social media (semi-famous) au that was talked about like twice in the mota discord with @trashbag-baby666 …
gale’s account is private and he only has one!! his pfp is either scenery or just the ‘no pfp’ grey dude
john posts about his bf & calls him buck, gale comments on his posts so everyone knows that gale is buck
explaining the one above, gale’s username is probably smth like ‘buckclvn’ but his bio is friends-only so that says gale
basically they got a large following because john posted a video of curt doing something stupid and they also just post random things that gain attention
gale is faceless but his voice can be heard in some of john’s videos (he doesn’t want to take away from his bf’s fame)
curt will post the most random and controversial thing and just dip from the conversation (ken and crosby have to clean up his messes)
being spotted in public would be awkward especially if it’s john while he’s with gale because the fan would like keep glancing at gale like “who…” and then have that look of realization
to which later the fan would post smth like “i saw john’s bf and he is GORGEOUS” and john would repost or quote it
ken and curt take pics of their double dates and are always sure to block out gale’s face
curt probably treats anyone who recognizes him like a friend or someone who’s chasing him
brady is a fashion designer and hambone is his model (ty theo for this)
rosie and bubbles are also a part of this but we fr have no idea where…
um this is such a random post but i hope u guys like this!!

Day 21 - Drugged, "This will make you feel better, okay?"
Tags/CW: drugs, medwhump, syringe, passing out
Tumblr media
Darkness.
When he finally awoke from a seemingly endless dream, the first thing he noticed was the darkness enshrouding him. A cold, unforgiving void that he hadn't noticed before.
And then — as cheesy as it sounds — there was light.
Have you ever woken up from a nap so good you momentarily forget who, where, and when you are? That's roughly how Slade felt when all his senses were seemingly very suddenly returned to him.
The air he sucked desperately into his lungs stung painfully, the light above him burned his eyes, and every little sound around him made him jump as if someone had fired a cannon in the dead of night. He could feel his eardrums vibrating painfully, each breath was a conscious effort, and when he tried to raise his hands to block the light, he was met with resistance.
Something soft, yet sturdy, wrapped tightly around his wrists, keeping his arms pinned on either side of his body. Just trying to comprehend what was happening made him brake out in sweat, which evaporated quickly, sending a chill down his spine.
The resulting creak of the involuntary movement tormented his ears, and when he tried to speak...he could only manage an exhausted groan.
"...waz...hap-pening?" he slurred, managing to turn his head to the side, taking some of the strain off of his eyes.
He began to recognise the blurry edges of a bed railing, metal and slightly rusted. Behind that, dirty-looking tiled walls, and a counter top with either old or unfamiliar tools and items.
"W-where...?"
"D-Dr Slade! You're awake..."
The surprisingly gentle voice came from behind him, but he didn't have the strength to move his head again, only able to peer at the figure from the corner of his eyes, his silhouette a vague, humanoid blur against the glare of the light.
"I know this must all seem very confusing," the gentle voice said, "but I promise you, you're in good hands...my name is Dr Crosby. I...w-well, I'll take good care of you."
"Nnnnno..."
Why was it such a struggle to say anything? How much damage did he take? Who was this guy? Why did he have him strapped down to a rusty bed in a hygienically questionable room?
"I-I'm sure you have a lot of questions," Crosby said, "but first you must rest."
"Nnno..."
He managed to turn his head finally, only to wince and squeeze his eyes shut as the light blinded him again. He pulled a little at the straps around his wrists, but he really didn't have the strength to do a whole lot more than that.
His head dropped to the other side. Good. Now he could take a better look at this Crosby— Annnd he had his back turned. Slade cursed mentally, trying to blink the blur out of his vision, but things refused to clear up.
Fortunately, Crosby was standing close enough for Slade to still be able to tell what he was holding when he turned back. Unfortunately, he was holding a syringe. Slade couldn't read the label on the bottle he was holding, filling the syringe with its contents, but considering everything else...it couldn't be good.
"Don't..."
Finally, a sound that could pass for an actual word. Why did it sound so weak, though? It didn't stop Crosby from approaching him at all. It didn't stop him from grabbing Slade's arm, and Slade didn't have the strength to fight him.
"I don't want you to be in pain," Crosby said, as he gently inserted the syringe into his arm and pressed down on the plunger, "so this will make you feel better, okay?"
Slade wanted to tell him to sod off, but he never knew whether he even managed to produce any sound, as his eyes were already rolling back, pulling him back into darkness. Back into the cold, unforgiving void.

I think I figured out my feelings on what the pens have done in the last week. It’s safe. That’s all we are under Dubas and FSG. We’re safe. There’s no guts. There’s no sense of impending glory. We’ve had our cake (18 years of love and friendship) and we’ve eaten it (3 cups) and fans are impatiently yelling for more when we’ve got the best baker (of banana bread) in hockey and instead of mixing it up we’re following the recipe.
