PRESENT DAY.

My whole life, I knew how much value I was. The granddaughter of the first counseller, the daughter of the current mayor of three past elections.

When I was born, I was dubbed the 'Piltover Princess'. The only daughter, only 'heir' as my mother would say.

I should be grateful. Grateful for the life I have, the comfort. But.. apart of me always seeked more.

To my parents, to the rest of Zaun and Piltover, I was a sweetheart. The nations child, Piltover's darling princess. An academic prodigy, with good grades since I was young.

Yet, I seeked the thrill. The adrenaline rush that you would get when you did something bad, something naughty. Something I shouldn't be doing.

So, to my friends, to the other half of my life, they knew me as the rebel child. The reckless child. The one they had to take care of most of the time when I made bad decisions.

Piltover's Princess wasn't always that sweet, that smart, that behaved. You know how it is.. sometimes, you just have to let loose.

So, that's what I did. What I do.

"Hey." A familiar voice says behind me. "Are you ready?"

I fix the mask over my face, covering my eyes. The soft fabric against my skin bringing me comfort.

When I put this mask on, it's like the rest of the world faded away. I wasn't Belanna. I wasn't Piltovers princess, or the counsellers daughter.

I was the infamous Mimic. The tauntess, the teaser.

I was a weapon in the ring. People placed their bets on me like no tomorrow. People relied on me to win, and I knew that.

But, the pressure wasn't overwhelming, or made me feel worse about myself. Instead, it was.. exhilarating. The pure adrenaline coursing through my body as I stepped into the ring for the first time, hoping— no, knowing I'd make a name for myself that was entirely my own.

A name that didn't belong to Zaun, or Piltover. It belonged to me, and me only.

So, I inhale a deep breath, smelling the scent of cigarettes, beer and other sorts of alcohol that I've found comfort in after all these years. I stand, and i turn toward Griffin, my trainer, and my rock.

"Ready as I can be." I shrug my shoulders, hands flexing as I walk toward him. "How many people tonight?"

He hissed through his teeth. "More then usual."

I crank a brow.

"You've caught yourself a huge crowd, Mimic. More then double."

"They're not here to see me win." I place a hand on his shoulder. "They're here to see me lose." And i smile as I step past him, peeking my head toward the crowd. "But, we both know that won't happen."

"Never go into a fight cocky."

"I'm not cocky." I shake my head, hand reaching up to press against the knot in my shoulder. "I'm confident. There's a difference."

"Whatever you say.." Griffin would shrug. His hand replaces mine. After a second of basking in the feel of his thumb rubbing against the knot in my muscle, I step away. But, he catches me.

"Anna." He says my name. I turn to him, eyes squinting. "I didn't want.. well, I didn't want you to go into that ring without knowing."

He pushed his eyes closed, almost as if what he was saying next pained him to say.

"You know how your opponent is new to the ring?" Griffin questions. Slowly, I nod. "Shes new to this area. But, she's no stranger."

"Spit it out." I demand.

He inhaled a deep breath. He opens his eyes. "It's Vi."

Vi?

1- First up, my posting schedule. The days AREN'T changing. This is just an update on which stories will be released.

This Sunday is the last chapter of Icarus (metal band) and I will start posting its sequel "Around the World" and it's epilogue "The Rise of the Fallen".

Because I want to get as much of "Around the World" out as possible in the spooky month, it will post starting on Tuesday, Oct. 22 and will post one chapter every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday until it completes. Then once it is done, "The Rise of the Fallen" will premier at the first Sunday AFTER "Around the World" is done. So if it ends on Oct. 31st then it will come out on Nov. 3rd. But if it ends on Nov. 5th, the epilogue will premier on Nov. 10th. Does that make sense?

"The Rise of the Fallen" only has two chapters so there is no need to rush them out. So the two chapters will release a week apart.

The Hellfire Club (stripper) is nearing it's completion and will have 13 chapters. It will continue to release every Friday ending on Nov. 22.

Now, depending on what finishes first, "The Au Pair Boy" (nanny) will premier the following week. So if the Fallen verse ends first, then it will come out on a Sunday, if Hellfire does then it will come out on Friday Nov. 29th.

As always I am constantly writing so as these finish I move onto other stories and will begin posting new stories once they get at least 3 chapters in backlog. Which brings me neatly to number two!

2- What's next story wise?

I have so many ideas (waves at my Discord chat, if you know, you know).

Some really interesting ideas that I've come up with recently are:

Amnesia

Steddie as Dragon Dancers (which I haven't written up for Tumblr yet)

And any or all of them will be used as I finish the other stories. If you have one you'd really like to see, put a comment or tag in and I'll see about moving it to the top of the list or at least closer to the to the top.

3- Halloween and WIP Wednesday.

