⤷ LOTS of endearing pet names, I swear he’ll call you every single pet name there is to exist. His main pet names for you are baby, sweetheart, mon amour, mon ange, mon coeur, my dear, darling, honey -  this list could on for forever honestly - 

⤷ I also feel like he might come up with nicknames on the spot for you depending on the situation - like I could totally see you helping him in the kitchen chopping cabbage (for this specific example) and him gushing calling you chou (cabbage in french if I’m correct). 

⤷ I’ve seen some headcanons calling Sanji disloyal or saying he would cheat on his partner, and let me say this loud and clear, my chivalrous prince charming black leg Sanji? HE. WOULD. NEVER. (it blows my mind people actually believe this) 

⤷ While in a relationship with you Sanji would still be a gentleman to Nami and Robin as to be expected, but he would definitely tone the flirting down now that he has you, his love and joy. 

⤷ He doesn’t want to mess up what you have after the mistreatment he went through during his childhood, you make him feel like he’s on cloud 9 and all of his worries melt when he is with you, losing you is honestly a great fear of his. 

⤷ Trust me when I tell you that you’ll. be. spoiled. rotten. If Sanji is willing to spend millions of berries to buy the Thousand-Year paper for Nami in the Post-Alabasta Arc, just imagine what lengths he would go for you. This man will seriously go into debt just to see your stunning smile and a kiss to his cheek as a thank you. 

⤷ He would smother you in so many fancy gifts. If he was dead broke at the moment, that wouldn’t stop Sanji from still spoiling you - heartfelt letters which he claims his love for you (seriously he puts his soul into them) flowers hand-picked, he would even attempt a handmade gift like a painting or a scrapbook - all for you. 

⤷ His love language(s) are acts of service and quality time. This man would be learning and cooking your favorite meals all the time even if you didn’t request them, Sanji would then get pissed that Luffy had eaten it all before you got to have some (this happens A LOT btw.)

 ⤷ Sanji would also love to do little things for you to make your day easier, he’ll make you breakfast in bed, do your chores for you, carry the stuff you bought on a new island, anything for his darling love.

⤷ For quality time, it could be you just hanging in the kitchen with him while he’s cooking chatting his ear off, having romantic dates, or just simply staring into each other's eyes in silence after a particularly long day - Sanji doesn’t care - as long as he basks in your presence, his day is so much better.

⤷ Dates with Sanji would meticulously be planned out with great love. I honestly feel like he would prefer to cook you homemade meals rather than go out to a restaurant. (ironic i know) Sanji pours his heart and soul into his cooking and he likes to know that your dishes are made with great care. Picnics with him would be the absolute best. I just know it. 

⤷ I also see him planning very intimate dates with you, like going dancing, a candlelit homemade dinner, cuddling in the crows nest on the ship stargazing. 

⤷ Even though he plans his dates with care and wants them to go perfectly, he loves it when you drag him off the ship to see something interesting on the island and it turns into a spontaneous date, it allows him to relax a bit and of course do his favorite thing, spend time with you ;)

Guess what I watched?!

This was sooooooooo amazing! A beautiful story and a wonderful cinematic experience honestly! Not to sound like a movie reviewer 😅 I just want to gush.

I was totally not interested the first few times the trailer popped up on my ad feed on youtube but the first time I sat down to actually look at the trailer I was hit with the colors and the designs and suddenly I was six-years-old sitting with my dad while he showed me and my four-year-old brother our first piece of transformers media. It was an old cartoon with the bots on cybertron and I never really got something like that again with the other movies or shows that came out aside from the ones one find after digging.

So I instantly decided that even just for nostalgia's sake I would go see it and I was dragging my siblings with me. Even if the movie was a horrible cash grab that turned the characters into unrecognizable slapstick jokesters I would watch it because I wanted to be six-years-old again.

But!!!

LO AND BEHOLD this was incredible! Right from the start when they showed and talked about Primus being the planet I felt hope rising in my chest (MY EXPECTATIONS WERE ON THE FLOOR OKAY) And it just KEPT GETTING BETTER!

Ik from the trailers it seems so silly and stupid but it's NOT! This movie (imo) knows exactly when to be funny and when to be serious. It is for kids - don't expect anything super grown-up - but don't expect something that's aimed for a three-year-old.

Orion Pax (Optimus) and D-16 (Megatron) were the beating heart of this film in my opinion. I was gut wretched watching their friendship deteriorate and seeing Megatron slowly be born. I told my brother as we sat in that theater (which was 98% empty btw😭) that I really thought that the creative team really seemed to love Megatron because there was so much care put into his character and his change wasn't mocked or incomprehensible - I understood him the whole time even as I hated watching the downfall.