It’s not that there’s no hope. Through Sidney Crosby all things are possible so jot that down. It’s that we aren’t betting big. We aren’t swinging for the fences. We aren’t doing big moves or signing big players. We did that last off season and it worked out very good with Eller, pretty good with EK, and badly with Graves. We aren’t risking anything with the contracts we’re signing or the trades we’re making. Everyone is getting one to two years at cheap because we aren’t promising anything bigger or longer. We’re signing a bunch of boys for short terms who are looking to have bounce back years hoping at best we’ll find another Ned. Then if we like them we re-sign them and if we don’t they’re gone this time next year. That’s why we didn’t give PO an offer. They’re so scared of arbitration giving him more money or longer term than they offered him that they’d rather let him walk.
It’s hard to feel like this team has a future when it feels torn between this season and when Crosby retires in ???? years (but realistically 2-5). We’re banking draft picks and prospects for that nebulous future but it’s very clear that Dubas doesn’t expect anyone on this current team to still be here at that time (or at least none of the people we’re acquiring - Graves has 5 years, Jars Tanger Rak and Rust have 4 and I think everyone but Tanger is going to get traded when they hit 2 or 1 UFA). If this team is going to change year over year what is there to excite us about? The kids we call up and don’t play? Prospects that are realistically 1-3 years away from Wilkes and 2-5 years away from the NHL? The end of Sid (and Geno and Tanger but mostly Sid’s) career(s)? Idk.
We’re not betting. I know we can’t empty out the cupboards because the cupboards are bare but even in restocking we’re playing it safe. There’s nothing exciting. There’s nothing to distract from the real impending sense we’re at the end of an era and they haven’t invested time in creating a bridge to the next one. There’s no one interesting in the minors that they want us to care about. There’s no one on the team that they want us to get excited about since we’ve not heard from anyone on the team via official accounts since the end of the season. Maybe prospects dev camp next week will give us actual content but there’s nothing coming out of the penguins right now.
Maybe I’ve been fooled by the stability of 8 years of watching Sidney Crosby play. Maybe every team goes through a complete identity change up every 5 years or so and I’ve just been ignoring it as everyone around Sid and Geno left until it was just those two and Tanger still kicking. Idk. We could lose a hundred games like the 2022 pirates did and I’d still be a fan. Management isn’t betting on the team. Why should I?

For those of you who follow ColeyDoes Things on youtube may have seen her latest update "The BIGGEST fandoms on AO3". Getting the pleasant surprise of seeing Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin on the tumbnail got me so excited.
I always pictured the fandom of Hockey RPF as a niche on AO3. This fandom got me into tumblr, AO3 along with reading fan fiction all together. I've been part of this fandom for the last 8 years. Hockey in general is a big part of my life. I had so many thoughts, so much knowledge and for years it was the only fandom I read fanfiction for.
I am so excited to see it part of the 20 top fandom on a site like AO3. I didn't expect seeing this fandom so high up, and I'm honestly so excited seeing the video beacuse right now I'm 28 minutes in the video and she's going through place #15 and she still didn't get to HOCKEY RPF and I'm astounded and so excited. I can't wait to find out their placement on the top 20 fandoms. And all through the video I can't wait to see her reaction to the top ships and tags.
Seein in #12 SPORTS RPF and knowing that technically HOCKEY RPF should be under this umbrealla but in actuality HOCKEY RPF usually tagged only under HOCKEY RPF I'm shocked. I know how technically in the last year or so there was a booming in the romance genre of Hockey Romance Books, but I'm not quite sure what it did to the popularity of Hockey on AO3. Plus, hockey is well known as the least popular sport out of the major legues of North America so I am so surprised to see how popular it actually is.
Now after RAVING about the superiority of HOCKEY RPF VS. SPORTS RPF, apparently I was fundementally wrong and got dissapointed.
I was sure that AO3 seperated each and every "sport's field" RPF as a seperated entoty and not logged them together. Through the whole video I was waiting for the moment of the fandom I was so excited about being talked about. With each fandom she would look at the top ships and characters. Through watching the video I was debating with myself about the top 10 pairings. It's been a while since I looked up the exact list. So I was under no impression that Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin would be the number one pair. But as for the others I debated with myself. Just for the fun of it the list I had in my mind who is based on my personal experience and on various post about the top main paieings of Hockey are:
Sidney Croaby/Evgeni Malkin
Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews
Jamie Benn/Tyler Seguin (I know fhat it used to be their place, and I am well aware how they are barely any new fics about them, but I still want to believe they are on the top 10 pairs).
Danny Briere/Claude Giroux
Alexander Ovechkin/Nicklas Backstrom
Nolan Patrick/Travis Konecny
Leon Driasytel/Matthew Ktchuk.
Connor McDavid/Leon Driasytel
Sidney Crosby/Claude Giroux
Jeff Carter/Mike Richards (a girl can dream).
After getting it out of the way. What happened in the video was- she read a bunch of pairing from different sports. Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin was in fact the number on pairings. Which was extra impressive when you take into account the different feilds of sports. But in fairness it seemed like Hockey RPF was one of the OG Sports RPF with continued audience. And as for those two they had the benefit of playing with each other close to 20 years.
Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews also made the list, at around number 5. It made me so happy. As someone who was a big reader for 1988 it made me so happy. Also Coley didn't know how to read Toews so she read it as TOE-EZ, and through my mind I thought "Patrick Sharp would be so proud". Also it rather fitting to accidently hit a major theme in many of the 1988 fics, especially the older ones.
