The new little mermaid movie is amazing and lovely and really adds new depth and style to the story. It was definitely one of the ones that totally benefited from a cgi treatment (the original was amazing but this was astounding).
Spoilers of varying sizes below
Halle Bailey is incredible and expressive and her beautiful deep eyes conveyed so much of what she wanted to say when she couldn’t. And I adore that she got an inner monologue song. I can’t wait to see her in more things.
Melissa McCarthy as Ursula was a wonderful choice. She knew how to work that role.
The way that triton and the merpeople sent Ariel off made my eyes water. She will never be alone, and does not have to give up her family to be with her love. That’s amazing.
I love that Eric had his own treasure trove (like that room was even set up like hers)!!! Ariel and him bonding in there was excellent. And their trip around the island (that hat!!!!) and the lagoon was dreamy.
I think it was a little heavy handed/weird that Eric was a castaway kid but im not worried about it.
Ariel killed Ursula and YEAH BABY!!! I love how she and Eric were both dragging themselves with determination at the same time. Ariel is a stubborn lady and splinters won’t get in her way!!!
One of the best parts is that Ariel and Eric hug before they kiss for the first time.
The scuttlebutt song was fun.
The whole theatre laughed out loud at several parts and that made me happy.
Anyways if you’re thinking about seeing it (I don’t care how) you definitely should!!! I think it’s a separate enough, quality experience that it can be enjoyed even if you find the live action disney trend totally annoying.
I am definitely going to rewatch it sooner or later <3
#the little mermaid 2023#the little mermaid#Halle Bailey#I got a poster!!!#Halle Bailey has such a cute baby face I can’t believe she’s a year older than me wtf#I didn’t like Eric at the beginning that much but her love for him and his love sickness sold me#this is really the water year of Disney lmao#also I saw a trailer for a film called wish and that looked interesting#it was definitely trying to capitalize on the cartoony line art that’s popular rn#but it was still too pixary. I think they’re going to need to trouble shoot that#but it looked interesting! that baby goat should NOT have that voice tho. it was clearly a kid not a dwarf goat adult

oh wow, it looks like Disney's Primos is coming out - I thought they shelved it!
I showed my parents the trailer, and they immediately said that the main character looks just like I did when I was little lmao, because it's true
Because, like, 1)I'm Chicane, and we have the exact same coloring, 2)I had short hair and braces from ages 9-11, 3)I had many many pairs of jean shorts, 4)glasses, lol, and 5)my mom shaved my unibrow every month when I was little
And then, of course, the premise - when I was 8 I had to live with my cousins for Summer (+ one month of school) before we moved in with my grandparents bc *~*technically we were homeless for several years*~*
How many cousins? Well, first with only 3, but then there were problems, so then we moved in with a different tía, who, at the time, had 7 kids.
(if anyone's curious, I have 20 cousins total, with 1 more on the way)
Being in single 3 bedroom house (with 2 makeship rooms in the garage) with 7 cousins, 4 adults, and my little brother was. Um. An experience.
But anyway, after I showed my parents the trailer, I told them this show was supposed to premiere a year ago but had controversies after the theme song dropped, then I showed them the original theme song to see if anything caught their attention.
And sure enough, absolutely nothing. My mom questioned the nickname Nachos, bc it can sound kinda iffy, but nothing else caught their attention.
(and oh, for context, they both grew up in LA, both growing up translating for their parents)
I showed them some clips of why people hated it, and yeah, they were confused bc they would say "oye primos," not "oigan primos." I guess my grandparents weren't concerned with teaching exact grammar at home, more concerned with making sure that my parents were learning english at school
everyone being mad at "terremoto heights" was um. weird. because we're constantly making earthquake jokes, because we're waiting for The Big One, which we know will inevitably screw us over and possible strand us without water and home if/when it comes. but we still joke about it, you know? my whole class made earthquake jokes, and my parents made earthquake jokes when they were in school and they lived through the LA quakes
it makes me wonder if Animaniacs released their "A Quake" song today, would people have been up in arms as much as they have for Primos?
but I guess changing it is fair, if Disney wants to have an international release. even if making earthquake jokes is part of SoCal culture.
they were really surprised about the nickname controversies, because here in SoCal, those nicknames are like. pretty common. yes, even the one that they ended up changing. it's almost as if words have different connotations in different places..........
ANYWAY the biggest thing is that they agreed that the voice actress was out of line (although they think it's obvious that the "shithole" comment was poking fun at trump and that that was being taken out of context in bad faith) but - and this is an inside joke I'm not gonna elaborate on - makes sense considering her name
(IF YOU'RE A MUTUAL OR A TRUSTED FOLLOWER, if you're curious about the joke, I WILL dm you to explain if you ask)
but yeah. it's obvious that this is Disney's answer to The Loud House and The Casagrandes - that being said, all the vitriol towards this shows seems very unfounded. this show just seems very Chicano, moreso than other things I've seen.
and like, as I've explained here, this show is very, heavily relatable to me specifically. none of my white friends understood the pains of living with a bunch of your wild cousins - but multiple of my Chicana friends did. at different schools districts even.
it's just... a lot of the things people are shouting is "bad representation" is literally just... my life. And, apparently, the creator's life, considering it's based on her childhood.
I think it's nice that she made a show about Chicano culture. It does suck that apparently no one knows or even seem to want to know what Chicano culture is.
I just can't help but to wonder if I ever make something about my life, my lived experience... will people call me bad representation? idk.
anyway, I'll probably check the first few episodes out. I'm not sure I'll watch the whole series, since, lately, Disney's shows have been kinda a miss for me. but maybe I'll be surprised. I'm willing to give it a shot
#anyway i did NOT (and do not) wear flip flops. I wore sandals#bc it's SoCal and it's HOT and I always tripped while wearing flip flops lmao#primos#disney primos#dtva#disney#jazzy keeps blogging til the blog ends

