Intellectual authority, Emma Chamberlain, and how to prevent war

Recently I saw a post of Emma Chamberlain celebrating her graduation from High School. And good for her, I recall some years ago watching her vlogs and her complaining how school is something really tough for her mentally, so it must've taken a huge effort to get through this. Some time ago some people on TikTok were criticizing her podcast and lack of research that goes into it, which eventually turned into simple hate campaign, where every podcast clip was filled with some type of a hate comment, telling Emma to go to college, that she is uneducated, and that she is having thoughts on her podcast similar to those that they had at the age of 8. Which are both completely horrible arguments and here's why: I don't think in modern days going or graduating college is the main factor of education. And I'm talking here more about Liberal Arts not about Medicine or STEM majors. We're not living in times of Virginia Woolf anymore, where it was required to go to university to have some sort of intellectual authority. Nowadays you can gain intellectual authority simply by backing your arguments with legitimate research that would be done individually within the landscape of the internet. You have to bring receipts to the table. Most liberal arts subjects could be learned online, there is so much educational information available, it's truly incredible. Which brings me to mention that such intellectual authority is required from every influencer with a large audience. Especially, their opinion on war. And now we have fans harassing their favorites of all sorts, to give their opinion on Palestine, Ukraine, immigrant crisis and other important things. The problem is that these people know nothing (or close to nothing) about such issues therefore they can't really comment on it and call a large mass of people to action. Because it's unclear to them what would be the consequence of them pushing towards some issue. However, there are those influencers that do a more academic research based content like contrapoints (Natalie Wynn), Hasan Piker etc. That contribute intellectually and monetarily towards good causes. Maybe we should let political influencers to be political and intellectual and fashion/comedy/entertainment ones to do just that? Do we really need Trisha Paytas thoughts on how to prevent war? Would it bring any value? “let’s play some jazz” — brent comer and jason were doing an interview (same interview where the “shirtless crying men” quote is from actually) and they mentioned that they’d had this highbrow conversation where they compared acting to jazz, so now before the show starts they say to each other “let’s play some jazz”

“dan berry on a magnet” — a fan randomly put a picture of dan berry (paul) on a magnet and then more and more people started doing it too. it has its own jingle which is just “dan berry on a magnet” but sung

“why yes” — emma pittman’s catchphrase which you’ll hear her say on both the call me cherry and call me emma vlogs

So the ending of the Quarry, huh? ...It kinda sucks not gonna lie. Spoilers ahead.

Legit though, way to take someone out of the mood! Yay freeze frames of the characters and if they survived! No idea what happened to them afterwards though, what did they do with their lives? Did Laura become a vet??? Did any of those relationships matter or were they shoved in solely cause ooo teen love?? Guess we’ll never know! (if there is an ending that says this please lmk, I am not sitting through that fucking podcast again.)

And the podcast, mmmmm. Hate it. The characters are annoying and they add no value. Would have been fun if we got Emma vlogging about it like “heyyyy, almost diedddd” but nah, let’s shove that podcast that ryan mentioned once into the game. 

Totally possible I’m missing something from this ending or that, but as a first impression of the game the ending is so lackluster. That being said, decent game. Can and will bitch about it for the next 2 days, but I enjoyed it immensely.

I’ve been reading your yandere quarry x reader and I was wondering if you could do yandere Emma?

Emma tries to distance herself when she notices that she's really catching hard feelings and that she won’t be able to write it off as a summer fling like she has done before in the past, yet the more she distances herself the more she starts to long for her darling. She panics before deciding to play it cool and she starts to slowly introduce flirting into her usual banter with her obsession, she really really tries to stop herself from spiraling further down the rabbit hole but on the other side she really wants to indulge in it and eventually she does.

She starts to add her darling more into her vlogs, subtly hinting that they are dating when they are not (yet anyway) making her fanbase ship her and her darling which will fuel her decision to pursue her obsession.

She starts to become more clingy and wants to keep her darlings attention to herself, after all she is everything someone could want so please keep paying attention to her.

Will have a mental folder about her obsession from their likes to their dislikes and starts to give her obsession things they like as a way to make them happy and so that they will start to associate their likes with her.

If her darling has some insecurities she will subtly mention them and make them feel like she is too good for them but that she hangs around them because she likes them.  She likes to make her darling feel like they have to keep her happy or do things for her so that she won’t leave them.

