Oh, I have this one story idea in my mind, based on this one art...

Can't say much without spoilering , but this story has some angsty development. Like, very angsty.

Other than this, it's also a story about how AruAni met and fell in love, so some kind of strangers to lovers, with a lot of immediate attraction and interest, all set in Switzerland, 1911.

The caption in the original post - "It was the love at first sight" - is a leitmotif of this whole story.

I've been thinking about it while working on this drawing, and I didn't consider writing it, but the more time passes - the more I think that, eventually, I'll write it...

Oh, good question! I don't really have a lot of fics, but I think I would love to write for Neverland of (Our) Desires, the Fort Salta oneshot-sequel, where AruAni are caught in feelings and have an awkward-silly conversation about their boat *adventure*, with all these emotions and feelings of having the life ahead of them and not knowing what to do with it... Oh well, oh well, such a potential 🤌

Hm... Honestly, I've been into Forbidden Love or Star-crossed Lovers tropes recently...

It's quite canonical AruAni, to be honest, and I just love to think about it in different AUs and canon-compliant too, so yes, I would say these ones! And here a remark, that Forbidden Love/Star-crossed Lovers don't mean that it's a tragic ending - more like obstacles and a lot of angst, which challenge the characters and their love, and how it all develops within the plot.

14 - where do you get your inspiration?

You know, I thought I had a proper answer for it, but when I started typing it, I realized, that, in fact, I don't.

If I'm totally honest - I don't think I even have something special as "inspiration". I have ideas that pop up in my mind on their own, and then, I turn them into story or a moment in the fic, but I never particularly searched for it. I suppose, it's also a consequence of my constant art and literature involving, where I read/observe/study something, so I have this almost never-stopping source of new experience and knowledge, which leads to ideas and inspiration to create my own stories/drawings.

So, I think that my inspiration is constant studying and sources of knowledge.

My unpublished modern AU where Di Feisheng is an MMA fighter cowboy, Li Lianhua is his chiropractor, and Fang Xiaobao is the new sheriff in one of those Chinese towns they built purely for tourism. In this case, it's an Old West theme. Here's a preview.

My Mo Dao/Percy Jackson crossover where WangXian and friends romp through Camp Half-Blood!

My Wen Xu/Wei Wuxian/Lan Wangji AU where Wei Wuxian is adopted by the Wens instead of Jiang Fengmian. I swear I subvert so many jianghu tropes, this could be its own original novel, but here we are lol.

My two-part where Jin Zixuan flees to Lotus Pier and manages to alert the Jiangs in time for the Wang Lingjiao's attack. It's mostly written from Yu Ziyuan's perspective, and it's been a delight.

Which one are you finding the hardest to finish?

Definitely #1 under Mo Dao. It's a huge labor of love, but I'm thinking maybe I thought too big with the plot. It could have just been a fun teenage romp, but then it turned into a drama that handles much larger themes, and the trouble is in being able to tie up all the plotlines I suddenly have.

What does it usually look like when inspiration strikes for you?

Usually when I have two days in a row off of work, so my brain has had at least 24 hours to clear out and think about fun. I go into a pleasant fugue state, meaning I'm focused, but I can occasionally take a five-minute break to chatter about it with my frens or listen to a song. (I'm answering this post while I'm working on fic btw.)

Do you curate playlists for each fic or is your process different?

Oh nah lol. I sometimes line some chill songs or ballads up in the background or like a Buzzfeed Unsolved marathon for background noise, but sometimes it has the opposite effect where I can't focus at all. So sometimes I just write in complete silence.

Do you go balls to the wall and write as you go or are you more organized?

Balls to the waaaaaaall babeeeeeee. Aside from the ones that're born from me chattering with frens. Both my Lianhua Lou fics and #2 under MDZS are from very specific and thorough chats that I screenshotted for reference.

Doing some oversharing because I'm starting to think it's vital that we all are honest about our struggles so we don't feel alone and so we know we're not failures. We're just people.

It's been a low production year for me. It's been a difficult year in general, but sometimes change is hard even when it's change you need.

