hiii, Estelle! oh I love a good crime movie! I grew up on gangster and mob movies tbh so there's some obvious choices like the godfather and goodfellas. continuing with Scorsese, I love casino. I think it's somewhat underrated Scorsese, idk i just don't see it mentioned that often, but it's super fun. the departed as well, people talked shit about it, but it's great. then mean streets, serpico, taxi driver, dog day afternoon, heat, collateral, thief, chinatown. pretty much every Tarantino ever, obviously reservoir dogs and pulp fiction, jackie brown is my favourite and the sort of song of the movie is across 110th street from the movie of the same name, so I'd def recommend that one, it's an underrated flick. heist movie-wise, ocean's eleven kind of the king here. then set it off, bound, inside man, widows, the italian job (the original), topkapi and rififi are underrated ones, the asphalt jungle, the friends of eddie coyle, the taking of pelham 123, the thomas crown affair (the remake), dead presidents, out of sight, point break, the driver, hustlers, a fish called wanda is sooo funny. sexy beast is such a great and intense movie.

if you'd enjoy something criminal and psychosexual, I'd recommend two 60s movies the housemaid and who killed teddy bear? the cook, the thief, the wife and her lover is an insane sexy one. blue velvet fits here as well. Guy Ritchie made the same movie like 4 times tbh, but I love snatch and lock, stock and two smoking barrels, I think the man from uncle is also a fun one. Brian De Palma is good at corny and sleazy and I kinda love his scarface. body double is silly but I love a good voyeuristic movie. along those lines you obviously have rear window and peeping tom, and then to continue with Hitchcock, I love rope, psycho, and think dial m for murder is quite overlooked. natural born killers, true romance and the doom generation for something stupid and bloody. mandatory Fincher recs like se7en and zodiac. I love the usual suspects, it has that twist at the end that for me personally works even upon rewatches. another underrated movie is joy house with beautiful Jane Fonda and Alain Delon in his prime. faster pussycat kill kill is just pure fun and sleaze and gorgeous ladies. I love lady snowblood and scorpion with Meiko Kaji but I know you've seen those. tokyo drifter is a stylish one as well. some obvi french new wave recs like breathless and pierrot le fou. I'd say there's nothing quite like the atmospheric the night of the hunter. I love drive too, it's all style and the only substance is blood. uncut gems and good time are quite good too. out of something extra new, I enjoyed love lies bleeding more than I expected. seven psychopaths and in bruges for something cynical and silly. then fargo, no country for old men, the big lebowski. filth and trainspotting for something utterly dirty and disgusting. not to forget Hannibal Lecter, we can't not mention the silence of the lambs and manhunter. also badlands, dirty harry, carlito's way, eastern promises, the third man, the big sleep, double indemnity, gun crazy, bonnie and clyde, foxy brown, american psycho, the talented mr ripley, prisoners. something more along crime drama strange days, fallen angels, the city of the rising sun and made in hong kong.

Okay, so last week my sleep schedule was beyond fucked up and I had a friend staying with me so I didn’t get to watch the new CM until WAY too late and my reactions were barely existent and I almost fell asleep before it ended cause it was almost 6am by then. One of the things that is so compelling to me about Brian and Michael is allll the history between them. There is so much to explore and never get bored. The teen era is very special because that's where this incredible connection was first formed, and it's so interesting to me!

So my brother and I celebrated Christmas by watching House of Wax (1953)! My thoughts are thus:

CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE: Author of this post is into wax torture, which may have disproportionately affected her enjoyment of certain versions of this film over others 🤷

I really liked it! The only thing is that me having started out with the 2005 version of this movie, which is by FAR the most insane and extreme version out of the 3 House of Wax films, really kinda makes the older ones pale in comparison horror-wise, lol. The whole time watching the older ones I’m like but they’re already dead?? That’s not hot scary at all 😒

Objectively tho, it IS super creepy, and I love that this version of the film (vs 1933) really dialed up the horror aspect, with the extended scenes of the wax figures melting, more scenes of Jarrod’s facial scarring/burns, etc. Makes sense I guess, since 1933 was apparently billed as more of a mystery/crime thriller than a horror film.

OH, I’d be remiss not to mention 1953’s gimmicky 3D LOL. Was NOT expecting that in a 50s movie. The part where the guy paddleballs at the screen for like a whole 5 minute scene?? Wild. Totally took me out of the moment. Kinda loved the sheer blatantness of it

Unfortunately, the leading lady in this version can’t hold a candle to Florence (Glenda Farrell) from 1933. Florence was by FAR the best of the three movies’ Final Girls (sorry Carly, I do like you, too 😞). She was fucking hysterical, her line delivery was off the shits and her energy carried the whole movie imo. The woman from 1953 (Sue I think?? I can’t even remember hhh) was so forgettable, good lord.

Of course, Vincent Price was incredible. I’m not sure if I could say who made the “better” villain between him and Brian Van Holt as Bo+Vincent, they served such different roles and both turned in excellent performances. I do think that watching the first 2 versions of the movie makes the decision to turn the third version into a hicksploitation teen slasher hilariously baffling. Still a fave of mine, tho 💕

Overall 8/10.

