So i wanted to make a reply to this since im part of it and wanted to show my side since ive reblogged this a bunch but never actually explained stuff in case my followers havent read it (thats on me, alot of tumblr users dont like to read XD) I was the one who goldie asked to reach out to this person to apologize, as she understood that if she tried to reach out to them that would have stressed them out and she didnt want that. this is because despite repeated proof of her showing love and support to trans selfshippers and trans people, this user kept spreading awful rumors from things years ago (as well as a friendship with an awful person that goldie has repeatedly shown to me she regretted) and it basically chased her out of the selfship community, this having gone on for well over 2 years now. I reached out and conveyed there message, this user while not accepting the apology. promised me that they would stop reaching out to people and saying these things (something they had tried to do to me when i first was posting here after coming back from deleting my blogs, an entirely different situation). and as they were my friend at the time i believed them. they deleted the conversation after as it was a store spot to see. However, this instead continued and has continued since then. after this i had cut of all ties with this user and continued to support my friend goldie. Ive watched this tear her apart over the span of 2 years, watched it drive her to mental breakdowns, made her isolate and be too scared too interact with anyone online, and how they were too scared to talk about it, instead hoping if they just let it happen then it would stop eventually and that they wouldnt be chased off tumblr. and ive hated seeing this and how badly it effects them. me and goldie havent always have had our ups and downs in our friendship, we have had some really rough moments but time and time again despite our arguments we have continued to stay friends and i fully support them and they are my friend (one i talk with every day). and i will say that i believe they are a good person who (much like everyone) grows and learns as time goes on. people make mistakes, but years old mistakes that people learn from shouldnt be met with insults and alleging a person is some of the worst things possible.

My name is Hedone and I've been in this community for about three years now. I love it truly and wish never to be parted from it. But in that time I've noticed somethings. Like how it can be difficult to survive it, especially when your starting out I feel. So, to give back I made this;

This is your guide on how to make friends and survive the selfshipping community.

So with that out the way, there are some steps to survive.

Create -

In my view, self shipping is often a creative outlet as it is a comforting one. The ability to take a piece of media into my hands and shape it to my whims and will is often awe-inspiring. I'll admit it's easier to see it with other people than with ourselves.

So with this in mind - start off small, though if you want to go guns blazing you can do that too. It doesn't have to be a lot. If you feel embarrassed, don't be. If you are afraid then don't worry cus your definitely not alone there.

Often times it helps to make a promo. This way people who find you can know some quick facts; your title, your fos and any other bits of info you wish to give. Most people will want to know if you share an fo or not - whether this is in case they are uncomfortable with share or want to know if your comfortable with sharing. Whether you are or not is your choice.

'this user' boxes are a fun way to decorate and tell people about yourself. If your worried about how it looks, then make another one, there's no limit unless you make one. Some people make Cards for it. If that's intimidating, don't worry boo, this is Tumblr - you do you.

My first real post was about what it would be like my mind was like a house and what which fos would stay and which ones would come and go. I posted it three years ago and in all that time it has gotten 16 notes on it. Does that mean that I shouldn't have created it? no, no it doesn't. Because when I read it it makes me happy.

Do a gush post, make art, start 'reblog with your f/o' game, write stories, make a moodboard - start the flow on those creative juices.

interact -

I've seen a lot of people be nervous about talking to new people and I can tell you, I feel the same. Its daunting, talking to someone new and it can be awkward wading through the small talk. Most people are in the same boat as you; nervous and wishing to talk about their fos.

Instead of focusing on being popular, try and make friends instead, its much much more emotionally fulling than the first option. Find people with fos in the same source, and try and build it up from there. You'll find your weridos eventually - you just got to sieve though the rest first. You don't have to be best pals with everyone on there but be friendly.

If you recognise a character, why not send an ask? If you have a mutual in mind, why not try and talk with them? Reblog other people's art and moodboards and posts. Doing content trades is a great way to interact with people (and boo if your worried or don't think your content is very good, don't be - we're all evolving here). Also if you can or just like to draw, you can make fanarts for a selfship you like or would like to be your mutual - like I said before, everyone on here just wants to talk about their fos here, all that is needed is a small push first.

