Why are there people who look at a story about characters who explicitly say "i don't want sex" and decide that some other pleasure the character enjoys is clearly "like sex" for them? Why must there be anything that's "like sex"? People can have pleasures that are not sexual in nature and still not want sex. Sex is not a universal constant or an absolute necessity. You don't need to have sex or something you can equal to sex in every story. And let's not even start on the whole "they clearly must be having sex even if they say they don't because who wouldn't want to have sex?" comments... Just something for you allos to think about.

Hi! As someone just coming into reading the books but who's been with the show since day 1, I'm curious about why people take Lestat's narrative in TVL with 100% sincerity when the premise of the show seems to be interrogating the dissonance that everybody's versions create. Obviously there's some big things that are definitely going to be true, but I'd personally be disappointed if we got a straight adaptation of unfiltered Lestat perspective on events, haha!
I think you're conflating sincerity with some idea of omniscient, objective accuracy, which, as you note, is a useless thing to search for in a show where memory is continually shown to be an unreliable monster.
Lestat's version of events in TVL is sincere, though. He's speaking from the heart and he's trying to give the story of his life, mostly by sharing his truth about what his life before meeting Louis was like, and in part by filling in the gaps Louis leaves us with about what happened at Rue Royale. His recollection may turn out to be as faulty and biased as Louis' or Armand's has been shown to be in the show, but that doesn't make it any less sincere.
And I'm not implying that Louis is lying or anything. I'm talking about him not mentioning or glossing over the happy memories that meant a lot to Lestat and made up, for him, a big part of what it was to share a home with Louis and Claudia for so long. Giving Lestat the space to talk about his love for Louis and Claudia doesn't erase the abuse he inflicted on them in those moments of instability and rage. I don't get why people are so resistant to seeing that. It's not like it makes everything better. If anything, it makes it worse that he loved them so much.
What's important to note, too, is that at no point does Lestat in his retelling excuse himself for anything he did to Louis and Claudia and I doubt very much we would see him do that in future seasons of the show. Lestat even says it himself that he deserved what Claudia did to him. The way things worked out between the three of them is his greatest, deepest regret and it will haunt him for the rest of his immortal life.
Also, not for nothing, what we've gotten this season and last season are the unfiltered perspectives of Louis, Claudia, and Armand. That's not to say they're lying or intentionally obfuscating (okay, well, Armand totally is), but that is what we got---a narrative that was really challenged only by Daniel and not by anyone who was actually there who remembers it differently. I don't see why we shouldn't also get Lestat's unfiltered version, especially considered he is the main protagonist of the Vampire Chronicles series going forward.
For me and many others, it's not about excusing anything. It's all about contextualizing his decisions. Like, Lestat didn't just wake up one day and decide it would be fun to destroy his family. I want him to tell me in his own words (which, as a reminder, he has yet to do at any point in this series so far) what drove him to do the horrible things he did and how he really feels about it. When we do hopefully get that, I expect the fandom to interrogate his accounts as vigorously as they did Louis' and Armand's and Claudia's.
And to answer your question regarding the books specifically, we have Anne herself to blame for that. She wrote IWTV when she was battling some of the most intense grief and despair a person can feel. She had just lost her child. Writing the book was an outlet for that and you can feel it as you read Louis' perspective. When she decided to continue the series, though, she changed her mind about a lot of things---mainly who Lestat was as a character and how she had come to hate the "weakness" in Louis (which was really because she came to hate the "weakness" she saw in herself as she came out on the other side of her grief and identified with him less and Lestat more). There is a very real dissonance between who Lestat is in IWTV and who he is in TVL and beyond. The way she accounted for that in her own writing was that Louis was misconstruing certain events by leaving things out or straight up making things up like their reunion in NOLA at the end of IWTV, which Lestat claims never happened. The reason people take Lestat's words at face value sometimes isn't usually because they hate Louis or think he lied about Lestat's abuse. It's because Anne, as the writer of the story, wanted the reader to doubt Louis' version in favor of Lestat's because she had changed her mind about the direction of the story and the characters she created.