And ORION! He was amazing! I loved watching him go from a cocky selfish little guy to this inspiring leader. Even before the main conflict pushes him into the forefront as a leader you can see these hints of that quick-thinking and desire to protect those around him. The aspects of a leader are there - they just needed the right circumstances to pull them out.

There were so many of my babies in it too! It was nice to hear Bumblebee talk!!!! And he was precious! Elita was nice even tho I will admit that I'm not super deep into Transformers so I wasn't truly familiar with her. But I just about jumped out of my seat seeing Starscream, Soundwave, and Shockwave on screen talking and just being soooooo cool! They could just stand there and I would have been in heaven (not really that would have been a disservice to them but besides the point!)

ARCEE WAS THERE!!! I WAS SO HAPPY!!! Me and my brothers were scouring for Ironhide and Rachet and we were grinning like idiots when we saw Jazz oh my gosh! I'm pretty sure that we saw Cliffjumper too!

And Ariachnid was sooooooo scary my gosh I was so happy!

This just felt like a film that truly cared and loved and RESPECTED the source material!

Anyways I'm writing this because I think people need to watch it. It's good even if you don't know a thing about transformers too! My little sister came with and loved the movie even though she's probably seen 1/4 of a transformers movie. I know I'm no bigshot poster so it's not gonna reach a lot of people but if any little bit counts then ...

I’ve been wanting to talk about the WebToon “My In-Laws are Obsessed with Me” and why it’s one of my absolute favorite stories just about ever, but haven’t had enough mental presence to go into it all.

(Warning: Romance comic, but amazing slow burn marriage of convenience between two traumatized individuals that is done exceptionally well, and even though you want both sides to spit stuff out you completely empathize with why they’re being respectful and/or still not in a position to recognize they’re falling in love)

But the most recent free episode!!!

It’s just a small thing, and I can’t even discuss it beyond broad strokes because it involves just about every single spoiler for the metaplot.

But! But!!!!

One thing I love the most about this series is that everyone in it is intelligent.

And not the “good at math smarty smart” kind.

This is not a series where the main character has to do everything because people are chained to their idiot balls.

I’ll say there is a curse involved, and the MC initially is like “Ok, time to do some research on this mystery!”

And then is introduced to the members of the afflicted family who have dedicated their lives to that single thing, becoming doctors in order to treat and research the curse, and the MC is just “Oh, right, they’d have already tried.”

There’s been a theory in the back of my head, never actually mentioned aloud in the series but pretty obvious (in the best way!) given the mechanics of the curse and a recent evolution of it.

In this episode, the female MC hesitantly goes up to her “marriage of convenience” husband and merely suggests this particular theory as he is the one in a position to ask questions…

Well, “suggests,” she brings up the relevant antagonist…

And he calmly goes over all the research he has already done into the matter, evidence for and against, pointing out the things she’s previously brought up that lead him to suspect things and it’s just…

They’re so smart!! They’re so proactive!!!!

The only thing that’s kept me from gushing earlier is a recent revelation that a major character has suffered sexual trauma in the past.

So please, if respectful depictions of “someone was drugged and put into a traumatizing situation in order to try and force them into marriage” is something you can’t deal with, please know this WebToon is respectful about it but it is a huge part of a character’s backstory and, sadly, the current plot.

If you can handle that, though???

This WebToon is a must read.

Even if you’re not into slow burn romances, even if you think all cishet romances are boring and pointless (which is wrong, btw, from my pan perspective).

The episodic formula sadly seemed to push the earliest episodes into a very rushed pace in order to lay enough plot points to get readers interested.

But once the marriage of convenience happens, this is a masterclass in writing.

On how to make empathetic, relatable characters who make decisions that make sense.

Bad decisions because of believable circumstances, good decisions based upon their own strengths.

In how to integrate clues to a metaplot through the narrative, and also have the characters react naturally to them.

The visual storytelling is also just so so good, you can tell so much about what the characters outside the mc are thinking!

If you haven’t yet and WebToon stuff is your thing, read this series!!!

Lol so I wanted to research to make a proper argument & now I'm actually convinced pitbulls should be banned so hear me out because I <3 dogs & if I'm missing something I want to know. From what I just read, pitbulls were bred by humans to be fighting dogs so they have genetic instincts that make them attack very aggressively & be unfazed by their own pain (they literally won't stop attacking even after being tazed & in some cases shot like wtf😭) - in comparison Rottweilers were bred to protect & are super intelligent so they can be trained very well & won't randomly attack despite their potential to be aggressive. It doesn't look like pitbulls can actually be trained cuz they're the only breed that consistently mauls their own owners (even the ones who by all accounts were great owners) & they don't bark/act aggressive to give any kind of warning sign before they attack - dog breeds that attack out of fear or to defend themselves give warning signs to scare off the perceived threat. pitbulls account for 66% of fatal dog attacks which is wildddd (Rottweilers come in 2nd @ 10% which is such a LARGEE margin that it can't be a coincidence) & no other breed constantly shows good behavior before randomly snapping then literally shredding a kid's faces off. Idk what do you think about this? (<3 u btw)

