The 'York or Coppergate Helmet', 750 to 775 CE, The Yorkshire Museum, York
The York Helmet is a spectacular piece of Anglian artistry and engineering. Helmets of this period are incredibly rare and the York Helmet is to date the best surviving example in Europe.
It was expertly and meticulously crafted using iron and brass. The nose- piece is beautifully decorated with intertwined animals. A Latin inscription across the top of the helmet dedicates it to God and appeals for protection for the wearer. The protective neck mail contains over 2,000 tiny interlocking iron rings, each made by hand. It is testament to the skill and ingenuity of Anglian craftspeople.
This unique object even bears the inscribed name of its owner, OSHERE, which can be read above the nose guard. The name may translate as 'Warrior of the Royal House of Os'. Oshere was probably a member of the Northumbrian royal family who were the most powerful dynasty in England at the time.
The helmet is proof of the immense wealth and power of Britain's ruling classes in the eighth century. It was undoubtedly a prized possession and a status symbol for the owner, showing off their riches and military strength.

𝐒𝐀𝐅𝐄𝐓𝐘 𝐍𝐄𝐓
summary: the day gojo satoru came home, everything changed– the day the strongest returned scarred, something shifted.
tags: 775 wc | gender neutral reader | angst with some fluff mixed in | slight manga spoilers | satoru keeps his scars from his fight with sukuna | deals with depression and loss
it’s warm. the chilly, almost numbing, weather from winter has thawed– leaving behind patches of ashen snow. the birds chirp outside of your apartment window, calling out to each other as they huddle for warmth.
you watch, enraptured, as a mother bird guards its fledgelings– it preens their wings, maintains its nest by scourging for branches and thickets alike, spreads its wings for when a threat comes near.
it’s almost endearing, how human and animal nature mirror each other so well.
“you okay?” the touch of your hand is feather light, leaving no trace as they trail down satoru’s back. your lover’s quiet– almost uncharacteristically so as he lets you tend to the scars that now litter down his back and throughout his body.
“i’m good,” satoru hums, his eyes plastered on the mugs that are nestled on your nightstand. on some days, when the memories haunt him more than they should, he refuses to speak altogether– lips pressed tight against each other, shoulders slumped as he cradles himself on the bed.
it’s warm, he once told you, eyes so vacant and empty. devoid of the usual bright blue spark they carry. i like it when it’s warm.
“does it hurt?” you know it doesn’t– know that after what he’s been through, everything’s just another shade of numb. and yet, the tiny whisper in your mind wonders if he truly understands what you’re asking. “you can tell me, y’know? that’s the only way i can help.”
“they’re healed. nothing hurts. not one bit.” satoru grins, showing off his boyish, almost childlike happiness that contrasts the way his eyes are dimmed, hair a mess atop his head.
because that’s who satoru is– who he’s supposed to be. the weight of the world rests on his shoulders, a burden so heavy it dilutes, erases one’s sense of self because if he isn’t the strongest, what else is there to be?
for a fraction of the moment, you let him comfort you– chuckle like everything is the way it was. you miss the sound of his voice, the annoying cackle he lets out just before laughing– most of all, you miss him. the satoru that isn’t a shell of the person he used to be.
your hands glide down the expanse of his back while your eyes roam his face– you take in every individual wound, each a reminder of what he fought for and lost. you wonder what looks back at him when he stares in the mirror.
“i know that,” you mumble, lifting a hand to cup his cheek, gently thumbing his dimple. “but remember what shoko said? it’ll be better if we put some ointment on them.”
“right. right.” the roll of his eyes might have been endearing had he not stiffened at your words. “we should have my wounds healed so they look less ugly.”
the term wound sounds like such an insult for how gentle your touches are when he’s with you.
“hey,” you whisper, watching as his eyelashes flutter the moment your hand threads through his hair. “they’re not ugly, satoru. no part of you could ever be ugly.”
you don’t let him speak, shake your head when he opens his mouth to object. “they’re like stars, y’know?”
