here's the interview, and there are some really good hits out of it that really reshaped my approach to how I write, but this part of one of his answers specifically is what I keep in mind when I get to editing

In writing the story though I never for a moment entertained the possibility that what was happening to Jack wasn’t real. I always wrote, from my perspective, that everything that was happening to him was absolutely real.

I struggle a lot with the impulse to reign in my own ideas to try and make them more package-able, even though I'll ultimately drop the story from my creative shelf because I'm no longer interested in working on it when I do that. later, I'll usually think back to the above quote, and I'll add back in whatever I cut out that I thought was too much, and ultimately find that makes the story I want to tell what it needs to be. be unflinching, etc.

Hi, anon! I condone all manners of nosiness here. It's not that I don't like him per se (the note's actually a ref to his book The Great Divorce) but he and I are increasingly ideologically incompatible. It's great to see fans modernizing the Narnia series, addressing its problems, and reimagining it to be more inclusive and a safer space for queer people and poc. With that said it has more foundational issues built into the fabric of the story- particularly themes of power that I can't vibe with. I still really love the series personally, it just got to a point where I began to feel icky posting about it online. Probably some day I'll feel better about it again at which point I'll update my pinned post lol