Over half my year was eaten up with job hunting, moving, and trying to adjust while feeling the depressive effects of not having a local friend/support network yet or enough money for whatever the fuck the economy is, esp in this area relative to my salary. A good deal of my body of works for 2023 were written pre-move. Hell, a good deal of them were written in the first quarter. (Which, btw, shout out to anyone else who often feels a bittersweet sort of regret at not being productive in the current internet environment where you feel like you're old news if you can't keep up an unsustainable output. I love you, same, it's prob not true anyway, and here are 200 forehead kisses. <33) All of that said, I'm feeling much better lately. I've been reading again. Writing again. Feeling like I'm living again. I'm looking forward to another arbitrary border of time and on filling that border with joy, especially queer joy and weird joy and the intersection of both of those. As they say: let's fucking gooo.

I still love it here. I know steddie won't be forever for me, just like other ships before them weren't forever for me. But I'm having fun and have been really enjoying some of the connections made in this little sandbox.

ᯓ★ i’ve been writing and revising a literary horror book called the lambs, screaming for a couple years now. there’s a lot of religious imagery, body horror, vague supernatural/eldritch fuckery, and a complex homoerotic friendship between two despicable, grieving girls casey and bethan.

ᯓ★ i have been intermittently writing and planning out two full-length novels based on unpublished short stories of mine. the first is a modular novel following multiple people’s lives as they are impacted by an alien invasion except the aliens aren’t here to invade, they’re here to learn. the second is another literary speculative fiction following two main characters: a young neanderthal woman that has been jurassic park’d by a lab in northern california (this is a real thing scientists are trying to do btw), and one of the female anthropologists that contributed to this experiment. i refer to this project as unironically planet of the apes for phoebe bridgers enjoyers.

I'm actually writing Adar's perspective for the first time? After almost two years of writing about him, I'm finally writing from his perspective and it's a little scary, ngl. I normally try to make my POV writing distinct enough that you can tell who it is without a chapter header but I'm not sure I'm always successful. I'm hoping this fic will help!

was looking through my older arle wips and this dialogue goes insanely hard i think?!?!?!? spoilers for, like, half of an entire fic utc LMAOO i just really felt like i could not cut out any of the context, so this is a huge ass snippet of an unpublished wip!! it takes place after her story quest btw <3

"Father..." "My child." Arlecchino was quick to drag the stool at the foot of their bed to the side and sit. "Father, I—" They tried to sit up, grimacing through the pain that clawed across the entirety of their body as they did. The Fourth did not allow them to get far, however, and placed a firm hand on their chest. They had no choice but to settle back down. "Do not get up. You will only hurt yourself—" "Father—" "—And spare yourself the chore of speaking." Their mouth closed without another word. All they could do was stare up at her, eyes wide and bewildered and perfectly displaying all the questions they wished to ask, though one in particular stood out the most—'Why are you here?' Perhaps the Knave could read their mind. (She had no such ability. It was simply part of her responsibility as Father, to know her children and what they were thinking.) "My child," she mused again, this time not in greeting, though she did not continue. Perhaps she was looking for the words. Her fingers gingerly brushed the hair from their face, briefly brushing over the scratch across their forehead. Ah. One among the many wounds she bestowed upon them a day prior. It wasn't regret that washed upon her upon realizing the severity of their wounds in particular—no, they made the choice to join the fight knowing well that she would not be gentle on them or their siblings, and she would argue that regret was a useless emotion only capable of holding one back. What's done was done. It was as simple as that. Regret, much like sorrow, does naught but hold a person back. ...Yet, she still felt something, though she struggled identifying what it was.

