Hello 👋

Swallowing my nerves at last to send you an ask! I was just wondering, what inspires your designs? Are their inspirations in stuff like movies or games? Or just things you come up with yourself?

i .. honestly its kinda hard to tell, sometimes i just randomly think of something, like some detail, or color combination and try to incorporate that into a design somehow; it can come from anywhere, like the color scheme of a pithaya/dragonfruit is something i have been wanting to make a design with for ages but havent come up with anything good in all those years ;O;

im a very easily fascinated by color, espeically in nature, like sometimes i just stop and stare at something like i froze in time bc i just woooooooooooooah color! i probably look like a weirdo doing that though

its really hard to pinpoint anything specifically, the most is probably .. other artists? i guess? which always makes me nervous bc my memory is shit in most areas of life and i worry myself to pieces whether i unintentionally "stole" an idea and just dont remember and think it was my own, it goes further that sometimes i see something that makes me want to draw a similar concept but dont bc i dont want to 'steal' even if that couldnt be further from my intention (have been accused of that before ..)

that said for my ocs specifically .. most are rather old and have just kinda evolved out of their awkward first iterations (shargons first iteration was a hauro-howl- copy that was really just some human covered in feathers .. another oc was once a hellboy copy but in green- havent drawn nor redeisgn them in ages lol), the biggest inspirations for them is a mix of animals, bonus if you dont see them often- im a big shark, whale and sea creatures in general nerd so i tend to take from them as a priority but always trying to be less directly animal and mostly just .. features that work together

Eadrya is one of the newer OCs- i started to write but then looked at my folders and oh they are from 2017 .., i even made a design timeline for them how much they, and my art, have changed back in 2020, so thats also way outdated now lol (they apparently started as a whale .. thing? its like a pokemon evolution lol)

this is them now (i like this sketch still, though shargons design is now also outdated lmao)

this ones from early 2023 so also outdated now but you get the point

for demons i try to be a bit more wild on shapes and colors while still adhering to the rules of how they work (humanoid form, demon form, animalistic, one element each and more or less made to fit that, 4 arms is very common, look to be bost scary and wild but also something that would make you stop in tracks and stare in awe and fear if you crossed paths)

often times designs just kinda .. happen, i have maybe the idea ok i wanna make something with a white and red pattern also moose or those big horned cows are cool and kinda scary so maybe sth akin to that (though this one is technically a redesign too- its also pretty much entirely different)

for non demons but still non human i go for a much more restrained design, mainly inspired directly by an animal and giving the color scheme a good spin, plus adding unconventional body shapes, like ki'ita is also a good example, her old idea was just orca anthro pirate and just by making the white green instead in her most recent redesign already adds that little spin to it

that can have its pitfalls though, as i often fall into the big arm small head small legs scheme over and over xD

alot of it is trial and error, deciding on the colors can take me hours bc im always searching for my little rule of having one contrast color that shows up in very few places to draw attention to it (like with Eadrya its those bright yellow eyes and thingy at their tail)

and that is all about myy own ocs, when its fandom stuff it works kinda similar though, either in the connections i wanna draw or just thinking it further- like how deities in destiny work also just kinda .. happened like an ever derailing train

like for demise i was at first really just im gonna give him horns bc horns are cool and he got those on the starting mural in the game- so how his hair work? well maybe it isnt hair actually and just unbound energy, im making him a deity too and fit hylias design to his so, yeah, then so how does it work, ok he gotta have a skeleton still, but what if his entire actual body is made up of pure magical energy with its core in the ribcage? with the core in the ribcage >:3c and the scales you see are just like cooled down lava as an armor bc his thing is fire and earth !! the normal blood? is a thin layer of skin imiated from mortals to keep the scales together and flexible so if he ACTUALLY gets hurt hed bleed magic that looks more like lava and any normal blood you see is just the armor- so why does he have a skeleton still instead of being just energy? maybe its gotta be bound to something OH and what if all of the deities started as mortals like a mirror to the trio later on and the gods cannot have direct influence to the worlds so they needed a right hand that is neither god nor mortal but both by killing a mortal by whatever their element will be (demise burned, hylia drowned etc) and their skeleton and spirit is kept but put into a body of magic- OH what if their spirit core is like almost piloting their bodies like a mech in a way bc if youd look close youd see that every strand of magic is actual a hand of their spirit so it makes it more weird and other bc hed be able to reach out with thousands of burning claws of all shapes and sizes like the beheaded forest god at the end of mononoke- SO if hed lose and arm or something all those strands would untangle and rearrange his bones back together-OH MY GOD the whole armor idea works so well for ghirahims dark armor so what if demise had two swords once and lost one and since has forged an armor similar to his own for ghirahim out fo fear of losing him t---

and that all is a process that happens over several weeks and months not rarely while i am drawing something mindlessly and suddendly *have a thought* and omg that makes so much sense-

so "what" inspires my designs? an ever derailing train of thought about making cool thick monsters that arent the evil thing to get rid of for once? cool color schemes? idk it just kinda happens??