Since I’m a huge fan of your writing, I’m curious: who are some your favorite writers and what are some of your favorite books or short stories??
Oh man, I've done so much reading over my life that it's hard to narrow down. Like I'm for sure going to leave people out.
For fiction: some of my favorite authors are the Bronte sisters (slight preference for Charlotte - Jane Eyre was one of my first loves and hugely shaped me as a reader and a writer), Daphne du Maurier (favorite of her books - Rebecca), Sarah Waters (can't decide between Fingersmith and The Paying Guests), Angela Carter (The Bloody Chamber), Susanna Clarke (Jonathon Strange and Mr Norell), Toni Morrison (Beloved), Robin Hobb (the Farseer trilogy and Fitz's further adventures, but I've heard good things about the Liveship Trader books!), Terry Pratchett (the Tiffany Aching books are particular favorites), and Anne Rice (well, depending on the book tbh, she's not very consistent lol - the first three Vampire Chronicle books are my favs from her), with special shout-outs to Robin McKinley (Beauty), Avi (The True Confession of Charlotte Doyle), LM Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables), Frank L Baum (I have read every single Oz book - there are a ton of them!) and Madeleine L'Engle (A Wrinkle in Time), who were my favs when I was a kid (along with the Babysitter's Club book lol - but they're mostly ghostwritten so I'm not sure who to credit!)
Right now, I'm re-reading (for the millionth time) The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter, which is a collection of fairy tale retellings - but that feels like a really inadequate way to describe it. It's very visceral, primal, and poetic. My favorite story from the collection is "The Bloody Chamber," which is a Bluebeard retelling. Bluebeard is one of my favorite fairy tales, but it understandably doesn't get a lot of adaptation. (I'm very curious what Disney's Bluebeard would look like lmao)
I'm also listening to the audiobook of The Vampire Lestat, which is the reason that Anne Rice is on that list. She really lost me with her later books, but listening to TVL reminded me that actually, she can be very good! She really excels at evocative descriptions and conveying emotion - she's very shameless, in a good way. A woman who always writes with her entire pussy, whatever else you might say about her.
But I actually read more nonfiction than fiction. I'm a big fan of memoirs - not celebrity memoirs (although Jennette McCurdy's I'm Glad My Mom Died was probably my favorite book I've read this year), but memoirs that are more about someone grappling with the human experience - like, sometimes the author has been through something horrible and they've done a lot of mediation on what they've been through, or sometimes the author is just a very astute and entertaining observer of their own (and other people's) ridiculousness. Some of my favorites are Mary Karr, Caroline Knapp, David Sedaris, Cheryl Strayed, Jeanette Walls, Tara Westover, and Allie Brosh.
If I had to pick one to recommend - all of David Sedaris's books are extremely funny. He writes humorous personal essays, so I guess his books aren't really memoirs exactly (google says he's a humorist), but he usually writes about himself so I'm lumping him in this category lol. Me Talk Pretty One Day is a good place to start with his stuff - you will cry laughing.
I also love pop science and pop history - Mary Roach is a super approachable science writer with a quirky sense of humor. Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers is so funny and candid - she asks every question you've ever had about dead bodies and then some. I also love Bill Bryson - another very accessible and funny writer - I really loved his A Short History of Nearly Everything, which covers exactly what it says. I ADORE Oliver Sacks - he was a neurologist who wrote so movingly about what it means to be human through the experiences of his patients - The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat reads more like a book of short stories, and I weep like a baby every time I read it (I actually started tearing up thinking of a few cases.) (Btw he's also written beautiful memoirs but I like his science writing best so I'm putting him here. Bill Bryson has written memoir too.) Carl Sagan is also approachable and humane - This Demon Haunted World is my favorite of his. Andrew Solomon's The Noonday Demon: An Atlas of Depression is required reading for anyone who's dealt with mental illness, although it's difficult and painful at times (his Far From the Tree: Parents, Children, and the Search for Identity is also really good, but also difficult and painful - but worth it!)Diane Ackerman's A Natural History of the Senses has gorgeous prose and is a great book for artists and writers imo - it gets you thinking deeply about how we interact with the world.
For history, I am obsessed with this book called "The Dawn of Everything: A New History of Humanity by David Graeber and David Wengrow - it will completely upend everything you think you know about the history of homo sapians. Mike Duncan got his start podcasting - his series Revolutions is about major world revolutions and is essentially like listening to an audiobook, so it's not a surprise his books are pretty fun too. Sarah Vowell has some really fun books about quirky historical topics - her Assassination Vacation is great (she goes on a roadtrip to visit locations in America where famous assassinations took place).
And here are a few other miscellaneous non-fiction writers I enjoy - Sebastian Junger (just finished his In My Time of Dying about his near death experience - super thought-provoking - but it was A Perfect Storm that made me love him), Hunter S. Thompson (Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas), Jon Krakauer (Into the Wild), Jon Ronson (The Psychopath Test: A Journey Through the Madness Industry)
This was a fun question to think about! I hadn't realized I had such a strong preference for female writers until I actually listed all my favs out, which is an interesting thing to know about myself, so thanks for asking!
#i feel so basic for my favorites usually being their most favorite work lol#but like - they're the most famous for a reason!#asks#books

