs. I also like the idea of him eating people souls, good reason for sinners to be scared of him.

He was fun to redesign!! And I hope I did him some justice without making him not feel like the same character.

IMPORTANT: I'm not whaling on the of designs out of malice, these are PERSONAL critiques that aren't intended for animation. I like the series and am doing this out of a love for character design.

Learn to be a Texas Southern, From Austin.

Ok. First of all, I love you all. I truly do. I adore my fan fic writers, especially if you write my Joel crack... um, stories. *cough* The man keeps me in a bear hug and refuses to let go. Not that I am complaining ;).

BUT, for the LOVE of all that is holy and good and Joel, STOP using any American TV show or movie for reference to how things are in Texas as far as the food, the way they talk, the way the weather is, how and what a BBQ is, and I swear if I see another one with snow...

Like I said, I love you all. Yes, fan fiction is fantasy. You can write what you want. How you want. That's what is so great and wonderful about it. Get creative, get wild. Go crazy! But don't sit there and act like you do your research and are an accurate little miss that can do no wrong. Nuh-uh. I will find a slew of little old ladies that will Bless Your Hearts from here to Oblivion if you call Ribs with BBQ sauce proper BBQ in Texas. Believe you me. Every State in the Union has their own form of BBQ, and in the Southern States, it's a fucking religion akin to College Football and Jesus.

American TV and movies are pretty generic when it comes to the accuracy of our own culture and will take great liberties when trying to pass off one area for another. This includes accents, ways people speak, and how the areas they are in truly are. I touched on this briefly when I went over the whole Bless Your Heart phrase and how it does not mean what you think it means and it can get pretty offensive quick. American TV likes to go for the shock value, and the drama more than it likes to go for the accuracy and really doesn't care who it offends in the process. And older shows, like Dallas, Southerners don't talk like that anymore. Except maybe a few left in Kentucky... Maybe. Watch play-throughs of the games if you want a feel for how Joel speaks. Especially the first one. Stay away from the second one if you are trying to avoid season 2 spoilers for the show.

No Outbreak!/Pre-Outbreak!Joel will spend Saturday mornings with Sarah hiking. And there are next to no hills (unless man-made) in Austin. It's all flatland. No mountains. A few rivers, and Lake Travis isn't far away. A lot of trails all around Austin from 1999 to 2013, depending on when you wanted to have Outbreak Day if you wanted it at all. They'd probably go to one of a trillion restaurants in Austin for lunch, depending on their taste. It is canon that Joel can't cook. Tommy, Ellie, AND Sarah all bring it up in Pt. 1 and Pt. 2, if you know where to look. I would say one of their favorite places would be Home Slice for some great pizza. Or maybe even Torchies for a wide variety of tasty Tex-Mex food. Maybe even pick up some Brisket (Texas BBQ) to take home to get ready for an afternoon spent watching the University of Texas football game on the TV, if we're in August to January. Honestly, May through the beginning of October, they probably aren't doing too much hiking. The temperature of 100° plus (in Fahrenheit) is all the rage at this time. And you might have high humidity one day, with non-stop thunderstorms that might seem like a hurricane, and can spawn a tornado, but really isn't a hurricane. Then the next day, be the dryest heat that you've ever experienced in your life. Though, from what I've heard, the latter rarely happens now. More humid days are common now.

Texas BBQ.

If you are ever in the Southern United States, do yourself a favor, and just do not call anything related to the grill BBQ, ok. You will be better off and have a nicer visit, and life overall. If you like to live dangerously, go ahead and call the grill a BBQ. Call a cookout a BBQ. Go ahead. I'll wait. I'll have the tissues ready and waiting for the passive-aggressive politeness from the ladies and the open hostility from the not-so-gentlemen. You have a Cookout, or you Grill out. A BBQ is a way of life and means something different in each state (and will start a war in North Carolina because they are so special, they have two kinds of BBQ). Most everyone in (at least the South) can agree that BBQ food is some sort of slow cooked meat. In Texas, almost 99% of the population agrees it's Brisket, and the rest are wrong. (That's another Southern thing, they are right, and everyone else is just wrong. Drives me nuts when they use it in an argument). Now, they will have different ways of preparing it, and they will have fights over it (have witnessed several), but they all agree on Brisket.

