bloody ittosara but they're ACTUAL enemies to lovers here not some sugarcoated ship where it's one guy fawning over the other. in my Grand Design ittosara starts as genuine enemies where one is a pro-authority goody two shoes and the other is staunchly against being forced to conform ☝️

Eris chuckled softly. Enough to make Azriel’s hazel eyes glaze with rage as he settled them upon the High Lord’s son. Eris only inclined his head to the shadowsinger. — acowar ch 26
Art by @lib-arts, commissioned by me. I was lucky enough to be selected in her giveaway <3
There’s something so delicious about two mortal enemies being tied together by fate. I wanted this art to capture the spirit of the Azris ship—the hostility between them, the potential for growth, for change, and for overcoming prejudice—and Lib did such an incredible job making that happen :)

ships i like and why i ship them: a small, affectionate rant before bed
zhongchi: probably the first ship i ever interacted with. i may have started playing genshin for them. I specifically remember reading modern, non canon au fics on ao3 when i was still low AR and did not have liyue unlocked yet just to enjoy content of them without spoiling the story too much. those were good times
love the betrayal, the reciprocated manipulations, their individual bloody pasts and their juxtaposing love for humanity/family. the marriage chopsticks. god, the amount of threads I've read explaining those... and ofc you can't forget the official art with them by the harbor with the gingko leaves falling cinematically. i think that's the art that drew me to them lol
there's also something so deliciously tragic about a near-immortal being who's fated to succumb to erosion in due time, falling in love with a mortal man who's always within death's cold embrace. not to mention the subtext of their themes and principles. geo and hydro, stability and turbulence, land and sea, they crystallize when they meet in the middle, etc etc
kaeluc: another pairing I enjoyed the absolute shit out of, way back when I wasn't even playing the game yet. I remember learning about them while I was deep in my mxtx phase, specifically tgcf, and I'm pretty sure I dipped my toes in after I learned that they used to be sworn brothers. keywords here being used to. hook, line, and sinker. before I knew it, I was also reading fanfics about them, but only modern, non canon au ones because genshin terms made no sense to me and i didn't want spoilers. then I played the game. and then—we get Kaeya for free. I mained the shit out of that man for months.
and then. I fully entered the fandom, only to be immediately slapped in the face with the mistranslation issue.
and I get it, honestly, if you like ragbros good for you, I'm happy for you, but me personally, I will scorn hyv until the day I fucking die because had they not messed this up? kaeluc would've have been so powerful. KAELUC WOULD HAVE BEEN SO FUCKING POWERFUL
how could they not be? they're childhood friends but they're also forbidden romance coded, and rivals/enemies coded, but they're also soulmates. they don't just know each other, they're two halves of a whole, they know each other.
and the themes, don't even get me started on their themes. fire and ice, red and blue... paimon's line about them being similar (i.e. kaeya's a shady mf who fights in the day/diluc's a bright fire in the night) is one of the most romantic lines ever. they're sun and moon but only because they complete each other. also, lamp grass and calla lily? that's them as flowers, but they're the other person's ascension material like hello???????? fucking wild.
and ofc this kaeluc section can't end without me mentioning arundolyn and rostam. for those who don't know or have read/heard of those names but never really dug deep into it, arundolyn and rostam were knights of favonius around the same time as the cataclysm, and you can read about them in artifact sets such as brave heart, defender's will; and partially from the elegy bow
the reason they're here is because there are too many damn parallels between them and kaeluc to just be a coincidence.
arundolyn was a claymore user (see: ferrous shadow), he was the "lion of light,"; he was naturally gifted in strength but still trained hard and would later become the grand master of the knights; he'd push rostam to drink wine and tell him to have a little fun; he gives up his title and weapon after rostam dies
on the flip side, rostam was the swordsman who created the art of favonius bladework (see: favonius sword), his title was, "wolf pup,"; when he and arundolyn played as children, he was the stand-in for the champion knight of aristocracy; he "ruled the shadows," by protecting mond with ways the knights did not approve; rostam dies in an expedition to expunge the evils poured forth from the cataclysm...
