Hi anon, thanks for the ask and sorry for the delay! Of course you can but how dare you leave off our Goofy and also Viiiin. I've got quite a few hc floating around (latest one here for almost everyone). Let's do committed committed though.

Do I have to mention that I hc most of the Lookism guys as romantics in their own way?

Lookism Boys in committed relationships (longer term etc.)

The usual - Sammy, Jake, Gun, Eli, Goo, Vin

Samuel Seo

Being in a committed relationship, or really a relationship at all isn't something he has thought much about but with the right person it can work.

He wants the whole thing - engagement, marriage, kids.

Proposal would be something more traditional and romantic than you would expect.

Likely booking out the fanciest restaurant, enjoying a candlelit dinner followed shortly with Sammy down on one knee with a diamond ring the size of your fist.

Honestly, everything would be a little bit of a spectacle. Used as much to express his love to you as well as his power and status so it's not going to be quiet or chill.

Wants someone that will stay by his side and wants all the formalities to go with it.

The piece of paper saying you're legally married, in sickness and in health, for better or worse would mean a lot to him, though he would never express it.

As always with this guy, fingers crossed he's had a buttload of therapy especially before any kids come along.

Jake Kim

Hmm, let's leave anything longer term until after he retires from Big Deal.

Obviously a romantic, though he does not want a repeat of his dad, where he leaves you at home and he's off gallivanting doing gangster shit.

It goes without saying but to clarify: Jake is a one woman man. If he's in a relationship with you, nothing will ever make him turn his head.

Like Sammy, wants to experience everything with you by his side. The marriage, the kids, the growing old together.

As the head of Big Deal though, he knows that he would not be able to give you the attention you deserve.

Doesn't ask you to wait for him, he could never get in the way of your happiness though he desperately wishes that you would.

And of course you do, it's Jake!

Meeting his mother, that force of a woman, wife of Gapryong Kim, might be the most intimidating experience of your life. You leave in awe and a little in love with her yourself.

Gun Park

Actually did think marriage would be on the cards, although one of convenience rather than love.

(It would come as a very pleasant and welcome surprise that his life turns out that way.)

If it was an arranged/convenient marriage then you'll barely see him tbh. And he would expect an open marriage.

If Gun loves you, then this guy is traditional as hell in a committed relationship, and a romantic too.

Will get you a gifts sent to your work, bouquet of roses, or just buy you something because it reminds him of you. Remembers anniversaries and make sure there is something special prepared.

That antique necklace you said you liked in passing? It's on your pillow the next day. That place you said you wanted to see? You're going that weekend.

Yes to engagement, yes to marriage, yes to kids.

The proposal would be something very specific and sentimental to you both. The wedding, less so. He has a lot of customs he would need to follow being head of the Yamazaki Clan and Gun being who he is.

With kids, doesn't matter what gender, Gun would mould them to be his masterpiece.

Eli Jang

Quite honestly didn't expect a long term or committed relationship to be on the cards. (He should really be focusing on Yenna instead of gallivanting around playing loan shark with 5A - ahem).

Most responsible parents would take a while before introducing you to their kid, but with Eli - has the vibe that oh shit something has come up with 5A and will dump Yenna on you.

What can I say, it's been obvious that this guy's logic and critical thinking isn't his strong point.

Doesn't really care for all the formalities of long term relationships, the expectation of marriage but isn't opposed to it. Besides, it would be good to have the extra bit of added stability for Yenna.

Would have a small intimate wedding with just the nearest and dearest.

Likely to also get a couples tattoo too (have you seen the H on his FOREHEAD? That guy is BOLD.)

Can't imagine him actually wanting more kids, the first time round was traumatic enough.

However, if you really want more then he will consider it. Especially because it would be pretty cute for Yenna to be the older sis.

Goo Kim

Hard to get this guy to commit to you in the first place. He generally only has one thought: mind on his money and money on his mind.

Will be hard for this guy to admit his feelings for you, and whether he truly misses you or if it's just his clingy nature.

Once in a relationship, expect to be spoiled. What's the point of making all this if you can't enjoy it? And even though the gifts might not be to your taste (and in all honesty, pretty ostentatious), it's the thought that counts.

With long term plans, Goo is pretty easy-going and happy to go with the flow.

If you want to get married, just say the word. A little backyard wedding or hiring the most expensive wedding in Seoul - go for it.

Want a lil sparkle on your ring finger or none at all, also fine too.

Hint: best wedding present for him? Get him some swords.

Fence-sitter with kids, but if you want them then he can be swayed. Let's just enjoy more of our youth and our freedom first.

Vin Jin

Ahhh he's a secret cheeseball. Although maybe it's not so secret. He is SOFT for you, in his own standoffish way. Thinks he's cool about it but it's obvious to everyone.

Doesn't think too much long term and doesn't feel the need to get married. He's committed to you, he shows you, he tells you and feels that that's enough.

More likely for you guys to get hitched with a quickie wedding where you may or may not be drunk.

And then the morning after and nursing a hangover, Vin thinks huh. This is sorta nice.

You guys don't really do the engagement ring or wedding ring thing. There'll be something just as sentimental like a couples necklace.

Besides, who wouldn't be able to tell you're together with your constant couple outfits.

Kids? Ehh. Vin likes the idea of them but not the responsibility. If it'll happen, it'll happen.

Here’s a few modern day hcs I have for her: (There’s A LOT so I’m putting it under the cut)

- I like to think that Pyrrha started exploring gender expression quite young, wearing skirts and dresses when she was like 6 or 7, realizing that she’s comfortable in both ‘girly’ clothes and ‘boy’ clothes, painting her nails, etc. and I like to think that Thetis and Peleus were very supportive parents, always asking her what she wants to wear for the day, protecting her from bigots whenever they go out, asking her what she wants to be called when, etc.

- She picked out her name from a magazine when she was like 9, I have the cute image in my head of her flipping through one of Thetis’ magazines and seeing an ad for let’s say a jewelry company called Pyrrha and she’s like !!! just completely falls in love with the name and adopts it for herself. Thetis and Peleus are very supportive when she tells them of it and hype her up about it ofc, saying it’s very pretty and fits her well etc.

- In modern days, I see her and Pat being friends at a young age too, but I think it takes her a while to actually tell him about her gender identity and it’s hard to hide it. It’s just something very personal and I think she’s just nervous of what he might think. Anyways, she probably tells him she’s genderfluid when she’s around 13 and he’s 14, explaining what it all means and how she feels, her pronouns and her name and ofc it’s scary but Pat thinks it’s pretty neat and accepts her without a doubt, it doesn’t change anything between them if anything it makes them grow closer.

- I think really after high school, she starts experimenting with her style and what kind of makeup she likes

- On that note, I think her style evolves over time and by the time they’re like in their late twenties, Pyrrha wears nothing but classy, luxury brands. I hc that she’s got an easy office job at her dad’s company so trust me she rocks the HELL out of a pencil skirt and $1200 blouse like it’s no one’s business.

- Her favorite colors to wear are earth tones, particularly dark greens.

- She loves to do her make up, I can totally see her at her vanity with a lighted scented candle and a chill playlist just taking her time with her make up, it’s like a relaxing thing for her. But she hates cleaning her makeup brushes so Patroclus sometimes does it for her bc he’s a sweetheart

- Loves loves loves it when Patroclus refers to her as “my wife” in front of other people.

- She loves jewelry, particularly necklaces and has a huge expensive jewelry box (like the ones that have multiple pull out compartments) to keep everything in. Bonus, she always asks Pat to help her with her necklace even though she could easily clip the clasp herself. She just finds something about it really romantic

- I also think it’d be funny if she had a huge collection of sunglasses, like just pairs and pairs of really pretty sunglasses, dark ones, rose gold ones, ones with patterns on the frame, circle ones, etc. She needs a pair for every day of the summer even though she only wears them on top of her head (she argued with Patroclus that it ‘completes the outfit’.

- Would it surprise you if I said she also has a huge shoe collection (Patroclus loves it)

- Spends more on lingerie than she probably should but Patroclus never complains about their credit card bill bc how can he when their money’s being spent on something so important lmao

- She’s a pumpkin spice girlie and is always trying to get her husband to like it too

- She doesn’t know how to drive, she’s a passenger princess (but that’s fine bc she loves it when Patroclus puts his hand on her thigh while he’s driving)

- She likes to wear her hair up most of the time and has tons of pretty scrunchies that always have to match with whatever she’s wearing.

BONUS:

For the au where she has Pyrrhus I have a few hcs too:

- Okay Pyrrhus is the result of a one night stand, so I like to think that while in Achilles’ apartment at the time, Deidameia saw Pyrrha’s name probably written on a paper put down somewhere and thought it was a nice name so when she had their kid, she changed it around to Pyrrhus for a boy. (Pyrrha actually loves that Deidameia named him that even if it was unknowingly)

- She is very honest and open with Pyrrhus about her gender identity as well and he doesn’t think much of it just like, “oh, okay.” Like it’s not a big deal, you know how kids are lmao

- Three words; soccer mom Pyrrha. The type of mom who out cheers all the other moms in the bleachers, brings in the best healthy snacks (take THAT Susan). + She looks good in her soccer mom outfits

- Pyrrhus insists on getting her a Mother’s Day gift too and she finds it to be the sweetest thing in the world

- The first time Pyrrhus called her mama she nearly cried lol

haha i wanted to make a joke and give you exactly ONE hc i have for them.. but luckily for you, i started making a big hc list yesterday so you’ll get a full set hee hee 💕

this is a continuation from Part I yesterday, which you can read here. aight. let’s do this!

so, from Hera’s side of things, i think she is a very emotional, sentimental being. i think she values commitment, and loyalty, and she actually doesn’t care about superficial gifts like jewellery and things. a simple picnic outside where all the food is handmade, etc. would mean more to her than a 24 ct necklace. (that’s not to say that she doesn’t like getting those things of course- i think after becoming Queen, these things become an indulgence that she appreciates very much, but still not as much as those other actions)

now, one thing i need to mention here is that i don’t think that every god had their domain at this point. i think Zeus, Hades and Poseidon, and Hestia had theirs outlined.. but i don’t think Hera or Demeter did- it was too early. i hc that the “domain chooses the god” not the other way around, though more often than not, it appears that gods have a distinct affinity for certain things like fighting (e.g. Ares, Zeus) , or growing things in barren soil (e.g. Demeter) or perhaps they are able to physically interact with shades (e.g. Hades, Thanatos, later Persephone). but i think with something like “marriage and family”- that’s not really tangible so it’s difficult for that domain to be identified. that’s why i think Hera hadn’t been “assigned” a domain just yet. i also think that Zeus, as King, is the one who “officiates” a god with their domain and blesses them- so like, you don’t really get officially associated unless Zeus approves and gives you that title.

back to Zeus x Hera— i think Hera likes effort. so when Zeus is relentlessly going after her, complimenting her, making her gifts (i think he starts with materialistic things, but slowly starts making things from the heart hee hee like crafting images in the sky with clouds or twisting lightning into spectacular sights) and making a genuine attempt to let her know that he really does love her for real, it catches on to Hera. he grows on her. she starts thinking about him more often than she’d like to.. she can’t help it.