“i think you meant to say ‘like pimples,’” he snorts, sounding playful as he waves a hand to dismiss your statement, but you can see it– the hatred and anger deeply rooted in his tone. “or ugly warts.”
“they’re a constellation of stars, satoru. one that’s written on your skin.” you tilt his head upwards, watch as his pupils dilate– a sea of black drowning in blue. he shivers, spine straightening when your fingers trace his jawline. “each one so pretty like they were individually brushed on by a painter.”
you press a kiss to his lips, let him feel the expanse of your love as your hands move before they rest on his chest– you feel his heart thud against your palm, a gentle but needed reminder that even when all else fails, you still have one another. “you are my world and all my stars, satoru. the sky would be so empty without you.”
“then, i’ll consider them yours,” he whispers after a moment of reprieve, leaning his forehead against yours– he lets his façade fall, unhooks the mask he wears for the world. baring his soul wide for you to see. you soften at the tears that pool in his eyes, like diamonds glistening in a storm. “just like how i am too.”
to most people, the strongest may have fallen– but, in your eyes, he’s still your saving grace.

bon dia!! I'm moving to Catalunya this fall to be an English teacher's assistant and I'm so so excited to learn catalan and explore your beautiful country 💗 Do you have any recommendations for places or activities around the Lleida región? Moltes gràcies ☺️
Bon dia!
In Lleida (the city itself), the most iconic site to visit is the Seu Vella (old cathedral). It's a Medieval cathedral that was also used as a stronghold in war in the Early Modern Period. It's located on top of a hill, so there's great views of the whole city from there.
(Photo)
A natural place: the Congost de Mont-rebei (Mont-rebei Canyon). This is the river that is used as the administrative dividing line between Catalonia on East and Aragon in the West (La Franja). It's a very beautiful place, but I don't know what it's like now with the drought. There's a very nice walk near the La Pertusa chapel and in an excavated part of the rock walls so you can see the river. Many people also go kayaking or similar things but I don't know if there's enough water now. (For context, we're having a very bad drought, it has barely rained in 3 years and all the reservoirs are practically empty).
(Photo 1 / Photo 2)
In spring, it's also very pretty to see the fruit tree fields around Lleida. The most popular town to go to is Aitona, but you can also see it in Seròs, Alcarràs, Torres de Segre, and others.
(Photo)
Some historical small towns near Lleida that are nice to visit include Vallbona de les Monges with its Medieval monastery, and the towns around the Riucorb river (I would recommend the town Guimerà, and also Verdú to visit its tower), Montfalcó Murallat is also nice but very small. For a bigger town: Cervera. It's interesting to see the university building in Cervera, when Philip V (Spanish king who conquered Catalonia in 1714) made all the universities in Catalonia, Valencia, Mallorca and Aragon close down, he only allowed 1 university, which he moved to Cervera because it was a city where many people had supported him in the war and because it was in a rural area so he could closely control the students (university students in Barcelona and other places had been very involved in the war against Philip V).
(Photo 1: Santa Maria de Vallbona monastery. Photo 2: Guimerà)
An archaeological site: Fortalesa dels Vilars in Arbeca. This was a fortress inhabited between 775 and 300 BC, you can visit the archaeological site and the museum with the objects found. Arbeca is also famous for its olives (called arbequines), definitively worth a try 😋🫒 you'll find them in most markets and supermarkets.
(Photo)
If you're near, when it comes to archaeology, there are also some prehistorical rock art sites. The most well-known in the area is the wall La roca dels moros in Cogul.
(Photo 1)
Those are the places I'd recommend closest to Lleida. If you can move more, I also really recommend going up to the Pyrenees mountains (in the north of the Lleida province). There's lots of Medieval architecture there, lots of cute villages and some wonderful natural parks.
The bad thing about the Lleida area is that it doesn't have as good public transport as more densely populated areas, because outside of Lleida city itself it's very rural. So you might have to rely on cars.
Another activity in Lleida: the most famous food from there is snails, there are different recipes, the most widespread is caragols a la llauna, but they also serve them with allioli or with vinaigrette. There's also many other delicious foods, but that is what most people associate with Lleida the most.
