Out of everything, my favorite "We didn't mean to make 'em gay" Atlus moment with Shuake and P5R is how not engaging in any of the romantic routes, overall, doesn't affect the gameplay at all. You even get the best White Day bit with Soujiro + Ryuji choco, as a treat.
But not liking Akechi enough by either not completing his confidant or not choosing the right options means you don't get the complete True Ending. The game itself punishes you for not letting Akiren go to their pecualiar Akeshu-brand dates, or for not making him admit how much he cares about their proposal promise.
I hate them.

heehee hoo hoo procrastinating things so i rant here
#this is all on my mind because recently i interacted with one of those like... twitter akechi stans who are in an echo chamber of#akechi/akeshu. and its just impossible to talk about anything because a)the characters can't be divorced from each other. akira only exists#to prop up akechi and be his cute bf and in a way vice versa for akechi but at least he's allowed to be a bitchy asshole/have more emotions#and its considered 'cute'.#b) in those circles there's a very specific interpretation of akechi that really grates me which makes it even harder for me to take things#seriously or speak when whatever we're talking about is completely at odds.#and its not like I'm inserting myself into akeshu convos and going 'wow youre wrong' we were literally just talking about akira and akechi.#no romance. just them as characters and about the persona awards and its just bah bah bah bah bah shipping#and akeshu is a good pairing but man some of y'all make me go 'damn its not That good'#UGH and that's another reason why i find it hard to hold a conversation about anything regarding royal. because it all fucking boils down#to akeshu and 'maruki being the no.1 akeshu shipper hehe!!!' thats WEIRD you know thats really weird right#and so tiring. i know 3rd sem focuses on akira n kechi's relationship but like. you can talk about it in a way that isnt sosssososohggtgrgh#running out of steam for this rant i forget my original topic i just wanted to yell#idk man i just want nuance. please. i think this ends up being true for any fandom that gets too steeped in shipping#but Fuck nuance is one of the core themes of persona 5 and yet people don't have any

the persona designs in persona 5 are so absolutely dogshit like looking at them next to the ones from other games makes me wish i was dead. theyre so busy and not even in a good way... absolutely swagless... especially when the rest of the rest of the game does have a lot of swag. like im a severe persona 5 apologist** but i hate all of the main party personas a lot
#maybe its just bc i dont care much about the thieves but idk i kind of hate the investigation team & i generally like the personas#the only design that is ok to me is loki and im not even just saying that as an insane akechi stan... its the only good one#**Royal. And i hate it too

Joker and Neurodivergency: The Very Long ADHD Yappathon
So this is mostly just an excuse to ramble, project, and headcanon.
But the longer I've been working on my Dialogue Compilation Project... The more I've gradually started to notice bits about Joker as a character that hit pretty close to experiences I've also dealt with as someone neurodivergent, specifically someone with inattentive ADHD.
So how about we delve into it?
So as a foreward to describe the explanation process: What exactly is Inattentive ADHD?
Inattentive ADHD is a type of ADHD where children have a hard time paying attention but don’t necessarily exhibit hyperactive behavior.
In simpler terms, it's more of an internal hyperactivity. Like your brain or emotional regulation are constantly unrestrained. For instance: - Your thoughts tend to get scattered - Your short-term memory's spotty (i.e. you may struggle to repeat back something you were just told a few seconds ago) - You tend to dissassociate out of the blue due to a lack of stimulation - Your emotions might go 0-to-100 where it may be "nothing" or "suddenly everything at once" depending on what's going on (especially with external stimulants like crowds or sudden noises) - Etcetera.
And because of that lack of internal structure, it's difficult to: - Maintain habits or time awareness for some folks - Bodily queues like hunger or sleep simply don't register unless in extremes (like a low blood sugar, hunger shakes, or overall sleep deprivation crapiness).
And that's not even getting into the executive dysfunction or auditory processing issues... Hoo boy... 💪🥲
There's a wide variety of symptoms for each individual, nobody's the same. Heck some of these are experiences someone else might not even have, either.
Some of them even overlap with autism as well (and some folks might have both), but out of respect as someone who isn't autistic, I'll personally refrain from discussing about it here to avoid accidental stereotyping (but feel free to add to this with personal anecdotes if you like!). Mostly just going off my own experiences with ADHD.
So how exactly does any of this apply to Joker?
Well, some of the oh-so-fun things about being ADHD is:
- Needing consistent reminders for tasks
- Executive Dysfunction (especially when things go wrong or you feel like crap)
- Being able to Hyperfocus (i.e. "being in the zone" to a degree that you tune everything else out including the time spent on the task).
We know based on the Persona series' time-slot system that typically, Joker will spend hours doing a single task and only that task. There's no multitasking or anything. He is focused solely on whatever he starts doing, be it studying, making tools, training, etcetera.
(There's also smaller moments like the P5 Anime as well, where he'll actually get mildly frustrated with anyone that distracts him from a task he's focusing on. Specifically Akechi when he keeps trying to have a conversation with him while he's concentrating on using a pour-over.)
