Part of the Backwoods AU

As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.

Walter’s presence grows routine, even if it still feels peculiar. Before, you saw him now and again when he dropped in to see your dad. He never seemed very social and that sense hasn’t changed. He comes, does his work, and politely accepts his dinner.

That day, a week since your father’s homecoming, you’re due to drive into town. You need to stop by the pharmacy for your mom and pick up a few staples from the grocer. You’re excited to get out, to distance yourself just for an hour or two from the sombre farmhouse.

You grab your purse, a wicker bag with a ribbon tied on the handle, and put a hat on to block out the beaming sunlight. The birds tweet in greeting as you fold your mother’s list into your pocket and head for the garage. The door is open already. Timothy always forgets to close it.

You jingle the keys and climb up into the old truck. You don’t drive it often, mostly traveling to town with your parents or brother. You prefer to walk most places, even if it is a bit far.

You put your bag on the passenger seat and turn the keys in the ignition. The engine putters then a loud bag makes you yelp. A plume of black smoke erupts from the slits on the hood of the truck and a rackety clunking churns in the motor. You let go of the key as you sit dumbfounded and watch the cloud grow.

You hear footsteps and suddenly the driver’s door swings open. You’re pulled out before you can react, put onto your feet and ushered back into the spring hue. You cough as you get a mouthful of smoke and turn to face the garage, Walter’s hand lingering on your back.

“Timothy,” he growls before he marches forward, “told that kid he was gonna start a fire.”

“I…”

“What’s going on?” Your brother dashes up as if he heard his name, “woah, holy cow.”

“What did you do?” Walter accuses.

“What? I fixed it,” Timothy shrugs.

“Damnit,” Walter growls and paces back and forth. “You’re lucky it didn’t catch fire,” he turns on your brother, “you’re lucky your sister didn’t get hurt.”

“Huh? What?” Timothy shakes his head, “I didn’t–”

“She was in there,” Walter’s voice rises tremulously.

“I’m okay,” you pipe up, “it’s fine, I just… can you fix it?”

Walter stops and faces you. His brow twitches in anger and he crosses his thick arms. He peeks over his shoulder then back at you.

“Not any time soon.”

“I can fix it.”

“Don’t touch it,” Walter snarls, “you leave better off alone.”

“Jeez, dad, calm down,” Timothy snipes dryly. He gets a dark glare in return and flinches visibly, “sorry, I–”

“Shouldn’t be joking about that,” Walter girds and pivots his attention back to you, “where were you going?”

“Just to town. I was gonna get some stuff from the store,” you explain.

“I’ll drive you,” Walter insists.

“Oh, uh, that’s fine. I can call Mr. Howland–”

“Don’t bother,” Walter waves you off, “running low on manure around here.”

“Oh,” you chew your lip, “right. Well, thanks, I’ll just grab my purse–”

You take a step towards the garage and Walter quickly blocks your path, “I’ll get it. You shouldn’t breathe that stuff in.”

You step back and nod. Walter rolls his shoulders and narrows his eyes at Timothy as he spins, “get back to planting. No time to waste.”

Walter stalks into the thinning smoke and you blink at your brother. He mopes and throws his hands up as he looks at you, “I was just trying to help.”

“I know, Tim,” you say, “better just get it done.”

“God, he’s a grumpy gus, isn’t he,” Timothy rolls his eyes, “sorry, sis.”

“I’m okay,” you assure him, “just go.”

“Hey,” he stops himself before he goes, “can you grab me smokes?”

“No,” Walter answers as he emerges, holding out your purse, “come on, better head out.”

Timothy huffs and tramps away. You take your purse from Walter with a sheepish smile. His anger makes you nervous. You’ve never seen him anything less than stoic. You follow him to his truck, parked just in front of the house and he opens the passenger door ahead of you.

The porch door swings open and shut. Before you can climb up into the truck, you mom rushes out, “everything okay?”

“Just some car troubles,” Walter calls back, “nothing I can’t fix.”

“Right, oh,” she looks over at the wisps escaping the garage, “fire?”

“Just smoke,” Walter returns, “I’m gonna take her to town, I’ll have a proper look when I get back.”

“I can call Vol,” your mother offers.

He grumbles and offers his hand. You let him help you up into the truck, the lift even higher than your dad’s. He waits for you to settle in before he shuts the door.

“All good, Maddie,” he shows his palm, “won’t be long at all.”

“Thank you, Walter,” your mother preens, “you’re too good to us.”

