Is there traditional dresses that is able to use Ukrainian colors?
Thank you for the question about my hyperfixation 🗣️
When we're talking about "traditional" Ukrainian clothing, the colours used for the fabric of dresses and vyshyvankas were white, gray and black:
White linen was widely used because it was the easiest and most practical material to produce, this fabric was the most thin.
Gray linen was typically made from undyed, untreated linen or hemp. Creating this fabric involved minimal processing, but it had a natural, earthy quality (it was the most expensive because of the meticulous selection of raw materials and specific weaving techniques, plus it was very durable)
Black linen was rarer and often used for solemn or formal occasions (commemorations and memorial days, funerals and mourning), but today a black vyshyvanka can be a stylistic choice and people won't be asking you who died if you wear it
Ukrainians never used the blue and yellow combination for traditional attire.
Personally, when I see that combo, I think about IKEA
Dresses and vyshyvankas like that exist (mass produced vyshyvankas use all colours possible, as well as custom designs made by modern seamstresses), it's just that they aren't traditional, they're something that was created as a modern interpretation
Instead, vyshyvankas reflected the natural dyes available in each region, with reds, blacks, whites, and earthy tones dominating the embroidery or weaved fabric patterns
If you're an artist and you want to draw something with the blue and yellow combo, I'd recommend going for a vyshyvanka shirt and pairing it with some modern clothes in the outfit, though it's a popular opinion among Ukrainians for the flag colours combo to be a kitsch element (most people see it as tasteless and some may consider it "sharovarshchyna" aka a misleading/harmful depiction), it's just that they are complimentary colours that clash unevenly on a white or black background, same as when one of the colours is a background shade and the other is used for the embroidery
But this is all personal taste and a modern vyshyvanka shirt or an embroidered ethnic-inspired dress can be any colour you like: pink, black, brown, green, you name it, it's just that it wouldn't be "traditional". Have fun 👌

Regina george x masc reader
Regina George was the queen bee of North Shore High School. With her long blonde hair, perfect figure, and designer wardrobe, she was the epitome of popularity. She ruled the school with an iron fist, and no one dared to cross her. However, there was one person who dared to challenge her, and that was the new girl in town, Y/N.
Y/N was unlike any other girl at North Shore High. She had short hair, wore masculine clothes, and was not afraid to speak her mind. Her confidence and individuality caught Regina's attention from the first day she set foot in the school. But what really intrigued Regina was Y/N's complete disregard for her social status.
As Regina and her clique, the Plastics, watched Y/N from afar, they couldn't help but be curious about her. They had never seen anyone like her before. It was almost as if she didn't care about fitting into their high school hierarchy. And that's what made Regina want her even more.
One day, Regina decided to approach Y/N in the cafeteria during lunch. As she strutted over to her, all eyes were on the queen bee and the new girl. Y/N looked up and met Regina's gaze, not backing down or showing any signs of intimidation.
'Hey cutie, can I borrow your salt?' Regina asked, flashing her signature smile.
Y/N raised an eyebrow, unamused by Regina's flirting. 'Sure,' she replied, sliding the salt shaker over to her.
Regina smirked, taking note of Y/N's lack of interest in her charm. She sat down next to her and struck up a conversation, inundating her with compliments and trying to win her over. But Y/N remained unbothered, talking to Regina as if she was just another person.
After that lunch encounter, Regina found herself thinking about Y/N constantly. She had never met anyone who was so unimpressed by her status and beauty. It was a challenge that piqued her interest, and she was determined to make Y/N hers.
As the days went by, Regina continued to pursue Y/N, trying to get her to join the Plastics. She even set up a makeover session for her with her stylist and bought her designer clothes. But despite Regina's efforts, Y/N refused to conform to their standards of beauty and popularity.
Slowly but surely, Regina began to see the world through Y/N's eyes. She started to question why she felt the need to control and manipulate those around her. She had never truly been herself, always trying to fit into the mold of what society deemed as perfect. But Y/N didn't care about any of that, and it was refreshing to Regina.
One day, Regina invited Y/N to a party at her house. Y/N accepted, curious to see how the queen bee lived. As the night went on, Y/N found herself having a good time, despite the superficiality and drama of the party. But what really surprised her was when Regina pulled her aside and confessed her feelings for her.
'I know I can be a mean girl, but when I'm around you, I want to be better. You make me want to be a better person,' Regina said, looking into Y/N's eyes.
Y/N was taken aback by Regina's vulnerability, and for the first time, she saw the real person behind the queen bee facade. She couldn't deny her feelings for Regina either, and they shared a passionate kiss.
From that moment on, Regina and Y/N were inseparable. The Plastics were shocked when Regina announced that she was stepping down as queen bee and that Y/N would be taking her place. They couldn't understand why Regina would give up her power and popularity for someone like Y/N.
But Regina didn't care. She had found true happiness with Y/N. She no longer felt the need to be anyone else other than herself. And with Y/N by her side, she no longer craved the attention and validation of others.
As for Y/N, she had found love in the most unexpected place. She never thought she would fall for someone like Regina, but their love was undeniable. They were two individuals who had broken free from the confines of high school stereotypes and found solace in each other.
The once mighty queen bee and the rebellious new girl had defied all odds and created their own path. They didn't fit into any high school clique, but they found a home in each other's arms.
Years later, when they both looked back at their high school experience, they realized that it wasn't the popularity or the social hierarchy that mattered. It was the people who truly saw them for who they were and accepted them without judgement. And for Regina and Y/N, that person was each other.

Ted Talk number 2 already. This one is about Evan and Natalie discourse again.
I’ve been seeing a LOT of smack about Evan at NYC fashion week related to Natalie because she’s a model and works for Karlie Kloss and I’d like to put in some RATIONAL thought about that topic.
Ok, let’s indulge the thought that maybe Natalie is suggesting and trying to convince Evan to change his style and go to fashion shows.
Evan is a GROWN MAN. He can make his own decisions. If Natalie is asking him to do something, he can say no. As far as I can see, he is not obligated to do anything she says, nor stay in the relationship.
Another thing, he cannot just show up. He is paid to be there by the brand. Otherwise he wouldn’t have any reason to attend unless his girlfriend was working there, but he was at the Loewe’s men’s show, obviously Natalie is not the one working at the show—he is. And he accepted to be there. Loewe nor Natalie cannot force him to accept the job or show up. He did that because obviously he wanted to. Crazy concept, I know.
He is working. May Natalie have had some influence or connection? Maybe. But to discredit Evan’s popularity and give her all the credit for him booking a job with Loewe is disrespectful to his integrity, especially as people who claim to be his fans.
He has every right and autonomy to have just been picked out by Loewe with no influence of Natalie whatsoever. And even if she is changing his style, genuinely she’s doing a good job. He looks fresh. It’s really refreshing to see him done up nicely after how shitty he looked in his previous relationships (Emma Snoberts).
I’ve also seen complaints about the outfit he’s wearing in the photoshoot, but he’s a model for the show and was obviously done-up by an artist/ designer. Natalie did not pick the outfit he’s wearing. So if you don’t like it, blame his stylist or Evan himself, because Natalie doesn’t change his clothes for him like he’s a toddler.
Yes, I loved his lazy hobo style just like anyone else. But to see him looking clean in his daily getup is so nice.
Why does everything Evan does now have to be related to Natalie? Can he not just change and mature as a person, and also make his own decisions? I can assure you, she’s not holding him at gunpoint to do something. Just because you don’t like his decisions and the changes he’s making doesn’t mean Natalie is abusive like Emma. If anything, I think it’s the healthiest relationship he’s been in for a while now and it’s obvious. Which is clearly why so many of you are jealous and are nitpicking anything to tear her down.
I’d also want to add some discussion on Natalie and her public politics.
There has been a photo resurfacing of her aparently being a Trump supporter, but the “badges” aren’t really clear enough. If anything they look like generic “I voted” stickers. Which usually have no affiliation to politcal party as far as I know.
Adding the photo and evidence here that people are using to claim she’s a “Trump supporter”:
Ladies and gents, the “Trump” badge:
I actually even looked online for an oval shaped Trump sticker like this and there was nothing. This is literally the sticker she’s wearing that people are using to claim she voted for Trump.
But, again, let’s indulge the thought that maybe she was a Trump supporter. She has every right to flip her political stance.
She is clearly extremely for abortion rights and female autonomy, which was taken away. And as we know, Trump isn’t the best candidate to regain those rights. At least not when he’s on the far right spectrum. That’s my opinion and observation, and it’s clearly Natalie’s too.
You are not obligated to stick to one political party or candidate forever. So maybe in 2016 she voted for Trump, boo fucking hoo. She’s not a hypocrite for changing her mind or her stance like any normal fucking human being.
There is literally nothing perfect Natalie can do for anyone, just like any normal human. And even if she was somehow this conventionally perfect figure head, you guys would some how still find ways to discredit her.
If you want Evan to be in a good relationship with someone (which obviously you believe is you, but with the way you treat him and Natalie he would never.) shitting on every single girlfriend he has because you don’t like the public appearance of their relationship and how it doesn’t suit your standards (or just because it’s not you, which at this rate it will never be) is not going to get anyone anywhere.
Your harassment of Natalie is harassment towards Evan as well, because he chose her. That is his decision. If you shit on Natalie and she finds it, and in any shape or form it affects her—mentally, emotionally, physically—it is going to hurt Evan too because obviously, he cares about her and is a caring person. Whether you like that fact or not, it is at the end of the day—a fact. They are dating, so whatever the other person is feeling will reflect onto the other, and I’m sure Evan wouldn’t want to see Natalie hurt in any sort of way. We know she sees at least some of the hate, and we have no idea how she really reacts to it. But I’m sure it’s not positively or happily.
He’s not a bird locked in a cage to be gawked at. He’s a human being who is doing something at this very moment, living, breathing, talking, having thoughts and feelings. And so is Natalie. And I’m sure both of them have seen your neurotic behavior.
News flash, Evan most likely does not like you if you act that way, and he most definitely doesn’t want you.
So sit down and grow the fuck up. Most of you are grown adults saying this as well. Act like one.
Thanks for listening to another rant again, I’m genuinely so tired of this. No, I am not defending Natalie. But so far, you guys have no real evidence she has done or is doing anything you claim, and it’s not even that bad regardless. Until Natalie does something actually wrong, I will call out this stupid shitty behavior. The real person I’m defending at the end of the day is Evan, because all of it circles back to him, and it is an extremely disrespectful painting of his character that I’m sure no one is hoping for. I’m sure at this rate most of the actual Natalie haters will have stopped reading long before and stormed away fuming out their ears, but regardless, if I can share this info so other people can have an argument back against their bullshit then it’s worth it.

