Vivien has been with Sidney for years, sticking with him through thick and thin, losses and wins. It was only a month after the Penguins won the Stanley Cup in 2016 that she and Sidney finally said I do to each other, now sharing a last name. They were in no rush to have children, but they knew it would eventually happen and if it did, then they would be more than happy.
It all started with waffles.
Vivien was sound asleep—until suddenly, her stomach twists with hunger. She sits up, confused. She never woke up in the middle of the night for food. Ever. She glanced at the clock.
2:41 a.m.
Still, her body is insisting. So, she pads down the hall barefoot, slipping on a sweatshirt and head to the kitchen. Soon, the smell of waffles fills the house as she stands in front of the waffle maker, flipping them carefully. It didn’t taken long for her husband to notice she was gone. Sidney could hear the sound of running water and pots and pans bumping against each other. So he climbed out of bed and walked to the kitchen where he found her pouring waffle batter onto the waffle maker.
“What are you doing?” he mumbles, voice heavy with sleep.
Vivien barely glances at him. “Making waffles,” she says casually. “I woke up starving.”
He looks at the clock on the stove. “It’s 2 AM, baby.”
“I don’t know, I just got hungry,” she sighed and took the waffle out when it was ready. “go back to sleep, i’ll be there soon.”
“I sleep better with you. Now, hand me one of those.”
At the time, neither of them thought much of it. It was just a simple case of midnight cravings. Only in her case, it was much more than craving waffles.
It’s September and the house is warm. And Vivien? She had made herself a little nest in the living room couch, surrounded by a plethora of blankets and pillows and yet, she were still cold. It was then that Sidney walked in from practice.
“Are you okay?” He asked, approaching his wife and her bundle of blankets.
She look up with a glare. “I’m freezing. Are you sure the heat is on?”
He frowned. “It’s seventy two in here.”
“It feels like I just got hit by an iceberg.” She adjusted the blankets over her body.
“Okay, Titanic, scoot. I heard my cuddles are the warmest.” He took off his shoes and started lifting up Vivien’s blankets then wrapped his arm around her waist, bringing her closer to him.
“Oh yeah? Who told you that? Flower? Geno?”
It only took an afternoon nap for Sidney to start noticing that there was definitely something wrong with his wife. She never naps. Ever. But recently, after work or running errands, Vivien immediately falls asleep the second her body hit the couch or bed. She weren’t against naps, but she just never took them.
It was one afternoon when Sidney came from to find her asleep on the couch. The TV was still on playing some show that was long forgotte, a barely eaten granola bar on the coffee table. He approaches the couch and crouched down so he could take a look at his sleeping wife. His hand reaches up to Vivien’s cheek and strokes it leading to her slowly waking up. He didn’t mean to do that.
“Hi.” She smile weakly at him.
“Hi,” he smiled back. “The bed is more comfortable.”
“I think I might stay here for the night. I’m too tired to move,” she replied, sighing deeply. “I don’t know what’s wrong with me, Sid. I’m tired.” She admits.
“We’ll find out together. I promise you’re going to be okay.” He pressed a light kiss to her forehead.
After a couple of weeks, it seemed like she had cut back on afternoon naps. Now, she were angrier than usual. It was always something setting Vivien off. Unfolded laundry, the alarm clock going off, Sidney sitting too close to her . . Speaking of Sidney. .
Vivien walked into the shared bedroom with a glass cup in hand, fuming at the fact that Sidney had left it sitting on the counter. He had stepped into the bedroom to change his sock after he accidentally spilled some water on the floor and he had stepped in it. Nobody likes wet socks after all. He was just about to leave when she had barged in.
“Do you know where this goes?” She held the glass up to show him.
“In the dishwasher?” He looked like a boy being scolded by his mother.
“And why wasn’t it in there? Do I have to do everything in this house?” Vivien placed the glass on the nightstand so he had to bring it back to the kitchen. Without hearing him out, she walks away.
“I wasn’t done with it . .” He mumbled to himself. He definitely didn’t want to piss her off more. Sidney mentally made a note about her sudden anger. Midnight waffle cravings, being too cold, afternoon naps and now this? yeah, something was up.
It only continued from there. The couple was getting ready for bed, Sidney had just finished drying his hair from his shower while Vivien was brushing her teeth. It came fast, the sudden urge to gag. As soon as Sidney heard, he was right beside her. Vivien had gagged so hard that she had to sit on the toilet seat to steady herself.
“Hey, hey . . . I got you.” Sidney held her body close as she coughed.
“The toothpaste is disgusting.” Was all she could say.
“The toothpaste? The same brand you’ve been using for six years?” He asked. There was never any problem with the brand before. . Why now?
“It’s awful, Sid.” She wiped the bit of toothpaste she had from corner of her mouth.
“We can change it. It’s okay. We’ll go out tomorrow to the store.” He assured her.
That same night, she had complained about the dryness in her mouth. Despite drinking a whole water bottle, it felt like a desert in her mouth.