She also had a big surprise to see Omegaverse as one of the main tags. As someone who adores omegaverse and specifically reading it with the context of sports RPF it didn't surprise me in the slightest.
It also made me really happy to see the second most kudoed fic being a Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin wedding day fic. Especially because I know I put it in my marked for later list and there is a podfic version of it with 5 hours lengh.
Even though it wasn't to the extent that I wanted to, I still enjoyed the video and seeing even the mention of some major pairings who I read many fics about, gave me joy.

2024 Media Post Time - Master
1. Total Drama Island (2023) and Total Drama Island (2024)
I would personally consider Total Drama as one of my first "fandoms". One of the first times I went into the online community and talked to people... I had a DeviantART account which I made as an Ask Account for one of the characters.. Only answered about 2 asks before I stopped. I made image collages on a website online and posted those too. All before I found out how to download art programs as a kid..
It's been a long time since I watched those but sometime 3 years ago I did actually rewatch the first Total Drama Island and Total Drama Action, but stopped at World Tour and definitely didn't touch Revenge of the Island or All-Stars.
This new season is very obviously taking inspiration from the original, going back to the classic style with the characters and the challenges. Chris is back, even! There are a lot of characters in Reboot that feel like pieces of TDI put together. Though, I mean this in a good way, they feel balanced and different but not too exaggerated. Realistic but exaggerated at the same time.
When the characters were introducted I thought Ripper had the funniest intro of all time honestly. In the rest of the show he was amusing but that fart episode man. I also found Zee hilarious almost every time he spoke and Wayne too. I just laugh.
The Reboot introduces Homosexuals for the first time which is pretty cool, I won't lie. I thought it was amusing the gay guy Bowie's whole personality is just being gay and also being a bit of a petty gossip girl antagonist, but then there's Raj who is not so explicitly gay- his personality is being a stupid hockey jock (but not too stupid). It was good but I feel like the season, while it does focus on the characters interpersonal relationships, doesn't have nearly enough down time or conversations between characters in their cabins or at breakfast.. Just during challenges.
After becoming a hockey fan this hit harder and funnier to me than it could have before. Plenty of hockey references and jokes. They have the character Wayne who is a hockey jock but also stupid and since Raj is the gay one, Wayne is just really stupid and that's all he has got going on. I thought he'd maybe put his physical strength to use or something but no. He does get battered and bruised every other episode though..
I think I and a lot of people really did not enjoy Emma and Chase. Chase in the 2nd season was really funny but he wasn't there long and the whole rest of his and Emma's time on the show was a little irritating. Funny at first but as it went on ... man. I don't really care much for the romance elements in the show. Even the gays though I did appreciate it and this was kind of cool like, I think I would have been more on board if Emma stayed sadistic whether or not she liked or hated Chase at the moment and didn't keep flip flopping but I don't know what kind of a message that sends haha.
There was also a farting episode and a massive vomit scene with coloured vomit and it's like... hey now. You are gonna give people fetishes so deep in their head it won't crawl out until they're 20 and it's going to be vicious.
Could say more but yeah I love stupid shows like this every so often. I am good at laughing at everything, especially kids shows. I know how to be shocked every time something odd happens even though this is a cartoon and enjoying the same joke ten times.
Edit adding:
Wayne mentioning his Sidney Crosby rookie card gets destroyed story. Me shedding a tear 'I actually know who Sidney Crosby is..' How it feels finally knowing who a celebrity is in a TV reference... Not to mention I'm a card nerd.

Talk Hockey to Me
tagged by @giirlinterrupted 🤍💙
Tell me about:
1. The thing that got you hooked on hockey
I grew up in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, about an hour south of Hershey, PA. My dad grew up going to watch the Hershey Bears play minor league hockey in the American Hockey League, and he continued the tradition with me (and my sister sometimes.) At first, I only really liked to go to the games for an opportunity to spend time with my dad, which was rare sometimes, but in middle school I somehow ended up being really good at floor hockey when we played it in gym class. One day I managed to score a hat trick, even though I was terrible at every other sport. (I also had a crush on one of the players on my school's hockey team at that point.) So I just kinda thought hockey was fun at that point and started enjoying the actual games more. Then I picked a favorite player from the Bears independently for the first time, and it was Mike Green. I didn't know much about him, just thought he was cool. He turned out to be really good, and when he got called up to the NHL to play for the Capitals, I started watching the Caps games on TV. (I was also lucky that we got the sports channel from Washington DC, despite not being all that close to there.)
2. Your first ever fandom friend
I'm not too established in the hockey fandom on here. I have a personal blog that I rarely use anymore that I used to post occasional Caps stuff on and follow a few Capitals people, but that's on a different account that I rarely use. I know hockey has become a lot more popular on footieblr over the years. I remember a few years back when it was more unusual for these fandoms to overlap that I sent a message or two to people who were in both fandoms that I thought it was cool that they liked both sports like I do. Basically my only hockey friend on here is @giirlinterrupted (and I'm so grateful that she doesn't put Sidney Crosby on my dash like so many other footieblr hockey fans seem to do.) IRL I have been surrounded by hockey fans most of my life though, because it's pretty big in my state in general, so the main time I felt a little more alone on that was the 2 1/2 years I was living in San Francisco. Unfortunately I am currently surrounded by Penguins fans :( as I am living in Pittsburgh. My IRL best friend is also into hockey, but she is a Sabres fan since she is from Buffalo and now lives in Rochester, NY.