That sounds about normal for anyone though, right?
Well, here's the thing.
He usually doesn't stop until Morgana suggests he should.
This is different from previous Persona protagonists like Yu or Makoto/Kotone because they don't have someone like Morgana constantly reminding them that they've done plenty of work, or that they should head to bed. They just do it themselves.
On top of that, while party members (both from P5 itself and prior games) will occasionally remind you to "do [blank] by a certain date," Morgana's the one character that will consistently remind Joker (and you) several times in a single day, ranging from maybe a line or two, to three/four different ones every day the week before the deadline.
The one time Morgana's not present do this?
No afternoon or evening events to work on, Joker's just so damn miserable without his close friend that he holes himself up in Leblanc's Attic and does nothing for two days straight. Not even in said attic, it's standing around missing Morgana or going to sleep. Good 'ol depressed-flavoured executive dysfunction if ever I've felt one. 🥲
And on top of the "reminders" bit... Joker's also the only protag who has handwritten notes about events in the game on top of the Calendar Menu's summary too (courtesy of the notebook Sojiro gives him). Sometimes the date in the menu itself will be blank, but Joker will have these written down anyways:
Which is something that's often super helpful for ADHD folks when recalling our long-term memories (one of our bigger strengths), as specific details like these can help us piece the entire situation back together even if it was months/years ago.
(Good thing too in his case especially, considering the Interrogation Room plan hinged on him remembering everything)
So that's surely it, right?
NOPE.
There's another very important detail about Joker that's gets heavily underlooked:
Now we already know some key bits in regards to this information:
Sojiro absolutely doesn't starve him, and in fact he's not only willing to feed Joker on his way out the door, but he's also willing to teach him how to make Leblanc's food too.
And we also that eventually culminates in Strikers as a beloved game mechanic: Joker's Kitchen, which Joker does entirely of his own volition.
It's probably safe to say that he at least doesn't have a food aversion. I mean come on, he's got endless pockets full of random crap from vending machines, some of which sound absolutely inhumane. Or he's at a clinic guzzling random drugs with reckless abandon like the unhinged weirdo he is.
But with the above context that he has a tendency to lose track of time without Morgana's input, it adds a layer to this line that makes a lot of sense. Between being distracted by a task, and sometimes not having "hunger signals" at all, a lot of us tend to not even realize we've been starving all day. It's usually a state of "normal" nothing until oops it's Sudden Hunger Shakes O'Clock.
Which can also develop into just generally eating small portions of food as well, because again, we tend to "not feel hungry" unless it's extreme, and that can really affect our degree of appetite/intake.
Or in other cases, including my own and probably Joker's too until Strikers, there's a lack of general interest in food as a whole too. It's yet another time management task that you have to remember to do, every few hours, every single day, every single week, every single month, every single year. So you'll probably grab anything just so long as it's filling enough to get you by for the day. (Unless you have food aversion... Godspeed us all in finding filling safe foods that don't suddenly change and make us hurl 🫡💦). It's necessary of course, but there's a tedium to it sometimes regardless of the meal that you really have to fight with just to keep living.
Sumi gag aside, come on. Look at the sheer difference. That bun's smaller than Morgana's head and it's the barest minimum snack you can find anywhere.
"But what about the Big Bang Burger Challenge?" Come on man, we all know he's not doing it for the sake of eating. He's doing it to get smarter and prettier and kinder. The power of processed junk food filled with microplastics and employee tears I guess.
Distractability and focusing on a particular interest.
Obviously we don't go "SQUIRREL" at the drop of a hat like an excitable dog (despite how often people like to use that stereotype). But for some of us, our minds do tend to flitter around a bit in search of something to stimulate our brains.
Kinda like a zoo animal pacing around an enclosure, except it's our squishy brain trapped in a cage of bone and too little dopamine. 🫠
And in the abscence of something to work on or talk about, that can range from zoning out in classes/discussions (which Joker does a lot) to dissociate the boredom away (which ironically most people tend to see as "endless patience," if only they knew...), or looking for things to work on or talk about (which he... also tends to do a lot, depending on how much of the maps you explore).
And in Joker's case specifically, a lot of that tends to end up with him sticking his nose into situations that benefits the specific thing that gives him a purpose/drive (being a Phantom Thief), but are absolutely not normal things a teenager should be getting into.
Like dealing with the Yakuza. Or being the fake boyfriend of a drunk woman. Or paying his homeroom teacher to be a maid for him. Or a homoerotic shoot-out (... well, three separate times actually if you count an arcade game) with another teenage weirdo. Or T-Posing in a church to understand The Passion Of The Christ. Or unholy amounts of burger-eating to raise his "social stats."
He's willing to get into all kinds of mischief if it helps the Phantom Thieves. If it doesn't, then he's not particularly interested in starting anything with someone. More often than not, it takes Morgana mentioning how someone's services or skills "could help the thieves" to get Joker to be interested in them.
