Hi! I hope youâre doing really, really well, beautiful. So, I was wondering if you could write something about what the COD guys would be like on their wedding day. Maybe how their weddings would goâwhether theyâd be big or small, or where theyâd get married? Iâll leave it up to your imagination. Thanks so much!!!đ¤đ^^
what a lovely thing to imagine <3
(sorry i am getting to these so late, i've been so incredibly busy bc i forget that im somehow an adult and i have to do adult things, there's just kind of a lot on my plate rn, if only yâall could see the mess my desk is in with trying to write and the paperwork everywhere but this was so fun to write tysm for this ask <33)
đŠâĄđŞ Headcanon: Their Wedding Day
༢ུ· Price, Ghost, Soap, Gaz, Roach, Alejandro, Rudy, Phillip Graves, Makarov, Keegan, König, Horangi, Nikto
Price
I'd like to think that Price would have a pretty big wedding, I mean just think of all the people he knows and has met along the years coming to celebrate this day, there's some people he's close with and even consider his family, of course they won't miss out on this opportunity to be there for him, the speeches would take forever because everyone wants to say something
He's just so happy on this day that he can't think of anything else, he doesn't care about whether the wedding is at a venue, church, barn, outdoors, he just cares that everything turns out alright, so he'll be perfectly fine if you decide to go with something simpler
If you're nervous while walking down the aisle he'll be waiting for you at the altar, smiling and looking at you the entire time, gazes meeting and transmitting a warmth and calming energy that everything has and will turn out just how you want it
He just considers himself the luckiest man alive to be able to marry you
Ghost
His wedding wouldn't be big, something on the more average/small size, he has his close friends by his side and doesn't want to bother inviting anyone else he hasn't talked to in the past year, he knows exactly who truly cares and who deserves to be there
He'd groan seeing Johnny stand up to give a speech knowing he's about to sit through some embarrassingly horrid stories this man is about to spill
That is unless you have a lot of people you know, he wouldn't be at all against you inviting your share of people to the wedding he just doesn't want the reception to last too long to the point he's feeling more drained or stressed on the joyous occasion
After the ceremony and eating he'd be fine for MAYBE three hours max before suggesting y'all sneak off and just go to your room for the night, doesn't give a single fuck that it's his wedding he's going to let the guests have their fun while you have yours a little earlier than what you planned
Soap
He'd be nervous on the day, he's standing there, nervously smiling as he fidgets with his fingers, fixing his tie, his eyes wandering about the room until he hears the crowd gasp and he looks to the other side and sees you standing there, he is in awe of how you look, and when you get to stand in front of him he tells you how breathtaking you look, you jokingly ask if you don't always look breathtaking and he responds that you look especially radiant today
He's so lost in your eyes that when he has to answer "I do" he doesn't even hear the question, his mind not registering anything other than how stunning you look, the crowd laughs when he has to snap out of it and stammer an "I do"
When he goes in for the kiss he goes a bit too far and it almost turns into a heated kiss but you have to tap his shoulder reminding him that there's probably a kid or two among the guests
He is so happy he doesn't even care who is or isn't amongst the crowd, that lame ex of yours who somehow snuck in when you didn't even invite him? He barely bats and eye at it and just pulled you close for a kiss whenever they came near
Gaz
Both of you just keep sharing deep, meaningful looks as you see all the people you're the closest with arriving, he probably gets emotional when he was trying his best trying to keep it in and not lose it while he listened to your say your vows, especially when you momentary look up at him to say it
And he's waiting for when the officiant says he can kiss you so he can reach out, one arm around your waist and another cupping your face as he places a tender kiss on your lips just so when he pulls back you see the brightest smile on his face
I think a beach wedding would be ideal for him, idk he just seems like the outdoorsy type, and this is the best place he could come up with when asked where he'd like to get married, that or maybe in the mountains where he can see the beautiful scenery as you say yours vows
He'd love it if you watched the sunset together that day, as if nature were also sealing this promise between you, the scenery would one day serve as a nostalgic memory on which he can think back fondly of, everything from the soft breeze in the air, whether it be the sound of waves crashing as they reach his feet at the beach or the smell of pine trees in the mountainside
Roach
Omg y'all would would the cutest outdoor wedding, just imagine having it in a garden or by a beautiful lake with the golden sun that shines not in a harsh way but instead in a pleasant manner
And you both have your little quirks added in here and there, you compliment each other super well in that aspect that it's not even seen as unusual if the other references something because you totally get it
He'd have imagined this a million times, the night before he rehearsed his vows over and over again, he doesn't look up quotes or what to say, no this man lies on the floor and waits for the words to come to him, and the phrases that he writes come so naturally that he's having a hard time keeping it on only one sheet of paper
He'd probably go off the script, saying more than he intended until you're having to control yourself before you tackle and press kisses all over his face from now much you love him
He closes his eyes and feels incredibly lucky to have lived long enough to meet you and survive long enough through those missions to earn his moment of happiness that he hopes will last for the rest of his life
Alejandro
Have you heard of Mexican weddings? Anyone who finds out about the wedding is attending even if they werenât originally invited and that last bit of dancing and drinking? It could go on until the next day
Forget getting any sleep, there is so much to stress over because the amount of people arriving could almost count for a festival itself, so much food is being prepared for all the guests that itâs overwhelming
And Alejandro would love every second of it, itâs all fun having so many people come together to celebrate and wish you all a happy marriage
The ideal place for Alejandro to get married would be at a cathedral, obviously it's only an option but it's where he's remembered weddings traditionally taking place at since he was a kid, he's always imagined it'd be him one day walking through those doors after getting married and having people throw rice at him as a newlywed
He behaves himself most of the time but as the evening turns into night his fingertips brush along your sides and you feel his breath on your nape as he whispers naughty things into your ears
Rudy
I'd like to imagine that Rudy would let you invite as many or as little people as you'd like, he wouldn't put a limit to any of it, and when you start getting stressed over wedding preparations he's able to just hold your hands in his and remind you how lucky he is to have you marry him, that anything will do and that it will all be a memory one day, so why worry and instead focus on making it a delightful one?
And after all the partying and celebrating, you're both left standing there alone in the venue, he takes your hand gently, his eyes gazing softly into yours as you dance to a song that he saved for only the two of you to dance to alone, I can imagine it being a song you listened to on the first date as he drove you home and now it's playing on your wedding day
You've probably held hands all day, from the moment you joined hands when at the altar, to walking down the aisle, to entering the dance floor for the first dance, and while you're both off to the side just sipping your drinks and still holding hands
But he wants to take a moment after all the guests have left to bask in this moment and soak in the feeling, asking you if everything turned out to your liking, just imagine laying in his arms as he holds you and you're both stargazing; a serene end to your night
Phillip Graves
The biggest, fattest wedding you can think of, everyone and their mothers are there, or in this case his Shadows and possibly anyone who's had at least one interaction with him, he's practically announcing it to the entire world
And I may be stereotypical when I say this but it's a barn wedding, the amount of times I've seen southern people go for barn weddings is insane I can't- my old riding place hosted those
It's beautiful nonetheless, he doesn't care who ends up going or not but all his Shadows are more than enthusiastic to celebrate with their boss, they've been teasing him nonstop since they found out he was dating you and now they won't stop especially since you're getting married
Tons of gifts and presents that you receive you swear you probably won't ever have to buy anything ever again, this is THE wedding that no wedding you've attended before or you'll attend in the future will ever compare to, it's that picture perfect that the venue owners ask to use the pictures on their website for advertisement
Makarov
I really feel like he'd be more the type to have it be a private wedding, that doesn't mean it isn't luxurious if anything he doesn't have a budget at all when trying to make you happy, he just leaves all the choices up to you, as long as you don't get stressed, the actual wedding planning is left to a wedding planner he hires you just have to sit there, look pretty and choose what ribbons you think would go best with the theme
As the wedding date approaches he gets more serious, and you worry he'd rethinking this whole thing or maybe he's stressed? On the day of turns out he had planned surprise after surprise for you, even though you thought you had been the one to choose most of the wedding theme and decoration turns out he himself had gone out and done a few things as well
He'd have hired a live band to play the music of your choice as you walk down the aisle, you're mesmerized by how it turned out, the adornments make the place look beautiful, but while you're admiring all this you don't notice him looking at you, you're the most extraordinary person he's met and he'll get to spend the rest of his life with you
Keegan
You guys eloped, originally the plan had been for a small, private wedding, you already had the list of people you would invite, but halfway through planning it you both stopped, looked at each other and just threw the plan away, you married with an officiant and two witnesses who happened to walk by
Even if people told you that you would later regret not having planned and waited for a big wedding you're the happiest you've ever been in this moment, the excitement rushing through not only yours but his veins that make every small detail seem perfect in this moment
People are probably wondering if you're both insane as you run together hand in hand down the streets, laughing and just happy that you're being carefree in this moment, just two souls in the expanse of this universe who have formed a deep connection in one another, what's not to be joyful about?
The future may be uncertain but it doesn't matter to neither of you, you've both had your difficult times but you deserve your happy epilogue
KĂśnig
He's not one for big weddings, he cares more about the quality of it, which means he's very picky at the people who'll attend, he knows that at these events people tend to try and have their way when it's not even theirs, he simply doesn't want to deal with any unpleasant surprises when people he doesn't even know show up
When you appear he thinks there is no heaven greater than the one he is experiencing now, he thinks about all the chances there were before and now fortunate he is to meet you in your time and find each other when the world is so vast and time is fleeting
The vows he says in front of everyone are different from the ones he says only for you to hear in private that night, that's when he truly gets to be honest and say what he couldn't in front of all those people
There are many lovers in the world but none like you
Horangi
He's super passive about everything, you're sort of annoyed that he can never be bothered to worry about anything as much you do, colors for the wedding theme? He just shrugs and says a horrid color combination that could never work, it took him a three minutes max to choose what he would wear, BUT THEN on the day of when you're both in your separate rooms getting ready he's trying to get himself together because he's so overwhelmed by all the emotions he's experiencing right now
I think overall the wedding wouldn't be neither too big nor small, just the right amount of people from his side that are family members who have supported or come around to support him on this occasion and members he's close to
He's able to pull himself together though and try not to let his emotions get the best of him, he gets quite into the dancing along with you he swears he's never before felt as alive in the moment, he's grateful he was able to get his life together for you
Nikto
He wouldn't say anything about how he wants the wedding to be, whether it's big or small that's up to you, he doesn't care who you invite either, just as long as his favorite foods are served and he gets to enjoy good music for a little while before heading home with you is all that matters, oh and drinks, don't forget the alcohol
At some point throughout the night he sits back and watches as you dance with a friend of family member of yours and he thinks how funny it is that he ended up marrying you, when he first met you he couldn't have imagined that a single interaction with you could have let to this lifechanging moment
He can sleep calmly with you by his side, in his arms, safe and with no one to harm you if he's there, he may not admit it but this marriage only means he'll be like velcro to your side, that line he had always dreamed of securing? It'd be hard to get away from him
As long as this world continues he'll gladly be stuck with you, you've accepted him not matter how broken and scarred he is and he'll spend the rest of his life demonstrating with acts how much you mean to him, after all, it is the little things and acts in life that have made it truly worth living

Tommy finds Buck sitting alone on the rooftop of his apartment building in the dead of night, a blanket draped around his shoulders, a half-empty beer bottle beside him. Itâs freezing, and the city below hums with life, but up here, itâs just the two of them.
Neither of them has spoken in months. The kind of silence that isnât just about words but about everything left unsaid.
Tommy stands there for a moment, unsure. Buck doesnât look over, just exhales, a cloud of breath visible in the cold air.
âYou shouldnât be up here alone.â
Buck lets out a humorless laugh. âYou shouldnât be here at all.â
Tommy swallows.
He could leave.
Maybe he should.
But instead, he says, âYou called me.â
Buck finally turns, his eyes tired, hollow in a way that Tommy isnât used to seeing. Like heâs been holding something heavy, something breaking him from the inside out. âI didnât mean to.â
Tommy offers a small smile. âYeah, you did.â
Buck looks away, gripping the beer bottle like it might hold him together. His voice, when he speaks, is quiet. Fractured. âI kept telling myself I was fine. That I was getting better.â He lets out a shaky breath. âMaddie is safe now, and Chimâs taking care of her. Eddie is probably happy with Chris, just like he should be. And youâŚâ
âMe?â
Buck laughs, but itâs a hollow sound. âYouâre fine, too. Youâre always fine I guess.â He shakes his head, staring out at the city. âSo why am I the only one who still feels like this?â
âBuckââ
Buck cuts him off, his voice breaking. âTonight, I justâI donât know. I just needed to hear your voice.â
Tommy exhales sharply. âSo you called.â
Buck nods. His knuckles go white around the bottle. âYeah.â He laughs bitterly. âAnd the worst part? The second you picked upâbecause of course you did, I didnât know what to say. I justââ He shrugs, his voice breaking. âI just wanted you.â
Tommy's chest tightens like someoneâs squeezing the air out of him. He looks away, gripping the edge of the rooftop like it might anchor him. He shouldnât say it. He knows that. But itâs late, and itâs cold, and Buck is sitting here looking like heâs one wrong word away from falling apart.
So, against all his better judgment, Tommy whispers, âOkay, say it now.â
Buckâs breath catches. He looks at Tommy then, like heâs searching for something. A reason. A lifeline.
The wind howls, and for the first time in months, Buck speaks the truth. âI miss you.â
Tommy closes his eyes. He didnât want this for Buck when he left. He thought walking away would make it easier, that Buck would be fine, that heâd move on, be happy. But hearing it nowâfeeling it in the way Buckâs voice breaksâit just feels like he got everything wrong.
He hesitates before sitting down beside him.
Tommy barely has time to settle before Buck leans into him, his head dropping against Tommyâs shoulder like he doesnât even have the strength to hold himself up anymore.
The breath Buck exhales is unsteady, like heâs been holding it in for too long, like heâs afraid to let go completely. His fingers tighten briefly around the bottle before going slack, the tension in his body melting away, even if only for a moment.
Tommyâs eyes catch on something next to the beer bottlesâa small plate of cookies, untouched, sitting on a napkin.
He frowns. âcookies?â
Buck exhales, a quiet, humorless laugh. âYeah, I made them.â A beat passes. Then, without looking at him, Buck shrugs. âBefore I called you.â
Tommy doesnât know why that sticks with him. Why it feels heavier than everything else.
He doesnât ask about it. But something about them feels sad.
And instead of leaving, he reaches for Buckâs hand. He doesnât say it backânot yet.
But he stays.
#this is a fix-it#should i tag this fluffebruary? head on the shoulder leaning in hand holding... you see đŤśđť#tim wants buck to go through it so okay ig#but tommy have to show up for him#bucktommy#tommy kinard#evan buckley

New Neighbor
Label 18+
Summary Your new neighbor is a hot fit biker. The strong silent type, and all you can think about is how to make him yours, because you love a challenge, and you always get what you want.
â¤ď¸âđĽPassionate Smut â¤ď¸âđĽ Handsome new neighbor â˘Female in heat ⢠promiscuous girl ⢠teasing ⢠Benny playing hard to get ⢠trying to dominate Benny ⢠manhandled by Benny ⢠rough sex ⢠size kink⢠girl on top ⢠P in V ⢠doggy style ⢠rendered senseless ⢠orgasms ⢠after care
New Neighbor
The first time you catch a glimpse of your new neighbor moving in, you nearly drop the tray of muffins in your hands.
God, was he hot.
Standing at least 6â ft broad-shouldered with muscled arms exposed under a sleeveless tee, he looked like heâd been carved straight out of some sinful fantasy.
His sandy brown hair was just long enough to curl at the ends, and that goatee? Pure rugged perfection. Add in piercing blue eyes and the Harley parked outside, and you were officially a goner.
He didnât seem like the chatty typeâstrong, silent, mysterious even. And if there was one thing you liked, it was a challenge.
You watch him from your kitchen window longer than you intended before deciding theres no way in hell were you going to let the other nosy neighbors get to him first.
You threw together a welcome basket, just an excuse to knock on his door, and maybeâjust maybeâsee if those biceps felt as good as they looked.
Before heading out, you made sure to tug your top down showing just enough cleavage to grab his attention, then with your heart racing and confidence high, you knocked on his door, basket in hand.
A moment later, the door swung open, and there he was, leaning lazily against the frame, his eyes sweeping over you with keen interest.
Up close, he was even hotter âunfairly good-looking, with a slow, knowing smile that knocked every damn word right out of your mouth.
âHey,â he drawled, his voice deep and smooth. âWhatâs this?â
You blinked up at him, your brain scrambling to function.
âI, uh⌠welcome basket.â You shoved it toward him wide eyed and breathless.âJust a âlittle something to welcome you to the neighborhood.â
His gaze sweeps over you, lingering just enough to send a heat rushing through your veins. âNice of you,â he says, taking it from your hands. âNameâs Benny.â
Your lips curve into a flirtatious smile seeing heâs interested. âIf you need anything, Benny, donât hesitate to ask.â you add, your eyes shamelessly wandering over his biceps. âAny little thing you can think of.â
Bennyâs brows lift, and that damn handsome smirk widens even more. âI can think of something right now,â he says stepping aside and ushering you in.
You donât hesitate, walking inside as he shuts the door behind you.
The place is neat, though distinctly his- a leather jacket draped over a chair, a duffel bag half-unpacked in the corner, and tools spread across the kitchen counter. His riding gloves sit beside an open beer, and a stack of mail is tossed haphazardly on the table.
âNice place,â you say, sliding onto a stool as he hands you a beer.
âDidnât think Iâd be entertaining this soon,â he smirks, leaning against the counter.
âAm I entertaining?â you tease, taking a sip.
âOh, youâre somethinâ,â he drawls, his gaze lingering on you as you cross your legs, playing up the way your skirt rides up just a little higher than whats modest.
The conversation flows easily, filled with teasing remarks and stolen glances. Benny watches you with a knowing smirk as you lay it on thick, your hand occasionally brushing his arm, your smile lingering as you look at him through your lashes.
At one point, he chuckles, shaking his head. âYou donât hold back, do you?â
You tilt your head innocently. âWhy should I?â
He exhales a laugh, running a hand through his hair. âWoman after my own heart.â
You look away grinning. âAnd something more.âyou admit finishing your beer.
His smirk deepens and thereâs something different in the way he looks at you, something careful despite the obvious heat between you.
Heâs holding back for such a hard man, with all his strength and rugged intensityâ and you can tell.
When you finally leave, youâre half-disappointed he didnât bend you over the counter and render you senseless like you wanted.
But it was fineâyou liked a slow burn, and by the way his eyes lingered on you as you walked away, you had no doubt he was thinking about you, just as much as you were thinking about him.