Now when are we getting another remake?? Because I have some ideas…….

I can’t imagine how that works Kelly being her ex but still being her best friend while dating Brian like when Otis and Kelly are in a tiff would she automatically take Brian’s now they’re a couple? Even if she refuses to take anyone’s side you know Otis will see that as a problem he’d want her to be on his side no matter otherwise to Otis it looks like she still has feelings for Kelly (I love Otis but he can be petty just for being petty sake but everyone has flaws).

I think in this case, the specific fics case, since it’s after the whole Rice situation there isn’t really much else that Kelly and Otis disagree on… I don’t think anyway, I honestly can’t remember… but I think as far as taking sides goes, she would try to look at things from both perspectives and offer her opinion to both of them, but would explicitly state that she’s not taking sides

but I think if she knows one of them is right then she’ll try and talk to the other one and explain it, as it may come across better coming from her rather that either of the guys… she would also ban any talk of it at home as she’d probably get fed up listening to it and there would definitely be a night where Otis ended up on the couch cause he annoyed her so much going on about it

Paul realises he’d zoned out, staring blankly at Robert, bent over the sink, snorting a line.

2. John takes a long inhale of smoke as he watches Paul talking to one of the camera guys outside. His breath fogs up the bus window a bit, the evening air causing a cloud of condensation to spread, blurring Paul and the camera guy to nothing. When it shrinks back to dribbles of moisture, Paul’s hands are moving—explaining a shot, or a scene, or a fucking dream he had that he’d like this poor sod to turn into reality.

3. Paul can't pinpoint exactly where his night deteriorated, but it was probably somewhere after Brian left The Cavern for the evening, and Neil had driven away with all their gear, and John—realising that they'd lost the closest thing they had to adult supervision—loftily announced that he was getting married tomorrow and so everyone should buy him pints about it.

4. John doesn't notice him at first, engaged in answering a question for the crowd of journalists in front of him. Paul's half-hidden among the shelves anyway, peeking over to get a good look at John in his element.

5. John's not sure how they get onto the topic. They're in the canteen—just the two of them for the moment—talking in circles around each other, under the guise of talking about George, edging towards an argument but never really landing there. Just half-chastising, and half-imploring each other to be different people entirely without really saying it. And then, suddenly, they're talking about it.

7. Paul shows up late to their show. It's unlike Paul to be late, which makes it annoying enough, considering how much he'd whine about it if it were any of the rest of them, but then he has the gall to say it's because he was doing something for his dad.

8. After the Bob Wooler incident—the first but not last time Jane questions Paul’s association with the likes of John Lennon—Paul tells her: “He can be quite lovely when you get to know him.”

9. Paul feels lazy and warm as he sucks in another drag of the spliff John rolled them. He closes his eyes as he exhales. It only serves to heighten his sluggish senses. He could fall asleep like this, lost in the sensations of his lovely geodesic dome. He can feel every thread of the rug they're lying on; can hear Martha's soft snores from where she sleeps, her head pillowed on John's ankle. Hi! I will send you some asks! Saul is my fave but I love the adult characters a lot (a few younger ones have grown on me this S2 though). I have been looking for good FTWS blogs (that like Saul, Farah etc) to engage with! Here is my first ask: What 5 questions would you ask Brian Young & Team if they had to answer? I have pages of them. (my list is a little skewed towards Saul and the the adult characters but I have broader questions to).

I really had to take my time to answer this one because I had to narrow down the 5 questions, I'm so indecisive it's tragic but anyway (my questions are also screwed towards the adult characters lol)

First things first, I agree 100%, the Fate adult characters are so interesting and I could probably rant about them forever (istg the amount of essays I have in my drafts is insane). Also I love Saul too he's amazing, him and Farah are both tied for my no.1 spot tbh.

1. First one is quite obvious, I'd ask for the original storyline/storyboard of what was supposed to happen with the Farah storyline in season 2 because it definitely was supposed to be different and even if it didn't happen I would have loved to know where the writers wanted it to go.

2. What inspired them to create the back story for the 'Light Battalion'? Because although we didn't get to see that much of them, really just the relevant parts that related to Bloom's storyline, there were lines and moments throughout the show between the adult characters that really convinced me that they enjoyed creating this back story and there was so much more to be seen that probably was written just never made it to the final product.

3. Would Farah have transformed in season 2 if she actually came back? I've really been wondering about this and I have a theory on it that I'll post separately from this, but Farah obviously explains to the girls how it works so she probably would've been able to transform then.

4. Why did Rosalind kill Farah and not just explain the whole Boood Witch thing? Farah wouldn't want Blood Witches running around taking Fairies' magic or gaining power any more than Rosalind would, same with Saul, so why did she feel the need to get rid of them when they could've just gotten the band back together lol

5. Why was everyone betraying Saul like that in season 2? Sky, Ben, Sebastian, I mean my poor man has no one left now, and it makes me sad cause I know Farah would've stuck by him if she came back.