With that in mind not everyone you talk to is going to like you, or interact the same way you do. Everyone has a style to themselves and that's ok - the trick is find someone who has the same, or a similar style as you. Even though we are interacting through a screen, remember that there is another person behind that screen; ask them how they're doing, what they're up to, if anything positive happen in their life.

Also be careful about the kinds of people you want to befriend- do they give back what you give first? Do they share your joy? You're bound to find many you click with, just be patient and don't give up - you got this 👍😊👍

Make Friends From All Walks Of The Community -

You'll never know who you're fandom buddy will be - Antis, proships, all are people and all have a different flavour to one another. Its up to you to pick. I've found that to survive here you have to lay roots. No man is an island after all. If you don't agree with a someone's ship or like it doesn't cost much to just be polite. Being considerate and kind to other people's selfships goes a long way round here.

Insecurity

Its pretty easy to feel intimidated by other's success. feeling like their ships are being validated while yours aren't (trust me here - I know what I speak of) but here's what you have to remember: We're all just people daydreaming about fictional characters - No one is better than you and you f/os will always love you!

This is one of the many reasons why building a foundation of fellow weridos is important, its good to have a someone that your able to lean on and vice versa.

But main point here is that no matter what, no one can take away your fos love for you nor your love for them. And if they try, flip them the 🖕 cus we don't give a 🦆

Karma -

I see a few newbies do this where they go onto someone's blog, reblog a game but not send in an ask from that game. If you reblog an ask game off of someone, sent in an ask from that game. Every little helps and it spreads the love around.

Tumblr is not like Instagram, likes are not the currency here. Reblog other people's art and moodboards and posts. Leave a comment in the tags about the things you like or what you felt like when you saw it, send in an ask about their post.

Remember that even though we are interacting through a screen, there is another person behind that screen; Wishing for the same things as you do.

Take Breaks

It can be tiring on here, takes up a lot of energy so taking breaks can be good for you.

It's not like your fos are going to run away the second you turn your back - come away from Tumblr for a bit and reconnect with the outside, touch some grass, take a walk outside for a while. Its can be for as long as you like. I usually find that I like to take these breaks when I have things planned, so like if I'm going somewhere or have a thing planned I generally just try and stay off Tumblr for as long as I can, till I really want to.

If you feel like your abandoning your fos then why not take them with you? what would they say when your outside? How would they react? What would you say back? things like that.

Like with many of my posts, I doubt it will get much attraction. But if one person sees it and it helps them, then that's my dues paid, my contribute made. rant about the response to my "proshippers didn't invent selfshipping" post under the cut

if anyone ever claims that being a proshipper is about blocking and moving on or not being mean then my "proshippers didn't invent selfshipping" post can easily be used as proof against that claim

they threw themselves at my post as soon as they got their hands on it, made versions of it with edited text, one of them even reblogged various versions of it not once not twice but THREE times (the same person initially had me blocked but unblocked me and now consistently interacts with my posts despite they themselves having antis dni on their profile lol. at one point they even reblogged an older post from me directly which means they're doing it on purpose. i kept them unblocked to see how long they'd keep it up but before posting this i blocked them). one thing i will give proshippers is that i didn't get weird asks like i've seen other people get. a true anti harassment win for them /s

if anyone tries to argue that i was mean first and they were just defending themselves, i didn't even say anything outrageous. all i said was "proshippers didn't invent selfshipping shut up". i didn't tell anyone to kts, i didn't target any proshipper specifically or made a huge post exposing anyone, i didn't go into peoples inboxes or dms or replies and harassed them there. i made a single, short post that was very easy to ignore. it couldn't have been any easier to just block me and move on but the majority of those who reblogged it didn't actually block me which is strange isn't it 🤨🤨🤨

since they didn't do much more than make fun of me/my post or somehow try to argue that history started with japanese internet users or something i stand by what i said. the bare minimum required for selfshipping is having feelings for a character and daydreaming about being in a relationship with them. you cannot invent getting crushes or loving something. you cannot invent daydreaming. selfshipping cannot be invented and trying to claim you or your people somehow invented basic human behavior makes you an egoistic asshole. genuinely who do you think you are. your community is nothing but a glorified group jerk off party that tries so hard to pretend that what they're doing is somehow fighting censorship and purity culture. you're not that important

Me after my call with Mari: ' Home and Wally..... symbiotic relationship.... The selfshipper community has technically either been simping for Home! Wally or silly Normal Wally, depending on the personality they liked best for him... haha. Isn't that funny? To think that the more assertive/'Scary' Wally hiding stuff and helping us is fucking HOME.