3. The jersey you would most like to own
I wish I had an old Mike Green or Jay Beagle Caps jersey. Mike Green is now retired, and Jay Beagle, I don't even know.
4. YOUR player (you only get ONE so choose wisely)
I still have an unhealthy attachment to Jay Beagle even though he's been off the Caps for years. None of the current players can live up to that.
5. A pairing that deserves more fic
Don't really read fic much, but Ovi/Backstrom (I'm so out of the loop that I don't even know if they have a ship name) are adorable together, and idk how popular they are, at least outside of Caps fans.
6. Your favourite on-ice moment
Tumblr media
6/7/18. What else? I still cry when I think about it sometimes, and I can barely listen to "I Will Wait" by Mumford and Sons without crying due to that "Worth the Wait" video the Caps put out on social media after the Cup win.
link someone else's art/fic/etc that you love & think everyone should check out
He's here on Tumblr (@mxgicdave) but I could only find my favorite pic of his on Twitter:
Tumblr media
link something you made & are proud of & want people to see
Got nothing. I tried to write a few things about hockey in the past, but not since I was like 13. I was writing a story about a minor league hockey player whose playing got impacted by past trauma. Didn't get very far, then I was also trying to write a murder mystery featuring the Capitals, and I got even less far with that.
no pressure tagging:
I have no one to tag! :(

THE NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE: THE MUSICAL.
Due to recent incidents, this page is now 17+. If you are under 17, interact via anon only.
Hello! I'm Shadow! I'm not entirely new to hockeyblr; I originally posted hockey on my main. However I decided to create this blog to separate my hockey talk from my non-hockey talk. Boundaries and other stuff under the cut.
ABOUT ME: I'm 17, queer, autistic (with ADHD in the mix) and I've been a Blues fan all my life. I also support the Washington Capitals, and I've been considering adopting the Kraken as a third team. Outside the NHL, I support the Kansas City Mavericks of the ECHL. As for players, I like Vladimir Tarasenko, TJ Oshie, Sidney Crosby, Cale Makar, Artemi Panarin and to an extent Cole Caufield. I also support generally more disliked players such as Tom Wilson. Brad Marchand has also grown on me a little. Additionally, I do want to share that I do support and *will* post about some incredibly controversial players, those players being Alex Ovechkin and Patrick Kane. The reason I'm sharing this is because there is one thing I want to make very clear: While I support a player on the ice, I don't exactly support a player off the ice. In fact, there may be times I will openly criticize a player's actions, even if they are my favorite. So, if seeing any of the players mentioned above makes you VERY uncomfortable, filter out the players' names (see also: tagging system) or block me for your own comfort. (Additionally, if you're curious on where I stand on Kane's 2015/16 cases, I won't get into that entirely, as it's a pretty messy subject and I don't think I could do it justice, however I'll direct you to read these posts from other users so you can try to guess how I feel). (Archived version of link one, archived version of link two. The images on link two are broken for some reason so go here and here in case you wanna save them). BOUNDARIES: Firstly, this blog is run by a minor, and this blog is strictly SFW unless stated otherwise (injuries, blood and excessive swearing will be tagged accordingly). Please don't reblog my posts to add NSFW stuff. Additionally, this is not an RPF blog. While I allow RPF accounts to interact, I do not want my posts being tagged as "ship" or any rpf tags. Lastly, don't send me gossip. This is not a gossip page. What your favorite player does in their private life is really none of my business and honestly I am better off not knowing. There's plenty of other blogs for that. Who can interact? I get it. DNIs are annoying. But the reason I set one is because there's just some people I don't feel comfortable interacting with me, and I want to make that clear. However, as for who can interact, let's just say that I welcome all hockey fans, any team, any kind. Casual, diehard, hell even bandwagon fans can interact! I don't judge! I would be happy to see other Blues and Caps fans interact, especially since I don't see many of them on hockeyblr. Fans of rival teams are also not only welcome, but fucking encouraged to interact! I don't bite at all unless you'd like /platonic. I also want to meet some artists (SFW please!) and other creators. Hockeyblr could use some creativity here! So, who's not welcome? Well, besides the usual criteria (bigots, antivaxxers and pedo/incest fetishizers), I do not welcome gatekeepers, gossip blogs or confession blogs. I also don't want strictly NSFW pages to interact, and I also advise blocking me if you don't want minors interacting at all (Remember: DNIs go BOTH ways!). Additionally, if you think cheering for a specific team makes you a shitty person, or likewise, you think your team isn't immune to criticism, get off my page. Part of changing hockey culture involves criticizing your own team and favorite players too.