Hera’s apprehension is understandable. even at this point, everyone knows Zeus has a penchant for pretty girls, and most of his relationships are a few weeks at most. and Hera refuses to be just another notch in his belt- she has too much pride for that.

but here’s the thing- i think most of Zeus’ “lovers” are intentional. i mean that he purposefully went out to find these goddesses and have kids with them because Zeus is very in-tune with Fate and knows that as King he needs to bring in strong, wise, role-model gods and goddesses to lead the other gods and eventually mortals.

i don’t think it would be fair to say that that’s Zeus ONLY motivation,, but i do think it’s a large one and i do hc that Hera knows this. Zeus is many things but i don’t consider him to be a liar.

so i do think Hera would have known 100% that Zeus would cheat on her but i think she just loves him so much, she believes she’ll be strong enough to handle it.

Zeus on the other hand, i think does a 180- he loved Hera so much, wanted her to be his wife, but after realising the pain he’ll cause her (no way Hera is going to be single handedly producing every god and goddess thereafter lmfao), decides that he loves her too much and doesn’t want to be the one who causes her that pain. so he refuses to ask her to marry him.

but like i said, i think Hera loves him far too much to let go, and she begs him to be “selfish” and ask her anyways. and Zeus, weak, does. so i think that’s how they got married.

now, Hera’s sacrifice for Zeus is enormous. unquantifiable. she’s gonna be the rock who’s there for him through highs and lows and twists and turns. always. and so Zeus gives Hera the domain of marriage and family because who else embodies commitment and loyalty in the most difficult times more than she?

Zeus x Hera isn’t without it’s fair share of fights and turmoils, obviously. neither Hera nor Zeus is perfect, but i think there’s a reason that they last as long as they do even with all of that- and that’s because in their heart of hearts, i do think they love each other.

can I get some angst Meriwa x Noatak Hc's ?

Like when/how did she learn Noatak ran away? Does she ever learn the truth about Amon and Noatak? Does Amon ever have dream about Meriwa? etc...

I’m kind of bad at head-canons so, bare with me!!

Noatak couldn’t sleep for the first few weeks after he left, and even the months that followed were ever difficult. Usually in the night Meriwa would come over to read stories to Tarrlock and by extension Noatak as well, all with the permission of their parents and her grandparents-… it was hard to say the least not seeing his two favorite people in the whole world before he laid down for bed at night. Sometimes he sings the old Water Tribe song she used to sing to himself to soothe the ache that rises in his chest some nights -… it never helps no matter how much he tells himself that it does.

Meriwa found out that Yakone’s hunting trips were bloodbending lessons long before Noatak had hoped she would-… being an exceptional investigator as well as suspicious of Yakone’s intentions from the beginning. That being said nothing prepared her for losing Noatak the night he failed to return with his brother and father, and while she never gave voice to her fears she had since speculated that Yakone had murdered Noatak. This of course was proven later to be untrue but despite this Meriwa would never forget.

Interestingly enough they first met a little after Meriwa moved to their little village, having been taken in by her grandmothers Ahvi and Parah as her paternal mother Ruhn wanted nothing to do with her, siting her as the blame for her wife [Tisal]’s death. Meriwa hadn’t spoken a word to anyone since arriving before running right into his back chasing a cotton-tailed flying mouse, before looking up promptly only to exclaim ‘you’re so pretty’ and then run away gasping for air.

Upon arrival to Republic City it had taken some odd weeks to hear murmurs of Amon and his supernatural abilities to remove people’s bending, and when they finally met he had destroyed her betrothal necklace, sighting it as childish she had worn it all this time leaving her rather distraught. In his mind this was an attempt to ensure she would never cross his path so he’d never need to remove her bending-… Amon had gone to the lodge that [Korra] was being held in because he had gotten a tip it was his fiancé-ex-fiancé that was being housed there, not his brother nor the avatar.

The ‘injury’ I referred to in and earlier post of head-canons was actually caused by the boat explosion. Tarrlock had lost a hand and scarred a very large part of his body, much the same for his brother and Meriwa; The later suffers partial deafness that makes it very difficult to understand without seeing the persons mouth. Meriwa had learned of his identity about the same time Tarrlock had, and insisted that he away with them-… that they could start over and live the life they envisioned for themselves when they were both just children.

In an additional prompt, after they escape and whisk away to where Nauja [the mother] is still living, Noatak insists on going on a trip to come to terms with what he has done; Meriwa implores him only to ‘come back when he is ready’ but Amka and Cupun who are their relatively mutual friends do not hesitate in demanding Meriwa end this here and now-… Noatak had abandoned her twice now. They are conceived she deserves better than a man-child who runs off the second he faces emotional turmoil while Meriwa insists upon having faith in him and giving him space. Said space turns into a spiral and by the time he does return Meriwa is gone (thought it’s because she got spirited away for a little bit not because she caved). Noatak doesn’t know any better and by the time they are back together the thought of losing her again shakes him to his core.

Bonding Trip

Post-canon Xianle trio take on kayaking: MQ in the front, XL in the middle (not paddling), and FX in the back.

Except they keep going in circles.

XL is supposed to be giving orders but fengqing keep clashing 😭

MQ: “Fengxin, I swear to god you better stop telling me what to do - I’m literally in the front and have the best view of where we’re going”

FX: “ok but just because you’re in the front doesn’t mean the rest of us can’t see, idiot. I’m doing my part so I don’t know why the fucking kayak isn’t turning LEFT for some goddamn reason-“

MQ: “oh, so we’re doing the blame game now?”

FX: “does blaming have to be inherently wrong? WE’RE NOT MOVING-“

Meanwhile, XL is staring down the stream and thinking to himself: “hmm, the water is moving faster that way hmm”

It’s a waterfall.

Fengqing: [still arguing]

XL: “waiT gUYS”

Fengqing: [not even listening, not even rowing at this point]

XL whips out the backup paddle and accidentally thwacks both MQ and FX on the head.

XL: “GUYS WE HAVE TO TURN AROUND NOW”

MQ and FX finally seeing their impending doom: “…shit”

Fortunately, all three martial gods manage to row against the current and end back up on calm waters. That is when they finally capsize the kayak because MQ and FX try to take a swing at each other and XL ducks right in time to dodge-

SPLASH! They tip over in a fit of shouts, the last thing heard being: “I hate you SO MUCH!”

It was MQ.

MQ who pops up from the water like a wet cat - NOT a happy camper at all - glaring daggers at FX who bobs up and down a few feet away.

XL is just chilling. At first, he made sure he still had on the necklace with HC’s ashes, but other than that, he didn’t particularly care about what state his clothes or appearance was in.

In fact, as XL is treading the river, he thinks the water is actually kind of refreshing.

MQ: *COMPLAINING AND SCREAMING IN THE BACKGROUND*

FX: *occasionally screaming something back when he’s mentioned*

XL, absentmindedly: “Honestly, the river is kinda refreshing.” 😇

Suddenly, the silence is deafening.

MQ: “the fuck did you just say?”

XL: “I-i just said that it’s not so bad, isn’t it? It was too hot today-”

MQ, popping a vein: “YOU- YOU- Y-“

MQ can’t even collect himself enough to speak. He’s visibly trying not to choke on angry tears, just seriously regretting even agreeing to this so-called bonding activity. (Not really though.)

Minutes later, FX and MQ are still arguing - trying to strangle each other at this point - while XL is floating on his back behind them.

None of them notice how far away their kayak is drifting.

Also, where did their paddles go?

When they finally agree to swim to the shore, MQ is left behind as he isn’t the best swimmer compared to FX and XL.

It’s only after telling FX, “At least we’re still together, which equals good memories,” that XL looks back-

Right as MQ’s head goes underwater.

“Motherfuc-“

XL gasps in shock.

“GAHH MU QING JUST DISAPPEARED-“ XL exclaims, doggy-paddling in place as he points to where MQ was just seconds ago.

FX also turns around.

“Let’s leave him.”

XL: 😠

FX: “oKAY oKAY LETS GET HIM”

***

So something dragged MQ under.

Merpeople? Water dragons ? Human-like sea creatures? Who knows. But there’s a whole underwater civilization that Xianle trio find themselves in.

The creatures that pulled MQ under were just babies and thought he was pretty, so they kidnapped him. XL manages to communicate through body language and is welcomed enthusiastically - somehow he makes friends everywhere he goes!

And then one of the sea creatures tries to wife FX up. FX is hell-bent on swimming tf out of there, has wanted to leave the moment he was approached.

World’s away, HX feels it in his bones that XL is getting into some shit: “Someone go collect this man.”

It’s him. HX is the one who ends up finding Xianle trio, tracking XL down to say, “Xie Lian, get your ass back to Hua Cheng, he’s worried about you.”

Because the spiritual energy doesn’t work in the underwater kingdom, XL couldn’t inform his husband of his whereabouts. The Xianle tiro + HX begin to leave, but the creatures apparently want them to stay and try trapping them.

HX is not having it.