My main concern with the idea of banning pitbulls is just…. What would that even entail? Are they just all supposed to be euthanized? The US is already full of pitbulls, often mistreated or left in cages almost their entire lives before being killed in shelters. I would just greatly prefer to see a future where we have a better solution than to kill all of these animals, especially when many are raised well by owners who understand the risks and do the best they can and they never do attack, or if they do their owner’s are prepared to handle it. Pitbulls have always been very popular pets in all the areas I’ve lived so I’ve seen them be aggressive but I’ve also seen a ton of them be gentle and sweet and live full happy lives without hurting anyone. The idea of eradicating them has never sat right with me.

There must be something else we can do to protect people without outlawing an entire breed of dogs. I’ve also seen beagles attack unprompted, including a beloved family pet who had to be put down after she mauled my cousin’s face when she was a toddler and a neighbor’s pet who jumped up onto a trampoline with us and mauled my mom leaving her gushing blood and covered in bruises. Should beagles be outlawed? This is all coming from someone who had a traumatic experience when I was 15 where my best friend’s pitbull mix locked his jaw around my hand and tore it almost in half, but we weren’t careful. We were drunk and messing with him and there were warning signs he showed for a couple minutes beforehand like growling and acting scared but my friend was being goofy and dumb and kept mimicking his growl and playing with him which is what caused him to attack me. And the craziest thing is that he showed remorse for over a year. Every time I saw him after he kept his distance and bowed his head to me and even cried and I’m not friends with that girl anymore for other reasons but I have friends who are and as far as I know she still has him and he never attacked anyone again…. They are such intelligent beautiful creatures and I don’t think they’re unsaveable. I think people need to know the risks of having one and be prepared.

sonic adventure got me in its grasp!!!

okay, so originally i was going to write a review for the quest 3, because i just got one and its cool but honestly? writing a review for hardware is BORING!!!! so instead im going to "review" (gush about) sonic/sonic adventure 2 for the next little bit

i fucking LOVE this game. dont get me wrong i like the 2d games (especially s3&k and cd), but there is something genuinely special about sa2 - it is literally oozing with style from the movement to the animations to the music it is literally all peak

dont even get me started on this games soundtrack, it is literally all good. especially the themes of radical highway, city escape, all of knuckles stages, and of course the main theme of the game, live and learn.

the music in this game fits so perfectly with literally everything that happens!!!

by far though, the best part of this game (other than the actual stages) is shadow. he is literally one of the best sonic characters and his FUCKING DESIGN. IS SO COOL. JUST LOOK AT IT!!!!!

he is just so cool.... i love his design and how it parallels both sonic and knuckles, considering he is narratively what knuckles was supposed to be, and is literally an evil fucked up version of sonic. everything about him is just great. speaking of shadow, he and sonic have some really amazing stages in this game, and i love how their stages parallel each others. (sonadow forever btw)

another character made for this game is rouge, i have less to say about her, but i like her alot and think her dynamic with knuckles is alot of fun!! they are very pitch coded and that is really cute.

i also like all the hidden big the cats in the stages, they are fun to find and go "haha look! its my favorite fisherman cat!" anyways... i started writing this at the start of the month and didnt finish it until now, so let me talk about the end of the game! this game ends with three amazing stages, one that is kind of a victory lap of every gameplay style, playing as every major character (other than shadow) fighting through the ARK as it is about to explode? fall down to earth? maybe both. after that stage, sonic and knuckles work with the master emerald to neutralize the power of the chaos emeralds, which are powering the ARK, and made the biolizard show up. shadow is fighting the biolizard while sonic and knuckles work together, eventually beating it, and sonic and knuckles succeeding! before they can kill the biolizard though, it uses chaos control (did i mention it is a prototype of the ultimate lifeform? thats what shadow is!) to fuse itself with the ARK, forcing it down to earth.

sonic and shadow then use the power of the chaos emeralds to go super, then fighting the biolizard in space, eventually beating it, and using chaos control to put the ARK back into space! this overuses shadows power though, with him falling down to earth, presumably dead.

i want to mention here that the biolizards theme is great, go listen to it!

anyways, after sonic shows back up at the ARK, he and the rest of the game reflect on shadow, and the events of the game. the game ends with sonic saying goodbye to shadow, as the credits start to roll. i fucking love this game man

pop! minari's version

For the past week, Mina had been listening to Pop! Her unnies had showed her mama's music video and the second Mina saw her mama, she was absorbed in the music video. That day it was all she wanted to watch, and she absolutely refused to change it to something else despite taking over the living room TV.

Day after day after day, Mina would hum the song, sing along to it, and watch the music video. She even had her favorite penguin stuffed animal dancing along to it and Chaeyoung was nice enough to make a cute little Pop! outfit for the stuffy.