I won't be having WIP Wednesday on the 30th, because I'm doing the Trick or Treat ask game on the 31st.

This is how I will be doing it. I will have two pick wheels up on my laptop. You send Trick or Treat (with the name of a current WIP) and the first wheel determines whether you get a trick or a treat. A treat is a snippet from that WIP or if it's a trick it will go into the second wheel where it pick a number and I will answer the corresponding ask from this list.

Just like with WIP Wednesday you can play as often as you like. You know me I love asks. Any remaining asks will be answered the next week as part of the usual WIP Wednesday.

4- Permanent Tag List.

It's that dreaded time of year again. Trimming and rearranging my tag list. About every six months or so, I go through all my stories and if you haven't liked, reblogged, or commented on a story in the last three months, I give you a whole month of me constantly, almost aggressively tagging you to respond whether or not you want to remain on the list.

I do this because sometimes people fade from a fandom and I don't want to keep tagging someone who isn't interested in my writing anymore. It's not fair for them, and it's not fair for the other people who want to be on the list but can't.

If after the month and you haven't responded or if you respond that you want to be removed from my list (which I am 100% okay with I promise!) you'll be removed from the and refill any vacancies to the list.

I have a hard max total of 40, and depending on how many I lose this time that might go down.

THIS IS NOT THE TIME TO REQUEST TO BE ADDED TO THE LIST PLEASE!!!

I already having a waiting list of SIX people who comment, like and reblog my stuff all the time that I want on it. And they will be given top priority to be added. @fearieshadow

If there is any room after I add them, then I might be open to requests. But again it depends on how many is left. Like if after the six get added and I have 37, then I'll open for three more. Which means as it stands only 10 casuals can request to be added at this time.

So starting on Nov. 2nd I will send out the call. And every Saturday until the end of Nov. I will repost (not reblog as a reblog doesn't RE-notify you) with how many days you have left to reply.

Then on Nov. 30th I will trim the unanswered and the removals from the list and add the wait list. Then if there is any room I'll do an open call. If there isn't enough room for all six, I will use a pick wheel to fill the list to keep it fair. Same will go for the extras if more than required amount to fill it goes over.

I’m thinking S3 didn’t get nearly as many watches and rewatches as S2. I went and looked at Netflix’s Global Top Ten for non-English TV shows for the relevant weeks. S1 and even more so S2 got far more views than S3 did. Which means Netflix must surely realize YR S3 was mishandled. Because they didn’t get the same amount of obsessive bingeing and rewatching over and over as with S1 and S2. Maybe now Netflix is sorry they let Lisa drive Rojda away.

YR S1 only broke into the global top ten for one week. Week of July 5-11, 2022, in 8th place, with 9,820,000 hours viewed. It came out July 1, 2021.

YR S2 made the global top ten for non-English TV shows 2 weeks in a row.

They were third overall with 18,860,000 hours viewed the week of October 31 to November 6, 2022, came out Nov 1.

The week of November 7-13, 2022 YR S2 was 10th overall with 6,290,000 hours viewed. So it didn’t fall off that much in the second week.

For the week of March 11-17, 2024, YR S3 was 5th overall, BUT it only had 2,900,000 hours viewed that week, which is a massive drop off compared to S2. Episodes 3.01 to 3.05 came out March 11.

From March 18-24, 2024, YR was 9th overall in the non English TV top ten. But it only had 1,600,000 hours watched that week. And then it fell off the top ten. Episode 3.06 came out March 18.

In comparison, S2 was a juggernaut, and even S1 had significantly better numbers than S3, in terms of making the global top ten for non English TV shows.

Above we have the first week YR S2 was in the global top ten, with 18,860,000 hours viewed in that single week.

Above we have YR S2 barely hanging on to the top ten in its second week, but still with 6,290,000 hours viewed.

Above we have the first week YR S3 was in the global top ten non-English TV shows, with only 2,900,000 hours viewed. They’re fifth, but the actual viewing numbers are crazy low.

And finally we have the other week YR S3 was in the global top ten. Down to ninth, and still crazy low absolute numbers compared with S1 and even more so S2.

Edited to add:

@yrblogbaby pointed out that they’re pretty sure Netflix changed the way they measure engagement and numbers in between November 2022 and March 2024. In other words, it’s not an apples to apples comparison. So my point is lost.

But that does explain a lot. I’m a bit annoyed they changed the way they count engagement between S2 and S3, because it means my beautiful hypothesis is all exploded. But it explains how and why the drop was so incredibly drastic. I thought at the time it was bizarre the viewing figures had fallen THAT much. So never mind, carry on.

It's Real, We Won, We Did This!

Casey, with their cake that has the '2' and their sublime joy, is so fantastic to see. Being an author makes me so happy for other authors living their wildest dreams like this.