Aaand that's what comes to mind in the areas near Lleida. I'm not from that province so I don't know it as well as other areas, if someone reading this has more recommendations please feel free to add them in the reblogs or comments.
I hope you enjoy your time in Catalonia!

I know that this could be kinda imposible, being in the bsd universe, but imagine s/o has parents, can i request hunting dogs meeting their inlaws?
MEETING THE INLAWS
Jouno, Tachihara, Tecchou
I thoroughly enjoyed writing this lol. Fem! Reader
cw: just the boys embarrassing you (both intentionally and unintentionally)
775 words
When you told Jouno your parents would like to meet him, he had no objections at all
You had to make him pinky promise that he wouldn’t do anything to embarrass you because he had a really bad habit of doing that, he enjoys seeing you all flustered and embarrassed
He greets your parents normally with a handshake and a warm smile which makes you hopeful that everything would go smoothly
Spoiler it doesn’t
He’s comfortably sitting on the couch next to your mother as he rambles on about every single embarrassing thing you’ve done
Your mother on the other hand is doing the same thing except only telling stories of when you were younger
It’s as if both of them had a vendetta against your or something
“Mom please stop..”, you drawled out the last word of your sentence as you attempted to drag Jouno off the couch and out the door.
You two had stayed long enough and you were tired.
“Actually that reminds me of another time Y/n wasn’t looking where she was going”, Jouno remarked.
You knew what he was gonna say cause he always brought it up 25/8
You glared at him. “Don’t you dare!”.
“It was on a cold Winter’s day that—”, you placed your hands over his mouth, telling him to shush.
Your mother only laughed.
She didn’t need to know that when you two were walking idly one day that you were on your phone and weren’t looking in front of you which ended up with you bumping your head against a sign pole and a big bump on your forehead which Jouno laughed hysterically at every morning he saw it.
He did try to warn you but you were too immersed in your phone.
Your mother didn’t need to know that though.
Tachihara is seen as a quite confident person but upon mentioning your parents wanting to meet him, he’s a nervous wreck at first but eventually he’ll calm down
He just wants to live up to the expectations your parents had for him cause if they didn’t approve of him, he wouldn’t know what to do with himself
His words are endearing
He promises them that he’ll take good care of you and that he’ll never make you cry
He’s very tense until you place a reassuring hand on his
“I would do absolutely anything for your daughter!”
If for some reason your parents didn’t approve of him best believe he’d get on his hands and knees and literally plead
“You’ll be fine, they don’t bite”, you patted Tachihara on the shoulder.
“I dunno. I’d say they would if worse comes to worst”, he began wringing his hands.
When you noticed this, you took on of his hands in between your own and placed a kiss on his knuckles, resulting in a light shade of pink coating the apples of his cheek.
“You haven’t even met them yet, how would you know?? Just calm down alright?”.
As expected, your actions and words were able to calm him down.
Tachihara was polite throughout and had his way with words. So much so that your parents immediately took a liking to him.
“See? All your worrying was for nothing!”.
He was smiling like an idiot all the way home.
Tecchou is very formal about it
Like boy’s on his knees and everything
He ends up saying a lot of things that embarrass you but he doesn’t do it intentionally, he trying alright!
He firmly believes that all his respect should go to your parents since they were the ones who created you (his words not mine)
Tecchou immediately sat on his two knees and bowed his head.
Your parents blinked at you but you only avoided their confused gazes and put a hand over your face. You knew you should’ve warned him before leaving home..
“Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. L/n”.
Your parents were reluctant to as but “For..what?”.
Techhou raised his head and placed a hand on his chest. “For creating such an amazing woman like Y/n. I’m forever grateful”.
That was your queue to butt-in cause if you didn’t, who knows what words would come out of his mouth next.
“Woah would you look at the time! We have to go”, you chuckled haphazardly, pulling Tecchou behind you.
“Go where Y/n? It’s eight pm—”.