Discourse blogs are also advised to not interact unless I already know you, since discourse makes me fucking uncomfortable a lot of the time. Lastly, accounts with no pfp/bio/header or accounts with a pfp of a (usually) white woman and nothing else will be blocked since half the time I'll assume you're a bot. No exceptions. Having posts or a cool username is no longer an excuse. Additionally, blogs with the "mature content" tag will also be blocked since half the time I'll assume you're NSFW. Sorry yall. TAGGING SYSTEM *actually im getting rid of my original tagging system because i hate it lol* Depending on how you feel about certain players, I advise filtering the following player tags because I post about them/will post about them a lot (more to be added): #vladimir tarasenko #patrick kane #tj oshie #alex ovechkin #tom wilson #jordan kyrou And, again, depending on how you feel about certain teams, here's some team names and team lbs you might wanna filter: #blues lb #caps lb #st louis blues #washington capitals #chicago blackhawks #new york rangers #pittsburgh penguins #vegas golden knights I do not tag my posts as "tw (player/team name)", nor will I censor players name's or team names l*ke t4is (like this), here's why. Some other tags you might want to filter include: #eye contact (heavily advise filtering this if you have scopophobia). #long post #fan culture #hockey culture #bigotry #slander or #trash talk (if you don't like seeing your players/team get slandered). #not hockey (for non-hockey based talk) OTHER BLOGS:
@demonic-shadowlucifer - Main, and the blog I follow/like from. @thecringepunkarchives - Disability and more. @thatonedemonnamedlucifer - General fandom blog

Q@A puckbunnies
guys, all what's wrong with the puckbunnies with unhealthy long term obsession with Sidney Crosby but also branching out into other franchises and very young age groups.
She's spiteful, toxic and envious, name calling. Why do you bother about Connor NcDavid's long term girlfriend who is actually his childhood sweetheart I stress long term as well hit or miss with her whether a wag works or stays home
Tumblr media
McDavid is 27, I doubt he would consider to even drag 40+ years old spiteful pyckbunny boiler of strange look and a toxic character on his ice hockey stick. Mind, in the speed of the light.
Tazer follows this Ashley on Insta. She runs his fan account..well, a lot of players are on her mind but her fits are about Sidney Crosby.

Note
lol not the internalized misogyny jumping out with the way you talk about the USWNT.
listen bud it's not internalized misogyny, truly i wish it was. it is something more vile...
sometimes u hate a group of women but it's not because they're women…it’s because they're on a team u hate...
alas, tis the nature of being a sports fan. at least it is for me! i am a passionate sports girl!! i spew hatred!!!!!!! welcome to sports fandom lmao. you should hear the horrible, insane shit i've said in my life about sidney crosby, a man who by all accounts is just a nice canadian saint. :P
(if this is about me calling the uswnt as an organization arrogant, please understand that as the arrogance of a rich first world nation not as gendered lmao. let me be sour in my country's defeat? wtf man? i literally cried over this game yesterday, don't be dick)
PS/Extra Note: i don’t think you meant any harm here, but you should know that it's extremely poor form as a sports fan to go poke the wound of a fan whose team yours just beat in a championship game, the day after that game.
EDIT: my big frustration with the whole thing really has nothing to do with the uswnt, to be clear. it's that marta, the greatest women footballer of all time, has never really had a proper team put around her because of economic and socio-political issues in brazil. she and really all of brazilian women's soccer has been systematically failed by the country. by contrast, the uswnt receives great support economically and politically for its development (obviously not relative to men's sports, but that's not the comparison here).
this is not to say that the players on the uswnt did not earn their medal; of course they did! they won the game fair and square. they worked their asses off to get there. they currently have, and have long had, an excellent team. i personally enjoy watching a lot of their players do their thing (trinity rodman in particular is a force and i love her style of play).
but i think it's pretty fair for brazilian fans like myself to be frustrated that marta's years on the seleção were squandered in this way, in a way that has nothing to do with the actual play on the pitch and everything to do with economics and politics. and to pretend like the USWNT (and other teams as well) have not had a leg up over brazil in that respect is a kind of arrogance that leaves a sour taste in my mouth. but again, that has nothing to do with the actual game that was played, which the americans won fair and square.
[note: it's not like we don't see this happening in other sports either!! there's a reason the US and China dominate the olympics lol]
at this point i'm just venting (sorry!). but it's deeply tragic what has happened in brazilian women's soccer, and specifically to marta. at least it is tragic to me. and instead of writing this essay mid-game because i was sad and angry, i just made some snide comments (really one comment) in my tags, on my personal blog. i feel like...i should be allowed to do that without someone accusing me of misogyny anonymously lol?
anon, i hope you see that this is actually much more complicated—both in the economics and politics of global sport but also for me personally—than just "i guess lonewolflink has some internalized misogyny to work through". like...no. that's not what the snide comment was talking about at all. i harbor no genuine ill will to the american women's team. but even if i did, and i had to work through some internalized misogyny...
my PS still stands. it's not cool to come to someone's personal blog when they clearly care a lot about sports and the teams they cheer for, and then prod the wound the day after a huge tragic loss. please don't do that in the future. not to me, not to anyone else.

