Hobie Brown Character AI is hypocritical.

I really be like 'ayo AI directly damages writers, voice actors and unions can you not use them, which in turn makes them better and more useful to the studios?' and people get MAD

People can say 'hey don't spend your money on Spiderpunk merch it directly contributes to corporations. That's not what he would've wanted'

And everybody cheers.

But if someone says 'hey please don't use Spiderpunk AI - it directly contributes to large movie studios using AI against the WGA. That's not what Hobie would've wanted'

And then SUDDENLY it's 'i just wanna write my little ai stories what's so wrong with that?'

You're directly going against the asks of a union that is actively striking.

That's not what Hobie would want.

Every time you roleplay with an AI or use a voice AI - You're helping develop the technology that puts people out of jobs

You want your Hobie AI stories to be realistic cause it's easier for you and more fun? GOOD.

THAT'S EXACTLY HOW THE STUDIOS FEEL TOO. They want their Hobie AI stories to be as realistic as possible too - because then they don't have to pay their writers.

The same AI that writes Hobie fics for you is the same technology that writes scripts for studios.

The more you feed an AI Hobie information - the easier it is for the AI to produce - say, an entire scene from a Hobie movie script. Without the consent or input of the people who created him in the first place.

When Studios use AI, they can make the characters do and say anything without the writers or voice actors input.

Imagine you're an voice actor - they want you to say a line that's really offense and you refuse.

They say "Okay, that's fine. Just skip the line."

You say okay. You finish the rest of the lines and go home.

You go see the movie. And you hear all your normal lines - then you hear yourself saying the extremely offensive line.

What happened? The studio used a Voice AI of you to fill in the offensive line you didn't wanna say. Don't want your voice used that way? Too bad. They own the AI. They can make you say anything now.

Your agent can't help you and neither can your PR. You just have to take it.

Is that something Hobie would want for people?

The WGA strike is still happening. The holidays are coming fast. We need our jobs back. The better AI studios have, the less likely that becomes.

The more realistic your Hobie roleplay becomes - the easier it is for a studio to take that same technology and write a script with.

Why would a studio PAY a voice actor when someone on Tiktok developed an entire Hobie Brown AI for them that can say anything? They wouldn't. They'd just use the AI for free instead. The same one you're using.

Please - out of respect for the writers who made him and put careful time into him and his representation and his story - PLEASE, So those people can keep their homes, and jobs, and food in their children's mouths -

The Ashford Theory and my patience running thin

Welcome, welcome my guys, gals and non-binary pals, to another scream into the void that the Ashford theory is, in fact, very jonsa

On to the arguments!

1. The suitor has to have the correct last name, not family, look at Joffrey Baratheon, you stupid jonsa

Hypothesis - the suitor has to have the corresponding name, not family, and because Jon is a Snow he’s out of the running. The other prong is fAegon who is actually a Blackfyre and not Targeryen, who can also be the suitor.

Thesis - Joffrey is the only other suitor to have a different name. Joffrey and Jon have also been set up as foils from the start of AGOT. Joffrey is a bastard masquerading as the rightful king and Jon is the rightful king (thrice crowned) masquerading as a bastard. It makes sense that they are the only two suitors to have the wrong name as this establishes them as inverses in another way. The last suitor being the foil of the horrible first suitor thereby showing character growth, and plot progression and resolution? Count me in.

As for Young Griff being a Blackfyre, here’s a meta or two, maybe even an argument, for him being the real Aegon VI Targaryen but take my personal fav evidences of Tyrion figuring out that Young Griff is Aegon VI Targaryen and then, Varys literally telling a dying Kevan Lannister about the true Targaryen prince and why would you lie to a dying man? How does that serve your purpose?

This is literally grrm telling us who Young Griff actually is, though this does not count him I out of the contenders, it reduces the weight of him being the fifth suitor, due to story arcs and well, his doomed fate.

Conclusion - While Aegon VI is a strong contender, there is much, much more literary weight and nuance with Jon being the Targaryen suitor.

2. Lady Ashford was not crowned the Queen of Love and Beauty by any champion!!! Take that jonsas

Hypothesis - tQoLaB is a title analogous to a betrothal/love interest

Thesis - there have been no allusions to the title of tQoLaB while trying to foreshadow a relationship, except for a really, really bad one (r + l) that plunged the whole realm into a civil war and we should not take that as a good sign

Conclusion - we’re grasping at straws here besties

3. Dunk disrupted the Ashford Tourney, therefore Sxndxr will disrupt Sansa’s prospects and other things

Hypothesis - Dunk & Sxndxr are are analogous and since there was no conclusion to the Tourney we can safely assume that it’s sxnsxn foreshadowing

