Randomly thinking of Paris's Judgement and how the goddesses basically HAD to bribe him-

Sorry, I've a hard time believing that the literal goddess of being hot and attractive could NOT be the obvious answer to the question at hand.

The problem was not picking Aphrodites, it was saying out loud whe was obviously the most beautiful in front of the other two.

The point of the gifts, imho, was not that he actually ever had any doubt, but that picking THAT way allowed everyone to make the question about someone else and pretend the obvious answer wasn't obvious ("no, he couldn't pick any of us, he picked the -worst- gift instead").

Also now the story has a moral, and thousands can die later from the fallout instead of one shepherd in Anatolia immediately dying for stating the obvious.