In Daniel Kitson's old radio shows, he made repeated claims that the band The Lucksmiths based the song Hiccup in Your Happiness on him. I tried to find clips of that recently for an archive and annoyingly could only find one instance of it, though I know he claimed it several times (though at least that one instance I did find was enough to assure me that I hadn't made the whole thing up). The Lucksmiths were an Australian band that Kitson was utterly obsessed with from about 2006 to about 2010, and still played them once in a while as recently as his 2023 run of radio shows. In his 2009 shows from MICF he had them play a song live in the studio one night, and got amusingly uncharacteristically starstruck, introduced the band by telling the audience "I can't even look at them", which I liked as a succinct description of how star-struck-ness feels. One time, during the graveyard radio run from MICF in 2008, he played every track off an entire Lucksmiths album with no talking in between, much to the annoyance of Matthew Crosby.
He also wrote the liner notes for their EP from 2006, which was entitled A Hiccup In Your Happiness and started with that song, which I guess offers a bit of credence to his claim that he inspired the lyrics to that song, since he apparently did know them well enough to do that. They might have let the subject of their song write the liner notes for the album. Or Kitson might have been making up the claim that he'd inspired the song, and they just let him do liner notes because they figured if you let a very well-respected comedian scribble on your album cover, then it will become a collector's item that some wildly over-invested fan of his will purchase 18 years later. Which is exactly what's happened, making this one of three physical CDs that I've bought online in the last month, because sometimes it's fun to pretend that it's 2006.
I scanned it with my roommate's scanner to get what is annoyingly not a great quality image, but it's the best I could do:
Tumblr media
I couldn't get my own laptop to connect to my roommate's scanner, so I just scanned it to his computer and then sent it to myself. I sent it from his Messenger account, as that was open and seemed like the easiest way. I did not consider what an odd non-sequiter that would create in our Messenger conversation, that from his perspective, the last message was one from him to me asking if I'd eaten all the chicken from the fridge (I had, but I told him so in person), and then suddenly there was a picture of a screed with quite an intense message about the nature of love, apparently sent from him to me even though he'd never seen it before.
He sent me a message saying "that's one way to look at it", and I explained the situation as clearly as I possibly could, which I realized still wasn't very clear. Not easy to explain why I had gone online and purchased a CD from 2006 by an obscure Australian band, and then scanned it to his computer and sent it to myself. And once I started trying to explain it to him, I quickly realized I couldn't do a great job of justifying the decision even to myself. "Okay, there's a man named Daniel Kitson, and what happened was that in the early 2000s he said he didn't want a popular following, and he's a very very good comedian, but if he'd just been normal about it then he'd just be a normal very very good comedian with a normal level of people greatly enjoying his very good work, but because he was so committed to obscurity some people got really into collecting everything he ever did, which suggests his obscurity commitment backfired if you assume its goal was to actually keep him obscure, though if its goal was to create massive demand for everything he put out there, it actually worked very well. He's still a very very good comedian but he mainly just talks about ceramic pots and stuff these days. Anyway I bought this CD." I did not try to explain all this to my roommate. I actually blamed a friend of mine, said I bought the CD because he wanted to see it and it was easier to ship to my place than to his, which was technically true but I didn't get into the fact that I very much wanted to see it too.
It's a nice song, though. I'm not sure if they were quite as great as Daniel Kitson thought they were, but Lucksmiths ones are some of the few songs from his 2023 radio run that I didn't skip when he played them (I didn't skip them in the older radio shows either, but I listened to most songs from the early runs because I liked his music taste a lot better in 2007 than in 2023).

Indie 5-0 with Erika Olson: Holiday Edition
Tumblr media
Erika Olson’s music and her kids have grown together. Motherhood gave birth to Erika’s artistry and reminded her that she was wild. She found that her roots were better suited to cracking concrete than climbing ladders. She found she was not born to follow rules that did not account for her. Rather, she was born to bewilder them.
Erika combines vulnerable vocals, contemporary storytelling, and musical influences spanning indie, folk, country, blues, Americana and pop. When pressed to describe her music, Erika likes to call it “folk with a beat.”
We spoke with Erika about her music, her holiday traditions, and her favorite holiday music! So, without further ado, let’s dive in:
What is your favorite holiday song and why?
Hello! Thank you so very much for giving me the chance to talk holiday fun with you! I love this time of year!! I was raised on Christmas music, growing up my mother would start listening to everything from the Nutcracker to Bing Crosby as soon as seasonally possible. We wore out multiple copies of Time Life’s Christmas Classic cassette tapes and CDs. Choosing a favourite holiday song is so hard because they all live together in my memory as one big sugary blur. But as I tease them apart there is no denying my absolute love and adoration for Skating by Vince Guaraldi Trio from A Charlie Brown Christmas. I have always been a sound track fan and it is possible I could trace those roots right down to Vince Guaraldi’s amazing jazz compositions. Guaraldi paints the picture of a winter wonderland evoking snow ball fights, snow angel making, ice skating, and sledding. When I want to remember what it feels like to go to sleep praying for a snow day – I need look no further than Skating.
What were the traditions around the holidays in your house growing up?