When push comes to shove she will try to convince her darling that they should move closer to her, or that she moves close to them while mentioning all the benefits and none of the more concerning things that will happen the more time Emma spends with her obsession.

She will start to make her obsession stop hanging around with their friends, spreading false rumors and misinformation about their friends to make them (the friends) the black sheep of the town.

Will eventually persuade  her obsession into moving in with her and then she becomes way more controlling than she already was, making them put on a happy face whenever the camera is on no matter what happens right before the camera turns on.

Obviously she makes sure that her obsession has limited online access in order to prevent them from getting help that way, and she also makes sure that they stop talking to their family.

They will only give bad advice she reasoned with herself as she noticed that she was too far down the rabbit hole of obsession to stop now and pretend it never happened.  She just hopes her obsession gets stockholm syndrome quickly in order to feel less guilty about all of the boundaries and the trust she broke in order to get what she wanted, which at the end was just the love of her obsession

Not to mention Emma (I think it was Emma? It could have been someone else on a live actually) said that brody was already almost done being ready to go on stage way before them and that he has to get ready before everyone else so he might just not have the time for vlogs if he did want to do some of them

And this man is on stage for all but like a couple of scenes i feel like he has zero time during the actual show to be apart of the vlogs 😭

It sems like brody dont be hanging with anyone cause emma be asking questions TO EVERYONE except brody :( and there be advisers with everyone except brody :(( idk if its cause he distant from the cast but its just sad. Like i dont wanna say it like this but it seems like after the accusations everything about him just disappeared

i don’t think it’s anything to worry about. he’s never really been in advertisements to begin with. hell he’s pretty inactive on his own socials, i don’t see why he’d want to be in other people’s. i think i know one vlog of hers that brody appeared in and i really don’t think he’s being ostracized. he was never in the curtain call vids. he was never in the vlogs to begin with so this isn’t anything new. besides, the cast is always really open to him in the show when they don’t even have to be. so i think it’s something for his own comfort. i remember like one vlog he was in where he got a letter and was opening it but that was it. even before the allegations he was always pretty private. so this sing anything new.

regardless, i don’t think there’s any truth to the allegations. but i know back in july people were commenting on things he was in calling him a rapist so i don’t think after that he’s really like…looking to be in social media posts. it’s really nothing to worry about. mel said in her own live that people can be in lives and blogs only if they’re comfortable. you could say the same thing about josh boone like he’s never in any of emma’s vlogs either. it’s likely a comfort level thing. I wouldn’t worry too much.

yes 👏 everything you said, just yes. he's such a goofball and a dork, and just adorable. I've seen people call him 'cringe', and sure he can be, but it's not like the others aren't. I haven't really been involved in the fandom publicly, but from what I've seen he's the only character where people nitpick at his flaws. Again, I haven't really been involved so let me know if this isn't true!

honestly at first he didn't catch my eye (talking about trailers and such) but then I played the game and just absolutely fell in love with him

we’re on a similar page. from what i saw before playing, Jacob didn’t interest me much. i was more excited for Justice Smith bc The G*t Down is one of best shows i’ve ever watched. but now that i’ve finished The Quarry several times over, Jacob has held the Number #1 spot for my favorite character!

he’s such a dork and he really warms my heart. not to mention his serious sides. Jacob has alarmingly low self esteem and abandonment issues that become more apparent the later into the game you get. he’s a really interesting character!

abt the cringe stuff: any Supermassive fan getting on a character for being cringe must’ve been asleep when their other games were released. one of the company’s most well known perks is quirky dialogue so to suddenly have a problem with it now is wild.

so far the biggest group i’ve seen that found Jacob embarrassing are the let’s players who were more focused on pairing Jacob up with Emma, instead of genuinely enjoying the characters as their own people. which is sad bc Emma and Jacob are a lot more than just their former romance.

for example, if you look at the “peanut butter butterpops” dance as Jacob simply trying to woo Emma, then yes it’s a bonafide fail. but if you view it as Jacob being super excited to find a snack he hasn’t seen in years, one he loved so much that he memorized it’s jingle, and is so overjoyed at finding a bag he erupts in unrestrained song and dance, only to grow even MORE excited at the idea of introducing said snack to someone who’s never had it before, then the moment comes off as endearing and tooth achingly sweet.