He nods and goes around the front of the truck. He hops in the driver’s seat with no effort at all and shuts the door. He buckles his seat belt, glancing over at you and you do the same. You clutch your purse and swing your feet over the floor.

“You alright?” He asks as he starts the engine and shifts.

“Yeah, I’m good.”

“Must’ve been scary,” he comments.

“Just a bit of a surprise,” you chirp, “but I’m okay. Er, thanks for… for saving me.”

“Saving you?” He scoffs.

“Yeah, I didn't really know what to do,” you laugh at yourself, “I'd still be sitting there staring like a deer.”

“Hmph,” the noise is close to a chuckle.

“What are we getting in town?” He asks.

“Oh, uh, pharmacy first,” you answer, “then I wanted to see if the market's selling honeydew.”

He hums and backs out. You hold onto the door as the truck rolls over the bumpy ground. It's not what you planned but it's still a break.

I'm glad Hazel's parents seem chill. They're not strict about "No sleepovers" or anything. They seem more involved than Timmy's (and holy cow, they're better at interactions with their daughter than Chloe's were with her).

Yeah, it's not like I ever doubted (because I loved Chloe's mental breakdown drama), but this and the dino episode are really cementing just how bad Clark and Connie were with parenting, sdkfj.

If Chloe tried to play with her parents at the museum, they'd totally shut down her giddiness and drag her into a lesson on naming or drawing dinosaurs. She'd seem hyped, but... Timmy would know. Timmy always knew.

I miss Timmy "will stay with you for an hour while you have a total breakdown" Turner... I miss the fairy step-siblings. Where's my boy?

... That is actually really interesting that I can't give Hazel a 50-years-of-frozen-time backstory. With Chloe, she blatantly raised herself on Fair Bears and I had a lot of other characters who got their lives screwed up by failing to emotionally mature or physically progress... but Hazel missed all that, so she's got Regular Childhood. And barring what I just said, I'm usually writing Fae in 'fics that span hundreds of thousands of years. Having such a limited timeframe to work with is... a new experience for me here.

Whyyyyy did Hazel and Jasmine not know who Wynn (sp?) is if they've been in the same class for weeks? (Hazel's over 100 wishes and mentioned weeks had passed during "Teacher's Pal"). Does this kid not talk to them? I thought they sat near Hazel, by the door? I'm pretty sure if I go back and look, this kid is 1 or 2 desks to her right.

Dev, don't you have better things to do than stalk Hazel and eavesdrop? This kid has issues. Tell me more.

I'm really glad we have a Dimmadome bully and not a Buxaplenty bully. Fingers crossed that Remy broke the abuse cycle, and also... the Dimmadomes are 100% known for butting into everything. I complained that he shouldn't stalk, but... he's a Dimmadome. Of course he's wandering around waiting for his chance to jump in for a line and brag about stuff.

"Hazard" is a very funny nickname for Hazel. Dev should keep calling her that.

This kid has insecurity issues about... his house? And/or being outclassed, but it's the house that seems to ruffle his feathers. The one thing Dimmadomes are known for is their big buildings. Hmm. Something's going on here...

I was going to make a joke about how Jasmine apparently didn't come over to Hazel's house despite their plans to play together, but Jasmine made it for me. Apparently she HAS been over and is sus. sdflkj.

Wynn is super nice. Hazel is being a creep sdkf.

Whoops, so much for the roof garden. Also, I like how the founder picture for the hotel is just Hazel in disguise.

His parents aren't at his party, huh? I see where this is going...

Either this kid's got a fairy - but he doesn't have brightly colored items or pets we've seen - or something is keeping him riding the border without tipping into miserable. We never got a canon reason why Tootie didn't have a fairy, though it's implied she can't keep her mouth shut and would endanger Fairy World. I wonder if those recording devices following him around are getting in the way, although that's probably not likely.

OR he's lost a fairy (similar to Remy gambling Juandissimo away), which would be hilarious. Imagine him getting a fairy and he's like "I don't want this. I have money."

I'm thinking he's got enough of his heart set in his pride and his things that he's finding enough joy to keep afloat, but I'm keeping an eye on him. Now that I'm thinking about it, Kevin Crocker with a fairy would've been funny. Then again, I kind of gave him Foop as a buddy... and even though he's the deadest kid inside, he was still pretty cheery.

Dev, however, does NOT give me cheery vibes. I'm sus.