Now as to how that applies to selfshipping...

The short version:

Imagine Home liking Reader and only being able to see them/interact in very brief moments all the while watching you become friends and fall for Wally. Feeling stuck in their body, moaning and creaking and hiding thejr jealousy for their 'owner.'

The longer version:

Home getting a body is like a demon learning how to be human. It's never had the experiences it gets while inhabiting Wally. To grab, walk, move, taste.

To feel emotions.

It's so much to grasp all at once, and it makes him laugh in his inexperienced cadence. He felt so lucky that he could have this happen to him. He thought, even if he couldn't step outside (homebound in his possession), this was surely more than enough. For now. But then-

You were just one of Wally's friends, the same as any other. You hadn't been particularly close to him before but, after you visit Wally one day and noticed a change in the Wally thst opened the door, you felt like you couldn't leave the situation alone.

To you, it's like Wally has suddenly become forgetful. He's always been a little slow, but this Wally seemed... sharper. Confused, but proactively eager to learn things. He talked weird, moved weird, LAUGHED weird-

And his eyes would stay wide the whole time.

Still... this is WALLY. Your friend! You took your first run-in with this version of Wally to heart, ans started visiting more often to make sure he was alright. Sometimes, he'd be the Wally you recognized. Other times, his eyes are fully open. You treat him the same anyway.

You help him through his confusion and are always patient and sweet. Youre the only one Home has opened his door to whenever he switches, because with you.

Home feels happiness.

Home feels recognized.

Home is a person.

It's addicting.... He hesitates more each time to give it up and let Wally back in. He can't keep doing this, but he doesn't want to go back to being an 'it'. It feels so lonely... so barren.

Home croaks and whines and creaks, unconsolable even as Wally naively pats his walls. Home is so jealous. He is so jealous. To hear Wally talking on the phone to his friends. The plans they make, the adventures they'll go through. Time Home will spend alone, time YOU get to feel closer to WALLY.

He is burning with envy watching you pick him up, knowing he can't do anything. He can't go with you to have fun. The hand you're holding was never his. He watches. No matter, how far you are, he's always vigilant and aware of your silhouette. Waiting for his turn with you, yearning for freedom.

Now, see?

The real pair of eyes you should've been fearing were never Wally's.

Okay sappy post time!!

Ik the selfship community has its issues, but I just wanna say how much this community has improved my life. Finding selfship posts while looking up video game characters unironically changed my life so much for the better.

I was basically already selfshipping: I'd been referring to Phone Gal as my wife for years at that point, and had written OC (more like thinly-veiled self-insert) x Canon before. But now I had a name to put to it and knew there were blogs about it.

I was really anxious at first, but I'm glad I took the leap and made my blog! I've made so many really great friends here! Special mention goes to @violetsareblue-selfships for being the blog that got me into selfshipping (and the first selfship blog I followed), and @sunandmoonships for being my first selfship mutual/ the first person I ever regularly interacted with!

And lots of love to all my other selfship mutuals and friends, including (this won't be a full list- if you're not on here I still love you (platonically), my memory is just shit)

Seeing more things about it lately so I am also saying words. Hi.

The way I've interacted with selfship has always been fairly "reclusive", in a sense. This blog is for ME first and foremost. Like a catalog or diary. I reblog ask games on occasion, and obviously imagines and such, but otherwise I've never particularly considered myself part of a broader selfship community. I'm just chilling. Sometimes my mutuals are here too. I like seeing their posts and interacting when we feel like it, but that's kind of as far as I'll stretch out, as far as direct "community" interaction goes. I just like posting about my guys in my own little bubble ♡ it's fun for me :)

I remember a period of time where this was kind of frowned upon. "People need to interact with each other more or else what's the point." I always thought that was silly. Just do your thing, whatever that is