I'll let you connect the dots there. I just also wanna point out, as a final note, that in the favonius sword's description, it says, "the childhood friend and spiritual counterpart of Arundolyn, the Lion of Light, whose name was Rostam, the Wolf Pup." ok. yeah. moving on
xiaoven: i very quickly realized after reading the genshin webtoon that venti was gonna be one of, if not my most favorite character. and i was curious as to who the people wanted to pair him with. keep in mind, this was around 2.0~2.2 I believe, so when I searched them up, the only canon backing I could find was the music scene
and boy, was that scene enough because holy shit, the brain rot these two gave me??? of a god who embodies freedom, and the last remaining yaksha chained to his duty????? they were so thematically opposed and beautiful, it wasn't hard to fall in love with them
by the time 3.0 came rolling in, I've already stopped playing, but that didn't mean i wasn't aware of how we were well fed by canon. from the trailer to venti full on attending the lantern rite and sitting down with the liyue gang; it was one of those interactions that transcended everything
and of course, OF COURSE, they also canonically addressed the fact that venti's music soothes xiao's soul. that's intimate. that's deep. that's so fucking romantic and nice and beautiful in the most tragic way...
also, we can't forget the depictions of god and servant here. the holy themes, the worship. the promise of immortality and foreverness, but also the threat of it. i just think xiao doomed with karmic debt and venti vowed to divine erosion is such a soulmate connection, and I'm also delusional
that's all for now but there's so much more...

@endlesscolddreams and @liemurienn dropped some really good replies on my USUK vs. FrUK post and it’s made me think about the differences between both pairings and why they might attract their respective fans the way they do.
Let’s begin with USUK, which nearly from series start has more canon on its side. Or rather it has more “serious” moments. Hetalia is a gag show at heart and its non-jokey parts are few and far between, ship tease included. The first gut punch most fans will encounter is Alfred and Arthur’s battle during the American War for Independence. That will definitely stick with a lot of people if for no other reason than it’s so unexpected. The funny, silly anime about pasta and gag war abruptly pivots to a main character sobbing his heart out in the rain while another looks on, stony faced, with no joke at all. This can’t not leave an impression. Even fans who loathe Alfred never try to pretend his effect on Arthur isn’t huge. Then the series carries on teasing the things left unsaid between them in both serious and silly shapshots. With all this is mind, it’s not hard to see why USUK became the big, swinging dick of Hetalia’s ships. Aside from the borderline canon Gerita, nothing else really has the weight behind it I think.
This definitely makes it what I would call an “easy” ship to get into. That sounds bad because fandoms can be very judgey about pairings they find to be basic. Just like everything else in the arts, there’s a perception among some people that if something is popular then it must be dumber/less deep/worse. Pure elitism basically. And it’s bollocks. Just because something is popular with the masses doesn’t make it worse. It just means it’s popular. Plenty of people hate USUK for the perfecly legitimate reason that it just doesn’t gel with them. But there’s always been a minority undercurrent of “I hate this just because it’s the fandom’s most visible ship!” Seen this happen a million times with other communities over the years.
USUK also has the almost universally beloved tropes of Happy, Gregarious, Extroverted one loves Moody, Gloomy, Introverted one. Who loves him back but can’t say it because tsundere. FrUK on the other hand is more subtle. It has Slowburn, Rivals/Enemies to Lovers as its bread and butter. These tropes are well loved but there’s no big, attention grabbing dramatic moment early on that makes use of and cements the FrUK interpretation of them in the minds of fans. Francis and Arthur share a lot of screentime but it’s all jokey and fun. Even the ship tease is all gags relating to Francis being comically pervy and Arthur being comically stuffy and flustered. Francis gets some heart rending moments later (Joan of Arc, the wish for a mortal life) but Arthur isn’t included. Even though he could have been because of what happened to Joan. It’s left up to the fans to add him. In another universe the Closet Cleaning arc was replaced by a Bitter Hundred Years War arc, and FrUK subsequently took the top spot in the fandom’s ship rankings as a result.
Leaving plain, old personal taste aside, I think all this divided the fandom between shippers who wanted something they could leap into and get early gratification (USUK) vs shippers who wanted to expend a little more energy on interpretation (FrUK). Because there’s plenty of drama to be had with Francis and Arthur thanks to the French/English historical rivalry (see above). But it’s not offered up on a plate in canon like with Arthur and Alfred. A USUK shipper gets drama given to them while a FrUK shipper has to dig deeper and make their own fun. Different strokes.
This kind of thing is very interesting to me. Please feel free to add on your own interpretations if you like ☺️

Fans consider the 25th of July to be a "SatoSugu day": the ship's name in Japanese (条五, pronounced "natsu go") means 725 — 07/25. The ship name GoGe literally translates to "five summers".
Anyway, it should be okay. We’re the strongest.
SATORU TO SUGURU, CHAPTER 66
Satoru – “You scared?”