It was after a Penguins game that Sidney’s theory was finally confirmed. Vivien was talking with Flower, Sidney by her side holding her hand. Vivien thought he had gotten really touchy in the past few weeks, she didn’t mind of course. (Yet.)
Sidney was in the middle of talking when she tilted her head and suddenly squinted, nose crinkling just a bit. Then she took a very deliberate sniff in Marc-Andre’s direction.
“Is that . . . lavender?” She asked, eyebrows raised.
Flower lit up when she immediately took notice. “Yes! It’s my new detergent! You like it?”
She smiled. “It’s nice. Calming. I smelled it the second you walked over.” Sidney blinked. He didn’t say anything—just tightened his hold on her hand slightly.
After a little more chatting, she leaned toward Sid and whispered, “I’m gonna run to the bathroom real quick.” He nodded, hand ghosting over the small of his wife’s back as she slipped away.
The second the door closed behind Vivien, Marc-André turned to Sid with a knowing look. “Do you know?” he asked, voice low but playful.
Sidney straightened. “Know what?” he replied carefully.
Flower gave him a face. “Sid. Come on. I’m a father. I know the signs.” He gestured vaguely. “She smelled my shirt, man.”
“I knew I wasn’t crazy!” Sidney let out a sigh of relief. “The naps, the midnight cravings, the mood swings! She cried because we were out of the good peanut butter. And she absolutely hates my deodorant now. She’s been chewing ice and steals my hoodies when it’s seventy degrees out! Her toothpaste makes her gag, Flower, it makes her gag!”
The goaltender laughed softly, but his expression shifted as he looked toward the bathroom door.
“You know,” he said, gentler now, “it’s probably already been rough for her. Those early months can be hard.”
Sid nodded slowly. “I’ve noticed. She’s been tired a lot. Snapping at stuff that never used to bother her. And I keep asking if she’s okay . .” He let out a breath. “She’s not okay.”
“That’s when daddy sid comes in to the rescue.” Flower playfully punched Sidney’s shoulder.
Sidney was about to protest about the new nickname but then it settled in. Someone was going to call him dad. Sidney ran a hand down his face and exhaled. “I’m gonna be a dad. Holy shit.”
“The best thing ever.” Flower grinned.
Sidney shook his head in disbelief, the corners of his mouth pulling into a stunned smile. “She’s gonna be so good at it.”
“You both will be.”

Plz I need dad Sidney Crosby. Dilf realness
dilf realness!!! you can also check out my coach!sidney au
♡ idc what the popular vote is, sidney is a BOY dad. and he wants a whole hockey team of boys.
♡ sidney is the first one to always get up in the middle of the night when baby boy is sick, or even when they're older coming into the room saying there's a monster under the bed.
♡ family skate day!!!!!! he almost tears up because he's waited so long to do family skate day, so he is soaking up every single minute. he's gonna be one of the last dads to leave the ice too.
♡ sidney is 100% a quality time person, and that just amplifies when he becomes a dad. he's taking his boy everywhere, to the store, running errands around town, to the gym even. he's going everywhere with him!
♡ dad's day out! (really means momma's day to herself but yk) he's taking his boy to get pancakes for breakfast, then they're going to the science museum together, the park with the really big slide, shopping for a new pair of shoes, and on the way home they're getting mom some flowers

TRANSCRIPT FROM THE TSN PODCAST, GUEST STARRING SIDNEY CROSBY (3:09 - 7:35)
podcaster: switching gears a bit, you have a daughter, correct? she's in med school i think.
sidney: yeah, buttercup, bee, bumblebee - she's got lots of nicknames *laughs* she finished university, doing a double major in sports management and biochemistry. which is pretty tough, especially since she was on the hockey and lacrosse teams. but she loved it, and she somehow managed to graduate in four years, so i'll take it! she's going to med school in chicago now, trying to be an anesthesiologist.
podcaster: wow, that's - that's a lot
sidney: *laughs* it's a lot, yeah
podcaster: fans noticed that you've been going on vacations more during the summer. is that to get bee's mind off of school, because you're not playing anymore, something else?
sidney: oh, it's a mix of everything, i suppose. bee's real busy during the year. she went to stanford for four years, now she's in chicago - like over the last few years, she's just had a lot on her plate. so yeah, we like going out a lot during the summer. but we spend time at home too. we all play monopoly together, we go fishing, they push me in the water-
podcaster: i'm sorry, they push you in the water? you're sidney crosby, i thought mackinnon idolized you growing up
sidney: not anymore, bee made sure of that. it's worse because they got connor involved in this too, so it's three on one. i mean i used to hold the fact that i'm a better hockey player, but they've been breaking records and i'm out of the game now, so- *shrugs*
podcaster: *laughing* oh man, this is gold
sidney: what're you gonna do? i mean, nate's been here too long for me to kick him out, and connor - it doesn't look like he's leaving any time soon.
podcaster: connor bedard's been having a great career, especially over the last few years. do we have you to thank for that?
sidney: no, no, he's a great kid. he's really good at hockey, he was amazing even during his earlier seasons. but i think the media was a little bit crazy about him, and once they calmed down, he got a chance to flourish. nothing to do with me, he's great on his own
podcaster: but you still like showing him up?
sidney: *smiles and shrugs* i mean i don't go up against him in the league anymore, so sometimes i gotta do it in the garage

Sleepless in Pittsburgh
Tumblr media
Summary: Sidney and Y/n are supposed to be taking turns getting up at night to take care of their infant.