Being close to the Mexican border and Texas' history as a part of Mexico once upon a time means that there is a heavy Mexican influence in Austin. As much as Texas likes to claim to be white bread, it really isn't. From the food to the people to the names of streets, cities, etc, there is a heavy Mexican influence. The idea that, somewhere, that Joel and Tommy have Latino blood is not far-fetched. Especially on the show. At the very least they would have a basic understanding of Spanish. That is being from Austin, regardless if they share any Mexican heritage or not.

Politeness and the True Southern Gentlemen.

I hate to break it to you, but there is no such thing as the great Southern Politeness and Hospitality. In fact, if a guy comes up to me and says he's a True Southern Gentleman, I'm running the other way. That "Gentleman" is 9/10 times a walking sexual assault case. This is not to say there are no nic+e and polite people in the South, but it is no different from any other place in the US. But, I will tell you, from the upper middle class on up, they can be some of the most passive-aggressive mother fuckers you will ever meet. From the Mid-Middle Class on down, the more hospitable they will be, and they fit the stereotype the upper class has somehow gotten. It's a mess.

Religion

Not everyone in the South is Christian, or devout, but will say a phrase that will make you think they are. I touched on this in my Bless Your Heart post. As God as my Witness, Good Lord Willin', Christ Almighty, and others are common phrases you will hear in the South. It DOES NOT mean the speaker is religious by any means. Trust me.

That's all I have for now. I could go on, as there is more. And please remember, fan fiction is fantasy, it's creative. Write what you want. This is just to help out those who are looking for more accuracy. And as it has been a while since Austin for me, and you are from Texas, and more specifically Austin, and you wish to add more info, and/or correct anything, feel free, please. There are a lot of differences among the Southern States, and it can be a pain to keep it all straight. So I have no problem in receiving help to keep in all in line :).

I KNOW IT ISN'T NINJAGO BUT HEAR ME OUT

OK, so if you didn't know, im also REALLY into Ace Attorney and DUDE-

There's this fan series that has cases on Objection.lol AND walkthroughs +extras like prologues and shorts and stuff on YouTube that I've been following for a while (that video up top is the trailer btw) and the second-to-last episode of season 2 just dropped and I NEED TO SCREAM

I dont wanna give away anything but it gets CRAZY

Plus, this series is just underrated af in general. First off, its basically one of those 'crack taken seriously' fics except every bout of outlandish nonsense is so well developed by characters and clever humor and exposition (that isn't boring and actually makes sense) and stuff that YOU end up taking the crack seriously too. Tbh it's a lot like danganronpa in the way that as the characters are fumbling their way through utterly bizzare cases, there's also a larger overarching plot working in the background the whole time, and occasionally taking center stage and I just- 🤩

AND THAT MAKES IT FEELS LIKE A REAL MYSTERY

Like, I can honestly say that this series has managed to invoke the same feeling for me as watching a playthrough of the actual game. All the characters are really well written and pretty damn accurate to canon, and the little ooc bits here and there are made up for by the fact that they're CONSISTENT.

How would you write/rewrite Exes and Oohs? Aka. episode that exposes Moxxie's mafia backstory.

OH HELL YES OK

First let's start with what's wrong with the episode.

My major problem was that again, tone was terrible. It wanted a imitating tone anytime crimson was in screen, but it made him a fucking joke.

Chaz also felt lazy, like I don't mind a character that only cares about dicking down, its hell after all, but chaz felt like a terrible plot element for drama, especially because they made him be the ex of both Moxxie and Millie, which is just crappy. And how would Millie and Chaz meet?? We have no evidence Millie left wrath before joining IMP, same with Chaz. Chaz in general just didn't need to exist

So, how would I fix the episode?

It's not a bad episode, but it isn't good either. And for once backstory doesn't feel forced because Moxxie has been shown to be incredibly good with weapons, and know alot about them, so it kinda makes sense we was once apart of a mob.

Anyway

Rewriting the episode

The episode will begin the same, I.M.P getting a call to go to greed. Moxxie seems uncomfortable with the idea, but they go anyway.

They end up at crimson's place, crimson not being there, but they are instead greeted by someone of the mob who only refers to crimson as Boss. Moxxie recognizes the place instantly, and attempts to back down. Blitz being blitz, makes him go anyway.

The mob person brings them to a meeting room, with very little lighting other than the green light through the cracks though the curtain, a dark figure sitting behind a desk, a plume of smoke making it even harder to see who it was.