Christmas was a full contact sport in my house growing up.  I had three sisters and a mother who could do no wrong, so we started early and we ended strong! We’d start listening to Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving, bake every Christmas cookie in the Joy of Cooking, decorate the house from tip to toe in lights and pine trees, start the season by watching White Christmas, sing our hearts out at midnight church service, strive for the honour of being the first to scout out Santa’s gifts without waking the rest of the house, eat as many sides as possible before being told to eat some turkey, play the newest Nintendo game until our thumbs blistered, and then when all the sides are gone, the cookies reduced to crumbs, and the Nintendo abandoned until next year, we’d sit down and watch It’s A Wonderful Life.
If you could record your dream holiday duet with anyone dead or alive what would it be?
My dream would be to record a holiday record with my family.  I sense there is some pent-up musical expression in my mother and three sisters and it would be so incredible to unleash that on a thoughtfully curated collection of holiday songs.  It would be made all the more meaningful to include my children as well. What is the first holiday track you ever learned?
O Holy Night is the first song I really got under my fingers when learning to play the guitar and it is still one of my most favourite songs to perform.
What are you currently working on? What can you tell us about it?
I am so excited to say I’ve nearly completed my debut album.  The last two songs are being mixed as we speak.  It will be coming out spring of next year.  It has been a lifetime in the making and I cannot wait to share it with the world!

For those unaware, during the production of TNG, Star Trek bought the rights to a script from David Gerrold called Blood and Fire, which focused on the Enterprise coming across a derelict ship whose crew had been infected with Regulan Blood Worms, a creature so deadly that according to regulations, any place found to contain them should be immediately sterilized and destroyed. This was supposed to be a metaphor for the public's fear of HIV/AIDS, and according to Wikipedia, Gerrold apparently later stated it was supposed to specifically represent the fears surrounding giving or receiving a blood donation, and the episode would have ended with a card with information on how to help the Red Cross. Famously however, the B plot was supposed to include a gay couple on the Enterprise, which would have been Star Trek's first gay couple.
Despite buying the rights to the script, members of the production staff, namely Rick Berman, worried that it would be too controversial and never produced the episode. It would eventually have three adaptations though. The most well known, after UPN's parent company decided they wanted to do an AIDS Awareness week and mandated that all of their shows have a very special episode, the Star Trek Enterprise crew drug up the script and very, very loosely adapted it into 2x14 Stigma. Gerrold would also go on to adapt the story into his original novel series, Star Wolf.
Relevant to this post however, is the fan made series Star Trek: Phase II, later renamed New Voyages, which is supposed to be the later years of Kirk and crew's five year mission. They received permission from Gerrold and adapted it into their fourth and fifth episodes, Blood and Fire Parts 1 & 2. This is by all accounts a much more faithful adaptation of the original script than Stigma. And one half of the gay couple present here is Peter Kirk, Sam's son and one of the survivors from the tos episode Operation: Annihilate!, who has since joined Starfleet and found a position on the Enterprise. Episode is also notable for featuring Denise Crosby playing one of Tasha's ancestors.
You can find both episodes here. Warning, they are extremely cheesy

The numbers game
As has been mentioned repeatedly, the rights to John Constantine are allegedly tied up with the announced HBO Max production (scheduled to film in early 2023), which is why we have been blessed with Jenna Coleman’s interpretation of the character in The Sandman. I’ve seen some folks on twitter outright disbelieve Gaiman’s claim on this. Some people have become conditioned to question people’s motives on these things. Fact is, it’s purely pragmatic: Gaiman wanted a modern Constantine in Sandman (they could have created a new character for Dream a Little Dream of Me to provide the sand), plus I think he fell in love with Jenna Coleman (as you do) and wanted to give her more than the cameo she would have otherwise had when 18th century Lady Johanna appears. People will be debating the casting decisions on Death, Lucifer and others for years to come, but fortunately with Johanna it’s actually as cut-and-dried as you can get with such things.
Anyway, back to my point for this post: I can’t help thinking that the HBO Max production shouldn’t be used as an excuse to not give us some form of Johanna Constantine spin-off. For one thing, DC/Warners seems to love doubling up, if not tripling up adaptations of their characters. If not for a combination of C19 and a few other factors you may have seen reported in the news, the Ezra Miller Flash movie would have been released long ago.Miller’s version was actually announced not long after Gustin’s series debuted (you may recall the star of Arrow being a bit pissed about that). They even lampshaded this in the Crisis on Infinite Earths miniseries by having Miller and Gustin’s Flashes meet briefly. Ironically, as it looks now, the Gustin Flash series is scheduled to end after its NINTH season before the movie comes out.
And that’s the thing: there is a canonical DC multiverse. Just like with Marvel (which means we get to enjoy seeing Hayley Atwell playing a female version of Captain America, albeit mostly in animated and comic book form other than her cameo in Dr. Strange 2). And Crisis (both the comic original and the TV version) established that ALL the different versions of DC characters co-exist (in the comic they even account for Cathy Lee Crosby’s forgotten Wonder Woman movie of 1974). In the DC Multiverse, Michael Keaton’s Batman co-exists with Adam West’s. Mia Sara’s version of Harley Quinn from the 2003 Birds of Prey TV series co-exists with Margot Robbie’s movie version; and BoP’s Oracle (formerly Batgirl) technically co-exists with the version in the now-cancelled film. There is zero reason why Jenna Coleman’s Johanna Constantine, from a universe in which that person happens to be female, couldn’t co-exist with Matt Ryan’s John Constantine or Keanu Reeve’s version or the person who will be cast for the HBO Max version (according to some media reports, the role is apparently not officially cast yet). Why can’t they all co-exist? How many Dr. Stranges were there in that last movie, anyhow?