Suguru – “Not really. We should be fine. We’re the strongest.”
— Chapter 72
Yaga – “Why did you let him go?”
Satoru – “Are you... really asking me that?”
Yaga – “No, you’re right... I’m sorry.”
— Chapter 78
There’s no way I would mistake his residuals.
SATORU TO YAGA, CHAPTER 0.3
It was my best friend. My one and only.
SATORU TO YUTA, CHAPTER 0.4
Satoru – “Now, now, don’t be spouting crazy talk to my students.”
Suguru – “Satoru! It’s been so long!”
— Chapter 0.3
Suguru – “Sorry, Satoru. The girls want to try the crepe shop on Takeshita Street. I’ll be on my way.”
Satoru – “Leaving? Not on my watch.”
— Chapter 0.3
Satoru Gojo is Master Geto’s one and only best friend, after all.
MIMIKO AND NANAKO, CHAPTER 112
My six eyes tell me you’re Suguru Geto. But my soul knows otherwise!
SATORU, CHAPTER 90
“I could't follow him. I couldn't stop him.”
GOJO THINKING ABOUT GETO[4]
Someone who doesn't want to be saved is like the setting sun sinking into the mountains. No matter how you hold out your hand, there's no way to reach them. There was no way to reach him.
GOJO THINKING ABOUT GETO, JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 (LIGHT NOVEL)[5]
Gojo Satoru. His appearance meant that this was the end. Or rather, to Geto — there was no other way this could end. In that way, it was easier to accept that this was his fate.
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 (LIGHT NOVEL)[6]
The strongest sorcerer; the wickedest curse user. Now they were mortal enemies, as irreconcilable as oil and water. Yet now, as they chatted on this little road by Jujutsu Tech, it was hard not to remember. To remember the past, when they laughed together. Idly chatting in the classroom, getting lectured by Yaga, walking shoulder-to-shoulder. What they were doing, what they wanted to do, what they wanted to make of themselves — as long as the two of them were together, none of that was ever in doubt. Days like that, long ago.
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 (LIGHT NOVEL)[7]
Gojo felt like he didn't know what face to make. His words, his every expression, even his bad habits — they made Gojo feel like each one was full of nostalgia, to the point of fond annoyance. A conversation between the two of them alone, ten years separated. Before it became a curse, Gojo opened his mouth.
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 (LIGHT NOVEL)[8]
To live for the purpose of being yourself. And for that goal, Geto could only continue to pursue his twisted dream, drowning himself in the curse that lies in the gap between ideal and reality. This was the final confession of a man who could only choose to warp himself, who had erased himself in pursuit of his goals. The only person who could bear such a curse was Gojo Satoru. Where did it go wrong? And how could they start over again?
JUJUTSU KAISEN 0 (LIGHT NOVEL)[9]
Moments * After Toji’s death both Satoru and Suguru inherited what was left of him: Satoru took in his children, Megumi and Tsumiki, while Suguru got posession of his another “child”, worm-like cursed spirit that called Geto “mother”.
* Geto’s execution order was issued right after the village massacre; Gojo has been postponing the task for 10 years after that.
* In a private conversation with Yuta Okkotsu, Gojo admits to his student, that he has a personal theory about love being the most twisted curse.[10] The only known negative incident in Gojo's personal life was caused by Geto, who betrayed Gojo and became a criminal.
* In their final scene together, Geto tells Gojo that in this world he cannot really laugh from the bottom of his heart. Gojo's final words to Geto are unknown, but whatever he said made Suguru laugh for the last time in his life.
* In chapter 0.4, Gojo tells Yuta that Geto is the only close friend he’s ever had. It is notable, that Gojo uses the present tense in the original Japanese panel, even though Geto’s life has just ended.[11]
* Gojo refused to send Geto’s body to Shoko Ieiri for an autopsy (and subsequent cremation).[12]
* While discussing their strategy to immobilize Gojo in order to seal him, curse Jogo says, “Even a thousand measly human lives wouldn’t be enough to distract him!”[13] It turns out to be true; Gojo mercilessly kills a thousand mutated people, but Geto’s appearance stupefies him and leads to his defeat.
* During the battle with Hanami and Jogo, Satoru deactivates his Limitless Cursed Technique, and fights the curses only using his cursed energy and physical attacks. A mere hour before Gojo is successfully sealed by an imposter wearing Geto’s body, Jogo notes that nothings seems to be able to stop Gojo (“Is there anything you don’t have?!”).