Moxxie seems almost scared as the trio is shoved in, and the door shuts behind them. Crimson, the figure behind the desk talks to them about why they are really there. He's very blunt and says he wants Moxxie.

Blitz objects, saying mox is one of his best employees. Crimson obviously isn't happy with this answer, and with a snap both Blitz and Millie are dragged out, leaving Moxxie in the room with Crimson.

The curtains are opened, allowing Moxxie to see crimson.

Crimson talks about what Moxxie cost the mob when he got caught, and then completely left the Mob for some cheap job. The mob was on Mammon's wanted his, and Moxxie was going to pay. Moxxie retaliates, threatening crimson. Crimson is unamused, and has Moxxie dragged away, and locked into a room separated from Millie and Blitz

Cut to Millie and blitz, who are in two separate rooms, stripped of any and all weapons. Blitz is trying to think of a way out. They couldn't get through the door, with it being locked and plenty of gangsters outside, that wasn't a option. The window wasn't a option from them either seeing how they were on the 2nd or 3rd story. Millie is in despair, desperately trying to break out.

Cut back to moxxie, who's on a first floor room, locked in, without any weapons. Luckily the person who through him in there didn't check for the window being locked or barred.

Moxxie escaped through the window, sneaking around outside. Luckily not to many gangsters were out. He had to find a way to get Millie and blitz out

Que him being caught, and completely bad ass fight scene because he deserves it. He takes the weapons off the Hellborne gangster. Now he had a way.

He had two guns, both full, and four mags, and a knife. He found another unlocked window that didn't lead to a room, and he broke back in, checking as many doors as he could.

He manages to find Blitz's room, and shoots the lock, alerting gangsters in the building. He gives a gun to blitz, as well as a mag. Que bad ass fighting scene

They manage to find Millie in the fit of battle. Moxxie tosses Millie the knife and more fighting.

Crimson claims he will get his revenge, planning to shoot Moxxie fatally, before blitz shoots him. Not accurately, but good enough to wound crimson enough to retreat. They steal a car, and attempt to get to the nearest hospital.

The episode ends with moxxie in a hospital with Millie beside him, asleep.

My first Real Grade kit was Char's Zaku II - so, of course that had to be my first Master Grade kit too.

I've been kind of hesitant to try a Master Grade kit for a while. They're bigger, more expensive, more complicated... It's a big step up from the High Grade kits I usually build. It's kind of intimidating.

But, at the end of the day, it's still just gunpla.

I don't like painting miniatures much. They're so tiny, my eyes are bad, and my hands shake. I hate waiting for layers of paint to dry. And then I feel frustrated when it doesn't all turn out the way I want.

But it felt wrong to leave these pilot figures completely unpainted. I think they turned out OK? They look fine from a couple feet away.

This K-runner quickly became the bane of the build.

It's a neat idea. The grey is some really soft, flexible, polycap-like plastic. The pink is normal, hard plastic. They're molded together so you just have to slide the pink bits into place.

But that pink plastic was stuck pretty tight. It didn't want to move. And there isn't really any good way to grab the individual pieces. I cracked two fingernails working with this runner.

The internal details are fantastic.

Of course there's the seated pilot figure in the cockpit... But there's a tiny little reactor that I'll never see again now that the kit is built. And there's terrific detail all over the inner-frame.

Unfortunately that inner-frame is almost entirely ABS, so I couldn't do any panel-lining on it. Although, given how detailed it is, that's maybe a good thing. It probably would've taken me a month just to panel-line that inner-frame.

I used my favorite metallic pink Gundam Marker on the monoeye. I just love how that looks. And it seems perfect for Zeon monoeyes/cameras.

This kit again has the neat gimmick where the monoeye moves when you turn the head - just like the RG.

I really didn't love the simple, clean, anime-accurate aesthetic.

I guess that's what it's "supposed" to look like... But after building the RG and the Origin kit - this one just looked awfully plain.

This kit came with some sticker-style decals and some dry-transfers. I tried one try-transfer, but I wasn't happy with it. I used one of the stickers on the reactor, but I didn't want to use them all over the place.

So I picked up some G-Rework waterslide decals.

So many decals!

I thought it would be easier since the MG is larger? But they're still just as tedious. And since I was using third-party decals there wasn't a nice guide to follow. Just lots of squinting at pictures and agonizing over which decals to use where.