The sound of Bennyâs Harley rumbling to life jolts you awake. You scramble to the window in the morning, watching as he straddles his Harley, his muscles flexing under his tee. He looks like a goddamn dream, and you bite your lip, watching him drive off.
Today was the day. You were gonna look cute, you were gonna see him again, and this time, he wasnât gonna be able to resist you.
You throw on the tiniest pair of shorts you own, tie a tee at the waist, and step outsideâonly to realize the sky has darkened and the air is heavy with moisture.
A drizzle starts, and as you glance toward Bennyâs porch, you spot his laundry still hanging on the line.
Then, like the universe is testing you, the sky opens up.
âShit,â you mutter, dashing toward his laundry, snatching towels and jeans off the line as the rain soaks through your own clothing in the process.
Youâre hauling an armful of damp clothes toward his door when the rumble of his engine startles you.
Benny pulls up just as you reach the porch, dismounting smoothly. He takes one look at you, drenched and clutching his laundry, and smirks.
âThatâs cute,â he says, striding over to help.
âI wasnât gonna let your stuff get ruined,â you insist stepping inside as he holds the door open for you.
He follows, shaking off the rain as you both drop the clothes onto the counter. The air between you shiftsâhumid and thick with something unsaid.
You glance at him, both of you soaked, his shirt clinging to the hard lines of his chest as he watches you, the water dripping down your form, your shirt practically see-through, your breaths coming in short, uneven pants.
âPersistent little thing, arenât you?â He says his voice low and filled with quiet longing.
You meet his gaze, pulse hammering as every nerve in your body ignites with anticipation. âI always get what I want Benny,â you whisper, stepping closer, your hands sliding over his firm biceps.
A smirk plays at his lips as he takes you in, his blue eyes dark with desire. âYouâve got me,â he says, his voice low and rough and before you know it, his hands are on your waist gripping you close as his mouth crashes against yours.
The force of him steals your breath, his body hard and unyielding as he walks you backward toward the bedroom.
Clothes come off piece by piece, your hands trailing down his toned chest until you lay back on his bed. He unbuttons his jeans, holding them at the waist as you slip your panties down.
You watch, breathless, as he digs through a drawer, retrieving a condom and when he finally pushes his jeans down, your eyes widen as they slide down his hips, your breath hitching at the size of his cock.
He grins at your expression. âBetter than you imagined?â
You swallow hard, heat rushing to your cheeks. âM-much more,â you stutter, barely able to form words.
His smirk deepens as he rolls the condom on slow and patient as his gaze locks on yours. âFlattery will get you everywhere with me, sweetheart.â
He climbs over you, his abs flexing with each movement, every curve of his body defined and powerful. The length of his cock brushes against your thigh, leaving a trail of warmth against your skin as he positions himself above you, his biceps flexing as he holds himself up.
But youâre not about to let him take control that easy.
You push against his chest, surprising him as you force him onto his back. He lets you, his grin widening as he settles against the mattress, his hands immediately finding your waist, holding you firm.
âYou gonna take me?â he grins his eyes dark with amusement and something more dangerous.
âMmhmmâ you say defiantly biting your lip as you climb onto him, straddling his hips.
Your hands trail down his chest, feeling the firm ridges of muscle beneath your fingertips as you slowly lower yourself down on him. His cock is thick, stretching you wide, forcing a deep moan from your lips as your body adjusts to the sheer size of him.
âCâmon, sweetheart, take me,â he taunts, his voice thick with heat. As you struggle his hands cup your breasts, thumbs grazing your nipples as he thrusts up into you, making you gasp the stretch so deep it makes your eyes squeeze shut.
He keeps goading, bucking his hips, filling you deep and you moan taking each hard thrust until you regain your senses, practically bunny bouncing on him.
âFuck thats it ,â he rasps, watching your body take him. âLook at you.â
You doâyou watch him, watch the way his jaw clenches, the way he pants, the way his hands grip your hips firm as you begin to ride him harder. He meets you thrust for thrust, his groans of satisfaction driving you faster.
âTaking me good,â he grunts, his eyes locked on yours, his praise making your body burn hotter as the room fills with the sounds of skin meeting skin, your breathless moans and Bennyâs deep, husky praises.
âThatâs it, baby,â he murmurs, his hands, squeezing your hips claiming you harder. âDoing real damn good.â
You shudder your head tipping back as you orgasm rocking your hips against him in sweet bliss.
Suddenly, the room spins as Benny flips you onto your back in one fluid motion, his strength sending a thrill through your dazed body. Your hands fly up, and he grips your wrists in one hand, pinning you as he kneels between your thighs, positioning himself once more.
âYou didn't take me all the wayâ he rasps. âNow I gotta finish what you startedâ he breathes, his cock pressing insistently at your entrance.
âPlease Benny,â you practically moan and your eyes roll back as he pushes into you all over again, stretching you to the brink, satisfying you so deep you can hardly breathe.
He grips your wrists firm, his muscles flexing hard as he slams against you, each thrust making the bed creak as you wail, your cries filling the air loud enough to wake the neighbors.
The pressure of his cock, the intensity of him, itâs almost too muchâbut you donât want him to stop.
You come in seconds, your hips pushing up as your orgasm rolls through you, the pleasure so high it steals every bit of breath from your lungs.
The second your body slacks, he pulls out, only to flip you onto your stomach, making you gasp as he drags the thick head of his cock through your slick heat before pushing back in with one deep claiming stroke.
The bed shakes as he takes you from the back, his hands pulling you into every hard unrelenting thrust as he fucks you incoherent against the mattress.
âBenny,â you moan, your face flushed, your cheek pressed to the sheets as the bed rocks beneath you. His hands grip your hips, holding you steady as he fucks you harder, faster, rendering you senseless, each snap of his hips, pushing you deeper into mind-numbing bliss.
âThis what you wanted?â he demands his voice loud and rough.
You whimper, desperate, breathless, your fingers clutching at the sheets. âYesâBennyây-es,â you cry, barely able to form words as he pounds into you over and over, his pace unrelenting pushing you past every limit.
His rough fingers find your clit and your eyes roll back as he goes harder, deeper, until all you can do is moan, your body shuddering as he finally groans, burying himself deep, his release pulsing from his cock as you come together.
For a moment, all that fills the room is ragged breathing.
Then Benny laughs breathlessly pulling out, your body aching from the loss, âDamn sweetheart,â he exhales laying onto his back. âHope you didnât have any plans after this.â He says pulling you to his chest.
You grin, looking up at his handsome face, your body weak and spent. âI think you just made âem for me, Benny,â you confess, and as he looks at you his blue eyes darken. He pulls you in for a long lingering kiss, pouring all his feelings into it, already hooked on youâBecause you like a challenge and you always get what you want.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
âI seriously canât believe you, Alastor!â you shouted, for what seemed like the hundredth time.Â
âI really donât see the problem here, dear,â he said, slightly more passive aggressive than normal.
You two had been fighting for the last 10 minutes or so, standing in the small kitchen of the Hazbin Hotel. While your fight had started with a simple argument over a slight misunderstanding, soon the gates broke and the flood beganâ every single thing that Alastor had done that ticked you off just rushed out in a wave that you couldn't seem to stop.
âArgh, youâre just⌠the⌠the worst!!â you screamed into his face, lacking better words.Â
Alastors eyes narrowed, shit-eating-grin strained slightly, ears flicking back for a brief moment. You barely caught the change in his eyes or smile, but your eyes darted up at the movement from his fluffy, red and black ears.
Youâd never admit it, but ever since youâd arrived at the hotel, youâd had a bit of an obsession over the Radio Demon. He was aggravating and full of himself and bitchy and narcissistic, but something about him always seemed to make your heart beat a little faster. Especially his more⌠deer-like features.
Antlers, ears, (speculated) tailâ you were fascinated by it all. All you wanted to do was run your hand up the back of his ears, tangling in his hair, while you lay, gasping, helpless beneath him, completely at his mercyâŚ
You blinked, realizing that youâd been staring for a few moments too long. Alastor noticed, of course. Smiling wider, he decided to have some fun with it.
âReally, darling? In what ways am IâŚâ he flicked his ears backwards, then forwards again, âthe worst?â
You blushed, eyes never breaking from his ears. âUh, well, I⌠for startersâŚâ you trailed off.
â...Yes, dear? Iâm listening.â His left ear flicked to the side.
âOh, well, you knowâŚâ you desperately tried to gain control of the conversation, looking into his eyes again. âYouâre incredibly full of yourself.â
âOh, really, (Y/N)? And youâre so humble?â He grinned impossibly wider, ears flicking in every which way.
âWell, ya know, IâŚâ Get a hold of yourself, (Y/N), you thought, eyes trying to focus on anything else but the demon in front of you. âIâm not an asshole about it.â Fuck, why did you say that?!
Alastor threw his head back and laughed, his ears finally stopping. You pouted, hating to be the butt of whatever sadistic joke you were to him. âReally? Is that what you think of me?â he asked, still laughing.
âI⌠I mean, IâŚâ What did you mean? Sure, Alastor could be shitty at times, but he seemed to have a soft spot for you⌠at least, thatâs what you thought. You didnât really know anymore.
He bent at the waist, face drawing closer to yours, and it seemed as if he read your mind. âWhat did you mean, sweetheart? Iâm listening.â His ears shifted back (purposefully, of courseâ he just loved to see you squirm). That was the final breaking point for you.
âOh, fuck you, Alastor!â you turned your head away, suddenly very aware that your back was now firmly pressed against the kitchen counter.
âYouâre welcome to try, dear.â
HE DID NOT JUSTâ
You blushed, and your eyes flashed to his instantly, because there was no way in hell that he just said that.
The smirk that played across his face told you that he had indeed just said that.
âIâŚIâŚI-I,â you stammered, not quite able to process it. His smirk grew, especially after his ears twitched to the front again and your eyes followed every movement and his eyes followed yours.
Changing the subject (thank Satan), his smile shifted to a kinder one, eyes looking up to where his ears stood, then back at you. "Would you like to touch them, darling?"
You were silent for a moment, taken aback. "What-- I'm sorry?"
You heard him, of course, and he knew that, so he continued. "As long as our little argument is over, that is." He reached down and took your hand, eyes never breaking away from yours. "As much as I love our friendly banter, it hurts me so much to see you so angry at me."
You didn't know what so say for once, so you just let him bring your hand to to the side of his temple, almost touching his hair.
"...I..." Honestly, you were surprised you got that much out.
Still smiling, his eyes stared into your soul. "Use your words, dear."
Well, there was no going back now. You threw all your embarrassment out the window and nodded vigorously. "Yes, yes, Alastor, I do."
Alastor smiled (you could swear there was kindness behind it), bowed his head, and pressed your hand to the base of his ear.
You almost gasped. The hair (hair? fur? hair-fur?) was soft, softer than you'd imagined. Your fingers gently danced up and down his ear, and then moved over to caress his antlers.
Meanwhile, hidden from you, Alastor's face was a mess of emotions. Every bone in his body screamed at his to leave, to vanish, to get away from the danger that physical contact might bring. His eyes flashed into radio dials, then back again. However, within only a few seconds, he relaxed into your touch, letting out a soft exhale.
You were enthralled with his ears and antlers, so much so that you brought your other hand up to the back of his head, unintentionally pulling him closer to you. Alastor stepped forward slightly, swallowed his pride, and trailed his hands up the sides of your thighs to your waist, while your fingers kept toying with his hair.
Alastor, head still lowered, shifted enough to where he could look up at you. Finally, finally you were able to stop looking at the top of his head (satiated for now), and stared deep into his crimson eyes. (Were his pupils more dilated than normal?)
Slowly, he stood up straight, eyes still fixated on you. Your hands fell from his ears to his hair, and then to his chest. You seemed even more aware of the counter behind you, especially as Alastor took another small step toward you, almost pressing into you, hands tightening on your waist.
"Thank you," you whispered, almost inaudibly, head reaching up slightly.
"Any time, mon cher," he whispered back, as his head lowered.
At that moment, Charlie burst into the kitchen. Immediately, you spun around to face the sink, while Alastor shadow-traveled a few yards away to the fridge. "Alright, you two! I hope you're ready for some group exercises!" she bubbled.
You cleared your throat, blushing (grateful that she didn't see the almost-kiss). "Of course, we'll be out in a minute!" you assured the princess.
"No, no, right now! Let's goooo!" she dragged you out of the kitchen.
Before you passed the now open doorway, you caught Alastor's eye.
He smiled at you.
You grinned.
"Any time, dear," he whispered once more as you disappeared. "Any time."
Queen Revel i am ON MY KNEES begging for the next part of point of extinction because HOLY SHIT DUDE HE JUST WHIPS IT OUT????
Heâs just trying to help in his awkward, unsettling way. 18+
Point of Extinction Pt 13
Shockwave x Reader
⢠Youâre averting your eyes still, face reddening. âYou find my lack of experience undesirable?â Heâs always been quick to pick up new skills. This will be no different. And he canât deny some purely unscientific curiosity about it. âI would be amenable to allowing you to take the lead while I gather experience.â How would those soft hands feel on him? Tracing ridges and dipping into seams. Wants to know. This is supposed to be about you, tending to your needs, not his. Wanting this isnât logical, but that doesnât change that he does.
⢠And he just keeps making this worse somehow. Risking a look and finding him just staring at you, his one hand gripping that weapon of mass destruction between his thighs and idly touching himself. The shapeâs familiar enough, if the ridges and nodes are a bit Giger-esque and pulsing with ruddy biolights that draw your eyes against your will. Forcing yourself to look anywhere but at that, heâs still doing his creepy stare, antenna back. And stroking himself. âThatâs a really⌠flattering offer,â you manage. Stop looking at it. Stop. Dammit. âCould you not do that?â Itâs too distracting.
⢠Letting go of his spike he approaches you and your eyes dip to his bobbing spike then pointedly back up to his single optic. âMight I suggest mutual exploration to ease Thirteenâs uncertainty?â Gently catching your hand and you allow him to guide it to his spike. And your face somehow goes even redder. Shuddering at the feel of your soft palm on him. Lifting his hand and pleased when you donât immediately snatch yours back when he cups your cheek, servos sliding against you. Thumb sliding over your bottom lip. Another mech would kiss you, but he canât. âYou can have control of this encounter.â
⢠Know you should get some space between you. Definitely not stroke your fingers along the ridges of his spike, thumb sliding over the head, feeling a bead of slick there. Startling when his helm gently bumps your forehead, that optic bathing your face in red light. Itâs not exactly romantic, but youâre pretty sure youâd be worried if he was trying to be romantic. Heâs awkward and creepy and more than a little bit messed up. âHow much control?â You ask despite yourself.
⢠Optic brightening, his hips rock when you slide your thumb over the tip of his spike again. Itâs difficult to ease himself down without just falling, but he manages and growls when your fingers slip free of him. âFamiliarize yourself as necessary. Iâm open to instruction.â Holding out a hand to you and waiting while you stare down at him and for a moment that dissonance swamps him. A memory of someone else standing over him, staring down at him with cold calculation. Smiling. A strangerâs memory.
⢠Youâre not doing this. Right? Heâs just staring at you, helm tipped up and his hand outstretched. Trying your damnedest to not look at his spike. Mutual pleasure. âYouâre not going to lay eggs in me or anything right?â And those antenna go back in offense. Youâll take that as a no. Maybe youâre a tiny bit tempted and heâd mentioned being inexperienced. Popping his alien cherry shouldnât be appealing. âAnd youâre not going to move unless I say you can?â
⢠âIf thatâs what you require.â Head tipping he waits. And youâre so small even with him mass displaced. Maybe thatâs the issue? His size? And he freezes as it sinks in how illogical this all is. That he shouldnât actually want this. Shouldnât care about your well being. That heâs made a series of illogical decisions since heâd first interacted with you. And those phantom memories are worse since he began interacting with you, lifting through him suddenly to leave him disoriented. The logical thing to do would be to rid himself of you, but he knows that he wonât. He canât.
⢠Somethingâs very wrong with you for even considering this. Is this just a new experiment to him? A test to see what youâll do? Or does he actually think heâs taking care of your needs? And youâre not actually considering it, are you? Can admit youâre a tiny bit curious, but itâs the sort of horrified curiosity youâd have for a bit of particularly awful gossip. âWhy do you want to take care of me?â Resisting the urge to make air quotes as you focus on his optic since itâs safer than the intimidating jut of his spike. Unable to ask why youâd been spared ending up like the deer. And those antenna go back again.
⢠Staring up at you, he canât answer, because he isnât sure. Doesnât know why heâd culled you from his experiments. Why the idea of harming you makes him so uncomfortable. Is it only loneliness? That youâre someone to talk to even if the conversations are stilted? Fixating on you now even when heâs working in his lab. Experiments that never bothered him before now making him hesitate simply because you wouldnât like them. Because theyâd upset you. âIâm responsible for your well-being and health,â he says, watching your expression twist. Unhappy with that answer. âAnd because I desire to be the one to tend to you.â He shouldnât, but he does. Maybe your illogical, emotional humanity is rubbing off on him. Infecting him.
⢠Thereâs something perverse about even considering this. This whole time youâve been powerless to his whims and heâs giving you permission to take control. To give him orders that he claims heâll listen to. Yeah, thereâs something very wrong with you. âCan I touch you wherever?â Heâs closer to your size this way and you doubt youâre going to get another opportunity like this. Want to take advantage before your common sense and survival instincts kick back in. Not waiting for his answer as you reach to cup his head in your hands, biting your bottom lip as you toy with his bunny ears as you think of them. Watching those antenna flick at your touch. And he allows it, keeping still as you gently run your fingertips over the plating of his helm, smiling when bits lift or shift at your touch like theyâre sensitive.
Paradigm Shift 6
Warnings:Â this fic will include elements, some dark, such noncon/dubcon, and other untagged triggers. Please take this into account before proceeding. It is up to curate your online consumption safely.
Summary: you get transferred to a new position but itâs hardly a breath of fresh air. (plus!reader)
Characters: Loki, Bucky Barnes, this reader is known as Billie.
Authorâs Note:Â Please feel free to leave some feedback, reblog, and jump into my asks. Iâm always happy to discuss with you and riff on idea. As always, you are cherished and adored! Stay safe, be kind, and treat yourselfđ
đźPart of the Bad Bosses AUđź
You sit against the wall as the important people line the edges of the desk. Swiveling, toying with ballpoint pens, tapping on flat tablet screens. You're the only assistant there and it's made more obvious as you're the only one not invited to sit with the VIPs.
The executives go down their agendas. Boasting mostly about their numbers, others using flowery language to hide their less than stellar results, and some posturing rather than sharing anything of value.
Odinson looks less than interested. His eyes stray now and again to the walls. The glass is covered by the drawn blinds which he seems to forget as his mind arounds. He must have found a new distraction. You got out just in time.