Towards the end of the week, Mina's hyper fixation on the song somehow grew. Now she wanted to learn the dance. For the past hour and a half, she had been in the living room of the dorm playing and rewinding the main dance. She had seen every version of her mama's song whenever she was promoting it and she wanted nothing more than to be able to dance along to it.

By the time promotions ended, Nayeon was exhausted and dancing to Pop! in her sleep. She hadn't seen her baby for almost two weeks (other than when she visited once during the music video shoot) and all she wanted to do was cuddle up with her Minari and sleep for days.

What Nayeon wasn't expecting when she got back to the dorms was her baby, frustrated and watching the music video. Nayeon stood in the doorway of the dorm and silently watched as Mina played the main part of the dance over and over again, occasionally talking to her penguin stuffy for encouragement.

Nayeon watched Mina for a few more minutes before she made her presence known. She let out a small cough and the little turned around, her eyes wide as she ran into her mama's arms.

"Missed you!" Mina said, her words muffled due to her face being buried in her mama's neck.

"I missed you too, sweet pea. Have you been good for your unnies?"

Mina nodded and took a deep breath, inhaling the familiar scent of Nayeon's lilac perfume. Mina stayed in her mama's arms a little while longer before she pulled away, a big smile on her face.

"Were you practicing mama's song?"

Mina blushed and nodded shyly, looking over at the paused music video. "Minari wan'ed to be wike mama."

This melted Nayeon's heart and even though she said she didn't want to have to dance to the song for at least a month, she couldn't resist. If her Minari wanted to learn Pop! then she was going to teach her.

Since Pop! wasn't made for little penguins to dance to perfectly, Nayeon had to remind herself that the little wasn't going to get every step perfectly. As Nayeon took Mina through every step over and over again, she made sure to adjust a bit for her baby's brain.

Mina definitely wasn't the queen of the Pop! dance, but that's okay. Her moves were a little clunky and some parts she completely made up, but after a half hour of learning from her mama, she got most of the dance down.

Mina sat her mama down on the couch when she had finished her mini lesson and rewinded the music video again. She excitedly pressed the play button on the remote and moved her head to the beat before starting to dance.

The second Mina started dancing, Nayeon's heart swelled. Her baby looked adorable, and she was definitely putting her all into the dance. Nayeon mirrored Mina's moves, chuckling a little when Mina added her own moves for some of the harder parts.

Although it wasn't what she had expected when she finally saw her Mina again, she was more than okay with it. Nayeon took picture after picture and a short video to watch and gush over later.

By the end of her little performance, Nayeon was sure that she preferred Mina's version of Pop! much more than her own.

AAAAGH HI HELLO BOUNCING AROUND YOU LIKE A PUPPY!!!! i only know three other people who like ai !! date fans are almost always the coolest and funniest people you've ever met and know what they want in a man (wet and pathetic forever) and i respect the date fans. I'm not tooting my own horn btw I'm saying this for the people that will be reading this ask lol date fans are so silly. this is date btw for anyone who doesn't know what the fuck im rambling about

gushing about the game is basically impossible without spoiling everything because the mystery is REALLY SILLY but also really well written and laid out over time. the characters in the game are very lovable and I guess pretty realistically written, not from a realism standpoint but in how they react to any given thing in the storyline. they're varied and fun and have a lot of personality to each of them, and I would literally fucking kill for any of the main cast given the chance.

and the sequel!! the sequel is a little weak and a bit slippery and not as well put together in comparison to the first one, but it's still just as charming and you don't necessarily have to play the first game to understand what's going on - there are vague references to the lore in the first game, but it doesn't detract from the fact that this IS a new cast of characters, and i really appreciate the fact!! there's a lot going for it in terms of charm and personality, and the new characters seem to be a bit less whimsical and more grounded than in the first game (fucking looking at you tokiko shigure. holy shit)

i feel like I never do anything justice gushing about it because I will always forget something and then be like "fuck I forgor" and rush to add details so I'm just gonna leave my gushing about it at that lol

ANYWAYS!! UM. talking about my self insert under the cut :3

so. juniper is my self insert, they're from america and they moved to japan for reasons I haven't decided upon yet but they get a job at a local flower shop run by a very brash old lady whose family never come visit her and it turns out it's because she's in the middle of a yakuza turf war. the kumakura family bought out the basement space of her shop and had her under their thumb. juniper was just stupid enough to get involved in hopes to help the woman who keeps them fed, but there's no way to do that. juniper unfortunately has no choice but to cross paths with these men, but one in particular is more kind than the others, and has bought flowers from them on occasion - a specific type of iris :3c