Warnings: none?
Notes: request @thedevilrisen
Tumblr media
In the quiet sanctuary of their suburban home, Sidney and Y/n danced a nightly ritual that was as tender as it was tiring. Their baby girl, a delightful bundle of eight months, had just been fed and was now nestled in Sidney's strong arms, her eyes drooping as she fought the call of sleep. The nursery, a soft palette of pastels, hummed with the gentle white noise machine designed to help soothe her, a modern lullaby that filled the room. Y/n, her hair tied back in a loose bun, moved quietly, finishing up the bedtime routine. She glanced over at Sidney, who wore a look of quiet determination, his soft gaze fixed on their daughter's sleepy face. His eyes filled with raw pure joy and love. Emotions that strong had only ever been shared with her before.
With a soft sigh, the baby's eyes finally closed, and Sidney carefully placed her in the crib. The couple exchanged a knowing look, one that spoke of shared responsibilities and silent promises. They had agreed to take turns getting up in the night to ensure that neither was overwhelmed by the constant wake-up calls. It was a plan that had worked well, or so Sidney thought. Y/n had been shouldering more of the childcare lately, and it was etched on her face, in the dark circles beneath her eyes and the way she moved with a slightly slower grace than usual. He felt a twinge of guilt, but also a fierce protectiveness. He knew she was tired, but she never complained, not even when he could see her stifling yawns. She would never complain about being tired because of a little extra responsibility on her because Sidney was a little more busy with work. She knew way before the thought of having a child ever entered her mind that this would be a different rodeo.
Sidney held out his hand to Y/n, and she took it gratefully, her own feeling small and cold. They padded out of the nursery together, the floorboards creaking slightly under their weight. As they entered their bedroom, the room was bathed in the soft glow of the moon, which streamed through the curtains and painted intricate patterns on the wooden floor. The room was a sanctuary of their own, filled with the faint scent of the vanilla candles Y/n had lit earlier to create a calming atmosphere. Their bed looked inviting, the crumpled sheets whispering of a much-needed rest.
Sidney could see the exhaustion etched in every line of Y/n's face as she climbed into bed. Him being gone for road games and simply being so worn out from home games, she was getting up more often than not. Plus she was here all day with the little one and it was taking a toll on her. He had noticed it in the way she had been quieter than usual, and how she sometimes forgot simple things like where she had put the baby's pacifier, and it would still be in her hand. As he sat down next to her, his thoughts swirling with love and concern, he made a silent vow to do more. He didn't want her to bear this burden alone. He couldn’t become that type of dad.
Gently, he kissed the top of her head, his lips lingering for a brief moment, a silent promise of support. She leaned into the touch, closing her eyes and letting out a sigh that seemed to carry the weight of the world. They both knew the baby could stir at any moment, but for now, they had a few precious minutes to themselves. Sidney pulled the covers up to their chins and wrapped an arm around her, feeling her body melt into his warmth. The room was silent except for the steady rhythm of their breathing, which synced up almost immediately.
They lay there, the moonlight playing across their faces, the lines of fatigue standing out in stark relief. Sidney studied Y/n's features, the way her eyelashes fanned out on her cheeks, the soft curve of her nose, the gentle slope of her neck. She was beautiful, even exhausted. He felt a pang of regret for the moments he had missed, the nights he had been away for his games, unable to share in the middle-of-the-night moments that had bonded them so deeply.
The sudden wail of their baby girl pierced the quiet, jolting them both awake. Sidney sat up, his heart racing. Y/n's eyes snapped open, and she started to push herself up, but he placed a firm, reassuring hand on her shoulder. "I've got this one," he whispered, his voice low and steady. She looked at him, a mix of surprise and relief in her eyes, and nodded, collapsing back onto the pillow. Asleep almost instantaneously.
Sidney slid out of bed, his bare feet landing softly on the cool floor. He knew the drill by heart now; tiptoe to the nursery, check on her, soothe her, lay her back down, and maybe get a little more sleep before the next round. The crib's mobile twirled gently in the dim light, casting shadows on the walls. He picked her up, her small body fitting perfectly into the crook of his arm, and cradled her close to his chest. Her cries grew quieter, and she nestled her head into the nook of his shoulder, seeking comfort. He rocked her gently, feeling the weight of her trust in his arms, and he was filled with a fierce love that seemed to surpass any tiredness he felt.
As he sat in the rocking chair, he couldn't help but think of the times he'd seen Y/n do this. The way she'd coo and whisper sweet nothings, the gentle strokes of her hand on their daughter's back, the way she'd rock back and forth with such a natural rhythm. It was moments like these that made him realize just how much she did for their little family. And it was moments like these that he realized he needed to do more to share the load of work.
