like i can still feel the same bewilderment as when i first heard tattoo after already hearing that it's favored to win. sometimes even if it feels weird that the winner is almost set in stone, you can hear the song and be like, that makes sense. but here i just think it was loreen being loreen~~~~ someone with a global hit, a 'legitimising' force (in the eyes of the music industry). it wasn't even the best jury-kind of song this year. the juries are just too insular and got too swept up in the loreen hype.

one thing i still genuinely do not understand is why all of these teen shows set in high school aren't just set in college instead. when i think of all the shows i watched in my teens/early 20s they all have the exact same problems and all of those problems could be solved if they were just. set in college instead?????????? actors don't look 16?? that's cool bc they're in college so they can reasonably be anywhere from 18-24. parents seemingly non-existent or disappear for episodes at a time??? nbd all the characters moved out for college so they don't see their parents that often. characters going to endless parties, having unlimited access to alcohol, and sleeping with a different person every ep??? sure makes a lot more sense if they're in college!!!! characters randomly having free time in the middle of the day??? everyone's college schedule is different!
like!!! there are so many shows that completely lose the run of themselves by s3 bc their characters start off 16 and now they're supposed to be graduating and all the plans they had and colleges they wanted to go to now need to Go Away bc they need a reason for them all to still stay in the same setting which means basically messing up 2-3 seasons worth of character development. and i just cannot understand how none of these tv execs thought, hey maybe if we make them freshman in college this would make more sense bc we'd at least have a plan for 4 seasons and even if we reach graduation we could still feasibly transition them into their career paths without disrupting the existing dynamic??????????? teenagers would still watch that, the demographic wouldn't change???????? college is still a tumultuous time where people are growing and learning and making mistakes and having new experiences?????????? where are all the shows set in college where are they?????????????????????????

It's actually crazy how in the first half of JJK it was talked about as having one of the strongest female casts ever seen in shounen and then it pivots so hard in the second half that it's a running joke in the fandom where we expect any woman in JJK to have their potential as characters wasted/fully killed off. Another Gege Akutami clown moment.

I wish more people understood that Sega / Sonic Team carefully scrutinizes and approves every single issue of the IDW comics before they get printed and release, down to characters' facial expressions.
This isn't like the wild west of the 90s where people like Penders were allowed to do whatever they wanted. Scripts and storyboards are sent to Sega for approval multiple times for every issue. And the IDW team has to make the requested changes before it can print. One example that has been specifically mentioned was when Amy hugged Sonic in the "Chao Races and Badnik Bases" arc. Evan originally drew a little blush on Sonic's cheeks. Sega said "no" because Sonic doesn't show that much vulnerable emotion, and so Evan had to revise the panel to remove the blush. The oversight is that finite. Absolutely NOTHING gets put in the IDW comics that is against Sega or Sonic Team's ideas for their characters and brands. Like it or hate it, but that's simple fact.
So when you hear, "Sega wants to bring the comics and games (and potentially the shows) under the same canon umbrella" — yeah, it makes sense! Because while Sonic Team might not be crafting the comics themselves, they ARE overseeing their creation and are approving every story beat and facial expression contained within. They know exactly what is happening in the comics, are actively working to keep them in line with the current vision for the Sonic brand, etc. If they're working to keep them in line with their current vision for the games anyway, why NOT tie them all together? Especially when the comics have helped bring a new generation of kids to the franchise (similarly to how the movies did) while also being compliant with the games (unlike the movies). It just makes sense.
I understand that people who are perhaps more used to stories about what the Archie comics were like in the 90s might have reservations. But for good or for ill, the IDW comics are a completely different beast, despite having a lot of the same crew. I'm not saying Sega are overbearing evil overlords who don't let the IDW team have any fun (personally I think it's clear the team has a lot of fun working on the comics), because hell, they let a zombie pandemic arc happen. But I am saying that nothing that happens in the comics happens without Sega's express approval, right down to whether Sonic is allowed to blush when Amy hugs him or not. You still don't have to like the comics, everyone has different tastes and that's cool. But just know that the comics are Sega-approved panel by panel, so if you have an issue, take it up with them. Ultimately, they're the ones who get final say.

Steven in SUF is so hit or miss for me. I genuinely do like his entire struggle of trying to figure out who he is outside of helping people. I love his struggle to connect with other humans, how alienated he feels from them compared to the gems. The first half of SUF was something i actually enjoyed because of this.

Ok but Nate Moore is so valid for saying that Atlantis is vague in the comics, like yeah it is, I’ve spent years bitching about how we STILL don’t have 1 main background/history/lore for Atlantis, and how we’ve had to pick up bits and pieces for any kind of history or even cultural aspects that wasn’t all coding, and just general ocean stuff, like I know everyone hates to talk about the Teen Namor series but honestly it showed more of the common people of Atlantis trading/fishing/LIVING their lives. We’ve had like 4 or 5 different “This is how the Great Cataclysm happened or this is how the Atlanteans evolved in the ocean” story lines that all differ from one another.

God the sticker sheet is going to be just as atrocious as Job Job’s isn’t it?
Y’know, why put in the effort of designing original Yõkai when you could just jerk yourself off and shove references up the wazoo? It’s not like doing this strips the game of it’s own identity and eventually everything you make is going to be so malnourished from the constant coprophagy that you’re going to have nothing going for you. No, because why should you try anymore when you could pander?

something to consider: you can also subscribe to tumblr blogs via RSS - or at least you can if they have a custom theme enabled; not sure if it works on blogs that don't. if i unfollowed some blogs on tumblr itself to follow them via RSS instead, i could still click through to the original post to interact if i wanted to!
but. i always find it jarring to click on a link in an email or an RSS feed and be catapulted into my browser (i use thunderbird for email on desktop so it's a separate application). don't ask me why, it just bothers me. plus you can't right-click on the link and make decisions like opening it in a new tab, opening it in a specific type of tab etc. (i use container tabs a lot)
so maybe i should use an RSS reader that is also in my browser??? like feedly (except not feedly because i hate it), or a browser add-on. but i am already firefox add-ons georg and keep trying to use fewer of them 😳