the old woman dies shortly before the events of the first game and they've taken charge of the flower shop, and they've been meeting date upon happenstance every so often. because of the eventual discovery of the kumakura gang being affiliated with several suspects in the cyclops killings, juniper has become entangled in the case, and date actually has his reasons to suspect that jun has something to do with the case, which leads him to having to psynch with them at some point!! but they have a few other ties to the lore that could be considered heavy spoilers :)

juniper is besties with pewter!! he is their only friend for very specific reasons, and they spend time out drinking when he isn't on the job. they talk very vaguely about their crush on date and it takes pewter a whole long while to figure out that they're both talking about the other when he has to be subjected to it. he initially thinks "wow this is just like my doujins" when jun is first talking about meeting a very beautiful man at the flower shop who keeps coming around and they meet at strange times, and then it devolves into pewter going from that and happy for them to "oh you're fucking joking, THAT GUY??" when he learns it's been date the whole time

anyways. coughs. juniper has a big dumb crush on date but they go against most of his Types; i mean on top of not being a Busty Older Woman, they are a tiny nonbinary thembo and they're a bit of a punk; they've had some of their mentor's brash personality rub off on them, but they generally are fairly kind to people that come around, they just have to keep up that hard exterior to be seen as a big enough threat to the kumakura gang (moma has a bit of a crush on them but that would never come to fruition in the same way that the iris thing never did - mostly because jun is too stupid to notice that he likes them)

date likes them because of their pretty face and kind heart hidden behind their hard exterior - they're very tired of having to hold up a strong personality all the time for their safety, and simply want to make people happy with their flowers. they're sweet and a little clumsy and are kind of similar to iris and hitomi in several ways, but they're a little more um. rough around the edges and awkward i guess? not to mention their japanese still isn't completely perfect despite having lived in japan for as long as they have (over 6 years). so he finds it all endearing in a weird way but it does take a bit before he has the "ogh fuck" moment, because he's a bit superficial underneath it all

jun is suuuuper supportive of iris and is also a big fan of a-set !! they want to meet her in person at some point - and they do!! mizuki is like their adoptive daughter and eventually they do take on a parental role for her, specifically in the 6 years that date goes missing between games. ota is okay, jun and ota do not get along very well and most of that has to do with them competing for otaku of the group

You know I've always had a strange love for the gen 8 Pokémon games (sword and shield).

Now I shall go on a rant about all the things I love about it under the cut:

Is it a perfect game? No. Admittedly the main story about Rosé and the darkest day was 100% a miss. They wanted to say the big corporate leader was actually a bad guy but didn't want to commit to actually making him a bad guy. And yea it's a really easy game but honestly I don't mind too much because I'm a lil weenie.

Still, it makes me kinda sad whenever I hear people bash it on twitter (though maybe reading twitter comments was my first mistake)

Like come on guys SwSh gave us some great designs including but not limited to:

Wooloo, corviknight, polteageist, applin, FALINKS, regieleki, etc.

And the game itself also looks amazing. I never understood why people like to tear into its graphics. Maybe I just really vibe with the art style and how colorful and vibrant everything is (esp compared to ScarVi's graphics tbh, though I do acknowledge how ScarVi had a much larger mountain to climb in that department since it's open world).

But after thinking and thinking about it, another big contributor to my love for gen 8 is probably the fact that you can cook curry in it. I fucking love curry.

(can I put another read more here? I'm just gonna gush about how much I love japanese curry and how much I love the variety of curry SwSh has)

Ok as I've mentioned before, I LOVE japanese curry. It's easy to make with the curry cubes, you can pretty much add anything you want into it, and the spice levels range from "why is it sweet" to "not spicy" to "my mouth is fucking melting" it's up to you. You can do anything as long as you're ready to deal with the consequences of your hubris.

And I feel like gen 8 really captures that. I mean have you seen all the toppings available for curry making?

I want to try ALL OF THEM even the weird ones like bloody tropical curry or whipped cream curry. And by try I mean cook. (Except maybe the wasabi one because my spice tolerance isn't that high...)

So far I've made mushroom curry, potato curry, toast curry (I put curry on toast), and salad curry. I've also made katsu curry before, does that count as 'fried food curry'? I mean it's fried but it's not exactly fish and chips.

Anyway, I think this has gone on long enough. Bottom line, I love curry and the fact that it's one of the main mini games and features of Pokémon SwSh makes me love the game more than I probably would if it was any other kind of cooking.

yeah ok i guess i see where you’re coming from, but intent is a big part of what separates the two. again, i’m not here to attack wimsie by saying this, there’s nothing else that needs to be said about them since we dealt with that problem. what I’m saying is that you made a bad move reposting art without permission, and that comparing art somebody created to be suggestive to that of someone who does not want their art perceived that way, and continuing to sexualize their work when they’re clearly not comfortable with it is a really shitty thing to do. Hany asks that nsfw blogs don’t interact, so I don’t really know how you came to the conclusion that he draws it, but i do know that he’s uncomfortable with the way you’ve been talking about him and his stuff, and i really think it’s in your best interest to just take the post down.