After soothing their baby girl back to sleep, he gently placed her back into the crib, the soft cradle of the mattress welcoming her tiny form. As he backed away, her eyes fluttered for a moment, as if she was searching for the source of the movement. He held his breath, willing her to stay asleep. When she finally settled again, he let out a sigh of relief and turned to leave.
Sidney tiptoed back to his and Y/n’s shared bedroom, his steps measured so as not to disturb the peaceful silence. He slid into bed next to her, feeling the warmth of her body as she stirred slightly in her sleep. He watched her for a moment, her chest rising and falling evenly, and allowed himself a small smile.
Tumblr media
The digital clock next to the bed read 4:00 AM. He knew that this was likely not the last time the baby would wake up tonight. It was a cycle that had become all too familiar. But this time, something was different. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Y/n needed the rest more. He’d been up three times now, her twice. He didn’t want her up again if possible.
So, he made a decision.
He would stay in the nursery for the rest of the night.
Sidney carefully picked up the baby again and made his way to the rocking chair, the old oak creaking gently as he sat down. The chair had been a gift from Y/n's mother, a relic from her own parenting days, and it held a certain charm that filled Sidney with warmth. He tucked a blanket around both of them, the soft fabric brushing against his skin, and began to rock. The chair's steady motion was almost hypnotic, and he found himself slipping into a light doze, his eyes flickering open every few moments to check on their daughter.
The baby's breathing grew even, her tiny body relaxing in his embrace. He felt her heartbeat against his chest, a gentle reassurance that she was safe and loved. The room was bathed in the glow of the nightlight, casting a soft blue hue across the nursery. He studied her features, so much like Y/n's, and felt a swell of pride that washed away his weariness. He whispered a promise to her, one that only the two of them would ever know, to be the best father he could be for her.
"I'll always be here for you, little one," he murmured, his voice barely audible. "I'll protect you, love you, and support you, no matter what life throws our way." He kissed her forehead, feeling the warmth of her skin and breathing in her sweet baby scent. It was a promise that seemed to echo in the stillness of the room, a vow that filled him with purpose and resolve.
Her tiny hand curled around his finger, and he marveled at the way she held on so tightly. It was as if she understood the gravity of his words, as if she was already counting on him to be her rock. He stroked her cheek with his thumb, feeling the velvety softness of her skin. "You're going to have the best life, I promise," he whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "You'll never have to doubt how much you're loved by your momma, by me, or my teammates. The new ones that find their way onto the team will love you.”
Y/n's voice, soft and warm, floated into the nursery from the doorway. "You'll just have to figure out who loves you most," she said with a tired smile, her eyes still heavy with sleep. Sidney looked up to see her leaning against the doorframe, her silhouette framed by the dim hallway light. “Did you forget that this was on?” She shook the baby monitor. “Your chatter was interesting to wake up to and not find you in the bed.” She giggled.
"I guess I did forget," he laughed, the sound low and rich, bouncing off the walls of the quiet room. It was a rare moment of levity in the tapestry of their sleepless nights. The baby stirred slightly at the sound but didn't wake, her grip on Sidney's finger tightening. Y/n's smile grew, the shadows playing across her features as she padded closer.
"Thank you," she murmured, her voice a gentle caress in the night. "I know you're tired too, but you're so good at this." She leaned down to kiss him, her hand brushing against his cheek. He could feel the heavy truth of her gratitude, and it was more invigorating than any cup of coffee could ever be. “You have your hockey career that is so demanding, that supports us, and here you are still trying to take on the bulk when you can.” She kissed him once more.
Sidney beamed with happiness, his heart swelling with love for both his wife and their daughter. "This is nothing," he said, his voice earnest. "You're the real MVP here, Y/n. I just want to make sure you get some rest." He grinned at her, his eyes shining with affection. "I think I'll stay right here with my baby girl for the rest of the night."
Y/n returned his smile, her eyes sparkling with unshed tears. She knew Sidney was tired, too, but she couldn't deny the comfort his offer brought her. "Are you sure?" she asked, her voice a mere whisper. "You have practice tomorrow."
A simple nod and a genuine smile was all Sidney needed to give her and she was off to bed. Sidney however, was in the rocking chair until 8am holding his little girl happily and lovingly.

parent lore is crazy bc you’re telling me I’m 26 years old and I just found out tonight that my dad was sat right next to sidney crosby at a dinner/event in pittsburgh in 2009 and had an hour long conversation about traveling and family and hobbies with him over dinner and didn’t know who he was the whole time until the speaker introduced him and had him stand up and when he sits down my dad just goes “oh I’m sorry I had no idea” and he just replies “oh don’t worry about it”

Tumblr media
summary: the news finally hit Vivien. . . She’s going to be a mom!
what to expect series
an: this was originally an x reader but i changed it to x oc i’m sorry for the sudden change 😭
Tumblr media
September 2016
“When was the first day of your last menstrual period?”
Oh.
Vivien didn’t even remember the exact date. But before she could even give a guess, Sidney had spoke.
