Wish list for CBS ghosts season 4

Make Patience a recurring antagonist for at least 2-3 episodes before that story gets resolved and she gets regulated to a background character.

Patience character to be 50% good religious farm girl, 50% crazy witch. She also needs to have a wicked(ly cool) ghost power

No Nigel for a while. I do not like him. He did a lot of things in his and Isaac's relationship that are textbook abusive partner behavior.

I think it is about time for Jay's restaurant to start up, and I would like that to actually become pretty successful/profitable. Mostly because I would like Sam and Jay to have a bit more disposable income to do things around the manor, and I know the B&B is unlikely to become super busy next season (unless the show is ending , which I really do not want).

The difference in treatment between the above ground ghosts and basement ghosts to be addressed. I know after season 3 that they aren't going to move them all up stairs. But it would be nice if Sam and Jay could like furbish the basement , and then more Basement ghosts than just Nancy got invited to come upstairs for games or discussion.

Just to be clear I still want Nancy to keep making her frequent visits up stairs and hang out with the man 8. I just also would not mind seeing Stuart or another nameless basement ghost standing or walking by in the background on the occasion.

Explore Pete's power more. He does not need to hop on a plane and go across the country or anything, but let him keep going out into town and having adventures. Also let him keep going on dates with other random ghosts outside of the house.

I know that Pete&Alberta will probably happen at some point in season 4. The thing is though while that ship was cute in season 1, the way the ship was handled in season 2 soured it like milk to me. Both characters need a lot of development, and separate explorations of what they want out of a relationship, before I can ship them again.

H-Money is still a couple I kinda like. I do not expect them to get back together in season 4 (Please not another season that is fully devoted to coupling up all the character), but I would like them to start scheming together again. Let them figure out how to interact together as friends, and build a stronger foundation to eventually, in season 5 maybe, try again.

I have heard people suggest that Pete's power could maybe be extend to getting the other ghosts through the barrier if they are like holding onto Pete's hand. I want this. Now I know Sass will want to visit a Pizza Hut, and Issac a dinosaur museum, but I would say the most important thing to do with that would be to take Thor and Flower over to the Farnsby manor to visit Bjorn and his girlfriend Judy. It would also be cool if there was a lesbian ghost living there they could set up Nancy with. Since Nisaac is on a "respite" and queer representation (preferably healthy queer representation) is important.

Everyone remember in season 2 when we learned about Flower's super protective, formally MIA, army vet brother : Rob. You remember how the show's staff said they would love to have Rob come to the B&B for a visit, and were already considering actors who could play him? I want this episode. Also if you cannot directly tell Rob his sister is a ghost on the property, then can Trevor or Alberta use their powers to help Flower send a message to Rob. To say that she still loves him. I cannot deal that both siblings spent like 50 years thinking the other hated them when neither did. It is to sad.

It would be cool if we could also have Ira visit once too. I know Flower did not love him like she did Michael or does Thor, but he was still someone who was a big part of her life for a while, and knowing her cannonly had a large impact on his. Maybe we find that while he has done charities in her memory, trauma over watching her be killed by a bear has also lead him to sponsor bear hunts or poaching. Flower is horrified. Then Sam and Jay have to spend his visit looking for a way to convince him that is not what Flower would have wanted.

Four standard episodes for each season are a Halloween episode, an episode where Bela visits, one where Stephanie wakes up, and one where Crash appears and is slightly relevant. I have no idea what to do for an episode with Crash, but for the others

-Home theater night for ghosts and guests on the night Stephanie wakes up, complete with all the drama of set up and shenanigans that going to the movies encores.

- Bela is broken up with Eric, she does not even like him. This time her and Jay's parents come with her for the visit. Bela wants all the latest gossip surrounding the ghosts, but they have to tip toe around the parents. Jay's dad does not fully support the B&B even without the knowledge that it is haunted, and Sam does not want to give her mother in law another reason to suspect that she might be crazy.

Owning back to the "Can Pete take the other ghosts off the property" theory, can Thomas Woodstone be a ghost who died visiting a neighbors property. We have no reason to see Elias again since he has decided to stay put in Hell. But Thomas reappearing could be interesting for both Hetty and Alberta. If he does show up though I want the twist to be that he is actually severally cognitively impaired (think Lenny from oMaM)... I mean the man was from an inbred family, played with lead based toys as a baby, had a cocaine addict mom, and a father who was a lot of things. He could not have been all there. Also address more on if Earl ever actually cared for any of the people he was two timing (again development that needs to happen to make Alberta want to go from dating an Earl to a Pete).

A Sasappis based episode that is not his death story. I feel like he needs at least one more episode exploring what his life alive was like, to be appropriately gutted when we learn about his secret death.

Actually maybe we can hold off on Sass's death and Hetty's ghost power until season 5. let's keep the element of mystery in the show for a little longer.

Dorcas Brinley, she/her, British version, Julian Fawcett ship, Karen Gillan FC. A baker who died in the 90’s during a wedding being held at Button House which she had made the desserts for, having been stabbed by a coworker who was actually meaning to kill someone else. An incredibly shy sweetheart of a lady who, as her ghost power, can make any Living who walks through her smell their favourite dessert. Very much an opposites-attract couple with Julian, but she brings out his softer side and he brings her out of her shell. Pretty withdrawn and doesn’t interact much with anyone else at first, but eventually becomes really good friends with Mary and Pat.