HX: “not on my watch- or else that one-eyed freak will have my head”

HX effortlessly helps the Xianle trio escape. As they break the surface of the unsuspecting lake, HC is already waiting above shore as he had received a signal from HX hours earlier.

HC sweeps XL up from the water and immediately dries XL’s clothes and body.

“Gege seems to have had quite the adventure today.”

XL smiles up at his husband, leaning in for a warm hug.

“A true bonding experience, haha.”

FX, MQ, and HX: 💀💀💀

HC pulls seaweed from XL’s hair: “I’m glad Gege had fun then.”

MQ pointing at XL: “I’m never letting you plan a trip again”

XL: “ok, then Fengxin can plan the next one! 🥰🥰”

MQ: “absolutely NOT”

FX: “HA, HE GOT YOU GOOOOOD”

HC to XL: “invite me next time too”

XL: “of course, my love” :)

FX: …

MQ: “who’s laughing now”

3. favorite line/scene you wrote this year

pfffffffffff choco why would you do this to me

there’s actually many many many fav lines & scenes i wrote this year - it’d be impossible to choose just one. but for this ask, i shall choose a section that’s from one of my more recent works.

Silence fills the space between them once more. Hakoda looks over to see Aang’s eyes are unfocused. His fingers are clenched around the necklace once more, and Hakoda can’t help but wonder if he hangs on because he’s afraid to let go.

(he knows he had been when he kept Kya’s necklace with him for weeks afterwards)

these two lines are from my Hakoda Adopts Aang fic these sleepless nights we spend (waiting to come home). i actually really enjoyed writing these two lines because it parallels the reasons for why Aang and Hakoda, respectively, can’t sleep at night. it really shows the love that Aang holds on to his people, how he holds onto them because he doesn’t want to lose them by letting go (something something The Guru something something letting go of his love for Katara, whose love is reborn from his love of the Air Nomads etc. etc.). i think these few lines really go into the depth of Aang’s grief and shows how much they mean to him.

but what i really love about this is that it also shows Hakoda’s grief for the people he’s lost as well, the most notable one being Kya, his wife. i shall admit that i used this as an opportunity to invent a new hc about Hakoda: that right after the Southern Raiders attack, he kept Kya’s necklace with him for a few weeks before giving it to Katara and heading off to fight in the war. by showing the two parallels between Kya’s necklace with Hakoda and the Air Nomad necklace with Aang, i wanted to show the parallel between Hakoda’s and Aang’s grief, which is the reason they can’t sleep and serves as the basis for why Hakoda eventually chose to adopt Aang as his own son.

grazing among the stars, just a fluffy little drabble snapshot of Kataang life

everything, a drabble that looks at Aang’s grief in 600-some words

going back, moving forward, a oneshot that looks at the dichotomy between Aang’s relationship with the Air Nomads vs the Gaang

great question! honestly this could be either good or bad, so imma do both!

one... interesting comment i got was on my very first Aang-centric fic the avatar's fear, and it was just someone ranting on and on about Aang’s development in B3. which. yeah. it was memorable because it took me so off guard when i opened my email and saw it lololol.

now, a good memorable comment is one i will never ever forget, and that was on my Katara-centric fic teach me how to live my life (because I can't remember how). in the comment, a poc said that they felt so seen and heard, reading this fic, and it was enough for them to keep trying to find their culture again. it really touched me because it was the fact that my stories have that kind of power, to reach into strangers’ souls and touch them and help them find themselves again. i never would’ve thought my stories had that reach, much less power, to find someone i’ve never talked to before and give them that. it’s really both humbling and empowering to think about.

but as a bonus shoutout to you, choco, your comments on my niche fic see the sky and sea (and remember me) have empowered me so much 🥺 every chapter i love to hear your thoughts, and every chapter, you never fail to make me so 🥺🥺🥺 it’s honestly because of you that i’m even motivated to finish this fic. so from the bottom of my heart: thank you 💖

I read your tags too and omg I'm so glad you liked my redemption arc hc for my lil gremlin boy cjfhfgzjhosvj and wow I don't really interact with a lot of hc on here so I didn't know ppl had tried to just hand magic Zane's actions away with like, chores around the village? ???? What???? That makes no sense, Zane is literally responsible for GENOCIDE I think in a way I'm also letting him off easy with house arrest like wtf. You can't just be like "and then they forgave and it was all okay!!!" Like wtf.

Zane was a nice challenge for me because it shows how reframing certain things canake a character a lot more sympathetic. I mentioned it in the post a bit, but the part I feel is the most inexcusable of Zane's actions is the anililation of Falcon Claw. You can't remove it from Zane's crimes, but you can REFRAME it.

This might totally ruin your good feelings about this hc or make it better, but basically this is a small glimpse of my process into recontextualising characters. I hc that, one: Zane was under orders to destroy falcon claw. It makes sense because FC was the closest village to O'Khasis. They were practically neighbors.

Two: during Aaron's time as lord, FC was going through an economical recession. Similar to how Phoenix Drop was at the start of the series. Except they had a lord and phonix drop didn't. It was going on because of a combination of factors, none of which were Aaron's fault. Lily was a big part of FC political climate going down the drain, actually. I know that Jess probably made her a terrible person in Mystreet due to like, romance and competition reasons so Aphmau and Aaron would end up together, but I like to mirror characters and their personalities etc and it makes sense to keep Lily consistent. Aaron frames her as a good person and never has anything bad to say about her because she's dead and also he was loyal to her and tried his best to be a good husband.

They were arranged for marriage, they didn't marry out of love. Aaron tried to make it work, Lily did not. Lily was a serial cheater and there were big odds that Jacob wasn't actually Aaron's child.

Lily had been planning a coup to take the title of lord of Falcon Claw for herself and had roped the rest of the village into it. Most of the children had been sent away temporarily as a result.

Zane arrives to "visit" the day the coup is planned. The villagers aren't subtle and Zane is really good at politics and listening to/finding gossip (it's considered information and can be useful even though Zane hates having to resort to petty gossip) so he figures out what's going on pretty quickly, and who's behind it.

And he also finds out about how Jacob might not actually be the Lord's biological child.

So he tests it. Aaron would let Jacom play around the village pretty independently since he trusted the rest of the villagers to keep an eye on him. Zane gets him alone and uses one of hisqny relics to test his paternity.

It comes back negative. Jacob is not Aaron's son.

And, keep in mind, the only reference to how an illegitimate child is treated is in his own family. So Zane, feeling bad for him (not gat he realizes it or admits it) kidnapps him. He puts him in this medallion thing, I think there was a mod where you could put pets in necklaces? Yeah he does that.

And then he sends a manmade imp to deliver the relic that will kill the rest of the village.

Zane leaves Aaron alive as MERCY. He thought he was doing him a FAVOR by killing his traitorous village members and his shit wife.

He delivers Jacob off to a couple in the country side who take care of him as their own and pays them off pretty well so they'll take care of him. Jacob grows up to be a NPC villager floating around somewhere in the world. I hc he probably actually moved to Phoenix Drop during their population boom since he probably has a business of some sort and wanted to take advantage of the high traffic in the area, and integrates himself into the community pretty well. Odds are is he goes by Jay instead of Jacob so no one even suspects he might be Aaron's kid.

Anyway, yeah. Does this excuse Zane killing a bunch of people? No, obviously, and when Aaron is eventually resurrected (that will happen, because not letting Jess get away with the clusterfuck that was his arc, my boy deserves justice and a proper developed romance) he doesn't just forgive Zane and call it a day. Aaron was robbed of seeing his kid grow up. He suspected Jacob wasn't his child but loved him anyway. He knew the villagers and Lily didn't like him and tried his best anyway. None of this excuses Zane's actions, but it changes him from a power hubgy monster who kills people for fun into someone who can even take accountability and change.

Anyway, yes, I try my best to keep original character beats and twist them around a little bit. I'm so glad you liked the og hc! I might have gone a bit wild with this response I'm so sorry!!!uenyhsybysnyney

Before we start trigger warning for like, child abuse and torture and shit. Seriously this gets dark. Zane redemption must come at a price >:D

So. Something interesting to me in regards to Zane is how in MCD, He's like, this evil, terrible human being, but in Mystreet, he's like, a semi functional human being who can be a NOT bad person and NOT do bad things. And so I got to thinking.

I don't think Zane was born a bad person.

Personally, I kind of hate the way Jess wrote Zane. Like, yes, evil for the sake of evil is great and all, but like. In season one and two, Zane was this overarching antagonist who was always one step ahead of the cast and plotting and having a good time being a paice of shit.

And then season 3 comes around and now he's a shadow knight, on the run, has PTSD...

Look, I'm not knocking the guy for having PTSD. I'm just saying that the way it's portrayed kind of makes him seem like a whimpery coward. AGAIN, NOT KNOCKING PTSD!!

I think the position that Zane found himself in season 3 was a PERFECT set up for a redemption arc and it makes me SO MAD that it didn't happen.

So I guess I have to do it myself apparently -_-

I've been thinking a lot about Zane. I don't want him to stop being evil. Not right away. So we keep what happened in the first two seasons the same. He's a cackling maniac that has killed a shit ton of people and is on his father's payroll.

And then he dies.

(skill issue lol)

Anyway, Zane is dead. But he's also Zane, so of course he weasels his way out of being dead. And then he gets tortured and is subjected to the same suffering he condemned so many others to yada yada yada PTSD bleh.

Everything seems to be the same so far.

But then he breaks out if the nether. Still, we're on track, right?

He gets captured, he gets expedited to Phoenix Drop, he gets interrogated, it's all the same.

But here we find a canon divergence. Instead of being absolute dumbasses, they don't bring him into the nether. Let's scrap that plot point entirely.

Instead, we're going to let Zane bake in prison for a while!

Here are the main issues that make Zane irredeemable.

1. He's killed like, a shit ton of people, for funsies ig

2. He killed Vylad.

3. He destroyed Aaron's village.

Let's keep those things in mind.

So he's in prison. While in prison, Garroth starts to visit him (along with Travis but shhhh we'll get to him another day) and just. You know. Be angry.

