For me, Holy Ghost is already a hard listen but if I heard it a couple of years ago it would’ve decimated me, from the band’s past records Holy Ghost immediately sets itself apart with being (imo) more mature in dealing with loss and recovery over singing about young love

even without the context provided by the documentary (cw for suicide and death), I find Holy Ghost a musical gut punch especially with the opening track which bares the same name as the album. The strength of that punch only gets worse after watching Tripping In The Dark imo. Also, the inner sleeve of the record has “For papa” front and centre which decimates me, I lost a grandparent who meant the wolrd to me a few years ago and Jake Ewald’s lyrcism really hits home to me I consider Jake a very adapt lyricist, pretty much a writer with a guitar accomapying his words, and it find it particularly powerful that someone who can take even mundane, run-of-the-mill issues like young love and make them interesting and poetic screams the loudest he ever has on a MoBo song “what do I really want to say?” on Notes To Self is fucking gut wrenching