Hey, congrats! For your 650+ follower event, could you do a Modern AU where the Reader is a popular music artist/dancer. But she's like a really down to earth person that if you met her randomly on the street you wouldn't guess that she was famous (she personally hates the fame). Well one day, she starts getting texts from an unknown number and also starts getting letters as well(she basically has a creepy fan stalker). Her agent then decideds to hire Hunter to be readers bodyguard. Then when they start getting close to one another Hunter realizes that the reason he's protecting reader may not be because it's his job...
Maybe you could also have Hunter and Reader show off their tattos?(Reader has a tattoo of vines and flowers that trails down her arm, music notes on her thigh and a big butterfly on her back)
Could it also be fairly long, if you can.
Sorry if it's a big ask, I have a LOT of ideas.
Fields Of Gold
Summary: You’ve been singing and dancing for your whole life, it’s what makes you happy. You never expected, or even wanted, fame or fortune for it. Parental pressure, mixed with getting scouted by an agent, meant you got both despite your desires. And then the stalker comes out of the woodwork, and you start to think, maybe you made a mistake.
Pairing: TBB Hunter x F!Reader
Word Count: 4085
Warnings: Stalking, murder, animal death
Prompt: Modern AU
Tagging: @trixie2023 @n0vqni @imabeautifulbutterfly @clonethirstingisreal
A/N: So, I made the choice to leave this without a definitive ending, because I like the way that it feels. I hope you like it anyway. The reader is a pop star who goes by the stage name Galactic Mint (it's a MAC lipstick color). And the title was the song that I was listening to when I started writing it.
You’ve always loved to dance.
Your mother likes to tell the story of when you were an infant, and how you would wiggle along with the music before you could even walk and talk. She’d tell the story of you learning to dance as a toddler and all you could do was bounce along with the music, rather than proper dancing.
It only made sense, then, that as soon as you were old enough your mother signed you up for baby ballet.
As you grew, and became more coordinated, more styles opened up to you. From tap dancing to hip-hop, from belly dancing to salsa dancing. You learned them all and you loved them all.
You never wanted fame or fortune. You just wanted to dance. To be able to feel the music down to your bones and move along with it.
But when you were 14 and your mother suggested voice lessons to go along with your dance lessons, you couldn’t help but agree. Especially when she said that she wouldn’t pay for any more dance lessons if you didn’t also take singing lessons.
So you did.
And you were good at it.
You were the only one surprised when an Agent reached out to you.
And you were the only one surprised when you were offered a record deal.
At barely 15 years old, you released a hit pop song called Gumball, and you were launched into stardom. You had someone who styled your hair, someone else who did your make-up. You had a stylist who picked out your everyday clothes, and another one who designed your concert outfits. You had private tutors for every subject.
You had an agent, a lawyer, an accountant, a team of bodyguards, a personal trainer, and a personal nutritionist.
You didn’t have any friends, though.
It was a very lonely childhood.
You couldn’t go to the arcade to play video games, you couldn’t go to the mall, you couldn’t go to the movies. All you could do was live in the mansion your parents picked out, the mansion you paid for, and travel in the trailer that your parents also picked out.
And, privately, you hated it.
Hated the concerts, hated the singing, hated having people pawing at your hair and your body. Hated them telling you that you couldn’t have pizza or ice cream because it might ruin your body.
You hated the skin-tight leotards that they dressed you in for concerts. And you hated the caked-on pastel make-up as well as the synthetic wigs you had to wear for public appearances.
You hated the tight clothes your stylist dressed you in, the mini-skirts and short-shorts and heels—
The day you turned 18, you fired all of them.
Your manager, your nutritionist, your stylist, your hairdresser, your make-up artist. All of them.
You had your lawyer kick your family out of your home, had the courts order your family to pay you back for all of the money they took from you since you were a teenager, and then, when they tried to fight back, you completely disowned them and got a restraining order against them.
At the age of 18, you completely reinvented yourself.
Oh, sure, you still made pop music, but you moved away from the pastel preteen look that everyone had been shoving you into and into a more adult style.
And you thrived.
You sang songs of love, of loss, of betrayal. Your concerts, where you used to have to focus on singing, gained more and more energy as suddenly you were able to dance to your music.
Suddenly you were happy, and your fans could tell.
And they loved it.
However, there is a downside to being so famous.
The first letter arrives shortly after your 22nd birthday.
Now, at this point, you’ve been a popstar for seven years, you’re no stranger to letters and gifts from your fans. You’ve even received creepy letters before, letters from adult men who thought that you were singing to them.
But there is something different about this letter. Different enough that you bring it to your manager, who hands it over to your security team.
And then the second letter arrives a week later. And a third one two days after that.
All of them are surrendered to your security team before you even read them.
The fourth letter arrives the very next day, attached to a box. The envelope is empty, but inside the box is a sheep’s head.
You don’t see it, luckily.
Your manager does though, and he puts his foot down. He calls the police, who call in the feds, and after one of the feds points out that this is a clear escalation, and that you’re in danger, your manager starts looking for a personal guard for you.
And then the phone calls start.
Verbal threats against you, against the people who work with you, against the concert venues coming up, against the people who attend the concerts—
You’re sitting in your kitchen, your head buried in your hands as you stare at a list of concert venues that have active threats against them. Active threats against them because of you, when your manager invites himself into your home.
“You’re not thinking of canceling the concert dates, are you?” He asks from the doorway to the kitchen.
“Don’t we have a responsibility to my fans?” You counter without lifting your head, “If I don’t cancel and someone gets hurt, won’t that be on me?”
“What do the feds say?” He asks.
“That I’m not responsible for the actions of other people.” You say, “That they’ve put word out to the venues, and that they’ll have security all over the place if I decide to go through with it.”
“Well, it sounds like they know what they’re doing.”
You sigh and drop your hands to the table, “Why are you here, Miles?”
“I found you a personal bodyguard,” Miles says proudly.
“I have a personal bodyguard,” You counter, “They’re all over the place. I can’t walk five feet without tripping over one of them.”
“You’re right, but they’re stretched thin. So this,” Miles gestures to the side and a man steps into the kitchen, “is Hunter.”
You lean back in your seat and stare at him. He’s tall and broad-shouldered, with shoulder-length brown hair and a skull tattooed over half his face. “Nice to meet you.” You greet politely.
“Ma’am,” He nods once and then steps further into the room, and you watch as he scans the kitchen, “Your manager has hired my team to be your guard.” He says focusing his intense gaze on your face, “Two of my brothers, Tech and Wrecker, are coordinating with the Federal Agents, while my other two brothers, Echo and Crosshair, are working with the guards who already work here. We’re hoping to close any holes that might remain.”
“Well, I appreciate that.” You reply.
Hunter nods once, “May I ask you some questions?”
“If you like.”
Hunter nods and crosses the room to sit across from you, pulling a notebook from the pocket of his jacket as he sits, “How long have you known the men and women of your security team?”
“Since I was 14.”
“Your parents hired them?”
“No. My agent.”
Hunter nods, “According to the profile I have on you, you’ve disowned your parents? Could they have something to do with this?”
“I guess it’s possible, but you’d have to ask the agents about that.”
Hunter makes a note in his notebook, “Any ex-boyfriends or girlfriends I should know about?”
“None.”
“Friends?”
“I’ve been a pop star since I was 14 years old, Hunter. I didn’t go to school or have friends. I just worked.”
“Sounds lonely.”
You just shrug.
“Your Manager gave me a layout of your home. I noticed that all of the glass is both bulletproof and mirrored?”
“That’s right.”
“May I ask why?”
“I got tired of people taking pictures of me making breakfast.”
“People take pictures often?”
“Popstar.”
“You got any names?”
“I don’t, my security might.”
“Alright.” He closes the notebook, “Can I get a tour?”
“Yeah, of course.” You stand and gesture vaguely, “This is the kitchen, there’s a door there,” You point to a hidden door, “Leads to the basement.”
“Anything in there?”
“Not really. Some shelves, my winter clothes, some of my old costumes and wigs, but that’s it.” You pause, “There’s no other entrance into the basement either.”
Hunter nods and makes a note on the map he pulled out of his notebook, “Alright, can I go down there?”
“Yeah.” You open the door to the basement, “I’m not sure what you’re looking for. The Agents already did all of this.”
“Just checking behind them, that’s all.”
You watch as Hunter goes down into the basement, and walks around for a moment, making notes on the map in his hands, before he heads back up.
“This place is single-level, right?”
“That’s right.”
“Can I see the bedroom?”
“Yeah, follow me.” You lead him through the house, pointing out different places, until you push open the bedroom door. “This is my room. The windows are the same as the ones in the kitchen.”
Hunter nods, “Less in here, too.”
“I didn’t feel comfortable sleeping in a room covered in windows.” You explain.
“Smart.” Hunter walks the room and makes some notes on the map, before heading back to you, “So, all things considered, your home—” He stops when there’s the sound of glass splintering.
Your gaze darts to one of your windows, which is now covered in spiderweb-like cracks that indicate that someone tried to break it. Hunter ushers you out of the bedroom, practically tackling you into the hallway, and he presses you against the wall as he fishes his phone out of his pocket and presses it against his ear.
You listen as Hunter rattles off some information and then hangs up the phone.
“We’re going to stay put right here, just until my brothers can make sure that no one else is going to take a pot-shot at us,” Hunter says reassuringly.
“I just don’t understand why anyone would want to hurt me,” You admit as you curl your trembling hands around the hem of your shirt, “I’ve never hurt anyone.”
“You can’t attach logic to someone like this.” Hunter explains, “He’s crazy, that’s all there is to it.” His phone rings and he answers it before the first ring ends, “Yeah?”
Hunter listens to the other man on the phone, and then he sighs.
“Of course he did. Don’t worry about it, keep your eyes open. We’re going to have to move the primary.” He glances at you, “I’ll take care of it.” He hangs up and slides his phone into his jacket pocket.
“What?”
“My brothers and the federal agents found a snipe rifle on the hill.”
“Sniper?” You ask in disbelief.
“Afraid so. Is there anyplace else you can go?”
“No. Nowhere.”
Hunter stares at you for long enough that you shift uncomfortably, “Alright. I think I have an idea.”
“You do?”
“Yeah. But you kind of stand out a little.”