Garroth has seen Zane as a spoiled brat his entire life. He's always been their father's favorite. He's always had everything handed to him on a silver platter. He's always been willing to do whatever it takes for power. He's greedy. He's psychotic. Garroth hates him.

But Zane is Garroth's brother. And Garroth is the type of golden retriever, gold hearted, kind type of character to still love his brother even if he hates him.

That doesn't mean he goes in and is like, nice to him though. Nope. Garroth goes to visit him and nine times out of ten it devolves into a screaming match where Zane antagonizes him the entire time and Garroth yells at him for being a shitty human being.

And then one day Phoenix Drop is attacked and Zane escapes.

They track him down eventually. When they find him, they strike a deal with him. Due to Irene related shenanigans they need his expertise as a scholar of Irene to figure out some more stuff for Aphmau. In exchange, they'll protect him from the Shadow Lord (who he pissed off by stealing one of his soul fragments lol Zane behavior).

Eventually they're able to establish a rapore with Zane. Garroth still gets a migraine whenever they have a conversation. Vylad still refuses to speak to him (oh btw he's visiting from his nether revolution vacation just so u know) and Aphmau still wants to tear out his guts for killing the love of her life or whatever, but he becomes manageable. They can like, stand him. A little bit. Slightly.

And then Zianna gets kidnapped or whatever. So they go rescue her. But when they get back to Phoenix Drop they forget to mention the fact that Zane is like. There and in the wild and not currently killing entire villages worth of people.

So Zianna rolls up to Phoenix Drop and gets jumpscared by her youngest son and also, notably, Zane is NOT happy to see her. He shuts the front door in her face. It's hilarious even though Garroth doesn't think of it that way.

So, now we have our key players all in one place. Garroth, Vylad, Zane, and Zianna.

Let's say they have to all go find an artifact toghether or something and they need Zianna there because it's related to something she knows and they need Zane there because of Irene lore reasons. they go on this mission. One day, they sit and set up for the night, set up bedrolls, whatever. They're lounging around the fire and talking when Vylad eventually mentions his time as a shadow knight in the nether and something about torture.

Zane blinks, and, having not been included in the conversation initially, buts it to say,

"Oh, please. Don't tell me getting tortured by those amatures was DISTRESSING for you. I would have thought father's methods would have given you thicker skin."

The others bristle and start scolding him, of course, because Zane is like, the reason Vylad became a shadow knight in the first place. But Vylad himself, who is very observant and hard to antagonize, latches into something Zane said.

"Methods? What methods?" He says. He says it sharply, too.

Of course, Zane doesn't pick up on this. He just rolls his eyes.

"Don't tell me you forgot. Father had a whole floor dedicated to torture and loved collecting new methods from around the region. I think he even had a historian employed who would research for him..."

"What?" Garroth says, stunned out of his anger.

Zianna has gone silent. So has everyone else, and now they're watching with baited breaths.

"So what? What would that have to do with me?"

And for the first time that they've ever seen, Zane looks... Puzzled.

"What, did he go easy on you? Didn't you talk back to him all the time? Once, after just asking him a question, he had two of my nails pulled. Shadow Knight torture was child's play in comparison," he shrugs, then takes a bite out of his stale price of bread.

There's silence.

Zane looks back at all of them, confused and now kind of pissed off. He looks like he usually does when he feels like he's about to be scolded for saying something crass. Except, that's not what happens. Instead, Vylad looks him in the eye for the first time since Zane killed him, and with the most emotion they've ever heard from him, says,

"What?"

Zane hums.

"Come on. Don't play dumb. He hated you. Im sure he must have sent you to the "torture basement" at least once. You got on his nerves constantly,"

Garroth makes an aborted movement, like he's going to stand up and rush him, but Vylad stops him with a flick of his hand. And then Vylad starts doing what he does best. Interrogating him.

So remember that list, right? Let's reframe a few things.

Zane was not the favorite child. Garroth was.

Garte was a paice of shit. Garte hated Vylad. But he also hates Zane. Why wouldn't he? Vylad was his wife's affair child, sure, but Zane, Zane was Zianna's spitting image.

When Zane was little, he used to take snails and out them in the grass after it rained. He uses to clamor for his mother's pastries just like his brothers. He was a normal child, and he was NOT born a psychopath.

But Garte had a thought, one day.

Wouldn't it be funny... If he made his wife think he WAS one?

Wouldn't it be funny to punish her that way? Wouldn't it be funny to turn Zane into a terrible person, and have her think it was for no reason? Make her think that she birthed a psychopath? How much would it hurt her? How much would she weep?

Garte used to punish Zane for Vylad's joy. One of Vylad's laughs would equal one slap to the face. One side remark in defence of their mother would equal one hour locked in his father's study closet in his office.

Garte turns Zane against himself brothers. And the best part in his mind?

He makes Zane believe that they know about all of it.

He tells Zane that his mother knows about it. That his brothers don't care that he's beaten. That Vylad does things so he gets punished on purpose.

Zane grows up thinking that his brothers probably go through this too. He grows up thinking that his mother just doesn't love him. And so he doesn't say a thing.

Garte starts having him tortured instead of superficially physically abused? He says nothing.

Garte makes him become a priest of Okasis even though the consequence of failing the academy is death? He says nothing.

Garte would encourage Zane to blugeon animals to death and bring them to Zianna and laugh at her horrified face from afar. Garte encourages Zane to say psychotic things while they're eating dinner, and watches as his family becomes more and more convinced Zane is a monster.

Until Zane is one.

But this reframes a few things.

The people Zane killed? It was under orders. He eventually became his father's right hand man. Most of his overarching goals have been in service of his father.

For Aaron's village, we'll stick a pin in that one, but long story short, Aaron's village had been planning a coup that night under his wife's orders. Zane had them killed under his father's orders so they could eliminate them as political neighbors. He let Aaron live out of pity.

And Vylad.

Basically, remember when I said that Garte used to punish Zane according to Vylad's actions?

One day, Vylad gets into an explosive argument with Garte defending Zianna. And Garte, again, without the other's knowing, has Zane tortured. Except this time it's for a WEEK STRAIGHT.

So when Zane gets out. He's. Very unstable.

And then he comes across Vylad in a semi secluded area.

And Vylad is acting like he did nothing, and all he's ever done is make Zane suffer, and Zane hates him hates him HATES HIM--

And so he snaps. And he kills him.

Keep in mind, though, Zane thinks this is all normal. He doesn't realize that killing his own brother has traumatized him. He doesn't realize that he's a victim of abuse. He doesn't realize that what his dad did is not okay because he THINKS HIS FAMILY KNOWS WHAT HAPPENED, and if they didn't contradict his abuse, then this must be normal. He thinks that Vylad has probably been tortured too. He thinks Garroth is their father's favorite because in his mind he's determined that Garroth not receiving any attention from their father is a GOOD thing because ATTENTION EQUALS TORTURE to him.

And this reframes a few things. His constant bid for power? It's not greed, it's DESPERATION. Power makes him feel safe. Hurting others makes him feel powerful because that's how his father had power over him.

His highly volatile and violent personality? It's l he's ever known. Do you have ANY idea what torture could do to a child? He has severe PTSD. Like, severe and repressed and his outburst are more common when he's uncomfortable or anxious or experiencing any negative emotion, which is often.

Garte took Zane's empathy from him. Turned him against his family. Made him into a monster. With these types of characters, I imagine it would probably be very difficult for them to redevelop their emotions and empathy because if they do that, they would have to face their whole mountain of trauma and the guilt of all the lives they've ruined.

I think eventually, after a lot of work, Zane does eventually regain his empathy. It probably finally sinks in during a small gathering. His mother makes her famous cake. Zane has long gotten used to being excluded during these sorts of things, but then...

His mother slides a plate of cake right in front of him.

Strawberry.

His favorite.

And she smiles at him.

This is probably after they found out about Garte being a peice of shit. Maybe a few months.

All Zane has ever wanted is to be loved. Maybe he didn't know it, but when he takes a bite of his mother's strawberry cake for the first time in decades and the nostalgic taste registers in his brain, something snaps.

And he becomes human again.

And he realizes:

Oh.

I'm a person.

I'm a murderer.

I'm a monster.

Wedding HCs [Part 1]

Wedding headcanons for the lesser talked about ships bc they need more love and I will give it to them.

AquaOrca (Gang Orca x Aquamarina)

Lets ignore the fact that Jade tried to murder Gang Orca when she found out he was dating Aomi and only later came to terms with their relationship.

The wedding would be very beautiful with ocean inspired colors. Kugo's nieces would make all the decorations because they wanna help get ready for their new auntie.

For the dress, it would be inspired by Ariel's wedding dress but with more mermaid theme to it.

Aomi's anxiety rises to an all-time high because she wants the wedding to be perfect and what if she messes up? It's so bad to the point where her mothers literally had to ban any mention or talk of the wedding.

One of Kugo's nephews is the ring bearer and he gets to wear an adorable suit for it.

The day of the wedding, both of them are so excited to see each other and want to touch each other so bad but they can't because they aren't allowed to be near one another.

Jade sings a cover of one of Aomi's songs as she walks down the aisle. Everyone is in awe at how beautiful Aomi looks and even Kugo himself is brought to his knees at his wife.

Kugo has to pick up Aomi to kiss her bc he is tol and she is smol. Either way, it's a beautiful, romantic sight.

Also their rings are references to each other. Jade's has a killer whale on it and Kugo's has a clam shell bc he calls Aomi his Venus (and Venus emerged from the water in a literal clam shell).

Speaking of Venus, the cake is a parody of the birth of Venus but with Aomi. Needless to say, she's blown away by it.

AquaOrion (Orion x Aquanette)

Contrary to what Sakana believed, Saizo wanted a small, intimate wedding with just friends and family. He don't have time for all the media bravado.

Ageha goes wedding dress shopping with Sakana to help her figure out what she wants. She ends up settling on a beautiful princess style dress with short sleeves.

Saizo is asking his younger brother Gen'ichiro all these questions about marriage and stuff because he got married before him and Saizo needs to be prepared for anything his role as a husband throws at him.

No particular theme but the color is indigo which looks great on the both of them.