* When Geto’s body reacts to Satoru’s words adressing him, Geto’s imposter notices that it is the first time when it disobeyed him.
* When Mei Mei meets Pseudo-Geto, she wonders why he is still alive and whether he and Gojo have been conspiring and working together all this time (although, she discards that thought).
* The Jujutsu Kaisen 0 light novel mentions that the events that happened to Geto and Gojo's inability to help his only friend led Satoru to choose his path as a teacher.[14]
* In the same light novel, when Geto leaves the college after notifying everyone about The Night Parade of One Hundred Demons, Gojo watches him go and sees the "shape of his soul" (夏油の魂の形 in the original text).
Behind the Scenes
Gege – “How to put it, through making it Satoru (and) Suguru—”
Interviewer – “[You wanted] to get it to feel duo like.”
Gege – “Also meaning wise... a natural born genius and a genius through effort — well, not exactly — but I kind of wanted to have that difference in nuance.”
— Gege Akutami about choosing Suguru's name.[15]
The kesa... I may be mistaken but the kesa here is most likely called "gojou-kesa". When I was researching kesa, there were several different ones and this one was apparently called gojou-kesa, so I recall figuring "oh isn't this just right".
GEGE AKUTAMI ON GETO'S WARDROBE.[16]
I was lectured by director Park and the sound director before recording [the scenes] where Geto talks to Gojo, since the relationship between those two is special.
TAKAHIRO SAKURAI, GETO'S JAPANESE VA[17]
Lines they exchange often have a different distance from the others, and there are words that can only be understood between the two of them.
TAKAHIRO SAKURAI EXPLAINING THE PARTICULARITY OF GETO AND GOJO'S RELATIONSHIP.[18]
The last [scene with] Gojo and Geto... no, it might be better to describe it as Satoru and Suguru's back and forth banter along with their expressions. That scene lingers in my ears.
TAKAHIRO SAKURAI ON SCENES FROM THE MOVIE THAT LEFT AN IMPRESSION ON HIM.[19]
Interviewer – “Do you see any difference between Gojo from the anime series and the movie?”
Nakamura – “I could really feel a big difference between Gojo from this two hour movie and the anime that had been on air for six months. In the TV anime Gojo didn't talk about himself, so you couldn't see his human nature, but in the movie, the way he interacts with Okkotsu, and emotions he has when facing Geto help to show his own human nature.”
— Yuichi Nakamura (Gojo's Japanese VA).[20]
Interviewer – “What do you hope the audience will pay extra attention to?”
Park – “I hope people will watch it with Gojo and Geto's relationship in mind.”
— Sunghoo Park, director of Jujutsu Kaisen 0.[21]
Last scene between Gojo and Geto is the best scene. Whole team worked hard to create a better atmosphere and tempo. It brings tears to my eyes when I watch it.
SUNGHOO PARK, DIRECTOR OF JUJUTSU KAISEN 0.[22]
I think the main topic of [Jujutsu Kaisen 0] is love. Okkotsu and Rika's story is a story that's based on love. Aside from that, although it's not exactly the same love, I think there's still a kind of heart-to-heart understanding between Gojo and Geto. They were once good classmates; now their relationship has turned upside down. Okkotsu and Rika, Gojo and Geto: they're all cases where love could've helped them grow, but instead it became a curse. I think this detail is one of the special points of the movie.
SUNGHOO PARK'S THOUGHTS ON THE CORE OF JUJUTSU KAISEN 0.[23]
The pairing attracts a lot of people due to the characters’ connection they formed as young adults and the sorrows that followed. Their contrasting aesthetics, personal views, and eventually their opposing positions in the jujutsu world make them a fascinating dynamic to explore. Another thing that sparks interest in the fanbase is that despite Gojo’s omnipotence and absolute invincibility, he has one weakness, which turns out to be the memory of his dead friend.
Many fans view Gojo and Geto’s falling out as a break up or divorce, there are a lot of fan works (art and fanfiction) made surrounding the theme of ex romantic partners. One of the most popular concepts is Geto and Gojo breaking up in front of KFC, which leads to humorous fan arts like this or this and even playlists (for example). A great amount of works focuses on the time period between Geto’s turn and Volume 0, when Gojo and Geto are considered to be on the opposite sides of the law (fulfilling the trope Love Across Battlelines). Given Satoru and Suguru’s story is undoubtedly tragic, many fan works on AO3 are dedicated to studying such emotional states as heartbreak, loss, grief, e.g.