He cracks his neck, "very well. Submit your numbers as usual. I'll be in touch with those I need to be."
He stands and struts to the door as the rest of the table look at each other. They're put off by the suddenness of his dimissal. Ellie was still presenting her budget.
"Billie, a word."
It's your turn to be surprised. As the other suits pack up or lounge and swipe at their phone, only two gazes react to the command. Barnes and Laufeyson turn to watch you stand. This is treacherous.
Barnes tilts his head and Laufeyson squints. Like a wolf and a snake, measuring their prey. Well, you will not be devoured so easily.
You cross the office and follow Odinson out. He doesn't look ahead, rather cranes to focus on something, or someone you can't pick out. He stops short and you hit his back.
"Ah, uh, oh," he spins to face you and plants his hand on the wall, his other pushing back his stands of blond hair. "Am I in your way, darling?"
"Hm? No, you told me--"
"Ah, yes, yes," he chuckles raucously, "be assured, I had good reason," he leans in and looms over you, "my brother, tell me your thoughts."
"Erm, well, it's not been very long," you reply.
"You are a clever girl, Bill, tell me."
"He is good with numbers and I think he's well-placed. He and Barnes could be productive but I think Logistics needs--"
He raises his head and searches the bull pen. He huffs and stands straight, turning on his heel.
"You will keep notes for me on this matter," he demands. "Be off, before he is about one of his moods."
He strides away without your reply. You wouldn't have anything nice to say anyway. That was abrupt and odd. As for his last remark, you're not sure which of your bosses he refers too.
You march back toward the conference room with your laptop under your crossed arms. As you approach, Laufeyson steps into your path, no doubt having observed your conversation. Before you can tell him to move, he winces and steps away from the door as Barnes rescinds his thick finger from his jab in his cohort's ribs.
"For someone so skinny, you make a hell of a wall," Barnes snips.
"I am lean, not--" Laufeyson sighs and shakes his head, turning back to you. "What did my brother want?"
"Yes, what did the big bad want?" Barnes stands shoulder to shoulder with Laufeyson, well almost, he is a bit shorter.
"He asked if I needed anything. Like a desk mat or tranquilizer." You retort.
Barnes snickers and Laufeyson glowers deeper.
"Very witty indeed."
"I'd love to do my full set for you two but I believe you have other meetings in your calendar," you advise.
"You sound like my drill sergeant," Barnes scoffs.
You arch a brow and stare back. You wait. You will. You're not there to do their work for them.
"Have you a mind for coffee, James?" Laufeyson asks.
Barnes growls, "I'll drown you in it if you call me that again but yes, I could use a boost."
They keep their eyes on you. There power plays are boring. Do they really get off on grounding down an assistant sentenced to purgatory? Actually, that make you feel a bit better. That's how little they have going on.
"I'll go--"
"We'll come," Barnes insists. "Could stretch my legs? How about you, Loki? Built like a spider, sitting in those chairs--"
"You shouldn't be so concerned with my physique and perhaps start cutting those mid afternoon muffins, eh?" Laufeyson retorts.
Even when they get along, they dont.
"It would be quicker if I went myself," you say. "You have Rogers--"
"He's a friend. He'll understand," Barnes interjects. "Garcons?"
Laufeyson nods, "perfect."
You blink but don't let your agitation through. You simply nod.
"Alright, I'll need to put my computer away--"
"Eh, you," Laufeyson catches a passing intern by the back of his collar. "Take this to logistics."
He takes your laptop before you can react and hands it to the spindly yellow-haired undergrad. You give an apologetic look as he utters out a 'yes, sir' and hurries away.
"You didn't need to do that," you argue.
"I hope my brother didn't give you the impression that I take orders from you, darling. It is rather the other way around." Laufeyson sniffs.
"He only takes orders in the bedroom," Barnes chuckles.
"That's hardly appropriate," Laufeyson huffs.
"Loosen up. Skip the coffee and take a shot," Barnes raps his knuckles on Laufeyson's sleeve.
They turn and grumble at each other. You don't move until they reach the elevator. You're not stupid. They have to show their dominance. Too bad you don't care who's in charge, you just want to get the job done.
ââââŕ¨ŕ§ââââ
Charles Leclerc sat in his hotel suite, fingers drumming impatiently against the glass of whiskey in his hand. He wasnât even drinking itâjust swirling the amber liquid in the dim light of his room, as if the motion itself could steady his thoughts.
Alex was late. Of course, she was. She had a way of dragging things out, prolonging the inevitable, believing that if she held on long enough, reality would bend to her will.
He heard the sharp knock at his door and exhaled slowly before getting up to open it. Alex stood there, all too put togetherâher blonde hair in effortless waves, her lips curved in a knowing smirk, like she already thought sheâd won whatever game she was playing.
âChĂŠri,â she purred, stepping past him without waiting for an invitation. âMiss me?â
Charles shut the door and ran a hand through his hair. âSit down, Alex.â
She turned, arching a perfectly sculpted brow. âOh? Weâre being serious now?â She strolled over to the couch, sitting with the grace of someone who still thought they held all the cards.
Charles didnât sit. He remained standing, arms crossed, his jaw tight. âI told you this was over.â
Alex let out a soft laugh, tilting her head as she crossed her legs. âAnd yet, you called me here. Mixed signals, donât you think?â
âI called you here,â Charles said, voice measured, âbecause you donât seem to get it. We are done, Alex. Finished.â
Her smile didnât waver, but something flickered in her eyes. âAre we?â she said smoothly. âBecause I keep hearing your name next to mine. The media still calls me your girlfriend. You havenât exactly rushed to correct them.â
Charles clenched his fists. âI shouldnât have to. We broke up. You just refuse to accept it.â
She leaned forward, resting her chin in her palm. âOr maybe youâre just confused. Maybe thisâwhatever this little tantrum isâwill pass, and youâll realize that I am the only woman who truly understands you.â
Charles let out a humorless laugh, shaking his head. âTantrum? You think Iâm throwing a tantrum? Alex, I am exhausted.â
Her smirk faltered slightly, but she masked it quickly. âExhausted of what?â
âOf you!â His voice rose, exasperation lacing every word. âOf the mind games. Of the manipulation. Of the constant need to control everything, including me.â He pointed at her. âYou think if you show up enough times, if you insert yourself into my life over and over, Iâll justâwhat? Change my mind?â
Alexâs eyes darkened. âI wouldnât have to insert myself into your life if certain people werenât trying to replace me.â
Charles exhaled sharply, pinching the bridge of his nose. âAnd here we go.â
She stood, arms folding as she stepped closer to him. âDonât act like you donât know what Iâm talking about, Charles. That little actress youâve been parading aroundâAhaana.â
Charlesâs eyes snapped to hers, his posture stiffening. âAhaana has nothing to do with this.â
Alex scoffed. âPlease. You think I donât see the way you looked at her that day?â She stepped closer, voice dripping with venom. âShe is nothing. Sheâs a novelty. A shiny new toy for you to play with. And once the excitement fades, youâll realize what Iâve always knownâyou and I are inevitable.â
Charlesâs jaw clenched so tightly it hurt. âYou are delusional, Alex. And actually fucking crazy if you think that Ahaana has anything to do with this.â
Her lips curled. âAm I?â
âYes,â he snapped, stepping forward, closing the space between them. âI have neverâneverâbeen more certain about anything in my life. We are over. I am breaking up with you. I donât love you. I donât even like you.â
She inhaled sharply, but before she could speak, Charles continued.
âYou want to know why? Because I see you now. For who you really are. Youâre not the woman I fell forâyouâre a version of her, twisted and bitter, clinging onto something that doesnât exist anymore.â He exhaled harshly. âYouâre right about one thing. I do look at Ahaana differently. Because she isnât like you.â
Alexâs face twisted, her hands curling into fists. âShe will never be me.â
âThank God for that.â
The silence between them was thick, charged with something dangerously close to hatred. Charles had never wanted to hate Alexâhad never even imagined he couldâbut looking at her now, seeing the pure, unfiltered malice in her eyes, he realized he might be close.
She straightened, lifting her chin. âYouâll regret this.â
âNo,â he said quietly. âI wonât.â
She stared at him, something almost desperate flickering across her features, before she masked it with indifference. âFine,â she said. âHave it your way.â
Charles said nothing. He just watched as she turned, her heels clicking against the floor as she stormed toward the door. But before she left, she paused, glancing back over her shoulder.
âThis isnât over,â she said, voice eerily calm.
And then, she was gone.
Charles stood there for a long moment, his heart pounding, his fists clenched so tightly his nails dug into his palms.
But then he exhaled, shaking his head, as if shedding the last remnants of whatever hold Alex had on him.
For the first time in a long time, he felt free.
Meanwhile not too far away,the hotel room was bathed in soft hues of twilight, the warm amber glow of the setting sun spilling through the sheer curtains. Ahaana sat curled up in a chair by the window, her phone resting idly on the armrest. Her fingers absentmindedly traced the rim of a coffee mug, long gone cold. The day had been uneventful, yet her mind was anything but still. The ghosts of the past lingered in the shadows, whispering doubts, tugging at old wounds she had worked so hard to forget.
India.
Film city.
Even the thought of it sent a strange chill through her veins. It wasnât fearânot exactly. It was the weight of something unfinished, something unresolved, lurking in the corners of her memory. The industry that had once been her playground had also turned its back on her when she had needed it the most. And yet, here she was, being offered a way back in.
What the fuck is happening? She sighed to herself, rubbing her temple.
The phone buzzed suddenly, pulling her out of her thoughts. She glanced at the screen, expecting yet another half-hearted PR email or a message from her manager. But instead, a name lit up the display, and for the first time that day, she felt something shift inside her.
Varun Dhawan.
She hesitated for only a second before answering. âHello?â
âFinally! Madam has answered my call.â His voice was light, teasing, filled with the familiar warmth that had always made her feel like home.
Ahaana huffed out a small laugh. âHi, Varun.â
âHi, she says. Thatâs all I get? After ignoring me for days?â
âI havenât been ignoring you.â
âReally? Because Karan and I were starting to think you had developed some severe phone phobia. Should we be concerned?â
She rolled her eyes but couldnât suppress the small smile tugging at her lips. âYouâre being dramatic.â
âDramatic? Me? Never.â His tone dropped slightly, losing some of its playful edge. âAhaana, you know why Iâm calling.â
Her smile faltered. Of course, she did.
âYou and Karan are relentless,â she muttered, leaning back against the chair.
âBecause we believe in you,â he countered immediately. âAnd because we know you still love this. Donât pretend you donât.â
She exhaled slowly, staring out at the dimming sky. âItâs not that simple, Varun.â
âYes, it is.â His voice softened. âYou were born for this, Ahaana. And you know it. Whatever happened beforeââ
She stiffened slightly. âLetâs not talk about that.â
There was a pause, as if he was choosing his next words carefully. Then, he sighed. âFine. But donât let the past dictate your future. Youâre not that person anymore.â
She wanted to believe that. She really did.
âYou donât have to do this alone, you know. And weâre still your people, Ahaana.â
She closed her eyes for a moment. She had spent so long pushing everything away, convincing herself that she didnât need anyone, that she had forgotten what it felt like to have people who cared. People who wanted her back.
Then, before she could respond, another voice chimed in from the background. âHas she said yes yet?â
Karan Johar.
Ahaana let out a small laugh despite herself. âKaran, are you eavesdropping?â
âI donât eavesdrop. I supervise.â
Varun snorted. âHeâs been pacing for the past ten minutes, by the way. I think he might actually combust if you say no.â
Karanâs voice came through again, a touch more serious this time. âDarling, youâre a star. Stop dimming your own light.â
Ahaana stared at the city skyline, a myriad of thoughts swirling inside her. But for the first time in a long time, the hesitation didnât feel quite as heavy. Maybe Varun was right. Maybe Karan was right. Maybe it was time to stop running.
She inhaled deeply, a quiet moment of clarity settling over her. Then, she spoke.
âOkay.â
A beat of silence. Then Varun whooped so loudly she had to pull the phone away from her ear. âYES! Ladies and gentlemen, sheâs back!â
Karanâs relieved sigh came through the speaker. âFinally. I was this close to staging a full intervention.â
Ahaana laughed, shaking her head. âYou two are impossible.â
âAnd you love us for it,â Varun quipped.
She did. More than she cared to admit.
And maybe, just maybe, it was time to come home.
The gang had game nights far too often then they'd like to admit, Max and Kelly were ofcourse there, Ahaana was there, Carlos and Rebecca joined, Lando somehow always inserted himself in even though everytime he cheated and got himself uninvited. Even Alex Albon and Lily joined them from time to time, but couldn't make it this time and Charles was with them for the first time ever.
The night was young, but the energy in the room felt like the start of a Grand Prix itselfâfast, loud, and filled with the potential for absolute disaster. The gang had gathered in Maxâs hotel suite for a game night, and true to form, it had already descended into chaos.
âIâm telling you, Lando cheats,â Ahaana declared, pointing an accusatory finger at him as he smirked from his spot on the couch. âThere is no way you won that round fairly.â
Lando, lounging back with all the ease of someone who had just scammed his way into victory, dramatically placed a hand on his chest. âHow dare you? I am an honest man.â
âHonest, my foot,â Kelly interjected, shaking her head. âEven Charles saw it, didnât you?â
Charles, who had been uncharacteristically quiet for the past few minutes, blinked. âHuh?â
âSee? He wasnât even paying attention,â Lando scoffed. âProbably too busy thinking about how free he is now that heâs finally dumped his psychotic ex.â
That got everyoneâs attention.
Rebecca, who had been stacking poker chips, froze mid-motion. Max, who had been snickering at Landoâs misfortune, raised a brow. Ahaana, who had been preoccupied trying to figure out how Lando had managed to win five rounds in a row, looked up.
âYou finally did it?â Carlos leaned forward, grinning. âYou actually told Alex to get lost?â
Charles exhaled heavily, running a hand through his hair. âIt was not exactly smooth.â
âOf course, it wasnât,â Max said. âSheâs like an overly attached leech.â
Kelly winced. âOof. Harsh, but fair.â
âI donât even want to know the details,â Lando said, tossing a handful of popcorn into his mouth. âActually, no. I do. Tell us. In detail.â
Charles groaned. âWhy are you all like this?â
âBecause this is the most entertainment weâve had all season,â Rebecca quipped. âNow spill.â
Charles rolled his eyes, but he recounted the story of his final conversation with Alex. The room responded accordinglyâwith gasps, laughter, and a few muttered curses aimed at Alexâs name. When he finished, Ahaana just shook her head, unimpressed.
âSheâs delusional,â she said simply. âAbsolutely delusional.â
âI wouldâve paid money to see her reaction when you told her it was over,â Max admitted, grinning.
Charles smirked. âIt was⌠satisfying.â
âOkay, enough about the she-devil,â Lando said, stretching. âLetâs get back to the game before Ahaana starts accusing me of cheating again.â
âYou do cheat,â she said without hesitation.
âI do notââ
âLando, you have a history of cheating at literally every game weâve ever played,â Max said, unimpressed.
âI prefer to think of it as strategic improvisation.â
âStrategic bullshit,â Rebecca muttered.
The next hour was filled with absolute mayhem. There was yelling. There was a near-brawl between Carlos and Lando over an Uno reverse card. At some point, Kelly got so frustrated she threw a playing card at Maxâs head, which only made him laugh harder. Charles, for the most part, found himself entertained just watching it all unfold.
Ahaana, in particular, seemed to come alive in the chaos. Her laughter was light, effortless, and every time she rolled her eyes at Lando or tossed a witty remark at Max, Charles found himself watching her just a little too long.
âAlright, alright,â Ahaana said, throwing her hands up in surrender after another brutal loss. âI need a break before I throw Lando out the window.â
âJokes on you,â Lando said. âIâd land gracefully.â To which Max snorted.
Ahaana got up and stretched, and thatâs when she casually dropped, âOh, by the way, I officially start shooting for Jigra in 17 days.â
The room went silent.
âWhat?â Max was the first to react, blinking.
âYouâre actually going back?â Lando added.
Rebecca gasped. âFinally! Youâre returning to the big screen!â
Ahaana smiled, a little softer this time. âYeah. Itâs time.â
There was a beat of silence before Max, ever the older brother figure, crossed his arms. âAre you sure?â
She looked at him, understanding the weight behind his question. âI am.â
Max studied her for a long moment, then exhaled. âAlright. If anyone gives you troubleââ
âI know, I know.â She grinned. âIâll call my attack dog Verstappen.â
He smirked. âDamn right.â
After a long round of jenga and then stuffing their faces in food, the last slice of pizza appeared on the table, and the room instantly went silent, all eyes locked on it.
Ahaana leaned forward, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. âWell, look whoâs in the spotlight now.â
Carlos didnât miss a beat. âIâve been eyeing that slice for the last ten minutes.â
âOh, please,â Ahaana shot back. âYou just noticed it now because itâs the last one.â
Lando raised an eyebrow. âYouâre really gonna fight over pizza? This is an all-time low, even for you.â
âShut up, Lando,â Carlos grumbled. âItâs mine.â
Max chuckled from the side. âThis is gonna be good.â
Ahaana picked up the slice like it was some sort of prized possession. âIâm just saying, Iâve had a long day. So I think Iâm entitled to this.â
Carlos shot up from his seat, but Ahaana held the slice just out of reach, her smirk widening. âNice try.â
Max shook his head, watching the two of them. âThis is the dumbest thing Iâve seen all week.â
Ahaana, sensing victory, took a deliberate bite of the pizza. âToo slow, boys.â
Lando leaned back, popping a piece of popcorn into his mouth. âWell, that was anticlimactic.â
Later that night, after the raucous energy had settled slightly, Charles found himself watching Ahaana from across the room. She was laughing at something Lando had said, her head thrown back, eyes crinkled in amusement. The dim lighting softened her features, casting warm shadows over her skin, making her look almost ethereal.
He didnât know when it started, this quiet admiration of her. Maybe it was when she first walked into his life with that effortless confidence, like she belonged in every room she entered. Maybe it was when he realized she wasnât just sharp-tongued but also deeply, frustratingly kind. Or maybe it was moments like this, when she wasnât doing anything extraordinaryâjust laughing, existingâand yet, she managed to pull his entire attention like a force of gravity.
There was something in the way she carried herselfâunapologetic, bold, yet with an underlying grace that was hard to ignore. She was an enigma, a storm and a lull all at once. And he was starting to realize he liked that about her. A little too much.
âAre you staring at Ahaana?â
Charles nearly choked on his drink. He turned sharply to see Max smirking at him, amusement flickering in his eyes.
âNo,â he denied, a little too quickly.