I think I like the G-Rework decals better than the Bandai decals I've used. They released from the paper much faster. And the decals themselves seem thinner. I didn't have to use any Mark Softer at all - they all stuck great and conformed to all the curves fine.

Very fun build.

The MG is obviously bigger and more complicated... But it really isn't any harder. It's still just gunpla. The instructions are fantastic. Everything went together just fine.

It's very nicely articulated. Very poseable. Maybe a little too articulated? It's got the articulated hands, which I don't love. I'll probably wind up buying some fixed hands to replace them eventually. But it still feels very solid. Much less fragile than the RG.

And it looks fantastic up on my shelf.

4. What would your Dark Urge consider to be their greatest flaw? Is this accurate?

I think Japhet would say their greatest flaw is not being strong-willed enough, just going along with what others tell them to do- even though that isn't the case to the level that they think it is.

On one hand, they do bow to Sceleritas' instruction enough to fully intend to kill Isobel when they meet her- but on the other hand they realise it would mean the death of all of Last Light and manage to stay their hand. And yet they beat themself up for even wanting to do it.

Also, with Minsc- Jaheira dies at Moonrise, so they're forced to kill him. At which point they feel Bhaal approving of them for doing so, and they want to save him, and they don't want to do anything Bhaal wants them to do, but they can't find another way out. The Emperor wants them to kill him. Their father wants them to kill him. There's nothing they can do, but that doesn't make it feel any better.

5. What opinion does your Dark Urge have about the Gods?

ok so early in the game i think they have moments of derision looking at books about other gods and such, like "ugh that's such a stupid doctrine. you know in MY religion we.... uh." like they have the vague sense that they were religious in SOME way. as the game goes on, i think they get a sense that they're somehow beyond the reach of the gods. they think that if they prayed to any, there wouldn't be an answer. they aren't a person, they aren't under the gods' dominion- their fate has already been written for them. they're just a pawn in some awful game, trying to break out of it.

12. How does your Dark Urge feel about being a bhaalspawn?

It's worse than what they expected. it's confirmation of what they feared- that they're somehow inherently evil. they'd thought they were cursed in some way, or had some sort of other consciousness foisted upon them- not that the urge was them.

also they totally missed all the signs in moonrise that they had already been there. the closest they got is talking to the Absolute- but they came away from that thinking it was something connected to their patron (great old one). so that very much blindsides them as well

General Thoughts about Kris Deltarune

Hello!

I've been thinking about writing this for a while, and I really like a lot of those in depth Deltarune text posts analyzing theories, so I decided to take a crack at it.

That said, I'm not particularly good at it, so this isn't going to quite be a formal essay so much as it's me spit balling ideas at a wall and seeing what sticks. Interestingly enough, I haven't personally seen a big deep dive into Kris and resetting, but that may be because I haven't dug too deep on the theory crafting there. I dunno, maybe I'm just repeating what someone said already.

I'm not implying any of this is even accurate, nor do I actually care. There's probably going to be a lot of holes in this, and you can pick them apart all you want, and I'll probably cry uncontrollably like a sad little mouse, but that's for you to do. In the end this is all going to mean nothing (probably) or maybe I'll have uncovered some huge snippet of lore. The main reason this isn't a comprehensive thing is that I just don't have the skill to write a skillful essay on it. If you find it interesting, make connections about it on your own. Just don't fight each other over it in the comments pretty please. ALso please don;t be mean to me =(

Also, this is loosely inspired by @determinators and some ramblings they made about "Kris reset apathy" on their posts, and I'd like to give them credit because if I didn't see them talking about it, I likely would have never started thinking heavily about this. That being said, I assume they've made a theory on it, but I haven't actually... y'know... read it... so this is just my thoughts bumbling around my brain.

A FEW MAIN IDEAS I'M TALKING ABOUT IN ROUGH ORDER:

GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT KRIS RESETTING

So, first of all, let me lay out some general info about Kris's resets.

It's implied, to some level, Kris has at some point had the ability to reset in the game. I'll get into this more in the next two parts, but I believe that both: 1. Kris has at some point lost this ability to reset, and 2. Kris has not reset to the point the other characters have (such as Flowey.) and is thus not completely apathetic.

So, how do we know Kris has had resetting abilities? Throughout the game, and also notably in the Spamton Sweepstakes, Kris performs actions very specifically. It seems like a lot of things they do are basically routine. While we don't see much of this in chapter one, we see further glimpses by the Sweepstakes event and chapter two. I think the classroom scene described in Sweepstakes is a notable example of this, but I'll get into that later.