Elizabeth “Betty” Jones, she/her, American version, Hetty Woodstone ship, Lana Parilla FC. A former fifties housewife who was staying overnight at Woodstone Mansion after leaving her cheating husband, only to fall down the stairs and die the next morning and find a group of ghosts standing over her. Has mild gravity manipulation for her ghost power, but she can’t really do more than make small objects hover a few inches above their surfaces. Eventually reveals that she’s bisexual and was in love with her best friend from life, but remains very scared of relationships after her husband cheated on her. Eventually Sam and Isaac team up to set her up with Hetty after they realize the two of them have feelings for each other, and they become a really sweet couple. Very sweet and a bit of a mother hen since she never had children of her own (which was a big reason her bastard husband said he cheated on her), but also has an amazing dead-eyed disapproving look that is Trevor and Thor are deeply afraid of.

Rachel “Rocky” Drake, she/her, American version, Flower Montero ship, Bex Taylor-Klaus FC. Lead guitarist in a Riot Grrl band back in the 90’s, who were staying at Woodstone Mansion the night before a gig in the city when a chandelier fell on Rocky and killed her. Gained pyrokinesis as a ghost power, and loves using to mess with the candles in the mansion and help Thor play with the lights. The bane of Hetty’s existence since she’s basically the opposite of a “proper lady,” and spends most of her time whacking Trevor upside the head when he says something douchey. Very fierce and sarcastic and usually wearing a scowl, basically Flower’s opposite, but has had a crush on her since she first saw her, so of course Isaac, Alberta, and Sam team up to get them together.

Åse Helvigsdottir, she/her, British version, Mary Guppy ship, Kathryn Winnick FC. A young Viking woman, and specifically a völva (meaning a woman who practiced magic) in training, who wound up on the grounds of Button House with her magical mentor when her group of Vikings was ransacking a nearby village, only to get left behind when they saw a venomous snake, and Åse got bitten and died. The second-oldest ghost after Robin, and loves tormenting the others with the fact that she knows every sordid detail of how they died. Generally every bit the stoic and threatening Viking, with a biting tongue and no tolerance for nonsense (especially Julian’s), and loves “practicing” with the weapons she had on her when she died, but also has a good deal of compassion, a soft side, and a mischievous streak. Can’t actually do any magic, it’s mostly old pagan rituals with the supplies she had on her when she died, but still practices for the sake of remembering her life. As a ghost power, can make living people see a brief hallucination of a hissing snake when they walk through her.

Leah Abramson, she/her, British version, Thomas Thorne ship, Rachel Brosnahan FC. A manager and emcee for a small band in the fifties, who were invited to perform at Button House during an outdoor party one night, when it started to rain and an exposed wire from the electric guitar sparked when she was handing it to the player, electrocuting and killing her. Thomas, of course, becomes infatuated with her as soon as she joins the ghosts, but it fades after a while, only to come back after Alison helps him realize that he never really stopped feeling that way about Leah. She’s your classic fifties lady who’s used to the stage, outgoing and friendly and with a quick wit, but can also be quick-tempered due to often being ignored in her job for being a woman when she was alive. For her ghost power, can briefly summon tiny clouds that produce lightning, though it takes a lot of effort for her to do it the way Julian can struggle to touch things in the living world.

Oswald “Oz” Martinez, he/him, American version, Pete Martino ship, Pedro Pascal FC. A carpenter who was always being hired to make minor repairs around the house by the old owner before Sam and Jay in the seventies, mainly because she was having problems with her husband and liked to watch him work. Died when he was too distracted by recently coming out to his parents and being rejected by them to fasten a beam properly and it fell onto his head, leaving him as a ghost with a big cut on his temple. Gets a crush on Pete almost instantly when he joins the ghosts of Woodstone Mansion, but doesn’t say a word for years and years because he takes the fear he got from being rejected by his parents with him until Sam and Isaac help him through it and to confess. A bit of the rugged and closed-off carpenter stereotype, but still very caring and compassionate and loves animals. Technically Pete’s bi awakening, even if there’s not a whole lot to do about attraction as a ghost, with so few options.

Valeria “Ria” Cortez, she/her, American version, Trevor Lefkowitz ship, Rachel Zegler FC. An aspiring country singer in her life in the seventies, who was performing a show at Woodstone Mansion when she was abruptly murdered by a musical rival shooting her from the crowd. Becomes a ghost in a blood-stained dress with a bullet hole in the abdomen that she’s really self-conscious about, but when she and Trevor get together he helps her see that she’s beautiful the way she is. A fierce Southern gal with a biting wit and a whole arsenal of Kentucky slang sayings, and is often at odds with Hetty due to Ria being a staunch feminist. Constantly singing and dancing around the house, which makes her very close with Alberta as a result and can often annoy Sam and the other ghosts.

Beatrix “Trixie” Saint, she/her, British version, Kitty Higham ship, Emerald Fennell FC. A nurse on the military base the Captain ran in Button House during the war, and died only a few months before he did when she uncovered a German spy in the unit, only to be strangled by him before she could tell the Captain. A bit withdrawn and sad as a ghost where she was bright and friendly in life because of the trauma of how she died, but slowly becomes more and more involved with the rest of the ghosts and their shenanigans after Alison and Mike arrive and Alison becomes able to see them. Was never exactly shy about being a lesbian when she was alive, as much as she could have been when it was illegal, and finally comes out to everyone after the wedding in season two, which actually helps Kitty realize that the prince she’s always dreamed about may have actually been a princess the whole time. Also something of a daughter figure to the Captain along with Kitty, which prompts a very funny outburst from him about it being “incest” when he finds Trixie and Kitty together.