It's also worth noting that, in the actual text of the show, that version of events taken from the book, the content of the original interview, is described by Louis himself as an admitted performance. I think it's a perfectly legitimate reading to consider IWTV (the book) in the context of Louis trying to get Lestat's attention with something he knew would upset him, like Armand suggests was Louis' fantasy, because he wanted or needed to see him again.
This got long and rambley so I'll just leave you with the wise, wise words of Samothy Reid when asked to give one truth and one lie in the show: Everybody lies. Everybody lies.
I don't think that will change if we finally get Lestat's POV so imo people should just relax and enjoy the ride.

The fact that they keep calling Marius villain and comparing him to real villains is somehow becoming amusing. Mainly because i don't understand how it is possible to not understand or indeed deny the meaning completely of a story or a character. Oh yeah there is hiding behind the mythical creature the lady ' interpretation' 😆 Marius has always been the figurehead of almost all vampires in the chronicles, he is a good-hearted character with iron morals, the one who always tries to do the right thing and harm as little as possible. And Anne has always described him as so noble of heart, elegant and wise. Of course, of course there's also this other nonsense talk of ' we don't care what the author says or explains about the character' well then don't read her books. To completely upset the meaning of what is written is just childish bullying and disrespect for the meaning of the story and the author. And this is another symptom of how sick the current fandom is, which is bored right to take the 'interpretation of a text to turn its meaning upside down and denigrate and deny the truth that is written in black and white. I, too, sometimes disliked several things during my reading of the chronicles, but I had to accept them and make peace with them because I am not the one who created this story or these characters. And that's what has to be done and if it's not possible then you have to move away from that material and not interfere with it.

21+. She/Her. Looking for 21+ writing partners for my two biggest fandom obsessions right now: Baldur's Gate 3 (BG3) and Interview with the Vampire (IWTV)/The Vampire Chronicles.
I write on Discord or through Tumblr messages but do like to stick to Tumblr for plotting. I write in third person, past tense and typically around 200-400 words. I can't guarantee daily replies because I work full-time during the week. I try my hardest to get replies out within 2-3 days. I'm pretty good about that and will let you know if it's going to take longer. I do not double because I think we should both be happy with the one idea we come up with together.
I'm mainly interested in canon x canon, but I'm willing to discuss canon x OC. MxM is my strong preference. I don't do AUs that are way out there. As long as a plot makes sense within the universe, though, I'll likely be okay with it. I lean towards writing romantic pairings and don't mind writing NSFW/smut. While I prefer to do both with these threads, that isn't a requirement.
Baldur's Gate 3:
Note: I only recently-ish started playing the game. I'm currently in Act Three (still wandering around the Lower City), so all plots will take place around or before then.
My main muses are Astarion, Gale, Raphael, Wyll, and Elkantar (my male OC who is a Drow Cleric of Bane).
The ships I'm primarily looking for are:
Astarion x Gale
Astarion x Raphael
Astarion x Wyll
Astarion x Halsin
Astarion x Cazador
Gale x Raphael
Gale x Wyll
Gale x Halsin
Gale x Gortash
Raphael x Wyll
Raphael x Haarlep
Wyll x Mizora
Elkantar x Astarion
Elkantar x Gale
Elkantar x Wyll
Elkantar x Raphael
Elkantar x Gortash
Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Chronicles:
Note: I'm familiar with the show (just got all caught up on it recently so it's fresh in my mind), the books (currently rereading them [on The Vampire Lestat right now]), and the 1994 movie. I'm happy to do plots based on any of them.
My main muses are Lestat (show, books, or movie) and Armand (show or books).
The ships I'm primarily looking for are:
Lestat x Armand
Lestat x Louis
Lestat x Nicki
Lestat x Magnus
Armand x Louis
Armand x Daniel
Armand x Marius
Armand x Santiago
For both fandoms, I'm happy to discuss other ships. Those are just my favorites.
If you'd like to work something out, please message me (preferred) or like this post and I'll reach out to you.

I wonder why vampires aren't shown to be as depressing as Aleksander is. (Idk anything about this book but since I follow you I have been reading all these metas and DAMNNN)
LMAOOOO first of all formal apology for subjecting all my previous followers who didn’t sign up for TGT meta to all of this TGT meta.