Or the person being especially pushy for him to cave in Maruki's case, to which Joker will make the same rationalization instead despite his initial pushback:
He's so dedicated to being a Phantom Thief that it's equal parts inspiring, relatable, hysterical, and sad to watch.
Especially since at the end of almost every single confidant (bar the party members', and Akechi's and Maruki's who both peg him as a thief pretty quickly through happenstance), every single one of them find out he's a Phantom Thief on their own. Because this poor boy is so tunnel-visioned on his role as "Joker" and helping people that he's about as subtle as a steel chair to the face and woefully unaware of it until it's told to him. 🥹
Lastly, NO TOUCHY.
Honestly, probably my favorite underrated bit about Joker that barely gets talked about.
Across the different P5 mediums (well, two as far as I'm aware of), there's at least one on-screen instance in each of Joker being touch-aversed whenever other people invade his personal space. Usually whenever he has physical contact with someone else (like any of the romaceable confidants, or Akechi), he's the one initiating it first.
In the P5 Anime you've got the bathouse scene between him, Ryuji, and Yusuke after Madarame's palace. In it, Ryuji jumps away from the hot water coming out of the faucet and bumps into Joker.
His response directed at Ryuji?
In English: "Please scoot back."
In Japanese (according to subs anyway): "You're making it hotter."
Both of which he says while hunched up with his shoulders to his ears and shooting Ryuji an unhappy expression.
Seriously. That is a "dead-inside and accepting reality" stare if ever I've felt one, choppy animation quality aside.
In P5 Royal meanwhile, you've got Yusuke's third awakening in Third Semester, where Joker says this when he suddenly grips his shoulders:
Both of which are basically the exact same message, just told in different ways.
... And that's not even going into how more often than not, any time we see Joker being touched on-screen by someone else, they're usually restraining or physically abusing him.
Whether you want to chalk that up to trauma from his initial arrest in the Shido Flashback, or as a ND aspect of his, is entirely up to you. Personally I'm leaning more on the latter as he usually only establishes this boundary with people he trusts (whereas he just outright avoids contact altogether around strangers), and he only breaks this boundary himself around specific people he cares about.
So with all that rambling finally done, hopefully this helps others notice some really cool bits of characterization around this loveable goofball. I won't say this a "100% accurate" interpretation of Joker as a character because everyone sees him differently. He is a self-insert after all.
But compared to the previous Persona protags (hell, even Atlus protags in general), Joker's always the one I immediately fall back to as the favorite for some reason. The coat is snazzy, he has a smirk that makes all the ladies and gay detectives weak at the knees, but... I could never really pinpoint the actual why until now.
Whether Atlus intended Joker to be neurodivergent-coded is up in the air, but there's just so many aspects about him beyond the player's control that hit really close to home, and I'm glad that he's such a popular and beloved character for the traits that make him him.

With one of the most impactful sections of the game with Akechi (in my opinion) being his very emotionally fuelled breakdown during his boss fight, you would think more people would realize just how much of his reasoning for what he does is based on his emotions and not logic
akdbudhehf yeag
It's as if people just block out the engine room scene entirely, tbh. All the most popular misinterpretations of his character are blatantly contradicted by that scene. It's absolutely wild to me when it's incredibly obvious to me that that scene is Akechi at his most genuine/least filtered in the game and therefore the most important one if you want to understand him as a character. But it is so often completely ignored.
Arguments like "Akechi hates Joker" or "Akechi doesn't regret anything." Or "The Phantom Thieves hate Akechi and don't sympathize with him," even. I've even seen people (Akechi stans! in multiple fics!!) interpret Akechi as not giving a shit about popularity or what the masses think of him. Hello??? Guys!! Goro "I was extremely particular about my life, my grades, my public image, so someone would want me around" and "you'll all be heroes. as for me, people will find out my past deductions were just charade. my fame and trust will vanish" Akechi very very much does give a shit what people think about him. That is. actually. kind of his entire thing. (Yeah, after the public turns against him he gets jaded, but he never doesn't care. Having the public turn on him, I would argue, was actually a kind of personal hell for him, because he cares so much.) Anyway. I already wrote that meta.
But yeah, people love ignoring the engine room scene. Maybe they just forget a lot of it because a ton does happen? Or they just aren't insane about Akechi like me and haven't practically memorized bits of it. (Hey, I'm working on it. It'll get completely memorized eventually...) Akechi haters are gonna misinterpret him, that's not surprising. But it is absolutely wild to me when Akechi stans ignore the most important scene with him and understand who he is and why he did the things he did.
I've even been told that the engine room isn't Akechi at his most genuine and actually is him at his most extreme and shouldn't be taken at face value. Which is just......what??? Yeah, he's having a mental breakdown, but as a result all of his masks come off and he says shit that is real and genuine and that wouldn't have come out at any other time. The extreme emotions of the situation are what make it so genuine. That interpretation is so baffling to me, but maybe it's more common than I think, and that's why Akechi stans ignore it, I dunno.