Actually, I do not trust Fairy World to be functioning the same way it did in the old days, considering that enough time has passed for Cosmo and Wanda to retire and Jorgen to notably age. There WAS a fairy shortage in Season 10 - and so few Fairies left by Season 7 that they couldn't even fill the stadium when Timmy summoned them - so... hmm. Is he getting Cookie, who was actively looking for a godkid a few episodes ago?

If Fairy World's still under the same protocol it used to be, Jorgen's the only Temporary Fairy on-call, and we HAVE seen him introduced. Hmm...

I'm wondering if this is gonna be a Juandissimo comeback? He's got experience with rich kids, he IS a notable fairy from the early seasons (all the seasons), and he even loves bratty kids who don't listen to him to the point that he couldn't hold a job after losing Remy (because he was crying too much) and ended up defying Da Rules to return Remy's memories. Now that Wanda and Cosmo are so friendly in this portrayal, it could be really interesting to throw him in the mix again.

I liked when Cosmo showed him the "guest room" in "Jerk of All Trades" and then threw him in the freezer. Give me more of that.

This would be very unlikely since it's literally a deleted part of an early script, but... do I dare dream we see the return of "Juandissimo is terrified of only one person and it's Cosmo, whom he refers to as Wanda's cunning and calculating warrior husband?" That would be great! My dream. :)

I like how Cosmo in the OG series tolerated Juandissimo, claiming that he would tell him to stop flirting with Wanda, but he won't because he likes eating Juandissimo's food too much. 10/10 dynamic. It's so underrated; Cosmo's hilarious.

I'm loving early-vibe Cosmo and Wanda... do I DARE dream of a return with early-vibe Juandissimo? My super kind and polite boy who gets invited to at least 4 parties at Timmy's house, makes a point of letting Wanda talk to Cosmo before she makes decisions involving them alone in a room, and runs away at top speed when he clocks Wanda as not being able to consent to hanging out with him (because Cupid's love arrow?) Seasons 1-7 Juandissimo, my beloved... :')

I miss him.

My vague understanding is that this show is ongoing, probably multiple seasons if it does well, so I don't think they're wrapping it up at the end of Season 1... but if they did, I could definitely see a "Hazel gives her blessing for Cosmo and Wanda to go to Dev" plot, which would be an interesting direction (since we never got that kind of closure with Timmy and I doubt they'd do a share program plot twice).

It's kind of a shame we didn't get a separate reboot with the share program- That might've been better received than Season 10. Sparky could've been a shared fairy. Alas.

Okay, the chandelier in the helicopter being an inconvenience is a nice touch.

Rachel Bighead from Rocko's Modern Life

My friend and I were watching this in VC the other night and Rachel's probably my favorite example of how to "trans" a character, especially one that's been around for a long time, right. Nothing about it feels shoehorned or asspulled or like it was done to appease a board somewhere. Ralph's defining characteristic throughout Rocko's original run was being absolutely miserable all the time, no matter how much success in life he achieved, and so when we learn that he went off soul searching and discovered Rachel was the answer? It made perfect, beautiful sense.

Rachel's just...amazing. She's dry as ever, but unflappably confident. She's Ralph at perfect peace, and the journey we see the Bighead family go on? Bev's immediate acceptance, Ed's tearful epiphany that that little tadpole who damaged his retina is still right in front of him, and the three of them hugging? God, this part of the special was so good. Rachel's so good.

Also, I ship her with Rocko like whoa.

2. Grell Sutcliffe from Black Butler

I freaking love Grell. She's absolutely nuts, has an awesome design and a kickass weapon, and was surprisingly poignant and not-meanspirited considering the time period the show came out in. I love how the English dub has her give a kind of orgasmic bird squawk every time something goes right for her. 10/10, would support every last one of her woman's wrongs.

(Incidentally, Grell's one of the reasons it annoys me when people call me transmysogynist based off my opinions on Arcee, because let me tell you, I did my tour of duty back during the Grell Wars.)

3. Jerry/Daphne from Some Like it Hot

First of all, this movie's amazing and if you haven't watched it and don't know the very famous ending, go remedy that right now. And then chase it with this fic. I'll wait.

I'm firmly in the camp that believes Jerry/Daphne is genderfluid, and holy cow, is this a lovely little story of self-discovery and falling in love. It's just so special to me. It makes me smile like a damn fool every single time.

