Of course, Peter said yes to being a double agent. Because if he became a Death Eater, he would be closer to Bella. And that’s what it came down to, impressing the Dark Lord, and by extension, Bellatrix.

It wasn’t enough that he had been a successful double agent for years, it wasn’t enough to be on their side. To get Bella to love him, he had to do something big. A grand gesture, if you will. She would surely leave her husband for him if he demonstrated his power and dedication.

He gave up one of the first people he had been able to call a friend. Someone who trusted him enough to be the secret keeper and protect his family. And for all Sirius had done, he had to pay for his crimes. He convinced Sirius not to tell anyone of the change of plan- he already didn’t trust Remus. He was ripe to be framed. And framed he was. Peter led him to a street full of people, and blew it up. For Bella. For Regulus. For the hell of it.