“Shh!”.
Despite the fact Tecchou was a bit over the top sometimes, you still found it a bit endearing.
Masterlist :)

Tales from Imperial Intelligence
"Unexpected Neighbor"
Word count: 775
Preceded by this thread
Warnings: None
"Wait, are you out there now, sir?" Blithe tapped out the message to her commander.
"I am," he responded. "You need to come see this."
Curiosity piqued, Blithe hurried to reply that she was on her way, then headed out the door of the surveillance lab toward the astrobotany lab next door.
Commander Echo gestured for her to come to where he stood, without taking his eyes off of what they had assumed to be a lumpy rock when they had first spotted it the day before. It sat on a deep tray of rust-colored soil, and as the commander's earlier message had said, it had definitely grown.
The "rock", once the size of a jogan fruit, was now nearly as big as Blithe's head. In addition to being bigger, one side of the vaguely ovoid object had become distended, with a visible seam showing signs of straining under pressure from within.
The commander stepped back to let Blithe in for a closer view, and she opened her mouth to ask him if he had any idea what they were looking at. Before she got the first word out, the pod split open with a violence that ripped it in two and hurled fragments in all directions. A dark vine uncurled in an eyeblink, slapping wetly against the window a hand's breadth from Blithe's face.
Blithe stumbled back in alarm, right into the commander's chest. If he hadn't steadied her with a hand on one arm and his scomp under the other, she might have landed in a heap at his feet.
Mortified at being so startled by a plant, Blithe twisted to look up and back at him, stammering an apology, her cheeks burning like Tatooine at noon.
"Sir! I'm so sorry..." she began. But the commander interrupted her with a hint of a smile and dismissive gesture of his scomp.
"It's alright, Lieutenant." He released his hold on her elbow and inclined his head toward the window. "No seedling is going to make it through that transparisteel."
Echo's aide held back from the window, staring fixedly at the still-twitching thing now adhered to the other side of the pane. The commander continued, "I've seen other plants do something similar. It's biomechanical, not a sign of intelligence." Something about the way the tendrils that spiraled off the vine seemed to be traveling upward in unison as if searching for something made the commander pause. His eyes, like Blithe's, followed them as they quivered in mid-air. He spoke his next words slowly. "It's probably a coincidence we were here when it burst."
As a native of Coruscant, most of Blithe's experience with plants was from visits to the botanical gardens or shrubs in planters. Commander Echo had been to planets she had never heard of and seen things she couldn't begin to imagine, so this explanation was enough to settle most of Blithe's unease. She leaned in close again to examine the vine that had so frightened her. It really was beautiful once she got past the feeling that well-behaved plants shouldn't be quite so animated.
It was maybe a meter in length, with a thick stalk and deeply lobed leaves in between the twisting tendrils. Those leaves were a deep blue-green, and they shimmered with an iridescence that would look more at home on an insect's wing than any of the vegetation Blithe knew of. The stalk itself was studded with little suckers reminiscent of the toe pads of climbing amphibians Blithe had once seen in a holo documentary. Those suckers appeared to be what was holding the vine so tightly against the window. Could the quivering they saw be the delicate tendrils moving in air currents in the lab, rather than the plant moving them on its own?
Blithe found her voice and said, "Sir, I don't see any labels around it like they have on the other plants. Do you think they know what this is?"
Commander Echo didn't reply immediately. If she had to put a word to it, Blithe would have said he looked mildly concerned, but he could be difficult for her to read at the best of times.
"Hmm... I assume they do," he finally answered, "since it's just sitting out in the open. But it's in there with them, and the lab is sealed. They go in and out through that air-lock." He pointed toward heavy doors on the far side of the large space. "So, if it's going to be more of a handful than they expect, it will be their handful to deal with."
"As for us, Blithe, it's time we got back to work."

so this year I ~challenged myself to post a gifset once a week, because making gifsets is something I enjoy very much and can always improve in but literally cannot do for money or lbr meaningful validation and I am historically bad at doing things that fit those categories!