Another trope explored in fanfiction and fan arts is found family, considering Gojo became Tsumiki and Megumi’s guardian, while Geto took responsibility of raising two girls — Mimiko and Nanako (like here, here, or here). Some AUs include Suguru being mentally stable and becoming a teacher at Jujutsu High along with Satoru (and getting to know Satoru’s students). This inspires many artists to come up with different, often comical, ideas of what their day-to-day life would be like. While some prefer to reminisce on the sorcerers’ youth, others like to explore what their life could be like if Geto came back and took control of his body (like depicted in this comic or in this AO3 work). Often SatoSugu feature works dedicated to other pairings as a background couple, especially in ShokoHime fanfiction and artworks.
One of the most occuring motifs that artists tend to use in their works is a dragonfly (like here or here). Both Satoru and Suguru have connection to that insect: in one of the interviews, mangaka Gege Akutami admitted that now that Geto is dead with his body still automatically reacting to Satoru, his physical state could be compared to a dead dragonfly with its head ripped off: technically it is dead, but it keeps twitching post-mortem.[27] Some fans hope Gege was joking, and still belive in the possibility of his consciousness (or soul) coming back to him. In a flashback scene from manga, young Satoru can be seen wearing a dragonfly patterned yukata.
[28] Another thing about dragonflies that unites both Gojo and Geto is its Buddhist meaning. In Buddhissm, it represents the joining of Heaven and Earth as the dragonfly is one with the air and with the water at the same time. Famosly, Gojo quoted Buddha ("Throughout heaven and earth... I alone am the honored one") when he overcame his struggle and was symbolically reborn to join the fight against Toji. Artists mainly use the dragonfly as a symbol of the tragic turn the relationship between Satoru and Suguru took, and the unavoidable nature of fate.
There is another symbol. In the second opening VIVID VICE, Gojo can be seen walking in rain with a bouquet of white and blue flowers in his hand. Judging by the size, shape, and petal edges, these most likely are white calla lilies, gysophilia, and blue roses. White gypsophila from his bouquet, or baby-breath, is used for funeral flower arrangements and farewell ceremonies[29]; white calla lilies symbolize rejuvenation of the soul, love, and grief (often chosen for weddings and funerals).[30] Blue roses do not grow in nature, but can be hybridized or dyed; among other things, they signify unattainableness, a never-to-be-fulfilled wish, and impossible love.[31] Gojo is dressed in all black and is wearing his black shades, meaning he is on his day off, and chose to dress like that for some occasion.[32]
The fandom has taken liking to this interpretation, thus, flower bouquets comprised of blue roses often feature SatoSugu art pieces. Since blue roses are hard to produce, cosplayers (and some artists, too) tend to opt for blue hydrangea, flower that was first discovered and cultivated in Japan.
In Volume 0, Geto takes Mimiko and Nanako to a famous crêpe shop on Takeshita Street.[34] In the first light novel, months after Geto’s death, Yuji and Megumi wander somewhere in the Akihabara area (9 minutes from Takeshita Street by taxi) and see Gojo; they lose sight of him, and when they find him again, he is eating crêpes bought, judging by the package, in “a popular crêpe shop”.[35] Most popular crêperies in both areas belong to the same brand called Marion Crêpes. Fans believe that Gojo and Geto visited crepe shops when they were students, thus, in fan works they are often depicted getting crepes together, sometimes accompanied by their “children”.
The ship’s popularity reached the cosplayers, too. For example, in 2021, married couple from China with almost 7,5 million followers combined on Chinese social platform Weibo cosplayed the characters during CP28, Chinese Comic Con held in Shanghai. As seen in the video the couple posted, they were extremely popular, as the crowd of fans kept following them wherever they went.

Because I always love to read your thoughts ♥️ For the ask game- number 3 for Zukaang in Ship It?
Ahhh thank you for the ask...and for an excuse to gush about Zukaang🥺😍🤭
Zukaang - I ship it!
What made you ship it?