But yeah, anyway, if you wanna know what Akechi actually believes about something, look at the engine room. It's the Rosetta Stone to Akechi's character and the scene through which you should interpret everything else. I don't know why everyone loves ignoring it so much.

U know what we're talking on the ketcher tonight. One of the main reasons i hate the "akechi was a test subject" thing is bc its always saying like, wakaba did bad stuff too. Which is fine. and even if it leads futaba to have an arc about having doubt about her mother: thats fine. I host the complicated women podcast, like id stan wakaba all the more for it, but just the Vibe I Get. And it may not be intentional but the Vibe I Get is that "since wakaba abused akechi, futaba should forgive him for killing her." And thats just so wrong to me. I dont think I've really liked anyones take on futaba forgiving akechi, but this one is kind of evil. They genuinely have enough going on that you can write. like is it not enough that akechis mom killed herself, something he likely holds a lot of guilt over, and then he turned around and did the exact same thing to futaba? like, thats beautiful. thats poetic. thats the smartest thing persona has ever done. you dont need to make wakaba a bad person or akechi somehow MORE traumatized
#like i dont dislike wakaba being more complicated or fleshed out i just dislike the implication#it just feels like futaba has to forgive him because of this. its just how i feel it seems. akechi deleted line voice But thats how i feel

Sorry (not) to be shuake stan here, but. So, the bosses in the crossover events right? They are variants of the original bosses.
I know there will he prolly a fake shido battle. But
What if there is an Akechi's too. Like. Joker just lost Akechi and he has to see a fake version of him that dosent even have a human face.
Im kinda going insane atm sorry
Heh, as someone who isn't personally a fan of that ship or romantic shipping in general, I do feel obligated to point out that he could have intense emotions about facing someone he just lost even if they weren't in a romantic relationship!
That aside, assuming we do have a Shido chapter, I'd be a little surprised if they had a fake Akechi fight, mainly because the Palace rulers are significant to the existence of the Palace in a way that the other boss fights within Palaces aren't? They haven't preserved any bosses in the collabs besides the rulers, up to this point. Futaba being able to hack in a ballista again strongly implies the fake Palaces are still tied to the ruler's cognition in some way, though it was explained rather vaguely.
Of course, Akechi's sort of an unprecedented situation (fighting an actual Persona user)! So who really knows for sure. It's possible it could be a fake cognitive Akechi instead of a fake real Akechi, as well? He was actually present in the Palace even before Akechi entered it, after all. Even then, though, I'm not sure I'd expect him to be tied to a klesha/poison the way that the Palace rulers are? So he might still just look like Akechi.
On that note, though, it's worth noting again that the timeline is kind of weird here! If the cruise ship is paired with the casino, then the Phantom Thieves wouldn't have gotten to the Akechi fight yet (most likely; they generally seem to have started exploration, but not secured the infiltration route yet, for whatever Palace they're currently exploring. Akechi dies when they secure the infiltration route). If they somehow pair the cruise ship with the Depths of Mementos, Akechi would be dead, but this might be odd. And if they pair the cruise ship with Maruki's Palace, as theorized before, then Akechi would be "alive" again! So we have a bit of a Schrodinger's Crow in regards to the end of the collab, at the moment, hehe.

Hellooo!! Can you do an akechi, ryuji or yusuke (you can choose which one to do or only do more than 1 if you can) with a ethnically middle eastern reader that has a curvy/full figure who does professional belly dancing as a side thing outside of school at parties/ weddings and what not and then later the readers s/o comes to pick them up a bit too early so he just admires them while they belly dance? (If you want a reference for the belly dancing @/azeeria on tiktok would be nice!)
Ty if you would consider this request <33!
Bellydancer S/o HCs (Ryuji Sakamoto, Yusuke Kitagawa, Goro Akechi)
𝗔/𝗡: 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗴𝗼!!! 𝗶 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆!! 𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝘀𝗮𝗱𝗹𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲'𝘀 𝗻𝗼 𝗴𝗼𝗿𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗶𝗳 ): 𝗶𝘁'𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗳𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝘀𝗺𝗵 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝘄𝗲 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀𝗻'𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝗯𝘂𝘀𝘆 𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺 𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗲
𝙒𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚? ⇒ 𝙈𝙖𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙩
𝙟𝙤𝙞𝙣 𝙢𝙮 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙤𝙧𝙙 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙫𝙚𝙧?