"I'm sorry." Their voice cut through her thoughts. Though they tried their very best to mask it, it wavered almost imperceptibly, the tremble only audible to trained ears—ears like hers. The Fourth Harbinger was not known for being obtuse. She noticed, and they could tell. Nothing ever slipped by her. "And what is it that you are apologizing for, exactly?" "I... I don't know. I just feel like you're disappointed in me somehow, and I don't know how else to remedy it at the moment." 'At the moment,' she assumed, meant their current bedridden state. "I know not what has given you such an impression. I am not disappointed." "...You're not?" "Certainly not. If you are referring to your interception of our spar," she began, "defending your family is the most kingly action you could have taken in that moment. In fact, I expected no less of you." "I'm not kingly," they replied, offering a weak chuckle as they continued: "At least, I don't feel kingly right now..." "Then how is it that you feel?" "Pathetic, maybe." They turned their head fully to the side so that they were able to meet her gaze. "I know I can't and probably will never be able to triumph over you in a spar, but—" "Perish the thought. Immediately." "Huh?" Her eyes bore into theirs. This time, however, they did not feel fear. "You did not win the war," she affirmed, "but I would certainly say you won the battle." She leaned closer. With one hand, she brushed the framing hair that normally fell over her cheeks to the side. There, a long cut was scabbed over with dry crimson, and suddenly, their heart leapt—whether it was from an odd pride in having been able to actually hit her, or shame and embarrassment that they actually caused harm to Father of all people, they did not know. The Knave allowed her hair to fall back into place. "Though the odds were stacked against you and yours, you ultimately managed to wound me. This was something that not even your siblings managed to achieve." "I could argue that it's only because there were so many of us." "Perhaps, but it was still you who caused this wound. I lost track of you for only a moment and you took the opportunity. Progress does not happen overnight, child, and your strength is still growing. One day, you will be the king of this house. You will deliver these kinds of wounds to others, as I have delivered to you." Her gaze shifted to their bedside table. "...That is, if you so desire that life." The bottled flames swirled and flared in the vial.

WIP Wednesday

Okay, so I've never done one of these before, but I wanted to ask for some input on my wip so far. Be aware:

This WIP is far from published!

I just wanted to see how it did on tumblr and maybe try to see if anyone is interested in this kind of story. DISCLAIMER: I am not much of a writer (this is my first official fic- I have written unpublished drabbles and one shots though), so apologies if this sucks. (There is more below the break btw)

“Would it change anything?” Pete asks through a tightened throat and he doesn’t feel Tom’s hand shift, almost like he was expecting Pete to say this. Tom doesn’t answer, at least not verbally, but his eyes tell Pete everything, like they always have. 

It couldn’t. 

Pete and Tom knew the consequences of their relationship. They knew they would never be a regular couple, able to hold hands out in public, or tell friends and their jobs about their relationship. 

But I wish it did. 

Tom didn’t want this either; apparently it was up to higher powers to make both of their decisions for them, no matter what they wanted. Pete didn’t choose to lose Goose. Or Carole. Or to never know his father. And Tom never chose to live in a society like this; where he had to choose between his dream career or a secret that would tear both of their reputations to shreds in a heartbeat. 

Tom closes the distance between them, leaning down to place his forehead against Pete’s. Their breathing matches pace, clicking them together naturally, as if four months haven’t passed since they’ve been together. He feels Tom’s other hand come to the left side of his face, holding onto it like it’s the last thing he’ll ever touch, before the man leans in to press their lips together. 

Pete hates that he kisses back. Hates that his hands grip Tom’s forearms automatically before deepening the kiss. He hates that Tom moves his hands to Pete’s back and presses them even closer together, and that he knows he likes that. Pete lets himself grip the back of Tom’s shirt and he hates that Tom knows what that means. 

Tom pulls the plain gray shirt over his head before continuing to kiss Pete harder. He lifts the hem of Pete’s shirt, placing his cool hands on the warm skin of Pete’s waist, causing him to stiffen at the drastic temperature change. Pete needs Tom closer… he pulls his shirt off, pressing their chest together before finally breaking the kiss off. He rests his head on Tom’s chest, breathing heavily to catch his breath.

This is a bad idea.

Pete feels Tom’s breathing soften and he uses his forehead to push his head off the other man’s chest. He keeps his eyes down before (he already hates himself for this) pressing a kiss to Tom’s collarbone. 

“Are you sure?” His voice is just above a whisper and Pete feels weak for nodding his head ‘yes’. He looks up at Tom and they lock eyes. They both know what each other is thinking-

This is a bad idea…

Tom presses Pete’s chin up and leans down to kiss him and it almost feels like old times. Like they’re in their old, shared assignment and Pete is home on shore leave. Like their relationship is perfectly fine and they’re just enjoying their time together. Back then it felt like nothing was looming over the both of them…

Tom pushes Pete into his bedroom, barely breaking kisses before trailing a line down his neck.