4. Fem!Shep from Mass Effect

Okay, this one's kind of cheating because Shepards are customizable and can be anything you want, but I loved the idea from the get-go. That's in part because fem!Shep's model still moves like male!Shep, and it's especially noticeable when she sits, but it also just kind of feels fitting with a lot of the dialogue options. In conclusion, my Shepard was great and I need to replay that game with Legendary Edition because I miss her deeply.

5. Maevaris Tilani from Dragon Age

Mae's wonderful on so many levels and she's a character I'm very excited to meet face-to-face in Veilguard. She's stunning, an absolute powerhouse, she's good friends with my my beloved Dorian, and her relationship with her late chubs hubby was beautiful. I'm pretty sure she's not going to be romanceable, but if she was, I think my Rook would be doomed.

6. Hana from Tokyo Godfathers

This movie's a treasure and so is Hana. I like that she's old, she's stubbly, she doesn't pass flawlessly, but by god, if anyone deserves to be a mom, it's her.

7. Angel from Rent

Another genderfluid character! At least, that's my best guess. I've always loved that we have no fucking clue exactly what flavor of genderqueer Angel is, that not even the cast seems unanimous on it.

I loved Rent when I was younger, thought it was so deep and profound, and it's kinda not but Angel was easily my favorite character. Still is.

8. The Laughing Cow and the Lactaid Cow

They're cows that don't have udders and they're gay and in love, I don't make the rules.

9. Anode and Lug

Transfem lesbian bots from RiD's (the comic run IDW Arcee is from) much more competently written sister series, they're a demonstration of how to do it right. I like that one transitioned medically and the other didn't. Anode features very prominently in my Arcee fix-it fic and I grew very attached to her while writing it.

10. Marco from Star vs. the Forces of Evil

I'm gonna level with you, I never actually watched this show. But I was very invested in this one back in the day and disappointed when it never came true.

Honorable mention: Art the Clown from Terrifier

While I don't exactly headcanon Art as transfem, there's a fic on ao3 that explored the idea and I kind of dug it. I could see Art much younger, with many possible futures laid out, and that being one of them. I think if something fundamental hadn't broken in his soul/brain, he would have been either trans or a fruity old drag queen, happy as a clam.

Mind you, this is all fanon talk. My jaw would hit the floor with horror if this became canon and Art would go straight on the pile of characters I get yelled at for "misgendering" because if I refuse to swallow rotten food.

Thank you! I try to lean into the cartoonish vibes as much as I can! It helps keep things a little lighter and, to me personally, more fun. I'm really tired of "gritty, grimdark" superhero stories that have come about in recent decades don't get me started on what they've done to Batman and even Superman (sob) so I try to make mine capture the whimsy and fun of "if I had powers, I'd use them to help" as much as I can

As for Tango's genius, I do really struggle with it, but thank you, I appreciate the compliment

Yeah, Tango freezing the cuffs to get out was, I'll admit, a little Elsa-from-Frozen but I didn't even think about Frozen when I was writing it XD I was just thinking "Oh some metal gets really brittle when it gets cold and Tango is cold and he can't freeze" so I did the same thing XD

I don't know why I made Jimmy a background artist, tbh. It just kinda suited him in my head. Not the center of attention but still an appreciated part of the process without which nothing would be as good and immersive. And I liked that for how Jimmy and Sheriff are in this universe. (And, yeah, Tango doesn't always understand what Jimmy's color analysis choices are but he enjoys it nonetheless)

Honestly I think ccTango is a lot more intelligent than he gives himself credit for and I'm perfectly content to perpetuate that in the fics I write. Because, yeah, holy cow that's actually a sheep, Tango /ref that math was fast. Like I can do long multiplication in my head too but not that fast

I just kinda got infected by Perfection/Saint and took a few weeks off every other project to get it finished and written but once it's done (and it's close) I will be going back to Healing Light 2 and Burn Out 2

Here's a fun fact about Ice Walls!Grian: there is one (1) very specific reason Grian decided to try having friends again after being mostly alone for thousands of years when a 14-year-old Jimmy declared that they would be friends. I might be toying with revealing it in Walls of Fire 2 though so I'm not going to say what that very specific reason was just yet (but if I don't include it for whatever reason, come yell at me and I'll tell you then lol). It had something to do with Jimmy and his personality, and that's all I'll say

Hello, everyone! In celebration of the New Year, I've decided to lay out a bit of a roadmap so people can see what's coming!