I was flipping a Lisa/Diluc idea around in my head at the barn and entertained a throwaway line where Lisa comments that she'd be annoyed Diluc hadn't even looked at her breasts in this dress if Kaeya hadn't already told her he was immune (my ace Diluc headcanons are strong XD), and my brain instantly filled in the backstory scene: Lisa and Kaeya together at the Angel's Share. Lisa is wearing her most how-does-she-not-fall-out-of-that dress because Jean was supposed to join them when she finished her work, but, well, she hasn't shown, so they've both gotten very drunk and are playing a little game with each other of seeing how many drunk people they can make stumble or spill their drinks by flashing their respective cleavage. Lisa is in the lead by a long shot, but Diluc is her white whale, because she knows Kaeya will think it's funny but she can't get him to so much as look at her decolletage, no matter how she poses or what maneuvers she pulls when he comes over to refill these drinks. Finally she pouts aloud about it, and Kaeya laughs and tells her that Diluc didn't even notice Jean's breasts when he was sixteen years old and telling everyone who would listen that he was going to marry her, so he doubts there's cleavage out there that's going to attract his attention.

Shen Wei noncon for the WIP game? 👀👀👀

Forgive me for sitting on this one for a while, @flamingwell, but every time I had time to sit down and answer it, I was at work on my work computer and that was just weird. XD

And I'm going to put the rest of this behind a cut because sensitive topics...

OK, so for those of you who have known me for a hot second, you know I have a dub/noncon kink a mile wide. And if I'm in a fandom and love a character enough, I'm eventually going to want to write some for them.

Only I could never quite get there with Shen Wei.

This is for two reasons:

The Guardian fandom, on the whole, doesn't really seem that into noncon/dead dove fic. This isn't a complaint or a judgement, just an observation. But it was enough to put me off trying to write it for a fandom I wasn't sure would appreciate it.

Shen Wei is such a fucking POWERHOUSE, who on EARTH was going to be able to subdue him long enough for a noncon fic to even WORK? (Yes, I know, the obvious answer is Ye Zun, and I was absolutely willing to go there, but it felt like a cheat and it also introduced elements that were different than the ones I wanted to explore at that time.)

So, I'd been having conversations with a friend about the dilemma of how to write noncon for Shen Wei off and on for months. (The same friend who has been trying to tempt me back into writing Guardian again for some time now. And she got me halfway there with the Amnesia fic by dangling university found family ideas in my face.) He'd kind of become my white whale, so to speak. XD And one day it just... hit me. That there was a VERY obvious answer.

Something has to interfere with his powers.

And he has to be willing to allow it to happen to some extent, because even without his powers, he's an incredible fighter.

And then this fic happened. XD

The basic premise is that something is wonky with the Dixing gates post-canon, and periodically they warp the dark energy that gets through into Haixing in such a way that it causes all dark energy use to backlash on the caster. And during one such time, Shen Wei comes across a student about to be assaulted and gets involved, in spite of the obvious risk to himself.

The gang in question end up hurting him instead.

And from there it's a mess of Shen Wei being convinced that this type of injury is no worse than any other type of injury and therefore there's no reason to be overly distressed about it. And Zhao Yunlan and Da Qing easily seeing that something is Very Wrong, but not knowing what or being able to figure it out.

Until of course, Shen Wei eventually breaks and the truth comes out and he gets a chance to properly heal.

STRAW HATS

UNO CARD GAME

- They get so rowdy while playing this game, sometimes minor fights happen. They do have fun.

- They play with the giant uno version

- Luffy has a hard time following rules sometimes and often gets yelled at by Nami or Usopp

- Sometimes Robins plays and sometimes she observes.

- Zoro plays sometimes and other times he working out.