Jonathan Dastur, he/him, British version, poly Captain/Pat Butcher ship, Dev Patel FC. A businessman from the Regency Era whose father was originally from India, he was well-known among high society in life and died only a few years after Thomas, at the first party held at Button House since his death, after eating some poisoned food that was actually meant for somebody else. Very practical and business-minded, and has never been very good at having fun, but slowly comes around to it more the longer he spends with the other ghosts. Initially pretty close with the Captain because they’re both very serious, but starts to withdraw when he realizes the man has feelings for Pat, only to realize that he likes both of them and they like him too. Very much wishes he could be friends with Mike, because he likes how very much himself the man is, and is forever disappointed that he can’t just whack him on the head hard enough to make him see ghosts, too.

Lola Wen, she/her, American version, Thorfinn ship, Stephanie Hsu FC. A former stripper who, in the nineties, was invited with some of her coworkers to a party at Woodstone Mansion for a more “private show” for David Woodstone and his buddies. Didn’t even get more than her shoes off before she fell off the table she’d been dancing on, hitting her head and breaking her neck. Spent the next thirty or so years wandering listlessly around the Woodstone Mansion grounds, somewhat reluctant to interact with the other ghosts after Hetty had harshly judged her on their first meeting, but slowly gets drawn into the found family of it all once Sam and Jay arrive. Sort of cold and withdrawn at first glance as a result of her job and all the stigma she’s faced because of it, but once you get to know her, she can be funny and bright and endlessly loyal. As her ghost power, can make living people break into dancing whenever they walk through her.

5. tremily - listen i know i don’t ship them personally and that they’re kind of having a falling out but let’s go a few episodes back where ONC could actually write healthy female-male friendships. if they wanted any guy and girl to fall in love and get together off-screen, it shouldn’t have been anyone but tremily. emily actually listens to trevor and vice versa, and it’s evident they care for each other. trevor choosing derek over emily is like the girl in a love triangle choosing the guy that knows no boundaries and is an asshole over the kind guy who actually likes her. also they’re queer4queer and i think that is beautiful. they could have such a complex romance or just relationship in general if only ONC knew how to write

4. gabellie/jaiden - the ‘vanilla’ canon couples are tied for fourth because they’re kind of similar to me. they had some level of build-up and miscommunication (jaiden being enemies to lovers and gabellie having that thing that everyone forgot because it didn’t ultimately matter in DCAS because ONC forgot they should care for their wlw couple and just gave us mlm drama) and they’re like. idk at the same point in their relationship now. been together for years, they’re happy & healthy. they’re good for each other. i wish they had more build-up or depth, but hey, ONC would find a way to ruin that too so it’s whatever

3. jajakeden - i find the concept of jake not only getting over tom and starting to date aiden, but also having an enemies to lovers arc with james, hilarious. jajakeden is genuinely so funny to picture. i hope they are happy forever

2. grettabby - i LOVE grett and gabby’s two episode friendship. i wish they were actually fleshed out more and given some time as friends to interact more but i’ll take what i can get. i think they’re very good together and i hope the finale offers us some crumbs of them in the stands or something. i love that they finally became friends after all that teasing and hoping and i am pretty content with what we got. could’ve kissed on the mouth too but hey there’s still time /hj

1. jakeden - i mean. you expected this. as soon as they started getting along i made them by banner on this account and went crazy on my main. idk what it is about them, but they had chemistry way more than the majority of actual canon ships. i think about the way they interacted in eps 12-13 and how they hugged awkwardly in the lie detector episode. how they helped each other despite everything. how jake grew as a person and actually showed it mostly due to aiden. how aiden genuinely prefers jake over ally. how far they’ve come. idk man they just... they deserve better tbh

Yeah, when it comes to Eric I don’t like how it feels like Bela is essentially being forced into a relationship with him because of what happened on Christmas.

Yeah him dying was messed up but it wasn’t Bela’s fault. Sasappis is the one who came up with the idea and Trevor, Bela and Eric all agreed to it. And even then no one thought Eric would die from it (though admittedly they should’ve anticipated someone dying from electrocution).

And yeah Bela said while Eric was out that she would’ve dated him, but given the fact that Eric lied to her afterwards about seeing ghosts, because he was insecure, and Bela is still crushing on Trevor, even if she’s not actively pursuing it, it feels like the relationship isn’t really working out.

As for Eric, while he is not exactly a “nice guy”, especially compared to ones I’ve seen irl and in other pieces of media, he’s still a simp. He does all these things for Bela because he’s in love with her, but if she doesn’t feel the same way and he truly cared about her, he would take a hint, back off, and simply be content with being at most friends with her.

That said, when it comes to Bela and Trevor, might be unpopular opinion, I don’t think a relationship can work out between them, mostly since he’s dead and she’s alive. And even if Trevor was still alive, he’d be 50 something years old, much older than her, and probably have a partner already. Though in an au where he was a living 30 year old born in 1990, then I’d say go for it.

This is my biggest issue with Bela/Eric relationship. In the moment, saying that she loves him makes sense, he just did this thing that caused his life and it's very emotional. But it also establishes that they got together because she feels like she owes him. She can't break up with him unless something major happens because he could just be like "I DIED for you" and guilt her into it.