You guys assume a lot of intent tho. Like assuming the intent of that art is incest. And assuming the intent of the hypno art is noncon. That may be your interpretation, but that may not be the author's intent. I've been on the receiving end of this too and I get once you put something out there people will interpret art how they will. But sometimes people take art in bad faith, particularly when they already don't like someone.

Right now, I'm assuming the intent of that art is sexual in nature because two people are laying on top of each other in bed. I'm dubious that he doesn't know it will be seen that way. Maybe you're right. But what I'm saying is those images look very similar in the suggestive meter. Things he does make me uncomfortable too so the feeling is mutual. I'm very certain he likes nsfw art. He was gushing over the ahegao post before he remembered where he was and deleted it lol. He's friends with nsfw artists. And I'm fairly sure he draws it too but you know what, I have no real proof so I'll give you that one. I'm not saying he's bad for any of that aside from being a hypocrite btw. Art about sex is not worse than art about anything else.

Listen, I know those posts are in bad taste. It's possible I will take them down. But I know none of those posts about Wimsie are coming down. Not one of you have ever been decent to me or them as we have been to you. Just a little personal rundown I shared with a moot a while back, if you're looking to get into the Yakuza franchise but don't know where to start bc it's a bit overwhelming in terms of chronology and remasters/spin offs

Disclaimer so many gamers so many opinions etc etc but here's my personal take:

Tldr; start with Yakuza 0 or Judge Eyes/Judgment 1 Japanese dub

Also if you go in expecting a progressive romp don't be surprised if a game series about the literal patriarchy hits you with the literal patriarchy

The series peaked with Y0, it doesn't get better from there so that's the best entry point in my book you need to experience that ending and realize Majima is nothing like what fandom makes him out to be

I could gush on about the tight combat and cool retro vibes but this is peak Yakuza and if you want to experience the series at its best start here

Kiwami 1 and 2 are mostly why mainstream fandom is The Way It Is, I don't recommend starting with those, they're at the bottom of my personal list even tho they feature neat characters (also K2 Majima Saga will emphasize the discrepancy between early games comedic foil Majima and later games Majima)

Y1/2 would make for the more authentic experience I guess, I think the PS2 era retro vibes are extra 👌✨

Y3 is a bad entry point because it's the jankiest and oldest of the bunch and it revolves heavily around Kiryu in the close proximity of children which is a total crime but it does have the absolute Character of All Time so there's that

Y4 is the dryest but I say that affectionately and while the plot gets flak for demanding some serious suspension of disbelief it has amazing character moments and personal faves. Overall a weird in the middle kinda affair technically and in terms of presentation, also quite janky still, but has amazing character moments

Y5 is in my top 3 it's just too much fun but it's quite a bite due to its scale and can be an overwhelming first. Would pay money for a skip Saejima's chapter mod.

You think you don't like J-pop shenanigans you have not played Haruka's chapters. Also Shinada ❤️

Y6 is the last (allegedly, at the time) in the lead character's saga (who is not a Nice Man btw, don't let fandom fool you) so that's a bad entry point too because none of the references will make sense or have full impact, plus it just lacks the series' previous thunder

It just felt superfluous to me, idk I just went through it feeling totally apathetic but that was mostly because the faves had less than 5 minutes of cumulative screentime and the antagonist were not that interesting and the rest is just Kiryu being irresponsible and boneheaded. Someya coulda been So Neat but ended up a being a total nothingburger. Technically a solid game tho.

Y7 I just can't get through I keep rage quitting I can't think of a single nice thing to say about it at this point but your mileage may vary if you like turn based RPGs and if the main characters and story click for you. I just don't vibe with this title and cast and tone at all 🤷‍♀️

Yakuza Ishin is great, beautiful combat, and Hanpeita the main attraction I'm so sad they'll replace the actor and fiddle with the combat system for the upcoming re release. Also not the AU you'd expect it to be, just a stand alone story with recognizable faces & voices. I really thought they'd put more relevance towards the character's AU counterparts but there's not 🤷‍♀️

killer OST tho, great fun all together

Judgment 1/Judge Eyes is great fun and you get some of the best instances of Kamurocho. It also paints the most realistic version of the underworld right up until when the plot takes a deep dive into silly territory. Some pacing issues too. I had high hopes for this spin off series coming out of J1 but then J2/Lost Judgment happened and it's just atrocious with some neat moments and characters scattered throughout. Still I think you'd get more out of J1 if you were familiar with the mainline series first 🤔

J2 I can't recommend, the combat is great fun but they reduced Yagami to ridiculous levels of all round video game swanky man and the story/pacing is horrid and ppl call it grounded and gritty but in terms of tone and chummy vibes I consider it the josh whedonification of yakuza ~~and I'm not even taking about the completely mismatched English dubs~~

so yeah just my personal recs based on my Yakuza journey! With a series this broad and long running different entries will cater to different tastes but honestly you can't go wrong with Y0 and J1

Albedo

For some reason, I can see him knowing how to handle a child, since he takes care of Klee as well- so when it comes to taking care of you, he’s practically a natural at it.