I know this is only about 500 words (don't worry I have more), but I did NOT want to spoil some MAIN plot points. 278,494 but with me being the kind of person to not post WIPs, that number is not representative of how many words I've actually written.

I just checked all my docs, and my unpublished WIPs come out to 460 393 words so far (across 4 different long fics and 3 oneshots).

So my actual word count is 738 887. what the fuck. i started writing this year btw (in february i think) so this is probably a sign of something worrying lol

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I only have 4 fics posted but the order is : equals in life, let the light in, love is such a dreadful thing (and dread is so lovely), and to hold your life in my decaying hands

Yes! I just enjoy interacting with people who took the time to read, enjoy, and comment on my fics. People are generally very nice to me too, so it's always a pleasure to chat.

I don't really do angsty endings lol. I suppose I have to say equals in life bc it's bittersweet? but it's not angsty imo

14. What’s your all time favourite ship?

If you asked me this last year I would've said Drarry, and my answer would have been the same over the last ten years. However, I have come to favour Tomarry & Harrymort, I sway more closely to Harrymort between the two but not enough for me to give a definitive answer.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Er, I didn't count this one in my answer to the word count question but I have a tiny bit of it written. It would've been an eighth year Drarry fic where Harry's struggling through the aftermath of losing Voldemort's soul -- it would've been the most Harrymort coded Drarry fic lmao. But I don't think I'll ever finish it, simply bc my other WIPs are a lot more interesting.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I would say dialogue, and I'm quite good at what I call recall, I rarely forget details about my fics so I like sprinkling in recalls to lots of little details previously mentioned, sometimes so small the reader wouldn't be able to pick them up I think.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

Action scenes are the bane of my existence. I'm just Not Good at them. The writing doesn't flow, the scene is badly set up, they're just not my thing. I actually have a WIP I started in the hopes of getting better at action scenes haha.

I'm not that good at describing people. With it being fanfiction I just assume people know what they look like, but even if they do, physical descriptions add so much to the fic, and I should do them more often.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I'm guilty of this lol. I like doing it in french bc it's fun, but for another fic I had to sprinkle in some italian (i don't speak italian) and it's just stressful (thankfully my beta does understand italian so they helped me). I try not to do it in languages I don't speak.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

I'm going to say Harry Potter, but I'm not going to check that. I know that when I was younger I wrote quite a bit of fanfic I kept to myself, and I'm fairly certain the first was Harry Potter. But I also know I wrote some other stuff that I will not be disclosing lol

20. Favourite fics you’ve written?

I have to say it, equals in life (partners in death)

But, I'm very fond of this oneshot I wrote: to hold your life in my decaying hands

And my favourite long fic I've written is If we were lovers, which will hopefully be out before the end of the year.

"2k is long" is also nonsense i'm so sorry 😭 2k is barely anything if you're trying to introduce an AU and actually flesh in a setting and especially if you're trying to show different personality traits 😭 your fic are mostly AUs with really well thought out lore, and it needs the word count to breathe and establish everything. if someone's attention span is too short to read more than - what - 2 pages? that's their problem, not yours! fwiw, my fic lengths range with the shortest starting at around 5k and the longest getting close to 30k and i have never had anyone leave a complaint about the length! people are more than willing to sit through 10k+ just to get to the smutty stuff, and they usually end up enjoying the rest of the fic as well. do not worry about it! you're doing just fine 🩷

I don't often look at the length of a fic unless im updating someone on how long its getting. My shortest wip is 100 words. And. Ive posted it to here bcs i feel it'll never be finished.

If it does get finished eventually then i will post it as a fic but. Until then it sits in my drafts.

My fics almost always include worldbuilding to at least 3k now. Though not all of them were like that.

Do you want in on a secret? I don't think out the world for my aus. It fleshes itself out. I think on what may happen n go from there. The story writes itself. I am just a vessel for the words and visions.

I am absolutely terrible at worldbuilding if im doing it consciously.

Its why i have visible headcanons for idols. But i just can't put them into words haha.

The fic i thought through the most, probably is one ive not even started wtiting. The dissection fic. I gotta do all sorts of research so i can make sure its accurate and well done.