Definitely agree. Also, this is just silly knowledge on the movie lore (I have minimal/basic on the actual events) but Steele was supposed to return in the 3rd direct to DVD sequel and work together with Balto and I’m so pissed they didn’t bring him back LMAO
I wish they could have had a moment where Steele sets aside his differences w/Balto & worked with him in the first film so they could do a really watered down “Togo” and Balto collab victory
but alas, the studio needed a re-imagining that didn’t really do the exact history or events justice
I MEAN the movie balto was raised by a goose and half wolf so I don't think much was expected 😭.
Also I don't remember much of 3. Was that the one with his son? Part 2 was best imo.
If you want a good realistic medicine race movie I recommend Togo on Disney plus. The ending is sad as fuck but it does a good job of capturing the "true" story. A lot of it is still Hollywood, like Seppala not being from Norway 😒. BUT dog history wise it's really good and you can see the relationship that Seppala had with Togo who was 12 YEARS OLD when he ran 261 miles compared to a 6 year old Balto who ran 55 miles.

Mandela Catalogue HCs
heheh hyperfixation go brrrrr
Please don't yell at me if these suck im sensitive 🥺 /hj
Mark:
Would have been the best big brother to Sarah I stg
Not afraid to wear a tiara and feather boa and have a tea party with her
This towering young man sat on a dinky little plastic chair sipping imaginary tea, pinky out and all
Aaagghhhhhhh i love him
Definitely one of those "super talented, high iq, gifted kids" before the burnout hit him
Every Christmas, Easter, and birthday he'd ask his parents for a dog. He never got one :(
Not exactly a Disney adult, just a big fan of animated movies in general.
I think his favorites would be The Iron Giant, Monsters Inc, and Lilo and Stitch
Honorable mentions to The Fox and The Hound and Oliver and Company but they make him cry
Mark Heathcliff best boy 1,000,000/10
Cesar:
Cesar fans, you have my whole heart fr
You really took nothing and ran with it I can't not respect that
I see him as a total mama's boy. As far as I know, there's no mention of his dad anywhere so I imagine it's just him and his mom.
As a little boy he was like "I'm gonna be the man of the house now!" and he stuck to it like glue
Taking the trash out, doing the dishes, mowing the lawn because "Mom, you deserve to get off your feet, you're working too hard"
I think him being a mama's boy and having so much respect for her would translate into huge respect for women in general
I like the idea of him painting his nails ❤
His room is like a walk-in freezer you can literally see his breath when he sleeps
Used to skateboard but eventually "grew out of it" (he actually broke his wrist and is too scared to do it again)
Adam:
This toxic little fuck i love him
The most "dont talk to me until I've had my coffee" person you'll ever meet.
Not having consistent access to coffee must have been miserable for him when he was on the run. Doubly miserable for poor Jonah having to put up with a grouchy Adam for who even knows how long
You remember that tiktok trend from a few years ago like "I look really intimidating until I smile"? ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM ADAM!!!
He's such an angsty little shit with the most severe case of resting bitch face disease but on the rare occasion he actually smiles??? Human sunshine
Definitely the type to look down when he smiles to try and hide it
Wouldn't be caught DEAD singing out loud, but will absolutely murmur songs to himself under his breath.
Just imagining him folding laundry or cooking and singing whatever song is stuck in his head to himself I LOVE THIS MAN
He likes rock music in general but I feel like he's really into songs like Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls. Yknow those really mopey mid 2000s ballads?
Shattered by OAR, Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, stuff like that
Jonah:
Rip jonah you would've loved tiktok
Was a theater kid but he got kicked out of class. Dude was just too hyper to follow directions
What can he say? He just stole the spotlight 🤪 (he's crying inside)
Walks into every room twirling his car keys around his finger like a dork
Can not be trusted to stand still, it's best to just make him wear one of those backpack leashes for everyone's safety
A gamer but not in a toxic way. He's actually terrible at games but he thinks it's fun to dick around and goof off in them.
You knows those "girlfriend who bites" memes? That's him. He's the girlfriend who bites.
Thatcher:
You've heard of wine moms, you've heard of wine aunts, well get ready for wine dad
I feel like he paints? He strikes me as very artsy
Loves plants but can't keep them alive for shit. It's not even that he forgets to water them, he follows all the instructions, the plants just hate him
Can't sleep without a TV on, or at least some sort of white noise or music playing.
Total garbage at gift giving lmao but he's trying his best
"I got you this card. Happy birthday."
"Thatcher, this says 'My condolences'"
"I know"