At first, he’ll be a bit turned off by you since he sees you as a bit of a nuisance. But over time, you’ll grow on him. He’ll come to love you as his own-

As an artist man himself, He teaches you how to draw. From plant, to animal, to people. He teaches you the techniques he used for drawing. You bet that he loves every drawing you gave to him, even if its a stickman, this man’ll treasure and cherish it with his life-

This man loves spoiling you with things, it got to the point where you didn’t know how to use all of the things he’s given to you. Sometimes, Jean and Sucrose has come in and told him to stop spoiling you too much-

Albedo’s a scientist right? Head scientist, alchemist, whatever. So you bet your ass that he’ll be teaching you some alchemy at such a young age- bro,, u can be the next einstein with how complicated things he’s teaching you-

Whenever he has free time, he loves spending it with you. He would share his findings with you, even though you can’t understand what he’s saying, he would still tell you. Sometimes, he would put on a show for you while telling stories using his vision and alchemy- he would always smile at your awestruck face as he tells the tale.

Playdates with Klee is a must- he would sometimes leave you under the Knights of Favonius’ care and you’ll be found playing with Klee. At first, he’s worried since he knew what Klee’s like. But if Jean decided its okay, then its okay.

If ever you were attack or gone missing, Albedo would be furious and immediately go to you or search for you. The ones who stole you away or attack you no longer exist btw 👀

Overall, even though you suddenly came to his life and became his unexpected child, he would love you as his own.

La Signora

La Signora is a fucking natural at taking care of a child, change my mind 🤧🙃. Like if a child is crying and can’t be tame, just drag her over and that child would stop crying- maybe its bc she has a motherly aura around her (besides the fact that she almost kills Venti- 😃)

I think she willingly adopts you, not bc she’s obligated. She would guess that it’s because of her motherly instinct inside her when she finds you following her- she takes you in without any hesitation-

“But.. La Signora-“

“Even if you beg in front of me, my answer will not change. I will take this child as my own and none of you can stop me-“

La Signora would take you everywhere with her, but if its a mission that requires some.. blood, that’s the time where she wouldn’t bring you. She would drop you in the Northland Bank for a while before coming back to pick you up. She would let you explore the area since she knows that children likes to venture around new areas-

As much as La Signora is ruthless to the people around her, she would undoubtedly be soft towards you. Like she’ll be like medusa one second then the next she’ll be gushing at you-

She is the kind of woman that shields you from the world, who would protect your innocence than destroy it. So, in order to protect it, she wouldn’t tell you about her profession. All she would say is, “Mother is doing some secret business work.”

La Signora would spoil you rotten, whether from gifts or affections. If you want something, it would be given to you. She’s really rich, ya know? 👀 she loves carrying you, especially during times where she can cover your eyes- 👀

Even though she spoils you, doesn’t mean she wouldn’t be hard on you. If you do something she doesn’t like, she would punish you. She would also train you with your desired weapon, stating that it would help to protect yourself when she can’t-

I feel like she would let you meet her fellow Fatui Harbingers, but its not like their close with one another- 👀 but Childe is one Harbinger that you often play with. Even though he hates La Signora, he wouldn’t deny that he enjoy playing with you- so you can be found either with La Signora or with Childe-

If you ever get attack or was taken away, you can bet that La Signora is livid- furious- and she’ll hunt down whoever attacked you or decided to kidnap you. And she would NOT show mercy.

Overall, she would treat you as her own and would give you the world if she could- she would protect you from the darkness of the world. Whatever it takes..

Scaramouche

Ha! Scaramouche with a child? Everyone is doubtful at best. He was already a whiny bitch. It’s not a wise decision to give him a kid- he can hardly care for his subordinate, what about a fucking kid-?!

You can tell Scaramouche despised your presence just from his face alone. Even as days and months go by, he would still despise you. But if you manage to rub off on him by staying with him for a year or two, he would start accepting your presence… slowly. He would still make that disgusted face whenever you’re around, but you can tell he’s soften around you and acknowledges your presence-

Scaramouche would be hard towards you, even if you’re a kid, he would still treat you just like he treats everyone. But to those people who knew him well (like Childe, Signora and other Harbingers-), they could tell Scaramouche is going easy with you-

Scaramouche isn’t that affectionate so he wouldn’t spoil you with affections or gifts, but he tries. He’ll leave some trinkets he found while he’s out and about in front of you before leaving promptly- (i swear he’s a tsun-tsun :3-) this cycle would continue even as years go by.