The fact that he lies about seeing ghosts and Jam still encourage her to be with him says a lot too. If she is questioning the relationship, she has no one, apparently, to turn to because the closest people to her would guilt her into it. It's not a great basis for a relationship.

The fact that he didn't come to Christmas and she asks about Trevor suggests that she's still not all that into Eric but everyone else likes him so she just accepts him.

Now for Trevor/Bela.

While I do love the ship and would like to play with it in fanfic, I agree it probably wouldn't work out.

The reason that they're still hung up on each other isn't just mutual attraction, it's because the relationship wasn't allowed to fizzle out on its own. It was shut down.

Logically, they wouldve continued online, Bela would've asked to meet him, find out he's a ghost, and maybe they could have tried / maybe not, but it would have fallen apart if and when Bela gets tired of not being able to see him or be with him. Maybe being IN Eric would have given them the opportunity to talk about where they could actually go from there (after getting the horny out). I think they both knew it was just a way to get the residual feelings out. But they didn't get that so they keep having these feelings.

As I said with the last episode, I strongly think it's a what if thing. They've never gotten to address their connection or what almost happened, they've never gotten to address what could have been or what they would have been for those couple of days, and so it's a question mark that makes them wonder.

So do I think they would have worked out? Probably not. Do I want them to? Could be fun. Do I think the show will? Nah. Is it fun to play with? Yes.

As for AUs, I could see Trevor being into his hot secretary or maybe he divorces at 50 and meets her. Age gap relationships can work. Especially in fanfic. I would also love Trevor born in the 90s. That would be fun.

The Top/Bottom Thing

Okay, I need to vent about something. Because it really annoys me. You do not need to agree with me, but this is my blog, so I can vent about it all I want.

I hate how a lot of fandom stuff clearly assigns queer ships the "top/bottom" dynamic. I hate it so much. Because for the most part, it just tends to enforce heteronormative standards. Especially when we see who gets to be the top and who gets to be the bottom. Because, spoileralert, most of the time this is completely and utterly based on who is the more feminine and the more masculine between the characters.

Let's put a pin in that, because I want to talk about something else first.

*clears throat* You folks are aware that a lot of queer people switch positions, right? Sure, there are some that prefer one thing over the other, but in general a lot of queer relationships do not have "the top" and "the bottom". This is true for both gay and lesbian relationships. (And while we are on it: Some gay men do not like anal sex. I know, shocking, right?)

The reason this is so popular with fan related stuff (and also non-fandom female oriented mlm original fiction), really is that it kinda enforces heteronormative relationship dynamics.

A lot of queer people in same-sex relationships - especially of the millennia and older generations - know the question of: "But who in your relationship is the man and who is the woman?" Because straight people cannot imagine a relationship in which the partners are eye to eye.

In earlier queer anime/manga fandom we still had the idea of uke and seme. In which the uke was the girl in every way imaginable. It often looked something like this:

You had the big, masculine seme, and the soft, feminine, petit uke. In some manga it went so far, that the uke was even drawn like a girl. They tended to be like girls - just without breasts. It was also one of the main reasons for a lot of gay men in Japan very much despising yaoi, keeping very much with their own gay manga genre, bara.

Now, admittedly by now this has mellowed out a lot in yaoi manga. Newer yaois tend to have way less physical difference between the uke and the seme. While often we still have the scenario that the seme is more powerful and influencial, at least the uke is no longer "a girl".

Still, this dynamic then also got duplicated on fanfictions at the time. Basically fandom usually decided (especially with anime fandoms) that within a gay ship one was the uke and one was the seme. So in the fanfictions that followed, any canon characterisation would be ignored in favor of making the seme toxic masculine and the uke a little damsel in distress, who would cry a lot.

Now, most of fandom has grown out of this phase (thank God), and uke and seme has mostly been replaced by the idea of top and bottom, which usually tends to be way less extreme in the depiction. But... the general issue is still there, right?

Because... people still kinda subconsciously enforce the idea of a heteronormative relationship with queer ships.

For those who usually do not engage with this, quickly let me explain: The idea of Top and Bottom is about, who is the "giving" and who is the "receiving" part within a relationship. The bottom is the one, who gets penetrated, the top is the one who penetrates, to overly simplify this. But also generally it also kinda means, that the "top" tends in most stories be the one who holds the control or more control within the sexual scene. This is especially a big thing with male on male smut, where a lot of stories male it clear that one of the two characters in anal sex is the one who gets fucked, with the other one doing the fucking.

And most of the time this is very much based on who of the ship is the more outwardly masculine and who is more feminine. And yes, this even holds true for sapphic ships. Let me talk about some of my own ships, so you can see what I mean, alright?

Alucard/Trevor (Castlevania) is probably the least strong on this one. While a lot of fanwork has Alucard as the "bottom" - you know, the long haired, rather androgynous twink - his femininity clearly is a bit cancelled out by being half-vampire. So there is in fact a lot of stuff where he gets to be "the top". But still, there is a definitive tendency to have him as the bottom.

Hector/Isaac (Castlevania) is one, where I literally have never once seen a fic with Hector topping. Admittedly, I can understand it with them in so far, that Hector is not only feminine, but also clearly shown to be submissive within the show. So both things kinda go into one another. But, you know... While I have him be the submissive one and passive one more often, I do make a point of switching it around a bit. (And it should be noted: I have not found a single fic outside of my own, that even adress the fact that Isaac might actually not want to do anal sex, because the Qur'an is very clear on the topic of it being a taboo.)