They have the wedding at a nice place not too far from the seashore. As Saizo and Sakana kiss, a dolphin jumps up over them and it makes for an iconic wedding photo.

The cake is shaped like a seashell and is decorated with crystal candies.

DemoCat (Demoman x Black Cat)

This one goes out to @calciumcryptid

Akio wants to have a traditional Jewish wedding like his parents did and is trying to get Kuroneko on board with the idea.

As much as Kuroneko loves her baby, she's a) not religious at all/an atheist and b) feels like she'll be appropriating his religion. It's only when his mother and her have a Walter White "We're not done till I say we're done" type of convo that she agrees.

The experience is lowkey kinda harrowing for her because she never really saw herself getting married or anyone wanting to marry her (you can thank Goldeye for that) and now that it's actually happening, she feels all these emotions.

While everyone thought she was going to pick an extravagant wedding dress bc it's Kuroneko, she actually chose a rather simple looking one with black lace.

Either way, Akio thinks she looks absolutely beautiful.

Day of the wedding, Akio's mom gives Kuroneko a pair of hamsa hand earrings and a necklace with the same symbol. When asked what it meant, she was told it was a protective symbol in the Jewish faith.

Freaks out a little when she gets lifted up in the chairs by Akio's mother, his aunt, Suzy, and June at once.

StellaNox (Stellara x Nox)

Even before the wedding is announced, Taiyomi and Tsukimi already leaking shit to their friends and husbands like their name is TMZ.

Much like AquaOrion, both Umeji and Hoshimi wanted to their wedding to be private and intimate, especially with the presence of the Yonaga inner clan (though that'll be hard with the younger Sorakami sisters).

There's really nothing for them to worry about since they have experience with weddings.

Hokuto is the ring bearer and Hoshiyo is the flower girl. Meanwhile Kureko gets to be the "blessing boy" or he gets to bless Hoshimi's entrance into both the family and his life as his stepmother.

Hoshimi chooses to wear an elegant, dark blue wedding dress with stars embedded into it. It's different than her previous wedding dress, the one in which she married her first husband in.

They have the wedding in the afternoon and the party at night.

Umeji makes a toast to his new wife and makes a speech about how much he loves her and how she's lifted the darkness from his heart. For the first time in many years, people see Hoshimi become visibly flustered.

Taiyomi and Tsukimi take pictures of that and posts it to their social medias.

I loved your kya’s daughter hcs! Could you maybe elaborate more on her relationship with iroh 2?

a/n: this is more of like, background hc’s about how they meet and end up together but if you guys want me to actually write a piece about them let me know!

*based off of these hc’s

Kya first sent you to start training with Lord Zuko when you were five. Being a water bender, she could only keep up with your bending for so long before she had to get you a proper instructor

Training you was quite a challenge for Zuko due to the fact that already your bending had begun to take on a unique form. There were no fire bending techniques at all in your bending, but rather water and air, so it would take some time for him to get your bending on track and in control

Because of this, he offered to have you and your mother stay at the palace while you completed your training

And that’s how you soon became introduced to his grandson Iroh

There wasn’t any attraction when you first met, what with you being five and Iroh already being eleven and a half at that point. But he was always so kind to you and took you to the best parts of the palace to play

He also helped with your training, practicing with you and showing you all that he knew. If a session was particularly rougher than usual he would always make sure to patch you up and reward your efforts with a treat that he may or may not have swiped from the kitchen

He became a friend and somewhat of a protector to you, and you’d be lying if you said you hadn’t developed a silly little childhood crush on him. He was very handsome after all and strong, but it was purely innocent and part of your adolescence

You spend five years training with Zuko and alongside Iroh. By the end of it you’re one of the strongest benders he’s ever encountered. The different bending forms paired with your strength and agility make you a worthy opponent, and there were a handful of times where you even bested his grandson during your sparring sessions

However, now that you’ve completed your bending it’s time to return home before continuing your travels around the world with your mother

You make sure to give Zuko a big hug, thanking him for all that he’s done for you and expressing your gratitude for training you

Saying goodbye to Iroh is a little harder. You’ve gotten so used to being around him that it’s going to be difficult adjusting to his absence, but he assures you he will always be there if you need him and that you’re always welcome to come back and visit him. You depart with a hug and a promise to see each other again soon

Traveling the world makes it easier to forget how much you miss the Prince, and you actually date a few other men (and women if you’re interested) while you’re abroad.

You stay out a bit longer than Kya does, but at the age of twenty five you decide it’s time to return home and join your mother and your Gran Gran in the south

It’s nice to see your family again and have the support you’ve been missing while away, though you feel somewhat out of sorts being a fire bender living in the southern water tribe. It takes some adjusting

Eventually Uncle Bumi comes by for a quick visit which you are absolutely thrilled about because you love your Uncle Bumi! He’s making a stop during his journey to the Fire Nation to meet up with Iroh to discuss some important General stuff

He invites you to come along with him for a fun trip and after making sure your mother and Gran Gran will be okay you accept the offer

You have to admit you’re a bit nervous about seeing him again, you were both kids still the last time you’d been together and you’re not sure what to expect now

The long awaited reunion is very exciting though very emotional after being away from your childhood friend for so long. Spirits, he’s even more handsome now, and that little childhood crush easily manages to sneak back in now that you’re together again

“Y/n! I almost didn’t recognize you,” Iroh smiles, pulling you in for a very tight hug. You’ve blossomed into a very beautiful woman, now all grown up and living your own life of adventure, and he couldn’t ignore the fact that your beauty nearly made him breathless

You both find yourselves spending much of your time together, walking through the palace gardens or out in the market place. You make a handsome pair, something Bumi, Zuko, and Izumi all notice right away

It’s under the moonlight by the fountain that you share your first kiss. You can’t deny the attraction any longer, you’ve fallen in love with your childhood playmate

oh all interesting ty, like bringing up how mitzi's apparent perspectives on these other past/present/future romantic entanglements could speak to her perspective on atlas. one moment that i'm always definitely pondering is that mitzi seems to switch from kind of pushing wick away from further involvement in lackadaisy to going the "what if we're business partners" route after considering a picture of atlas. which sure means something or other, where, pairing it with discussion of the necklace he gave her, i'm wondering if he's not representative to her of the possibility of things improving / being at their best, no matter how unlikely it seems, and if it's possible she does knowingly have more affection for The Concept of him thusly than there was affection when he was alive, especially what with mordecai saying the relationship had deteriorated before atlas died....but either way, he and mitzi still both seem unhappy about atlas having died, which does create more questions about if they even really killed him. nothing unequivocally says that either of them did, while mordecai says mitzi didn't shoot anyone, and it's also this case of like, maybe it's Too Obvious to suppose that they did, although that can always just start looping lol like my previously being like "is wick too nice?? we're looking for that [who runs marigold] candidate" but then it's like, eh, maybe he's just like that, e.g. how you can just keep tacking on a "but maybe that's just what they want you to think lol"

ooh i'm pretty successful at having filed away Lore i came across all of once, but i had Nothing on mordecai's father, save noticing that there's Nothing about him, presumed he was absent one way or another but the illness adds up. definitely supposing that moneymaking opportunities for a woman, who is also jewish, possibly a recent immigrant, evidently not already well off (or her not yet, or only just recently, adult son) are limited, and would continue to be, so it seems plausible mordecai would also continue to send money (whether, similarly, viktor had been doing this too for his family, who like, have his address and all, just as plausible if not more, since it's his wife and daughter rather than mother and sisters)....mordecai like so many other characters seems to be here for lack of other options rather than specific ambitions, but i'm sure that getting more money for his family could be its own motivation, and while i'm doubting that [embezzling???] is like, The Key to why/how atlas died, or even necessarily happened at all, it just sure seems notable that he Probably did it once (although that's not guaranteed. he really could've been someone else's fall guy through combination of being just some rando & maybe also someone nobody likes lmao, make the low-level bookkeeper autistic kid the scapegoat, we've all been there) and he seemingly did some bookkeeping at lackadaisy, And it would just be funny if he did it again, and also (maybe) precedented....and the fact that, whatever they might do with it, embezzled funds would just then be more Detached from atlas's control. mitzi probably didn't exactly have her own bank account or anything; she could buy her own cameras the more cash she had on hand....sure feasible they both have / had Mixed Feelings about atlas, but yeah it does seem like there's enough positive regard / regret about his death to call into question Why they were involved, and How, e.g. that yeah maybe neither of them killed him / planned to. the way they talk about it does imply that they would both consider it ideal if atlas was still alive; i definitely have no especial hcs about exactly how mordecai feels/felt about atlas, but i would for sure not suppose "murderously" nor "not positively" lol....a factor for sure to consider could just be that [mordecai's involvement w/atlas / lackadaisy surely went on for most of a decade] also means he just grew up in that time lol, the "redivivo" page title presumably having the literal [restored to life] meaning like, i'm sure atlas on the train sure Was like wow this guy giving you your life back when you were as good as dead, but maybe the windfall of atlas stepping in and taking charge of mordecai's life felt more stifling just by virtue of being older and not so much trapped on a train seemingly facing your demise....though evidently not like he wanted to try to escape the work he was doing, since he stepped into doing it for marigold, so still just file that under "well, mixed feelings maybe" lol

and that there could be entire multiple unguessable elements also involves sheer chance / events Not necessarily thematically resonant or anything. like maybe atlas happened to slip on mitzi's discarded banana peel and fall onto a stalagmite and she and mordecai are like =0 =0 while atlas is like "my dying wish is that you make it look instead like maybe i was killed by rival bootleggers so it's cooler"....but seriously folks. the "why these two, precisely, rather than maybe mitzi and anyone else" is sure a whole part of the mystery. Maybe b/c of something spontaneous or coincidental, but they do seem aligned enough regarding regretting atlas's death, or at least sure not being happy about it; they were both privy to a lot; and mordecai may also have had some personal investment in atlas of some kind of another too, akin to how mitzi's now professional ties to lackadaisy sure started off as like, professional for 5 sec turned personal; doesn't make sense for all mordecai's motivations to be Just Business concerning either lackadaisy or marigold