“August twenty seventh,” She looked Sidney with a confused expression, he was looking down at his phone. He could feel her stare so he looked up and showed her his text messages from her. “You texted me about getting you more pads.”
“Oh yeah . .” Vivien nodded. “So if my last period was in August, that means our baby is going to born . .”
“May twenty fifth!” The nice nurse, Sara, smiled. She had looked up from the pregnancy calculator wheel to see the new parents looking rather uneasy. Vivien freezes. Sidney’s grip on her hand tightens. The nurse’s smile falters just slightly as she reads their expressions.
“Oh—don’t worry! That’s just an estimate!” she adds quickly. “Babies come early all the time. Could be a week before!”
That does not help.
Sara, thinking they’re just overwhelmed by the moment, gives a little laugh. “I'll step out for a few minutes and give you two some time. I’ll be back in a bit to check vitals.”
She closes the door gently behind her. The silence is instant. Vivien turns her head to Sidney.
Vivien turns her head to Sidney. “May twenty-fifth,” she repeats, voice flat.
Sid rubs a hand down his face. “That’s during playoff season.”
“We have shit timing,” Vivien groaned.
Sid lets out a low whistle. “I mean. We’ve always had bad timing. Remember our first vacation together? We had to cancel our trip because your wisdom teeth started hurting.”
“Don’t remind me!” She playfully pushed his head away. “I still feel bad. I mean we were already at the hotel and that’s when my wisdom teeth decided to say ‘hey, let me ruin this for them!’”
“And don’t forget our honeymoon.” Sidney reminded. Vivien sighed. They had yet to officially go on their honeymoon even though their wedding had taken place in July. Vivien’s parents had fallen sick and her being an only child, she was the one to take care of them. Then came Vivien’s job, which was being a writer for an independent magazine. She would often work late and travel for interviews.
“Now,” He gestures vaguely to her belly. “Playoff baby.”
Vivien groaned yet again and covered her eyes with one hand. “How the hell are we gonna do this?”
Sidney leans down and kisses the back of her hand. “We’ll make it work.”
She stares at him like he’s insane. “You’re way too calm about this.”
“I’m not calm,” he says with a quiet laugh. “I’m terrified. But I’m also really, really excited.”
Vivien's mouth twitches. Her panic eases just a little. “May twenty-fifth,” she whispers again. “Holy shit, we’re going to be parents.”
“I hope she’s like you,” he murmured softly.
Vivien blinked. “She? What makes you think the baby’s a she?”
He shrugged, a lazy smile tugging at the corner of his mouth. “I don’t know. I just—feel it. I think I was born to be a girl dad.”
She narrowed her eyes, amused. “Oh yeah?”
“Yeah,” he said, leaning back a little and settling his hand gently on her belly. “I wanna learn how to braid hair. Be the dad who gets emotional at school plays. Paint tiny nails. Threaten teenage boys. Let her know how cool her old man is.” Vivien laughed under her breath, and Sid grinned a little wider.
“And I’m gonna call her Lovebug,” he added, almost too casually.
She blinked. “Lovebug?”
He looked sheepish, rubbing the back of his neck. “Well . . . our baby was made because we love each other . . . ” He raised an eyebrow. “Very much.”
Vivien snorted. “Are you giving me the birds and the bees speech right now?”
He laughed. “I mean . . . when a man and a woman love each other very much—”
“Oh my God, stop,” she groaned through her smile.
“—sometimes they end up having a playoff baby,” he continued anyway, grinning. “And apparently, a lot of women think they’ve got a stomach bug when they’re actually pregnant. So. You know. Lovebug. Sounds kinda cute, right?”
Vivien went quiet for a moment, her heart doing this weird somersault that made her eyes sting. She looked at him—at the man who’d been beside her through everything. Who’d once told her they had all the time in the world. Who now looked at her like she was carrying the whole future in her hands.
She squeezed his hand.
“Sounds perfect.”
Sidney smiled, wide and warm, and leaned down to kiss her forehead.
“You know this means we’re going to have a baby with us on our honeymoon, right?” Sidney mumbled against her forehead.
“Don’t ruin the moment.”

Decisions, Decisions | Sidney Crosby
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
summary: you begin to prepare for the birth of your baby and the chaos that ensues when Sidney learns about his child.
request: yes/no
warnings: swearing, legal age gap (reader is 23!)
word count: 3.32k
authors note: Luna told me to carry this story on so I did. I decided to make it into a three part series as I don’t know how to end this off (so let me know what you want to see) but I didn’t want this part to get too long. Regular italics are flashbacks and these bold indented lines are how many weeks pregnant the reader is.
previous part | final part
Tumblr media
It had been three weeks since you learnt you were pregnant.
10 weeks
You felt sick most mornings but he never noticed.
Sidney played oblivious to the fact that he had slept with you acting like that night had never happened.
Your belly has started to grow but it still wasn’t noticeable “you know peanut the size of a prune?” Connor laughed as he had been reading up about his future niece or nephew “I’d like peanut to let me keep my breakfast down.” You pointed out looking at your brother on the FaceTime call.