Max hummed, unconvinced. âSure. And Iâm a level headed person when angered.â
Charles groaned. âCan you not?â
Max chuckled, clapping him on the shoulder. âOh no, mate. I definitely can.â
Across the room, Ahaana caught his gaze, a small, soft smile playing on her lips. Charles smiled back but quickly looked away because he was scared his blush would be way too evident, but the warmth on his face lingered and Ahaana caught it anyway, chuckling a bit at the very handsome man, which Charles heard.
Yeah. He was in trouble.
Azula remembers something her uncle said once: all old people know each other.
She supposes mother should count as old.
The crew has new orders. Find Jeong Jeong the deserter. Do not turn him in, do not capture. Request an audience.
Jee can see the gears turning in Azula's head. He never planned to go against the firelord but, losing a son in the war, nearly losing his own life. And the princess has been so... He hesitates to call her warm, or kind. She is practical. Maybe she does not care for them on an emotional level. But she does so in the practical. She reminds him of his own son, always focused, determined.
......
Zuko dashes through the starlit caldera rooftops. His mission is clear. A low ranking colonel has been spotted talking to known traitors. There is little physical evidence. There is no need for it anyway. Zuko grips the standard issue army dagger and slits his throat.
The man is no more.
Ozai is pleased as he receives the report of mutiny, apparently a lowly soldier took it upon himself to end the colonel's life.
Zuko is shedding the last of his stealth armor when his father walks into his room.
Ozai: A job well done.
Zuko: thank you father. The mission was important.
Ozai: indeed. I have another assignment for you. One of utmost secrecy.
Zuko kneels and Ozai smiles.
Ozai: within the earth kingdom there is a general. His name is Fong. The fire nation needs him dead before we can capture Omashu. This is a long mission. Fret not. Even if you have to cut your hair. Your honor will not be sullied. Dismissed.
Zuko bows and stands, continuing the process of getting ready for bed.
Ozai quietly slips out of the room realizing he dismissed Zuko out of his own room. The kid did not blink an eye or question it.
....
Azula arrives at a small town, talking to a man named Chey.
Azula: I am here to see Jeong Jeong. I come in peace. No weapons, no traps. I only wish for an audience.
Chey: You look young. Are you what. Fourteen?
Azula: you look whatever age you are. Look. I am... Politeness is not my strong suit. bind my hands if you must. The...
She pauses for a moment. Old people. Uncle Tea freak. Something he said once to a merchant.
Azula: the white lotus opens wide--
Chey: follow me.
......
Zuko arrives at a fortress, short hair, a set of burn scars drawn on his arms and face. His eyes are somewhat covered by a hood.
The night is eerie, cold, dry.
Through shadows and corners he sneaks in, patrolling earthbenders startled but dismissive of what sounded like an otter-squirrel burrowing.
The two sentries die from poison tipped senbon, which are immediately extracted.
Their uniforms stolen.
A third earthbender is held under threat of fire dagger to the throat. He buries the other two and makes a hole for himself.
Zuko covers him with a tarp.
In uniform his rampage is not needed. As he mimics their salutes and mannerisms he makes his way into the main barracks.
A fire starts inside Fong's room. One that is aided by some clever use of bending to create thicker smoke. Zuko is by no means a prodigy. But he knows how to make soot and dirty fire.
The general passes in his sleep. The fortress is on fire.
Zuko slips out only after making sure the body he stashed burns with the building.
He will book passage to Yu dao the next day. Once he arrives he is to get himself arrested. From there his second in command will handle exfiltration.
.....
The old firebender stares at who he recognizes as princess Azula.
Jeong Jeong: you know of the white lotus
Azula: my uncle is obsessed with pai sho. It was a calculated risk. I'll level with you. My father cannot rule anymore. The war. Well. You see how old I am and where I am. My crew will follow me.
Jeong Jeong: are you... Deserting.
Azula: and seeking your help to find my mother.
JJ: why
Azula: because Zuko is going to end up a monster if I dont. Do you rememeber Zhao? Your student. He has risen to commander. Last time I checked he is planning something. All I heard was si wong desert and find a library.
JJ: But why are you deserting.
Azula lifts up her tunic revealing the burn scar on her midsection.
JJ: Ozai.
Azula: after I fought him. Long story. Are you in or out? Or do I have to find uncle and bribe him with enough Jasmine tea for an entire ship.
Jeong jeong laughs out loud.
JJ: you have guts.
Azula: i have no other choice.
JJ: i'll help. On both accounts.
....
@chaosmagetwin @wingchunwaterbender
in an au where zuko and azula swap narrative places i think the series is three episodes long because azula just Fucking Kills Ozai and damn the consequences
yea my boyfriend's pretty cool - nishimura riki (pt.1)
next part
IN WHERE; you try to make your ex, riki, jealous. it doesn't work out the best for you.
genre: a tinyyy bit angsty, fluff
warning: a little bit of cursing, suggestiveness, underage drinking.
not proofread! đđžââď¸
it started off great. it was finally your birthday, and to celebrate, you invited all your friends and mutuals.
it's the first time you hosted something so big, especially for your own birthday. honestly, you just couldn't wait for everyone to leave already.
you didn't plan for there to be alchohol at the party, it just.. happened. so now you're technically responsible for a bunch of drunk teenagers.
(more under cut)
knowing you get drunk easily, you decided to not drink tonight. you can have fun while being sober.
"ugh, this is a mess," you grumble to ni-ki, "you're gonna help me clean this up right?" you tease, turning back to look at him. you blink in confusion.
he was just walking right behind you, and now he's gone? how long were you talking to yourself for?
you see him in the distance talking to a girl. you quickly approach him and wrap your arm around his, your grip tight.
it was almost midnight, and you guys were outside at your pool. your parents were pretty wealthy, so they could afford this big yard.
it's windy af so you have to squint to look up at ni-ki. he awkwardly nudges you away gently, going back to talking with that girl. they were acting like you werent even there.
you frown and reach for his arm again. he lets out an exasperated sigh. "not right now," he urges, briefly looking down at you and then contuing his convo.
you slowly look at the girl he was talking to, scanning her features. naoi rei.
she was older than you, and more athletic, and maybe even funnier. but your ego is never letting you believe that.
you have nothing against her, but why was she ignoring your prescense? maybe she's drunk. she notices your glare and smiles at you.
she isnt trying to be condescending, but thats the way you take it. your expression doesn't falter. infact, that just makes you angrier.
"i think i should leave you two alone," she says awkwardly, still smiling. "i'll see you inside! i think." she scurries away, going inside the house.
you turn to face ni-ki. knowing what's coming, he runs a hand along his hair and groans.
"what's your problem?" he asks, almost scowling at you.
"what's yours?" you retort. "i'm your girlfriend, but it seems like you have bigger priorities."
"i'm not allowed to discuss schoolwork with a classmate?" he crosses his arms.
"you can discuss schoolwork... at school."
"you mean mug every female that looks in my direction," he says passive-agressively.
"no i don't," you lie, not bring able to look at him.
"listen," he starts, taking a deep breath. "i don't wanna argue with you." he starts to walk away from you. you grab his arm and stand in front of him, blocking his away. which is stupid because he can easily just walk around you if he really wanted to leave.
"i don't either. just admit you were in the wrong," you mutter.
"why am i always in the wrong?" he asks, starting to get a little annoyed, now.
"i dunno, ask yourself that. maybe you should reflect--"
"this isn't gonna work," he suddenly interrupts. your eyes widen, backing away from him.
"what?"
"this isn't gonna work," he repeats. without further explaining himself, he walks away from you, heading towards the house.
for a few minutes, you keep trying to pinch yourself to see if this is just a dream. you look back at the house, faint music playing.
aint no way he's trying to go into my house after dumping me, you think to yourself. you take a deep breath to calm yourself down, but its no use.
you storm into the house, turning the lights on and shutting off the speaker. everyone turns to look at you.
"everybody needs to get the FUCK out," you yell, and everyone kind of stands there for a minute.
"hello? y'all deaf?" you shout again. everyone quickly scrambles to gather their stuff and cram out the door. in the crowd, you notice ni-ki's lingering gaze on you. obviously, you ignore it.
finally, it seems like everyone's out the house. your home is now a mess, and you only have 3 days to clean the whole place by yourself before your mom gets back.
tears threatning to fall at your eyes, you plop onto the couch and curl up into a ball, tightly hugging a pillow.
"bad bitches don't cry," you try to encourage yourself, but it makes you wanna cry even more from how corny that was. you squeeze your eyes shut.
you can hear soft footsteps approaching you. "whats wrong with you?" a concerned voice asks.
you slowly open your eyes and look up at the person. it was your best friend, sunoo. behind him was winter, biting her lip nervously.
you abruptly burst into tears, and winter and sunoo rush over to hug you. no words needed to be said. your soft sniffles and occasional whimpers is all that could be heard.
last night was ROUGH. you didn't even wipe off yout makeup, so you woke up with mascara stains all over your cheeks. you have a pounding headache after crying so much the previous night.
your mood lightens a bit when you see winter and sunoo laying on either side of you. it seems like they slept with you to comfort you throughout the night. you don't remember much, just a bunch of sobbing.
"you finally up?" winter asks softly. you nod, sitting up. she sits up too.
"are you gonna tell us what happened?" she inquires, putting a hand on your shoulder.
"mhm, just waiting for sunoo to wake up," you mumble. "but long story short, riki broke up with me."
"what!?" winter shrieks, making sunoo jolt up. he rubs his eyes.
"what happened?" he asks groggily, slowly sitting up as well.
"y/n and riki broke up," winter says with a slight pout.
"seriously?" sunoo gasps. you can notice them both reaching in for another hug. you place your hands in front of them.
"crying all day isn't gonna accomplish anything," you admit. you were moreso trying to convince yourself rather than your friends. winter hums in agreement.
"we should get started on cleaning up," sunoo proposes, getting up and stretching.
"you guys don't have to," you say gratefully.
"you're tell me you were planning on doing this by yourself?" winter raises an eyebrow. you gently elbow her.
"i'm tryna be nice here," you whine, and she giggles. it's so fun to tease you.
soon enough, you all get washed up and start cleaning. while cleaning, you explain more in depth about what happened last night.
"has he texted you after last night?" sunoo asks as he cleans the windows.
"i don't know, i haven't checked my phone in a while," you say while wiping the countertops. you stop what you're doing and pull your phone out from your pocket, taking off 'do not disturb.'
yup, 12 missed calls from ni-ki. and a bunch of text messages. you even got one from rei. you bite your lip and without hesitation, you block him.
"rei texted me," you say, clearly avoiding the point.
"and as for riki..?" winter asks, pausing her vacuuming to approach you and look over your shoulder to see your phone. sunoo shortly joins in, too.
"i blocked him, so i'm not really sure," you shrug and stuff your phone back in your pocket.
"damn, you blocked him quick," sunoo says, and he can't help but laugh. you nod.
random a/n: who wants to be moots plspls
"what'd rei say?" winter chimes in. you unlock your phone and open your messages.
"at 12am yesterday-- or today technically-- she just sent a paragraph of her apologizing and saying she hopes she's not the reason we broke up." you say. sunoo and winter silently read the text message before sunoo clears his throat.
"how'd she know you guys broke up?" sunoo asks. that's a pretty good point, you think. "either word got around very quick, or ni-ki scurried to tell her as soon as y'all broke up."
"i fear it's the latter option," winter says nervously, biting on her finger.
"i dont wanna go to school tomorrow!" you announce, leaning against the counter. "me and riki sit together in like every single class!"
"don't you have a good relationship with riki?" winter aks sunoo. "maybe you can talk to him."
"i guess i could," sunoo says hesitantly, "but i don't wanna start conflict."
"you don't have to," you reassure, "i can just confront him myself."
winter grins, as if saying "you know damn well." you shoot her a nasty look.
"what? you don't think i can do it?" you ask.
"how about we just take the simpler route," sunoo suggests, "you get a fake boyfriend to make him jealous."
"my life is NOT some sick wattpad fanfic," (đ¤) you grumble.
"oh yea, what was the other message rei sent you?" winter asks. you unlock your phone once more.
"its her asking me if i can unblock ni-ki," you groan, rolling your eyes. "this is so stupid."
"take my idea into account," sunoo reminds you. you side eye him but he tries to redeem himself. "a bunch of hot guys like to get jobs at the 7-11 a few blocks away from our campus. don't ask how i know. but anyways, most of them go to our school so maybe-- just maybe-- you could shoot your shot with one of them. just a suggestion."
you cross your arms and turn to face him fully.
"you want me to work at 7-11 just so i can pull some guys?" you ask.
"pretty much," he gives you a thumbs up.
"that's kind of smart, though!" winter says, slinging her hand arpund your shoulder. "you should consider it."
'hmm, maybe," you sigh. "let's just focus on cleaning for right now?" you suggest, resuming your tidying. sunoo and winter agree, going back to cleaning up.
it's gonna be a long week.
pt.2 coming soon :)
 I didnt know where Matt was taking me. We were going to the country side? âMatt please tell me youre not a murderer and are kidnapping meâ. i say and Matt laughs. âDont worry, i wont kill you but i am taking you to a forestâ. âOh fuckâ. when we got there it was a trail for hikers but Matt told me it looked better at sunset. so we eventually gathered the left over soda and pizza and some blankets to take with us.
 We walked a little further to the trail. We set everything up and i saw Matt lighting a cigarette. âYou smoke now?â. I ask him. âSometimes, not a lotâ. Matt offers me. I take it, im not s smoker but ill never deny one once in a while. The sun was getting low and Matt started talking. âtell me something nobody knows about youâ. i really think about it. âThat I never regretted that night with you and even though of what happened i still dont think it was a mistakeâ. I say and take a hit of the cigarette.Â
âonce s girl told me she didnt regret her first time being with me, and i told her initially it was a mistake, i fucked up and i threw everything away, even if we stayed friends i always wonder what more we coulve been, what shoulve been us, im sorry Bows, i know I hurt you but i mean it, ive meant everyword i have said for the past week.â.
 âMatt-â i say sniffing. Im cut off by Matt mouth strangling mine. I breathe outâmatt, im sorry tooâ. âDont be, you didnt do anything wrongâ We go back to kissing. matts hands on my waist and my hands travelling from his hair to his chest. Our kiss got deeper, we were both laying on the blanket, Matt pinning me down. âMattâ. I say put of breathe as he starts kissing my neck.Â
âI need you, pleaseâ. I say searching his face. His gaze held on mine as he starts to look for a condom in the mini van. He stands up and searches for it and curses underneath his breathe. âShit, i dont have hereâ. âI say standing up. âSoâŚâ i say. âI can wait till we get homeâ i say as i move closer to Matt. âFuck, im sorry princess i need you tooâ. He says as he pulls me against him by the waist. âlets get going thenâ. I say. We get in the car and i dont think ive ever seen matt drive that fast.Â
When we got home, we went up the stairs kissing, until we heard voices. âShitâ I whispered. Matt and I got ourselves together and we walked up the stairs. We saw Nick and Chris sitting on the couch. âHey guysâ I say. âHey, What did yâall do all day?â.. Nick asked. Matt responded âWe went to have lunch and then we went to the mallâ. âBut you donât have any bagsâ Chris started. âThere was nothing pretty, so we didnât buy anythingâ. âOh okayâ. Nick says. âIm going to head to sleepâ. Chris says. âYeah me tooâ Nick says. âChris you sleeping in my room?â. Nick asks. âYeahâ.Â
They both went up the stairs. Once we hear the door click shut. Me and Matt looked at each other, a huge smirk growing in his face. He took me in his hands and we started kissing. Matt backed up until my hips hit the table loudly. âShitâ Matt hissed. He grabbed my hand and led me to his room. Now in his room, he locked the door and pinned me against it. He starts to kiss my neck.
 His hands reach the hem of my sweater âCan I sweetheart?â. He asks. I nod and the sweater is thrown to the floor leaving me with my black lingerie bra. âOh god Bowsâ, he mutters. âWhat? Like what you see?â I say in a sassy tone. âDonât tempt me, baby youâve seen what I can doâ. I could feel the pool of heat being created in between my thighs. He takes my bra ooff and says âI canât believe Iâm seeing your fucking tattooââ. He starts kissing it.Â
Then I start kissing him, his neck, his jawline. I reach the hem of his shirt, he helps me discard it to the floor. I start kissing his chest down, and down and then up to his mouth. He takes control over me again when he put a hand underneath my thigh and pushes my legs up around his waist, a groan comes out of his mouth.
 He kisses between my breasts and gently puts me down on the mattress. Matt starts kissing me from my mouth, to my neck, to my chest, to my stomach and finally stops at where my jeans waistband lies. He looks up at me, seeking permission. âYes Mattâ I say. He is fast at unbuttoning my pants and throwing them to the floor. Matt started to puts kisses to my clothed clit.Â
I moan in need and want. âPlease Mattâ. I say. âYou have to be patient Bowsâ I groan. He finally takes my panties off and starts pressing kisses to my inner thighs until he gets to my wet folds. He runs a finger through them, I moan. âSo wet for me?â He asks with a smirk on his face. âMMaattt Pleaseeeeâ I whine. âAtta girlâ. Matts mouth starts exploring my folds. i moan.Â
âShh we donât want my brothers knowing how good I make you feelâ. âY-yesâ I breathe out struggling to keep quiet. Matts mouth is replaced by his fingers. I moan louder, this time Matt doesnât say anything, he just pulls up and starts kissing me to shut me up. âMat-t Iâm closeâ. I say. âNot yet baby, I havenât even startedâ. Matt takes out his fingers and licks them clean, as I was reaching my climax. âMatt! Are you fucking kidding me?â. I whine sitting up. âYou didnât even let me finish!â I continue. âWell youâre gonna have to wait, because youâll be coming when youâre riding me, so wait patienlyâ He grins and starts putting his pants down sitting in front of me. He lets out his length with precum on the tip. He grabs a condom puts it on and discards the wrapper.Â
Matt opens up my legs and positions his tip infront of my folds. I moan and he groans as he thrusts. I can feel my walls clenching around the length of him. âFuckâ he breathes out as he thrusts a little faster and harder. âFuck, Mattâ I groan against him neck.Â
He starts pressing kisses to my neck and he says âCome on babyâ as he fucks me harder. I shriek as he abruptly changes positions by grabbing my hips and putting me on his lap, for me to ride him. I start to rock my hips harder and faster each time. âOh god Mattâ I scream loudly âPlease Matt Iâm so closeâ I moan. âFuck Allyâ. âIm coming-gâ âRelease for me sweetheart Iâm right behind you.â We both become undone as our moans and breaths echo through the room. Breathing fast Matt kisses me and then below my earÂ
âThat was fucking amazing, Bowsâ. âIt wasâ I say as I get out from his hold and lay back down on the bed. âLetâs get you cleaned upâ He says standing up and grabbing a towel. He cleans my sensitive spot and cleans himself. He lays back down and puts his arms around my waist and kisses behind my ears. âGood night babyâ he says turning of his lights. âGood night Mattâ. I say turning to face him and kiss him.
