So I just finished the lineart and did a lil color test but I'm just not happy with the way it turned out??

At first I thought I was just being insecure abt my artstyle but when I started sketching anime girls in my notes I realized,

I'm YEARNING for an artstyle change

at some point, creators are just going to stop pitching their show ideas to Netflix (or other streaming platforms), right? like if they want multiple seasons, if they want to tell a story in more than eight episodes, they're just going to go elsewhere. And then this cycle will end and we will all be free.

I dunno, for most of my life that's the type of art I consumed and studied. I have an easier time drawing monsters, animals, anthro or furry characters than humans cuz I find them more dynamic and entertaining, lots of fun shapes that you don't see in a human, I think that made it easier for me

Gesture & Figure Studies

I mentioned in a previous post that a professor of mine gave me some resources that I find super helpful, and that once he fixed the links to those resources, I would share them here.

So, as promised, I'm making a post to compile the various online goodies I've been given/stumbled across on my own. All of these are super good resources to practice gesture drawing for free, and in a more comfortable environment than staring at a real person three feet away from you. Some of these are also good references to have for longer drawings, so feel free to use them in whatever way helps you! Links put below:

Before anything, I think it's important to explain what exactly gesture is. At its core, gesture is simply looking at some form of reference, and drawing what you see as quickly as possible. Gesture drawing isn't actually exclusive to drawing people; it's helpful with pretty much all subject matter, such as still-lifes or landscapes. This post focuses on figure studies, but the techniques found here can be used elsewhere too.

These exercises are typically done in increments of 30 seconds-5 minutes. That's not a lot of time, so it's very important to not get hung up on details while working. Instead, focus on whatever you're drawing in its entirety; the point is to capture the energy of whatever you're looking at, not each individual shape. These drawings tend to look a little goofy and that's perfectly fine! The important part is proportion and energy, not form.

CRYING AND SCREAMING AND CRYING AND- Okay okay okay so. So I am kinda SUPER bad at explaining my process. I'm not great at doing step by steps because I kinda don't really HAVE a certain order I draw things. More so a skeleton I tend to use and work around each time. SO I hope this little mock up of my usual sketching skeleton helps in any kind of way!

I adjust anatomy and sizing a lot when I draw cause, ngl, I have a bad habit of making heads too small or legs too long/short and hands too big. So I won't pretend I'm great at anatomy. But there's certain shapes in the body I use a lot when drawing. I hope this kind of uh shows those shapes??? God I hope this makes ANY sort of sense. Feel free to study this or any of my silly doodles to try and get the hang of it!