You blink at him and then look down at yourself, “I mean, I can change into other clothes?”
“Do that. Carefully.”
You nod and slip back into the bedroom, and then into your closet. Immediately you slip out of the uncomfortable clothes that your stylist encourages you to wear, and you tug the wig off your head.
You change your clothes into a pair of loose jeans and a teeshirt covered in cats. Then you pull the pins out of your hair as well as remove the braid, allowing your hair to tumble around your shoulders.
The last thing you do is pull a sweatshirt from your college over your shirt, hiding the intricate tattoos that decorate your arm. And you grab a matching hat and hurry back into the hallway, “Okay. How’s this?”
Hunter blinks at you, twice, “Aren’t you supposed to be a redhead?”
“Wig.”
“Huh. You know, if I hadn’t seen you go inside, I wouldn’t have recognized you at all.”
“The clothing that I prefer doesn’t go along with the whole popstar thing.” You admit sheepishly, “And the wig is because I was told that my natural color is boring.”
“Well, it’s a good thing that you’re so different from the you that the rest of the world knows. That means my plan might work.” Hunter motions for you to follow him, “Your manager said that I could park my car in your garage.”
“Well, yeah. It’s not like I can drive.”
“Right. Well, here’s my plan. You and I are going to go and hide out on the Marauder.”
“What’s the Marauder?”
“A ship. My ship. It’s not large, but you’ll be safe.” Hunter replies as he leads you into the garage, “Put the hat on. You’ll be sitting in the front seat.”
“Uhm…”
“Nervous.”
“Someone is trying to kill me.”
Hunter smiles at you and lightly presses his hand against your shoulder, “I’m not going to let that happen.”
Somehow, amazingly, you believe him.
Two weeks later, Hunter is sitting at the helm of the Marauder, a frown pulling down his lips.
The situation has gotten worse. Far worse.
The stalker has turned into a murderer, having killed three women who look like the pop star. Well, how the public sees her, at least.
He hasn’t told her yet.
By this point, he knows her well enough to know that the knowledge that three women died because they looked like her would torture her.
“Hunter?”
“Yeah, I’m still here, Tech.”
“Good. What do you think?”
“I’m not sure, vod. What do the Feds think?”
“One of them wants you to bring her back, so they can use her as bait.”
“Tell me you told them that that’s not going to happen.”
“Oh yes. Crosshair was very specific about that.”
“Good.”
There’s silence for a moment, and then Tech speaks again, “I called in Phee for some help. And Echo called in Fives.”
“Yeah? They helping?”
“Fives has brought some interesting insight into the stalker’s mind. He is quite the talented profiler.” Tech replies, “Phee is doing some digging of her own, though I’m not sure what she is looking into.”
“What do you think, Tech? Gut reaction.”
“You know I do not operate that way.” Tech chides his older brother, “However, there is something strange about one of the Agents. So I have started looking into him.”
“Yeah?”
“Yes. I will let you know what I learn.”
“Be careful, don’t go anywhere without Wrecker or Crosshair.” Hunter pauses, at the sound of movement below deck, “Listen, I have to go.”
“I will be as careful as I can. Tech out.”
The call disconnects, and Hunter sighs as he drops the phone back on the table. There’s the sound of light footsteps, and he turns as the bridge door opens, “Morning, Sunshine.”
“Good morning,” She replies, a small smile on her face. The scent of sunblock fills the small room, “Everything alright?”
“Yeah. Just talking to Tech.” Hunter pauses, “I’m afraid we can’t return to shore just yet.”
“Well, that’s okay. I think I’m finally starting to develop my sea legs.”
Hunter laughs, “Well, you haven’t fallen yet today, but it’s still early.”
She huffs, “Rude.”
Hunter just grins at her, “So, what’s your plan for today?”
“Mm, maybe I’ll continue working on my next song.” She replies thoughtfully, “But I haven’t decided yet.”
Hunter shifts in his seat, “Let me ask you a question, Sunshine.”
“What’s up?”
“Do you even like singing?”
“I…” She hesitates, “I like dancing. The singing is…well, I can take it or leave it.”
“If you’re not happy, then why don’t you stop?”
“...I’ve been singing since I was a teenager. I grew up in front of cameras. What else can I do?”
“You could teach dancing.”
“Yeah, maybe.” She shrugs and drops into the seat across from him, “I dunno, though. I mean, sure, I have a degree but it’s a General Education degree. And I wouldn’t want people to come to learn from me simply because of who I am.”
“Look, if you don’t like your job, then quit.”
“It’s not that simple.”
“Why not?”
“Well, there’s a contract, for one. And, for another…I dunno. Change is scary, I guess.”
Hunter stares at her for a moment, and he smiles. “You know. You don’t look anything like the woman who performs on stage.”
“Makeup is the great equalizer.” She jokes.
“I think you’re much prettier like this. Without all of the makeup and the wigs.”
She laughs softly and averts her gaze for a moment, and then her gaze locks with his, “Well. You’d be alone in thinking that.”
“Come on, man. I’ve been told since I was a teenager that I’m not good enough as I am.” She shrugs, “You hear something enough times, and you start to think it about yourself, right?”
“You know. I think I hate your parents.”
Her head falls back as she laughs, “Have you seen some of the outfits they okayed for me when I was still a kid? My stylist dressed me like a porn star.”
Hunter grins at her, “And when did you get those? The tattoos.”
“The first one was when I was 18. After the court cases were over. And then another one at 19, and my back piece was finished shortly before I turned 20.” She says as she holds out her arm so he's able to see the vines and flowers, next to the musical notes on her leg.
“A backpiece, huh?”
“A butterfly." She explains, "What about you? When did you get yours.”
“19. All of them at 19.”
“All of them? The face one is obvious, but you have more?”
“Oh yeah. I was a dumb kid and went all in on the skeleton thing.” Hunter replies with a grin, “It goes all the way down.”
“No way.”
“Way.”
“Your artist didn’t try to talk you out of it?” She asks.
“Oh, he tried. He’s also an older brother, so he didn’t try all that hard.”
“How many brothers do you have?”
“A lot. There’s so many of us.” Hunter stands and heads to the door, “Come on, sunshine. Let’s work on your knots.”
“Ugh. Not more knots.”
“Yup. You gotta learn.”
“Fiiiine.” She sighs as she gets to her feet, “But I want to see your chest tattoo.”
“Only if I can get a look at your tattoos.”
“Deal.”
Hunter leads her to where the rope is located and gets her started on her knots before he leans back and watches her. She’s, actually, very talented. His sunshine has deft fingers, and a good memory.
She’d make a good deckhand.
Plus, in her own words, she’s not very happy with the lack of privacy that comes with being a pop star. She does it because she feels like she has no choice.
Also, she’s cute and he likes looking at her.
Watching the “Pop Musical Sensation Galatic Mint” shed her skin and turn into a normal woman, with normal likes and dislikes, has been eye-opening.
Watching her fold back into her shell will be heartbreaking.
“What?”
“Hm?”
She’s staring at him, her head tilted to the side, “You’re staring.”
“You’re pretty. Very starable.”
“Come on, Hunter.”
He laughs, “I’m being honest, but I’m also thinking.”
“Yeah?”
“You’re pretty good at this. You’d be welcome on my crew if you wanted a place.”
“What? Give up the glitz and glam for a life on a ship?”
“You hate the glitz and glam.”
“Well, you’re not wrong about that.” She admits.
“I need to tell you something,” Hunter says, “Something I should have told you earlier.”
She paused mid-knot, “What’s wrong?”
“Your stalker,” Hunter says slowly, “He’s escalating.”
“Well, yeah. That’s what the Federal Agents said when the sheep head was sent to my home.” She replies, “And the attempted assassination—”
“He’s murdered three women.”
“...what?”
“Women who look like you.” Hunter says, “Well, who look like you when you perform, at least.”
“Oh my god,”
“Listen, this isn’t your fault.”
“But if I hadn’t left—”
“Then you’d probably be dead now.”
She stares at him and sets the rope on the table, “Why didn’t you tell me?”
“I didn’t want you to stress about it.” Hunter admits, he reaches across the table and takes your hand in his, “Listen. My brothers have called in a profiler and someone else to help them. They think they’re getting close now.”
She doesn’t say anything for a moment, “I’m going to have to retire from performing.”
“Sunshine—”
“Women are dying. Because of me.”
“No.”
“Yes, Hunter. I might not be killing them, but they are dying because of me.” She squeezes his hand, “How am I supposed to live with that?”
“I don’t know. But you’re going to have to.” Hunter says quietly.
“Do you blame me?”
“Never.”
“But—”
He squeezes her hands and she trails off, “Listen to me. You could have shot them yourself, and I still wouldn’t blame you, okay?”
“That would…definitely be my fault then, Hunter.”
“You would have had good reason, I’m sure.”
She laughs weakly, “You’re a good man, Hunter.”
“Not that good.”
“No, you are.” She smiles at him weakly, “Um…I’m not really feeling being social. Do you mind if I just hang out below deck today?”
“Of course not.”
She gently pulls her hands from his grasp and gets to her feet, and then she drops a light kiss on his cheek, “Thank you, Hunter.”
“For what?”
“For listening. And protecting me.”
“You don’t have to thank me for that, Sunshine.” He pauses, “Sunshine.”
“Yeah?”
“No phone calls.”
“I remember.” She replies.
Hunter watches as she heads to the stairs that lead below deck, and he sighs and closes his eyes. Maker, he’s an idiot.
“Hey, sunshine.”
She pauses on the stairs and turns to look at him, “Yeah?”
“Hold on a second.” He gets to his feet and crosses over to her.
She moves to stand on the deck again, “Something wrong?”
“Not wrong, so much as I’m something of an idiot.”
“I don’t—?”
Hunter brings his hand up to cup her cheek, and she blinks at him in confusion. “Like I said, I’m an idiot,” He jokes, before he leans in and brushes her lips with his own.
It can’t even be called a proper kiss, so much as a promise for more, if she’s willing.
When Hunter pulls back her eyes are wide, and she looks flustered.
“Was that alright?” He asks softly.
“Um…yeah. It was more than alright, actually.” She replies softly, “Can we do it again?”
He chuckles and leans in, and his lips are about to press against hers when the phone up in the wheelhouse rings loudly. “Hold that thought.” Hunter takes the stairs two at a time and grabs the phone, “Yeah?”
“Hunter, it’s Fives.”
“Hey, vod. What’s up?”
“Listen. It was one of the agents.” Fives speaks quickly, “They pulled some strings, and they know where you are.”
Hunter goes cold, “Is he on the way?”
“Yes. The Feds are hoping to intercept him before he arrives at the Marauder. But, well.”
“It’s not going to happen.”
“No. He’s also killed three more women in the last week. That’s a total of at least 6 victims. Probably more based on some of the information that Phee and Tech have given me.”
“And he’s heading here.”
“Yeah.”
“Thanks for the heads up, Fives.”
“Happy hunting, vod.”
“Will do.” Hunter hangs up the phone and heads back down to the deck. “You need to get below deck, Sunshine.”
She stares at him, eyes wide, “He found us, didn’t he?”
“Yeah, so it seems. Below deck. No one is going to hurt you so long as I’m around.” Hunter promises.
Slowly, she nods and turns to head below deck. Hunter follows her to the bottom of the stairs and grabs the fire door, to pull it shut.
“Be careful.” She whispers.
“Always am, Sunshine.” He pulls the fire door shut and makes sure that it’s properly sealed before he heads up and grabs his guns out of the safe, making sure that they’re loaded and the safety is off.
His Sunshine will be safe, any other option is out of the question. This asshole has terrorized her for long enough. It’s time to end this.