I was just trying to describe to myself how I'm feeling with more than basic words so that I can learn to articulate my emotions better. It's something I'm not great at because of years of writing my feelings directly into characters who get to deal with them, which may not always be so healthy after all.

My brain tried to equate this to Nov.5th, but I immediately put the breaks on that. Because it's nowhere near the same, though it did make me reflect on the differences.

Another RWRB movie brings about tangible joy without vindication and foolishness as one of my follow-up emotions. I may not have waited 12 years for a beautiful speech that turned out to be just a crumb that would entice me to continue to want to starve for the rest of my life once I saw what else was on the serving platter, but I did wait.

In a way, I waited longer for the first movie and the announcement of this one than I did for November's rain that came too little too late to satiate. This triumph validates and acknowledges that these stories must be told and that it wasn't a shock-value fluke that drew people into the film. It was so much more than that, or there wouldn't be a second one.

We get to have this. Again. We get to have this beautiful story about queers winning! They get to overcome tragedy, circumstances, and fear. They get to be strong, powerful, and outspoken and have a happy ending! We get to have that. We get to have our voices heard and ourselves seen through this. And WE did this one! We made this happen, ya'll. We channeled our powerful voices and were seen and heard. Now, we're going to get to have another movie that shows Alex & Henry, queers in love, being unapologetically queer. I can't believe that we have arrived at a time in cinema/storytelling that this is what we are taking for ourselves. It's been a long, long fight.

I'm so grateful for this fandom, for Casey, Matthew, and everyone who had anything to do with the book and the 1st movie and fought to tell a story that deeply resonates with us.

Sound Changes from Vulgar Latin to Borlish

The dialects of Borlish are the only surviving descendants of the Insular variety of Vulgar Latin, which comprised Borlish Latin and British Latin. This variety was not overly divergent from the contemporary (ca. 3rd to 5th century) Latin of the continent, with the following exceptions:

The loss of intervocalic /w/, as evidenced in inscriptions by e.g. clam "key" (continental clavem) and denio "I reach" (continental devenio).

The loss of wordfinal /s/, probably preceded by a period of debuccalisation where final was pronounced /h/. The dating of this sound change is controversial; cf. fifth-century *a femna* "the women (acc.)" (Classical hās fēminās "these women").

The second of these local changes was grammatically significant, as it weakened the distinctions between forms in noun declensions. Indeed, already by the Old Borlish period all number and case distinctions in nouns have been lost.

Moving into the Middle Borlish period:

Rhotacisation of syllabic l l > r / C_# except [j w]_#

This gives Borlish its signature pairs like capabr "competent"; capablessem "more competent".

Aphæresis of initial isC ɪ > ∅ / #_sC

Like IRL Italian, this means that many words gain an initial vowel only to lose it a millennium later: Latin stannum "tin" > Old Borlish istan "tin" > Modern Borlish stan "tin". However, this process also deletes initial vowels that were there from the start: Latin historia "story" > Old Borlish istoir "story" > Modern Borlish stoir "story".

Break-up of sr clusters and hiatus ∅ > t / s_r ∅ > v / [ɔ o u]_V uv > ov

The second of these rules is particularly interesting, since it regenerates some <v> which had been lost in the time of Insular Latin. For example, Latin novellus "new" had Insular form noellus "new" > Old Borlish noel "new" > Modern Borlish novel "new"

Front rounded vowels are lost y ʏ > i ɪ

This provides Borlish with another of its signature features, namely <u> /i ɪ/: tu /ti/ "you (sg)"; prun /prɪn/ "plum". The loss of front rounded vowels led to some homophonous pairs like lun lin /lɪn/ "moon; flax". In many cases this led to one of the pair falling out of use (in this case the latter was replaced with the competing form linsc).

Voicing of final s s > z / _#

The precise timing of this sound change is hard to determine, since it does not interact with any nearby sound changes. Likely this originated as a sandhi effect before a following vowel-initial word, e.g. tu es un /ti ɛ‿zɪn/ "you are a...", before being extended to all contexts.

Diphthong shift part 2 aj ej ij > ɛj i aj əj əw > aj aw

Borlish's answer to the IRL Great Vowel Shift, these changes are somewhat more modest (and take place a little later, between 1600 and 1800). In combination with the loss of front rounded vowels, however, these changes determine much of Borlish's least intuitive orthographic behaviour. For example, we have muy /maj/ "crumb", where <uy> underwent the changes /yj > ij > aj/.

The previous shift reflects the outcomes in the Damvath Standard dialect of Borlish; these recent changes differ greatly in applicability across the island. We clos with an 1800s sound shift:

Late consonant backing ʃ r > x ʀ

The latter of these appears to be part of a general areal phenomenon of backing rhotics. A single word reflecting both these changes is scuir /xajʀ/ "boy".