From what we see in Deltarune, Kris is completely apathetic about 99.9% of things that happen in the game, barely being phased by a large number of shocking scenes on the main routes and even being desensitized to pain. However, Kris isn't completely desensitized. And a lot of it may just be hidden from the player (Although Kris is noted as being generally reserved, anyways.) Kris shows clear affection to their friends and is a notable jokester type. We can't say Kris is either almost completely apathetic to things, or if they just outright aren't, but the fact other scenes don't elicit a "Hey, are you ok?" scene like some (Notably Spamton Neo's fight) makes me feel like they do feel some level of apathy to things they've come to expect.

The fact they do show a lot of emotion, however, does show they likely have not reset to the point of murderous curiosity, like Flowey, or that the understanding of resetting hasn't turned them completely apathetic like sans. *NOTE: This may mean nothing, so I'm going to put it as a simple note and I'm not too keen on it myself, but the exterior of emotion with a hidden layer of extreme apathy is an interesting connection between the two characters. This links back later, so I'll discuss it more soon, but as far as we can tell Kris is somewhere on the tight rope of being heavily (but not completely) apathetic, but also having a heavy understanding of many aspects of the world and what to do.

The apathetic side of Kris can also be seen in the Spamton Sweepstakes. Kris is completely unphased by Susie's antics, no matter how intimidating, like they've come to expect this. The way they don't look up for a while, and what they say, could very well be something they've just known is a code to follow at this point. Also, to note, the "Gamer reaction speed" might not be reaction speed, simply an expectation. Y'know, routine. Look cool blocking this apple, catch it, eat it, done. They also check up on Noelle, despite having no way to know she's there, and just kind of closes the locker. They know she's there and lets her know for... Some reason.

I feel the second example would be more fitting to talk about later, so let's put a pin in it.

WHAT ROLE KRIS SERVES IN HELPING US THROUGH RESETTING

So, how does Kris help us through their ability to reset? As stated earlier, I think Kris lost the ability to reset, but has maintained the memories of the resets. Interestingly enough, however, I don't think they remember when WE reset in Deltarune. I believe the reason for this is the way that resetting works in UTDR. It's implied the reason Undertale starts and Flowey lost the ability to reset is Frisk falling into the underground, therefore filling the role of most determined and gaining the power of saving and resetting. However, I don't think that power belongs to Frisk. It belongs to us, as the player. There isn't much evidence on mind, but there are some loose threads. Kris obviously doesn't have the ability to reset during our time playing Deltarune. And if memory serves, I think Frisk doesn't show any signs of remembering a previous reset?? Sorry, I'm not digging heavy for references. This isn't supposed to be a heavily professional thing.

However, Kris's assistance to us comes in the form of the fact they clearly do have memories - and specifically foresight. The Spamton Sweepstakes shows we know Kris does things very specifically, and this is shown again in the chapter two ending. The steps Kris takes to open a dark fountain are, again, very specific.

They turn on the tv (Specifically to static? Maybe.), open the door, check on Susie (Aww!) and open the fountain. It's almost ritualistic in process, but it's definitely also practiced. This isn't to say that Kris hasn't opened other fountains, but here, in Sweepstakes, and commonly throughout the game, Kris very conveniently knows exactly what to do, even when it would seem they happen to be heavily underequipped to do so. When did someone, infamous for not being a good talker, get the ability to smooth talk a Head Hathy perfectly? How did they know to jump to save Susie from King's bullets after being defeated (Awww!). The implications of Kris knowing what to do in most situations to a T overlap too well with the implications resetting has in Undertale too strongly to ignore, at least to me.

But returning to the how Kris helps us with this, the way Kris knows what to do (AKA foresight) is subtly implied. Kris interprets dialogue choices in a favorable outcome (this is very directly a play on the idea that whatever choice you pick doesn't matter in games), and the way they so specifically perform actions to our benefit almost seems like them exercising their own control, specifically to help us. The way Kris literally rips control away from us is an example of this.

When Kris creates the dark fountain, they know exactly what to do. However, the fact they do this at ALL is completely out of left field. Why would Kris even feel the need to do this? An analogy I can think of to describe it is someone taking the controller and showing you how to beat a puzzle. Maybe the creation of the dark fountain is important to "continue the story", and they take the soul out to do it. Like "Man, I was stuck on this forever, here, let me take the controller, this part's BS."