oh and also yeah mordecai seems to be pretty honest in what he says, if at times evasive, so i too imagine if he's gonna meet with drago it's like, are you just gonna play it straight cards on the table bold move style? but that yeah will he even consider that when he's also probably got outstanding warrants / wanted status and what all. yet he's gotta continue to pursue things somehow....plus, maybe it's just that she's already got her hands full, but there's the potential questions like, why's he so pressed about this while mitzi's like "yeah i dunno. whatever" lol

non post here just collecting current thoughts abt the [what's up with atlas' death and the unlikely connection of mitzi and mordecai through some shared secret relating to it] mystery specifically

firstly i'm tending to presume that mordecai did just shoot atlas; he definitely knows that mitzi did Not, "she didn't shoot anyone"....which also i suppose does not necessarily mean that mitzi didn't kill him. it's possible she did, or mordecai did, or someone else did, and by some non [noscoped by mordecai] method, but that mordecai and mitzi then coordinated in covering up how he actually died by, say, quickly staging some kind of other scene, including shooting him while he had only recently died. but really the mystery here is like, what exactly would these two feel so aligned in cause about. doesn't seem like, say, mitzi could've just paid mordecai to take atlas out, b/c mordecai would either not want to do it Or he actually would, in which case why not do it himself, and earlier, since he was at lackadaisy for surely the better part of a decade. it could've been like "with our combined talents imagine how nearly competent we could be" with mitzi having some kind of key knowledge to plan this heist (murder) or something. but it would still require an Alignment between them of wanting him dead Now, and, y'know, why

their particular similarities that we know of, imo, are that they're probably about the same age (supposing mitzi's around thirty / early thirties) and that they're sort of especially Materially Beholden to atlas and more directly, individually collected by him (versus, say, zib saying he's a collected stray because he'd stay around if mitzi did. he's also a saxophonist which is lower stakes than your new wife or your new guy to kill other guys)....neither mitzi nor mordecai seem to posthumously dislike atlas, but naturally mordecai's barely indirectly commented and it seems to me like mitzi regards atlas fairly symbolically, as the potential for her situation to improve, or at least be as good as it was during lackadaisy's heyday. she may have affection for him abstractly, and we also know via mordecai that the marriage was distant enough before atlas died that mitzi didn't live with him and things had Visibly Deteriorated. it sure seems plausible that mitzi might kill him to inherit things, and turned to mordecai for his expertise in a) doing that & b) perchance making it look like an accident / covering things up, but he evidently didn't want to stay on at lackadaisy No Matter What, i.e. if mitzi was running it instead, and why agree to this, it seems very unlikely he'd do anything just for mitzi's sake or the sake of being paid to do it by her, he has to have his own motivation. and it's possible that, despite plausible positive feelings about atlas still (who did also like, throw him right into mortal perilously dangerous work w/little experience lol, mordecai happening to be immediately good at it or not) he could've, like mitzi could've, still wanted to be less beholden to this one particular person, and achieved that by just killing him lol....but even if their feelings Aligned on that matter, there's a few wrenches, like a) how would they realize this alignment. they're probably not having heart-to-hearts. they're both very close to atlas (at least professionally, for mordecai) and it would be very bold to go "would you happen to wanna kill this guy too" either to his wife or his right hand gun hand hook car door man.

there's also the fact that: viktor is Also someone very limited by his being beholden to atlas, pretty much positioned as close to atlas as mordecai since they were partners, and maybe has the added bonus of seeming marginally more Approachable than mordecai, plus that like, being thirteen years older and beat up on more, maybe if you were looking for an accomplice you'd figure that "idk do you want to retire" would also make him marginally more likely to get aboard murder plans if you're just trying to Find someone to help with that who you don't know would already want to. but he also disagrees with the idea that mitzi is particularly vulnerable / isn't herself at least somewhat dangerous, which seems like something he Might have any knowledge about beyond "idk i just get that vibe," like, did he get to be privy at all to whatever went down there. &/or led up to it.

what seems to be implied here, and makes more sense, is that there was some specific event that both mitzi and mordecai consider to have been unfortunate / undesired / things going wrong, and that involves mitzi enough for mordecai to blame her / her to refer to it being her fault, although she may not necessarily agree. (and does "perhaps i will / not to discount your culpability" imply mordecai Also considering himself culpable. whether that goes beyond "if anyone actually shot him, it's mordecai")

but while maybe there's not much love lost between these two, neither seems to like completely hate the other. civil enough one-on-one here, does seem like mordecai would be negatively affected if viktor had died, "very little interest in defending her" is not "no interest" nor "less than no interest and one can imagine mordecai is being both precise and accurate about what he means, and to exit this car chat by advising mitzi fix the conspicuous bulletholes is, in fact, helpful; he's probably not actually interested in / intending to personally dismantle lackadaisy or anything, and makes sense if mitzi's lashing out just a bit while they discuss sore topics (again, seems neither of them Wanted to have to kill atlas either, so what was the specific impetus....) and also they did just have Lackadaisy's Big Night involving foes that have guns while they (almost entirely) don't, thanks to mordecai's transference of those....which, like, did he just do that himself, or was it on order from marigold....either way, seems more like a nudge like Retire Bitch to everyone there, rather than an effort to sabotage them That perilously

there's also this compelling material

not interpreting Bonus Material as the strictest of canon, in some cases more obviously [not at all] than others, ft. generally more of a light tone / elevated humorousness....but also the not obviously complete jokes ones perhaps not Not canon contradictory, either. a) i want to see the shopping trip and b) fascinating how they are outright discussing that mutual Material Beholdenness to atlas. but a couple of other points arising

one being that i was racking my brain like "whaaaat are the usual Murder Mystery Motives" and then landing on "money" wherein like, besides the theory of "what if mitzi just wanted to inherit lackadaisy, while still Actually Married to atlas despite that maybe circling a drain / maybe atlas, being warned about something by asa, was going to get rid of lackadaisy from his inheritable estate," it also occurred to me like, mordecai originally got in hot water as a bookkeeper, which leads me to presume that he may have been embezzling (though maybe he was the fall guy for someone else's embezzlement, or maybe even some third or fourth things, not even involving embezzlement at all) which, if he was, was presumably for his family, whom he left money for (though he also maybe had to skip town too quickly to retrieve it anyways). and there we see that mordecai may have also been bookkeeping for lackadaisy, too, which i'm going to interpret as perfectly canon backstory. i guess this isn't exactly so different from previously mentioned ideas/elements like "both of these two are aware how beholden they are to this one specific guy, and would like to be less so (through embezzling??)" and "this could be about mitzi wanting to inherit lackadaisy much sooner than later (or not at all)" like, still wanting more of some resource atlas has sooner than later (or not at all....see questions of how much mitzi could have been legally considered to Directly possess while atlas was alive, such as, money) with the same kinds of questions raised of like, how would they realize they aligned on this. there's also a question of like, Would mordecai be moved to elevate the flow of funds here versus just whatever he's already paid, though he'd (maybe) already done that in that original bookkeeping gig for whatever reason. but that may have been more time sensitive and motivating if it was indeed at least in part for his family. which i suppose it could still be Now w/the theory of him just turning around and doing that again. wherein i suppose the idea here is just that they're both in on it, and maybe atlas finding out about it / suspecting too much is such a potential impetus like, whoops, well let's kill him :/ hypothetical 2 for 2 lack of embezzling stealth lol

the other more tangential idea here is just that like, well who knows, maybe mitzi and mordecai Did talk / have tête-à-têtes / an unlikely friendship or friendly acquaintanceship going....again that like, even as professional mostly enemies now and with no especial warmth evident between them, they also don't seem to hate each other even though they Could, even when it comes to this secret re: atlas's death that they're both unhappy with....a lot of writing this stuff out is just how it helps get ideas together lol and not lose entire threads / have derailed trains of thought. like maybe mordecai Would do something mostly for mitzi's sake, if evidently at all begrudgingly. and i suppose the other way round could be considered, i.e. if mitzi would begrudgingly commit to helping kill atlas for mordecai's sake, which still seems the less likely arrangement

oh wait Also i sort of rotated freckle & mordecai juxtaposition, as not being entirely dissimilar, see for one: their having the ideal time the one occasion they were in the same place, that is, completely declining to interact with each other at all lol....but i'm presuming the Mystery of freckle's secrets & backstory are a bit less deep than this more central atlas murder secret, and my interpreguess is that freckle accidentally(? probably.) killed someone(? or almost did. or whatever.) probably his dad(? family tragedies....his hat is still on the premises....) and rocky took the blame, which i'm guessing is out of just being the effective older sibling / pretty close. so i was just half wondering like, well what if mordecai killed someone too rather than being in shit over embezzling. maybe! and how this ties in is that i'm also considering, like, maybe any of this has to do with that Past that mordecai has. the arbogasts were saying atlas Settled Some Of mordecai's pursuing grievances....maybe Lackadaisy Embezzling could be about settling even more via financial payoffs. or something. just a potential troublesome loose thread

there's also the Mystery of "what's marigold bothered about. is what's changed there being this lawful prohibition agent you can't pay off and could somehow shut marigold down longer than ten minutes. and who's in charge of marigold" which is relevant b/c the mystery to me is that, where we leave off in the comic, mordecai is Very Motivated by "how does it figure in re: atlas's death" still and at this risktaking crossroads about it wherein he's clearly positioned at odds with marigold. what are the important things called into question. if marigold knew how atlas died, what would they even do about it. is the problem "well mordecai how do i know you won't also shoot Me, the mystery owner of marigold," seems like something he could expect to be more directly confronted about rather than [what, if marigold knows more about atlas's death and is Just displeased with mordecai about it, they're gonna either Not say anything about it or just try to get rid of mordecai by giving him this hands-on work where he Might be killed?] like, just kill him, And the fact we know the prohibition agent drago Was planning to meet with gracie grombach (and his lawyer, presumably the guy mordecai hatcheted to death just the other night at the start of things) for real, so there's actual reasons to assign him these killings....seems like it's more about things Missing to us as readers about Why they felt they had to begrudgingly kill atlas, what their further mystery connection is / what that impetus was....