As many are aware, I had a poll up for some time regarding BTL's rewrite. I've started the process, which will be a lengthy one, but I'm super excited to revisit my first, biggest fic. 3 I can't wait to add more depth than there already is to it (alongside better writing). I will be reposting it rather than simply exchanging chapters, so stay tuned! It'll likely start coming out after Starfall ends.

Starfall is heading towards its finale this year! Clearly, I've not worked out all the kinks and it's nowhere near done entirely, but I fully hope/expect it to be finished by the end of 2025. That said, I hope everyone continues to enjoy it. It has a special place in my heart.

With those two notes in mind...here is a list of things to look forward to:

- Several rewrites, including but not limited to: BTL, Gasoline, NAIS, Oculto, Obsessive Impulsive, Paranormal (and its one-shot ending), TGOL, several one-shots, and a good chunk of Skinwalker and TSTAB!

-I am revisiting the Shattered Series (there was seriously something wrong with my teenage high school brain, holy cow that thing is something else and worrisome to my adult self).

-I am SUPER excited to announce In Tenebris is officially back in the works! It will be in line with the first edition that I deleted some time ago (which I regret immensely, but still have the old chapters of). It will be finished and take a very different route than where it was headed.

- I have plans to finish Yarrow this year.

- I have begun considering whether it might be worth sharing some of my most beloved pieces written for my own entertainment, including the rumored Seven Deadly Sins BanxOC fic I started years ago as well as a few fragments of my 300 page BNHA HawksxOC fic that somehow grew into a character of its own. I also have a LOT of ideas for some Helluva Boss/Hazbin Hotel works involving an OC. I might throw up a poll to gauge interest in these. ;)

- I also have some ideas for another big fic after Starfall finishes! I have yet to decide if I truly plan on writing/posting it, but we will see.

This whole song just reminds me of Bruce and his contingencies, like he's constantly prepared for any situation and he's had people who have gotten mad at him for it before.

God where do I even start? I want to write a whole fucking fic based off of this song and Dick Grayson.

In this case, he was bright eyed and innocent until his parents were killed in front of him. Then he became Robin, then Nightwing and this man went through fucking hell and he has survived.

Everyone sees Dick for his smiles and his kindness but this man should not be crossed by any means. He's fucking lethal and has gone through so much shit in his life and he's just not the same bright eyed, innocent kid he once was. And you should be scared of him.

Jason Todd--Robin

So technically this song is about Christopher Robin from winnie the pooh, but I think it also captures Jason really well.

I feel like this song focuses a lot on loss of innocence and growing up tbh, like the person this song is aimed at has no idea how hard the world is, how painful things can be but that they'll learn to handle it and bounce back. IDK the first time I heard it, it reminded me of how Jason believed that Robin is magic and maybe even like Bruce or Dick singing this to him knowing what was going to happen to him one day.

Tim Drake -- Clara Bow

okay, so there's not just one lyric that really sticks out to me but the overarching story that this song tells. It's all about being replaced with the next big thing. Taylor Swift is compared to Stevie Nicks who is compared to Clara Bow and one day T. Swift is going to be replaced with something shiny and new and that just reminds me of Tim.

Tim is the third Robin, he replaced Jason who replaced Dick and one day he himself is going to be replaced. There's a lot of HC where he's aware of this fact, that he knows that his role as Robin is not a permanent thing, that one day, he too will be replaced. And eventually, he is.

okay Cass was really hard for me at first to pin down what song fit her but then I listened to The Albatross and holy cow.

I don't know quite how to explain how this song makes me think of Cass except for how it just makes me think about how she decided to take her life in her own hands and become her own person. She was pretty much created with one thing in mind and that was all that was expected of her but she's become so much more than that. Now she's strong and powerful but in more ways than just how David Cain made her out to be. She's caring and loving and she's going to destroy the idea that she was ever just a weapon.

She rolls with the punches and she swallows it down and she smiles through it all and I just friggen love Stephanie Brown so much.

I just read Jaden in 5DS era AU and I want to know if that is part of the Yugi adopts Jaden AU or Canon Jaden.

Also about BBT in the Jaden Muto AU, what is Jaden feeling the entire time? It isn't everyday you team up with the younger self of your dad XD

The 5Ds era Au will probably be cannon Jaden.

I want it to be approachable to any reader. The Yugi Adopts Jaden au is going to have a lot going on in it already.