I assumed the fake out for chapter one was to imply Kris, y'know, doing their stuff. Showering, laundry, eating a whole pie. The stuff. But while it could do that, Kris may have been setting up something important, too, that they would know from experience needed to be done (Not implying any Knight business involving the chapter two fountain. You can think that over on your own, and it isn't relevant to discuss anyways.)

While freedom is a contentious topic in Deltarune theory crafting, I think this implies that Kris does happen to have their own level of control, too. There's the obvious of them performing some actions out of our control and interpreting dialogue how they feel, but also that they understand what to do and how, then work with us to accomplish that. It's like a symbiotic relationship of control! A happy possession!

WHAT ROLE WE SERVE IN HELPING KRIS

A lot of people have noted that for one reason or another, we seem to have been brought on board to help Kris, for whatever reason we can help with something that they can't do. However, I'm a fucking lunatic and I'm going to ignore all those much sounder conclusions and go for something much more out there, particularly involving the Spamton Neo intro fight scene.

During the intro to the Spamton Neo fight (non-weird route, by the way), Kris seems to just... Sit there. They literally sit there, and basically accept getting killed by Spamton, before Susie comes in to save them. I've seen this interpreted as Kris feeling so betrayed, they don't can't even foster the will to get up and try to survive. However, I have a conclusion that's much stupider, and a lot of my stuff here hinges on it, so I don't expect it to hold up well against scrutiny.

I think the way Kris sits there isn't out of a feeling of betrayal, but they are... "Resetting". The reason I feel this is about how they don't get up after Susie saves them. Kris only gets up after they get the yellow soul.

*Note: Here's a hole in my theories, and I'm giving it away for free! Kris doesn't get up when the soul turns yellow, but instead when the fight begins, which may imply the fight starting is what made them get up, not the realization of the soul turning yellow.

The reason for this, I believe, is that Kris simply hasn't ever beat Spamton Neo. This is where we come in as a player, because through us, Kris gains the ability of the yellow soul. Kris wanted to "reset" to before confronting Spamton because they know fighting him is a lost cause. Without the yellow soul, they just couldn't evade his attacks (This is assuming you can't beat the fight without the yellow soul, but I doubt that was an actual consideration when designing the fight.)

The way Kris reacts after the Spamton fight is what leads me to believe they haven't beaten the fight, because Kris completely loses the apathetic demeanor. If Kris had beaten Spamton, then why would they react in such a way? Kris didn't have freak out when Jevil started talking about freedom, because while Kris understands the concept of freedom, that's simply par for the course. We know you can beat Jevil without any soul add-ons, or in Kris's case, external help.

Finally, this comes to where we can help (or "help") Kris.

Kris may have foresight and know what to do, but Kris hasn't explored every avenue available to them. They haven't lost it to apathy and may not have done a no mercy / weird route, but Kris isn't omnipotent, and they have hit brick walls. They've had closed doors that simply won't open, and we come in to open them. The reason Spamton Neo was so traumatic was because it was so wildly unexpected, they've never seen it. It's an interesting relationship, because while Kris clearly exercises their own level of control through said foresight, they've never had full control, and they have to confront that in these situations.

About those closed doors, though.

While Kris has had things they simply can't pass in the normal routes, implying Kris hasn't at least tried the weird route (the audacity of me to imply!!), we may also function to "open paths" for them there. If they decide to follow, in a "The ends justify the means" sort of way, or if the whole purpose is to unleash Kris of their strings, I'm not sure. That being said, it might just rip control further away from them. If Kris never went on a weird route, they literally have no idea what to do beyond what they already do on a normal route. Kris loses that foresight, and what little control they do have feel like band aid fixes. Not letting us see what goes on with Noelle at all seems a desperate attempt to remedy an awful situation (at least that's the feeling it gives to me.)

Now, that's all I can really think of as of now. So, to summarize:

SUMMARY

Kris uses the foresight they have from when they could reset to assist us to some capacity

Kris suffers from some level of apathy, likely due to the resets

We can infer from the reaction to the Spamton fight why we might need to assist Kris - to give them opportunities they couldn't have reached before.

This implies why Kris needs us, and maybe even why we needed Kris as a vessel - a sort of symbiotic relationship of control.

Through the weird route, we may finally liberate Kris and grant them a higher level of control; or completely remove them from it.