oh and back to that [very tangential] tangent re: how i wouldn't have figured mordecai and mitzi interacted much But Maybe They Did, i also before now was assuming that, at least b/c mordecai's business was either in the most dangerous &/or most mathematical work at lackadaisy, he wouldn't have interacted much with ivy, who would've been all of around ten or so when he started there. the pilot specifically illustrates the results of his history with lackadaisy by having him entirely refrain from taking the shot when aiming at her, which i'm also sort of [bonus material]esquely interpreting as "not comic canon noncompliant," but at first i was like, well, like how viktor is protective of ivy / playing concerned patriarch as she puts it, and we know he has a daughter maybe around her age, we also know (from bonus material) that mordecai has younger sisters, including one feasibly also around ivy's age. or just that if you've known someone since they were like 9 or something, you're still reluctant to shoot them. but now i'm Noting that a) most everyone else who's been around awhile, mitzi, viktor, even rocky, has commented on mordecai, but ivy hasn't, which may be a bit Mysterious, and b) in her nightmare sequence moment, she sure not only has this Concept of him, but interacts with him in the dream

which might not mean anything really, but sure might imply she'd talked to him readily enough before, and does also serve as a bolstering / reminder of the idea they'd have interacted, especially since there's the entire factor of "if she was interacting with viktor, this would probably involve all the more mordecai adjacency" like well, interesting, noted, etc

oh and it has to also be mentioned how i'm supposing that also what the savoys are saying about mordecai and atlas, via indirectly framing it by discussing how maître carrefour Already Knows mordecai, can be taken as accurate / is not going to be contradicted. so there's how mordecai seems to resent being called the kind that turns on his partners on a dime (while the savoys Probably had a more uncomplicated departure from their earlier associations. though maybe if marigold knows mordecai was involved in atlas's death, he's Also been hired rather than having been shot, in a stroke of generosity)....and then there's the very broadly relevant description of how, once you take that one path laid out for you, you're Obliged To Him Only, Always, the other paths gone forever....the way pretty much everyone involved was in a place with especial vulnerabilities and limited options at the start, and taking one available path left them kind of trapped there / unwilling to get off of it b/c otherwise they're lost again. what might have motivated a couple of people to snuff out their would-be guiding light, when it's not as though they now act as though they'd clearly found some better one....there's also the fact that serafine characterizes their diable as having a hot temper, wonder if that application could be overlapped with atlas too....and it just handily circles around for rooting for this dream team w/mordecai & the savoys; whether the latter anticipate Not sticking around with marigold forever; the fact that it would be quite a surprise if they do assume that for the first time mordecai is, in fact, just having fun tonight; that mordecai sure may be lost in the dark in-between crossroads rn. rooting for them to stay friends no matter what one way or another. mordecai's as much of a wild card as anyone at this juncture really, keep being wild cards together

meanwhile mordecai not knowing what's going on but laying out some of the confusion is helpful but like, well then we definitely are confused too

i'll say too....really i have to imagine that there Is some bigger missing piece in the [Why] of mitzi & mordecai's murder secret that one could only guess at at best, but i think of this as an effort to kind of feel out the shape of What's Missing thusly, figuratively. and this has been an extensive "i dunno" without any epiphanies falling into place along the way but hey lol, laying it out....if marigold already knows about the How atlas died, namely, if mordecai specifically carried it out, you'd think that if nothing's come of that already, he's fine. or maybe he just wants to Know anyways, though it seems as or more risky to Not kill a guy he's supposed to as marigold's professional killer....he says he's not sure if he knows important Things he thought he knew, plural, unsurprising if there's more than one such important thing we definitely don't know, but suspecting that his concerns might have to do with the big mystery Why they killed atlas, which might also align with how mordecai's reacting to asa saying he warned atlas of [something/s] before his death, which sure doesn't otherwise necessarily imply he knows anything about the death itself. and then mitzi, who should also be in the know, is still asking "how does it figure in" re: connecting his death & if asa Did warn atlas of something....i sure don't know either, and you two have so much more info lol

and Does rushing water count as a clue? cue me trying to zoom in on an illustration to see if the silhouette of a figure reflected in mordecai's glasses could be atlas (don't think it was, or that it'd be a Key Clue dropped thusly anyways) like hell i dunno yeah maybe the rivers are relevant somehow in secret ways, that'd fit, but again only guesses. oh and hey, why would mitzi and mordecai have any kind of gun handoff? maybe as like, a burner revolver lol. i always end up going Shruggg at mysteries but i am enriched by rotating them anyways, especially when it's so tied to character here, and when they're not the only thing relevant to ongoing story so it's just intriguing rather than simply frustrating / stifling to not have already solved them / not the only point of interest. e.g. who Knows why mordecai's having his off the shits saturday but it's so fun that he is. good for him (ultimately) (probably) (hopefully)

Like I said with the blessed Wyld elven look, you got your dragon legs from an event on Halloween. Thanks to Ainz carrying you. It come from a form of between a necklace, crown, and ring. Highly sizable, depending how you want to wear the item. Though due to it being from an event, the skills it give out is lacking without any combined items...

For the demon part of the legs, I want to say that this item can be combinable as it's only a metal ring that isn't adorned with jewelry. You got the demonic part of the legs from Ainz after he had worded so many demon stones from a guild boss event long ago, and gave one to you as a Mother's Day gift because how pretty it was. Though the demon stones were only gifted for the top 100 guilds by points.

Your relationship with Jirvcniv is merely on professional standards. He doesn't see you anymore as a trophy wife or a pawn in his game once he released that you are far much stronger AND the mother of Ainz.

He both respects you and fear you, due to your status.

He wouldn't lie though, that he enjoys you visiting him time to time to either talk or play a few games of chess. Kinda just relaxes him from his duties as an Emperor.

Like everyone else, he easily falls into your words that everything is a plan for a much worse best fate for things

Often times, I can't deny the fact that Jirvcniv seems the guy to be much more vulnerable when around very close friends or lover. Y/N was dressed in a simple yet gorgeous white dress that reached just below her knees, giving it a rather elegant look. Her hair were curled into beautiful waves, as she kept her makeup simple and natural. Though she did wear some little gold earrings and necklace, a little set that she had purchased along with a friend of hers from a muggle shop.

She wasn't sure how she was going to walk tonight in those heels since her legs have been wobbly due to her nerves.

She felt arms wrap around her waist and pull her into a warm chest which was covered with expensive linen material. The scent of expensive cologne filled in her senses. She didn't even saw her boyfriend come in.

"You are beautiful." He whispers, looking ber in eyes through the reflection of the mirror. He kissed her shoulder gently, and pressed his lips at the spot where her neck and shoulders meet. "Don't be nervous, mother loves you already."

"Really?" She asks him with her voice laced with astonishment.

Draco smiled at her. "Really. It's impossible for me to fathom how can someone hate you. And in my letters, I always talk highly of you." Draco presses a kiss to her cheek and she turned around and hugged him.

"You are so sweet, my love," she whispered into his chest, just loud enough for him to hear. Draco smiled at her and let them stay like this for a moment before taking a step back.

"Shall we leave, my love?" He asks, adjusting his collar to his comfort.

"Yeah." She whispers and with that they both apparate to the Malfoy Manor.

Draco shuddered as he looked at the manor but when he felt his hand get squeezed, he looked at her, terrified. Y/N gave him a comforting smile and leaned in to whisper gentle words which console him as she pulled him into a hug and let him bury his face in her neck.

Narcissa watched them through the window, her lips curling in a smile when she watched y/n console Draco in a comforting yet graceful manner. She walked away from the window and waited in front of the door.

She glanced around the house for a moment.

After the war, Lucius was taken away to Azkaban for the rest of his life but his wife was spared since she didn't participate in any missions and neither had the death mark.

She had renovated the entire house, getting rid of that horrid black colour replacing it with warm tones of beige. She felt lighter already when she got rid of all the dark artifacts. She felt even better when she changed the look of the Manor.

It was brighter. She could actually feel sunshine grace her skin and she could breath in air without fear. She had started to bake and read more, occupying her free time when she is not busy investing in a few businesses and helping orphanages.

She got cut off the train of her thoughts when she heard a knock on the door. She opened the doors and greeted the couple with warm hugs and sweet genuine smile.

The pleasantries were exchanged and they all went into the living room.

"So how is my son treating you?" Narcissa asks with a smile.

"Really well, Mrs. Malfoy. You have raised a gentleman." Y/N smiles glancing at Draco who seemed to be proud if himself.

"I really hope he has stopped saying, 'When my father will hear about this.'"

Draco groaned, taking a pillow and trying to suffocate himself before embarrassment does.

Y/N laughed at him, shaking her head. "I am sure he will not say that phrase in any other lifetime."

"Good to know that." Narcissa smiles at her and then turns to Draco. "Stop embarrassing yourself, Draco."

"As if you haven't done enough of that." Draco grumbles, sitting up straight as if nothing happened.

"How about you go and check on the steak, dear." She suggests him.

Draco nods, kissing y/n's cheek he got up and left the room while muttering something incoherent.

"Y/N, dear, I would like to say one thing to you." Narcissa begins.

"Please do."

"Draco," she sighed, "he has been oppressed by his father most of his life and wanted to be the ideal son that Lucius wanted him to. He sometimes will not be manageable, he will be stubborn and rude at times. But he will love you despite everything. And by what I see in both of your eyes you both adore each other. Please don't lose faith in him."

Y/N smiled at her. She reached for her hand and gave it a firm squeeze. "Even death can't pull us apart, Mrs. Malfoy. Believe me, I will keep faith in him and it'll take some time but he will change and grow out of any of his antics."

"He is very lucky to have you, you know that?"

"He better be."

The two ladies laughed just as Draco came in. He smiled at them, content in his life with what he had for the first time in his life.

He doesn't need anything but the support of these two women. One who raised him, and one who helped him mature into a lovely human being.

The two of them taught him that money would not matter until he has got love with him. They both slowly made him learn that love for self is the only thing he would need to survive in a cold world.

But perhaps they were wrong for he could not last a day without their love.