But also, I would argue that some, to even a lot, of vampires are that depressing? The Louis du Point du Lac archetype is a very prevalent one, that then got eventually watered down to the angsty Angels and Edward Cullens of the genre. (I would argue that Aleksander is directly written in conversation with the latter type) And the Vampire Chronicles/Interview With the Vampire itself, with its cast of varyingly wretched, depressed, and traumatized immortals, arguably redefined the vampire genre entirely.
Meanwhile, if you were following my blog before this, I’m assuming you’re here for Hellsing. In that, vampirism is partially a metaphor for trauma, or at least a past that cannot be overcome and turning to self destructiveness for it. Alucard’s entire personal motivation and goal is to die.
In my gradual fandom hop from Hellsing to TGT, I basically just went from analyzing the inner workings of one murderous and miserable, 500+ year old war criminal for anons in my inbox to another— only one of them happens to be Dracula!
(And I have said a couple times before that I think the Darkling is written like a vampire.)
However, I’d agree that there are key differences in the way Aleksander is depressing, and I think that is down to the themes, narrative function, and cultural associations that vampirism frequently lends itself to.
Since you aren’t familiar, I’ll sum up the plot of TGT as briefly as I can. It starts out as a very typical chosen one fantasy, where the protagonist Alina Starkov, an overlooked and unremarkable orphan serving in the military, is discovered to be the lost princess the super special, never before seen magic user with the special type of sunlight magic that the entire country has been waiting for to save it from the shadowy, monster filled dimensional rift, smack dab in the middle of it, that’s been making everyone’s life hell. She’s immediately whisked away to a life of luxury, and taken under wing by The Darkling, the mysteriously goth and pretty commander of all magic users who possesses the antithesis of her power. If she can summon light, he can summon shadows. He’s supposedly “only” one hundred years old, but his ancestor created the Shadow Fold. And he’s soooo sad and guilty about that inherited mistake and he’s determined to fix it. Alina’s supposed to to help him do it— chiefly, through the power of a mythical amplifier that’s meant to enhance her power. But the mid point of the very first book is that, after a big makeout scene with very dubious vibes, one of Alina’s magic teachers, herself turning out to be the Darkling’s mother, reveals that he’s much older than he claims and that he created the Shadow Fold and has no intention of destroying it, as opposed to using it as a weapon against other countries. He also means to use the amplifier they’ve been searching for to magically enslave her and take her power for his own. So Alina runs away! And this sets off the rest of the series which is a race to get to each of the three mythical amplifiers before the other does. And generally evading the Darkling who has now gone gloves off and doesn’t mind showing himself to be an unfeeling mass murderer.
The narrative from this point on positions him mainly as Alina’s foil, as her potential future and worst case scenario. As she amasses her own power and makes sacrifices in the name of defeating him, she’s presented as essentially being in danger of falling into the same path of corruption over centuries. Because, crucially, now that she has the amplifiers, she will also be immortal. And he is both convinced that she must turn out like him, but also that her immortality positions her as his equal above mortals, and as his companion, even if he must capture her and break her will down to make her see that.
The series’ main themes— handled with… debatable success— are that of autonomy, greed, the corruption inherit in accumulated power, and the pitfalls of means to an end morality. The particular ways that Aleksander is a uniquely miserable character are inextricable from his role in the story and what he is meant to represent. But the in-universe circumstances of his immortality also change things a lot.
Vampiric angst is usually tied to the overtly, or otherwise thinly veiled, Christian concept of damnation. Vampirism is culturally a curse, drinking blood to live, and fearing the sunlight is meant to be monstrous. There are individual instances (World of Darkness, some of the True Blood lore) where vampires have their own doctrines and believe themselves to be chosen or better than mortals. But typically cultural associations with them are uniformly negative.
In TGT there is the vague implication of “shadow powers bad” but it’s mostly framed as prejudice against something unknown. Meanwhile magic isn’t inherently awful, and the more powerful a magic user the more long lived they are, hence Aleksander pretending to be 100ish was believable. But hardly anyone else actually lives into multiple centuries the way he has. He’s an aberration. There’s also no element of like readily making anyone else immortal, so Aleksander ends up in this kind of bewilderingly lonely position of being isolated in his power and having no real idea of how or why this happened (beyond his equally long lived mother explicitly trying to have The Most Powerful Child Ever)
I think similarly, immortality as something that’s given to someone at some point during their life, as is the case with vampires, tends to evoke themes of stagnation and being frozen in time. Aleksander is a VERY inadaptable character, who isn’t really able to comprehend how much his sense of morals has been warped over the years. But he’s very driven and forward looking?