I ended up posting 54 gifsets in 2023, one a week plus a few extras lol. A few stats behind the cut just for fun!
Most popular overall: "I'm so glad I met you" with 1,738 as of this morning. Objectively correct. The nicest-looking gifs I maybe made all year and an all-time scene. Made it my pinned post recently.
Least popular overall: A Community set of Jeff making a Dane Cook joke, coming in at a grand total of 39 notes. This was actually a remake of a set I made YEARS ago because I think it's a great joke lmao. A set doomed imo by the youths on my lawn not knowing who Dane Cook is and also tbf Jeff as the only featured study group character.
Honorable mention to the Rangers World Series set I made, but I'm actually floored and delighted that it got 43 notes. There are dozens of us!!
Gifsets made per fandom:
Community: 14 (!)
Doctor Who: 10
Elementary, Mythic Quest, Ted Lasso: 5
Succession: 3
Last of Us, Leverage, Severance, Shrinking: 2
Always Sunny, The Bear, MLB (haha), Scrubs: 1
I'm a little insulted for Elementary tbh! Otherwise this pretty much tracks.
By average number of notes and not counting the one-offs:
Least popular fandom: Mythic Quest with an average of 130 notes across 5 posts. I don't care. I'll win you all over.
Most popular fandom: Leverage with an average of 837 notes across 2 posts, both of which were Hardison/Parker, so...
Most popular fandom not inflated by Hardison/Parker: Doctor Who by a mile with an average of 775 notes per post. Feels good. Feels right. We're back baybee
Interesting split of 18 shippy sets and 36 non-shippy. Including "outliers," shippy sets averaged 621 notes compared to an average of 332 for gen sets. Throwing out the two lowest note-getting posts from each set, the averages jump to 680 and 350. Also not a surprise; fandom loves a ship lol.
Number of sets (avg. notes) per ship, not including one-offs:
Ted/Rebecca: 2 (333) (womp womp)
Jeff/Britta: 3 (267)
Hardison/Parker: 2 (836)
Ten/Rose: 2 (619)
Nine/Rose: 6 (890)
Doctor/Rose: 8 (823)
It shows that I trailed off my RTD1 rewatch mid-s2 lol. (Which seems blasphemous!! but it was never the right time to handle the satan pit episodes, you get it) Doctor/Rose supremacy obviously but also justice for Jeff/Britta, the greatest relationship ever known
Some one-off fandom set thoughts:
The Dr. Cox set was a mostly-for-me fave. The Always Sunny set happened because I thought the Aaron Paul/Bryan Cranston episode was one of the funniest the show has had in years; that episode was also what finally pushed me into watching Breaking Bad this year, which I mostly really enjoyed lol.
The set I made from the finale of The Bear s2 ended up the sixth most popular set of the year with 1k+ notes and it's probably the set I most notice on my activity page every week. It does look really nice but also, I see you, Syd/Richie fandom, and I hear your siren song. Maybe in 2024...
So OK! Hey! I set a meaningless fun goal and accomplished it!! I'm not setting another specific gif goal for 2024 so will probably be a lot more sporadic. Or not! Who knows!
OK pals, thanks for indulging me, happy new year <3

Destroyed Ural-4320 in Belgorod region, Russia, June 21, 2023. Source: Naalsio26
P.S. A slight departure from the topic of Russian military trucks, but the news is very good: Big news coming today from port city Novorossiysk, Russia. Ukrainian Naval drones attacked it and managed to damage the Russian Project 775 war/landing ship Olenegorsky Gornyk which is now floating on its side and is towed away.
It was a bit amusing to read the "objective" DW publication after I had seen the video of a half-sunken Russian warship being towed to the dock. The German "objective" media is woefully inaccurate in its desire to spread Kremlin narratives "about successfully repelled Ukrainian attacks".
In fact, the Ukrainian drone attack was successful and it is a new pleasant turn in the course of the war... Such attacks need to be repeated. The complete destruction of the Russian Black Sea Fleet is an important prerequisite for peace...

Asteroid