- One time while playing he was next to Sanji and Sanji will used the specials cards on zoro. Like a skip , draw 2 and so on and yea they don’t sit next to each other while playing this game lol

- Only those that can drink probably would make a drinking game but then it be a competition between who can drink more like Nami vs Zoro

- Chopper and Brook loves playing this game

MONOPOLY

- Their monopoly board is different, it not like cities (like ex: boardwalk), it’s owning islands( 3 main versions of the board exist which one board is islands within the north, south,east and west blue, Paradise(grand line), and the New World. 4 other boards exist but are regional in terms of property like the North Blue version of the game is different than the South Blue version just like US board is different than the UK board ), community chests are treasure chests, jail is Impel down too (idk where to put things like the calm belt and what to change the utilities too cause that wouldn’t make sense and neither would the railroads) the money for the game is obviously one piece currency berries just a smaller version and colored differently too)

- They play Paradise version of Monopoly

- Player pieces are different too. So we got a pirate ship, an open treasure chest with like coins in it, pirates hat, a sword , a parrot, a barrel , an Eternal pose, a devil fruit (that is random in each box.)

- They play with the fake money and Nami is the Banker.

- There only 8 player pieces so they take turns playing

- Nami plays sometimes as the treasure chest or the eternal pose

- Luffy plays as the barrel or the the devil fruit , ship

- Sanji would play as barrel or parrot. sometimes sword if Zoro and Him are in the same game and they often fight about it

- Zoro plays as sword most of the time unless Sanji takes it, the he pick any other token available

- Chopper plays as parrot of pirate hat

- Robin picks ship or eternal pose or pirate hat

- Franky picks the ship

- Brook plays as sword

- Jimbei plays as the pirate hat, parrot, or barrel

- (I thought of this afterwards lol ) Franky has crafted more tokens for the game for people to pick from beside the tokens provided by the box. So Franky makes the following player tokens, some based on his shipmates: a mini version of their Jolly Roger flag, violin [brook], A Poneglyph with tiny writing[Robin], a syringe[Chopper], Chef Hat[Sanji], Slingshot[Usopp], Mini Straw hat[Luffy], Mini version of the Sunny, mini 3 swords that kinda joined together [Zoro], One small Berry dollar[Nami],a tiny shark whale[Jimbei]Book, mini weight bar,

- Franky went over board with making the tokens but the crew loves them so a good majority of the time they use the tokens he made. They switch them every now and then tho.

CLUE GAME

- The clue board looks different too. There a version where the board is rooms on a pirate ship and the other version is a celestial dragon mansion.

- They play the clue pirate ship one (obviously)

- And the weapon pieces are somewhat different. The six pieces on the pirate ship are A sword, a Gun, rope, the Jolly Roger flag, a cast iron pan, spyglass (I had trouble coming up with 6 weapons lol)

- Okay so the victim is the Captain lol cause this is a Mutiny XD

- The suspects are the Vice Captain[yellow], chef[white], doctor[purple], navigator[green], shipwright[Blue], Helmsman[red] (I had to look that up lol also I’m not gonna give them name cause I can’t think of any sry)

- Again Franky will make little weapons for this too they are: a syringe, a slingshot, hammer , weight bar, a THICK BOOK (XD)

- Sometimes they play with the board but sometimes they play Robins way. Robins way their entire ship is the board. Franky also went out of the way to make the weapons for this game. And even big dice to play. Brook plays the victim and only he knows who killed him cause he has the Manila folder. There still on six players and the others participant in another way like holding the cards and they use the transponder snails. Robin went into making this elaborately to make it more fun and some of the rules made have been modified or rules have been added. (I haven’t worked out every detail on how they play tho sry I just though that was a cool idea )

CARDS AGAINST HUMANITY

- They definitely play this game. Someone did have to explain to Chopper that it’s just for fun and not what you actually believe and someone had to explain the rules to Luffy. Once that was out of the way this is a fun game that they play and it really Fits Robin well XD. They also get loud with laughter

- Zoro is the worst judge. One time he choose Sanji card for being the Funniest and then when he found out it was Sanji immediately charged the card cause he didn’t want to give the round to him. This leads to a fight lol. Sanji as also done this to Zoro as well when judging.

- Robin, Nami, Franky are the best when pick funniest cards for the topic.

- Usopp has a con state “oh my gawd NOOO “ face. Like his reactions are hilarious.

- Chopper also makes a face sometimes depending on how awful it is.

- Cards that have to do with death or being dead are somehow played by Brook.