@plaidypus tagged me in some thing so I guess I'll do it
Three Ships: In no particular order other than the first three that come to mind.
Sora x Riku - Kingdom Hearts: The ship of my childhood. Pretty sure the only fandom ship I have ever written fanfic for (when I was in high school....it has almost certainly been lost to time now). I fell off of KH for nearly 10 years but picked up Dream Drop Distance a couple years ago and MY GOD the gay pining. These bitches gay, good for them.
Luck x Ludovica - Tiger, Tiger: I love them, your honor....Complete nerd who's so far in the closest even she doesn't realize she's gay meets flirty eldritch god beast with a massive ego. It's a perfect combo.
Buggy x Crocodile x Mihawk - One Piece: Listen. I'm not even at Cross Guild stuff yet but the fanart. It's so spicy. It's like 75% of the reason I even started watched OP in the first place. I can pinpoint the exact piece of fanart that made me go :eyes: maybe I should watch this show... And here I am, over 300 episodes later and still going. I'm fully aware that I'm not getting to Cross Guild any time soon but I'm hooked without it anyways rip in pieces to me.
First Ever Ship: This for sure was not my first but it's the oldest one I can think of. Kovu and Kiara from Lion King 2. I have always been a sucker for the misunderstood bad boy(/girl/NB/person). Also One of Us is literally Disney's best song don't @ me.
Last Song: Tot Musica by Ado I have been listening to nothing but Ado for three weeks now and it's almost entirely because of One Piece kjahsf although my buddy introduced me to her music before the movie came out so I was already into her stuff.
Last Movie: Rocky Horror Picture Show at a Halloween party lmao. We also watched Us and Coraline.
Currently Reading: Pretty sure it was Isles of Abandonment by Cal Flyn. Very interesting read about the impact that humans have on a place after they've abandoned it. I really need to get back into listening to audio books while I'm at work...
Currently Watching: You might be surprised to hear it's One Piece. But I have slowed down a bit because Water 7/Enies Lobby broke me a little bit ;_;
Currently Consuming: Water and some mini cookies n cream bars...(my mom sent us so much fucking Halloween candy help)
Currently Craving: Nothing. Had a delicious dinner of fish and chips with some green beans that Py made and I am satisfied.
I ain't gonna tag anyone because I'm a lazy fuck. Fill this out if you wanna. Or don't.

tea or coffee: honestly I don't drink both of them too often. I drink tea when I am sick or I need something to warm me up because I hate cold. When it comes to coffee I drink it when I need to. My sleep schedule and insomnia are real bitches sometimes so I have to have something to help me not to fall asleep in the middle of the task or something. But I really like iced coffee, especially in the summer
dogs or cats: both. I love both so much it hurts because I can't have one. I have never had any pet and unfortunately it is not going to change soon and it breaks my heart 💔 But luckily a lot of my friends have pets, so guess where you can find me when we hang out? 😂
can you play an instrument? Yup, I used to play guitar but now my heart is fully devoted to the ukulele, but I would love to learn how to play the piano too
what’s your sign? Libra
favorite lyrics that pop into your head? the song originally is in Polish, but I translated it for better understanding, I hope that's okay
and to be water like this which gently wraps itself around you / warms your body, washes away the remnants of the lousy day / and calms down every nerve / amusingly will wrinkle your hands / and when you fall asleep lasts faithfully at your bed
do you have tattoos? I have four tattoos, the word unbreakable on my forearm and next to it there is a Vex's shadow (Vex is one of my favourite champs in league of legends and the shadow is her companion, so I one day I spontaneously decided I want my own shadow too lmao), above them there is a rose inspired by the one from beauty and the beast, and on the other forearm I have something like a map because I love travelling and only if I could afford it I would do it all the time
favorite place you’ve ever traveled? Malaga in Spain. I spent the best month in my life there, the place is beautiful and my memeories make it even more amazing
what’s the last movie you watched? Strange World on Disney+, I loved it, such an amazing animation 🥹
what languages do you speak? Polish is my native. I can speak English and I am learning Spanish hoping that someday it will be on the same lvl as English now. I was learning French for two years and as much as grammar wasn't hard for me pronunciation killed me and I am not able to say most things in French 😂 In primary school and hight school I was learning German but I forgot it all and best I can do is introducing myself in it lol
do you have any hobbies? music is the biggest one I guess. I love listening to music, playing it, singing, dancing. Music is a huge part of my life. Now I can say that writing too, I am so glad I came back to it after so many years, it helps me so much with some issues, like a some kind of a therapy. And due to covid lock down I was so bored I started crocheting, the beginnings were hard but now I have some projects I am really fucking proud of even if they took months to finish. And I almost forgot playing video and board games!
you can hang out with one fictional character for an hour, who do you choose? So many amazing choices but for now I have to say that Eddie Munson 😂
compliment yourself: shit this one is super hard- uh so maybe I would say that I am kinda proud of myself that I am handling two jobs and not giving up despite it is really hard sometimes. So yeah, congrats for me
@i-me-mine thank you for the tag 🥰🥰
no pressure tags: @bvcksmiller @becca-alexa @pollenallergie @phantypurple @superblysubpar