☼ trick question pt1 (Finnick Odair) ☼
summary; Finnick admitted you were his celebrity crush in his last interview, this year, he has something to reveal.

part two
–
“Ladies and gentlemen, tonight we have the up and coming model from California joining us today!” Caesar Flickerman shouts with a wide grin on his face, hand extended out in the direction of Finnick, “Finnick Odair!”
Finnick takes the steps one at a time, being careful as to not let his dress shoes get caught on the carpet. He’s watched Caesar’s show plenty of times before, and he’s seen plenty of other people make the mistake of dragging their feet. All it takes is the top of the brand new shoe and you’ll trip.
Finnick smiles brightly, waving at the live audience. There’s only one stray whistle that comes from an audience member in the back. From what he remembers from the last time he was on the show, there shouldn’t be any loud noises in order to prevent the sensitive microphones from blowing. The fan should be let off easily.
“Welcome back!” Caesar says, Finnick extends his hand.
“It’s great to be back, Caesar.” They shake hands, and then Finnick settles on the couch, “I thought that the last time I was here would be the only time.”
“Why’s that?”
Finnick makes a face, “I didn’t think I’d be popular enough.”
“Well, congratulations on being popular.” He laughs, sitting in his chair, crossing a leg, “We have a lot to talk about.”
“Oh great.” Finnick muses, “We should get started then.”
“Yes, I wanna ask you about your latest experience with fashion. You’ve been doing a lot of shows recently, especially with the fashion designer Cinna.” Caesar becomes more serious, “What’s it like working with him?”
Finnick nods, “Cinna’s brilliant, really. I’m lucky to wear more of his tame ideas, rather than the bright and shiny ones.”
“Yes, because we all know how Cashmere and Gloss feel about them!” He laughs, “I do have a question, since you work very closely with other models. How is the young Katniss Everdeen? Is she adjusting well? I heard that the flammable piece was almost a break for her.”
“I can’t say, exactly. I wasn’t present for the conversation between her and Cinna. I did hear from their contract manager that she was looking into other stylists if they couldn’t accommodate her.” Finnick tilts his head, “Since she is—as you said—young, she’s very careful about how she approaches revealing her body.”
“That’s right, those contracts can be very demanding.” Caesar agrees, “I remember you telling me that it almost cost you your job to ask for different clothes.”
“I’m very lucky that I have wonderful friends that would take the fall for me like that, even if the outfits aren’t designed for their body types.” Finnick nods, “As unfortunate as it is for the stylists to have their clothes stretched, it’s not worth a model's discomfort. I did explicitly say that I wasn’t comfortable exposing my body.”
Caesar nods, “Would you have worn that second flame piece if Cinna had asked you?”
Finnick lets out a laugh, “Well, Peeta and I are two different sizes. It surely would’ve been uncomfortable to wear. However, if he had told me that he couldn’t do it, I would’ve tried to make it work.”
“Peeta and Katniss are very lucky to know you.”
“I’m lucky to know them.”
Caesar tilts his head, “While we’re on the topic, I heard that you and Johanna Mason are working on your own line.”
Finnick tries to hide his smile. He’s been asked about it in every interview under the sun lately. They don’t know what the line is, and neither him nor Johanna are planning to release it to the public just yet. They’re working on a beauty line that’ll cover most of the bases. Finnick wants to cover skincare, and Johanna wants natural dyes for hair so it’s less damaging, since she changes her hair color often.
“We’re working on something, yes.”
Caesar raises his eyebrows, “Are you open to discussing any detail about it?”
“It won’t surprise the public when it does come out. That’s all I’ll be saying as of right now. Johanna likes to keep her projects secret, and I’m not trying to get on her bad side.” Finnick laughs, Caesar joins in.
“That’s fair, okay.” There’s a mischievous smile that crosses Caesar’s face, “Do you remember the last time you were here and I asked you about your celebrity crush?”
Finnick lets out an audible sigh, he can feel the heat returning to his face. He doesn’t know how Caesar has such a way with words, but he managed to get Finnick to admit who he likes in front of a live audience. Which then proceeded to trend on Twitter, and then further get the attention of the girl that he’s liked for a while now.
“Don’t remind me.”
“I will be, actually.” Caesar laughs, “Remind me, who is it?”
“Do we have to do this, Caesar?” Finnick chuckles, but complys, “Her name is (Y/n) (L/n).”
“And what is she known for?”
It’s a good thing that Finnick knows where he’s going with this, “For those of you at home and in the audience that don’t know who (Y/n) is, she’s an actress. Show them what she looks like, Caesar.”
He laughs, and the screen behind him changes to be a picture of you from the red carpet a month ago for a premiere. There’s a pretty smile on your face and your body is halfway turned to give them the illusion that you were going to walk away, but it was just a pose that most do.
Caesar clears his throat, “Everyone, (Y/n) plays a number of characters across tv shows and movies alike. She has a liking for the darker themes, and she leans towards apocalyptic and dystopian movies the most, and shows that have repeating criminal activity that centers around the character.”
Finnick nods, rubbing his neck, “She normally plays the gruesome characters and she does it beautifully, alright?”
There’s a few laughs, Caesar raises his eyebrows, “What about her do you like, Finnick? Be more specific.”
Finnick rolls his eyes, “I said that she captivates me every time she’s on screen. She’s a wonderful actress and I find myself being pulled in with the story.”
“But only for her, right?” Caesar teases, “Not for someone as handsome as Beetee Latier?”
“I’m sure Beetee is also an amazing actor, but we’re talking about (Y/n).”
“That we are. I saw a number of tweets of hers from the last time you were here.” Caesar laughs, as the screen behind him changes to be the screenshots they took of the interaction.
Finnick shakes his head, “Don’t do this.”
“We’re doing this. Ladies and gentlemen, it seems to me that (Y/n) had a lot to say.” Caesar flicks through the screenshots. It’s mostly of you replying to other people talking about the interview that took place last year. The slideshow quickens, “A lot. But from what my crew gathered, she was very flattered.”
“Very. What can I say? I’m a flattering man.” Finnick smiles.
“So flattering that you somehow managed to get her phone number.” Caesar raises his eyebrows, “Can I tell them?”
Finnick motions, “Well you’ve basically told them already.”
Caesar turns suddenly, slapping his hands on his thighs, “Finnick and (Y/n) became official. I want everyone to give a big welcome to (Y/n)!”
You peek your head out from behind the curtain with a scrunched nose. You follow Finnick’s directions from earlier, warning you about tripping on the carpet, especially in these heels. You’re sure to lift your feet and walk carefully. Caesar and Finnick are now on their feet.
You hug Caesar slightly, give a wave to the audience, and then turn to Finnick. He knows that he can’t touch your face, he’s got in the bad habit of doing it lately, and it’s been hard to break him out of it. You wish it wasn’t that easy to ruin your makeup, but there’s not much you can do.
You press a kiss to Finnick’s lips, and pull away giggling when the audience cheers louder. Finnick sits, and watches you carefully as you tuck the dress under you, turning your legs to the side so that your knees almost touch Finnick’s legs. The worst part about wearing a dress is sitting down.
Finnick takes your hand, squeezing it tightly.
“(Y/n), I believe this is the first time we’re meeting.” Caesar says.
“With the exception of backstage, I’d say so too.” You laugh, they do too.
“Tell me, what was it like meeting Finnick for the first time in person?”
You tilt your head, “He’s a gentleman through and through. I could’ve asked for the world on that first date and it was clear to me that he would’ve found a way to do it.”
“And you didn’t ask for the world?”
“I decided to save that for the second date.”
“What was it like hearing that Finnick had a crush on you?”
You make a face, “Weird, if I’m honest. He’s a celebrity in the modeling world. I’m a celebrity in the acting world. It’s almost as if we shouldn’t collide, and yet we’re still here. You can see weird couples all across the Capitol, it’s really something else.”
“That’s very true.” Caesar agrees, “Someone told me that you were trying to get Finnick into acting.”
“Yes, I am.” You give a look to Finnick. He’s already shaking his head, “He thinks I’m lying when I say that he has potential. I think he could be phenomenal outside of modeling if he wanted to. If he decided that he didn’t like acting, modeling will still be there for him.”
“You think that Cinna would allow him to come back?” Caesar asks curiously.
“I’ve talked to Cinna on a couple of occasions. He’s a very understanding man, and he would do a lot for his models, including letting them come back from a break. For a lot of other companies, it’s a one-and-done sort of deal. Finnick’s fortunate that he has Cinna.”
“What do you think about acting, Finnick?”
“The idea’s growing on me, I’ll admit.” Finnick smiles, “I don’t think I’ll feel comfortable doing it if (Y/n) isn’t beside me to help, but it’s hard getting a job beside her because they’re looking for a certain level of expertise.”
“And that’s true, but a lot of actors and actresses get weird roles all the time. I’m a good example of that. I was told when I first joined the industry that I’d never get the gory roles, and now those are all I get.”
“Out of spite, I presume?”
“Partially.” You laugh, “But also because I set my mind to it. That’s why I believe Finnick can do it too.”
Finnick softly smiles at you, “I love your confidence in me, but I’m not feeling the same way.”
You shake your head at Finnick.
“Well, I think it’s about time we took a break.” Caesar says, you and Finnick nod. Caesar turns to face the camera, “When we come back, we’ll discuss (Y/n)’s brief experience with modeling and why she chose not to go on. I’ll see you in a few minutes.”