I feel like vampires as a concept don’t lend as easily and immediately to the “I am going to create widespread political change” type. And again with no preexisting associations with being cursed or damned, nor their being the inherent need for murder to survive, I think Aleksander ends up being in a position where he’s both more and less morally ambiguous. He’s not inherently monstrous, he only becomes that way through gradual, and inadvertent moral corruption. There’s no element of “succumbing to his nature.” He can keep thinking that he’s fully morally correct as long as he believes his goals are worth it and his sacrifices will have a return on them. The fact that he easily could have turned out completely differently and never been a villain at all is integral to his character.
Vampires conversely tend to deal with corruption of the soul/moral character at the point of immortality, or about consciously trying to combat the corruption of a known and acknowledged baser nature.
I’m aware that I’m making a lot of generalizations and assumptions about the ready thematic functions of vampires in fiction, but I hope this makes sense? Basically I think the tragedy just comes from a different direction.
Anyway, while I’m talking about vampires, I want to circle back to my earlier point about the Darkling feeling Edward Cullen influenced to me. Shadow and Bone was published in 2011, and with how slow moving the traditional publishing industry is, it’s safe to say it was written at least a year or two prior.
This would be towards the tail end of the post Twilight paranormal, and specifically vampire, romance boom. It was not at all uncommon to see unironic romances focusing on impressionable teenaged protagonists with poor self esteem, getting with 100+ year old love interests who, in singling them out (for their “maturity” and discontent from their peer group) validate their self worth, but also completely isolate and impose their own values on them.
The first half of the very first TGT book follows those same tropes pretty closely, and the initial romance heavy book marketing was basically indistinguishable from that crop of books.
To be clear, I think wish fulfillment stories are fine lol, but it’s really interesting to think of SaB (and the Darkling!) as a deliberate deconstruction in response to those trends.
Anyway this kind of went all over the place.
TLDR: I think vampires are?? frequently just as depressing?? They just tend to do it in mildly different ways. Also I have a soap box about Aleksander being a direct take on Edward Cullen (and others of his character type) being easily read as a controlling and abusive groomer.

SHIPPY SHIP SHIP!
Tagged by @negrowhat <333333333333333333333333333333
1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?
I didn't really have a fixed ship to hang my hat on in those days (aka the before the internet tiemz), but Buffy and Pike (movie BTVS) were the main couple I fixated on back then (still was figuring out why movie Lestat and Louis made me feel funny in my tummy at that time, so Buffy and Pike were the easier option LOL)
Tumblr media
2. Which ship would you consider your first one?
Roz and Dan from Night Court; I was 7 and I wanted them married and arguing until the end of time <3
Tumblr media
3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?
(hops in the wayback machine) Pretty sure I was writing for Greg/Nick (CSI) just a bit before Ennis/Jack (Brokeback). Still so very thankful that those four introduced me to friends I'd still have in my life 20 years later!
Tumblr media
4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?
I very clearly remember the Spangel fanvids that took more than day to download from our AOL dialup, yes XD
5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?
Attempting to nail jello to a tree would be a far more productive use of my time.
6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?
Can't say anything comes to mind, really.
7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?
Had to go through my AO3 history, last time I had a clear enough head to attempt to read anything was early autumn last year (oof) and it was a modern AU of Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang that I don't think I finished because I really can't recall any of it. Ah, well.
8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?
Since I can't engage in fic it's hard for me to keep hold of the newer ships, so my brain tends to fall back on old reliables- Loustat/Loumand being at the top at this very moment because the fandom's waking up again for season 2 in May.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?
Another one that I can't think of anything.
10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?
Not Really, if I hated them then I'm sure I still hate them now. (keeping your answer here, Eboni, because same)
11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?
I'd be cancelled over any ship at any time for anything, such is the nature of this goofball puritanical mindset that has taken over fandom socmed. (I know the problem reaches so much further than that, but I'm not clearheaded enough to write a dissertation LOL)
12. What was your favorite crack ship?
Can't say I've ever had one.