( muse j / 25 / cis woman / she, her, hers ) — did you see CARLOTA “LOTTIE” HERNANDEZ PÉREZ wandering around the island today? they kind of look like BECKY G from certain angles? i heard around town that the RECEPTIONIST is CLEVER, and FRANK, but also CYNICAL, and INSENSITIVE. people say that they remind them of LAST NIGHT’S SMUDGED EYELINER, A SHINY UMBREON, and A FERAL KITTEN, and DISLOYAL ORDER OF WATER BUFFALOES by FALL OUT BOY is definitely their theme song. they seem like a nice enough person, but we all know how hard it is to keep a pristine reputation in a small town. ( admin jay / 26 / cst / she, her, hers )
✧*・゚𝒃𝒊𝒐𝒈𝒓𝒂𝒑𝒉𝒚
first of all, lottie wants to butt in and inform you that it’s lottie, not carlota––and if that’s too difficult for you to remember, don’t talk to her at all. this is not a joke. you have been warned.
clearly, this attitude stems from somewhere, and it’s from being the middle child of her family of four (( ya girl had to get attention Somehow )). she has an older sister who she loves to hate and hates to love, and a younger brother who takes after every early 2000s disney channel show’s annoying little brother character. lottie was the resident goth stuck in the middle.
her dad split when she was in middle school with no explanation and left her mom to pick up the pieces and his massive credit card debt. lottie’s really close to her mom, but her mom is kind of a mess lmao. her mom writes trashy romance novels, and she’s really whimsical and fun...but she’s also impulsive and forgets when the bills are due.
a lot of that is because her mom grew up really quickly. her grandparents expected her mom to be perfect from a very young age, so her mom reverted to the child she never got to be once she got away from her parents––but y'know...we don't talk about generational trauma in this household.
lottie assumed the responsibility of being her mother’s keeper, and she’s pretty jaded because of it tbh. lottie vc: if you want something done At All, do it yourfuckingself.
she was Super motivated in high school and college. like she had to be the best at everything in school, and she had to get into the best universities with the best programs to prove to the world how fucking great she was.
it worked for a while. she graduated valedictorian from high school and with honors from boston u, and then she got accepted into the harvard medical program. she lasted a year and then flunked out.
lottie doesn’t talk about it ever bc like she’s so fucking humiliated that she failed, so most people wouldn’t know she went to med school at all. she kind of gave up on life after she dropped out of harvard.
her dreams were crushed, so when the hotel was hiring just about anyone with a bachelors to be a receptionist, she applied so that she’d have a paycheck to buy video games and comic books.
thanks for coming to my ted talk.
✧*・゚𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕
so i know you aren’t technically Supposed to open with a disclaimer, but, disclaimer–lottie is annoying as fuck for a variety of reasons:
1) if you get to know her, she doesn’t shut up. like, i’m just apologizing for her in advance. even when she got her tonsils out, she just used a text to speech app to pontificate on eeveelutions and jason todd despite Many protests to stop.
2) she’s incapable of admitting she’s wrong. it will never ever happen. you know that scene in malcom in the middle where they show lois the tape of her pulling out in front of the car when the cop pulled her over, and she was like the tape is wrong. that’s lottie–and she’d like to point out that lois was proven to be right, thank you very much.
she’s a giant nerd. obvi. she’s obsessed with quantum theory, organic chemistry, and biology, specifically, but also, y’know, ridiculous superheroes and anime.
she’s also a punk nerd; music is v, v important to her. her favorite bands are probably fall out boy pre-mania, blink before tom delonge left for the final time, green day always, the offspring, and sum 41. pls roast her. who does she think she is.
also, not a personality trait but v important, she was a goth in high school, and not a cool one lmao.
she doesn’t believe in relationships bc she’s like that’s so much effort for so little reward, so she mostly sleeps around with men who she knows are completely wrong for her no matter the consequences.
she’s a not-so-secret pessimist. it’s v annoying, and i’m sorry.
✧*・゚𝒘𝒂𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒅
best friend: ( m, f, nb ), squad ( m, f, nb), childhood friends: ( m, f, nb ), roommates: ( m, f, nb ), fwb: (m, nb), casual hookups ( m, nb), ex: ( m, nb )
all the connections tbh. slide into my dms, or like this and i’ll hit you up !