Connor had to admit that his heart broke for you going through his alone “he should know.” The hockey player pointed out hinting to the father of your baby.
It made you roll your eyes “until he talks to me I’m not telling him anything.” You mumbled fiddling with the end of your shirt.
The minute you learnt about the pregnancy you called Connor “hey I can’t really-“ he cut himself off the second he heard the sound of you crying “you okay?” Connor asked quickly growing alarmed.
You could barely breathe “I’m pregnant Con,” you announced feeling yourself growing sick at the realisation of what was happening.
Thankfully your brother was there to calm you down “he doesn’t know,” you added hyperventilating as your eyes went wide “who are you talking about?” Connor sat on his bed as he didn’t think you were with anyone at that moment.
“Sidney fucking Crosby.”
20 weeks
You were able to keep Sidney unaware of your baby as you had opted for wearing large sweaters which nobody cared about as it was December.
Sidney had stopped arguing with you as much as he picked up that something was off when you lost the energy to fight him “do you want to know the gender?” Your OB asked as she was staring at the ultrasound screen.
The older woman had a soft spot for you after you let it slip that the baby daddy didn’t know about his child “yes-no-maybe?” You shrugged watching the screen as you didn’t know what you wanted “yes, yes I do.” You finally settling on an answer.
She laughed taking the pictures for you “you are the proud mother to a baby girl,” she announced as you thought you’d be happy to hear that, you dreamed of having a daughter since you were young.
But now that it was a reality you couldn’t help but grow nervous thinking about her not knowing her father.
Surely this was going to be the push that you needed to tell Sidney the truth.
25 weeks
The day had finally arrived, not for you to give birth, but for the rematch against the Blackhawks. This time in Chicago.
You begged Connor to keep his mouth shut but as you watched him cross check Sidney, you knew your request had fallen on deaf ears.
Connor practically had smoke coming out of his ears he was so angry “should have kept your dick in your fucking pants.” He spat as he shoved his finger into the older man’s chest.
Sidney wanted to laugh as the rookie took him on “your sister tell you about everyone she sleeps with?” Sure Sidney knew that you were close to your brother but surely this crossed a line.
The Blackhawks player sucked at his teeth “she tells me about the ones who don’t step up.” Connor pointed out as he hit the older players shoulder before he skated off “what the hell is he talking about?” Sidney muttered to himself as he locked eyes with you on the bench.
He was definitely going to talk to you about it now.
From the moment the game ended you were trying to avoid Sidney, that worked until you got back to the hotel “y/n wait!” The Canadian called out as he saw you walking to your room.
Your legs tried to move faster as you tried to hold onto your notebooks that were in your hand “hey!” Sidney grumbled as he grabbed your hand spinning you around in the process.
The books slipped from your hand landing on the ground with your favourite ultrasound picture sliding right in front of Sidney’s feet.
You felt your heart drop as the boy leaned down to pick it up “is it mine?” His voice was soft as he looked up to see that the colour had drained from your face.
Sidney would have been panicking but this was like the final piece of the puzzle of the words that Connor had put into his head “Sid-” you sighed looking down at the ground “is this child fucking mine y/n!” The hockey player raised his voice causing you to step back with tears welling in your eyes.
Part of you felt like you needed to sit down “if you’re asking if it’s from that night then yes.” You mumbled as you nodded letting your hand slip under your sweater as you felt a kick.
Peanut had been enjoying her active moments during her fathers hockey games “and you didn’t think it was important to tell me?” Sidney let out a dry laugh as he ran his fingers down his jaw.
It was surprising that nobody was seen in the hall as you two had this conversation “you didn’t exactly make it sound like wanted to know about it.” You pointed out as you tucked your hair behind your ears.
The morning after you woke up to an empty bed, actually an empty apartment.
Sidney had slipped out whilst you were fast asleep “sorry y/n,” he mumbled pressing a kiss to your forehead.
There were no two ways about it, Sidney felt disgusting thinking about what he had done. You were this young beautiful girl who had her whole life ahead of her but here he was trying to screw it up. He thought you were beautiful, the kind of girl his parents would want him to bring home. Most of all he loved how you spoke to him, no girl that he’d ever met had that sent him back the shit that he gave you.
Four months ago when his mom came to town and finally got the chance to meet you it took her four minutes to realise that her son was in love with you.
And that was the reason he left. Sidney told himself he that he was doing the best thing for you, because deep down inside if he continued to tell himself that the life of a bachelor was for him then maybe he’d forget about you.
But that wasn’t what went through your mind as you were left hurt with no sign of life from the older boy.
Your pride got in the way and stopped you from ever asking him why he left you that night.
Sidney’s eyes pierced your soul as he contemplated telling you why he left “I had a right to know about this child,” he pointed out crossing his arms.
You scoffed as you rolled your eyes “just like I had a right to know where you were in the morning?” Your words hit him like a slap in his face.