I also haven’t decided if Jaden will go home at the end of that Au. I think Jesse will come forward in time and they will join the 5Ds crew going forward. And if that is the ending, Jaden gaining new friends and now the “Robin” of the crew. Then I don’t know if I want to connect it to Yugi adopts Jaden since Jaden won’t come home. He’d miss having like 30 years with his dads and that’s super sad.

But let’s focus on your second question.

In the Yugi adopts Jaden Au the bonds beyond time movie is wild.

Because Jaden is currently traveling the globe. Helping out where needed and just finding himself again. He hears that Zane/Syrus’s cyber dragon has been stolen and he’s looking for it, when Jesse calls. Rainbow Dragon has been taken. That is not something Jaden can allow to happen.

Personally I love the idea that Jesse actually met up/ran into Jaden in Venice. Maybe he was looking for his friend. Maybe he was there for a tournament and bumped into Jaden. Maybe they arranged to meet there or Jesse was surprising his friend. (I’ve read some great fics like this)

Either way Jesse is with Jaden when Rainbow Dragon is stolen. Jaden watches as Jesse loses a member of his family and swears to get it back, rushing off before Jesse can follow.

By the time Jesse catches up the square is already destroyed and Jaden is already with Yusei.

But back to topic.

In this au Jaden mets Yusei and everything goes according to plan, until they travel back in time and met Yugi.

Holy cow is this weird for Jaden. That’s his Dad!! But he’s young and the millennium puzzle hangs around his neck and Jaden knows what that means. This is back when Yugi and Atem shared a body.

But Yugi is crying because Grandpa is dead? And the whole square blew up. Jaden’s head is spinning. Gramps can’t be dead! No that’s not right. Gramps had just called him not even a week ago and the old man was still as sharp as ever. He couldn’t be dead.

Worse this is Yugi before he adopted Jaden. Jaden didn’t know it at the time, but now that he’s the same age that Yugi was when he adopted him Jaden understands how much Yugi sacrificed to take him in. To be his dad. And he knows a lot of that was only possible because of Gramps. Sure things changed when Oto-san and Dad got married but earlier on it was Yugi and Solomon taking care of him. Atem to after he adjusted to living in the modern era.

If Gramps died then would Yugi even be able to take Jaden in? Would they even meet? And he feels awful for think it. After all he shouldn’t be thinking about himself right now. But his whole reality depends on this one going right.

Plus he hates seeing his dad cry.

Paradox had stolen Jesse’s family member, killed Jaden’s great grandpa and made his dad cry. Jaden’s going after him with all he has.

The duel itself is awesome. Dueling along side Yugi and stem when they shared a body is so weird yet also one of the coolest things ever because he can see both their strategies at play and how the seamlessly blend them.

Yusei is an amazing duelist to and Jaden is honestly having the time of his life fighting beside them. He’s going to have to make it a goal to meet Yusei again.

They win and Jaden gets returned to his time (successfully) and says goodbye to Yusei. (They will met again)

He mets up with Jesse to return Rainbow Dragon and tell him about his adventure. While doing so he realizes he needs to call to people. He calls grandpa first just because he wants to make sure the old man is alright. (He’s just fine and over joyed to hear from Jaden) second he calls his dad and Uncle Atem.

He tries to dance around it but the both just laugh and say that they remember him. It’s really weird. They didn’t have these memories before today. But whatever alternate reality Jaden and Yusei had stopped from happening by meeting up with Yugi must have merged with their own.

Yugi didn’t seek Jaden out because of their duel against paradox. Their meeting was complete accident or fate depending on how you want to see it. But now that he has those memories he, Jaden and Atem can all discuss the duel and Yusei.

“I’ve never been to a dance before, Bobby, I'm not even sure I know how.” You said, walking into the barn-turned dance hall.

“You’ve got nothing to fear, just follow my lead. Holy cow, you look perfect in that dress.” He grabs your hand as you walk in.

You and Bob wander around the hall, saying hi to people you know, dancing to the songs you like, and getting the best food from the snack table.

“Time for a slow dance, let’s take it back a little bit, ‘97, Kiss Me,” the emcee announces as lights dim and you take to the dance floor.

"Dance with me?" Bob asked, offering his hand.

You’ve known Bob Floyd forever. Ever since his family moved in next door to you in your little midwestern town. It felt right, natural even, putting one hand on his shoulder as his went to your waist. The song played, but all you could pay attention to was his eyes and keeping him close to you. You wanted the moment to go on forever.

When the song ended, you both decided to walk outside and get some fresh air. The wheat fields gleamed in the moonlight as you sat down on an old fence next to him.