Which unfortunately means i gotta look at anatomy from a more medical standpoint. Need to go find a book for that..

The first fic i put out actually has a very strong plot hole. That i told myself id patch before posting it but. I didn't.

That plot hole was the reasoning as to why ivan was doing that to hwon. It has a very weak reason and i could absolutely fix it now. But. Not this year.

I write ab 5k minimum most of the time haha. I prefer letting the story fill itself out n then helping fine tune details. Its why i really can't tell you how long a fic may be.

So far my longest fic is 16k words. Published. Theres more unpublished. That's for the abandoned but not orphaned one.

I may return to it eventually. That's why i didn't wanna orphan it.

All of my fics stop at a point they organically would have stopped at. When i feel it can't really take another scene. I end it. That usually leaves spaces for part twos to them as well!

But i like exploring aus as i write them.

Fun fact! I write aus bcs im worried that if i do anything else i may accidentally copy someone else's idea.

I do get inspired by the other kd writers. Oh gods do i get inspired.

Lee, lunar, eve, even erin, who encourages the hwonicide. They all inspire me in their own ways. Does that usually come in the form of a prompt to note down asap? Yeah.

But other ways are helping with details for fics. And they are all very welcome to chat ab fics w me. I don't steal ideas. Not without permission and changing it to be my own.

I have a prompt that is inspired by eve's fic Clear My Mind (eve is karmacumover btw!)

But it is different. I may show her the prompt itself if she wants to see it haha.

But i love working on fics. Even if I can't be proud of them as a 'look i made this!' i can still look at the work and go 'yeah. Thats good.'

Thank you lee for helping me figure out how to do that. It was amazing to be able to step back and go 'thats a good story' if i removed myself from it.

One day. One day my goal is to be proud of how much I've written. Of what I've written.

Its a goal i think is far away. But the more i talk to other writers. The more i realize.

Im not as bad at writing as i think i am.

Honestly id never even considered myself a good writer, until i asked writers like lee and erin their feedback on my works. And they both said i write well. Maybe a little dialogue heavy but. Thats fine i can work on it.

Im doing my best. And im trying to ensure i continue getting better.

The more i talk to other writers and see how they talk ab my writing. The more i go. 'maybe im too harsh on myself' but. As they say, you are your own worst critic.

Honestly i never even considered my work good enough to do much with. But. Lunar still offered to possibly do a collab or fic trade. And i keep thinking on it. Maybe.

It makes me think they find me a better writer than i find myself to be.

Then i see eve, reacting to some of the xlips of airen!ivan ive put out. And she's reacting as i would for any of lee's clips. I find lee an amazing writer. It seems eve thinks of me that way too.

Im trying to wrap my head around it. But the reason i am so harsh on myself is. Anxiety and self doubt. And i need to work through them.

Thats the first time ive admitted that.

I will work through my weaknesses, and be better than before. Slowly. It takes time. I have to be patient.

One day. One day i will be able to proudly say 'im a good writer'

Its not today. But. It will be an eventuality.

BTSing my Fic w/Juno: DoTWD's Art (Slight Spoilers)

WIPs since i took a bit of a break because of my allergies

When I plan images, I color code them like so:

Green, Blue, Purple & Red. In order the represent Image 1, 2, 3 & 4. When the colors start over, it means that it's a different scene.

I got through the chapter, highlight any scene I feel should have art for it and then rough draft it as such.

Sometimes, even when I do that, images may or many not stay in the final cut. Chapter 1 is a great example because out of the 14 images made for that chapter, only 8 were used.

The rest remained unused because they really weren't the quality I prefer. Here's my fave of Rachel that I scrapped lol (also an example of that quality issue)

Also, you either didn't notice or did but Rachel didn't have a headband in 5 of those images because those were render using her old model. The only reason they stayed because (tbh i didn't feel like wasting more time and pushing off the upload because of it) they weren't as bad as the others:

Writing Updates!!

For anyone who doesn’t follow me on Twitter (or if my posts haven’t been showing up on your tl recently lol) here’s some updates on what I’ve been up to for the past month or so!