13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?
20+ years ago I was slowly killing copious amounts of trees and our at-home printer with Spangel fics that I didn't want to lose (have since lost all of the printouts, and the fics are still online in their respective webrings, yikes) So yeah, Spangel would probably still win. Ennis/Jack, and Wangxian would round out the top three, I'm sure.
Tumblr media
14. What most of your ships usually have in common?
Bastard-coated bastards, pastel/goth, grumpy/sunshine.
15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?
Drawing a blank here. Though, I will have a harder time engaging if the source material is mainly written in 1st person POV, which is why I'd be considered a fake Vampire Chronicles fan XD (forever thankful for my friends that actually read the books and school me on what I don't know)

Why am I on Tumblr?
Hello. If you are wondering:
Came here to obsess about Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles mainly (gradually working through the books I first read more than a decade ago and giving some the books I skipped or that weren't released yet a try.)
Like Armand a lot, not precious about ships but devil's minion is my fave.
This seems to be the best option we have for fandom, it might be falling apart slightly but I found a lot of great fan writers and artists on here so I'll give it another try - with any luck the social features of this social media website work on this blog!

Prejudgement: Jacob Anderson – Face of 'Woke' & 'Unnecessary'
Summary and disclosure:
This will be a series formatted post on the topic of Interview with the Vampire AMC and the reactions of Fandom before the airing of Season One. Following the conversations around the choices of casting and concentrating on the issues on some public takes.
This post will be used for reference in future posts on this blog. This post discusses racism. This post contains mature language.
Part One | Understanding: Permission, Author & Fandom
As a person who has been passively taking in fanwork for the majority of my life and not knowing it, I could not understand how it feels to be part of an hyper-active fandom. Nor did I understand how one feels to be in it.
The fandoms I have been a part of that I can compare to Interview with the Vampire is: Hannibal (HBO), Teen Wolf and Shadow Hunters.
By the time I came into the fandom it was already "dead" – meaning that the show had aired and 'finished' airing and not much discourse was around it. So what did I do to be considered part of this fandom and passively interacting?
Well I created pins, created Moodboards and watched some edits on YouTube and TikTok (when it became famous during 2020). And for a few of the fandoms I read Fanfics. Completed ones mainly mind you.
So imagine how unprepared I was going into Interview with the vampire fandom. Of course there was excitement. I was going to be one of those people that would see a Tumblr post on Pinterest and be able to say:
Tumblr media
Who wouldn't be excited? I was there when Cord of Communion by weathermood was written which is crazy to say now that I think about. One of the most loved and well known Interview with the vampire Fics. I was there when the Helen of Troy meme started. It was absolutely insane. I felt like someone who had invested in Bitcoin and feeding off its success.
But I was not part of the fandom who came from the original text. And I - as someone who held themselves in high regard to come from those who read the books before the movies came into existence - put them in high regard.
This did not last as I realised that those who I put on high regard did not in fact want me - a black person - in the fandom. Or at least that is how I felt. Just as I felt when Ariel was casted black. I was quickly losing interest in the fandom I so desperately wanted to be in.
Let's start from the beginning:
Tumblr media
On May 13, 2020 AMC announced that it entered an agreement to acquire Anne Rice's major literary works. It further continued to state in the article that Anne Rice herself was excited for her works to be represented so wholly and that she was more than satisfied with the deal. Anne Rice's son was also announced to be supportive and working alongside Rolin Jones.
It's acknowledged how big the franchise is with a large number of fans behind the works. This is said, paraphrased obviously, by Rolin Jones himself.
And I mean the guy is right. Damn is he right. Anne Rice works, especially The Vampire Chronicles in my experience, has a huge fan base. The Vampire Chronicles has, to this current date I'm writing in have over 3000 works on AO3. Has a different forum of Reddit from just the authors name to the works themselves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And let's not forget those on Tumblr from tags to people dedicated to the series and the author.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rolin Jones was making an adaptation of Anne Rice's works. Had permission to do so. Now before we go on let's look at the definition of Adaptation:
a film, book, play, etc. that has been made from another film, book, play, etc.: From Cambridge Dictionary.