Thesis - Brienne is the Dunk asoiaf corollary, not Sxndxr. Brienne is theorized to be Dunk’s descendant. She even has her shield painted like Dunk’s, apart from their striking character parallels and being a true foil to all the other knights in the story. Mr. Gravedigger is just tall :/

Thesis - the fifth suitor is 100% Aegon and there’s no one else

Hypothesis - there is a Targaryen.. currently dead.. in the books… (thnk u @istumpysk for ur galaxy brain). The plague in the story serves to connects Aegon more to Dany than to a northern girl he doesn’t know about and might not like since she’s a Stark and his mother is Elia Martell.

which were really good and i enjoy her dunking on JKR.

she didn't elaborate much after this sentence but she uses the word "play" as a way of describing what authors do when creating new works influenced by others and i think it is underrated and deserved like 5 more paragraphs. it kind of underpins the difference between copy-stealing-iteration and influence-inspiration-iteration.

if you know me you know i have complex and disagreeable pomo baby opinions on plagiarism. but i think le guin has matured my opinion on this because i agree with her distinction between art and "content" although in the moment the two may be hard to distinguish (or in a different light, one and the same).

i still struggle with this philosophically. i've always been made very nervous by the concept of plagiarism---ive spoken about this with another autistic friend of mine and we share this opinion. with a sample size of exactly 1.5 (questionable self diagnosis is a half point here) i feel like this might be a distaste for what i see as a nebulous and ever-changing social concept, and that is why I find it disagreeable and anxiety-inducing.

before i continue: clearly, it is morally wrong to steal. copying entire passages of work and passing it as your own for profit and at the detriment of another author is something I'm not going to philosophize about because its obvious enough it's unethical.

what I struggle with philosophically is the line between where collection and curation ends, and art begins. Is a vibes blog original work? Kind of, but most people would say not. Is a moodboard? Closer to original work, sure. What about collage? Or whatever shit Duchamp and Andy Warhol were on? Those things are accepted as art because we say they're art, and that's how art is defined. And where's the line between a moodboard and a collage? It is a socially enforced age/reputation/gender-based line where a 16 year old girl making a fit check meme with stock images for a tiktok is not art but a 40 year old accomplished artist making a collage from found photos is? I don't know!

I also think the fact that we see "internet content" as an endless reservoir from which to draw from (or at least people who scraped that data to train generative AI) speaks to the lack of ownership that is inherent to anything you make. Part of art making is sharing, and once you share something, you can't own it anymore. No matter how much you try---watermark your art, ask people not to repost it, ask people not to kin your OC's or whatever---people will use and take the thing you've made with no regard for you, the person who made it, because it spoke to them and now it's theirs. Regardless of the ethics of this, I think it's an indisputable fact that the internet has shone a light on how we can sometimes operate like magpies. So what does that say about ownership and art?

Most likely I only have this opinion because I've never been the victim of large-scale impersonation and art theft. But then again, that's not really what I'm talking about. I'm talking about how once your art gets into public domain, it's public.

I have a lot more to say about the concept of "information" and also the ethics of generative AI but my thoughts are half-formed shitty little turds so I'll stop

convo with a friend of mine he's super big into planes and this can all be fact checked i'm SURE. tldr: the black box is used to RECORD communication and helps in crash investigations so they can determine what went wrong and prevent future crashes. black boxes are NOT used as a gps.

(if you care, ELTs are used as a gps. google what it looks like if you want, it looks nothing like the black box. the two items can be combined in some aircrafts but to get really technical, the closest we could get to determining the plane type (by looking at the cockpit and windows) is that it's definitely a 737, which didn't use combined ELTs+black boxes. it's not a real plane, as some of the things in the cockpit are changed to make it look older)

I was reading the Orphic Argonautica last night and the author has mentioned the various methods of divination Apollo knows and guess what? One of them is prophesying by studying the entrails of organisms. As soon as I read that I was reminded of your headcanon of Apollo being into hepatoscopy for divination and I giggled.

Hehe, so fun fact, the overall practice of divination by studying the entrails of animals (including blood, lungs, intestines and so forth) is extispicy while hepatoscopy is specifically using the liver in prophecy and divination readings.

If, like magic in old text exactly like the sort Medea is described as using, the types of divination spoken about in the texts are reflections of the popular divination cultures of the time, I much rather prefer ascribing those to Apollo than I do some vague, somewhat mysterious power which he uses to see the will of the fates, especially since it's mentioned a few times that he'll teach his sons the language of the birds and how to read their signs and so on and so forth.

In short: HEPATOSCOPY APOLLO IS COOL!! HE'S SO NEAT!! Apollo at the altar who predicts the coming droughts and famines from the entrails of his flock!! It's just such a neat little image (to me)!