SORRY BOARD GAME

- they have the birthday edition of the game (I also have the birthday Edition of the game lol )

- Chopper love this game and he’ll take it out to play.

- Robin, Zoro , and Sanji often play with him when he asks.

- Robins suggest to play the game to Chopper knowing he likes the game. But she shows no mercy lol

- Zoro also doesn’t show mercy.

- Since there only a 4 player limit when chopper asks if anyone want to play with him sometimes other crew members will play rock paper scissor to decide who plays in the first round.

WHAT DO YOU MEME

- Similar to how they play cards against humanity. this always causes the crew to burst with laughter

- Most of the time the players are Chopper, Luffy, Usopp and Brook. The three of them love to ply this game (they would definitely play the SpongeBob version too XD)

- The entire crew does play together sometimes as well

THATS WHAT SHE SAID

- this game is mostly played by Zoro, Franky, Nami,Robin,Usopp, Brook and Sanji. Jimbe takes part it in it.

- Chopper doesn’t play this game. Robin won’t allow it

- Luffy doesn’t understand it so he doesn’t play.

- Sometimes drinking is involved

CANDYLAND

- this is similar to the Sorry game where Chopper loves to play.

- Another game that has a 4 player limit, crew members sometimes play rock paper scissors to determine who plays with Chopper

- Another game Robin sometimes recommends to play with chopper cause she knows he loves it

- Of chopper wins he is given Candy for winning.

They have games like Trivia, ScatteGories, chess, checkers, scrabble.

- these game mostly with Robin,Franky, Nami, Jimbei, Usopp, Brook and Chopper

- Robin been teaching chopper how to play chess. But she also plays checkers with him to give him a break.

- Robins plays chess mostly with Franky,Brook, and Jimbei. Usopp every once and a while tries but never wins.

- Nami doesn’t play chess

Luffy

- his favorite games to play are :what do you meme, uno, and cards against humanity

- Loves playing with his friends

- Does like card games more than board games

Zoro

- he doesn’t have a preference for cards or boards games and enjoys playing with his crew

- Except with Sanji

- Enjoys cards against humanity, that what she said, uno.

Usopp

- He enjoys playing a good majority of these games

- His favorites tho are: what do you meme, uno, monopoly and clue.

- Does also enjoy playing the games of trivia and scrabble

Nami

- Monopoly is her favorite at of all of them.

- he enjoys playing any game Robin or Nami play even if he isn’t good.

Chopper

- His favorites are Sorry, Candyland, uno and what do you meme

- He also likes playing Robins version of clue

- He likes learning how to play chess from Robin

- He also love playing Operation despite it being inaccurate (I didn’t really include the game above either. It was kinda an afterthought)

Robin

- She enjoys her version of clue, monopoly, and cards against humanity as her favorite besides games like trivia, scattegories, scrabble, and chess

- Also enjoys the similar game of Sorry and Candyland with Chopper and sometimes even suggest they play.

- She does in fact dominate games like chess, scattegories and trivia.

- She also the once to introduce them to a game called Pictionary( I only really know the concept of the game which you have to draw and that’s it so I didn’t really include it above)

Franky

- loves that what she said, cards against humanity, clue and uno

- He also enjoyed making stuff for the games as well.

- Likes Playing chess with Robin and is good enough to go against here.

Brook

- loves that what she said, uno, what do you meme, monopoly, and cards against humanity

- Enjoys playing Candyland and sorry with Chopper

- Also enjoys playing chess and trivia with Robin and Franky

- He like being the victim in the robins version of clue, but also enjoys the board game.

Jimbei

- Enjoys uno, clue, monopoly, cards against humanity the most

- Playing chess with Robin is also fun

- Trivia is fun cause he learns things too

My favorite is Riolu. There's a lot of baggage as to why, but the truest tipping point was with (say it with me now) Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. When I got my copy of Explorers of Sky I had a hell of a time getting the damn thing to work. I was in the middle of a roadtrip to a wedding in Vegas, and during that trip the purchase was made. I waited until we got to the hotel to play it, and I even got Riolu on my first try! Unfortunately God decided I needed to wait longer to actually play the game. See, the hotel my family was staying in was one of those Vegas hotels with like. 30 floors. And for some reason my DS Lite could not stay on while we were in our hotel room. So I made it through the opening minutes only for my ds to shut off on its own, even though it had power. This repeated ad nauseum for the entire time there. Since I could only play the game when we were at the hotel room, it meant I had to do the personality test over. And over. And over. And you know what? I got Riolu most of those tries! It wasn't until the road home when the damn thing finally worked and I was able to play the game enough to save. The rest was history.

Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia also contributed to it, because that Aura Sphere Riolu was (and still is) my white whale. I was pissed I couldn't get the event. xD

Ray and Sebastian, hypothetically? (Dunno how it'd be possible, but to heck with it. XD)

Hey, two cis guys having a bio-child is like the LEAST weird non-normative way a kid gets made in Marvel! Name: Jason Ray Shaw Gender: Cis Male General Appearance: Sturdy is the word that comes to mind. He’s 5′8, with very broad shoulders and a broad chest. His very dark blue hair is in a ponytail, longer than Sebastian’s but shorter than Ray’s. His eyes are likewise a dark steel blue, almost black. Like Shaw, he’s a little darker complected than most white people, kind of a Black Irish thing going, and his features are very intense and striking, with Ray’s more delicate ones softening the harshness from Shaw into a very handsome blend. Dresses in black and deep blue businesswear. Personality: Kind of cocky, but in a laid back way. Like he doesn’t HAVE to be aggressive because he’s got everything under control no matter what. And he’s found that if you act like this, even when things are very OUT of your control, people tend to assume you indeed are as unthouchable as you act. Jason always seems like he has a plan, and he usually does, but is also clever and composed enough to handle even the most bizarre and dangerous of surprises on the fly. He’s not impolite, but nor is he formal, and frequently behaves in a far more carefree way than one would expect from a man on his station---but under the laissez faire surface, he’s deadly serious and always has his eyes on the prize, whatever that may be. He likes a good game and a worthy opponent, whether or not his chosen foe knows they’re playing. Jason is always confident in his ability to win, but when he loses, he’s surprisingly graceful and even downright charming about it. He’s suave and social, but by his own choosing has few close friend, because he prizes his own company highly. Ray taught Jason to appreciate the ocean’s power and beauty and all that lives within it. Sebastian taught Jason to appreciate money and what it can bring you. Jason grew up learning business from Shaw, and once he’d acquired a small sum of his own earning, he began investing in marine-based projects, from farming mussels to to undersea mining to developing ocean power technologies. Within a decade he developed an investment firm called Black Seas based entirely on taking money from the ocean----but unlike Sebastian, he also gives back, having never forgotten the love and respect for the sea that Ray imparted to him. While he mostly stays within the law, he also doesn’t lose too much sleep if, say, a whaling ship or oil tanker just mysteriously disappears if you get my drift.  Special Talents: I’m not exactly distinct, but I’m thinking that the things that make the deep water dangerous to normal humans---the cold, the pressure, etc---he can not only cope with, but absorb, store, and rechannel. So like, if he did deep-diving without the proper, he’d not only be fine, he’d store the coldness and pressure inside his body and be able to fire it at someone else later. Something like that. Who they like better: Ray Who they take after more: Sebastian Personal Head canon:  Ray is definitely the nicer parent, but while Jason likes and loves Ray more, I think he respects Sebastian more. He wants to make Ray happy and cares about Ray’s feelings, he wants to impress Sebastian. Also, it’s not a trend I expect to continue, but I’ve noticed all the Shawspawn from this meme so far are connect to the sea; DARJA is in the fishing industry and KAIMANA is literally a wereshark.  Also I named him after Jason as in Jason & the Argonauts, I wanted a name with an ocean/sailing connection but not too obvious. Ray as a middle name came, obviously, from Raymond’s nickname, but I also liked the idea of it sounding like “Rey” which is Spanish for “king” Face Claim: N/A

9 - do i own any band merch and what? - okay here im gonna talk about my band merch white whale. back when i still lived with my mum i used to have this MCR shirt i got from the world contamination tour that was just black with ART IS THE WEAPON in big white letters across the front and it was one of the first band merch i got i absoloutely loved it. unfortunatly [backstory redacted] and i no longer have it and its probably been destroyed ;-; legit if i could find that shirt again id be so happy. also yh i have a few other random band shirts lying around but not from actual gigs like that one >_< 12 - haircut/colour plans? - acctually yeah but i cant decide xD think im gonna do it in the next month tho :3

FFT - First Fic Tag/Favourite Fic Tag

Thank you so much @kyungsootrash120!! ^^ I really appreciate being tagged in something after being gone for such a long time. Though I’m writing here and there, nothing to say I’m truly back, sadly. This was a great idea and fun too!