February 3rd - Love and War by Tamar Braxton - Satoru Gojo x Reader
The early morning sun streamed through the blinds, casting golden streaks across the rumpled bed. You stirred, stretching lazily as consciousness tugged at you. For a brief, fleeting moment, the world felt peaceful. Satoruâs strong arm was slung over your waist, his breath warm against the nape of your neck. His proximity was comforting, like a shield against everything chaotic and uncertain in your lives.
But the cracks in your shield were growing.
It wasnât always this way. Loving Satoru Gojo had been an adventure at first, one filled with stolen kisses in moonlit streets, inside jokes, and late-night conversations that made you feel as if you could conquer anything. He had a way of making you feel like the center of the universe, like every moment spent with you was one he wouldnât trade for anything.
Yet, love wasnât enough to quiet the storms that seemed to follow himâor the ones that lived inside both of you.
You rolled over to face him, his messy white hair splayed against the pillow. Even in sleep, he looked ethereal, his long lashes brushing against his pale skin, his lips slightly parted. You wondered how someone so impossibly strong could look so peaceful, so vulnerable. For a moment, your heart softened, and you reached out to brush a strand of hair from his face.
But then the weight of yesterdayâs argument crept back in.
It had been about something trivial, as most fights were. He had come home lateâagainâand youâd asked him why he hadnât bothered to let you know. His answer had been frustratingly nonchalant, something about being caught up in work. It was always work, always curses, always the burdens he carried as the strongest sorcerer. You understood his responsibilities, truly, but understanding didnât erase the ache of feeling like an afterthought.
âGood morning,â his voice broke through your thoughts, groggy yet warm. His eyes, those stunning crystalline blues, opened to meet yours, and he gave you a sleepy smile. âYouâre staring. Am I that good-looking, or do I have drool on my face?â
You snorted despite yourself. âYouâre insufferable, you know that?â
âAnd yet, you love me,â he teased, pulling you closer.
You wanted to bask in the moment, to lose yourself in the comfort of his embrace, but the remnants of unresolved tension lingered between you like smoke after a fire. You pulled away, sitting up and swinging your legs over the side of the bed.
âSomething wrong?â Satoruâs voice lost its playful edge.
âNo,â you lied, not trusting yourself to say more without igniting another argument. âIâm just⌠tired.â
âTired?â he repeated, sitting up now. âTired of what?â
Of this, you wanted to say. Of fighting, of feeling like Iâm competing with the world for a place in your life. But instead, you shrugged. âI donât want to fight, Satoru.â
His jaw tightened. âNeither do I, but we canât keep sweeping things under the rug. If somethingâs bothering you, just say it.â
Your head whipped around, anger flaring. âOh, so now you want to talk? Where was that energy last night when I tried to tell you how I felt, and you brushed me off like I was being irrational?â
Satoru sighed, running a hand through his hair. âHere we go again.â
âDonât do that,â you snapped, standing. âDonât dismiss me like Iâm overreacting.â
He swung his legs over the bed, planting his feet firmly on the floor as he met your gaze. âIâm not dismissing you. I justâGod, I donât know how to do this sometimes, okay? Iâm not good at this.â
âAt what?â you demanded, arms crossed. âAt being in a relationship? At communicating? Because you sure as hell seem to have no problem talking when itâs about work or your students.â
âDonât,â he warned, his tone sharp. âDonât make this about that.â
âBut it is about that, Satoru!â you cried, the frustration bubbling over. âYou give so much of yourself to everyone elseâyour students, the Jujutsu world, the damn universe. And whatâs left for me? For us?â
His eyes darkened, the playful light you loved so much replaced by a storm. âYou think I donât give enough? That I donât try? Do you have any idea how much I juggle, how much pressure Iâm under every single day? Iâm doing the best I can!â
âAnd maybe your best isnât good enough!â The words left your mouth before you could stop them, and the moment they did, you saw the hurt flash across his face.
Silence hung heavy in the air, thick with tension and regret. You turned away, tears stinging your eyes. âI didnât mean that,â you whispered.
But the damage was done.
The day passed in strained silence. Satoru busied himself with a mission, leaving you alone with your thoughts. You wandered the apartment aimlessly, the weight of the argument pressing down on you like a suffocating blanket. You replayed his words, your words, every moment that led to this point.
Why did it always end like this? You loved himâGod, you loved himâbut sometimes love felt like a battlefield, a constant fight to stay afloat amidst the chaos.
By the time Satoru returned that evening, the sun had dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of deep orange and purple. He looked exhausted, his shoulders slumped as he kicked off his shoes. He glanced at you briefly before heading to the kitchen without a word.
You followed him, unable to stand the silence any longer. âSatoruââ
âIâm sorry,â he said, cutting you off. His back was to you as he rummaged through the fridge, but his voice was soft, almost fragile. âFor earlier. For last night. For everything.â
Your heart ached at the rawness in his tone. âIâm sorry too,â you said quietly. âI shouldnât have said what I said. I didnât mean it.â
He turned to face you, leaning against the counter with his arms crossed. âMaybe weâre both just terrible at this.â
âMaybe,â you agreed, a small, bitter laugh escaping your lips. âBut weâre in it together, right?â
Satoruâs expression softened, and he pushed off the counter, closing the distance between you. He cupped your face in his hands, his thumbs brushing away the tears you hadnât realized were falling. âWe are. No matter how many fights we have, no matter how messy it gets, Iâm not going anywhere.â
âPromise?â you whispered, your voice trembling.
âPromise,â he said, leaning down to press a soft kiss to your forehead. âI know I donât always show it, but youâre everything to me. And Iâll do better. Iâll try harder.â
You nodded, leaning into his touch. âMe too.â
The reconciliation was tender, but you both knew it wouldnât be the last fight. Loving Satoru was like weathering a stormâunpredictable, intense, but always worth it. And for all his flaws, for all the ways he drove you crazy, he was your storm. Your home.
The following weeks were a mix of highs and lows. There were moments when things felt perfect, when Satoru would surprise you with your favorite snacks or whisk you away for impromptu late-night adventures. But there were also moments when the cracks resurfacedâwhen his work consumed him, or when your insecurities crept back in.
One night, after a particularly grueling day for both of you, the tension boiled over again. It started smallâSatoru had forgotten to pick up dinner, and you were already irritable from a long day at work. The argument escalated quickly, words sharper than they should have been, tempers flaring like wildfire.
âYouâre so selfish sometimes!â you yelled, throwing your hands up in frustration.
âAnd youâre exhausting!â he shot back, his voice rising. âYou nitpick every little thing I do like Iâm some kind of project youâre trying to fix.â
The words cut deep, and you felt your chest tighten. âIs that what you think of me? That Iâm just some nagging presence in your life?â
Satoru ran a hand through his hair, his frustration evident. âI donât know what to think anymore.â
The silence that followed was deafening. Without another word, you grabbed your coat and stormed out of the apartment, ignoring his calls for you to wait.
You walked aimlessly through the city, the cool night air biting at your skin. Your mind raced with thoughts of Satoru, of the love you shared and the pain it often brought. Could you keep doing this? Could you survive the constant push and pull of your relationship?
When you finally returned home hours later, Satoru was waiting. He was sitting on the couch, his elbows resting on his knees, his head in his hands. He looked up as you entered, his eyes filled with guilt and relief.
âI thought you werenât coming back,â he said quietly.
You closed the door behind you, leaning against it as exhaustion washed over you. âI needed space.â
He stood, closing the distance between you in a few strides. âIâm sorry,â he said, his voice thick with emotion. âIâm sorry for what I said, for how I acted. I didnât mean it.â
Tears welled up in your eyes, and you shook your head
. âSatoru, we canât keep doing this. We canât keep hurting each other like this.â
âI know,â he said, his hands gripping your shoulders. âBut I donât know how to stop. I donât know how to be what you need.â
âI donât need you to be perfect,â you said, your voice breaking. âI just need you to try. To meet me halfway.â
âIâll try,â he promised, his forehead resting against yours. âIâll do whatever it takes. Just donât give up on us.â
âI wonât,â you whispered, your hands clutching his shirt. âI love you too much to give up.â
And in that moment, as you clung to each other amidst the wreckage of your latest fight, you knew that love wasnât about never fighting. It was about choosing each other, again and again, even when it was hard. Even when it hurt.
Because no matter how messy it got, Satoru Gojo was your person. And you were his.
âđđđ¤đ˘đ§' đ˛đ¨đŽ đŹđ˘đđ¤?â
cw: kinda fluff - light cussing, mention of fighting.
tropes: friends-to-lovers (kinda enemies), grumpy x grumpiest.
pairing: best friend!katsuki bakugou x f!reader.
if there was something that for the surprise of both of us never made any truly mad, that was probably how neither of us could've won. Each other, of course.
me, and him that have always "allowed" me to follow him around; we never won from a fight against one another. Always truly infuriating but we never thought about it that deep since our friendship was way more important than this shit, even if none of us would admit it out loud. But here am I, I've stopped to take a brief moment and think about it all, since Mina called me out:
"girl y'know that ain't normal for such talented person such as yourself..."
she took a pause, trying go figure if that was what she was going to say, frustrated because couldn't find her "right" words, kept going
"and your, uh, friend?" giggled "it's not possible that none of you are able to win."
it's frustrating how kats' spends more time in my mind than I would find enjoyable... not that I would find enjoyable thinking of him; but lord it could be way less.
so it all started to descend in ruins in our first spar in a while. I wasn't feeling really good, but denying something to him, mainly when it comes to a fight, it's something that you'll never forget. Why? the spoiled brat will make sure you never forget how weak, self aware and fearful you were; afraid of losing to a god like him, even if he was completely convinced it was obvious you wouldn't. He is a complete fool, a natural.
but how I was delighted to fight with this fool every time. All of our fights were so deep highlighted by not holding back ever. A dance only we could pull up, our momentary show that makes everything worth it, even losing. Letting go all of the social cues, obligations and images of ourselves; only pure and raw anger.
until we are too tired to keep going, to sick of using one another to it's own sake, quirks denying their activation and lungs burning like hell.
a good visit to recovery girl (who couldn't stand our bullshit anymore), a bath in an almost shared dorm; and a nap. Him not insisting, but sleeping in the ground, me in his oh so sweet scented sheets. An ether aroma that never failed into embracing me to sleep, never.
"wake up." he would throw a pillow at me, even if his voice was almost tender when he commanded. I would look annoyed at him taking my deep breath, too sore from the day before to discuss, just like him.
"what time is it?" monotone voice, almost closed eyes, he would smirk. Shit, he made me late on purpose, and I fell for it again.
"shit kats', I fucking hate you!" got up and went all fast to my dorm, luckily the door aside.
"but I love you..." he murmured, before I could get out the door. What the fuck?
I turned to look to him, in total disbelief, a hint of hope in the corner of my eyes, for sure. He fixed his uniform belt.
"Tyler the creator." looked deeply at me, felt like it was through my soul and back. "IFHY." how well I knew him, he was trying act nonchalant.
"sure" even for that tiny brief moment that the stars aligned and time has peaked its final form, stopped and stood completely between us; I've still left for my dorm, looking desperately for my uniform.
the classroom had a weird taste as the day follow its steps, I wasn't in the mood for conversations and my friends respected my boundaries. Just feeling nostalgic for things that wasn't that much time ago, and for others that were way to long.
and feeling melt under his gaze.
all classes finally had their ending, stretching myself close to the door after finishing cleaning, taking my shoe's and being stopped mid-going-away.
"wanna go buy groceries?" he was legit serious, like, drop dead serious. Even if it was out of nowhere; I said a weirdly uneventful: "yeah, why not?".
walking there was awkward, a constant feeling that there's something being unsaid. I didn't dare looking his way, too afraid I would spill what I've been thinking, and how it have been almost all of the time about him. He wasn't particularly comfortable either, not from the way he was constantly itching the nape of his neck.
I stopped, because my body suddenly told me to. Not that it was right, but it felt right and necessary. He made the same, turning to face me.
"what?" he was feeling the nitroglycerin escaping from his palms, his body telling him to fight but not to talk.
"there's something you want to tell me?" he did a micro reaction, his eyes briefly grow bigger and went back to usual as fast. "there's something you need to tell but feel like you can't?".
he laughed not too hard, more in disbelief than anything.
"you're a pain in the ass huh?" unbelievable how you could predict, what himself couldn't say out loud.
"yeah, with the ones that deserves it!" you both giggled, feeling the tension in the air fade away.
he leaned towards you, just enough so he could see all of you. Not only outside but inside too, your eyes telling him exactly what he needed; the weird reassurance of your presence.
"you're makin' me sick." he told you calmly, brows furrowed in concentration.
"makin' you sick?" you said half smiling, almost teasingly. Until it snapped. You knew katsuki, he wouldn't say that in a appropriate way. Your face giving away the fact you've already got everything figured out.
he gave you that shit-eating grin, turning his back and keeping his steps not so steady so you could easily catch up.
he made you sick to your guts too.
â¸notes: that was actually so fun to write, even if it's short đ
Suresh's nose had fixed itself, there had been nothing to stop it from going back to what it was supposed to look like so it straightened itself without any further interference. The Naga grinned, "I was keeping you prone. You kicked me in the face. Slightly different... -what do the children say these days- Vibes? But you're right. Even is even." It wasn't something to stay on. He could move past it for the time being. He listened to the laugh. Interested in the sound. He knew that Callum hadn't been telling the whole truth but Suresh was not about to wholesale believe the witch. Not now, not ever. He simply nodded, "That is what he told me." Because it had been. He leaned his head on the couch and listened to whatever semblance of the truth poured from Corvinus' lips. The relationships with the Lightless was contentious at best but they had found a common ground until the man sitting across from him had appeared. Suresh nodded his head. The way Corvinus told it was a bit different than how the Hellhound had painted the circumstances. And somewhere in the middle was what had actually had happened. Suesh nodded again and said, "Yes, I believe he called you a walking abomination." But that was between Loughty and his god. His need to right the scales. True believers had their place in all orders. Suresh's golden talons clicked against each other as he folded his hand over his chest. At the string of mostly rhetorical questions Suresh shrugged, "Why do any of us hide anything? Because we do not trust." The comment about nagas and Callum made Suresh's eyes narrow and he shook his head, "Naga's are natural. Old or not. Just because no one knows what our life expectancy actually is... we are natural." Well, they were natural. Whatever he'd done to augment himself... that was something else.
Suresh considered what Corvinus thought would be the things that he would reject outright. He wasn't going to give Corvinus a blank check. The Naga let out a soft amused noise when the witch said he didn't mind getting his own hands dirty. Of course. "If you are disliked that is entirely up to you." But whatever the witch chose to do he would do. A favor that he could reject was fine with Suresh.
He glanced down at his hands. Looking at his talons. Then back back up at Corvinus. "The talons are what bother you? Really? Alright then." He cracked his neck and drew in a breath and a soft shimmer on his hands, talons gone like they had never been. "Standing in the rubble looking across at each other... No. There is no rush. Though the next time I think neither of us will be holding back like we were..." A soft acknowledgement that what had happened between them was a mere skirmish. "Most people that know what I can do either crave it or are repulsed by it. I'm not fond of either reaction." Suresh reached his right hand out across the space between them, palm up, offering it to the witch. "You don't have to pretend." He held it there waiting, just to see what he would do.
An elemental witch... It didn't feel right. But wanted a face to the Nameless. Something with no face and no real intentions were difficult to guard against. And there was always the possibility that the leader could be trapped and then killed. However Suresh was not in a rush to gather all the important people in the city into one spot for the Nameless to possibly act against. "I will reach out along the channels I am able to use. And give you a location when appropriate. But why offer him up? You could have given him one of us couldn't you?" Suresh agreed that others feared power. It's why he hid so much of his. His eyes drifted over Corvinus' face as he spoke about being erased from living and written memory. "We've seen our share of Ozymandias' I think. But for us, it goes in cycles. We are the gods and we are the monsters. It just depends on the age and who writes the histories. But we are the myths and legends. Things that the others can only hope to aspire to."
He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at the mention of being slapped, as if they both hadn't taken their fair share of blows for the night. At least Corvinus had wrapped up his fairly quickly. Torture nonetheless but it had been fairly quick and not so...invasive. Or at least in his own eyes. "And you broke several of my bones. What's a little kick in the nose for that?" A nose could gush blood easily, that was true, but it allowed him a glimpse of the healing in Suresh as well. Not as quick, but effective either way. He did wonder if it would automatically set properly like his own body or if it would fuse into whatever position it was left in. But at the mention of Callum, oh, that earned a whole laugh. "A territory dispute? That's what he told you? Oh, he is quite the liar then. There was no territory dispute. Just because our countries aren't far from each other doesn't mean mean anything. I've never once claimed all of bloody Ireland and certainly not Scotland. I have an estate and property around it, that's all I ask others to not step into."
Clearly the man was trying to keep things under wraps, to hide his history from the others. Corvinus knew better, had come face to face with what the Lightless leader now tried to hide. It did make Corvinus all the more curious what else the renowned Hellhound was trying to keep hidden. What was one blood witch the others were aware of? Who else had he gone after. "I call him the cĂş sĂdhe. Hellhound, not too much of a thing to us Irish. I'd never even heard of him before but apparently he had a name amongst others. It just wasn't important enough to reach me so there couldn't have been any territory dispute to begin with. I was happily minding my own business at the time." Well, not exactly. He had been meddling around in political affairs at the time but that wasn't important. "He found me. He hunted me. All because my lifespan defies 'natural order' as he put it and I had blood on my hands. That's what he did. He sought out those that were alive for too long and snuffed them out, or if they committed any sort of egregious crime that justice had not been served. Judge, jury, executioner." Of course, Corvinus had learned all of that after the fact, when he had become aware of Callum and had temporarily been on his radar. Corvinus had simply gotten bored of tracking him across Europe and a few other continents.
Though a thought did occur to him. "It makes you wonder, doesn't it? Why hide it? What else has he killed for sins or for simply living longer than others?" He was staring into space for a moment, as if considering, before his gaze returned to Suresh. "What do you think he would do if another very old naga had crossed his path? Perhaps that's why he hid it from you."
The scale was a reach, he knew that. Especially after he had just been caught with naga blood; it meant it would most certainly not be used for mere decoration and would simply go into spellwork. Likely against Suresh himself. But he took the rejection in stride, giving only a small shrug though certainly a face of disappointment at the potential to deny a favour. "Oh, don't worry. I won't ask you to kill anyone or anything like that. Or any pieces of you. I have no issue getting my own hands dirty. Think of it as more insurance down the road. Especially if I'm so disliked within this city and want to enjoy my time here." Hopefully enough of a reassurance that whatever the favour was shouldn't be too gruesome though Corvinus couldn't say for sure. He merely liked the idea of being owed.