Well, I dunno about violently shitting my pants lol but I do remember the first time I read Dearly Departed by notOK on Ao3 I had to set it down for a good ten minutes so I could speed-walk/run around the house and scream to my self for a bit

It’s for a certain AU where the protagonist dies in the first chapter without ever surviving their canonical inciting incident, I had read a ton of this trope for this fandom so I was pretty familiar with how it goes.

Except, it was from the perspective of death itself. Death that was curious and gentle and despite its hesitation so, so kind. And for little me, it absolutely blew my mind

Incidentally, that fic ended up being major interaction I had with an author and the first time I sent fanart for a fanfic

So there was no violent pants shitting but holy cow that fic had me in a, pardon the pun, death grip for weeks. I’m pretty aware that I don’t react normally/neurotypically to media- this is one of the more intense reactions I remember having

so if by chance you read all the email subject lines in zara's inbox in hello operator (idk the exact chapter rn), you'll notice one from jace in vp mode being like "final fac mtng on monday..."

this in my head is the Big one. the mtng after everything goes down w the rat grinders and the bad kids and porter and jace etc etc. no I am not fussed about specific timeline issues. moving on.

and all throughout hello operator, we see in the margins that the Plan is building up, following loosely the events of fhjy, and zara knows, and is choosing not to do anything bc she is so incredibly confident they'll fail. which sure is a Choice holy shit.

anyway.

after all that, in my head there is a fic (either sequel or coda to hello operator) wherein jace is revived, Porter is...I'll come back to that, and they both have to attend the fac mtng that Monday. so does zara, who was worried out of her mind about jace and is considering making good on her promise to steal him away from porter to keep him in leviathan. (time to plug my hc that zara's celestial paramour is Bob from pirates of leviathan's mom. let her be poly and messy and also. Woman.)

bc aguefort is back, right? and he's already hard pressed to find teachers bc, as hello operator will not stop yelling, the working conditions at aguefort are Awful. there's a mortality rate. Yikes.

and I think in aguefort's eyes (and here I'm thinking of the final scene in fhjy w gorgug and aguefort) that faculty being "a little evil" is a feature not a bug, and that quite honestly this was a tame (and lame) plan compared to, say. kalvaxus. so he's not fussed about rehiring resurrected jace, nor is he fussed about just sending porter to a series of prof dev seminars (which tbh could be their own fic) about not killing your students for your own research goals.

so like. I'm so so curious what the zjp of it all would look like, if zara would actually be pissed or just amused, bc she took one look at the no wizard no rogue plot and was like. this is batshit. see you in urgent care. if jace feels betrayed or like. vindicated, bc at least he saw things all the way through. at least he got to die for his god again. and he didn't even die permanently!! show me a permanent phase of the self, z. if porter is cowed or humbled, or just sort of aghast at what he's done, or whether this is what finally makes him be like ok. so old approach didn't work (bc it finally had consequences for me personally, fuck everybody else who said things sooner) time to try a new one. and idk what that would look like but GOD do I wanna find out.

I am so late in answering this, but I hope that I can give some recs that make up for it!

I read 'Of Ribbons and Barbarians' by SainTalia for the first time recently and holy cow it was SO GOOD. Sansa is a Tully who marries the king in the North, Jon Snow, and it is DELIGHTFUL. Tons of court intrigue, the medieval accuracy that GRRM wishes he had, and a very smitten and protective Jon. There are so many names and alliances to keep straight and I am consistently amazed at how well the author handles it.

Also by SainTalia, 'Come Down Like an Avalanche' Which is an utterly delightful modern AU where a forest ranger Jon rescues Sansa and Lady from an icy car wreck. Comfort, cuddling, and emotions ensue during a very bad winter storm. Also, Ghost is horny as hell and completely besotted with Lady and it's absolutely hilarious.

'A Fairytale Ending' by @cellsshapedlikestars contains so many delightful things it would be hard to list them all. Sansa responds to a dating profile that requests a fake date for a wedding- Jon's ex is marrying his brother and the family drama only gets juicier and more dysfunctional from there. At the same time, pining ensues between Jon and Sansa.

Also by @cellsshapedlikestars, 'You on the Run', which is another modern AU that begins with Sansa being kidnapped by Jon and a motley crew of Night's Watch members. Not everything is as it seems, however, and the mystery that unravels is so so good. Honestly, anything by @cellsshapedlikestars is going to knock your socks off.