Story(ies) we're talking about: My first story was the one shot Acquiesce, but a top favorite of mine is SCIRE. So we’ll talk about SCIRE! 

Characters: Do Kyungsoo and Kim Jongin, of course. Minor characters are Jongdae, Minseok, Baekhyun, and Junmyeon.

What do you like the best about your story? I love the world building and scientific elements within the story. The world was inspired by the game Horizon Zero Dawn and one of the readers was able to pick up on it. I also love the plot twists and gradual character development for both protagonists. 

What do you like the least about your story? I wasn’t too fond of the time limit I had on this fic, so I had to skip a few things. However, in the end, it turned out alright. The action sequence near the climax was more movie-esque because of the time limit. Other than that, there was nothing I particularly disliked. Everything was what I wanted. 

Is your story inspired in real life events? No, not at all. This one is purely fictional in the genre of sci-fi. And I think that makes it very interesting.

Any anecdotes or memories you want to add about your story? I was excited pretty much the whole time while writing Scire, because my vision was so clear of what I wanted to happen, I was really looking forward to my readers finding out the twists! I thought it was fun to write and fun to solve while reading.

If not English, what's your first language? Well, it’s English lol

What's your white whale in terms of writing, whether fanfiction or not? I find it difficult to finish a story apparently xD All of these incomplete stories haunt me. But while writing, the difficulties I face are writing a solid beginning and ending. I always want my story to come around full circle and teach a lesson. So I try my best to write something emotional and memorable which is tough to do.  

What's on your writing bucket list? To complete the stories I haven’t finished, and to work on this new story that I’m writing for a fic fest. I also have an original fantasy novel that I’m in the middle of building the skeleton for. It’s really exciting! I’ve been wanting to return to writing and it feels like I might be able to do that. After this hiatus, I just want to write what I enjoy and have fun. ^^

Lmao I got three I'm particularly curious about for you on the character meme. Thancred, Lahabrea, Igeyorhm. XD Feel free to do as many or as few as you'd like of course!

You asked for it. We’ll start with That Damned Rogue. The Ascians will be below.

This of course got long, so behind a cut it goes:

Thancred

First impression: I started in Gridania and took like 2 years to finish ARR 2.0, was already spoiled on the possession angle (I spoiled myself, no big), and had just @erickgage‘s affectionate joking summary of Thancred being the guy who shows up 5 minutes late with Starbucks to all the early battles. So I didn’t really get to meet the guy ‘til the Waking Sands.

And honestly, he was stereotypical generic bland anime prettyboy competent guy. His 1.0/ARR model is…just sorta there. He was a flirt, also generic as heck. Really didn’t register too much, until I finished 2.0 finally and then went hard on the MSQ through the patches and into HW and StB 4.0, when I finally caught up to content.

Impression now: Godsdammit.

My first replay through the game was on PunchyCat, starting in Ul’dah, which meant I got to meet Thancred much earlier. I was immediately amused by his nickname for Nanamo, and Papashan’s assessment of the witty Archon. I was more into the lore, getting the first lorebook and reading the short stories on the main site, and playing through all at once instead of piecemeal over months/years made things make more sense. Thancred hits a lot of tropes I commonly like in a lot of characters, so he jumped up to being a favorite.

Gunbreaker suits him as a tank job (thank goodness he can stop trying to tank warmachina as a rogue, ffs Thancred), and tanking in general suits him when it comes to fighting for those he cares about.

I’m interested in the ShB story mentioning why he wears white in all his gear iterations; I’d previously made a post about his color choices and that aspect of character design, but having a lore explanation for his affinity for that color was interesting. I didn’t think his HW model suited him, honestly; way too rough mountain man hobo. His model in ShB is closer to his ARR model, but different enough, and imbued now with actual character, that he’s a bit more visually interesting and while still pretty typical handsome anime protagonist in appearance; his true personality just comes through a lot more.

I’m still forever mad about the unintentional character ‘ship with Aeryn, tho. It took a 3rd playthrough for it to happen.

For myself, mind, when I got into playing and learned his canonical age, it was at the time the same difference between myself and my younger brother. My assessment of the Scion “family” with Thancred being the middle child (esp his behavior pre-HW) maybe helps that. I’m getting to a point, really, where I look at the characters under 35 and think “OMG disaster children, all of you.”

Favorite moment: Oh goodness. There’s some good ones.

‘How was I supposed to know all my girlfriends would track me down and show up at HQ all at the same time: a master class in how to not to deal with multiple paramours by Archon T. Waters.’