I saw Wish! It was cute, and overall I think it was okay. It had some lovely callbacks, and was entirely original in its main plot, which is nice.
A lot of the issues people theorized it would have (pop-y songs, overdose on adorkability*, generic culture for the characters and outfits, imperfect casting in relation to character’s ethnicities, commercialization upon modern social justice interests such as reformation, and inability to commit to darkness) were there.
*man I usually love talking animals but like. Sidekicks are supposed to be comic relief and support, not distractions. Valentino wasn’t that bad, but still. Then again, I’m not the target audience. I do love that he was a baby goat. (As someone who has helped baby goats, unless they’re cold, they HATE clothes. When they’re cold, then they can just fall asleep in them, it’s very cute.)
But there were good points too (nods to Disney history without distracting the narrative, no romantic storyline* a genuine villain with a in-story further descent, desperate **betrayal spurred on by the societal structure the villain/government sought to preserve, themes of a right to self-determination and liberty vs. ‘protection’, how privilege warps you and makes you defensive, different body types and abilities, lovely animation, and so on).
*for the record, I love romance, and I know the last couple DP movies had no romances either. But idk how you could watch Raya and the Last Dragon and not even THINK about Rayaari lol.
*as soon as I saw the character, I thought ‘Oh he looks like Hans’ and I knew lmao
To comment specifically on Asha: her character creation definitely fell into the adorkability trap. But she’s very sweet, loving and capable, and I really enjoyed her relationship with her family. Making her a fairy (?) godmother at the end totally fit with her story. And her actress, Ariana DeBose, has a fantastic voice, and I can tell she totally gave it her all.
I’m glad her Mom isn’t dead (classic female protagonist issue) but I do have reservations that both Black princesses have dead Dads. I’m by no means the most qualified to speak on that, but I do know that it’s an issue often raised by Black fans on Black character’s backstories.
I do really, really love that Asha is mixed though. I know there’s a lot of issues of colorism* in Hollywood, both in live action and animated productions, but as a sister to a mixed Black boy, I know how much characters like Asha would have meant to my brother as a kid.
*interestingly enough, the movie didn’t fall into the trap of the lady half of the pairing being light than her male partner. Asha’s paternal family is white, and her Mom is Black.
My brother was never into Disney Princesses, but when Miles Morales (from Spider-verse) came out in 2018, right before my brother turned 13, and I think that was the first time he really connected to another kid character on screen. Miles is arguably mixed, often feels like a fish out of water, and grew up too damn fast, both physically* and emotionally. And I know that there has to be a bunch of little kids (and adults too!) who see Asha and feel seen. And I’m so glad for them.
*my brother was always tall, but he hit 6 feet by age 14, is 6’6 (183cm) now, and may still be growing, much to his chagrin.
Wish is not the magnum opus of Disney. Out of the two animated theatrical films Disney put out this year, I think Elemental is the better of the two*. But by no means do I think it’s terrible. It was genuinely fine.
Interestingly enough though, I do believe it to be an incredibly accurate representation of Disney’s modern output and behavior. Perhaps in that sense, it is a triumph.
*though I’m severely biased. I saw that movie 6 times in theatres and coincidentally rewatched it today. I cried each time.
Also for the record, I nearly finished* painting an Asha doll before I saw the movie today. I felt very pleased with myself. Here she is next to a Kida doll that I finished today.**
*I forgot her necklace and got her shoe color wrong, ugh. And I think I’ll try to make her side-braid’s more apparent. I will keep the flower though, just as a nod to both of her sidekicks and because I think it’s pretty lol
** Disney put out a line of mini Disney princess dolls that I … kind of became obsessed with. And have been painting to look like other Disney female Protagonists lol. Kida has an Aurora head (hence the unfortunately small nose) and a Moana body, while Asha has a Moana head (hair texture roughly matched) and a Elsa body (white and purple outfit from the sequel). If you’d like to see more, I have a post from a couple weeks ago about my work so far.

man the new disney world pics. he's so handsome sure, but there's no denying that he looks 41 and she looks younger than 25 bc of her baby face. it is not looking good for christopher😵💫... i think his whole "wants to get married and settle down" spiel has gotten him in some v hot water. tbh he probably just likes the idea of it but is just a whore/fuckboy in reality. just like me, but the only difference is i'm 24 and haven't spent the last couple years of my life creating a clean cut image of myself in the media.
He's stuck as the same person he was at 20 but time is catching up to him
He probably got a real scare when those greys started peeking out lmao
I agree, i know they curated that image bc of marvel, but then he should have ditched it soon after instead of trying to maintain it (and lying). Mans really went on a tour all summer talking about wanting to find love and settle down and how dodger was his long term partner only to reveal he's been seriously dating a 25 year old for over a year (although that timeline is bs, unless they had an open relationship up until recently lol)