have been feeling listless and unmoored re: sims stuff lately, but i got a healthy dose of inspiration from @warwickroyals & @prydainroyals this past week, so i did a little succession / magazine-ish thing :^) obviously beatriz's 2023 death would be commemorated in uspanian vogue !!!!! obviously !!!!
transcribed text below:
Fashion is a Royal (and Family) Affair
That Crown Princess Barbie is a student of Uspanian style isn’t a surprise. For this issue, she recounts the historical episode at the heart of our memorial for the late Queen Beatriz. Pictured above in private photos are: Mother Desideria in 1860; Mother Zuriñe in 1885; Mother Rowena and then-Crown Prince Alfonso in 1926.
THE “BIRDIE” ISSUE OF VOGUE USPANA debuted in 1973. At the time, the magazine was in its infancy. An issue shaped by the queen—and it was, from cover to cover, driven by her desires and presence—ensured longevity. It proved to be a bestseller. Clothes, too, flew off the racks as Uspana’s designers received a boost among popular consumers. A textiles renaissance commenced among women of a certain class who had been looking elsewhere for quality fabric. Then and now, this was the mission of the magazine: loyalty to Uspanian fashion. The Birdie issue was a testament to this, from the sensibilities it imparted to the sourcing of its materials. The queen’s favorite designers, stylists, and photographers filled the issue; it made them iconic, and they would continue to set national trends for decades to come. More importantly, the Birdie issue fit into a larger project underway during Beatriz’s reign. Foreign fashion’s creep into the Uspanian mainstream had started two centuries before Beatriz obtained the Crown, but it reached its cultural apex under the sway of her mother. Uspana’s people had long reviled Queen Rowena’s taste in one breath and wished to emulate it in the second. The two women were not seemingly opposed in a diametric sense. They overlapped under the label of “extravagant,” namely, but Beatriz was forgiven her excess. The Birdie issue, in retrospect, shows why. In an initial meeting with the queen, she told then-editor Lluc Soler that she cared deeply about a “revival” of traditional fashion in the country. Soler replied that traditional fashion was alive and well—“in the mountains, with the grandmothers.” Some in the annals have suggested that this retort led to control of the issue being ceded informally to a team with whom the queen preferred to work. (By 1975, Papan Ibarra had risen from those ranks to become the magazine’s new editor-in-chief, a position she occupied until 1991.) Nonetheless, a certain truth in Soler’s statement formed the foundation of the issue. It did draw heavy inspiration from those grandmothers in the mountains. This included people such as the queen’s own grandmother, Mother Zuriñe, who readily embraced the aesthetics of Yaas and was a master weaver in her own right. The cover reflected the elevated homage orchestrated within. On it, Birdie herself posed in a wool rebozo hand-dyed with cochineal. This garment was a perfect duplicate of the so-called suncloths the queen’s great-grandmother, Mother Desideria, wore on a regular basis in the late nineteenth century. Fittingly, it was also topped with a replica inspired by the time. One of the many jewelry pieces destroyed during the 1880s had been the Shield Flower tiara with its red fire opal set in gold and symbolic allusions to the sacrifice and self-immolation of Uspana’s founding mothers. Queen Beatriz wore tiaras on many occasions, but it was widely known that she preferred to wear the true Uspanian symbol of elite regalia: the jade necklace. For that reason, jade

Interview: French Fashion during the German Occupation (1940-1944)
In 2024, France is celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Liberation (1944), and as part of a series of conferences organised by the Société archéologique et historique de Beaugency, Catherine Join-Dieterle, Doctor in History of Art and General Curator of Cultural Heritage, gave a fascinating talk titled Fashion in France under the German Occupation. In this exclusive interview, Ms Join-Dieterle talks more on this subject to Babeth Étiève-Cartwright, revealing a subject that really is a lot less frivolous than it seems.
Dimanches de la femme, 24 April 1938
Dorvyne - Bibliothèque nationale de France (Public Domain)
BEC: Catherine Join-Dieterle, on behalf of World History Encyclopedia, I would like to thank you for agreeing to conduct this interview. When we hear about the German Occupation, we conjure up images that are far removed from the world of fashion and yet, fashion being a reflection of society, it played a sizeable role in those difficult years. Could you start by giving us some examples of how fashion evolved in France in the 1930s?
CJD: At the dawn of the 1930s, fashion had abandoned the short dress that had so marked the Roaring Twenties. Dresses and coats now reached mid-calf and the feminine figure, which had previously been suppressed, was now emphasised. Long, flowing dresses were worn in the evening, while suits and ensembles emphasised the waist. However, as the sound of boots grew more insistent, some designs were influenced by army outfits, with square shoulders, shako-inspired hats and the use of khaki. But there was also a much more optimistic trend, with designers such as Elsa Schiaparelli (1890-1973) and Christian Dior (1905-1957) proposing much more romantic and even surrealist outfits, influenced by artists such as Salvador Dali (1904-1989). We then saw the emergence of the shoe hat and fuller long dresses with vaporous sleeves were the order of the day.
BEC: So, what happened once the German Occupation was firmly established? The new political reality of course had many dramatic consequences on the lives of the French people, but what about fashion?
CJD: The German Occupation had many repercussions on fashion in France because of the conditions imposed on the French people. The occupying forces decided to take three-quarters of the country's production, so the French had to make do with what the Germans would be willing to let them have. Rationing was introduced, and the French were obliged to use ration coupons to buy supplies, including clothes. For example, this is what a woman was entitled to at the time:
two dresses
two aprons or blouses
one mackintosh
two pairs of winter gloves
one winter coat
three blouses
two overalls
three pairs of underpants
six pairs of stockings
six handkerchiefs
one pair of flat shoes (which had to last four years).

Most women turned to sewing, their own resourcefulness (taking old jumpers apart), upcycling (believe it or not, this is not a recent innovation), and even the black market. With certain materials being extremely difficult to find (leather, for example), French creativity adapted by using new materials: wood for shoes, rayon (a textile fibre made from wood cellulose) for clothes and parachute fabric, which is extremely strong, to make men's shirts. Old fabrics lying around in stocks or attics were also reused (the tartan so popular in previous years made a remarkable comeback), and many outfits were in fact made up of different types of elegantly coordinated fabric.
From a stylistic point of view, fashion had to follow a new path; models became utilitarian, strict and responded to the harshness of living conditions. Outfits were therefore warmer (it was difficult to keep warm, and winters were particularly cold), quilted with cotton wool and more innovative to cope with scarcity. As it was difficult, if not impossible, to obtain leather, handbags became rare and we then saw the emergence of large pockets that made it possible to do without them. These could be sewn directly onto the garment or added using a separate belt. There was also a need for all-purpose clothing that could be used in all circumstances, and so the suit made its appearance, with a shorter skirt and a slit at the front to make it easier to ride a bicycle (petrol being a rare commodity, the bicycle experienced a remarkable boom at that time).
BEC: What about men's fashion?
CJD: There were also a lot of restrictions imposed on men. In 1942, suits and overcoats were no longer allowed to have gussets, box pleats or half-belts, and double-breasted waistcoats and knickerbockers were banned. Trousers were allowed only one pocket, and trouser cuffs were absolutely forbidden. All this to save fabric. Boys were no longer allowed to wear sailor collars and were obliged to wear short trousers until the age of 15.