I've always loved their dynamic, and IMO their relationship is one of the best things about ATLA. Even though I shipped Kataang from the start, the way Aang and Zuko went from being mortal enemies to genuine friends is something that's so special to me. The connection they made when they glanced at each other during The Storm, and then the famous "Do you think we could have been friends, too?" scene gives me the chills EVERY TIME. There's this particular kind of vulnerability that they share with each other and no one else. They share the unique privilege and burden of being the Avatar and the Fire Lord, they're the descendants of Roku and Sozin (one literally, the other spiritually), and they're the only ones who can work to bring out about the kind of world that Aang remembers and that Zuko dreams of - TOGETHER. But what really made me ship them is how they keep getting drawn to each other and are never able to escape the other no matter how hard they try, until they both relent and accept that their destinies are inseparably intertwined, that each of them carries a part of the other within them, and dflkgjsldkfjsad IM OBSESSED
2. What are your favorite things about the ship?
The vulnerability they share with each other. Both of them keep their emotional walls up pretty high. Zuko is closed off and brooding, and Aang hides a lot with his smile and seemingly open nature. Even though they let down their guard with Mai and Katara, there's a deeper part of themselves that even the women who love them can't quite touch. For Zuko, it's the validation and healing and eventually justice he seeks as someone who both perpetuates and suffers from being part of the FN imperial family's generational cycle of destruction. For Aang, it's the loneliness from being cut off from the world he once knew and from his destiny as the Avatar, a revered and almost mythical being especially in a world that has waited for his return for so long. Aang and Zuko are unique among the ATLA cast in their emotional isolation, and it's only in the moments when they bare their souls to each other (even when they're still enemies! even when it doesn't feel entirely safe!) that they begin to find a kindred spirit. (I know I sound very normal right now but I'm actually internally screaming)
3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I haven't been in the Zukaang fandom for very long, but from what I can tell (and from what I'm told), there aren't a lot of Aang-centric fanworks, especially when it comes to fic. So I guess my unpopular opinion is that we could use a lot more Aang-centric Zukaang art and fic...mostly so I can enjoy it LOL. Zuko taking care of Aang? Give it to me because I. will. eat. it. UP. I've already discovered a couple of fic authors, including you, who tend to write Aang-centric fics, and they live rent-free in my brain 😍
send me an ask from the ship ask game!

Why Brechtjeeatscheese recommends this ACBB: this was such an amazing fic, I loved the dynamic between Arthur and Merlin. The worldbuilding was amazing, those scenes in the beginning with Merlin putting that shield around him, perfect! The scenes Budapest were also amazing!! I've read this fic more times than I care to admit and I just love every part about it!

AN: A gift for the wonderful @merilles. Please check out the beautiful art for this ship here and here! I always feel so very honored when I get to write other people's OCs ♡
dark romance prompts
♡ prompt: despair | Dúvain (OC) x Mairon/Sauron ♡ synopsis: after having survived the dungeons of Barad-dûr, Dúvains finds herself face to face with the dark lord. what does he want from her? ♡ warnings: captive/captor dynamic, power imbalance ♡ short oneshot (~900 words)
Tumblr media
The first thing Dúvain saw when she awoke was the gaze of honey-golden eyes, bright and warm like sunshine. They appeared to illuminate the ethereal, perfect face hovering above her with an otherworldly glow, and she was met with a smile a little too sweet and teeth just slightly too sharp to belong to a mortal man.
The first thing she smelled was the subtle, soothing scent of tea and a cosy fireplace, with only the slightest hint of flame and ash; a scent that one hardly ever noticed until it was gone, a scent that spoke of home.
The first thing she felt was a hand on her cheek and another on top of hers, long fingers searching, reaching, intertwining with hers like serpents of smooth skin and hard bone.
"Dúvain..."
That voice. The loveliest Dúvain had ever heard, soft and melodious, surpassing even the most famed minstrels of Númenor. There was a subtle lilt to it as if it was singing to her, slowly coaxing her out of slumber.
"Dúvain..."
She blinked. It felt as though her mind had been shattered into tiny shards and fragments of memories and sensations, yet she knew she recognised this man – this miraculous being.
It's...
Annatar.
No. No. It's –
Tar-Mairon.
Dúvain squeezed her eyes shut. No. These thoughts, these names, they came with such certainty and precision that they felt out of place, as if someone was speaking inside her mind with her own voice.
Yet now that she was free from that alluring golden gaze, clarity suddenly returned to her.
It's... the enemy. It's Sauron.
She sat up abruptly, eyes wide in panic, and freed her hand, scooting backwards until her shoulders met the headboard of the bed she had been sleeping on.
Liar. Torturer. Deceiver. Murderer.
Dúvain raised her hands, only to realise that her sword was gone – had been gone for a long time. They had taken it from her, as well as any other blade or sharp piece of steel she could have used to defend herself.
If he can even be hurt by such things. Either way, her own flesh and bone was all that remained; though she knew already that she was weakened and had little hope of resisting whatever he planned to do to her.