Mizrak/Olrox (Castlevania: Nocturne) to me is probably the most offensive one in regards of Castlevania gay ships. Because while still fairly new, I only so far have seen Olrox as the bottom. Because of course the more feminine one, with a very masculine partner, has to be the bottom. *eye roll* Which in their case does so clearly just not even have any other possible explanation rather than "the masculine and the feminine". I doubly hate this, because this does play into a lot of racist ideas about indigenous men, but I will not go into that now. Just... why?

Joe/Cherry Blossom (SK8) is another one, were one partner is very masculine and one is very feminine in their appearance. And of course... this translates to like 90% of the fandom having Joe top and Cherry bottom. *sighs* I can't even...

Viktor/Jayce (Arcane) are a bit different, as neither of them is very feminine. Buuuut of course Jayce is still the more masculine between the two of them, so... yeah, you know it.

And again, this is even true for sapphic ships. I had people being very upset at me writing CaitVi a little kinky with a submissive Vi and a dominant Caitlyn. Because again, Caitlyn is more feminine, Vi more musculine. So oft course people want the relationship dynamic to reflect this...

And that... is exactly my point.

See, when I brought this up in fandom spaces, the answers I got were like: "Well, I just think that is their sexual preference." But of course not a single person could answer me, why that was. Why they think the more feminine (within a western understanding of this, mind you) would be the one who would prefer bottoming.

And that is without - again - going into the fact that not all gay people will have or enjoy anal sex and frankly, I find it unimaginative, how in so much gay fiction, anal sex gets depicted as the end-all-be-all.

I mean, I will openly admit that, yes, this does not only hold true for women writing gay fiction. Because there is a lot of historical baggage in this regard within the gay community itself. Because, yes, this was something explicitly forbidden by a lot of religion. Because, yes, this also is the one way (well, with the exception of 69) for gay man to have sex that can be pleasurable for both at the same time. And because, yes, there is a whole lot of just stuff of it being condemned and... It is a whole big thing.

But I just... I would just wish for it to be depicted with a bit more nuance. And for it to stop enforcing heteronormative genderroles. Because... god damn it. I am so sick of all of that.

Rewatching NFCV with @woodchipp and @the-crow-binary has been miserable so far.

Not because of them, of course: we all need each other to bear the Peak. but holy shit I forgot how mindnumbingly boring the show is. it's way worse at a second watch because now I know how much it falls apart! We're only at S2E3 as of this post!

S1 is the best season, and even that is largely forgettable, especially S1E3 which wastes 22 minutes of my life to say "here's the bishop. he's proof that CHURCH BAD". But S1E1 may be the best or second best episode of the whole show thanks to Dracula and his performance... and isn't that sad, that the show peaks at the very beginning? The rest of the show is just... Trevor doing his stuff (while the framing mostly makes fun of him), talking, some fighting, and CHURCH BAD. As positives, I still like Trevor's mini-arc in this season, and the vague effort to be faithful to CV3 (Sypha being petrified by a cyclops, falling down a chasm to find Alucard).

S2 is terrible. Yes we're still less than halfway through. I already hate everything.

I hate Alucard becoming a legend to the point that the Wallachians name his Alucard (as in, Dracula's opposite) after only a year - why couldn't he name himself Alucard? Why complicate matters so much? Isaac calling him Alucard, and Dracula recognizing the name, makes absolutely no sense: how do they know about it? Dracula lost contact with his son one year ago and I doubt Wallachian human legends have reached him. And Isaac was in the Sahara until sometime after Lisa died!

I hate Alucard himself. He's a cunt. He does nothing but insult Trevor and the Belmonts without provocation, and it's not funny banter, he's mean! He's genuinely cruel! He hears that Trevor lost his family at 12, and he can only say "lol and lmao I had more of a childhood than you. anyway they were mentally ill and child killers, they sacrificed chickens and hoarded dead cats". And this piece of shit is the most popular character of the show??? he's not even pretty what are y'all seeing 😭

(it's also weird how he's all angsting about killing his vampire father, but he hates the Belmont for being vampire hunters. bro. bro you're also about to hunt a vampire. why are you defending a race of monsters so staunchly. not even a hint of, I don't know, a Belmont hurting him when he was a child because he was confused for a full vampire? Remember that logically, a vampire child is a child turned into a vampire, we have no other indication that dhampirs are running all around the world. I know that in the games he seems fully on board with "vampires bad and me bad for being half vampire", but you have the chance of making it better and you squander it?)

Sypha is also ruder than I remembered. I think she suddenly became more cheerful in S3 and that's why I liked her, but also girl, you keep criticizing Trevor for being rude and not consoling you, but you look at him with a perpetual resting bitch face and insult the Morning Star calling it an "ugly thing"? Why does Trevor even bother with the likes of you? How is Trephacard the most popular ship in the franchise?

I hate Isaac. Oh, I gave him the benefit of the doubt back then, because I really wanted to understand why he became the fan favorite. But now? No, I'm sorry, he's overrated as fuck. He's so damn pretentious, his speech about how he wants a pure world without love is terrible from the lens of him being a Muslim who is devoted to the Devil, and his backstory is so tryhard and historically inaccurate that I almost prefer Hector's past being exposed through voiceover.