And that should be it! I might return to touch up on some ideas I didn't present well with new evidence. This isn't a comprehensive thing, and I didn't write it with that in mind. I don't have the skills to, and I never bothered writing down my ideas so I can't really do that even if I wanted to.

I might return at some point to do another theory (This actually ties into another idea I've had - how the fun gang as characters defy the typical three hero archetype) but I don't really know if I'll have the motivation or support to do that. It would be a heavily tamer theory, anyways.

Thoughts on Never Let Me Go Ep 5

I really don't like Palm's dad. There is no excuse for treating your kid the way he treats Palm. If someone tells Palm "it's because he loves you" I'm going to scream. People don't abuse and neglect their kids out of love.

Neung's mom says "You are the most important person in my life." And i can see Neung mentally being locked back up inside his birdcage. Look at his face.

Neung trying to give Palm what his dad refuses to. I know a lot of people probably just want Neung to say sorry right now but I don't think he knows how. Also it's not really the place to have any sort of emotional talk. But he saw Palm ask his dad to care for him and get denied so he's trying to do what Palm asked for. He's saying 'I see you and I care' while also trying to stay nonchalant.

Now he's kind of trying to say sorry with writing on the cast.

I will enjoy any sweet little moment you throw my way. Them looking into each other's eyes will get me every time.

Oh no Ben. I can never tell if he's trying to shade Palm or if it's just the subtitles that make it sound that way.

This poor cast of kids who feel like who they are isn't enough because of their crappy parents. It's hard when there are parts of yourself that you find joy in but you know you can never share them with your parents because they would ruin it and turn it into something bad.

Every time they show me the outside of Neung's house, I'm reminded how dark this show is. I keep trying to turn up the brightness on my laptop. I respect it as an artistic choice but I do wish the show was a bit brighter.

Ahh yes the 'you already spent money/ time on this thing for me but I'm giving it back to you' trope. Otherwise known as the "I may be poor but I don't want your handouts" trope. Annoying. Been done before. Encourages people to be the "right type" of poor person, like if you just work hard enough you can stop being poor as if it's that simple.

Some of my mutuals do a lot of desertduo stuff, which isn't my area of expertise (or interest tbh), however what it does mean is I have gained Watcher knowledge, especially in relation to Grian, via osmosis. I absolutely love accessories and clothing items that used to belong to someone that's important to you. It means so much irl (I have a bracelet given to me by my best friend from kindergarten to her leaving the school in 4th grade and I still wear it often), but especially in characters. You can tell when somebody's left their mark on a character. AND! The cool thing about that? They're probably wearing it to remember the person after a falling out or death, most of the time. The implications of them removing it one day,,, when the other person is dead it can symbolize moving on, having dealt with the grief. But if the person is still alive, it's like throwing away everything that relationship meant to you. The rift has grown too large, and they no longer feel the desire to hold onto the rope

But aaaaa Cas!

Cas is my lil demonic pirate.

She is part of a crew who are basically a family at this point. The "Euryale pirates" [the rest of the crew are some friends' characters.] She's the "middle child" of the crew.

Each crew member has their own rough past that led them to where they are, and they jave an unspoken rule to not pry into eachothers old lives. Or that of people they meet. (This is present day)

But Cas's story specifically-

She was part of a different crew, sailing out in uncharted waters. The captain was like a father to her, and she did all she could to help around the ship. The crew didnt let her join in any battle yet, since she was only 14 or so at the time.

One day, out in uncharted waters, the ship runs into a sea creature. Or rather, a sea MONSTER. It attacks the ship, and if you think of a dragon breathing fire, replace the fire burning with being frozen into crystal.

Cas is sent to hide in the cabin for safety in the attack, but the crew is struggling against this thing and she opens the door slightly to peek out and see what's going on.

A blast hits the crack on the door she's looking through and she is knocked back from the door and falls unconscious.

When she wakes up, half her face is crystalized, and she's completely blind in that eye.

But she got out easy.

None of the crew survived, all frozen in place, pr shattered into pieces. The boat also had crystalized patches and was having difficulty staying upright.

She floats on this ship for a long while, until eventually being found by the Euryale crew. They take her in, and she does her best to keep this crew safe, because she will NOT lose another crew.

Aaand here she is:

She has an ongoing lighthearted rivalry with her 'little brother' in the crew, and is extremely loyal to the captain.