Would it be worse than the dungeons of Barad-dûr? Under normal circumstances she would doubt it, but the tales of the dark lord's bottomless malice and cruelty made her think otherwise.
Sauron made no move to stop or apprehend her. He sat on the edge of the bed, his hands still resting on the sheets where Dúvain had withdrawn from his touch, and he seemed amused rather than angered by her reaction.
"You are awake," he noted, speaking in the same lilting sing-song voice he had used to talk to her in her sleep. "Have you slept well?"
The nonchalance of his demeanour felt like mockery.
Dúvain didn't deign to answer and clenched her fists. Knuckles white, nails biting into her skin, she forced herself not to tremble. Sauron was the kind of creature that could sense fear, she knew instinctively.
Could she escape? If not from his dungeon, then maybe from whichever chambers he had brought her to? Nervously, her eyes roamed her surroundings. Even if she could somehow outrun a Maia, guards would be everywhere, and she had no idea where she was, not to mention the battlements, the stairs, the gates –
Sauron was suddenly in front of her again, now kneeling on the bed. Dúvain flinched; she was certain that she hadn't looked away for even a split second, yet somehow he had still managed to move faster than her eyes could see.
So much for getting away from him...
His hands reached for her again, and she had nowhere to go. Her gaze fell upon a single golden ring adorning his finger, gleaming proudly and thrumming with strange magic and powers she did not understand.
"No..."
Dúvain didn't want to be touched. Not by Orcs, not by other Men, most certainly not by the dark lord –
And yet, his hands were warm, and she was cold, so cold.
Her breath quickened and her heart raced, like a trapped bird fluttering in its cage.
"Kill me," she challenged.
I don't want to die.
But Dúvain would be brave, like a knight of Númenor should be.
Sauron merely smiled. "You don't truly want me to."
Had he read her mind or was he able to see past her facade so easily? He had both hands on her cheeks now, holding her head in a gentle yet inescapable grip, and was examining her panicked expression like an amusing curiosity.
"My dear Dúvain." The subtle song was back, incessant and unrelenting as if he intended to serenade her into submission. "There is no need for such antics. You have already proven your strength to me, have you not?"
His smile was so sweet that it sickened her to her core, but Dúvain found herself unable to look away or close her eyes.
"You have indeed, and I wish to reward you for it."
"I don't want what you offer. I choose death over your treacherous gifts," Dúvain mumbled, though it was becoming harder and harder to focus on her words.
Sauron laughed lightly, and despite the gentle melody of his voice, there was an edge of cruelty to the otherwise pleasant sound.
"You fear death as all mortals do, Dúvain. Why don't you instead ask me for something that you truly desire – such as deliverance from its grasp?"

Limbus Shipping Company
Edit: My assumption is that Sinclair is a adult. ive been told otherwise. My perception is that Sinclair and Don are consenting adults.
Don Quixote stood over Sinclairs body.  He was on his back, eyes wide open, a look of panic on his face,  breathing fast,  hands, red with blood grasped at the dirt and rocks where he lay. Blood was pooling and slowly soaking into the earth around his hips, somewhere on his torso was likely a mortal wound, at least Sinclair thought that.  His mind raced with all sorts of unfortunate outcomes, the main one, “Dante is not here”.
Dons knees were bent, her feet on either side of Sinclairs hips, her upper body leaning forward in a aggressive stance, left arm out at her side, right hand clutching her lance in a Seigan no Kamae stance, one she learned from watching Ryōshū. Don yelled at the Inquisition, spit flying from her lips “Leave Him Alone!”. Her breathing was heavy, causing her body to rise and fall w/ each breath, but nothing else moved, she stared, daring anyone to come near Sinclair.   Sinclair's eyes opened a bit wider and the pain dissipated slightly, “Don is putting her life on the line, for…for  me?!”  He never felt more protected and safe than he did at this moment.  Sinclair always felt Don Quixote got the least respect from the group, but the one he respected the most.  “She nearly beat me to death one time,  because she cared enough to stop me from doing something stupid”.  I never forgot that lesson and looked up to her ever since.  But today, certainly no other sinner would risk themselves for me.  All would wait for the Holy Dante to set things right, not caring about their selfish actions or how it affects others. W/ Dante out of the picture, would they dare take any risk, knowing Death was much closer.  I'm sure even Gregor would have left given the odds, but Don, she stayed knowing full well the outcome for us both.