Oh, and Hector, I hate his scenes. Because he's actually treated with dignity. He's fine! I actually like the guy! I like the scene where he rebukes Godbrand (who as a character only exists to attract infodumps and to question Dracula) because "I have to work" - he sounds actually proud of his role, if not even competent, perish the thought. Also by reading the scripts online I forgot that he was the one who yelled "you do not question my loyalty!". Which I like a lot? I can hear the real Hector protesting like that out of pride, even if in private he would admit that he disagrees with the bloodshed. And the scene where he soothes the newborn Night Creature... yeah, this character used to be written with respect, and knowing how he gets tortured and disrespected and used for rape apologism by a sex pest hurts even more. Also, in retrospect, the scene where he stares at the fire while reminiscing about the day he set fire on his own childhood home doesn't go anywhere, even as the finale of S3 echoes it :^)

And Dracula, oh my poor man Dracula. He's already being presented as an ineffectual depressed old man spending his time staring at a fireplace, who can't even command his presence in the war room, who allows Carmilla to insult him and Lisa in front of everyone - it's so embarrassing how he gets the Red Eyes of Fury and then he simply... lets her go after he gets the flimsy explanation of "yeah I humiliated you because everyone is asking themselves the same question. I wanted to help <3" girl (Dracula), she's a mere regional ruler, as she herself said??? why do you need her so much that you allow her to do this shit??????? oh but then you posture to godbrand, he gets to be threatened because... he's not relevant to the plot i guess. fucking pathetic. what have they done to my man.

(and I hate Carmilla. but that has never changed. annoying smug ass #girlboss with the charisma of spoiled seafood. her way of manipulating Hector isn't even manipulation, it's just her telling him very plainly what she wants him to do. She and Lenore utterly suck at their job, and they only get their way because muh plot)

And then there's the infodumping. Oh my god these people won't shut the fuck up. Godbrand is like "why should we listen to two humans?" and Dracula dumps twice that he trusts Hector and Isaac for their human nature (which, again, it's a decent reasoning, but it goes on and on and even they should know, I get it). Alucard dumps about the apocalyptic scenario where Dracula wins and rules over a world without humans... but he only describes it as we look into his ugly face, instead of doing something more creative like actually showing what would happen. Hector gets this random flashback-through-sound, shoved there as if Ellis didn't know where to put it in the script; later on he explains to Carmilla the origin of Night Creatures, as if ever remotely matters. Isaac dumps about his jihadist philosophy about how by killing humans he and Dracula will create a pure world. Carmilla randomly reveals her Tragic Backstory after kicking Godbrand down the stairs, another scene I can't stand because it's all about what a #queen she is and how she's better than Dracula. At one point they seriously discuss about the myth of vampires unable to cross running water, which is a moot point anyway because Carmilla resorts to using a zombie bishop to bless the river!! No I will never let it go!!!

(also I love that in the one occasion where Alucard has the chance of describing his childhood, he retells the tale of Lisa meeting Dracula, something we've already seen and he was also obviously told about, not something he experienced himself. They couldn't even come up with another anedocte to actually tell us what kind of mother Lisa used to be. so lazy)

This show is half people sitting in a circle and talking, and half average fight scenes. Yeah at this point not even those impress me anymore. I'm serious when I say that Knuckles' fight scene in Divergence, also animated by Powerhouse Animation Studios, is of a better quality than what the show has offered.

And this is why I'm so reluctant to watch Nocturne. If the best seasons of this highly acclaimed show are so painful to sit through, how are we going to survive a sequel series that not even the fans liked it as much?

Alucard's portrayal in netflixvania has done irrevocable damage to how his character is perceived by the fandom as a whole, and this is one of many reasons why. 

I refuse to acknowledge what Warren Ellis did to him and I refuse to acknowledge his rapist ocs as canon. It cannot be proof of Alucard's sexuality (I think he is bisexual for entirely different reasons, based solely on the characters I ship him with in cv3 and sotn) or what he actually does like doing in the bedroom, because it's a rape scene written by a sex pest.

I'm also refuting it out of spite for migratory slash fandoms latching onto trevorcard for the wrong reasons and forcing them into the seme/uke mold. I can't even really call it flanderization when it's not an exaggeration of traits they actually have, it's just wildly out of character. I have a deep-seated personal seething hatred of ukefication in general, and especially when it comes to pretty bishounen. 

It's even worse when it's my comfort character who I somewhat relate and project onto and aspire to be as pretty as him and I WOULD NEVER DO THAT. (For personal reasons to do with me being ftm and dysphoric as hell and hating the stereotypes about it. I don't hc Alucard as trans but I know there's fans who do SOLELY because he's pretty and/or because they decided bottom=trans because of the aforementioned nfcv shit and I hate it. If vampires were real I would let them bite me though. I'm only a masochistic slut for vampires ok)

Exhibit B: Actual serious reasoning based on what I can extrapolate about his characterization based on the games and vampire lore in general

A very common headcanon which while I don't entirely agree with, is more accurate than how nfcv and its fans portray him, is that Alucard is aroace. And I can somewhat see it, though I see it more in the sense that I think he would be more interested in pseudo-sexual intimacy than actual sex. The sexiest of all forms of pseudo-sex is a vampire's bite (citation NOT needed). I'd go so far as to call it a type of BDSM. Feeding would be the ultimate act of love and intimacy for him, and I don't think it's something he does lightly; only with the humans who love and trust him implicitly.

Additionally, I think he'd be more interested in sex while feeding than sex by itself; both of them at once being filled with the other's warmth.