When he remained silent you nodded pushing past him “look I don’t expect you to understand this or be on board.” You announced trying to be mature about the fact that you were growing his child in your belly “but I’ve survived this far and your daughter doesn’t need you if you’re going to not really give a shit about you.” You added tapping his shoulder as you watched him stare at the ultrasound picture in his hand.
With that you decided to leave him as you walked to away “daughter?” Sidney furrowed his eyebrows letting his thumb rub over the image of the baby “you’re gonna be a girl dad.” You nodded leaving him alone in the hall.
Tears formed in his eyes as he realised what his actions had meant for him.
Sidney was going to have to change things quickly.
26 weeks
Sidney sat in the cafe as he patiently waited for you to arrive “hey y/n,” he was clearly nervous as he saw you walk in.
You were wearing your new favourite sweater that had PITTSBURGH printed out in big bold yellow letters on the grey material “hi,” you mumbled awkwardly standing there as he clearly going for a hug “what did you want to talk about?” You asked sitting down in your seat.
He took in how gorgeous you looked even with no makeup on and your day five hair in a messy bun “look I want to be apart of our child’s life.” Sidney confessed softly not wanting possible fans from around him to hear what he had to say.
Your eyes went down to the menu “c’mon y/n I deserve a chance.” The hockey player reached out to place his hand on yours “how do I know you’re not going to leave one day when shit gets too hard?” You placed your hands on your lap still clearly hurt about what he had done all those months ago.
It had made you feel stupid offering your body up to someone in the way you had done for him only to then watch him leave before the sun came up “all I’m asking for is a second chance.” Sidney pleaded as he let his hands wrap around his coffee cup.
Connor’s voice was in your head reminding you of the fact that you were scared to do this alone “one chance, you fuck it up and you’re out Crosby.” Your warning reminded him that you were mad at him and that despite there being a child inside of you it wasn’t going to make everything okay.
“I won’t let you down Bedard.”
“I’m not the one you should be promising that to.”
28 weeks
Now almost everyone knew about your baby after one of the rookies saw you in nothing more than a vest and leggings when he walked into your office unannounced and let it slip to the rest of the team. The comments and questions were quickly shut down when Sidney threatened them all with extra laps, which of course you greatly appreciated.
But that didn’t matter as you were sat in the doctors office alone staring at the forms that you had to fill in “sorry I’m late,” Sidney’s loud entrance caused all of the expecting fathers in the waiting room jaws to drop.
He sat in the seat next to you as he placed his hand on your knee “I started thinking that you weren’t going to come.” You confessed drawing a smile from his lips “you lack faith in me y/n,” you wanted to hit him but you couldn’t when your doctor stuck her head out of her office “nice to see that the dad is joining us.” She sent you a wink as you walked into her office.
Sidney felt like a nervous wreck as he watched you pull your sweater over your belly “you’ve seen a whole lot more of me before Sid.” You pointed out sending him a smile which quickly left your face as the cold gel hit your stomach “felt that before y/n,” Sidney matched your teasing tone as you stuck your tongue out at him.
Your OB laughed as she watched the interaction between you two “want to see how peanut is doing?” She asked pulling your attention away from the boy in front of you.
The hockey player raised his eyebrows “peanut?” He cocked his head “hey you weren’t ever when I voted-” you were cut off when your baby popped up onto the screen.
“Peanut is perfect.”
30 weeks
Sidney had spent the last two weeks learning all about your child as he watched you begin nesting “should we get both?” Sidney asked holding up two different car seats.
A laugh left your lips as you shook your head “she does not need two car seats or two strollers.” You crossed your arms feeling like his wealth was truly showing.
The boy placed the box back on the stand “peanut deserves whatever she wants,” he pointed out as he made you laugh again “our daughter is gonna wrap you around her finger so tight it’s gonna hurt.” You smiled as you placed your hand on his shoulder looking at the one stroller you preferred more “peanut should get this one.” You added pointing at it.
He nodded picking the box up as he followed you to the next section “her and her mom already do,” Sidney mumbled to himself as he referred to your earlier comment.
You spun around furrowing your eyebrows “you say something?” You asked causing his eyes to go wide “nope.” Sidney was quick to shake his head desperately hoping that you didn’t hear what he said.
31 weeks
The last six weeks were spent for Sidney trying to win you back “I’m just asking for one meal!” Sidney complained as he had been trying to persuade you to go to dinner with him for the last fifteen minutes “look Sid the last thing I want is to wear some uncomfortable shoes and try to fit into a dress that would have fit me pre peanut.” You pointed out as you knew what the hockey player would plan.
It made the boy frown “what do you want to do then?” He asked wondering if that was how low you thought of him.
You pursed your lips together as you thought about it “pizza and a movie.” You also wanted a bubble bath but that didn’t feel like something that you should mention to Sidney especially after the last time he saw you naked you ended up with a baby in your belly.
It didn’t even take him a minute before he nodded “you got yourself a deal Bedard,” Sidney had to admit that it sounded peaceful having a movie night with you before little peanut was born.