all my mlp ocs in order of creation
DayDreamBreeze. also my original gamertag on minecraft! i uhm. shes not supposed to be a cheese changling. She's inspired by a fluttershy toy i had and the beautiful artwork for the honey queen chrysalis from ink rose's interpretation of her backstory. i swapped the honey for water and she's supposed to be a pegasus? but i drew her as a changling here for some reason and i have no clue why
Casey Cockatrice. Seeing pony youtubers discuss the show in their oc form, and thinking "wow, they're all just pegasi" i was like "i should do that but not be a pegasus" so i made an oc and never did that lol. probably a good thing though. anyhow. Casey was originally supposed to be an angel cockatrice but I didn't know how to do that without just making a chicken with a lizard tail until just now im realizing i should make it a dutchie omg. Casey enjoys the ponies and wants to befriend them but is confined to the everfree forest, so she has dawned a blindfold so she doesnt hurt anyone and she likes to hang out with zecora and collect herbs with her. she still just kinda does chicken/dragon things most of the time like pecking at the ground and sitting on treasure. The ring in her comb is supposed to be a halo. halos stuck in the character's design physically (usually through the hair or something similar) was a common thing i did for characters that were close to me at the time.
Lemon Lily. She is. very bright. she was supposed to have a much more subtle color palette but i didnt do that and now she looks like sprite lmao. anyhow. i drew her randomly when i went through a small mlp phase a few years ago, mainly just attraction for chrysalis, but i guess she exists. her cutie mark is supposed to look like a water lily made of lemons but it kinda just looks weird idk. i'd say her talent is supposed to be like.. maybe floral arrangement? i think i had some inspiration from early mlp background ponies and i remember the florists were my favorite.
JASON!! my favorite little idiot. he's a griffin i made in pony.town after realizing if i use the singular freckle and closed the eyes, it looked like he had tiny eyes and angry brows lol. all i do with him is act vaguely like skydoesminecraft and boop people with my bird fingers.
DayDreamBreeze 2.0. i literally drew this bitch and didn't do anything else with them. ever.
then is autumn breeze whom i've drawn literally in like my last post so im not doing it again rn. she's my LOE pony and if you want her lore go to the post where i drew her on my phone.
Honey Suckle. The only OC that I have surviving evidence of actually writing their backstory and whatnot. They were created with the idea of them experimenting on their body trying to turn themselves into a bee (basically beeatris as a horse, i know none of you know my persona beeatris but its pretty much her without the demonic activity and disney fairy influence), though i have thought of maybe changing it to her wanting to become a breezy or a changeling. She lost her horn because of this experimentation and is fluffier and has patches of hair on her eyes because of it. i forgot if she had a cutie mark or if i just didnt draw it or if it's overgrown? I think a lot of this character's experimentation was based off of memories of my brother who had leukemia and tried experimental treatments, mainly the fuzziness he got from his chemo or steroids i forgot which one it was. I also drew her as a kirin, idk if that was supposed to be a thing of like.. me doing it as an alternate idea of what she's aiming to achieve, as an alternate form of what she was born as.. or if it was just a doodle.. but it was pretty cool. a good quote for her is the vine thats like "i am a wolf on all levels but physical"
Next is Pegasus. I originally had a different name for them but i don't think i can share it here. Pegasus is also related to my brother though and is very cool. they're really just a celestial body as a pony like Celestia and Luna, but with more of a crystal pony inspiration. also, they speak enchanting table only and i think thats really funny. same size as Luna. also, she can hide in Luna's hair.
Stone Hoof. based somewhat off of Smokey Quartz from Steven Universe, i thought it'd be cool to also give them speckling like an appaloosa horse or vitiligo. you can't see their cutie mark but it's supposed to be a yoyo and i put it in the shape of the symbol of leo since im a leo and i designed them on the same day as pegasus lol. they are intended to be a friend to Honey Suckle.
Finally, we have... I didn't name this one actually. uhm. well! it looks kinda like scootaloo, especially g3 or 3.5. which was unintentional but she was one of my favorite ponies and i had a few toys of her so it kinda makes sense that this is what my brain thought of when i thought "well loved my little pony doll". The hair is based off of the fettucine hair on those g4 plushies and also somewhat based on dreads. the patterns on their hooves is the heartshaped horseshoe from those promotional toys where you can scan them in for video game perks. and the wings are colored after discord's wings. I also got inspo from Stitches from Animal Crossing.
those are the horses. 1 like = 1 more horse post.
i also have customs i made as a kid that i dont have pictures of but i could redraw. but they're basically just "this character but i painted this animal on their face."

What's your favorite movie, if you have any?
I HAVE SO MANY FAVORITES IS THIS AN EXCUSE TO RAMBLE???
so this is a long list of movies i have curated love for over the years so its under a readmore lmao not so much reviews but lots of gushing
now i cant choose an all time favorite. its just not possible im so passionate about so many different movies. but some of my fav fav fav movies ever are
Studio Ghibli's 'Laputa: Castle in the Sky' (1986)
ghibli's first full length film and hayao miyazaki's second full length film (as far as im aware, ive seen nausicaa too) and it is honestly a masterpiece, like damn what a way to start off your animation studio. this movie is both wholesome and very bittersweet. it has amazing characters, both villain, anti-hero, and hero. plus the romance between pazu and sheetah is so innocent and passionate. theres really such a fantastical element about this entire film its so inspiring to me and i hold it near and dear to my heart, i cry every time.
Jim Hensons 'The Labyrinth' (1986)
this was a childhood favorite of mine. my family LOVES jim hensons dark fantasy, and my brother and i grew up with this movie and the dark crystal (yes i watched the netflix series. yes i am forever bitter netflix cancelled it because it was truly so stunning) and the labyrinth was always my preference over the two even tho i do love both a lot. but this movie was just...so mesmerizing. my favorite scene is actually the ballroom fever dream scene. idk what most peoples' opinions on that scene is but it was soooo stunning to me i adored every bit of it. her whole LOOK THO!!!!!
Studio Chizu's 'Wolf Children: Ame and Yuki' (2012)
STUNNING MOVIE I CRY EVERY TIME!!!! not only does this woman win mother of the goddamn decade but this is such a strong coming of age story for not one protagonist, but THREE. its a coming of age for everyone in that family and how to find your own path and acceptance with growth and change. plus the animation is sooo stunning studio chizu has been slappin since the girl who leapt through time and such before then, but i was just soooo stunned by this movie's ability to mix the fluidity of their 2D and 3D. 3D animes can be rly hit or miss but they did this so well. beautiful stunning amazing movie 12/10 very recommend
Satoshi Kon's 'Perfect Blue' (1997)
this movie fucked me up and when i tell you ive seen it like 10 times LMAO its a psychological thriller and man the content warnings on this one.....its a bit of a traumatizing experience if youre a sexual abuse victim, but its Such a good watch. its got a rly good twist that i personally cant say is very good or not, its probably a bitttt dated. but its not focused on that one thing. this movie follows the trauma of mima and how she was treated by her higher ups and crew into doing things she was not nearly ready for or even wanted to do...but to make it to the top, what else can you do?
Disney's 'Atlantis: The Lost Empire' (2001)
MY FAV FAV FAV DISNEY MOVIE EVER!!!!! say what u want about this movie but its one of disney's BEST!!!! the scene where kida is taken into the crystal light above the pool of water and becomes apart of the crystal? dude that scene Changed Me. so good i love it chefs kiss muah amazing fun movie
Disney's 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' (1996)
probably disney's darkest movie idk there are some classics from the 60s to 80s that i havent rly seen, but this movie gives me chills every time. the soundtrack? slaps. animation? slaps (thank u james baxter) characters? slap. this movie is SO GOOD and hypnotizing!!! and its so bold.
disney 2020s doesnt have the balls
Disney's 'Tangled' (2010)
FAV DISNEY PRINCESS FAV DISNEY PRINCESS MOVIE!!! i watched this shortly after it's dvd release because my mom bought it cause we always been a disney household and i fell in love with this one. yes i did watch the series. yes i did cry a couple times. tangled has my heart <3
Warner Bros' 'Cats Don't Dance' (1997)
FURRY MOVIE FURRY MOVIE!!! this movie got me into furries realistically. i love everything about this movie its so fun and charming and it has a very nice message of following your dreams while still being authentic to yourself. also lowkey about racism and prejudice in hollywood in the 1920s/1930s cough cough
Studio Ghibli's 'Spirited Away' (2001)
HOW CAN I ALMOST FORGET THIS CLASSIC??? my first ghibli movie!!! and it was such an introduction to miyazaki movies. it is such a fantastical take on japanese folklore. i for one am fascinated by japanese folklore, mythology, and culture in general so this movie is always such a treat and i can never get enough of it. one of my all time favorite movies, such a masterpiece.
Makoto Shinaki's 'Children Who Chase Lost Voices' (2011)
now this is one of shinaki's lesser known movies, but its my absolute favorite of his. this animation is still so stunning for 2011, and i can only imagine how impressive it was then considering how his stuff looks now lol but this is a high fantasy movie with miyu irino (♥♥♥♥) voicing the hero. dont ask me the rest of the cast i just hyperfixate on miyu irino specifically because he voices syaoran in the tsubasa series
ANYWAY!!! thats enough of that i could honestly go on and on but i figure i wont make this post any longer than it has to be hahaha thank you so much for the question!!!
#notice how theres only one live action but it still has artistic elements lMAO#i do not watch live action movies i shit u not its so rare for me#like i just#i sleep#yknow?

