Being so serious when I say that NOW more than ever, if you live in the US, you NEED to preserve physical media.

- Physical books, ESPECIALLY commonly banned/likely to be banned ones (not just the classics - those are important, but people are much more likely to have those secured. I'm talking children's literature, especially non-white and LGBTQIA stories. I'm talking religious texts, gardening books, crafting books ((sewing especially)), dictionaries/books in other languages, ESPECIALLY native American languages - get em all)

- Physical music - CDs, records, cassettes, whatever you can get your hands on. If you have the ability to get the supplies to burn your own CDs with modern music, even better. Songs about dissent and rebellion, queerness, blackness, a lot of punk/rock/rap, will be the first stuff to be targeted

- Movies - DVDs, VHS, whatever. We've seen with Netflix removing their own original shows that content can disappear off the face of the earth with a snap. I've been collecting my favorite movies from childhood, highly recommend you do the same

- Cookbooks. In a worst case scenario, it is very handy to have recipes in a physical book. Most cookbooks also have sections with information on how to properly and safely cook many foods, which can be helpful. If you don't own a cookbook, start by taking your favorite recipes from online and either print them out and put them in a folder OR do what I do and hand copy them into a notebook (your hand will hurt but you can personalize the recipes easily that way!)

We are entering an age where our media is being controlled by fewer and fewer people, one big monopoly. Preserve it while we can. And while you're at it, read Fahrenheit 451. It is, in my opinion, one of the most important banned books you could ever read to understand WHY the preservation of media is so important

I remember taking a class about it in high school and was intrigued about all the sea critters & how we impact their ecosystems. But having to study around in the middle of the ocean, in the dark, most likely far away from civilization, not to mention the fact that I can't swim at all, well...

Something you're good at: I think I’m a good support system to my friends/loved ones when they talk about their personal issues going on in their lives & I just do my best to listen to them and give them words of encouragement.

Are you musical?: I'm not gonna lie, I really didn't really care for musicals, especially in high school. HOWEVER, the pandemic lockdown changed my view on musicals. I'll forever be grateful for the Tumblr anon who recommended me Six the Musical. I also never learned to play a musical instrument.

What were you like as a child?: A complete wildcard, that's for damn sure! As of recent years, my family & I have reason to believe that I went undiagnosed of autism my entire childhood & we never really noticed bc my brother's diagnosis was more evident when we were little. But other than that, I was a shy Bratz/PPG/Sanrio/Disney Princess/Monster High girlie!

Favorite subject at school?: Marine Biology, Psychology, History, & Ceramics (yes we had a ceramics class in high school & I loved how chill it was)

one day reader's wings being clipped and no longer being airborne so now fls turn to help them out and care for them. they go on a journey to maybe uncurse the reader/get her wings back/look for a healer

the feathers on your wings flare as you stop in your tracks, immediately reaching for the blade you keep on hand at all times until you spot the splashes of dark, starry blood already seeping from multiple gashes and punctures, and the monster cranes its head to look up at you, letting out a heartbreakingly pained whimper

slowly, you lower your weapon, and the creature visibly slumps in relief

his name is Foul Legacy, you learn, and you're fairly convinced that he's the singular sweetest monster in the Abyss, if not the entirety of Teyvat. even when he's injured and can barely walk he insists on trying to follow you around the house, chirping curiously and poking at what you're doing or watching intently as you treat his injuries- soon the mortals who see you start spreading rumors of how you're accompanied by an intimidating but friendly beast, although he allows no one but you to touch him. Foul Legacy is particularly entranced by your wings, gently nudging them and fluttering his own with happy chirps. you're faster than he is, as tengu are known for their speed, but nighttime flights become a favorite pass time for you and him, especially when you can look up and see all the stars and their stories

so when one of your wings is grievously injured during a horrible lightning storm, Legacy shakes off his fear and prepares to venture into town in search of a proper doctor, not as a repayment, but as your friend

I’ve been avoiding more social media in general. It’s hard because I still use several to communicate with friends and people I care about. But I’m trying to replace doom scrolling with other things. Even if they aren’t productive or “good” like watching TV or rewatching that childhood movie you’ve seen 100 times and could quote by heart. Hell, I’ve been taking extra naps. I’ve been trying to read more (both informative political or mental health books and some just for fun). I even started playing meaningless games on my phone again. Yes it’s important to stay up to date on information. It’s a privilege to not know what’s going on. But that’s not what I’m advocating for. I personally have been for a lack of better words overdosing on social media. Yes you need to know what’s going on in the world. But do you really need to know what your cousins boyfriends ex wife thinks about it? Or that one actor in your favorite childhood show that has concerning beliefs now? This is a call out to myself as much as anyone. Tumblr is a little less of a hell scape so I’m going to be on here more, but I encourage you to put the phone down. Or at least play a game or music or read a book. (You can do that for free on your phone with your library card. And if you do not have a library card you need to go get one that’s your task for today) Stop letting yourself be propagandized and advertised to for free.

I’m not quitting socials all together. But my goal is to be intentional with what I use, how I use it, and how long I use it. Because the important part of activism is self preservation. I can not fight for those like me and others if I am not taken care of myself. 🏳️‍⚧️

I deleted TikTok last night, at least for a while. I’m not (more) concerned about my online privacy in 2025 - that ship has loooong sailed - but I think I need to take a stance against being aggressively propagandized to.