How quick the other was to retreat. He rose an eyebrow, gaze drifting down the other's long form and eyes particularly on the talons. Those were his main concerns for the moment. "Put the claws away and I certainly wouldn't mind if you did. The thing with us ancient beings is...we don't have to rush to kill each other. I could wait another thousand years and still have every chance to come back and end you if I wanted. The mortals, their lives are so fleeting. If they don't kill now, they may not have another chance. There have been surprisingly few that have upset me enough to warrant me murdering them right away." Though those that did...well, he always went beyond simply attacking them and killing them. Even killing was a game. Wipe out the family, leave them for last, let them know they were being hunted and let them live in fear of it.
At least he was getting somewhere, one step closer into settling in officially as the leader of the Nameless. An order here and there didn't mean much while he was still pulling the strings from the shadows. There was clearly a dislike for the actions so far, but no real admiration for how far he could get just yet. That would come with the meeting. "An elemental, I believe. He didn't want to talk too much about his powers." But he would invite the others. Gather them all. There was a brief though it would be the perfect setting to destroy them at once but that was hardly any fun and would only descend into chaos so quickly. "Simply tell me where to be and I'll make sure he's there. You finally get the meeting he's been avoiding and thankfully I'm quite good at luring. As for being so disliked....people just don't appreciate power. They fear it instead. But it's better than damnatio memoriae." Something he'd ensured for his predecessors.
hello! I really like your meta about Zuko, and I'm so glad that I finally found a person who also thinks that Zuko in book 3 is a much worse person than he was in the book 1. I always thought that something was wrong with me, since literally no one sees this obvious fact for me! But I would like to ask you: What do you think about Katara in book 3? the fact is that she was my favorite character in books 1 and 2, and the way she was written in book 3 upset me a lot. it seems to me that they spoiled her character, but I can't explain why. Please share your thoughts!
Glad you've enjoyed my extensive meta on the fandom's fave, haha. I did write a lot about him, always nice to know my thoughts on the subject are still deemed relevant.
As for Katara... well, I have thoughts on her, too. My experience with her character is quite similar to yours, I'd say, because I too felt a lot better about her character in the first two seasons of the show compared with the third. I don't usually give this a ton of thought, but after your ask, I figured I'd try and figure out what exactly went down with her that made people like us feel so uncomfortable with Katara's portrayal at multiple points of Book 3...
For starters, I'll say I vibed with Katara a lot when I started the show for reasons beyond her being a great character or being written wonderfully: she could very well have been written mediocrely and I would have loved her anyway simply because I ran away from anime to ATLA in an era where anime kept shoehorning incest undertones into every sibling relationship, even in shows that didn't have that as a core subject. It happened at least twice that I can remember, I kept seeing people raving about shows where it WAS the core of it (I still do not understand the Oreimo deal, like, the minute I read that show's title I puked in my mouth and knew I'd never watch it), and I just needed... safety from that concept, I guess?
So when I went into ATLA, and the first sibling relationship you're exposed to is Sokka and Katara, two siblings who very much act like siblings? I was thriving. It was thrilling. I felt so refreshed that I think I didn't care much about the flaws of Book 1, despite my inability to sense direction for most of it, because thank the universe, it was a sibling relationship that made sense to me!
With that as an opening, I'd say that, initially, I thought Katara was fine for most of Book 1. In Book 2? She fell off the radar for me a bit simply because other characters are introduced that just appeal to me so much more than she does. I vibe better with characters like Azula, who tend to be the type of female character I just LOVE, and with characters like Toph, she's a tomboy, I was a tomboy (... was? x'D maybe I shouldn't use past tense...), so I gravitated much more towards those two by no real fault of Katara's core personality traits. Back in Book 1, there aren't as many main characters, so you don't have a lot of variety to choose faves from. It's not that strange, I think, that once the cast broadens, people's interest in certain characters can scatter too.
But then Book 3 happened, and I just couldn't enjoy Katara outside of episodes where she wasn't that important. The Katara-centric episode of Book 3 stand among my least favorite episodes of ATLA altogether, and among the least likely episodes I'd ever want to rewatch. I literally skipped over The Painted Lady in my first rewatches of the show, every bit as much as I skipped The Great Divide or Avatar Day, both of which annoy me a lot in the first two seasons. The Puppetmaster? Not even close to being an episode I could enjoy. Even the Runaway, that's supposed to be Toph-centric, ends up making me count down the minutes for it to end and I'm not even going to get started on The Southern Raiders and the absolute can of worms that episode is...
So, with all this being said, if we peel this particular cabbage open little by little...
After mulling it over, I've grown to suspect that Katara has major inconsistency issues since day one that most people don't particularly like to acknowledge, and that flew over most of our heads from the beginning of the show. She's pretty much portrayed to us as an empath, someone who has so much heart that she can't help but feel everyone's pain and suffer with them all the time. The fandom 100% acts like that's who she is (while also obsessively adultifying her unnecessarily, and forcing her into the mom!friend role, which... we'll talk about that later)
But this is also the same character who, when her brother banished Aang from the Southern Water Tribe as early as in episode 2, protested in a very particular way once Aang was gone. Which one of these statements sound more accurate to Katara's character, and a suitable protest for her to proclaim upon witnessing this injustice against Aang?
"Aang is alone! How could you send him away on his own? He could be in danger, Sokka! He's just a kid!"
"The Air Nomads are gone, Sokka! Where do you think he'll go? He doesn't have a home to go back to and you just sent him away!"
"You happy now? There goes my one chance at becoming a waterbender!"
If you ask the fandom? They'll most likely think that her reaction was either #1 or #2.
Surprise surprise: it was actually #3
I'm not saying she didn't show empathy towards Aang while Sokka was ranting at him, because she did. I'm not saying she wasn't willing to be banished along with Aang until Sokka asks if she'd choose pretty much a total stranger over their family and tribe, because she was. She absolutely did all those things.
... So why would she focus only on how he represented her one chance at becoming a waterbender once Aang is gone?
This feels off to me. I've never particularly liked that line. And you could absolutely say that Katara has every right to be mad at losing her chance to reclaim an aspect of her culture that she cannot connect to, but the way it was framed here? It absolutely makes Katara look more selfish than she actually was. The wording is not good. The show doesn't emphasize, at this point, that bending is such a core and crucial part of their culture and that Katara feels a major responsibility in being the ONLY person in the South Pole that can keep it alive. So it just comes off as a child's tantrum. Sokka's concerns were 100% valid too, even if he went about them while being a jerk (he is, indeed, an older brother...). He wasn't even wrong in the end about how dangerous Aang was to their tribe, since Aang's mishap with Katara on the ship gives away his position to Zuko, and it results in Zuko ramming a huge ship into their home and nearly killing people in the process. But you DON'T see the show fully framing it as though Katara and Aang did something wrong -- it was an honest mistake. We know it was. Sokka is framed as unreasonable for being so paranoid even though later events in the very episode prove he wasn't.
And that's... the crux of the issue with Katara's writing. If you ask me.
There are far too many instances where Katara makes mistakes that she's not held accountable for, that she doesn't apologize for, that run against the core logic and principles of her character and they either get shrugged off or overlooked. There are far too many situations where she acts out, and is a jerk at her jerk of a brother, even unprompted on occasion, and it's supposed to just be funny. One particularly stood out to me when I revisited it a few years ago, I can't really remember what for (maybe when I was writing Jeong Jeong's arc in Gladiator and I had a look at the fishing village...?), but it's the famous flashback episode in Book 1: The Storm.
The scene in question is... humorous. Supposedly. Katara is trying to buy fruit in the market but then realizes they have no money to pay for it. Not only does Katara piss off the vendor, but the vendor actually takes her rage out on Sokka once she realizes these kids won't give her any business: he gets kicked in the rear, as the transcript's description says. No one protests the woman's violent reaction, not even Sokka. Katara most certainly doesn't do it. But that's not all there is to it: Sokka doesn't hold what happened with the fruit vendor against Katara, they have a conversation on how they have no money and no food... and Katara offers him the golden ticket solution to their problems:
"You could get a job, smart guy."
Am I too feminist for thinking it's insane that Katara expects her brother alone to get the job? That she's not saying the THREE of them should get jobs? She and Aang are BENDERS! That's an asset most people aren't likely to find in any would-be employees in the central Earth Kingdom! So... wouldn't it be logical for all of them to do it? But no, instead, Sokka alone has to get the job?
And yes, I know, Sokka is the provider, Sokka is the protector, Sokka would do ANYTHING for his sister and the people he loves: you ask the fandom, though, and that's Katara instead of him. Moments like these simply do not exist in the fandom's eyes and, if they do, they're just excusable because Sokka is boring/weird/annoying/insert-demeaning-nonsense-here and Katara is a queen who can do whatever she wants.
Then, the consequences arrive once Sokka gets a dangerous job on a fishing boat and nearly gets killed in a storm. Aang is the one who shows concern about the potential storm when the fisherman's wife brings it up: from all I can see in the transcript, there's nothing from Katara. Sokka says they told him to get a job, so that's what he's doing, and there's no manifestation of concern from either of them about maybe joining him on this fishing trip to ensure he's safe. Instead, Aang is haunted by his past and Katara goes with him when he leaves, which, yes, is very important for context on the Air Nomads and Aang's life... and yet we don't really NEED for this scene to be Katara and Aang only. It could've included Sokka too. The plot of the second half of the episode would change? Likely. They could've come up with another idea, and not shown us a Katara who doesn't show concern for her brother's safety or any remorse when her unfair demands or expectations from him could result in catastrophic outcomes :') yes, she worries about Sokka's safety once the storm hits, but there's no sign of her feeling responsible for Sokka being out in the storm at all. No apology. Which is ironic, because Zuko apologizes to Iroh in that very same episode, hence, an apology from Katara to her brother could have mirrored that side of the story well, and they REALLY loved doing Zuko-Gaang parallel scenes like that, so it would have fit perfectly! Didn't happen, though.
Point being... Katara's compassion and empathy are not absolute. It's important to keep in mind is that they don't need to be! But precisely because she falters with them in moments where she REALLY shouldn't, with people as important to her as her own brother? It becomes very difficult to believe that she's the empath the fandom is convinced she is, and that the show's narrative tries to push her as.
The real reason why her failure to show compassion to Sokka in "humorous" situations feels so unnerving isn't because she's a typical little sister who takes her brother for granted (which is a perfectly logical/believable behavior!): it's because there are no consequences for it. Maybe at some point or another there were? But I for one can't remember many instances where Katara failed Sokka and it was framed as her fault and her responsibility. Let's look at other Book 1 instances that exemplify what I mean:
She freezes him to the deck of Zuko's ship, which puts Sokka in MAJOR danger, and she just tells him to hurry up as if it weren't her fault that he's frozen in the first place. We don't even see her making efforts to thaw him out of there when she IS the waterbender so it seems logical that she should be able to help with that (and if she's too inexperienced to do it? The least she can do to help her brother out of a dangerous situation is to TRY???). But apparently it's funny that she doesn't help him when it's her fault! So this is fine!
She endangers the entire group over the waterbending scroll, which, of course, the pirates had no right to have anyway and it's reasonable that she'd want it for herself... but she antagonized a group of fully adult, dangerous, potential murderous pirates, against Sokka's constant warnings that they shouldn't pick that particular fight. As far as I can remember? Her apologies on that episode are exclusively about how she hurt Aang's feelings by being jealous over his greater talents as a bender. Basically, nothing for Sokka, no apology for not listening to him about danger, making it worse when the very final moment features Katara proudly telling her brother that she won't steal things... unless it's from pirates. So lesson not learned because it's funny, again, to never acknowledge that Sokka has a point.
She actually cares about Sokka's fate in Jet! But the thing is... the narrative doesn't frame that as Katara's fault. Because it's not. Jet made his choices and he did awful things and he captured Sokka, lied and gaslit everyone, because he had a goal to fulfill and he used Katara to make that happen. As angry and upset as Katara is, it's not exactly shown that Katara is sorry for having trusted Jet when Sokka could have ended up paying a deadly price for it. She's angry at the betrayal, even in Book 2 it's constantly framed as though Katara is upset at him as an ex-girlfriend would be upset at her ex-boyfriend for lying to her rather than, you know, being pissed at him for nearly killing her brother + an entire village. My point is, the narrative framing never holds her responsible for Jet's choices. Which, again, she's not. But she IS responsible for her own choices... and one of those choices was disregarding Sokka's warnings about Jet. THAT was her fault, and her responsibility. She jumped to conclusions and assumed that Sokka was bitter and jealous that Jet was the charming cool leader Sokka could never be. There were no apologies to Sokka over that, either.
I could go on, and on, and on. The truth is, I bring all this up to show with solid evidence that Katara's writing was always a little... unstable. Weird. Disconnected from logic in many regards, I'd say. It's not logical/compatible to tell us that this character has the BIGGEST heart of the entire cast when she fails to show that heart to none other than her own brother, who is inarguably the person who she knows best and with whom she should share the closest relationship, even as her friendship with Aang grows and thrives. That makes no sense, thematically speaking.
Is it meant to be comedic? Yes, every bit as much as Iroh sexually harassing June was done for comedy's sake. That's not an excuse for characters behaving in ways that are thematically contrary to what they're supposed to be portraying... and along with that? No excuse for them facing zero consequences for that behavior. Which is, in fact, my main issue with these flaws from Katara: I have no issue with the writing choices in the scenes I listed just now! I take issue, however, with the lack of follow-up and consequences that you can BET, 100%, would have befallen Sokka if it had been him instead of Katara acting that way. He faced consequences even for things he didn't do, for comedy's sake: he wouldn't have gotten away with disregarding Katara's safety as often as Katara did with him, no chance at all.
Ultimately, these scenes in Book 1 are kind of ignorable in the larger scheme of things (or at least, that's how the fandom has always acted). Not a lot of people take any of this as major proof of characterization for Katara. You won't see a lot of fic writers showing her acting like this. Canon, though, often would go down this route for funsies, and the comics certainly did it plenty too, that I can remember. Part of the issue here is that, as funny as it is, it also makes Katara feel stale as a character, as does the Sokka-Katara dynamic, at large, because there's no progression for it. That's probably my greatest gripe with the Great Divide, believe it or not: it fakes being an episode where Sokka and Katara are going to be confronted over their conflictive tendencies, and the ONLY potential development in that basically-filler episode SHOULD HAVE BEEN Sokka and Katara learning to be a bit more harmonious and respectful of each other? ... And that's just not what happened at all. The status quo remains exactly the same after that episode, and it continues to be like that until the end of the show.
The real reason why Sokka and Katara are deemed the healthy siblings is because, of course, compared with the other main set of siblings in the show, these two appear to get along wonderfully. But the truth is, their relationship is not as dynamic as it deserved to be. And that's part of why Book 3 ends up failing in ways Book 1 might not have, while having similar flaws: Book 1 is when you're still getting to know these kids, and that's why I find its flaws far more forgivable than anything that comes later. When there's basically no development for that connection at all, Book 3 winds up falling flat with characters like Sokka and Katara and the bond between them.
All this being said... I'm not saying that Katara is terrible in Book 1. I still stand by the fact that I really enjoyed her character in many instances of this season, there absolutely are situations where she sasses Sokka that still make me crack a smile, and genuinely humorous situations that don't paint her in a questionable light over her lack of concern for her brother's safety. Her fight to earn the right to be trained as a waterbender is deeeeeply flawed but it's not her fault, it's more the misogyny of the writers/creators that decided that a betrothal necklace from his past would make Pakku unlearn all his sexism and get over his bullshit right after beating up a girl who was fighting tooth and nail to make him acknowledge her. That he only acknowledges her because he wanted to marry her grandmother is... uh... fuckboi behavior even when he's well over 70 years of age? XD
So, yeah, Book 1 still has my favorite Katara of the entire show even though I REALLY wish she wouldn't get away with things that other characters wouldn't get a pass for (... well... other than Zuko...). I can't enjoy her as much as I enjoy other characters because I really don't like it when characters aren't held accountable for serious mistakes they made.
Moving on to Book 2, though, and leaving behind my greatest gripe with Katara's Book 1 writing (lack of direct consequences/self-reflection on her part), Book 2's biggest sin when it comes to Katara is the beginning of the "mothering" trope. I honestly did not feel motherly vibes from Katara towards anyone in Book 1. Sokka is very often the one playing the responsible role, while Aang and Katara are seeing the world, practicing their bending, doing reckless and fun things. The entire thing about Katara being the mom friend started in Book 2 when she suddenly becomes the epitome of responsibility (well... kinda) when Toph joins the group. She still does sketchy stuff with zero consequences (I'll forever complain about how ice is not cold in this show, the kids she froze to the wall may have been dicks, but freezing someone alive that way should have resulted in serious health repercussions, just as ANY case of freezing someone alive should have, ffs, be it Zuko in Book 1's finale or Azula + Katara in Book 3's...), but once Toph is part of the group, she becomes the cool girl who's "one of the boys", and now Katara is "the mom". This dynamic gets forced into the story pretty much right after Toph joins the group. And after that? It doesn't really change for the better often. There are only a handful of instances where Katara wasn't acting wholesome and comforting and kind and compassionate in Book 2 (... particularly with Sokka, ofc), but the point where her dynamics, even with Aang, start to feel motherly is definitely Book 2.
And this adds to the issue, in the end: Katara's appeal as the main girl in the show is suddenly gone because Toph is here, and she's a way more unique character that the writers definitely were having fun working with, probably more fun than they had with Katara. So they had to find a new niche for her, I'd dare guess. Thus, instead of actually building up an awesome and solid friendship between Katara and Toph, they mostly just clash and collide. Toph is basically the ONLY character who gives Katara grief and isn't framed as in the wrong for it, which is its own set of issues (namely, Toph not being challenged enough by the narrative, which stunts her character growth), but among many things, we suddenly get shown that Katara is a girly girl who likes makeup and she ropes Toph into this when nothing we've seen so far suggests that Toph would be comfortable with that. Katara pushes her into doing things because they're the "girls of the group"... and it doesn't often look like Toph's feelings on anything are important when Katara is pushing her around for whatever purpose. I'm not saying Toph hated the spa day, she certainly had fun eventually, but even when the comics made a "Katara and Toph's day out" story, where Toph got to choose what to do for once, the story devolved into Katara's show anyway, and things concluded with Toph deciding they're better off doing girly things together when they want to hang out because Katara is just too intense for the things Toph would like to do.