Ryuji Sakamoto
One word, three syllables: cheerleader
You know he’s going to brag about you to literally EVERY SINGLE PERSON HE COMES ACROSS
Half of Tokyo knows your name (and it’s not just because you’re famous)
He won’t let anyone give you shit- whether it’s online or in person, he’s always there to defend you (as a phantom thief, as some anon online, as Ryuji the lowkey thug- you name it)
But that’s all while you’re NOT dancing
When you are, it’s like he’s a whole different man
Whenever he catches you at the end of a performance or even practicing, he’ll stop everything he’s doing and he just watches
He’s just completely enraptured with the dumbest smile on his face as he watches you dance because he’s just so damn happy to have someone like you in his life
All his life he definitely felt like he was so different of a person compared to everyone else that being different couldn’t ever lead to something good
So being able to see you be unapologetically yourself to make something beautiful- it just makes him so so so so happy it’s crazy
Yusuke Kitagawa
You are his biggest inspiration for art
Seriously- Japan has so many unique people (himself included) but it’s not all the time that he gets to meet someone from a completely different ethnic background
Much more, get to be with someone with a completely different ethnic background who actively practices and performs part of their culture for the public
And he has caught glimpses of you practicing before of course
But when those rare moments he gets to one of your performances early and he gets to see you
Like, really really see you
In full costume and with the lights shining on you and your bright smile as you give it your all?
It’s beautiful to him. It’s art to him
Time after time, your performances never fail to leave him slack-jawed in pure awe as his mind explodes with creativity
It’s like you’re truly the best thing that could have ever happened to him in every sense fo the word
Goro Akechi
Unfortunately, your relationship canNOT be public of any sort
Its obvious Akechi is gonna have rabid fangirls who would tear any girl he shows interest apart
So naturally, having an extremely beautiful girlfriend with a foreign ethnicity would be a cause for concern given his popularity (and the fact that shitty stans exist everywhere)
But don’t worry
He’s more than content watching you from afar when out in public
Who do you think films all your promotional videos???
He has seen you dance before so it’s nothing new (there’s a room in his apartment that he cleaned up just so you have a space to practice when you’re over)
But watching you in your element gives him the peace of mind that he’s with someone who has dedication to their own craft
Plus it’s a nice break from being around stiffs in suits all-day
Though people are starting to wonder why he’s often in the same place as you…….

Real Answer:
I've cried about this before on here multiple times but this is my favorite line, and the one that made me an indefatigable Akechi stan:
Yeah I'll have feelings about this again, why not.
"I can still be your playmate" literally recontextualized the way I think about love hsfjdlshfks. Like. Play is such an essential part of living. Not just for humans, pretty much every animal we've ever studied turns out to engage in play when given the opportunity (feels safe, not hungry/thirsty).
And playing with others is especially important in social species! Notice how core playing is to human society: all games obviously, but also sports, gambling, a huge chunk of media dedicated to various games or using games as a base for a story, etc.
Anyways, Kusuo just hasn't gotten the opportunity to play, really play, since he was a small child. Even if those early games with Kusuke counted, they no longer did once Kusuke installed the limiters. After that, every game was tinted with the danger of basically losing his life should he lose, essentially destroying any fun that Kusuo could have gotten from it. Not at any point does Kusuo wish he could play a game with his brother again – it's something he would rather avoid at all costs.
And we can see that Kusuo does not really know how to play on his own either. When left to his own devices, he only reads/watches/plays shitty/obscure media, watches live TV, or stares at the ceiling. His powers prohibit him from doing a lot of things, and if he's up to anything else, it's usually training to improve his control (like when he threw a baseball back and forth a billion times to get better at it).
So when Akechi comes up with a game for Kusuo to play, it's actually groundbreaking. Especially because Akechi purposely does not place any limits on Kusuo in order to do it! That's HUGE!
Kusuke ALWAYS tries to limit Kusuo when they play, handicapping Kusuo in London with a GPS tracker and 2 friends to limit his power use, and using Toritsuka as a hostage during the Cat Tank arc (and there's no way Kusuke didn't shoot at Toritsuka directly multiple times to make Kusuo take the hit). The only time Kusuke doesn't handicap Kusuo is for the fireworks "birthday surprise", but that was explicitly because he was testing the limits of Kusuo's powers to adjust the Cat Tank.
On the other hand, Akechi doesn't put any limits on what Kusuo could do to play, and in fact, watches him obviously using his powers (specifically clairvoyance and distance telepathy). To him, Kusuo using his powers is not cheating, because Kusuo's powers are as much a part of him as his hands or eyes.
The wording of Akechi's comment in the first panel, "I guess [...] I'm still better than you when it comes to betting on horse races", and then "It seems there may still be plenty of things we can go head to head in", shows that Akechi didn't actually know whether he would be able to provide Kusuo with a challenge. And that he's happy he can! Because it means that he and Kusuo can play together!
And tbh, Akechi himself probably has trouble finding people who can keep up with him in games. He mentions in the same chapter that he doesn't have any friends and isn't even sure what social people do for fun, rip.
So anyways, it just really hit me that the ability to be playmates is so important for a deep personal relationship. Like if you can't feel safe enough to relax and be silly and vulnerable, and try new and different things together, how good is that relationship really, y'know??
Yeah. That line gets me every time lol.
Stupid Answer:
Love that he's trying so hard to take the conversation away from anything that could mess up the manga rating but as soon as someone makes an incorrect statement about dick, he immediately has to correct them with penis ethnography. We stan this pan king lmao.