BEC: All repression eventually has a reaction. Did the French rebel against these rules? Knowing the contesting nature of the French people, I can't bring myself to believe that they accepted all this without batting an eyelid!
CJD: Definitely! The French were quick to get round the rules! You can only buy one pair of flat shoes every four years? Whatever! We'll make wooden shoes with platform soles! Can't find stockings in the shops? No problem, women could resort to stitching or dyeing their legs with walnut oil (not forgetting the thin black line for the seam) ... there were even ready-made kits for this. Large bags were theoretically forbidden; however, carrier bags (some made from the superb cashmere scarves so many had inherited) were worn across the shoulders, very useful for stuffing products bought in shops whenever supplies came in, and if possible, double-bottomed bags, so that documents or other secret messages could be safely transported.
Fashion would also become a means of taunting the occupying Germans as well as a means of propaganda: hats, even though banned, would rise, to keep heads held high, patterns of blue, white and red fabric with words or slogans like travail, famille, patrie ("work, family, homeland") here and there for good measure, buttons in the shape of patriotic Gallic roosters. And then there were the zazous. This French term was used to describe those young people who had "an immoderate passion for American jazz music and who made a name for themselves with their eccentric dress" (Trésor de la langue française informatisé). It was, in fact, an international movement (they were called ‘zooters’ in the United States). The young men would wear baggy trousers (in the face of restrictions on fabric), wear their hair medium-length in reaction to short military haircuts, and the girls, who wore excessive make-up, would have short skirts and puffy hairdos. Needless to say, these young people were frowned upon by Marshal Pétain's moralistic regime!
BEC: So far, we've mainly talked about everyday fashion, the fashion of ordinary people. What about haute couture? Did designers have the right to work in their ateliers, but above all did they have the necessary means to do so?
CJD: Unfortunately, at the start of the Occupation, some major fashion houses had to close down, such as Vionnet (1876-1975) and Schiaparelli. Chanel (1883-1971) moved to the South of France before closing her house too. Young designers who had not yet opened their own houses, such as Pierre Balmain (1914-1982) and Christian Dior, were drafted in. From 1941 onwards, however, there was a resurgence of haute couture work, and French excellence became perceived by many as a form of resistance. Haute couture was also a key sector for the French economy because of the number of people involved. France was providing fashionable outfits for the beautiful ladies of the whole world! People bought their clothes in Paris or copied Parisian models! Unfortunately, shortages and bans made it impossible to publish photos of models in magazines, so we had to resort to illustrations in fashion magazines such as Mode du Jour, Silhouettes, and Marie-Claire.

However, if there is one name to remember in connection with haute couture during the German Occupation, it is that of Lucien Lelong (1889-1958), president of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture (Haute Couture Trade Union Chamber), who did everything in his power to prevent the Germans from moving this economic sector to Germany. At the end of the war, to ensure that France regained its position as champion of fashion, Lelong and Robert Ricci (1905-1988, co-founder of the Fashion house Nina Ricci) initiated a travelling exhibition of miniature mannequins (70 cm or 27.5 in high) dressed by the top designers. This ‘theatre of fashion’ would travel the world for a whole year, signalling the return of French stylists and proving that, thanks to the incredible talent of many artists, French haute couture still deserved its place at the top of the international fashion league.
BEC: Of course, much more could be said on this subject, including the infamous yellow star imposed on French Jews, some of the designers who publicly flaunted their support for the German occupiers, and Coco Chanel's controversial stance, but perhaps all that will be the subject of a future conversation.
Thank you, Ms Join-Dieterle, for sharing your expertise with our readers. It is a fascinating topic and we are very grateful to you for providing us with the opportunity to learn so much about French fashion during the German Occupation. On behalf of everyone at World History Encyclopedia and our readers, thank you again for your valuable contribution.

The Style Evolution of JT: From Federal Prison to City Cinderella ✨
3 minute read
As one half of the rap duo the City Girls, rapper JT’s fashion was not a main talking point in her career. Now, as an emerging solo artist, JT arguably has some of the best fashion in the entire music industry. From working with brands such as Poster Girl and Mowalola, it’s clear that JT is the perfect fashion icon for the girls that get it.
At the beginning of her career, (2017 ish) JT wore almost exclusively designer brands, reminiscent of someone who just came into a large sum of money. She was dripped out in Dolce and Gabbana, Chrome Hearts, and Moschino - all brands popular for their very large price tags. But as the old saying goes: Just because you have money, doesn’t mean you can dress. To be clear, JT had money AND was into fashion before starting her rap career (she stated in an interview she was able to buy herself a Classic Chanel bag before the fame). In my opinion, her industry connections after she signed to record label Quality Control helped her focus not so much on wearing expensive clothes. Instead, seasoned stylists and designers helped her craft her own unique aesthetic, while focusing on pieces that accentuate her silhouette and new tax bracket.
JT pictured with fellow City Girl Yung Miami (left)
JT made her daring new style debut at the 2023 MTV VMA’s, sporting a pink, Mirror Palais ss24 gown and matching Marc Jacobs boots. This look (one of my favorites) was a turning point in her fashion career. It showed that she was more in tune with the fashion world. By wearing a lesser known designer, her affinity for big label brand flashiness was over. Now, I viewed her as a true fashion girlie, by sourcing and styling runway and archival pieces. Her unique style, which incorporates the “coquette” aesthetic, features latex pieces, corsets, platforms shoes, choker necklaces, and dainty bows. It is a style distinct to her, and not many could pull it off without looking crazy.
JT is on her way to becoming a fashion icon. Her outfits are always daring, meticulous, and true to her, which is the most important thing in fashion. She often collaborates with female designers and doesn’t care if you like what she’s wearing or not. In an iconic line from her song No Barz, she brags about being a “Hood bitch dressed like a weirdo”, to which I must agree. JT is a “weirdo” in the best way possible. Her unique fashion sense and dedication to it is refreshing and inspiring for girls that look like her and myself. JT is currently doing a club run tour in the United States, while steadily building a strong, supportive fan base. I am very excited to see all the iconic looks to come in this new era of her career!

How the bachelorettes will play the The Sims 3:
Haley:
Will spend 2 hours to create the perfect design for her sim's clothes.
Cheat code for a huge amount of money.
The richest house, the best cars, the biggest TV, etc.
Favorite expansion packs: Late night, Showtime and Island Paradise.
Goes to expensive bars and places to get interesting moodlets. Only the best and expensive thing!
Got "heartbreaker" lifetime's wish the very first in her game.
Of course, she's a popular super star! Admittedly, she constantly has to fight back her good name when her sim is publicly reviled. Oh, that popularity!
Maxed out the photographer's and serfing skill set.
Decided to try to learn a new skills in game. Her sim died in a fire the first time she tried to make macaroni and cheese.
Penny:
Another interesting thing that helps her escape from reality (besides books).
Never uses cheat codes, trying to achieve everything herself.
Favorite expansion packs: Generation and Seasons.
Creates the perfect modest newlywed couple. One of the sims is her exact copy and the other is her dream spouse.
At first was upset that her sim had many failed attempts at cooking (too close to reality). Eventually pumped the skill to the max.
Gave her sim a career in school.
Mini heart attack every time a thief or ghost showed up at her sim's house.
Goes into the build menu just to listen to music.
Created as many children as the game allowed. Happy big family!
Emily:
She spent twice as much time designing her sim's hair and clothes as her sister.
Inspired after the game, went to my sewing machine to recreate the clothes in reality.
Love all the expansion, but her favorite is Ambition. Because a career as a Stylist! Also pets, because parrot!
Her sim knows every skill in the game bit by bit.
She'll be picking up every stray animal.
Stopped doing that when one of the stray cat ate her parrot.
Was upset that unlike cats and dogs, she can't put a grave for a parrot.
Collects various gems and collects them in the Sim's house. Gems everywhere!
Abigail:
She thought it was a boring game, but when she found out you could create a sim as a ghost! Or a vampire! Or a werewolf, or a witch? She could become an adventurer? Awesome!
Favorite expansions are World Adventures and Supernatural.
Uses the occasional $1000 dollar cheat code to buy a ticket to another country.
Sim's personal life? No time for that, she has adventures waiting for her in Egypt!
Pumping skill sports to fight with the mummy.
No money for food? Time to look for breakfast in the trash cans!
Enjoys getting interesting moodlets, no matter positive or negative.
Created the sim as a witch and practiced magic during the adventure.
Making stinky potion? Absolutely yes 😈
Often saved to watch a sim die from a trap in adventures or from other things.
Leah:
She is more interested in the architecture and design of the house than the game itself.
Uses money cheats to buy the necessary items to create the perfect cottage house.
However, she does not use cheats during the game itself. She enjoys creating the perfect house on a small budget.
Favorite expansions are Seasons, University Life, and Career.
The first expansion is for fall aesthetics 🤌 the other two are for pumping up her artist and sculptor skills.
A nemesis with a neighbor who strongly resembles her ex in personality.
Often sits in the city editor (like, almost 90% of her time), redesigning other sims' homes.
Her sim visits countries just to paint beautiful landscape and buy a bottle of "juice".
Also, the gardening skill is half developed.
Her sim was eaten by a carnivorous cow flower. And she didn't even keep the design of the town! Eh, need to start all over again...
Maru:
Doesn't spend a lot of time creating a sim.
Of course they have the Inventor character, how could they not.
Favorite expansions packs are Ambition and Into the Future.
So many ideas in the game for her new inventions... A jetpack? Why not.
Fascinated by the quest to change the future into Utopia or Dystopia.
Science, invention and robot building skills are maxed out.
Used a cheat code for 1000 dollars just once to buy junk for inventions.
Made a sim Sebastian, so that at least in the game in them were good family relationships...
Synthesized food?! Now that's interesting!
Her Sims often died from burns and electrocution.
#stardew valley#sdv#sdv headcanons#sdv penny#sdv abigail#sdv leah#sdv emily#sdv maru#sdv haley#heh what a silly idea but why not#im definitely played sims in Abigail's style