This isn't even in the show, but it's basically a response to Tales of Ba Sing Se to try and even out Katara and Toph's one-sided dynamic, where Katara calls the shots of their entertainment... and even then, Toph doesn't really get what she's looking for. But Katara does get that out of Toph because all she wants is a girl to do girly things with and Toph provides that in the end, no matter how much of a tomboy she may be. Toph might just want a friend who loves the things she loves, and who knows, Katara could be that person! But the story never leads her in that direction so we never see that happen. And that's why that particular friendship never really... clicked for me. Their dynamics don't really feel enjoyable to me as they were written in the show, even though they very much could have been.
That's one thing I'll always give ATLA: the character potential and synergy they captured with that cast could be absolutely incredible. Team Avatar is so iconic because they really could work well off each other. A lot of teams in other media just aren't this good (... one of my main reasons to not enjoy Voltron and drop it in season 1 was my absolute failure to find any synergy between those characters, it felt like they all hated each other and I honestly did not enjoy their dynamics in the least), but Aang, Katara and Sokka have great synergy due to their different personalities in Book 1. Same when Toph joins them in Book 2. Zuko ABSOLUTELY could have been better in the group than he was if Book 3 hadn't devolved into the Zuko Woobifying Show by the second half, where the only writing priority was making him friends with everyone, and making them all feel sorry for him and have compassion towards him. But, broken down to his core traits, Zuko's personality would have resulted in solid chemistry with everyone else's if they'd gotten off that agenda anyway! So ultimately, ATLA has a big win in this respect that a lot of TV shows would LOVE to recreate but they simply haven't struck the right kind of balance in character traits.
Hence why the way they wrote Toph and Katara's dynamics kind of feels like a betrayal to me. Those two could have been a lot of fun, they have EVERYTHING it takes to be entertaining characters with not a ton of things in common and yet building a solid friendship that hinges on their differences. I've seen a fair few examples of that kind of dynamic in other media, and it absolutely would be possible with Toph and Katara. It's really unfair that they couldn't capture their dynamics in such a way that both characters would SHINE, rather than constantly resorting to conflicts between them that never seemed to truly be resolved.
So: Toph should not be a problem for Katara. She should enhance her character and doesn't because of writing failures. One of the core failures is "mom friend Katara", of course: there's nothing inherently wrong with Katara stepping up and taking care of people she loves, but there's something very wrong with it when she's suddenly portrayed as this motherly figure when she's doing things that Sokka had been doing just fine in Book 1. Main reason why this is the case? Sokka got dumbed down to full-time class clown for whatever reason in Book 2. While he has good moments, a lot of times they went WAY overboard with making him a source of comedy this season and that, too, contributes to mom friend Katara. Since Sokka is being so meh? We even feel relieved that Katara is there to keep things together because nobody can expect the other three to do it, right? But... Sokka was doing it in Book 1. And there's no real development to explain him NOT doing it anymore once Toph joins in besides "Katara is now the mom friend and Sokka is just here to be funny". It's not organic development: it's forcing tropes that just don't fit. And while Katara's mothering doesn't feel as unpleasant as it could here, it ultimately forces a new interpretation and portrayal of her character that honestly isn't all that interesting, most of all when the other characters are constantly portrayed as "more fun" while she's just here to keep them in line.
It just isn't the same Katara we met in Book 1, and it shows in spades. Book 1 Katara would have been hyped to join Aang and Toph in chaos while Sokka screams at them to behave themselves. Book 2 Katara is the one trying to keep the other three in line, and there's genuinely zero development that led things to that stage. It's not organic storytelling. There's no growth that leads to that, and so, it feels off.
But the core problem of all these flaws in Book 1 and Book 2 is that they roll together and snowball into something far greater that then proceeds to just... disrupt everything we thought we knew or understood about Katara. We've been told she's a kind person above all else, someone who cares about people close to her, someone who embodies hope and strength and love...!
... And then Book 3 starts, and we're actually facing a Katara who shifts into a wholly different person with the speed of a whiplash that we're left not knowing who tf this is anymore.
"Mom friend Katara" absolutely comes back in Book 3, why lie? She takes care of people, she tries to provide, she tries to be nice and sweet and then also enforces discipline on Toph (particularly) when she's being irresponsible!
But the reason why The Runaway is such an unpleasant episode is because Katara's behavior is dialed up to a thousand, and the conflict between her and Toph feels WAY too similar to what it was when they were barely getting to know each other in The Chase. Why are they STILL clashing over such things? There are occasional glimpses of friendliness there in The Runaway, sure! But they're not so strong that you actually feel like that friendship supersedes their conflicts and their propensity to bicker and argue and hurt each other. Toph blatantly calls her out on her mothering and fully canonically confirms that Katara is The Mom Friendâ˘. Where Toph is annoyed but eventually complies with doing what Katara wants to do in Tales of Ba Sing Se, this time Katara makes a huuuuuge fuss over Toph's misbehavior and her scamming Fire Nation people. And you could argue that Toph has every right to do it, or that Katara is right to be worried, just like Sokka used to worry about such things in Book 1...
But what we get is a stale dynamic that repeats the same problems we saw in Book 2, as well as Katara coming off as rather hypocritical because she, too, did dangerous shit and picked dangerous fights where she shouldn't have, and ignored everyone who told her not to do it: she gave Toph that kind of grief over things Katara was willing to do back when Toph wasn't in the group (see the pirates thing), and she will try to stop Toph from having fun on her own terms when nobody has ever tried to stop Katara from doing that in hers. Of course, any Katara advocate would read this and go "you're missing the point: Katara was sad and upset that she was being LEFT OUT! That's why she was so mad about this!" Then the irony of the matter is that this argument STILL reflects poorly on Katara. She gave her friend a tough time, called her a wild child and a crazy person, went through her personal belongings because "she could tell Toph was hiding something from her", so she fully disregarded Toph's privacy... all because she couldn't say "Wait, you guys went scamming Fire Nation people? Damn, why didn't you wait for me! I would've gone too!", and there you go, problem solved! Katara's not left out anymore!
Yes, of course, that's not how it WORKS, people can struggle to identify what they feel...!
... And now it's my turn to say that that's not the point.
The point is that Katara said and did hurtful things to her friend. Things she eventually regrets, yes, but that she didn't have to do at all. This is the same person who fed Appa a bunch of food that made it look like he was sick, all be it to keep the group from leaving the Jang Hui river village so she could go out of her way to heal the injured and sick without telling anyone what she was doing. That, too, was a choice she made with no concern regarding how the rest of her team might feel about it: was she doing something nice? Sure! But it's not fundamentally different from Toph doing whatever she wants with zero regard as to Katara's feelings on the matter. Katara KNEW she was stalling their journey and that Sokka wanted them to move on: she didn't care about his feelings or priorities, and the story eventually frames Katara as being in the right for feeling that way. Here, she's in the inverse scenario, only it's with Toph rather than Sokka, and instead of realizing that she, too, has made choices that were irresponsible/dangerous/risky and STILL went all out with them, down to fighting whoever opposed her choices? Katara just doubles down until she, again, breaches boundaries and overhears Toph and Sokka's conversation, WHICH IS ANOTHER CAN OF WORMS DUE TO THE SOUTHERN RAIDERS FOLLOW-UP...
The thing is, Katara as a mom friend is not even a good thing. It's not conducive to fun or interesting storytelling, not in Book 2, not now. It doesn't make Katara a more interesting and dynamic character. The way she's portrayed isn't so she looks tragic for taking this role, it's all about forcing these kids into tropes that don't necessarily add up to who they have been so far. Katara's mom friend status is NOT treated with any compassion. It's not handled as a sore, difficult subject outside of the ONE conversation Sokka has with Toph that Katara overhears. And it's not centered on Katara's tragedy, on how she overcompensates for her mother's absence, it's centered on Sokka accepting her as a motherly person and encouraging Toph to do the same thing. The people who saw further depth in it probably haven't looked at the script itself in a long time: you CAN see more to it, but that's not the point of the scene. That's not where it's going. And the fact that such a tragic situation is what conduces Katara to take up the mom friend role actively makes it look like... she shouldn't have it. Why would she be the mom friend if she's just overcompensating for Kya's death? If she's taking up responsibility by thinking that no one else will (a blatant lie because, again, in Book 1 there's NO SIGN of this behavior and it's Sokka who's in a role of responsibility compared to her), it suggests that EVERYONE ELSE ought to step up and stop "relying" (and Sokka very much uses that word) on Katara being the mom friend. It's not a healthy thing. It's a coping mechanism that seems to be actively damaging Katara: and the story doesn't acknowledge it that way.
So... "mom friend Katara", dialed up to a thousand in Book 3, absolutely has a connection with why her character loses its sheen by this point in the story. There's no attempt to deconstruct this coping mechanism by Katara. No indication from the rest of the team that maybe Katara should get to be a kid just like them and stop being so uptight (even though VERY often she's not that uptight but the show very much tries to pretend she is). It's Katara's initiative to do a scam, it's not Toph or Sokka or Aang who think she needs to join in on the fun, she basically inserts herself in it. So basically, those three take the route of saying "that's what she's like, we just gotta bear with it", instead of actually helping her. If we'd seen that? Mom friend Katara would actually be a fun element to witness deconstructed by the story. And I'm not blaming either Katara or the other three for this:
This is EMINENTLY a writing problem.
Mom friend Katara is not a good trope. It could be if the point was to help her break free from it. It's not. It's simply weak writing that can't handle two girls with proactive, aggressive personalities and a ton of agency, a lack of creativity in realizing how much potential there could be in making Toph and Katara the absolute best of friends. It's seriously a disservice to the two of them that this trope literally blooms over Toph joining the show and then NEVER gets resolved or chased away. And when you have characters like Sokka or Aang kind of joining the bandwagon of "yeah, Katara's a mom!" when the two of them traveled with her in Book 1 and she WASN'T that at all? It makes matters infinitely worse.
So, if you ask me? This is the first thing that makes Katara feel more unpleasant than ever before in Book 3.
The second thing is even worse.
We return to accountability, as well as to illogical flow of thought when it comes to the writing of Katara: in Book 1, we see a hopeful girl who never speaks ill of her father or betrays any manner of displeasure or distrust towards him. No sign of her being conflicted by what Hakoda is doing: the focus is entirely on Sokka's feelings on the matter once it finally comes up in Bato of the Water Tribe, and Katara is a secondary matter, if even that.
This would be fine if Hakoda hadn't come up at all as a subject throughout Books 1 and 2. If Katara had never had the potential opportunity to see her father in any of these instances and had backed out from them for bigger reasons than... plot reasons.
For reference: she's excited, just as Sokka is, when Bato says he can bring the kids to meet their dad again. They're HYPED. We see no sign of Katara being upset at Hakoda for leaving at this point. The only portrayed reason why she and Sokka decide not to go see Hakoda is because they think Aang needs them more and they decide to forgive him for hiding the map. Katara, from the get-go, is not as angry at Aang for hiding the map as Sokka is. Clearly, Sokka wants to see Hakoda far more intensely than Katara does: even so, there's no sign anywhere here that implies that Katara harbors resentment or dissatisfaction towards Hakoda.
Book 2 gives us a similar situation: Katara declines going to see Hakoda and offers to be the one who stays in Ba Sing Se so Sokka can go see Hakoda himself. Sokka is soooo thrilled and thanks her and calls her the best sister ever and Katara very much says she is, indeed, the best. Which she's allowed to, worth noting, I'm not saying her reaction to Sokka's praises was bad, it's actually funny: but what I AM saying is that she knows how much this matters to Sokka and that's why she makes the offer she does. It's also VERY convenient! Because logic dictates that, if Sokka stays behind, he realizes the Kyoshi Warriors aren't themselves far faster than Katara does (even though, to be fair, Katara didn't really have much time to realize it at all), and we wouldn't have Aang suffering over Katara's imprisonment because the one in chains would be Sokka and then Aang might just go "oh okay it's just Sokka, I can go cosmic if it's not Katara"
... yeah I'm being sarcastic I actually don't think Aang wouldn't have saved Sokka, but they very clearly had Katara stay behind first and foremost for this specific purpose...
But Katara's acknowledgement that this is a good thing for her brother makes you REALLY wonder how much of a secret grudge she was supposed to feel towards her father at this stage of the story. The truth, in my opinion? She wasn't actually supposed to resent Hakoda as she did, let alone quite so harshly.
My sister personally told me that she thought Katara's anger at Hakoda was a fine storytelling choice when I told her I didn't like it. She told me Katara herself most likely didn't realize how hurt she had been by her father's leaving, that it wasn't until she was around Hakoda again that she understood she resented him at all, and that she had a lot more pent-up rage and frustrations than she had EVER acknowledged, and they burst out frequently in Book 3. Which, you know, is one possible explanation that tries to make this whole thing more palatable. From a human standpoint? This is valid.
... From a writing point? Not so much.
A Katara who struggles to understand her heart (which... is odd, tbh. As far as they portray her, Katara tends to know exactly what she's feeling, why she's feeling it, and she acts on her emotions rather than brains more often than not) would be portrayed as confused over her own rage at Hakoda. She would not have been written as a snappy teenager who hates her dad. She would have snapped at him and then apologized by reflex, unsure of what's come over her. We would see Sokka trying to mediate between them too, probably asking Katara what's her deal, and she would have no idea how to explain it. Katara would be avoiding Hakoda, knowing she loves him, not knowing why she seems to hate him now, afraid of saying things she shouldn't. Every time she snaps at him, she should worry about what she did, she should fear for Hakoda's feelings, she should reflect on what's going on inside her heart...!
... But that doesn't happen. And that knocks SO HARD on the concept of empath/compassionate Katara that it basically turns her into a whole different person.
As I've said countless times so far: it's not about Katara being perfect. I don't WANT her to be perfect. But I DO want the show to acknowledge that she's not. I want the flaws to REALLY read as flaws. I want other characters to react to those mishaps on Katara's part, and I want HER to reflect on what she's doing and realize she's messing up, just as she does when she hurts Aang's feelings in the Waterbending Scroll, which is most likely the best situation where Katara actually owns up to the exact mistake she made and feels genuine, palpable, obvious remorse for it. But when you feature Katara lashing out at Hakoda, and everyone just staying quiet because "uuuuh, awkwaaaard...", it feels off. Aang asks Katara, outright, what's her problem with her dad! And Katara goes "What? What problem?" She's acting like she's not even aware of the fact that her behavior is out of place, basically gaslighting Aang into pretending that she didn't do anything rude or mean to Hakoda. Aang literally saw it with his own eyes and is the ONLY person to bring it up.
To make matters worse? Katara has been with Hakoda for WEEKS. It's not like they just crossed paths two seconds before Aang opened his eyes. The implication is that she's been behaving like this, or her behavior has been deteriorating towards Hakoda with no one worrying about it or trying to make her reason with it. for that long. Sokka didn't do anything. Hakoda just took the teenage rants and left her alone because that's what she wants. And when the one person brings up that she's not acting like herself? Katara pretends nothing's wrong and acts like everything's fine and she's not acting any differently from herself. Whether she actually is just lying to Aang or ALSO lying to herself is a matter of debate... but what it suggests is she's unwilling to confront the gravity of her choices and how she can be hurting her father with them.
This is NOT to say that Katara has no right to be angry about Hakoda abandoning her in the Tribe. She has every right to be upset and feel forsaken. Their mother died, and Hakoda left with all the men of the tribe, and Sokka was left behind, tasked to protect everyone, and Katara apparently felt responsible for the whole village too: as valid as Hakoda's quest to fight in the war might be, it's not out of this world for Katara to harbor frustrations and resentment over what happened.
What IS out of this world, and particularly, not appropriate to her character, is that her way to convey those feelings was something she gave herself to, completely, only to reason with it once Aang was missing so that the episode would conflagrate her problems with Aang and Hakoda into the same thing.
This is basically a dark expansion of what we've seen in Katara's treatment of Sokka since Book 1: where it was typically "humorous" when she was a jerk to him and paid no price for it, this time it's not humorous. This time, you're supposed to see her being a jerk and then go "aaaaw, poor dear," even if you're not supposed to get mad at Hakoda because he is very much a decent dad. The show was trying to have its cake and eat it too with this situation, because Katara DOESN'T apologize to Hakoda for being unfair to him: HAKODA APOLOGIZES TO HER. Hakoda acknowledges the pain he caused Katara and the damage his leaving has wrought upon his children by apologizing and explaining how much he missed them... but Katara does not acknowledge the pain she inflicted on her father by acting out when he wasn't doing anything wrong. Is this teenager behavior? You could chalk it down to that, but that's precisely why teenagers can be a pain in the ass! And that's very much how Katara is being portrayed if she's unwilling to acknowledge she acted out and hurt someone she loves!
Her problems and resentment towards Hakoda magically go away after that single conversation. After this? She loves him. No hard feelings left. If her problems with Hakoda were this deep and difficult to navigate and work through, either she bottled them up in the rest of the show and stopped them from affecting her father... or she just got over it that quickly. Which would be very unrealistic because Hakoda apologizing for leaving doesn't change the damage Katara suffered through because he was gone. A single apology doesn't fix everything that people read into Katara's deep anguish in this scene and episode. And yet that's very much how the show portrays it: Katara is 100% fine in every single other interaction with Hakoda she gets past the first episode of Book 3. Does that make sense? Is that good writing? No, actually: it's literally digging up a problem, making it up last minute with zero lead-up to it, where the ONLY way to read "lead-up" is to pretend that Katara always had ulterior motives to avoid going to see Hakoda, even though we NEVER were shown that she was hiding anything, something that could be VERY easily shown in the story if they'd always had this in mind. The truth is that they didn't. They made it up for this episode, forced it in there, didn't even write it right because nobody reacts to Katara's behavior reasonably except Aang, and she gets away with it without even having to apologize. That's... not good form for any character, let alone Miss Responsibility and Empathy, is it?
This is why it's such a problem that Katara acted as she did towards her father. It's not because this is an unthinkable flaw: it's because there's very much no lead-up to it, kind of like there's none with Korrasami's big reveal in LOK's finale. It's because there's no follow-up to it either. It's because we don't see Katara living up to her supposed core character traits, where she should have a realization that her choices and actions and behavior have hurt someone else, someone she cares about. None of that happens.