Every May the Molina family go to the annual spring street market and Julie always always ends up collecting butterfly centric trinkets. That's where she got the butterfly earrings (in Edge of Great) and the butterfly hair clips (Bright) and the decorations in her locker. Ray and Carlos don't even question her, they know how obsessed Rose used to be with them too. Like mother like daughter.

She takes the boys to the market too and gets Alex a beaded pride bracelet, Luke a music note pendant and Reggie a cowboy hat. The men of the house once again refuse to question her.

She writes Flynn "Flying Solo" a couple months after her mother passes away. It is one of those especially grueling days and she has had enough, tears back in her eyes, tiredness in her bones and Flynn asks her how she's doing, "are you okay?" and Julie just answers a quiet "no." Flynn wastes no time bringing her into a hug, holds Julie in her arms for fifteen minutes straight. Flying Solo spills out of Julie, brimming and all at once, once she gets home. Ray finds her sleeping soundly, tear tracks on her cheeks, hugging the sheet of paper to her chest when he comes to say good night. He tucks a blanket over her and kisses her forehead.

Julie collects sketch books and notebooks but never uses half of them because she doesn't want to ruin the crisp white pages until she has something important to write. Her mother gives her (use to give her) one every birthday just to fuel her obsession.

Rose also gives her the dream box where she keeps all of her music. “When I was little, I had one to keep all of my music in one place and now I’m giving one to you. Hope it brings you the same creativity the one I had brought me.” And for some reason, as if the box is magic, Julie has newfound creativity the minute her palms touch the surface of the box.

Even when Luke - the little privacy invading rat- touches the box to see what kind of songs Julie has written, he finds himself filled with new passion to create kickass music with Julie. That’s what gets him and Reggie excited to develop the instrumentals for “Flying Solo.”

Trevor has a huge soft spot for Julie. Ray, Rose, Trevor and his wife, Ashlyn, used to have whole picnics when the girls were little. That’s when Carrie and Julie got super close. Trevor taught Julie how to play a riff on the guitar when she was in middle school. But she never got to learn more...

She played trombone all of grade 6 and middle school and she is fantastic at it. (Yes, this is me projecting). She can also play the tambourine, triangle, ukulele, clarinet and of course, the traditional piano and keyboard. But her biggest and brightest instrument is her voice. When Carlos was a (fussy) baby, she sang for him and he would quieten immediately. Mrs. Molina always said that one day, Julie would sing into a microphone and everything would shift right into place. She was right.

She's learning the violin from Patty, one of the violinists from Music class, because she promised Reggie she would learn how to fiddle for their one-off country album.

Julie glows sometimes. Like glows. During band practice but none of the boys know how to approach the topic. Like what do they say? "Julie, good practice, but hey, you were glowing around the edges like a whole freaking sun during the chorus. Didn't want to bring it up during practice and don't know if thats normal b- but good practice!"

Julie has shoelaces of almost every colour and loves making lace patterns on her shoes. She's getting really good at the checkerboard pattern and even teaches Alex how to do them on his shoes when she sees him going through his bout of anxiety one day. Willie catches Alex's shoelaces when they are hanging out together and begs him to teach him. Basically, by the end, everyone has cool shoelace patterns.

Julie doesn't notice it right away but after the initial grief of her mother passing, she swears she sees dahlias everywhere. It almost feels like they are taunting her, haunting her but after a little while, she searches for them herself. She realizes whenever she has to make a big decision or can't seem to answer the questions that plaque her, dahlias seem to somehow appear out of nowhere and give her her answers. She is convinced her mother is sending them her way.

She and her mother wrote a total of 22 songs together. About half of them are about getting up and raising your voice (to the rain) anthems and she feels so proud when Luke can't stop talking about how incredibly talented both Mrs. Molina and Julie are because how? How??? Did you even??? Come up with that line?? And rhyme it like that??

The little moon crescent necklace Julie always has on is a gift from Flynn. In fact, every one of the necklaces she has on was given to her by someone she loves dearly (the cursive Julie one was a gift from her mom, the circular pendant was a gift from her dad) and she always has them on because she likes to carry the people she loves with her.

Julie has known Flynn and Carrie for as long as she could remember. They use to live in the same neighborhood (until Carrie moved further away as Trevor got more famous). Julie taught them how to draw frogs in grade 1 and to this day, Carrie, even though no longer Julie's friend, still draws them the same messy abstract way when the circumstance calls for it. She always finds herself smiling when she draws the small tongue sticking out of the frog's mouth just the way Julie taught her.

Julie's middle school selected her to do a mural on the side of the school building. (It was one of the winning aspects of her application to Los Feliz High School). The mural of the curly haired woman flying over the sun still sits on the wall looking as if freshly painted. The painted woman looks like the spitting image of Rose Molina and whenever Ray drives by the school, he's hit with so much love for her daughter and wife.

When Julie was little, she was convinced that one day she was going to be a famous ballerina. She even went to five ballet classes before she fell in love with the next thing. None of her hobbies stuck until she learned how to play the piano.

Historical AU. Fem Hualian.

XL forced into an arranged marriage to an influential noble.

XL was brought up to be the perfect wife only for her husband to pretend that she doesn’t even exist at times. Always expected to take care of the house and all his needs. To pleasure him when hers is neglected. To never ask for things that require too much money or ask to go on dates to places she wants to go to.

XL lies to her parents saying marriage is everything she hoped for.

But it’s really not.

This is not the life she ever wanted.

HC is the jewelry maker who handcrafted the wedding rings and whatever other jewelry XL’s husband had gifted to her.

HC quickly observes that XL is not like the other elite circle of women. While the nobility are puffing peacocks desperate for attention and validation - no care for authenticity whatsoever - XL is a beautiful nightingale who is locked in a cage, yet wishes to sing her sweet lullaby to someone who will listen and cherish it.

HC would do so in a heartbeat.

Stuck at home all day doing chores, XL starts inviting HC over under the guise to commission more jewelry.

But what XL truly craves is HC’s company.

XL is lonely. And San Niang is the only who who seems to want to talk to her. To listen.

What she doesn’t quite realize is that HC will do so much more than that for her.

When XL’s husband is gone on a business trip, XL insists HC should come over every day.

(HC: “Come on. Let’s go out.”

XL: “…to where?”

HC: “Wherever your heart desires. I’ll drive you if I must. How about that bakery you like? Or the gardens?”

XL: “I…really shouldn’t-“

HC: “The night market? I know the vendor selling those blades you love will be there.”

Half an hour later, HC is leading XL to her private carriage drawn by horse E’Ming.

XL barely contains her blush when HC opens the door for her and assists by holding out a slender hand.

XL dresses very modestly at all times. Long-sleeved robes and dresses that skim the ground. High-collared blouses and close-toed shoes. Just numerous layers of clothing.

HC wants to respect her. SHE DOES.

But seeing just a sliver of porcelain skin makes HC’s heart speed up.

XL’s bared nape when her hair is clipped up.

A flash of toes when XL changes slippers, sometimes delicate ankles if HC is lucky enough.

When testing the circumference of the new necklace HC is making for XL, her fingers brush against the soft skin of XL’s neck.

Both of them pause with wide eyes as XL’s entire body involuntarily shudders.

XL has never felt so sensitive in her life. And she’s married to a man, for heaven’s sake.

HC occupies XL’s mind daily now. But it’s hard for her to contact HC without her husband getting suspicious.

Still, HC is somehow always there for when XL is upset, especially if it’s because of her husband.

Then comes the discovery that XL’s husband is a cheating piece of scum. The hickeys that XL most certainly did not leave. The foreign perfume scents. The random nights he disappears and returns the next day with flowers, as if to make it up to XL.

It’s the final blow and confirmation that he doesn’t value the wife he has at all.

When XL breaks down in front of HC the next time they see each other, HC instantly engulfs XL in her arms and holds her right.

“He doesn’t deserve you, Xie Lian. Not one fucking bit,” HC snarls out. They sit side-by-side on the loveseat in the living room. But XL’s body twists to hug HC’s middle, her head resting on HC’s sternum. “What can I do to help?”

XL sniffles, shaking her head.

“San Niang has done enough already. Just…being here is helping. I really love…I love…”

She trails off. Doesn’t trust her voice to not ruin what she has with HC.

God forbid she loses HC too.

Except strong arms lift XL up to place her in HC’s lap. XL’s breath hitches, her hand finding purchase in HC’s shoulders. She stares down with teary-eyes.

“San Niang?”

One of HC’s hands support XL’s waist while the other cups her cheek, thumb caressing the warm skin.

“Jiejie…” HC starts, mismatched eyes glancing up at XL with unbridled affection. “I also…love…”

XL blinks once. Then twice.

“You…?”

HC nods, smiling.

God, she’s always had the most attractive smile that made XL’s insides curl in on themselves.

XL’s face crumples. She rests a hand on top of the one holding her cheek, leaning against them.

“A broken thing like me?” XL asks as a tear slips out the corner of her eye.

“A soiled thing like me?“ HC responds with the same vulnerability, voice cracking.

XL sobs as she leans down to connect their foreheads.

HC finally guides XL down to gingerly press their lips together.

“This tenderness…” XL briefly thinks as she kisses the woman below her. “Something I’ve been searching for my whole life…finally.”

Now a few months later, XL has been avoiding any sort of physical interaction with her husband at all costs. But she can only do so much when everyone - including her parents - are pressuring them to start a family as soon as possible.

With an aggressive kiss and unsavory grope to her backside, XL’s husband had left with the promise to impregnate her when he got back.

When XL tells her true lover how worried she is for what is to come, HC cradles her close in the guest bedroom, kissing the top of XL’s head.

“I can get you out of here, jiejie. Just say the word, and I will.”

XL traces HC’s nose with her finger. The moonlight spilling through the window makes HC’s irises glow.

It also illuminates the butterfly engravings on the new ring HC had crafted: one XL wears when her husband is away.

A different ring, embodying a different promise, shared with the one who makes XL feel like she’s soaring in the sky without any fear of falling.

There is someone to catch her if she does.

“Anywhere far from here,” XL requests, nudging her nose against HC’s. “Just take me with you, San Niang. You are all I need.”