much conflict on the internet stems from the fact that there are no longer multiply webbed sites so catholics do not stay on catholicforum.com or whatever and become enraged over having to interact with jews and heretics, harry potter nerds and adults who really like Disney do not have a containment zone and spill into where they are not wanted, 13 year olds who should be on club penguin and roblox instead share websites with undergrad social scientists and amateur erotic models and develop brain poisoning from porn and theory they dont understand

Have you ever gotten lost while on a road trip? Wait, this is going to sound really stupid but I just had a thought after reading this question: what exactly constitutes a road trip? You know what I mean, like I’ve been on long car rides, some were like 12 hours, but were those road trips or just long car rides? I feel like a road trip is specific thing. lmao, this is dumb but I’ve really never thought of it before now and I’m curious.
When did you last have some lemonade? I honestly have no idea. It’s been a very, very long time.
Who is your celebrity crush? Alexander Skarsgard.
If you had to choose a random color to dye your hair, what would you choose? I’d love to dye my hair red again. I really miss it.

What last made you anxious? My anxiety disorder.

Have you ever been on a doubledate? Yes.
What radio station do you listen to most? I haven’t listened to the radio in years.

What's a type of cheese or cheese alternative that you enjoy? Oooh, I love various types of cheeses.

What's the fanciest event you've ever attended? I haven’t been to any fancy events.

I feel like every school has one. What was a school scandal your town's school had? Meh.
Do you save or spend more money? I’ve gotten a lot better with saving. I gotta give my hospital stay last year and the continued bedrest at home since then the credit for that. I’m not going anywhere and I’m kinda just cycling through a few of my shirts cause of comfortability and convenience factors. So, I’m not wearing much of my wardrobe at all right now, which sucks and also means I certainly don’t need any new clothes. It’s hard to get into looking at accessories and shoes as well cause again--not going anywhere. I miss shopping. :(
Do you listen to podcasts? I only watch this one, called, “Foolish Mortals”, and it’s Disney related stuff. I just really enjoy two cohosts and their own YouTube channels as well. They seem like cool dudes.
What is your favorite dish to cook? I don’t cook. I don’t even make ramen anymore.
If you have pets, what would you ask them if they could speak? Oh my goodness, soooo many things.
How do you deal with stress? Not well.
What compliment did you last receive? *shrug*
If you were president, what's one thing you'd change about your country? I absolutely would never like to be president. Ever.
Would you rather get a facial or massage? Maybe a facial.
If you were offered a super bowl ad, would you create a commercial and what would it be like? --
When did you last feel an adrenaline rush? It’s been a very long time since I’ve felt that.
Who is tallest in your family? My dad and brother.
What's the oldest article of clothing you own look like? They’re my high school class shirts.
When did you last mess something up? Oh buddy, I’ve been messing shit up for a very long time.
Do you write in a journal? This is it.
What's something you're confident in? Nothing...
Have you ever received a strange gift? Nah.
Do you currently have a headache? Not at the moment.
What's something you have on your bucket list? I want to travelllllllll.