Scaramouche would train you harshly and isn’t afraid to force open your eyes to the harshness of reality- just bc ur a kid doesn’t mean ur an exception to the rules of reality. (“You’ve got no choice but to accept it as it is.” Scaramouche said, almost sadly while staring as someone was killed in front of you two-).

He would let you play with Childe (Childe is good with kids, okay? He has siblings for Teyvat’s sake-). He might as well give you to Childe with how often you are seem with the hydro-user instead of the 6th Harbinger- but you would always go back to Scaramouche.

Everyone would always ask you how you handle the harshness of Scaramouche (it’s no secret that he’s the least liked Harbinger-), but your response is always the same- “because I love him! He’s my older brother!” (Whilst Scaramouche is blushing behind the wall-).

Scaramouche is protective of you, believe it or not. So if you are with him while he’s outside, he’ll keep you close with him and doesn’t allow you to wander off. If you do wander off, he would panic as he searches for you. He would most definitely scream at you before hugging you- (he’s relieved that you’re unharm- 👀)

If you’re being attacked or taken away, everyone in the Fatui would be so scared of him as he goes out to search for you. If you’re kidnapped, he would let out a search party. And they aren’t allowed to be back unless you are with them (unless they want to get some beating from him-). He would immediately kill whoever attacked you or kidnapped you, even if you’re there to witness it, he would still kill them.

Scaramouche, overall, isn’t perfect. Afterall, he still despised you even after years go by- but he’s grown attached to you. Just,, be patient with him and continue to love him.

Since character design is something you clearly are great at: what are some important things you've learned about it via trial and error?

oh gosh you are making me blush

this ended up being kind of all over the place and long but here goes!

1. Fundamentals

You might have heard this many times already but shape language and silhouettes are important there are many great videos on youtube about these fundamentals!

2. Colors and patterns

Additionally, the human brain has this fun thing where it likes patterns and recognizing patterns

Can you recognize these?

These are literally just different colored blocks but I'm pretty sure you can recognize at least 2 of them if you are a Danganronpa fan. And I bet it's Kokichi and Monokuma. The thing about them is that they have one very strong association in their character design, and that's a checkered pattern and a black and white split. No one else in any of the game casts have this visual quirk. It's their own individual design, which makes them recognizable.

3. Themes and concepts

On the other hand, you can try to make the character be recognized as a concept/theme. Dr is pretty good practice ground for it if you are making ocs since every character is supposed to have a specific skill/career. Let's look at Kirumi.

I see a lot of people say that her design is bland but I think a part of the issue is that a lot of the ndrv3 cast wears white/black/monochrome, which is why she sorta gets lost in the sauce so to speak. (Additionally the black and white could have been more contrasted but I think that was a style choice since the series uses a lot of washed-out colors) imagine if she was the only character in that cast that wears those colors, she would stand out more.

But one thing that's very clear about her is that she is a maid. She has some clothing pieces that make it clear, like the apron dress and the headpiece (I don't know what it's called I'm sorry). And the thing is they could have just put her in a basic french maid outfit but they actually tried to add her personality and what she would wear into it. (WHICH IS VERY IMPORTANT BTW MAKE SURE YOUR CHARACTER WOULD ACTUALLY CHOOSE TO WEAR THE OUTFIT UNLESS IT'S NOT THEIR PERSONAL CHOICE)

Something that I cannot stop gushing about is her gloves though. The metal rings make me think of door knockers ("knock knock, housekeeping!") and I think that's very clever that they have been added to her gloves. It is also a detail no other character in any of the other games has, which makes it recognizable to her.

Kirumi does not only have a maid theme, but she also has a spider theme going on. (as you can see with the web design on the apron dress). I think they could have pushed a bit more with the spider theme but I think it still works.

So what I'm trying to say is try to make your character have at least one unique design choice to them, be it a pattern, an accessory, a theme.

4. Don't be afraid to push your characters to look different from one another

one of the main points that I realized at the start is that don't try to make your character look attractive. Sometimes this can hinder you from making an interesting cast of characters. (this is partly about the same face syndrome, but this also goes for body types). It might feel very weird and not look great at the start as you are exaggerating features but trust me. Prioritizing the uniqueness of the character over how much your friends would want to play lip guitar with them really helps in the long run.

Once you get used to it, your characters will start to look prettier again when you are tuned to it but they will also look more diverse with their facial and body features!

(And my entire cast! I think they look different enough from one another for them not to be mistaken for one another even if you made them bald '<___< hopefully...)

I think those are the most important things that I figured out about character design! Remember that I'm self-taught and my personal experience isn't the one and only way of designing. So don't take my suggestions as the law.

And if there is anything to take to heart from this post, it's that one of the most important parts is to make them recognizable and memorable.
