Here what I think about the whole situation: the fact that " Sonic can't cry " is a misunderstanding and I explain because , Sonic can't cry in front of everyone because himself don't like show his tears(grief; sadness;angry etc..) in front of everyone if should cry he would run miles away for cry without let somelse notice as for example in Prime when they have circumvented again this thing when Sonic was moved for the Sea dog also if in a funny way and in fact they've circumvented this thing in a genius way as X has make at his time. For what I've see and understand to this point is : " Sonic can feel hate ; pure angry ; pain ; can cry (also if the brain is shared) but in a sort of limits or at least when nobody watch him " what do you think?

I think that people were spoiled by Archie where Sonic did cry much more liberally, to the point that some panels had to be redrawn, and now they think that Sonic's stoicness is yet another evil SEGA mandate.

Sonic has canonically hated tears since Sonic Jam. Whether is its own tears or the ones of other people we don't know, but both interpretations make sense. Sonic hates seeing people sad, and tries his best to cheer them up; he's also a rather private, introverted person despite his warm personality, so he wouldn't openly weep. Even then, I'm sure that if Sonic Battle had better animation, we would have seen him downright desperate in the ending :( you're really telling me that you didn't feel Sonic's pain just because he didn't have a crying sprite?

Also, not to be that person, but people also forget that Japanese culture is more stoic than the general Western culture. So, maybe don't imply that crying is the most valid way to show emotions?

(you're free to add how Sonic did shed tears once in Sonic X, so even the Japanese writers understand that you can use tears sparingly for greater impact :P)

That's all. Not everything you don't like is because of mean SEGA not making your headcanons valid. Some characters, and some people while we're at it, are just like that.

My least favourite thing on this website is when someone does some innocuous thing or has what seems to be a bad take, but you never actually see it you just see the litany of vague posts about it.

It's the worst when it's trans women vague posting about trans women, especially when it has to do with normalcy bc like. The vague posts are a call to normalcy in and of themselves. It's basic in and out grouping, it's a call for normalcy without using the word "normal" (decidedly bad and evil on Tumblr)

The only way to tell if the vague posts or the og post is more agreeable is to try to research into online beef and like I don't have a life but I do respect myself more than THAT. Otherwise you just agree with whomever you like and see complaining first

it makes me sad how we're more than halfway to a hundred issues in idw sonic and i can only tell you the name of one single town (windmill village). the world is so empty and it makes the stories less impactful. even during the metal virus, who cares if the world is destroyed if we don't know anything about it? i'm not saying idw would be improved by reintroducing a monarchy to the sonic world like in the archie comics (i've never been a particularly big fan of that) but at least that'd be something. it's so frustrating being a fan of this franchise sometimes, cuz i'm not going to blame the writers for this complete nothingburger of a world. i know it's not their fault and working with sega must be a nightmare. but it just sucks when so many of these new(er) sonic medias aren't allowed to do fuck all. idw sonic doesn't have a quantifiable world, sonic prime's whole concept was multiple worlds and yet there was ZERO time spent on world building, and so on. maybe i'm just a lorehead but i am desperate for more stuff to chew on. there's literally endless possibilities with what you can do with the sonic world, and them (nebulous, referring mostly to sega) continuously choosing to do nothing with it just sucks so baaaad

As an “older” fan, there are transphobes of every age, but I think one big reason a lot of adult fans are more hesitant to read this as fully canon has nothing to do with media literacy and everything to do with being burned before. I’ve been in fandoms where we all felt confident about a relationship with clear parallels to canon romantic relationships and subtext that basically anyone would accept as romantic if it was for a m/f pairing, only for the creators to deconfirm it and point the finger at us, saying how it was never romantic and we all just read into it way too much so it wasn’t their fault for leading us on. Expecting all representation to be explicitly stated isn’t a good attitude, but I think the people who seek it out the most are the people who have gotten their hopes up before because they DID read the subtext but then had creators insist that subtext never existed in the first place. I’d like to think things are getting better in that regard, but it’s still important to remember that a lot of doubt isn’t coming from ignoring the subtext but instead a history of seeing clear subtext get disregarded in the end.

yeah that's true and i really really need to stop writing posts at 2am especially when i'm sick. i've been in situations like that with shows i've watched before, where they've written out characters with queer subtext or handled the subjects really badly. admittedly what i'm referring to is western media, but i know the same stuff happens in Japanese medias too. i understand the doubt that people still hold, especially since the event left things open ended at least from what mizuki had to say (classmate A did confirm Mizuki as amab and insinuate that she IDs as female when talking to Ena but it's still up in the air for now).

that said, i won't advise putting your faith in a company that keeps putting out cashgrab gachas, but clpl has shown to care about queer issues and mention them in their stories. An's wedding event criticises marriage inequality in Japan, and even though it's only a few lines of dialogue, it's a stance against the opression of gay and trans people. i'm not saying to trust them 100%, but it's a sign that this storyline should be handled with care (it also helps that sega, although just the 3dmv maker and license holder, is a sponsor of tokyo's pride events).