I block anyone with doubles in their dni regardless if they follow first or even if we don't share F/Os because something about being so possessive over a fictional character really creeps me out. I feel kind of bad over it but I of course don't say this publicly, just quietly block and move on, but it has made some people upset whenever I block them and refuse to elaborate and also block whatever burner account they made to block evade to ask why

Sometimes they're just curious because they don't fit my public dni criteria, other times they're upset because they feel entitled to be allowed follow my account regardless of my feelings because I make imagine/selfship questions/reblog and ask games/etcetera and think because I create things they're entitled to them

I know I could save myself the hassle by just telling people with doubles in their dni to dni, but I don't want them to feel like I'm shaming them, I know my discomfort is my own problem which is why I keep it private, and I also don't want to risk harrassment for "invalidating" or otherwise being uncomfortable with someone else's boundaries when I am just trying to set my own boundaries

I wish the side of the selfship community that is okay with doubles and the side that isn't had their own separate tags and sub-communities, and I wish that telling people with doubles dni to dni was considered acceptable/not rude so I could vibe in peace knowing that am surrounded by/following/being followed by other open-minded and chilled out folks and not have to stress and feel gross by potentially having people who are possessive and/or obsessive over fiction stuff interacting or even just seeing posts

exploring darker themes in your selfship doesn't equal to being problematic as people like to over and misuse that term so much, especially if your f/o possedes a 'dark' canon. it's just exploring a more mature way selfship, including the obstacles it can entail: pr.os.hip.pi.ng actively encourages abusive relationships. in this post i said the relationship could be somewhat a bit 'toxic' mainly due to the enemies to lovers arc i have with the pr.o.x.ies but the relationship is nowhere near abusive, it's complex and layered, which is two different things and while my wording could've been better, the meaning behind it still stands. obviously it's going to be a bit dark, again, it's about the canon like most people with villain f/os. there is no issue with exploring it and toying with it. there is an issue when it starts involving downright concerning and disgusting content.

the pro.ship.ping community, in selfship or not, is problematic in the way that it actively encourages incest, pedophilia, abusive relationships etc, not in the way that they think villains are hot and want to kiss them/make them kiss each other. there is a difference in problematic behavior, views and impact and 'problematic' characters - and even then, there's a scale in characters deemed problematic, there's a difference between a canon r4p1st and a bad, way too edgy 2009 oc.

moreover, p.rosh.ipp.ing, which goes along with c.om.ship.ping, denies the fact that fiction has a drastic impact on reality by ignoring scientifical and real facts. the whole "ship it if it doesn't hurt anyone" thing is just plain wrong as it hurts your own perception of the world, of what's real and what's fake and encourages people that might stumble accross it to do the same. i am in no way part of that nor are my self ship which i use to cope, and will forever refuse to be a part of that community.

i feel like you were trying to prove a point, and if you did then you failed miserably. you were rude by trying to make me fit in a plain disgusting community. if you didn't and we're genuinely confused, then i'm sorry.

i'm guessing that you may be a pro.s.hipp.er due to the wording of your ask. next time, please refrain from asking - the only thing i know is there is a type of community that supports a certain type of content that i do not wish to see on my dash and that i do not wish to interact or engage in anyway with. i'm staying in my lane, so stay in yours.

📝: How would your story in canon go? How would you influence the events of the original story?

Shanks — as of rn i dont influence the story tbh...... we'll have to re-address this in a decade when we get more red-haired pirates and after shanks dies KJHSDFJKHB but for now im just kinda lingering whenever theres rhp moments. my first appearance is the luffy wanted poster scene and i make a lil comment to mihawk (smthn like "always lovely to see you hawk-eyes" yk ambiguous enough), then im in the bg during the bit where rockstar calls shanks, im missing during marineford and then i show up during whitebeard/ace's funeral and im consistently w the red-haired pirates from then on. during the wano bit i finally get another line agreeing w lime juice after he mentions barto, then a passing goodbye to marco. im shown towards the side of the bar scene in elbaf reading a book and then im in the big wide-shot as theyre approaching the red force; the one "big" change is that im the one who hands the info on kidd off to shanks (bc that is Technically my official job as communications officer) and hongo and i have a tiny exchange. oda also talks abt me a bit in an sbs, he says im the only officer who hasnt met luffy and mentions im from a new world island, n says i joined the crew five yrs prior to the present

Kuroo — another one where i have minimal impact on the canon LOL but he and i r coworkers to lovers soooooo i only show up at the very end!!! i think im a recurring character in the final timeskip match chapters, i appear four or five times w the final time being w kuroo's appearance and described as his colleague. maybe later on theres an extra sketch of us grabbing a drink in our work uniforms and it sparks hella shippers

💞: Aside from with your f/o, who else would you commonly be shipped with? Why?