I've curated my dash enough to not see any of it on tumblr, but trephacard shippers still manage to annoy me by cluttering up the tags for the games on ao3. The sheer amount of fics that get filtered out when I filter it out is just depressing. They get all three of them completely wrong (which is mostly the shows writers fault but they still get compressed even further into flanderized molds) They're sleeping on Grant when they could be sleeping with Grant and leaving him out of the polycule is an instant red flag that it's a netflixvania fic

8: common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about

The common headcanon that Alucard is oblivious to or disinterested in romance. I'd like to think he does reciprocate Maria's and the curse polycule's feelings. It's not that he doesn't want to be with any of them, but that he keeps his distance and goes to sleep out of a misguided desire to protect them from himself and believing he doesn't belong with humans because of the vampire half of himself; all the while pining that they cannot be together. I don't think that was an easy decision for him to make.

12:  the unpopular character that you actually like and why more people should like them

I feel like outside of here, people just see her as Hector's obligatory love interest or as a replacement for Rosaly. She is so much more than that. I feel like there is so much that CoD only hints at on a surface level.

I've been thinking more thoughts about her lately, admittedly in relation to Isaactor-centric fic ideas but I feel like she's taken on more of a distinct personality that cannot be interchangeable with any other character.

I think anyone who appreciates Isaac should appreciate her too; I'd like to think they're not as different as they seem in CoD

Idk why people are suprised about Dan & Donna or Melissa (Pre HM) being loved. Fans here have been attaching onto small/background characters for ages. Fuck we LOVED Peter before he was known as Pete and was just "hot chocolate boy". People used to have Danny and Sof in fics all the time. People ship Gary Goldstein and Man in a Hurry. Before npmd, Cineplex Teen was imagined to be Pete's friend. And some people ship Dan & Donna and some people loved Melissa before HM, particularly ppl really mostly liked when all we had was just tgwdlm. That hasn't stopped either, currently people love Trevor, Ruldoph and Brooke. People just like small/background characters, probably because you kinda just make them whatever you want for the most part so there's so little known about them.

including Drew as a background gag would honestly be a brilliant idea. like, Jake runs off somewhere, and in the background, there's just Drew holding up a piece of paper that says "???". i have no clue where in Canada Drew and Tom/Jake/Miriam live-- the country is quite large, so it could be an equivalent distance to Ashley living in Texas and Ellie/Tess living in New York-- but given that Ellie will be in the series, someone is travelling somewhere! so it's definitely possible.

i'm pretty neutral on the TomJake series, mostly because i don't know what it's going to be about. in a best case scenario, it's a delayed wrap-up to All Stars, further exploring some of the plot threads that weren't fully developed leading up to and after Riya's win. in a worst case scenario, it's a disjointed collection of mildly confusing fanservice, a la "Derek and Trevor accidentally kiss in the shower." (i actually liked that episode as a whole, but man was that moment in particular cringe.) i'm definitely going to watch it just so that i know what's up, but i do feel like they probably could have better used this time elsewhere (more staff stories, official season epilogue, start s4 faster).

but, Sapphire, if they did an Ashley, Drew, or Alec spinoff, how would they lure people in by putting gay people in the thumbnail??? (/s) mostly kidding, but i'm sure it is true that they were willing to bank on a TomJake series because they knew that those popular characters would get the clicks. if we got another spinoff, it'd probably be jaiden-centric, lmao.

of course, Ashley and especially Alec are also pretty popular, so it's not outside of the realm of possibility! an Alec series would definitely good, to clarify his relationship with Fiore, learn a bit more about his family, and perhaps touch on what Riya's up to after the show. an Ashley show i fear would lack any conflict (because she slays at life so hard), but maybe we could learn a bit about her family too.

Hm. Interesting chart. The one I agree most with is that I definitely would've liked to see an interaction between Tess and Alec. Those two do have quite a few things in common (quiet, reserved/introverted, level headed, fairly intelligent, logical, lone wolves who like to read, etc.) so I'm sure they would've clicked well with each other. Eh, who knows? Maybe there was some interaction at the motel off camera. Though that is mostly just wishful thinking, since I highly doubt either of them would ever see a reason to talk to the other with how little they know about each other, being from separate seasons and all.

yeah, and Alec was in the Motel for a pretty short amount of time (2 episodes, maybe like 5 days). canonically, he probably spent a lot of that time talking to Fiore and then Connor. Perhaps Ellie and Grett as well.

god knows Alec could use a therapist friend, though. maybe if people started following each other online, they could wind up chatting with each other then! or, i'm sure Alec would read Lake's book someday, so he could at least see her illustrations then.

- Ollie is 26 years old, he’s been working at the ccc for a total of 3 years.

- current voice claim for Ollie, is Martin Blackwood from the Magnus archives.

- he was originally made as a minor character for a thsc rp I’m in, but then Sam happened and we started to develop the two more and eventually from there, we got the Ollie we have today!

- Ollie joined the ccc after he was suggested (and heavily pressured) into by his…. Less than good… ex partner.

- he doesn’t have any powers, he’s just kinda a average stick… except for one thing.

- After an event where his ex broke Ollie’s coding slightly, ollie has been having “dreams” of other timelines of himself. These “dreams” often are from the pov of whatever alternate version of him is there and while these “dreams” are harmless (at least physically), sometimes they contain stuff which…. Causes Ollie a LOT of distress.

- Ollie’s favourite food is bagels, he doesn’t really have a specific favourite combination of toppings, but he does tend to have cream cheese bagels more than other types.

- Ollie LOVES music, (heck- he probably would’ve tried to get a career in it, if it wasn’t for the ccc) he mostly listens to video game music and lofi when he’s stressed out.