it’s time to talk about the brooch he wore last night and the clowning 🎀….
yes he endorses chanel and we’ve all been following him long enough that we noticed this as his go-to style lately. to have the brooch as the signature piece of his look. aside from the iconic chanel jackets. you can say that these are all chosen by a stylist. that chanel allows them free reign of whatever they have and let them pick and choose, and that there is no cpn here. if that’s what you think. sure. go ahead. but bxg’s are wired differently so we gotta overthink. lol.
Starting first with the facts, what’s this brooch exactly?
It’s from Chanel’s 2023 Spring-Summer collection & designed by Virginie Viard. This specific brooch was featured during the Chanel Cruise show in LA so maybe that’s why in WYB’s roster to wear. I can’t see much description for it at the website aside from what it’s made of. The funny thing is the price is 850! HAHAHAHAHA! 85 is really his number.
The shape and what it’s actually supposed to represent is mixed — the most rational being is that it’s a ribbon. if we’re clowning then it could look like a 🍬 or something that can be a 🦴. However the most popular connection is that it looks like what LWJ was wearing in CQL. Yes, it’s not a brooch of course. It’s different but the reminder of it, and the similarity is enough to make us all 🥲🥲🥲
and the thing is, there was a theory before in bxg circles that LWJ didn’t wear that gem/brooch thing when he was younger. only after 16 years later, and that it’s supposed to signify someone being married ( or committed ) and you can engrave the name of the one you love on it. this is the original post and the person said it was taught by their teacher while talking about fuhao’s tomb. CQL released an art book with explanations of the clothes and all, but this was only referenced as a decorative gem. but it’s not like they can say it’s a sign of marriage too — cause lwj/wwx are supposed to be *coughs* sworn brothers *coughs* only.
whatever it is, my brain is just — wyb is married. 😌

Goth History-Episode 2: Gothic Fashion
Welcome back to my Second Episode of Goth History. If you're new to the @literaryxbones blog, don't worry! You don't have to look at the previous episode to follow this one.
Today we'll be discussing the history of gothic fashion: it's historic origins, connection to music, and its modern evolutions. Consider this a more generalized overview of goth style. There are many different iterative substyles that could warrant future entries.
Before delving into the contemporary goth scene, we must not neglect modern fashion's original, archaic influences. Stylistic inspirations date back to the Romantic Period. At the tail-end of the eighteenth century, people became disillusioned with the Industrial Revolution. They attached a sentimentality to nature, beauty, and simplistic living. Corporate technologies had long been eroding this traditional way of life.
As a result, discontent transformed clothing conventions. Dresses, vests, suits, and pants began to don elaborate, ornate patterns. Laces and ruffles exemplified its flair. A more restrictive, darker color palette of black, scarlet, purple, and brown was worn. The writings and dress of Edgar Allan Poe helped popularize the aesthetic.
With the rise of the Victorian period, British nobility adopted the darkened elegance displayed by its counterculture. In 1861, Queen Victoria mourned her husband's passing. Ever since his death, she was only seen wearing black. With the public clad in funeral garb, the commonfolk and the royalty grieved together. The color black possessed a strengthened association with death.
In the late 1970's, a rebellious post-punk subculture emerged. An emphasis on individualism, non-conformity, and a dark appreciation pervaded in their fashion. Victorian touches remained in the jackets, fishnets, and expressive makeup worn by early post-punk bands. Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure, and Bauhaus flaunted this style on their tours.
A sprinkle of Punk-designer Vivienne Westwood's carnival themes cultivated the angular trad-goth makeup look shared all over social media today.
Bauhaus often used bat symbolism in their song lyrics and outfits. These nocturnal creatures are loved by many goths alike. Bats also recall to mind the Bat Cave, a London club.
I couldn't write about the history of our subculture's fashion without mentioning DIY. "Do-It-Yourself" attitudes were embraced by multiple alternative fashion scenes. Oftentimes, people thrifted, upcycled, and sewed clothing out of necessity. Younger members couldn't afford the expensive outfits worn by celebrities and made by fashion designers. Before online-shopping, most alternative fashion was inaccessible.
DIY also allowed for more creativity. Creations became an extension of the person wearing them. Goths chose from a variety of chains, collars, charms, and rosaries as accessories. They could implement these decorations in infinite ways. Different methods of distressing, cutting up, and patching clothes gave each piece a unique quality. Upcycling became an avenue for self-expression. People made what they liked.
In more recent times, second-hand shops and the DIY ethos has been centered around anti-fast fashion movements. Fast-fashion is when big corporations mass-produce a vast catalogue of items. Production is usually outsourced to other countries with cheaper labor costs. In these places, there are little regulations protecting workers. Popular sites for sourcing alt fashion like Ali Express, Shein, and Amazon use Chinese sweatshop slavery to produce their clothes.
Overall, gothic fashion is catalyzed by scene artists, ethical dilemmas, and the creative spirit. Now, a ton of styling subgenres are gaining traction. Pastel Goth, Trad-Goth, Victorian Goth, and Cybergoth are just some of these newer terms.
It is important to remember that these styles are all goth, and that dressing to a certain aesthetic does not make you goth. Goth is in your heart. It's in the music you listen to. It's in the interests you find beauty in. You don't need to wear loud microtrends to have your identity recognized. Just have fun, wear what you want, and explore your own creativity.
Phew, that was a long post! Thank you for reading all of it. Maybe I could add in a prize for readers who read all the way to the bottom, like a hidden sticker or stamp you can use or something!