And I will say: it's different when it comes to her clashes with Zuko and her reactions to him in the second half of Book 3. This is basically the MAIN thing the fandom gives her grief for and I hate them for it: she has every right and reason and justification to show no empathy or compassion towards a person who, as far as she could tell, took advantage of her compassion in Ba Sing Se, of Aang's compassion frequently across Book 1, and paid them back for all of it by joining forces with Azula and showing no concern to help Aang when Azula almost killed him. I am no fan of Iroh's... but Iroh jumped in to help Katara and Aang escape, at risk of being captured. Zuko stood beside Azula and did NOTHING to help those two leave. He showed zero concern for Aang's survival. He saw his sister potentially murder someone and had ZERO REACTION. So, no offense but full offense: Katara's unwillingness to trust Zuko is JUSTIFIED. Not only is it justified? It's CORRECT. It's the only writing choice that makes sense. Sokka getting over it relatively quickly feels off to me, no matter if the Boiling Rock adventure isn't as bad as others might be. Aang not holding a grudge for too long kind of fits because it is Aang... but Katara being that mad at Zuko? That's 100% fine. It fits. It works. And anyone pretending that what I said about Hakoda applies to how she treated Zuko is just completely biased in Zuko's favor.
Katara and Zuko do not have a secret magical powerful soulmates bond in canon. Their one instance of bonding comes after multiple instances of the exact opposite thing. Katara and Sokka were 100% down for leaving Zuko to freeze to death in the North Pole, and the ONLY reason why Zuko survives is because Aang can't let that happen to him. It's AANG'S compassion that saved Zuko. Katara felt none, AND SHE DIDN'T HAVE TO FEEL ANY. Let's not forget that!
Moving on to Book 2, Katara actually makes her first offer of kindness to Zuko and Iroh in the Chase when she offers to heal Iroh after Azula's attack. Zuko's reaction is to lash out violently and yell at her to leave: who, exactly, would feel inclined to think this poor beautiful sad boy just needs love when you OFFER HIM kindness and his reaction is, in a manner of speaking "go fuck yourself I'll handle this on my own"? And it's worth bringing it up because it feels like the fandom is hilariously misled into thinking the Gaang magically knows what Zuko is up to and how he's growing and evolving, as if they were part of the audience: they're not. The last time Katara saw Zuko before Ba Sing Se is literally when Zuko refuses her help. We're also talking about Fire Nation people: Katara has every right and every reason to believe that Zuko is refusing her help, not out of personal, internal strife he's dealing with and has no idea how to handle... she very much can read this as "inferior Water Tribe peasant, you will not heal my uncle with your wretched waterbending!" Because... let's be real, that's what Zuko looked like to Katara across Book 1. She has no real reason to think he's any better or different from that until their catacombs scene...
... And he stabs her in the back and joins Azula there. Right after "bonding" with her.
So let's be VERY clear on that respect: Katara has no real reason to forgive Zuko. She has no real reason to feel empathy outside of the show constantly trying to push that she's kind and compassionate with no boundaries, even if she forsakes that kindness and compassion at random whenever the plot requires it. But her death threats to Zuko? They're completely fine by me. I'd be pissed if she had acted any differently, and if anything I hate how easy Zuko had it to befriend everyone but Katara.
... Not to say I'm happy with how he befriended Katara either, but anyway...
As this isn't Zuko meta, we're not going to get into the true core glaring issues in The Southern Raiders, because ultimately, that episode paints Zuko in a disgusting light that his fans are constantly gaslighting themselves about. He was not beinga heroic good dude helping someone he connected profoundly with. His behavior leaves so much to be desired and proves he hasn't unlearned a lot of toxic things he had internalized. He didn't unlearn them in this episode, either. But the GREATEST sin Zuko commits in this episode, without a doubt, is bringing Katara on a journey that ultimately did NOTHING for her. The only person benefitting from it was Zuko himself. I've seen people pretend that Katara finally found closure: she did not do such thing. She learned what kind of scum killed her mother, but she did not forgive him nor did she kill him. Closure would mean peace. Katara did not find peace with the situation. She's shown troubled, sitting at that pier, miserable, when Aang talks with her, she's STILL angry. That's not closure. It never was.
What it was, however, was the journey where Katara thanked Zuko and forgave him because..! Uh... because...
... Why, exactly, did Katara forgive Zuko here?
He brought her to her mother's killer: she found no closure from it. In fact, she learned the VERY disturbing truth that she hadn't realized so far: HER MOTHER DIED SPECIFICALLY TO SAVE HER. Her mother sacrificed herself for Katara's sake. She CANNOT find peace with this reality in a single afternoon because holy shit, who would? Katara KNEW her mother had died. It's not until Yon Rha tells her what happened that she understands what happened in the igloo. Katara herself, her waterbending skills, and the target she painted on her own back because of something 100% out of her control, something that is NOT evil and that the Fire Nation was hellbent on destroying, are the reasons why Kya was murdered. This is DISTURBING SHIT to deal with. And the show completely sidelines this revelation and the dark impact it could have on Katara, which, seriously, is HUGE, way worse than what happened with Hakoda, because it very much could have triggered a profound self-hatred by Katara towards her own skills because how tf could her bending cause her mother's death?! Not to mention the obvious: who was that source? Who told the Southern Raiders that there was a waterbender? Who the hell is responsible, beyond the Fire Nation, for her mother's death?
There's A LOT to unpack here.
And none of it matters because Katara is just supposed to forgive Zuko for exacerbating and worsening her trauma regarding her mother's death :') funny how that works.
This IS the point where Katara should make a display of darker sides of herself that she didn't know or understand. THIS is where Katara turning dark like Aang did after Appa vanished would make PERFECT sense. With this revelation about Kya that's beyond disturbing: not with Hakoda... and certainly not with Sokka.
The cusp of Katara's worst is, by far, her behavior with her brother in the Southern Raiders. I know a million excuses have been made for this moment: my problem is NOT the fact that she lashed out at him as she did and said something DEEPLY hurtful. It's the fact that KNOWING, SEEING HE'S IN PAIN...
... does not matter to her one bit.
Instead of a trite scene with Zuko spouting shit he does NOT mean (aka "violence wasn't the answer... but lol go kill my father okay??"), we deserved a scene with Katara and Sokka talking this out. People pretend it's fine as it is: it's not. Katara has spent the ENTIRE show disregarding her brother's feelings in a myriad of ways: this time, it was way more painful and way more hurtful and SHE KNOWS IT. It's not funny. She's not amused. She's not being a shithead little sister. She's ANGRY. She's UPSET. She has every right to be! What she DOESN'T have a right to do is hurt her brother DELIBERATELY and then escape every consequence from doing that.
There's very much no way to spin that moment into making Katara a decent sister. There's no way she remains true to her core values of being empathetic, kind and wholesome when she will insidiously, vindictively hurt her brother this way. And what I said earlier about her overhearing Toph and Sokka in the Runaway? It actually gets a follow-up in this scene: Katara telling Sokka that he didn't love Kya as she did is basically her WEAPONIZING the information that was NOT meant for her as her alleged evidence that Sokka didn't care about Kya as much as she did. As if his inability to retrieve Kya's memory was NOT a manifestation of trauma, as if it were something he's FINE with! He's not! How guilty must he feel for that? Does that matter to Katara at all? Why... nope. Because all that matters at that point is her own rage, her own feelings, her own fury. Which is, then, entirely against the character we've been told she is.
The lack of apology or follow-up to this horrible moment will never stop being one of the absolute biggest misfires in one of the WORST written episodes of this show. Yes, I said it. The more I ponder The Southern Raiders, the more I realize it's an immensely flawed speedrun to establish a friendship that simply doesn't add up. Katara and Zuko becoming friends after this journey requires some wild, absurd leaps of imagination that, boiled down to basics, don't make any sense. There's no reason for Katara to decide she'll forgive Zuko after she regains enough clarity. Why does she forgive him? Because he proved he'd rather make her happy than defend his nation anymore? Ironically, at no point does Katara show any appreciation of the fact that Zuko is setting aside his firebending supremacist attitude completely for her sake. So maybe that's not it.
Ah... is it because of how he, and he alone, was ready to help her go on this journey of revenge...?! Why, ironically, the only reason why ONLY Zuko goes on this journey is incredibly artificial and fake: this IS intended as Katara's "field trip" with Zuko. None of the field trips make sense, from a logical standpoint, as duo journeys. I've mentioned it to a few people: Sokka and Zuko could have brought Toph with them to the Boiling Rock, a metal location where her abilities would be VERY useful, used her as a false prisoner and turned her in as a captured ally of the Avatar's, who 100% will bait him into coming here to rescue her so that the Fire Nation can get him next! A cover as strong as that one might actually get them further along on that rescue attempt than what they did in canon. But this CANNOT BE... because it was Sokka's field trip with Zuko so nobody else is invited, even if they're very much not doing anything else (as is the case with Toph). Aang? Why didn't everyone join the firebending discovery with Zuko and Aang? They weren't doing ANYTHING in the Western Air Temple at the time. They very much could have gone with them too. But they don't. And that's exactly why Katara's trip works exactly as it does: it's the solo journey with Katara and Zuko, and the ONLY way to make it work is to show Sokka and Aang completely opposed to the concept of finding Yon Rha. I'm not saying I think Sokka and Aang would have been on board if they're allowed to remain IC... but they could have wanted to go on this trip with Katara regardless of not agreeing with what she wanted to do. Hell, as is OBVIOUS: Kya is Sokka's mom too. His opinions, his feelings on this subject, should matter just as much as Katara's do, and fuck anyone who pretends otherwise. These two are NOT supposed to be the well-known unhealthy siblings Zuko and Azula, who each got one parent in their corner and therefore the other parent treated them like they were worthless or a monster. Hakoda and Kya were parents to BOTH their children, and any narrative or interpretation that attempts to say that ONLY Katara's opinion on Kya matters is immediately ruled out, for me, as absolute bullshit spouted by someone not worth listening to. Point blank.
Also, the fact that Zuko USES Sokka to gain this information about the southern raiders, and then doesn't even extend the chance to Sokka to join them? When Sokka is basically his new best buddy? That... does not make sense. It basically portrays Zuko as a disloyal asshole who takes advantage of his friends for his purposes and tosses them aside, disregarding their feelings whenever it suits him.
So Sokka's treatment at the hands of this episode is just deplorable. Both Zuko and Katara are HORRIBLE to him... but Katara is our focus here, she's actively hurts Sokka and then proceeds to not care. Because that's how she has operated so far, and that's how she always will.
Hence: we have a long, long tradition of Katara not treating Sokka fairly all across the show. The reasons why it's not a fair or balanced relationship at all is because Sokka typically pays the price for being a dick to Katara: either she inflicts the punishment herself, such as when he's disrespectful in the Drill and she smacks him with the slurry, or the narrative inflicts some magical punishment instead that CONSTANTLY proves that Sokka is not allowed to be a dick without facing consequences for it. Does he ALWAYS learn the lesson? Sure he doesn't! But the consequences for it NEVER stop. He doesn't get away with being a jerk to his sister. That's forbidden. But Katara? She's allowed to get away with it every single time! And the reason why it gets worse and worse is because we went from relatively silly/comedic things, in which Katara did not apologize because "it's funny that she didn't apologize", to NOT funny things at all, such as this scene in Southern Raiders. Even just a troubled glance at Sokka, or a slight hesitation after seeing how hurt he is, would be enough for me: there's NOTHING. She doubles down and keeps charging ahead. Zero thoughts or concerns given to her brother.
If this isn't why you have issues with Katara, well, I don't know why it might be the case in your case x'D But I absolutely attest that the combination of "mom friend", "selective compassion particularly when it comes to her brother" and "absolute imperviousness to consequences for her mistakes" are the things that fully caused my initial appreciation of her character to shift into ambivalence and then into full blown dislike once I reached Book 3.
Worth noting: THIS IS A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE SHOW'S WRITING. Boiled down to basics, written by any more competent hands, I don't think Katara would have acted the way she did often, ESPECIALLY in episodes like The Awakening or The Southern Raiders. I categorically refuse to write Katara in my stories as someone who gets free passes for EVERYTHING she does. I also refuse to portray her as the mom friend, particularly in Gladiator. There's a lot of depth you can give this character! So much you can do, so much worth exploring... and canon just settled for stunting her and then only bringing her out to play in ways that make her unpleasant, not particularly bright and extremely resistant to character development even after allegedly learning lessons (see how her initial behavior around Hama, who shows red flags often, isn't all that different from how it was with Jet? There's only a handful of moments where it looks like Katara MIGHT be wary, and yet they're quickly overcome by her excitement, which Hama manipulates in her favor until she does the bloodbending reveal). So I'm NOT saying Katara had no potential... but I am saying the show itself failed her, big time, because of how she was written. A quick glance through the transcript of the Puppetmaster to confirm my memories that Katara shows no sign of concern over Hama when Sokka finds her suspicious reveals that, after Hama shows them her comb and that she's from the Southern Water Tribe, Sokka, and Sokka alone, apologizes for suspecting her of being sketchy. Nothing from Aang, even though he was part of it too. Nothing from Toph, either. And certainly nothing from Katara. Only Sokka apologizes. As usual.
So... what does this tell you? What does this tell any of us? That Katara's development is... erratic, at best. That it's not linear isn't a bad thing, but that it contradicts itself non-stop, that her core traits come and go willy-nilly as the plot demands it, that her motivations to do things (like forgiving Zuko) don't add up to her experiences or to any lead-up we've witnessed, is most certainly not good.
If I were to rewrite ATLA, the main characters I'd want to rewrite into making a lot more sense than they do, and making their arcs actually logical, are Zuko and Katara. I'd definitely add a few rewrites for Iroh, particularly to make him WAY more accountable for shit than he ever was, and to show he's not universally loved and shouldn't be, since people would have very reasonable grievances with him. I'd also rewrite a handful of things with Aang, too. Toph, full-stop, deserves a growth arc of her own beyond getting stronger and getting used to having friends. Girl has the range. They just never let her explore it. And of course, I'd change a fair few elements of Azula's writing as well. But I feel like no characters would warrant a deeper intervention than Zuko and Katara, precisely because they constantly fail to live up to all the stuff people keep pretending they're flawless exhibits of.
And this is one more issue we've got going on with Katara:
The fandom ABSOLUTELY has been unfair to Katara. A lot of people hate her for no reason. A lot of people who potentially have unexamined racism making their hearts' choices for them and they despise her just because she dared not have fully-white skin. A lot of people pick completely ridiculous things to get angry at her, such as people who HATE HER because she's "rude to Zuko". Just, fuck off. That's about the stupidest reason to hate this character and stupid reasons for that have been heard plenty.
But Katara's fans have become... reactionary. They appear think that any criticism to her character NEEDS to be fought off with "she was right tho" or "she has every reason to act this way" or "she's HUMAN she's allowed to make mistakes you heathen!! That's what a flawed character is like!"
Here's the kicker, though: if you have justifications and excuses for every little unpleasant thing Katara EVER does? You're basically taking a dump on her character yourself and saying she IS flawless.
Flaws in characters are bad things that cannot be justified. They can be funny! They can be annoying. They can be infuriating. But they're things that inconvenience other characters, that hurt them, that show they're not above or beyond doing harmful things! All of what I listed in this crazy long post are Katara's flaws. The reason why I don't like the way these flaws were handled are all the things I already have talked about: no accountability for flaws is basically saying that these flaws don't matter. No follow-up, no lead-up, means Katara is allowed to be as much of an ass as she wants to be and nobody cares: THIS IS NOT FAIR. This is not how ANY character should be written. This is the core reason why I've spent years feuding with Zuko and Iroh: they get away with shit they should NOT get away with, EVER. They're not held accountable for so much they should be. This happens to Katara too. particularly in her dynamcis with her brother. And when people see those flaws and just start listing reasons why it's actually okay? All you're doing is dehumanizing these characters to pretend everything they EVER do is fine.
Also worth noting... character flaws are the way characters grow. If a character is DEEPLY flawed, you know what kind of work you have cut out for you as a writer. If you're writing a story heavily steeped on character development? Then those flaws are VITAL to the work you have to do in order to develop these characters!
But when Zuko is unnecessarily violent and you're told "it's because his culture and family are!", you rightfully assume that as he drifts away from Fire Nation ideology, Zuko WILL grow less violent. Then, you watch how he picks an unnecessary fight with Aang in the finale because everyone's being lazy, an EXTREMELY violent fight at that, and you contrast his earlier behavior with it and... where's the difference, exactly? How did he grow or learn better if violence is STILL his immediate reaction to anything he doesn't like?
Thus, when Katara's flaws get overlooked, ignored, disregarded? What kind of development does Katara get, if none of her flaws are addressed in a way that makes it look like she's genuinely learned any lessons? At least, none of the worst, biggest, glaring flaws were addressed. None of the things that she SHOULD be troubled by and that she shouldn't be happy with herself over, especially after seeing how she hurts people with her actions. This isn't cool. This isn't a fun way to write a character. And it's so glaringly unpleasant when you can so very easily contrast this with the well-known terrible flaw Sokka displays early on: sexism! And then he gets his ass kicked by Suki and he learns to respect the Kyoshi Warriors... and we never see him displaying that particular flaw again. THAT is what growth looks like! What can we point to with Katara that remotely compares to this? That she accepted Zuko? Yeah, no, that sincerely could not count any less. Her personal arc CANNOT be about Zuko. That she got over her mom's death? She didn't. So that's not it either. That she helped Aang save the world? So her personal arc was about Aang and not herself? Was her whole role in the story to play Aang's cheerleader, then? Because if that's it... she was doing that just fine at it since day one. She's the only person who faithfully believed the Avatar would return well before Aang turned up in her life, if the first episode's introduction is to be believed.
So... what, exactly, was Katara's arc? If it's just her waterbending skills, then she's as stunted as Toph, unexplored and underdeveloped and left to just strengthen her fighting skills while Aang and Zuko and Sokka are getting full character arcs, even if very lowkey but very much effective in Sokka's case, where they develop and grow (or they should) into the men they're supposed to be to end the war! Why don't Katara and Toph get similar arcs? Why aren't they challenged on a level that actually provides them with lasting, solid, provable growth, where you can look at them where they started out and see how they ended up and conclude their journey was beautiful?
I insist... writing. Weak writing. Failures to understand/develop characters properly. And of course, lack of accountability in storytelling. I wrote that one focusing mostly on Zuko... but it's very much applicable to every character who fails to own up to the things they should and deserve to face consequences for.
Anyway... this is what I'd say about Katara atm. I'm not 100% sure this is everything because I might have overlooked some stuff that also made Katara's character kind of backfire (while I'm no Kataang hater, I 100% agree that the ship should have been written better too, and after writing them whenever I have, it's honestly kind of ridiculous how such an easy ship could get fucked over so badly by weird writing choices...). Whether you agree with these assessments or not, ultimately, there are valid reasons to feel offput by Katara and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Most of all when you DID appreciate and cherish the character once before, but her fans just jump to the conclusion that you must be a mindless hater to think she's anything but flawless (this, while claiming they love that she's flawed, then they proceed to reveal they have no idea what a flaw is...).
(final note: SORRY IT TOOK ME FOREVER TO ANSWER! Super lengthy answer to make up for it, I hope :((( sorry)