My special interest is cock and brother, I'm about to start info-dumping.

sorry 2 add to the makoto discussion but while royal was great in some parts i hate the student festival scene with akechi's number. i highly dislike how akiren just gives her akechi's number with no warning (it was already established he knows makoto. her not having his number means they're not close!) it felt like a breach of privacy to me, like i wouldn't want my friend to give out my number without my consent...? he doesn't even accept when she contacts him?? was it so hard to have akiren be the one talking to him from the get-go..?
never be sorry to add to discussion my guy i love talking/discussing/debating lore. in fact if there are any makoto stans out there who severely disagree with i said PLEASE tell me why you like her so much i genuinely do want to know
YES THAT TOO WHY DID IT HAVE TO BE MAKOTO WHO REACHED OUT TO HIM... akiren's close to goro already at thay point, wouldn't it make more sense for him to reach out? i guess you could argue that makoto needs the number to formally ask him to rep shujin but ren could've.. yk..... run it by him first........asked if hes ok with makoto having his number since he's a full fledged celebrity... also hes the leader things like this are kind of his job
there's also makoto just kind of... assigning herself to the pts immediately after escaping kaneshiro's bank. she awakens to johanna and immediately after she says (and i quote) "i never thought i'd be a part of the phantom thieves i was hunting... sis would faint if she found out!!!" and i was like...girl .... we never said you were one of us??? you've been a pain in the neck since day one and now that you happened to get that stick out of your ass you just Assumed you're a part of the scooby gang?? without asking us first????????? come on now.

sigh. another shuake rant that literally makes no sense god be with me pls…
title speaks for itself. not in the best mood rn but i feel like transness was in the air today and even if it gloomy as heck, the air is more pretty.. hmmm sounds like transfeminism to me.
i always and i mean always fall for the transgirl characters even transgirl irl i love transness sm i love femininity, not feminine identifying myself but MY GOD feminine presentation is beautiful, all kinds. and yes, i have to make everything about shuake. i feel like one reason i really like them so much is cuz of my own projections onto them, its uhm.. a lot that goes into all that but in the general, i based akechi on someone i heavily care about and met last year (which when once talking to them told me about how they would think about transitioning like mtf when they grew older) and with that, was born my akechi transfemme headcanon. didnt realize it at the time, didnt realize many things but i also ended up learning apparently i have a thing for transfemme characters and just feminine presenting characters in general! like to list some characters i have hyperfixated on in the past esp in the art category goes from maya fey to saki tenma to akechi in that order and when it comes to some of favorite characters i wasnt able to draw more often due to a bunch of other stuff were characters like phoenix wright and mizuki akiyama and further in both lists is a bunch more. and its true i only listed two characters i really like headcanon as transfemme there but i see phoenix more of a feminine guy, still being cis but liking more pink girly “gay” shit lol and obviously the struggles that come with that. i see saki and maya as more femme girls liking pink and struggling with their femininity in a way that goes with sexuality and what it feels to be the femme one in a relationship or a feminine presenting woman which brings me into my bigger topic.
mi nina bella arquita (arca the singer lol) posted on her story a tumblr post about transfeminity and how difficult the experience is for trans women and mind you im not a trans woman myself but just knowing the experience of being a woman or being born female more like it like i cant imagine what that must be like to somebody who is new to that concept, even if it’s scientifically not very different, i can’t imagine learning that so late in life or whenever u learn it to someone treated as a complete outsider if that makes any sense. and again like i stated early and in no little more to my adhd i always think about akechi, its just a necessity atp. but he was somebody who never got the chance to even think about things like that, like i know what that experience feels like, as a trans person myself and mind you my upbringing was very different than his aside being born female and all, i had the time and the support even if very little and not the best to be honest to think on all those things but he didn’t he had nobody else. that even brings me to akira. i dont headcanon akira as transfemme at all i see him as transmasc very heavily to the point i treat it as canon but anywho, its the same sorta contrast. akechi is so closed off to the idea of his transfeminity, even i feel he would already know he’s gay and interact probably with others online who are, very distantly but yea lol i think he would be a stan twitter reveluv but to the idea of being trans and not just trans but transfemme, is a completely different story for him.
while on the other hand, i feel like akira would be so open to the idea. yea maybe he wouldn’t be outwardly telling everyone “HEY IM TRANS!!” yk lmao but thats not really pride, thats not really what it looks like contray to popular belief and also dont even get me started with the fear of the people around you, the first most prominent point. its a whole other fear a whole other level of boundaries that people cross just to know if you have boobs and a pussy or not, from personal experience its disgusting disturbing and just plain out insane. but i feel like with the right people that he trusts its something its more comfortable to share, even sharing with it sojiro despite his age and the fact that most adults don’t care to respect to understand transness. i feel like akechi would be so terrified to even think about it, the fear of even asking someone he knows is trans (little stalker lmao) because it forces him to think. and it makes others question yk you don’t really ask someone “hey what does it feel like to be trans” for a friend lol.