She often uses a cloak hood and bandage wraps to cover/hide the crystal in public, since she worries it will draw too much attention.

Crows.

Crows are super smart. In fact, they have been known to use traffic to help crack nuts. Crows have been observed dropping nuts in busy intersections, then waiting for cars to drive over them and crack them open. That's not all though, these crows were seen actually waiting for the light to turn red to drop their nut. They fly away when the light turns green, then fly back to get their freshly-cracked nut at the next red light.

Crows mate for life. 'Nuff said.

Crows can remember faces (aka hold a grudge). A group of scientists conducted a study in which they wore masks while capturing and banding groups of crows. The crows learned to recognize the mask as a danger and would scold the person in the mask upon encountering them. Crows that hadn't encountered the mask started scolding as well. Crows have regional dialects. Different populations can have differences in their languages, just like people!

Crows hold funerals for the deceased. Ok, so this isn't entirely accurate, but crows have been seen gathered around their dead in the hundreds. Studies have shown this is because they are learning about any potential dangers nearby. Read more about "crow funerals.", opens a new window

Crows have huge brains! They have the largest brain to body ratio of any bird. Their brain to body ration is even bigger than humans. 

Crows can make tools. They are one of only four species that can craft tools: humans, orangutans, chimpanzees and New Caledonian crows. They will find a good stick, sharpen forked twigs into hooks and and use it to scoop larvae and worms from holes in wood.

Crows hide their food. Yeah, squirrels do that too, but crows don't just stash their food away for later. If a crow thinks it is being watched, they sometimes pretend to hide food in their cache, but secretly keep it tucked in their feathers and bury it in another cache far away. Tricky right? Until you find out the crow that was watching the sneaky crow was being sneaky themselves and followed them to the real cache. Because crows know they are little tricksters. 

One more fun fact: A murder of crows is the poetic name for a group of crows, not the scientific name. Most scientists don't use that term; they would refer to them as a flock.

To point 1:

The middle is a little jumbled because you have to rank basically based on what you heard right before and after but I think it's mostly accurate! I think how annoying songs will be to relisten to does factor in a lot so I tried to add that in now. I am not annoyed at anything yet but like I figured out the double meanings in get him back and now the song isn't as fun because its already solved. ANYWAYS thank you!!!

To point 2 I am SO confused. I mentioned it to my family and they said she us mourning her dogs death and it's very likely she is creeping on everyone's social media. But ??? You are right 2020 means it probably is evermore long pond. You have cracked the code 😫

2. do you prefer spending your holidays in your country or travel abroad?

honestly abroad has always held more allure for me, but there are many really nice and precious places here in Germany. Like one time some years ago I was visiting my stepfather at work in the middle of the Harz mountains in the central part of the country and went hiking all by myself. I'm originally from the north where everything is flat af so any suggestion of mountains has a peculiar effect on me lol. But I like that you can go to any of the bigger cities and there will be something worth seeing there because it's so decentralized, and also you can just go through the rural areas and discover some old castle or abbey or whatnot. Also travelling abroad is more expensive and I can barely afford to go on vacation as it is XD

But there are so many places I would love to go.

7. three words from your native language that you like the most?

ok, just the first few that spring to mind:

hadern (verb) - there isn't a good English equivalent for this one. I have been looking for one these past couple of weeks and nothing that any dictionary tells me is quite accurate. One I consulted gave me the options of 'to struggle with' or 'to bemoan', but hadern describes a more internal emotional state. It means to be dissatisfied with your lot in life or situation, to complain even though you are helpless to change the circumstances that cause your bitterness. It's more of a mental state than it is an action I think. It means experiencing something that feels fundamentally unfair but that is bigger than you and what you can change, like fate, the world, other people, politics, your lot in life, your role in society, etc etc. It has an aspect of something that seethes under the surface for a long time.

Eierschalensollbruchstellenverursacher - just because it's an example of the ridiculously hyperspecific words that you can build with this language. This one describes a device that is designed specifically for opening the shells of hard-boiled eggs. Sollbruchstelle = the place where a crack or break is supposed to occur, Eierschale = egg shell, Verursacher = causer, initiator, person (or thing) responsible

Liebste/r - literally dearest, most beloved, can apply to both people and things. my favourite film or food or the love of my life. works as both a noun or an adjective, but they don't have the same intensity despite literally being in the superlative form somehow