His dramatic reappearance and duel with Ardbert in HW 3.1.

Taking out his frustrations by soloing the Coerthas cyclops boss so we can get on with the Tournament and fight Raubahn. (Side Bonus: pre-tournament when he jokes about fighting for the other team to even up the odds, and then: “It looks to be a veritable who’s who of the Eorzean Alliance. The only question is: who came to watch and who came to fight? Hmm…Nanamo. Definitely Nanamo.”)

Making sure Urianger knew he was still part of the team post-Soul Surrender climax.

“All right, which one of you triggered the obvious trap?” Also learning he can hold his breath for 10 freaking minutes–but still gets to be jealous of the WoL, Lyse, and Alisaie for their kojin blessing.

That dramatic teamwork with Urianger to knock Ran’jit down the pit in Rak’tika.

That frickin’ Trolley duty and it’s aftermath with the completed checklist of anime death markers and then just sitting there battered and bleeding and smiling and then giving Ryne a name and a headpat and “You’re family.” Bastard.

Idea for a story: Have you seen my Ao3 account? *grumbles*

Unpopular opinion: While he likely used drinking as a bad coping mechanism at times in ARR’s patches, I doubt he ever really went to blackout, as losing control to that extent, after having been controlled and probably losing a lot of time while possessed, would be awful. We see him drink a few times, but I don’t think he is/was an alcoholic.

I also agree with @ahlis-xiv that his flirtatious persona was mostly adopted. While he probably does have a healthy libido and enjoys time with paramours (that Urianger keeps a handy list of), there’s a lot that’s likely exaggerated, allowed to be assumed, and otherwise used as a cover, given his specializations. It’s also noteworthy how he’s mostly acting the same even after being lost in the wilderness, right up until our foray into the Antitower. The wit/humor gets toned down a lot, but the flirting is cut out entirely after that. He still charms some ladies in the First, based on incidental dialogue, but that seems a general reaction to him being a handsome hero type rather than any intentional flirtatious act on his part.

Favorite relationship: Thancred and little sister types. I do wish we’d seen more of his relationship with Minfilia outside of informed moments and the short stories. I feel like he has a semi-older-brother relationship with Lyse, too, given their antics in the 2.0 patches (particularly the “Hoary’s fighting the WoL, come watch!” and Thancred not even considering how one of his girlfriends would see him sending Lyse to retrieve an item until after and going “oh yeah, whoops”). And now there’s Ryne, and she is totally running things if you watch their background conversations/body language. But that’s kind of where Thancred likes it; find a girl who needs a protective older brother and do what she asks and whatever she needs.

I do have a special place in my heart for the expanded broship with Urianger that Shadowbringers gave us, though. I’ve already spoken on that one.

Favorite headcanon: Everything people assume about how he spoils the nutkin. And really, focusing on taking care of and doting on a pet would be good therapy. Goodness knows he needs it.

Also I assume he and Hilda hooked up at least once during the HW patches. Part of that expectation and cover, sure, to immediately flirt with the pretty, tough, half-elezen guard captain. But also, he spent however long mostly alone, and then only with the Vath and a nutkin for company; the guy was probably touch-starved and lonely and just needing a connection to another person he could relate to (that wasn’t a bug).

Otherwise, again, have you seen my Ao3? Ugh. Damned snarky smart rogues…

Lahabrea

First impression: Laughing Organization XIII-wannabe is obvious villain. Wonder what their deal is.

Impression now: So much lost/wasted potential thanks to being stuck as the ARR villain when it was so hastily rewritten and acted, and so little was decided on the Ascians and their motivations yet. A lot of what we learn now retroactively makes him more interesting. The fact he was a workaholic who looked at the workaholic Scion and went “ah yes; that one will do, perfect” makes me laugh.

Favorite moment: I like his interactions with Elidibus. And I am actually fairly fond of his theatrical reveal in Praetorium about the Ultima Weapon, the Heart of Sabik, and casting Ultima.

Idea for a story: Maybe stuff while he’s possessing Thancred. Maybe stuff between then and the Reactor. I dunno; I’ve been enjoying a lot of others’ stories about our first Ascian antagonist.

Unpopular opinion: Dunno if this is unpopular, but some of the retroactive information is to excuse why he seemed so much less powerful than other, later Ascians, but I do think the Speaker could be quite devious and powerful, if he had better writing around him. He suffers for being from ARR.