abt the nitpick stuff: tbf i don’t think Jacob is the only character that gets picked on:

Ryan definitely does, like a horrendous amount. most of the times i’ve seen ppl praise his character is just when they ship him with Dylan. and even THEN sometimes ppl will say comments like “Dylan deserves so much better tho, poor guy”. Ryan gets shat on a lot and it’s very uncalled for imo.

as does Emma. ppl hated her island vlogging and call her all types of insults for the way she went abt the dare. which is unfair bc there’s tons of moments where Emma’s deeper personality shines. she’s very concerned for the well being of animals and only wants to make ppl as happy as she can. she is not just “The Girl Who Kissed Her Best Friend’s Crush”™️. she’s fleshed out and deserves her props.

and then there’s that “sociopath/secretly abusive Nick” thing going around. i’ll admit i thought it had merit for a short while, but i’ve come to realize it doesn’t, not as much as ppl think it does anyway.

i believe the only ones who are solid fan faves are Dylan and Kaitlyn. 90% of the fanbase loves Laura, but debate whether she took up too much screentime in Chapter 7 or not. i love Laura but i’m part of the group that agrees her story shouldve either been spread out more or saved for a DLC.

I’m sad we couldn’t save Silas without ending everyone else, but then again, it seems like the Hag has no remorse over Silas killing those kids, so kinda earned? I mean, who in their right mind would cage their son and show to other people for money? 

Laura and Max <3 She’s a determined badass that went through hell for her boyfriend, he’s a genuine kid that loves her. Het couples that I like are rare, but those are it. I’m sad there wasn’t much of Max (but the crop top! :D Genius.)

Dylan is cute. I liked how he wants to major in quantum physics (?), yet he tried to stay open minded once Laura showed up and told them about the story. I wonder how different he would’ve been with Ryan in his usual life

Nick is cute, too, but kissing Emma back like that was... huh?

Ryan is very, VERY flat. I liked him at first and how he tried to stay reasonable, but then it kinda got old. “Mister H this, Mister H that. Those trail cams are probably nothing, everything is fine.” C’mon, Ryan, think! It was very weird how the game pushed Ryan on Laura (she has a boyfriend whom she loves? huh?) after flirting with Dylan for so long. I genuinely thought it was a joke until I saw people complaining about it and going further toward the end. It felt so fake when Dylan and Kaitlyn were discussing it, “I guess we know know his type.” Hello?? You two were kissing? You crushed hard on Ryan & smiled like a happy kid after the kiss, but suddenly you were ok with that? Idk, it was a VERY weird turn. Then forcing Dylan & Kaitlyn together? HUH?! Not to mention Ryan and Kaitlyn, god damn it. F o r c e d. And what’s with censoring Ryan and Dylan’s kiss? I guess the developers want us to be grateful it was available in the first place (ngl, i was afraid it wouldn’t be possible and they’re just queerbaiting us), but still. Either way, they all fell apart & why would you introduce this in the first place?

Emma is a bitch, no doubt about it. Not only because of that kiss (Hey Abi, you should totally go for Nick! Also watch me devouring his face), but when she and Abi were in the basement, she was like, “Go find something to do, some light, do something!” Huh? If you need that, go do that yourself. Abi was determined to stay in the basement until morning without doing anything. Also the vlogging in the middle of... everything. God damn it. Emma is basically gaslight & manipulate type of person. Ew.

Jacob is a big dumb puppy. Annoying in the opposite to Emma’s way. Who breaks the car on purpose to stop the entire group from leaving?!

The Hacketts are assholes & they all deserved to die. Constance and her husband first. Kayle (? C. granddaughter) seemed to have good intentions & if Silas was killed earlier, she would’ve probably deserved to have a better life. Still, who fucking brings kids to a summer camp when all your family is werewolves that can and WILL hurt the children at the first chance? The idea of it itself makes me roll my eyes.

Overall, the werewolves could’ve looked cooler, but that muzzle, and sharp teeth, and long tongue, and red/yellow eyes deserve to exist as one of the versions of werewolves, I think. Reminded me of werewolves in Harry Potter in the first place. Ne recognition of their loved ones or what they’ve done whatsoever.

yes thank you! I haven't watched Emma's vlogs but I knew there was some costume stuff that I was gonna check out after I got all the posts up! Do you know what episode I would find that in?