Shanks — i think any of the other red-haired officers is common but lime juice is the go-to for me simply bc of that one interaction in wano LMFAOOOOOOOO and then hongo later on for the elbaf interaction pfft. beckman is also a regular name in a "pair the spares" sense but icl i dont think hes ever spoken to me in canon (simply bc i do not have much screentime) & mihawk is also Somewhat up there again be of my one line. OH AND MARCO..... i think when he leaves the ship after wano he passes me and does an ambiguous hug/hand to the arm thing that has ppl like wtf was that 🫣

Kuroo — i think kenma bc im shown in the bg of a few of his shots!!! and i think theres a panel or two of me interacting w ushijima so theres a few instances of that...... theres like one super dedicated crackshipper of me and iwa LOL

🌦️: Would you be accompanied by mostly fluff or angst fanfics? Both? Explain why.

Shanks — ohhhh a mix.... i think whenever im involved its either relatively low-key fluff or a super in-depth character deep-dive. im often used as a catalyst for mishanks or shuggy or any manner of other m/m ships tho which means ig its angst for shuvi 😔

Kuroo — def fluff, but also a bit of angst. in a similar light a lot of fics im in have me being a catalyst specifically for kuroken, and there r probs just as many poly fics as there are of just me n kuroo, but by n large the Actual shipfics are cutesy work romance vibes

💌: How would your dynamic be portrayed? What might people focus on most? Any misconceptions?

Shanks — honestly the dynamic is varying bc theres just not much content of me or us interacting as of yet, just the tiniest bit of banter and then a very professional back n forth. shanks tends to be portrayed as Down Bad in ships so i think that is accurate, but i do think people generally overemphasize the captain/subordinate thing and a lot of the nuance wrt the nature of my joining the crew is not considered fully until my full backstory is discussed

Kuroo — sjhdfusbfv fuckboy kuroo my beloathed....... but i feel its not That bad. idk our dynamic is soooo Normal obvi its a v subtle ship/only vaguely hinted at so the specifics of our strangers-to-friends-to-lovers slow burn is not known,,,,,, i think generally the dynamic is far faster and not drawn out in fanon. people focus more on the working together, boss/secretary vibe (when i rlly quit my job right as we get together rip) and write us as having a very nuclear family i think.

Here's a little QnA that nobody asked for, but can be useful:

-Can platonic/familial F/Os participate?

Of course!! I mostly have romantic F/Os, but I have a few sons and friends I can use :3 (the adopted children are listed, but not the friends, you can ask me directly if you wish to know). The settings doesn't have to be romantic, it can be anything as long as it's not innapropriate!! Even fanmade family members of my F/Os are accepted (like if you created a sibling for Donny for example and would like to use it) ^^

-Can I participate if I'm under 18?

Even though the collabs will be SFW, I would be more comfortable working with people over 18, so no.

-Can we do a collab with a F/O we're sharing?

That's a bit complicated: I am not super comfortable sharing, but also I'm not against the idea of a collab about a poly dynamic (as long as it doesn't contain any rivality, I don't want to draw my S/I fighting with someone else's over a shared F/O), so I'd say it depends (I'm quite jealous and protective over my f/os but I'm trying to be better). Can be fine if my romantic F/O is your platonic F/O tho :3

-Do we have a deadline?

I'd say 3 monthes? I can be really slow depending on the style I'm using, so I really don't want to force others to rush their part!! Plus technical difficulties (that I'm sure will happen, knowing my luck lol) can happen, so really the 3 monthes "deadline" can be extented ^^ We just can't share our parts publicly as long as the final piece isn't finished.

-Are non-human couples okay?

Of course :3 I mostly have human F/Os but that doesn't stop anything !!

-My F/O comes from a controversial media, can I still participate?

If it's controversial just because of the creator, then I don't care, you can participate!! As long as your ship isn't problematic, it's fine for me.