Don eyed the battlefield w/ a narrow focus that only comes from adrenaline.  She saw each enemy in clear detail.  The hesitation of the leader caused the remaining two to stop in their tracks.  The lance aimed at his eyes, and her eyes bore a hole through his skull. “No one is touching this boy” she thought.  The leader slowly backed away, making a motion to the others w/ his hands to back away.  He lost too many today, and saw what she could do, he did not want a similar fate.
Sinclair was not sure what was happening, time was at a weird place for him, it was not until Don changed her stance and then quickly kneeled down beside him putting his head on her lap. He figured they backed away.  He let out a feeble "Fuck off assholes" Don huished him and asked “My boy..errrm, Sinclair...how fare thee?”  Don breaking character for a second did not slip past Sinclair.  But what did slip was his consciousness, Sinclair passed out in her arms, it was the most peace and safest he felt since his family died.
Thou art alive! She whispered into Sinclairs ears, his eyes opened, it was cold out but he was warm next to her body.  It must be nearly dawn, he thought.  Sinclair was on his back and Don on her side snuggled close to keep him warm. Her cape was around them both, one arm wrapped over his chest and the other tucked under using her hand as a pillow.  She was tight against Sinclair, and whispered in his ear, “I am glad you are better, I was worried.” Knowing this break in character would not go unnoticed, Don added “tell anyone and ill pummel you a second time”. She kissed his cheek and her face remained touching his as she drifted off again.  Sinclair had never been this close to a woman before, at least not outside of a fight or training.  Her breath on his ear and body tight against his, caused Sinclair to have feelings, ones he never felt before. Since was swaddled in her cape and arm, he was not able to scooch over, for modesty's sake. But given the temperature, he appreciated her warmth and decided this was the best place to be.  He stayed in place, feeling a bit awkward but also, enjoying these new feelings.
During the day, Sinclair was able to take in all the work Don put into keeping them alive the past 3 days, only making him feel more appreciative of her.  She gathered leaves for tea, hunted small game, cleaned and cooked them.  Collected fire wood and never lost a bounce her step.  She talked non stop, usually about Siegfried or fixers but she also regaled Sinclair w/ how he stepped in to save her from that ambush.  Risking his life to save hers.   Sinclair smiled, he had never been thought as a hero before. He reflected on his actions and did what felt right in the moment, stepping in to stop Don from being pierced by a sword, taking the cut meant for her. His action did not go unnoticed, Don felt it was the bravest thing anyone has ever done, and for her.  No one has ever stepped in to be her hero.  She only fantasized of the red Gaze saving her from Peril or fighting alongside of him.  Having a real life hero save her was the stuff of dreams and legends.  Don  was still happily talking about her fave fixers and skipping through their camp when they heard the sound of Mephistopheles approaching and the toot toot of Charon behind the wheel.  Dante, Faust and Vergil greeted  both, but not before admonishing them for leaving the group.   4 days prior, Don saw a village burnt to the ground and the corpses of those left behind, the dead children is what set her in motion.  She ran off w/ out hesitation to find their killers.  Sinclair gave chase, partly out of his admiration for Don but also, not having anything to live for, she always had something motivating her, Sinclair wanted some of that, and her spirit.  She was always so damn happy, being around her made him look at life differently. So for once in his life, Sinclair was impulsive and followed someone into the fray.  Given how he felt about her today, Sinclair had no regret despite nearly dying.
Since then, Don Quixote was always near Sinclair.  Mostly happy to have someone listen to her talk about fixers. Sinclair had a patience the others did not, she could actually get through a full story and he would still be there to the end smiling.  Adding to her tales of the great fixers, she would often regale the group of the time Sinclair stepped in to save her life. These were the only times the group would stay and listen, even Ryōshū.  Dons admiration for Sinclair was clear for all to hear.  Not to mention she doted on him, not really in a motherly or sisterly way, but a caring friend way.  She was also protective of Sinclair.  One day Heathcliff wanted Sinclairs head to see if it would fit on Dantes body then Ryōshū offering her sword, saying it would work better than his stupid bat.  Don stepped in, normally there would have been a scuffle and some or lots of blood.  But now, the sinners had new found respect for Don and knew not to step between the two.
Don, She liked her boy, he was a good fit in her life, something she did not feel she needed till now.  She had no idea what to do w/ him, but she kept him close, he was hers and that was that.  Romance, that would likely never happen, but love, it was there, in their eyes. To Don,  Sinclair was as grand as any fixer she ever met and his life was hers to protect, at least thats what she told herself.