Favorite relationship: I am not ashamed to admit I am a Lahabrea/Igeyorhm shipper and Hades Ex seems to agree with me so there.

Favorite headcanon: The Speaker likely also had a good singing voice. Another thing good about possessing a man whose primary cover was a bard–excuses to indulge that.

Igeyorhm

First impression: Wannabe-Organization XIII also hires women, cool. Wonder if she’ll get to do anything?

Impression now: I’m sad so much got cut from HW; as great as it was, a lot got left on the editing room floor and it shows in spots–particularly where the Ascians connect with the plot. We learn much about her retroactively as well, including how she worked for/with Lahabrea thanks to being the one to wreck the Thirteenth, and change Ascian policy on how to bring about Rejoinings. I still wanna know more about her.

Favorite moment: You beat the whale, good job–thanks, that’s my key now. It’s such a perfect dick move. Excellent timing and taunting. 

Idea for a story: Maybe some of her inner thoughts working for/with Lahabrea. She was a raised up shard, so does that mean they found the scattered pieces of her original soul and force-merged them? I doubt it, since Emet-Selch mentions raising up those who are a piece of the previous office holder, but I wonder if it came with imbuing the new title-holder with some of those memories and knowledge. Perhaps she wonders if some of her interactions/feelings/whatever with Lahabrea are her own, or her tapping into her previous life’s memories. Something to think about, anyway.

Unpopular opinion: I dunno, she shoulda gotten to stick around longer? Or been allowed to do a lot more? Should have been much more of a presence in HW, but I don’t think that’s unpopular so much as unconsidered.

Favorite relationship: Lahabrea is really the only one she gets significant interactions with. Though I wonder about her interactions with the other few women in the Ascians.

Favorite headcanon: See above with the story ideas, really; she didn’t get a lot of time onscreen so there’s a lot of room to make things up, and retroactive info from ShB to make her more interesting, or at least her situation as an upraised Ascian.

Once Upon A Time Rewatch: 2x08 Into the Deep

Oh my God this scene with wet!Hook is so hott. Have I mentioned I kinda ship Captain of Hearts romantically? Not like in a serious relationship but ya know, they totally did the do  ;).

I have no idea if Hook is lying to Cora about his intentions being to bring the bean to her.

I love dark scenes. I just love the dark, okay?

Hook, I’m pretty sure Cora could kill you in seconds if she wanted to. She took down a whole bunch of people in the safe haven!

Wow that’s some powerful magic! She’s holding only one heart and yet she is controlling all of them at once. I forgot just how powerful Cora was. And holy cow, is she bringing the dead “back to life”? That would mean what Whale did could be accomplished by magic alone with the right sorcerer.

I wonder if MM and Emma ever thought they would be stuck in the EF forever.

Holy sugar, I’m so glad I no longer believe in hell because that room scared the sugar out of me before! How awful would it be to be trapped their for an extended length of time? How awful would it be to return their in your nightmares?

I like to look at Horses from far away, being up close with them makes me nervous though because they are so big, and I am a freaking Hobbit.

This is silly, but I had this book when I was a kid.. and I absolutely loved it. It was called Piggy Pie. I still have the book, but its pretty torn up its in storage.

I can’t Sew, and I have no idea what a textile skill is. So... probably not?

Nope.

I like to collect smaller versions of objects. If that makes sense. Like.. I have a tiny bucket and a fork. I’ll attach a picture if I can figure out how. XD  (and yes that is a tiny peter pan in the bucket too. XD)

Yes! Animals love me. except Chickens.. evil bastards.

I went on a Dolphin Cruise in Gulf Shores. Does that count?

When I was first diagnosed with Graves Disease, I once slept a full 20 hours. Thats when I realized something was wrong because I had gone all my life sleeping 2-3 hours a night. 

Grumpy – Ever been known by a different name?

Yep. From 8th-11th grade I hated my name (Haley) and went by a completely different name. Teachers even called me by my fake name. So everyone literally thought thats what my name was. And then in 12th grade I switched back to Haley and everyone felt betrayed LOL It was great.. (I may like chaos a little too much.) 

Ruby Lucas – Do you pay attention to the phases of the moon?

Yes, I’m kind of obsessed with the Moon, and space. 

Emma Swan – Have you ever owned a leather jacket?

Yes.

Hubby says I do. I don’t agree.

I used to draw, until Graves Disease. I can’t really draw anymore because I get hand tremors. Same with Photography. But I write.