Rapper Lil' Kim Has Had A Profound Impact On Fashion Over The Years
hen Lil’ Kim made her debut with the 1996 album Hard Core, she utterly and completely changed the rap game. A protege of Notorious B.I.G., and the sole female member of his hip-hop group Junior M.A.F.I.A., Lil’ Kim, aka Kimberly Denise Jones, had a flow that was raw and gritty, with raunchy, sexually liberating lyrics that made critics clutch their pearls. Hard Core went on to become certified double platinum by the RIAA, cementing the then-22-year-old as a bona fide hip-hop god. But it wasn’t just Lil’ Kim’s lyrical prowess that set her apart from her contemporaries that came before her. Her sense of style also made her a trailblazer, solidifying her as a pop culture fashion icon.
While other women rappers like Queen Latifah, Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, and Da Brat favored more androgynous clothing, like oversize T-shirts and baggy jeans, Lil’ Kim’s outfits were ultra-feminine, bold, risqué, and revealing — as provocative and outrageous as her songs. She wore teeny-tiny bikinis, see-through silhouettes, candy-colored wigs, and equally vibrant fur coats. She also helped popularize ’90s and noughties logomania, a trend in which designer branding is made overtly obvious on one’s clothing and accessories (the antithesis to “quiet luxury”). In Kim’s case, logomania also applied to hairstyles, as she famously wore wigs with Chanel’s double “C” logo and Versace’s Greek key motif. (The move made sense for someone who frequently name-dropped designers in her lyrics). Aside from head-to-toe designer monograms, Kim has worn a sparkly catsuit made with 965,000 crystals, embellished headpieces with matching thongs, and a gray, floor-length chinchilla coat (which she modeled next to mob daughter Victoria Gotti in the video for 2003’s “Came Back for You”). The list goes on.
“She was bringing something new that we hadn’t really seen before,” says Elizabeth Way, fashion historian and associate curator at the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). “For so long, female rappers had been kind of marginalized and really tried to fit in with their male counterparts, especially with their style. Lil’ Kim rejected that and embraced her femininity in both her style and her lyrics.” Marissa Pelly, stylist for the rapper Ice Spice, shares a similar sentiment, pointing out how the industry made female musicians feel like they couldn’t boldly embrace their sexuality while simultaneously being perceived as “chic” or “luxury” — as if the two concepts could not co-exist. “Now when I see female artists owning their sexuality, while also being muses for some of fashion’s most elite houses, I think of — and I thank — Lil’ Kim.”
Behind every celebrity style icon is a brilliant stylist; a wizard behind the velvet curtain, so to speak. For Lil’ Kim, it was Misa Hylton. One cannot discuss Kim’s vestiary tours de force without mentioning the industry legend by her side, who had already been masterminding looks for Mary J. Blige, Faith Evans, Jodeci, and her then-boyfriend Sean “Diddy” Combs. But theirs was a match made in fashion heaven; the two women felt an immediate kinship. “I think that Kim and I were magical together and when you have that type of synergy only greatness can come forth. We were thinking outside of the box and unapologetically taking risks. People gravitate to that type of authentic and creative energy,” Hylton told Dazed in 2018.
The two women set the bar high high from the beginning with a legendary look the promotional poster for Hard Core, Kim’s debut album: a leopard print bikini and a sheer, marabou-trimmed duster. The one-piece was designed by Sex and the City costume designer Patricia Field, who owned a store in New York City from 1996 until 2016. It was known to be a hot shopping spot for fellow performers like Debbie Harry, Lady Gaga, and Kim’s friend and frequent collaborator Missy Elliott. Hylton and Kim frequented Field’s boutique almost daily. In the years — and decades — that followed, both the look, and Kim’s signature squatting pose, would be replicated by the likes of Teyana Taylor, Nicki Minaj, GloRilla, and countless others.
Hylton and Kim also went all out for the “Crush on You” music video, directed by Lance Rivera. Inspired by the The Wiz’s color-changing Emerald City disco dance sequence, the video featured the star in monochromatic technicolor outfits and matching wigs — and instantly catapulted her to mainstream MTV fame. “When you think of the blueprint for most female musicians’ styles today, you think the designer logos; the iced-out, statement jewelry; and different styles of wigs — that was all her,” explains stylist Estelle Aporongao. “Kim’s DNA runs through the contemporary fashion industry’s veins.”
In 1998, Kim donned a bejeweled caged headpiece and matching arm sleeves to the 1998 Soul Train Lady of Soul Awards, which felt like the ultimate statement. But the rapper topped herself yet again a year later when she attended the MTV Video Music Awards in a purple wig and lilac-colored, sequined jumpsuit, complete with a single purple pasty that garnered an unforgettable reaction from Diana Ross. The moment would become the stuff of award show legend.
That same year, Kim covered Interview magazine’s November issue wearing only a Louis Vuitton headgear and LV logos painted all over her body, a moment described as a “cultural reset” by celebrity stylist Audrey Brianne, who works with Chris Tucker and Tyler Posey. “At the time, it was a fresh idea no other star had rocked quite so boldly. If people weren’t already paying attention to Lil’ Kim by then, they were now,” she says.
To be clear, Lil’ Kim was interested in fashion long before she dressed in colorful furs. “Her high school friends recounted how she would spend her allowance on clothes and had Gucci before they even knew what it was,” explains Nygel Simons, a stylist and archivist, noting that the artist also worked at Bloomingdale’s prior to rapping full time. “It really shines through when an artist genuinely loves fashion.” Nowadays, it’s not out of the ordinary for a designer to dress hip-hop artists for red carpets or sit them front row at Fashion Week, but in the 1990s, that relationship didn’t really exist. Lil’ Kim had a je ne sais quoi that both attracted and inspired designers like Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani, Betsey Johnson, John Galliano, and Donatella Versace, who would dress her for her 1999 Met Gala debut.
Way long before Barbiecore would become a part of the cultural zeitgeist, Lil’ Kim sported a pink, full-length mink coat with a studded pink bra, matching hot pants, and pink snakeskin boots for the “Rock Style”-themed Met Gala. “Donatella is my girl. We’ve loved each other from the moment we first saw each other,” Kim told Vogue in 2020. “At the Met, you’re a designer’s muse, [and] she loved the fact that I have fun in her clothes.”
Lil’ Kim has also walked the runway for designers including Baby Phat, The Blonds, and VFiles. But her closest friendship is with fashion designer Marc Jacobs, whom she calls her “bestie” and who has played a significant role in her life and career. Jacobs dressed Kim for her court appearances and subsequently became her prison pen pal when she served a one-year sentence for lying to protect friends involved in a 2001 shootout. Kim sent Jacobs the Bratz doll coloring pages she painted, which he then had framed and hung in his house. Jacobs is also writing the foreword for her forthcoming memoir, The Queen Bee.
“These were interesting and important alliances for her during the early 2000s because it further legitimized the message to her fans and the public that her empire and reach extended well beyond music,” says stylist Alison Brooks, who works with television personality and hairstylist Jonathan Van Ness. “I believe it was a turning point, not so subtly signaling to other artists to bling themselves out in designer looks with confidence and embrace their curves with body positivity before body positivity became a thing.”
When it comes to her own work, Pelly says she’s strongly influenced by Lil’ Kim. “I love how effortlessly she would combine her own fun custom pieces with luxury ones, while also demonstrating a great deal of high-end fashion knowledge.” Pelly says she had this approach in mind while styling Ice Spice for the “Barbie World” music video, pairing a custom Chanel-inspired, Christian Cowan tweed set with a Barbiecore bra by Laser Kitten, custom Emilio Pucci, and pieces from the Gaultier archives. “It’s that duality that’s so inspiring to me and creates the most interesting, well-rounded looks every time.” She also drew ideas from Kim’s 2003 “Summer Jam” performance, in which she wears SS03 Jean Paul Gaultier script belts around her waist and chest. “I love when artists love the same brands I do... I tracked down the same belts for Ice’s Paper Magazine cover back in April as a nod to the OG style icon.”
It’s difficult to imagine what would have happened if Lil’ Kim hadn’t paved the way for women in hip-hop to take fashion risks. Cardi B might not have worn archival Mugler to the 2019 Grammy Awards, and who knows if Megan Thee Stallion would have modeled for Calvin Klein. Then there’s the countless Kim homages artists have paid over the years: Beyoncé replicated several of Kim’s famous looks for Halloween 2017; Rihanna has cited the rapper’s penchant for experimenting with different looks as a major influence on her own fashion sense; and Miley Cyrus dressed in Kim’s MTV VMAs look for Halloween back in 2013, purple pasty and all. It’s for reasons like these that stylists like Simons believe Lil’ Kim deserves official acknowledgement for her legacy, particularly from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. (For years, fans have been calling on the CFDA to honor Kim with its annual Fashion Icon award.)
One thing’s for sure: You’d be hard-pressed to find another hip-hop fashion icon with the same enduring legacy. “Lil’ Kim is the blueprint,” says Simons. “Whenever you think you’re being presented with something new, if you search hard enough, you’ll find that Kim has already done it at some point.”

District 12 Tributes on Fire at the 74th Hunger Games Culmination
Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, District 12 tributes, make a fiery debut at the opening ceremonies of the 74th annual Hunger Games.
Traditionally overlooked in favor of wealthier competitors in the previous years, the pair instantly became the center of attraction as they rode their chariot around The Capitol City Circle. Clad in coal-inspired outfits that burst into flames, their clothing brought a fresh spark to the arena.
The Capitol’s elite, usually difficult to impress, were quick to voice out approval. Caesar Flickerman, Hunger Games host, commended the brilliance witnessed.
Cinna, District 12’s stylist, conceived the bold design, diverting from the stereotypical and outdated coal miner clothing past tributes from the district were seen. The flames, synthetic and harmless, were a masterstroke by Cinna that boosted Katniss and Peeta from forgettable to famous.
Even President Snow, typically passive in his observation, was seen leaning forward from his seat - a subtle acknowledgment of the extraordinary.
Although the impact of the entrance of the District 12 tributes is nothing short of scorching hot, it also places a target on their backs. Sponsors who play critical roles in the arena are likely to be drawn to their newfound popularity, same as competitors who may view their fame as a threat. Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark are now faced with the challenge of transforming their symbolic flame into a weapon of survival before The Hunger Games prevents it from catching on.
As the Games approach, one thing is certain: The Girl on Fire and her devoted partner have set the arena ablaze, and all of Panem is watching.

Clothing of Skyrim, Part VII: Regional Styles Continued
Earlier today I attended a webinar for work which left me both intrigued and concerned. As a palate cleanser, I decided to continue working on my Clothing of Skyrim series and flesh out styles in the four holds I hadn't gotten to yet (the first five holds can be found here). This time we visit The Rift, Hjaalmarch, Eastmarch, and Winterhold!
The Rift
Riften is second only to Solitude in the volume of foreign trade that flows through the city. Its proximity to the borders of Morrowind and Cyrodiil influences styles in the region and helps support a flourishing cultural exchange. Large enclaves of Dunmer and Argonians live in the city, bringing with them their cultural and stylistic traditions. The temperate climate of The Rift allows for the wearing of clothing and textiles that would be impractical in other parts of Skyrim. Silks imported from (or, more frequently, smuggled out of) the Summerset Isles are a high-value commodity among Riften’s wealthy elite. Lining the interior of otherwise subtle garments with richly-dyed silk or satin is a favorite status symbol of bourgeois merchants living in the city. Block-printed Dunmeri designs remain popular as well. Foreign influences wane outside of Riften, where the clothing of farmers, trappers, and woodsmen more strongly resembles styles found in neighboring Falkreath and Eastmarch.
Hjaalmarch
Cold and damp are the defining characteristics of Hjaalmarch, and its inhabitants’ clothes reflect the need to survive in this harsh environment. Fulled or felted wool is worn for its warmth and water-resistant properties, and outerwear made from waxed or oiled cotton and flax is occasionally seen (though the materials are more often used as ships’ sails rather than in clothing). Since antiquity, the inhabitants of the sparsely-populated Karth River delta have passed down the skill of weaving grasses into textiles. Ornamentation on garments in this region tends to be less ornate than what is seen in neighboring Haafingar or Whiterun due to both a lack of wealth and the difficulty of trade in this inhospitable region. However, locals are known to add tassels made of yarn, string, or even grass as decoration, and decorative knotwork – a skill that originated in the fishing trade – livens the otherwise dour appearance of those living in and around the Drajkmyr Marsh.
Eastmarch
Fur and wool dominate the clothing produced in Skyrim's easternmost hold. Bear pelts are particularly prized and are often left partially intact to be worn as helms or cloaks, echoing the hold's heraldry. The Nordic preference for long hair, seen on both men and women, is particularly strong here. Elaborate braids and other designs are a common sight, with six and eight-stranded plaits being particularly popular. As a result, Windhelm is home to one of the highest concentrations of professional hairdressers in the empire. In the south of Eastmarch, those living in small villages around the region’s hot springs have recently established a lucrative dyeing industry. The springs’ abundant sulfur, when mixed with caustic soda and other compounds, produces colorfast black, gray, and rich brown cotton dyes that are difficult or nigh-impossible to replicate via other processes. The burgeoning trade in textiles has been an economic boon for these parts of the hold.
Winterhold
Hsaarik’s Head has the distinction of being the landing point for the Atmoran migration to Skyrim, and Winterhold has held to Atmoran traditions and ways of dress more than any other hold in the kingdom. Embroidery on leather is a defining feature of the style, and fur trim and linings are a near-necessity for surviving the long, cold winters. Owl and hawk designs, again drawing on Atmoran tradition, are a recurring motif. In the College of Winterhold, elaborately quilted robes help insulate the faculty and apprentices from the chill that seeps through the college’s walls. Novice’s robes are gray. After choosing an area of specialization in their third year, students begin wearing colorful robes which identify their chosen discipline. The faculty’s robes are distinct from the students’, with wider sleeves, liripipe hoods, and velvet trim.