A more descriptive meaning:
Tumblr media
I am a firm believer that this would have changed and avoided many harmful idealogies and actions in the fandom. But I digress.
A fandom is described as to a community of people who are passionate about something, whether it’s a film, a band, a television show, a book, or a sports team. (x)
A fandom is important because it provides opportunities to connect with other like-minded individuals. It also serves a purpose of allowing easy discovery from an interest into another range of interest. More importantly: Fandom can shape and influence decisions of the media and how they interact with the show. Along with the creative decision of the creator.
The fandom of Interview with the vampire was already established from The Vampire Chronicles. People had a predispositioned idea on what to expect. The fandom in this time were, to no surprise, predominantly white fans. Not to say that no POC existed within this fandom that they were not the majority.
At the time of the announcement it did not make many waves to the unsuspecting people in the outside world. But the Fandom took note of this. [Obviously] Conversations and interviews were watched and re-watched of Anne Rice throughout the years and comments were made. This was about 4 to 3 years ago.
The casting was not released. No one really knew what was planned for these shows and when they would be aired. At this time I was still in my Hannibal obsession and the only thing about Interview with the vampire was from a meme with a white man saying: Not gay enough. On my Pinterest board.
Tumblr media
So I cannot speak about my experience during this time in the fandom [though I do encourage people who were around this time to share your experiences with me if you want I'm curious how it was for different people] but the general consensus was trepidation and excitement.
I can understand this because not only did the fandom go around feeling like drug dealers in threat of getting busted by the police when writing and publishing Fanfic at the time but also Fanart and even Comics were made because of the love these people had for The Vampire Chronicles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The fandom had an already made up idea on what this would mean for them. One of these ideas was definitely NOT a Black, Creole, 4b haired and green eyed vampire. Almost completely different from white, raven-chin length hair and green eyed Louis. But I'm getting ahead of myself.
At this time I can only imagine how the fandom was feeling about the adaptation because as much I can do further research and deep dive into digital foot print I do not have that kind of time in my hands at this point in my life.
Anne Rice works, I will say again, were celebrated and she was held in high regard by supernatural-loving fans. She was – and still – seen as the Mother of Modern Vampires and the depiction in media. She has influenced many well known and famous Vampire media such as Twilight and True Blood.
So I'm left with only imagining how it somewhat felt like for people looking forward to Disney live actions and the Teen Wolf movie. [The fandom was large in size but apparently not large enough to be a few hours of Google search away to be able to find out about the discourse around this point in time.]
But AMC worked fast (kudos to them honestly) and the next year around August of 2021. They came out with the main casting and...
Jacob Anderson was announced as our [cherished and loved] Louis du Lac of today.
This made waves in the fandom and lit the seat of the loyal fans to write about the current happenings in their fandom to all media platforms. Tumblr, Reddit, YouTube, Twitter X, etc.
As much as there were hesitant joy over it and encouragement over the happenings there was also...a lot of upset over the fans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shortly after this announcement Anne Rice died in December of 2021 [RIP🕊️]. She and her son had been working closely on the adaptation with Rolin Jones. Anne was survived by her son who stayed in the process of the production. This will ultimately be both significant and insignificant in the grand scheme of things regarding the fandom's reaction to everything before the airing of the Pilot episode of Interview with the Vampire AMC.
At this time I was also still absent from the fandom. Or rather I should say I was being introduced to the Pilot episode through one fated AMC TikTok promotion edit.
I was not online as much and thus wasn't affected as much during that time. Unknowing of the discourse around the Casting and the upcoming trailers brewing. I simply just saved the TikTok in my favourites and promised to watch it for later.
Though I can understand and sympathise at a certain point with the upset over the casting choices because as a book reader I can understand we do kinda gatekeep shit. But only up to a certain point because I get over it fast.
I understand what an adaptation is and what it means. It will mostly never mean a direct copy and paste of the book.
The cards had been shuffled and handed out and the game was about to begin. Word got around and before the airing of the Pilot episode of what would be the one of the most influencial piece of media to me, the people's feelings were simmering and were ready to burst.
How the audience reacted would forever determine what the Fandom looks now and how people interpret the characters. Unfortunately, in the long run, this transformation was not positive. But some, to this day would disagree.