i also think about shuake as a whole too the fact that i think akechi would grow that level of comfortability to even ask at some point, probably right before he’d die but the effort was put you know? the question was asked, the barriers were broken and i think their love is so beautiful because even with anything and everything, akira would still be there for him. not just because akira loves him which to be honest, probably has a much bigger sentiment but in a way, that just sorta feels like an obligation right? akira wants to be there for akechi because he knows what that feels like even if, no he really doesn’t because being a trans woman and being a trans man are very different experiences it all ties back to the same string. men and women really aren’t that different, we’re all human and the literal same species. we all have brains and can think for ourselves and oh does the list go on. the experience is obviously very different societally, which can not be ignored with our current society but again, he wants to be there for him because hey, you’re a transgender person like me too. the support and comfort i never had. pushing that extra level of questioning and testing and support and validation and whatever it may be because yes being a transwomam not have been the same experience akira went through but he is still trans and in that simple word lies some kind of a connection and the type of support he was never given. he had to learn it himself and he’s just passing it onto akechi. like again again, yes he loves him but he knows what he needs and like ugh. that is just so beautiful i love solidarity
its so many things that make their relationship for me that i feel i will never find again. something so beautiful in the complex, no little thanks to my multiple personality disorders as if one wasn’t enough. something so beautiful in the support and love you can offer somebody and i wish wish wish wishh transphobia wasn’t such a PLAGUE in everything! like ugh naoto, the storyline you deserved… honestly fuck atlus with all my heart tbh♥

actually I'm gonna be self indulgent here. I think it would be really good if the p5r arena equivalent we've been waiting for since fucking 2017 is the akechi game and focuses on tying together the modern persona trilogy with the first two games.
p5(r) was incredibly successful and even people who aren't diehard persona fans are interested in a proper sequel to the game. diehard fans have been begging for arena bc we VERY MUCH want to see the shadow ops interact with the thieves. and a high percentage of diehard fans are also akechi stans and we want proper akechi backstory + survival confirmation fuck you
if team persona finally has permission to bring in p1+p2 lore and characters from the og writers, then p5r arena would be a pretty good opportunity. that was what ultimax did with p3 and p4. and ofc everyone also wants the p3 + p4 teams to properly meet the thieves
using akechi would be smart not just bc a significant portion of fans want him back, but bc:
it would be virtually impossible to bring him back without a significant portion of the plot being dedicated to him. he's the deurtagonist and tends to steal the spotlight in every scene if he's there.
cognitive psience has to be related to previous persona research and there seemed to be one major funder. who then used that research to train a metaverse assassin. which is akechi.
like- it would be pretty stupid to make a true p5r sequel and not address cog psi directly. it comes up constantly, yet there's no explanation as to why the fuck shido got involved. ig you can hand wave and say it was yaldy, since shido certainly... sees himself as chosen by god.
but we still don't know what wakaba was doing. why the fuck was shido so dead set on her research specifically. what does he mean that he "taught" akechi how to use his powers. and featherman seeker certainly... suggests that akechi was used as a test subject at some point.
I really do think this is all a pretty damn good way to bring in p1 + p2 + p3. the connection is pretty easy to make.
p4 doesn't come in as directly, but I think it's reasonable to have naoto trying to figure out what was actually going on with the mental shutdowns (since I doubt shido or joker implicated akechi by name). or just working with the shadow ops, since I maintain the shadow ops stepping in and managing akechi's ""probation"" would be a good entry point
#☢️.txt#'what are the thieves doing' idk. maybe something looks like mental shutdowns and then oops! akechis alive#now akechi prove you arent doing this#honestly i have a lot of ideas as for how an akechi protag sequel could work. very cool ones.#like this asshole needs to have a confidant/social link with a record store owner#and smth involving his obvious love of sci fi

Your recent poll just made me think of how I've seen certain toxic stans try to claim that 'OH IF AKECHI WAS A GIRL THEN EVERYONE WOULD SEE HER AND JOKER'S STORY AS A LOVE STORY!'
Like ignoring the inevitable discourse that come from a fem!Akechi being a morally complicated female character. No, it would be treated like any other ship in a fandom where some people will love it because they love the dynamic and some people will hate because they don't like the dynamic and don't need the characters to be a certain sexuality to like a ship.
Yeah. I specified Joker as fem in that poll because I was trying to get a gauge on how much people felt Akechi's popularity was tied to the ship and m/f ships aren't as popular as m/m ships in my experience (though. That might be because I'm usually here), and Akechi being Female added wayyyy too many variables (because as i said i was trying to figure out why people who like Akechi get way more mad at other characters doing stuff that isn't as bad)
But you're right that it would be a love story *if it was a love story.* Like even if it was a romance option it would ALWAYS be optional. If you want to argue that you'd have also have to argue that ShuMako is a love story
Basically yeah. Like as much as I will joke about a ship i like being canon whne they're two feet away from each other, i don't. Actually think they're canon or the only way to ship something
If Atlus was gonna intentionally write a love story that'd be a different game you know?