- oh did I mention Ollie’s ex is actually, Trevor-? I don’t think I did.

- Ollie has two main fears, a fear of deep water (caused by multiple in-counters with a certain water based entity that has tried multiple times to kill him), and a fear of losing his mind (mostly more towards the “becoming feral” side.) caused by working in the ccc for a while and seeing some…. Stuff….

- Ollie has around 6 siblings. Mit baker (oc), Matteus guardsmith and Quentin alabaster as well as two others which are the ocs of a close friend of mine. Unfortunately ollie was put up for adoption as a young kid, (mainly because his parents realised they didn’t have the finances to care for 6 kids.) so he doesn’t know much about his family.

- family wise, he’s closest to his sister Mitzy, they both love video games and have had experiences with bad exs so they understand each other a lot.

- he is currently taken!! His current partner is Samuel C. Adams (a Oc by another close friend) and he’s a goofy boi, Ollie loves his current partner a lot. <3333

this whole time i've been like 'haha very funny, (almost) no one here knows who Mike Patton is' and....you could just...look him up...but you know what? here, have a "summary" (lol it's long) of Mike motherfucking Patton and his career:

Mike is an aquarius, fire goat, grew up in Eureka, a small city on the northern california coast

he never intended to be a musician, but loves diverse music/soundscapes, is a curious person, worked in a record store, has perfect pitch and a bonkers vocal range and had close childhood friends (Trevor Dunn and Trey Spruance) who WERE studying music, they formed a band that would be called Mr. Bungle in their teens (fans tend to ship Trevor and Mike, and if you look at footage of them...you'll know why)

a demo tape of Mr. Bungle landed in the hands of Jim Martin, the guitarist for Faith No More...at the time they had fired their original singer and were looking for a replacement. The funny thing is, the demo was pretty hard thrash/death metal and FNM is....not that...but anyway, Mike was recruited to FNM, ostensibly for his singing ability, but he also was the profile of young, fit, long-haired, and hot as all get out. (fans tend to ship Mike and Roddy, and if you hear them banter on stage....you'll know why...and shoutout to Roddy for being an out gay man in metal in the early 90s...take that bja)

somehow, Mike finagled getting Mr. Bungle signed to the Warner Bros label when he signed onto FNM, so Bungle had a budget and exposure...and very little oversight...hence the MV for Quote Unquote/Travolta

The big Faith No More hit is Epic and that song catapulted them into a two year tour, during which Mike became known for being a fucking maniac (mostly shirtless) on/off stage....there's lots of true stories, and LOTS of untrue stories, no one, probably not even Mike knows exactly which is which. Two things are relevant: teen Mike started out straight edge, and during this tour he also gained a reputation for hating on groupie-and-party-focused rock stars. But his looks and his chaotic gremlin energy landed him this "reluctant pinup boy" persona.

Meanwhile Mike was also fully with Mr. Bungle, touring in his 'off time' from FNM, and at their shows everyone was completely unhinged.

HERE'S THE CRUX: after the success of Epic and the album it's from, The Real Thing, Faith No More were expected to have another massive hit with the next album....and they didn't. BUT they produced an album that to this day is beloved by fans even more that their first album, and Mike's stage persona continued to develop in this way that is mysterious, mesmerizing, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes grotesque, sometimes just raw sexual/homoerotic/electrically-passionate energy. They're big abroad, but not as much in the US.

Through the rest of the 90s you see Mike with FNM and Bungle, but you also see him produce a baffling feat of a solo album, starting to experiment with his own band Fantômas, collaborating with avant garde musicians/artists, most notably John Zorn.

Faith No More disbands in 1998, but Mike continues with Bungle, and for many fans, his work with Mr. Bungle is considered paramount...FNM is fun, but Bungle is FUN, WEIRD, dangerous but not in a scary way, none of their four albums sound anything like each other. Their "pop" album is....not pop.

Mr. Bungle disbands officially in 2004 (both FNM and Bungle reunite later on), Mike continues to collaborate with musicians, form new bands (including my fave Tomahawk), make better and more impactful solo projects and generally work at a pace that seems the definition of workaholic....producing music that is both eclectic and instantly recognizable, but seldom (never?) hit material. (Since it's not the 90s, I won't describe in detail...but it truly is well worth looking up)

as a little extra, and as was referred to by lurkerwithabike, Mike suffered a certainly covid-times-influenced breakdown and dealt with alcoholism around 2021/2022. For someone who has kept his personal life and struggles cloaked in apocryphal stories and sarcasm, when Mike opened up about what he was dealing with at the time, for many of us it just solidified this deep, deep love for our little weirdo. Oh, and also, the entire time he's a fucking hottie and he hates it.

SO, from my perspective at least - that's why you get such fervor over some guy you've never heard of

Figured I'd do a little intro!

'Sup! My name's Vil N. Melling, and I go by she/her pronouns. I'm 19 years old, I'm from quaint little Sweden, I'm a rare species of Hatchetfield fan that's cishet (I was brought here by a couple of lesbians: my sister and her girlfriend), and while I'm not officially diagnosed, if I'm not neurodivergent there's just something unrelated that's terribly wrong with my brain.

I'm a writer currently swept up in a Hatchetfield hyperfixation. While I'm nerding out about Hatchetfield, I'm also writing my second book and editing my debut novel. NPMD also managed to suck me back into fanfiction writing after only writing original works for two years!