First off, I participated in NaNoWriMo again this year and I won with 50,345 words!

About 14k went to a new pza oneshot WIP that can best be described as a modern AU mashup of the Iliad & the film The Dreamers and whose draft is about one-third of the way through now.

The other 36k went to the Where The Dead Forget manuscript, mostly drafting chapters 6, 7, 8, & 9 (chapter 7 ended up getting split into 7 and 8 in the process so now the whole thing is 22 chapters).

In my notes for chapter 5 on AO3, I said I would be publishing chapter 6 before November and then having chapter 7 done before the end of the year but I ended up letting myself take a break from writing in October so I could do reading & outlining while refilling my creative cups and I think that ended up being the correct choice!

So that just means I’m now gonna be editing and publishing WTDF ch 6 in December, and since the rough drafts for the next three chapters after that are near completion, I’m hoping the time between updates will be shorter for the time being. It actually seems rather efficient for me to write 3-4 chapter chunks at once so if I’m able to also edit & publish several chapters at a faster clip this way I might cycle between “writing months” and “editing months”.

My unpublished manuscript docs are now at 72k and if we add that to the almost 51k of WTDF I’ve already published, that puts it at 122k… rough estimate it’s about 50% complete. Soooo yeah it’s another one of THOSE fics that completely took on a life of its own and became a monstrosity LMAO. Hope no one minds! uwu

I’ll do my best to publish as much as I can in 2024… hopefully it’ll only take me another year to at least finish all the drafting.

Also one more: I’m participating in a Hades fandom gift exchange this year so after WTDF Ch 6 goes up, I’ll be focusing on writing one more Hadesgame fic with a deadline of mid January. I can’t say anything else, such as what it’s about or even which character(s) and/or ship(s) are involved without possibly giving away the game but trust me I was really excited & honored to receive my giftee and I was immediately inspired (I wrote 1k already!) I hope they’ll like it ;3;

So TL;DR:

WTDF Ch 6 sometime in December (the title is Guilt btw)

Gift Exchange Hades fic in January

Words written (published or not, WIPs included!): approximately 263, 800 words. I don't really keep track and I'm not sure how much of Matchsies was this year so I estimated, and that's also not counting little prompt fills for tumblr, but... too many. Too many words.

Smut scenes: Best count, ten. Yeah in all that. Idk man writing smut is hard.

New things I tried: Writing riskier, sexier, more explicit smut! There might not be a ton of it but it gets spicier every time XD Also a collab on a fic for someone else's OC.

Fic I spent the most time on:  Matchsies and A Complicated Match

Fic I spent the least time on: The first chapter of Strange Feelings in the Party Camp was a really quick burst of inspiration (maybe it was even last year? oh well). I wrote Go! Da'Len, Run! on the bus to/from work one day.

Favourite thing I wrote: Equally fond of all of my "main" fics this year; A Complicated Match (and the latter half of Matchsies), All Hail West Thedas, and Strange Feelings in the Party Camp.

Favourite thing I read: No One Will Get Away With Anything by @transfenris-truther makes me want to chew glass

Writing goals for next year: More smut, more angst, more canon stuff, finish the unpublished enemies to lovers fic, and of course finishing the big Matchsies saga

heh. for this one, we're going to have to go a while back—to before the first ppau fic was even published. i'm honestly curious how many ppau readers even saw ssash—and looking back on it now, it's certainly not my best work (and wow past tense looks weird) but i do still like some of the lines i got in there. anyway, at the end of ssash, i promised that some mikyx angst would be coming soon. then, by hcihelyd, it had been indefinitely shelved. what happened to it?

well, the most obvious answer is loss of motivation. that's the reason for almost all of my wips staying wips, after all. and it's certainly applicable here, but the more important thing that happened is, well…ppau happened.