Part Two | Reactions: Anger, Joy & Racism → Coming Soon

~a round up post~
Here's where I keep all of my fanworks organized, mainly just for me, but also for you, if you want:
Interview with the Vampire
Devil's Minion Fic:
Love can not fill the thickened lung with breath, nor clean the blood: The interview ends, but there’s no rest for the weary for Daniel, and before he knows it he’s dragging his chronically ill body through another investigation of the past (this time his own). Meanwhile, Armand’s mask has fully slipped after Louis’s departure, allowing more of his emotions to seep through to Daniel than ever before. Something fragile and tender lies under all the buried trauma, broken logic of the five laws, and decades old anger, if Daniel and Armand can only find it. (Explicit, 47,329 words, complete!)
Belonging: After one of their fights, Daniel acts out and Armand uses his powers to (lovingly) remind him who he belongs to. Set somewhere in a 1970s Devil's Minion timeline. (Explicit, 3,377 words, complete)
Pure Ablution: “Stay with me,” Daniel was saying as he pushed himself up to sitting and took Armand’s face in his hands, pulling the standing vampire back onto the bed until he was kneeling over Daniel. “Please stay.” In another man’s mouth this plea would have been a command that Armand would have obeyed like a well trained dog. In Daniel’s if felt like a prayer, his hands moving over Armand’s jawline and into his hair with reverence. (Explicit, 2,903 words, complete)
Smart Boy: Daniel is looking for an escape from the generational curses he seems unable to stop himself from repeating, and Armand can help him forget. He isn't sure what makes Armand so interested in him- maybe Armand wants someone who can teach him about humanity or someone who will see past his old defenses. Or maybe Armand just wants a relationship where he can be fully in control. Either way, their strange arrangement works for them (until it doesn't). (Explicit, 14,982 words, complete)

This is gonna be an overly long story that nobody needs to hear, but here we go.
5 days ago (I think, I'm not sure, I deleted it) I got an ask that said, "Why are you pretending to know everything about Tumblr? Your blog is three months old!" In an extremely obnoxious and offensive way, you know, like trolls do. I deleted it, blocked them, it was over. Because, fuck you I don't have to explain myself! (Now I am going to hypocritically explain myself)
But I just had an interaction with an awesome person who I just met, and that's why I am still on Tumblr. So here is my Tumblr story.
I've been on Tumblr for years. I still had my first account until about 2 years ago. One of my RL family members found it, I have no idea how, and sent me a message like "Hi, this is Becky! What's all this about?" I just noped out immediately because if I wanted people in my RL family to know about the stuff I share on Tumblr, I'd share it on Facebook. I didn't even publicly say goodbye, just straight up ghosted my own Tumblr. If you want the username you can message me. I'm not even putting in on here because Becky.
But I also have other Tumblrs. My second oldest one is @keepxsolxinxsolxinvictus It is mainly for posting pretty pictures. I don't know how old it is, it's old.
But I found out from that Tumblr account that someone had found my old VC fanfic and was reading it and liked it. So I started this one to interact with this fandom because I still wanted to have my pretty picture Tumblr, and I didn’t want to give my followers there whiplash because "How did this become a Vampire Chronicles Tumblr overnight? I've been here for pretty pictures for years!"
So the take-aways from this are, IMHO it's a bad idea to answer hostile asks publicly because that's what they want. But also try not to let the asks get on your nerves because eventually you end up making a self-indulgent post like this.
You can change your Tumblr as your interests change (that's what it did with my first one) or if you have a theme going you can make side blogs or completely different Tumblr accounts. Do what you want.
If you can speak to your entire family the way you speak to your Tumblr mutuals, you are blessed, sweet summer child, never change.
But if you cannot do that without a lot of unnecessary hassles or long explanations (I have a sibling who has no idea what fanfic is and it would take literal years off of my life to explain it to her. Then she would want to know why anyone would do it. That's not even taking into account that most of my family is Conservative Christian, with all that that implies and means in America right now.) do not even let them know that you are on Tumblr, and if for some reason one of them finds you anyway, you can lie, ghost, or tell them to get the Hell out of your Tumblr, whatever works for you.
And, if I had a VPN installed on my 2018 desk computer, I could have lied more efficiently and none of this would be necessary.