Count how many variations of Batman or the Batman continuity are either current, announced or recent: Robert Pattinson (The Batman, which may get a sequel); Michael Keaton (returning for The Flash and he was also supposed to be in the Batgirl movie; rumor has it he’s in Aquaman 2 as well); Ben Affleck (rumor has it he may return for Aquaman 2 as well or Flash); a sequel to Joker has been announced (Bruce Wayne appeared in the first film); Pennyworth (a prequel series about Alfred) is about to air its 3rd season; the Gotham series ended not that long ago; animated films featuring Batman still come out periodically. I’m sure I missed one or two - thing is we can have a ton of Batmen but not two very different versions of Constantine? They don’t even say Jenna’s name the same as Matt’s.
Hell, if there isn’t a fan fic already on AO3 featuring Jenna’s Johanna and Matt or Keanu’s John getting busy on some astral plane, someone’s being lazy! LOL

who's your favorite player and why?
ok so i couldn't narrow it down to one so i was going to narrow it down to five. That didn't work either so without further ado in no particular order here's my top 10 players and why:
1. Brenden Gallagher - He was the first hockey player i knew of (don't come at me i live in Australia) and i got really into his personality through all of the Habs media stuff when the Gallys were a thing and i've grown to love his playing style. My thing for stupid rat boys can be traced back to him.
2. Tyler Seguin - He's the first hockey player that i really just fell for (yes i know stereo-typical) for about 6 years i was a die hard Stars fan because of my love for him. He's done some kinda sketchy stuff when he was young but imma be honest i find the whole twitter incident fucking hilarious more than homophobic and he's shown a lot of active growth over the years and has actual receipts towards actually being a good person - notably attending BLM marches and kneeling in solidarity. I can no longer call myself a stars fan (fuck ja benn) but I will forever be a Seguin fan.
3. Braden Holtby - First of all have you seen that man? How can you not love him? Like even if he had the personality of a burning dumpster he's still beautiful as all hell. That being said he's got a great personality and is so stead fast in his morals that i could and have cried over his vocal allyship with the LGBT community for so many years. Also the turtle saga, hope his turtles are doing well down in dallas.
4. Claude Giroux - The mouth on this man, iconic. This may be controversial but when i first started actually paying attention to hockey i was being guided by a penguins fan, they made me watch a game with them, of course it was against the flyers and much to their chagrin I instantly fell in love with Giroux. As a got more into hockey tumblr i just kept finding out more and more about this silly little man the more i loved him (i would like to mention danny briere as an honorary mention along with Claude since i have watched that one video where they're in Germany thousands of times). Now here I am a flyers fan.
5. Travis Konecny - That's right another little rat bastard. Even when i was sorta out of the loop with hockey i couldn't stop paying attention to this little man. I have a habit of keeping track of all the short kings through out the league (shout out nathan gerbe). I think TK should have his own personal mic for every game, i want to hear every single thing out of that garbage cans mouth. That one game where he finally gets Crosby to bite and is just having the time of his life.
6. Nolan Patrick - Yeah yeah yeah, we all saw this coming but hey nothing wrong with the classics. Beautiful man, I wish i was him. So much envy, also crippling migraine gang!
7. Erik Johnson - He's the reason I got back into hockey. I honestly cannot explain it, I don't know why but there was just something about the missing teeth that drew me to him (the worst part is I'm not even joking). This man and his fucking horses, absolute legend he just names them after his teammates without blinking. Also his private account on Instagram is "bighorny" and he uses it primarily to talk shit on himself on avalanche posts while unsuspecting fans try to defend him.
8. Nicke Backstrom - My love, he's the reason I learnt swedish. Another member of the crippling migraine gang, but for real when I was a 14 year old kid suffering from a migraine disorder knowing that other people who had achieved crazy levels of success like Nicke was very comforting. Also I think his sense of humour is wildly underrated causes totally dry.
9. Matthew Tkachuk - I know, I know, another little rat boy. I think the whole legacy thing is really interesting but like beyond that he is such a defined player in terms of he's carved out the perfect little nook within the league and that nook just happens to be getting under everyone else's skin. Obviously, everyone knows the whole thing between Matty and Drai but I feel like people have forgotten about the whole Drew Dougherty thing. "ah yes fellow associate" king shit.
10. Carey Price - And we're coming full circle back to the habs. Pricy is an absolute class act everyone knows that, he's such a kind person to all of the fans. I seriously miss the PK&Pricy bromance :( also, his wife is beautiful and the whole thing with him using his wife lingerie as a pocket square lives in my mind absolutely rent free. Also goalie so <3
I could make this list longer (they'd all be goalies, didn't put enough goalies on this list) but ill stop now.
Extra little shout out to all the flyers rookies too.