'You Mean You Forgot Cranberries Too?' by magneticwave is a favorite. A modern AU where Jon and Sansa keep encountering each other by chance and the Stark shenanigans are fully dialed up to 11. Also, there's genetics. This is one of the funniest, wittiest, most delightful fics i've ever read, and I hope it makes you cackle out loud the way it does for me.

And saving the best for last: 'The Weirwood Queen' by RedWolf. Just FYI, this isn't a Jonsa fic. It is genuinely one of the best fics I've ever read, and I'm fully obsessed with it. It's Sansa-centric, and follows the aftermath of Lady's death, when Sansa makes a plea to the old gods. They hear her, and everything changes. It is just so so so incredibly good- I can only hope to be a fraction of the writer that RedWolf is, and I devour every update.

Holy cow, that's a lot of red lighting on the pudding. I don't think I'm watching this one again, but I'm enjoying the plot itself.

This is what reality is like when you jump the border to Retroville. Everything looks bulgy, but in reality... you're still flat. I especially like how reality morphs to fit the FOP style, like the pink hair flipping around. I think I've seen someone with their haircut like that in the old show, though I forget who, so that would imply they wear it like the first picture.

Unreasonably funny to me that Dev's glasses shine - usually a classy blue - becomes much duller when it switches to "actual FOP style." His coolness factor drops. I love it.

Update:

Today made me realize that things will be hard to balance. Work and writing, work and daily necessities, work and studying, work and other hobbies, work and family/friends, work and life... yeah, work is now a big part of my life (again) and this will most likely hinder me from releasing smuts and other stories at this quick pace I had before.

What once was like 1-2 smuts per week, will now quickly become 1 per 2 weeks... maybe even slower, especially for bigger projects. I hope you all can understand this. I hate to slow down my progress, especially right before such a big celebration. It's just gonna be hard.

Sadly, I also lost this insane drive I had during my time studying for the exams. I pumped out so many words, multiple fics, and now looking at these docs is tough.

Anyways, I hope you can understand this and remain patiently for new fics. This is NOT a hiatus announcement. Smutty thoughts always linger somewhere in my mind. But if I take longer to put something out, don't be shocked.

Doylist perspective: Remus tells Harry off for going to Hogsmeade to make readers question why he is kind of intense about his parents’ sacrifice and to build suspense about the later reveal he knew them. He stays silent about Sirius to make it more ominous that Sirius keeps getting inside Hogwarts and to build suspense over Sirius actually being innocent; plus, Harry needed to encounter Sirius on an ✨adventure✨ as opposed to a boring meeting somewhere like Dumbledore’s office

Watsonian perspective: Remus believes Sirius to be a genuine and impending threat to Harry’s life, but remains silent over a possible way Sirius could be entering the school and stays silent about knowing James and Lily possibly to avoid Harry becoming attached to him; he values Dumbledore very highly and would rather believe Sirius is so powerful and learned so much from Voldemort that Sirius knows ways of getting in the castle nobody else could fathom than confess to Dumbledore he and his friends engaged in risky behaviors.

I understand that JKR needed suspense for the plot and that Remus can’t bring himself to confess to Dumbledore that Remus betrayed his trust*, but holy cow does Remus not look good. It would be one thing if he always had doubts over Sirius’s guilt and didn’t think he was an actual threat to Harry, but that’s not the case, he knew something Sirius could theoretically use to dodge everyone and stayed silent, fully thinking Sirius wanted Harry dead.

*Although, I’m not so sure Dumbledore would’ve cared, given everything going on in that school. Students were being petrified and he did not even notify their parents. Imagine being a muggle and asking your magical kid what they learned at their magic school, only to learn your kid was in a coma for months, did not die solely because of the sheer luck of looking at the reflection of a monster rather than directly at it, and you knew none of this. Also, one of the teachers wiped their own memory and the whole monster situation got resolved due to two 12 year olds; the now-amnesiac teacher lost their memories via trying to erase those kids’ memories and turned out to be a fraud. I would move to France

Oh, yes, 100% Dumbledore did not care. There's soooooooooooooooo much wrong with that school, let's be honest. It's why I don't really understand fics where Sirius sends Harry to Hogwarts. Why???? If Sirius raised Harry, he would send him to LITERALLY ANY OTHER wix school in the world, or just homeschool him. I like to think that Hogwarts is the one wix school that all the other schools are looking at like "what the fuck is happening there????"