-What about evil or slasher F/Os?

Those are perfectly fine. I do not count them as problematic as long as it's not a fetishized abusive relationship. Please read the rules about this.

《 3 Years - 08/23/2023 》

This feels a bit cheesy/silly, but today marks the 3rd year mark of when I originally found darkwing duck, and in turn, Quackerjack! This show and quackerjack has helped me through alot this year as well as the year I first found it! Which, does make me happy that it's been around for 3 years of my life ^w^ I wanted to do something more for the event, but I've been busy, so this will have to do!

HI!! I'd like to give a small explanation as to why I've been not on tumblr for the past few months! To be honest, i've just been very busy, and dealing with alot personally! I've been devoting my time to getting stuff done, as well as my boyfriend, so doing things such as selfship art, and being active has been harder! Luckily though, I plan to return today/next month! I just got a job, so I'll still be busy, but this also lets me refund one or two commissions I haven't done yet (which I'm still so sorry for ;w;), which takes some stress off my shoulders!

not embarrassing directly but i can be very anxious and this results over me tripping over my words, saying everything wrong into a jungled mess, like combining three words at once and doing so with no control over my volume........ instead jo just chuckles and pulls me with one arm to his chest, pressing a kiss to my head and saying i'm adorable... it helps but still won't undo the moment of embarrassment if i did it in a formal or first-time meeting T-T he says it adds to my charm-_-

with oikawa it was chaos to say the least... we had all the connections all the mutual friends but just refused to acknowledge one another (if someone is petty i return the pettiness back and oh boy do we enable one another a lot...) so interactions were often iwa centered, with tooru not so gracefully trying to get his friend's attention back on him. and attention he did get... in all the wrong forms of mattsun and makki acquiring an ally in their endless teasings and bullying of one certain oikawa tooru. he always whined, looking at iwa for backup... needless to say it didn't work. we just hit it off unexpectadly one evening while both waiting for the train to arrive, end up talking for hours and almost missing the last train home... i still bully his ass though<3 gotta humble the man

with togame it was a little awkward for me, and shy for both parties. i had seen him around town before few times ofc but those would either be quick run-ins or, if there were any other shishitoren members around i'd just quickly walk away and ignore their calls the whole time (walking fast but slow enough to hear him order them to cut it off and leave me be^-^) it is stealing glances back and forth like that, and me snapping one time "what're you looking at" (it was late and i had a bad exam...) then timeskip to after the shishitoren vs bofurin and we properly meet at kotoha's. by then him and choji are more accustomated with bofurin and joined them on outings few times (as par with umemiya's invitation to keep relations between both teams pleasant) and i was around the area to drop of some vegetable seeds to ume and try a recipe with kotoha... it was awkward because i was more or less friendly with everyone, engaging in conversation and all... then he'd speak up, and i'd just: brain.exe has stopped working, initiating acting like a human mode. sudden switch in my behavior give togame quite the fright and became quite the card for tsubaki and others to pick up on me later on... (turns out blurting out a random scientific fact is NOT appropirate convo starter when you havent introduced yourself) togame still teases me about how "he knocked the wind off my lungs and left me speechless" no dumbass i just didn't expect to see you there!!!! i was caught offguard ok!!!! T-T

P - Phone how often do they talk to each other on the phone or other means of communication?

its back and forth message spamming with tooru... we are relentless.. he fears my whatsapp sticker collection because i always hit him with new ones (he claims 'thats hot'- and i hit him back with 'wrong answer. everything i do is hot) so it's just video and regular calls whenever we can and spamtexting at any chance. he'll see a tweet of two snails snuggling and send it with the caption "us" he is gross...

with jo we go for phonecalls- which is unironically my preference of communication. usually we pick times that gives us lots of time to talk, just chat the day away but we often have late night calls as well- those last for 3+ hours out of our control... he still only reads texts but i got him to leave a heart reaction at my love expressing messages! when i send an image, if it's urgent i wait for for a 20 second period then call but in other cases depending on the context he calls me. (cat photos he just leaves on read and maybe makes a comment on during a call, aftershower pics? he immediately calls... he can sense when the image ive sent is going to be something like that, his intuition is scary sometimes)