...not sure any of that made sense
#this is a long way of saying CHROBIN SHIPPERS WHO HATE SUMIA DIE BY MY FUCKING BLADE#alto replies#nexttrickanvils

Get ready for the great american novel
Atsushi, Chuuya, Arjuna, Nightingale, Moran, P5 Makoto
LMAO NO PLEASE GIVE ME MORE FEED ME
First impression
Atsushi: awwwwwwww babey
Chuuya: oh god oh fuck he's my type shit
Arjuna: huh! indian servant! i know literally nothing about indian mythology beyond names of gods/goddesses, so Okay I Guess
Nightingale: SHE'S WHAT CLASS NOW???? WHAT??????
Moran: MTP version? Like, "oh fuck he's my type huh"
Makoto: Oh. Oh god. It's just me. Mortifying ordeal time....
Impression now
Atsushi: AWWWWW BABEY X100 he's a precious angel with so much trauma and deserves to be protected, but also baby stop relying on Dazai so much.
Chuuya: HE'S STILL MY TYPE and I love him a lot and the concept of Arahabaki is fucking fascinating. There's a lot of potential there, but also I just. Love this bitch ass tiny mafioso.
Arjuna: He's not one of my favorite Servants, but he has his very cute moments as someone very serious or trying to be serious who gets dragged into Bullshit as not so above it all. His irrational rivalry with Karna is hilarious.
Nightingale: What the fuck do you mean she was this fucking weird in real life??? But also she's very fun, if terrifying.
Moran: I need to catch up on MTP but I still love him, and in general he's one of the more fascinating bit parts in the Holmes stories and has a lot of potential for fun.
Makoto: WE STAN A QUEEN. She's amazing. I love her. She's like me only ballsier, I wish I had her in high school.
Favorite moment
Atsushi: Probably either him rescuing Kyouka the first time on the train, or him beating the absolute mcfuck out of Fitzgerald. Be brave little tiger! Oh also him wrecking Shibusawa.
Chuuya: THE ENTIRE DRAGON FIGHT IN DEAD APPLE CHANGED MY LIFE PERMANENTLY. But also, Fifteen was so good.
Arjuna: I'm not counting Godjuna, so probably him showing up in events to be overly serious and straight man and failing.
Nightingale: Her speech to Cu Alter at the end, her Santa event, her being so unamused with Dantes.
Moran: OH GOD IT'S BEEN A WHILE SINCE I READ MTP....but his arc with his former army stuff was really good.
Makoto: Her awakening for sure, also her all out attack makes me giddy I love the freezeframe.
Idea for a story
Atsushi: Honey get a vacation. Go to the beach. Do normal teenager things.
Chuuya: exploring Arahabaki in venues other than Stormbringer, hellyeah.
Arjuna: YOU WILL TELL ME ABOUT YOUR BROTHERS IN THE FATEVERSE YOU NERD
Nightingale: Interactions with the rest of the Chaldea Nursing Staff would be very fun.
Moran: I HAVE NO IDEA WHOOPS
Makoto: As with all my P5 answers for this, More Akechi Interactions, I want them to talk about her dreams for commissionership and how she understands forcing yourself into a Perfect Little Japanese Teenager box to fit in and meet expectations.
Unpopular opinion
Atsushi: I don't know opinions on him? Whoops.
Chuuya: While I don't mind the stuff Stormbringer did as much as most people seemed to, I do agree that I think Asagiri leaned too much into Nasu's "magic is computer science" mindset.
Arjuna: ....I don't have enough opinions on him oops.
Nightingale: What are opinions on her even?
Moran: .....I don't like BBC Sherlock. Fullstop.
Makoto: I think she needs to really reflect on what her dream means considering her relationships with Akira "burned hard by the justice system" Kurusu and knowing Akechi and what he went through, and she needs to be aware of what it means to be a police officer.
Favorite relationship
Atsushi: More than him and Dazai, I love him and Kyoka and the rest of the ADA and the found family needs to get explored more.
Chuuya: SOUKOKU AAAAAAA----
Arjuna: Obviously him and Karna, lets go boys.
Nightingale: I don't ship it, but her and Dantes' thing they've got going where he calls her Mercedes as a nickname and he thinks she's fucking insane -- not that he's not, but not in that way -- it's hilarious.
Moran: Him and James and the rest of the Moriarty team are always good.
Makoto: Her relationship with all the PT is very good! If I didn't ship shuake as hard as I did I'd definitely like her and Joker together.
Favorite headcanon
Atsushi: Teach this boi how to do normal teen stuff please, he doesn't know things most teenagers should.
Chuuya: Not sure! I don't have many headcanons.
Arjuna: Uhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Nightingale: She can will and HAS knocked people out to make them at least get five minutes rest. She's terrified even the other Berserkers by this point.
Moran: God I cannot remember.
Makoto: I don't think I have too many headcanons for her!