i've mentioned before how "pure canon" in rpf can get messy very quickly if you're not careful, and this definitely got messy. i'm not going to go into the specifics of why, but let's just say there was a lot of projection going on, whether intentional or not. it wasn't an au, not really, and i'm not really comfortable writing that, especially not with where it was heading. i didn't really have a plot, either. the only thing resembling a plot was just…well. watching xl get reverse swept to get knocked from worlds contention was incredibly depressing, not to mention the loser's interview miky gave after. but eventually i found a different team to write angst about after their loss, and i'm much more proud of that fic :)

so this is never going to get finished, let alone published, but you can have a bit that didn't age too poorly~

how to intimidate a showmaker 101

in a complete tone shift, this one is complete crack. that is, until it switches povs, but i was too lazy to write more than a few paragraphs of that part seeing as i knew i was never going to be able to publish the full thing (thank you for that, lolrpf! i love having to censor everything i write just so it won't be interpreted as shipping), and i also didn't really have a set ending. i had written pretty much everything i planned out~

i do still love it, though. maybe i could change the sensitive part at some point so i can post it here or something. who knows. we'll see.

anyway, as for the actual plot…well. if you read wtua (and if you didn't what are you doing, it's right here), then you might have noticed showmaker mentioning viper putting a knife to his throat the last time scout made him ask viper for help. it's also brought up in dfwydk how showmaker teleported straight to his location and, again, got a blade to his throat. there are also a couple more references in unpublished (for now) things. these are all referring to this…incident.

before showmaker drags scout to jiejie in order to save his life, scout mentions the person who is still talking to him. viper. unfortunately, before he can contact viper himself, he has a sliiight sleep paralysis episode. enter showmaker, who is Definitely Not Concerned At All For Scout's Wellbeing, and who is also being ghosted by scout. as we see in wtua, showmaker's teleportation is…very handy.

here's the most important bit. or, well, the part that i had the most fun writing~

“I asked you a question,” Viper says, stalking towards Showmaker, and gods, speaking of that poison, Showmaker can’t help but recoil at the pain that blossoms in his mind with every word that Viper speaks. He’s all too aware of the gun still trained on his head, but his words are stuck in his throat as he tries to answer Viper.

Viper suddenly moves too quickly for Showmaker to react, and now, as well as a gun digging into his back, there’s a blade at his throat. “I won’t ask it again, Heosu.” The shadows all around the room press in, and though Showmaker knows they’re intangible, he can’t help but feel horribly claustrophobic.

Finally, Showmaker manages to conjure up his magic, frantically throwing out an explanation as quickly as he can. “It’s about Scout!”

Viper’s blade only digs deeper, and Showmaker can feel blood welling up. “What did you do to him?” Viper snarls. It takes all of Showmaker’s willpower not to thrash against the pain from the poison of Viper’s voice and slice his own throat open in the process.

“Nothing, I swear! He needs your help! He said you’d understand,” Showmaker pleads.

“Since when do you care about helping Scout?” Viper spits out. “Last I heard you two weren’t the best of friends.”

it's incredibly self-indulgent, as you can tell, but protective viper is just too much fun. i regret nothing.

we are not the same! but we are two halves of a whole :)

Although I'm curious, do you think after finishing Fairytale Ending, would you still have motivation to continue writing for your other WIPS? You've been writing for this fandom for years, and I couldn't thank you enough for all these good works. Of course I'm hoping you'll never abandon wanting to publish your other WIPS, but I'm wondering how you really feel about it.

FE certainly feels dangerous most of the time before I post. And after I post. I've had to bite my fingers a lot to get it published and pray the meaning behind it all lands.

As for your final question...

Honestly I'm not sure. I'm definitely going to finish FE, but after that, I'm going to have to wait and see how I feel about writing fic, or at least writing for this fandom. It's possible I've said everything meaningful I have to say about the source material and that there's nothing new left. FE is a little outside of this problem, because I've moved the characterizations and events far enough outside of the original canon... but it still contains my essential thesis on the characters and once it's finished, there may be nothing left for me to write. I'm certainly going to go on hiatus once it's finished, and see what happens. You never know though. I went on hiatus from writing fic after After the Fire, But Before the Flood, and ended up coming back with Fairytale Ending. If I do decide to quit the fandom, I would certainly post my WIP files so that whatever is there can be enjoyed. And I suppose leaving the fandom would be to pursue independent writing; I've written a few novels in the past (unpublished, I've never even tried), but since starting the FE project, I've put my writing time into that, and put the rest of my creative energy into my art career. It might be nice to write a new novel though. Lightning would have to strike.