31 weeks
Sidney walked into your apartment with a smile as he held the three boxes of pizza “didn’t know which one you wanted so I went with your favourites.” He explained as he placed the white boxes on the table “you don’t know my favourite pizza Crosby,” you pointed out knowing that it was not going to be something he’d just pick up on.
Instead the boy smirked “got Hawaiian because you’ve been craving pineapple, margarita because of your cheese craving, and pepperoni because who doesn’t like pepperoni?” Sidney looked proud of himself as he turned around to see that you were staring at him in awe “what?” He furrowed his eyebrows when you kept silent.
Surely it had to be the pregnancy hormones that made you think he was kissable in that moment “nothing,” you shook your head deciding to go for a piece of pizza instead as you hoped it would make your brain forget about the boy who stood next to you.
32 weeks
The moment Sidney’s parents learnt that they were going to be grandparents they were on the next flight into Pittsburgh “your mom already loves me Sid,” you reminded him as you watched the Canadian wipe his palms on his pants “I’m worried about what she’s gonna do to me.” Sidney mumbled feeling like he was going to throw up.
You sighed turning to let your whole body face him “look we have survived this long acting like we have it together so let’s just continue doing that?” You proposed as you wrapped your hands around his hoping that it would calm his nerves.
Sidney blinked his eyes as he thought about kissing you “right that was probably stupid of me to even suggest that.” You mumbled quickly retracting your hands as your eyes went wide.
He was quick to act as he hooked his fingers under your jaw bringing his lips to your own. At first you were shocked that he kissed you but then instead you just melted into the kiss groaning as his tongue slid across your lower lip “we’re here!” Sidney’s mother called out causing the two of you to jump away from each other.
Well that was a conversation for another day.
33 weeks
To say you were irritated was putting it lightly.
Alex had called you at almost midnight saying that Sidney was drunk at some bar flirting with a girl. The blonde had picked up on the car rides you were taking with Sidney as he took you to your doctor appointments, he knew Sidney was the father of your baby and he didn’t even have to ask “he’s back there.” The reason why he had called you was because Alex didn’t want Sidney screwing up the relationship that he had with you “Sidney!” You grumbled ready to hit him.
Your were in your leggings and some old training camp shirt that Sidney had given you “hey baby,” the boy smiled as he held his arms out so that he could hug you.
What he didn’t expect was that you’d reach out to slap him instead “I’ll let you deal with him,” the girl mumbled shaking her head as she left figuring that there were easier battles to fight than one that involved the pregnant woman.
The boy poured his lips as he cupped his cheek where you had hit him “what was that for?” He asked letting out a gasp as you pulled him through the crowd of people to the door “can you please grow up Sidney?” You begged wanting to have this conversation with a sober Sidney.
That seemed to do the trick as he nodded finally realising how sore his cheek was “you’ve got a hit on you Bedard,” he complained feeling his jaw throb.
You crossed your arms “what the hell was that Sid?” You asked as tears formed in your eyes.
Tonight you should’ve been watching reruns of the bachelor, not trying to deal with your drunken baby daddy “just wanted to have a fun night before the baby came,” Sidney confessed not seeing how stupid he sounded.
It took everything in you not to hit him for a second time that night “you don’t get to do things like that anymore,” you shook your head feeling like the biggest idiot in the world “to think that I thought you’d actually want me too.” You let out a laugh as tears formed in your eyes.
Sidney’s expressions softened “y/n,” he reached out to grab your hand but you were quick to pull away.
All of those memories preparing for peanuts arrival, the moments shopping, trying to build her crib together, seeing her little body grow in each scan, the way you’d grab Sidney’s hand and place it in your belly the second she kicked, all felt like they were getting thrown down the drain in that very moment.
So with all of the respect that you had left for yourself you tucked your hair behind your ears “I’m going to go and stay with my parents for a bit,” you had mentioned before that you wanted to go up to your families lake house before Peanut was born so that you could get some time in the sun beforehand.
Sidney nodded “thought you wanted me to come with you.” You had offered to bring him along as everyone was desperate to meet the man who your child was going to call her father.
You sniffled as you shook your head feeling a tear roll down your cheek “figure your shit out and when you do you know where to find me.” Your words weren’t nearly as harsh as they could have been when you placed a kiss on his cheek before you walked off leaving Sidney all alone on the street.
For some reason this really felt like he had fucked up this time.

request: sid at bee's high school graduation
requested by: @abbycole :)
bee peered through the curtains, trying to find her dad.
she was prepped in her graduation robe and cap over her dress, with her hair braided down her back - courtesy of the stylist she had for years.
it was finally the day of her high school graduation, which might not seem important to most people, but it was special for her. and her dad. it meant that the two of them made it this far. and it meant that they were going to be separated soon. with bee going all the way to california to study at stanford... it wasn't going to be easy.
but today, they didn't have to think of that. it was a day to celebrate and not think of the future and how little time they'd have left.
and then she saw her dad, sitting right up at the front row, making polite conversation with some of the dads around him, but she could tell he wanted to ignore them. he was just too nice for that.
bee snapped her head up at the sound of her name, before straightening up. she made her way across the stage, stopping by the principle and taking the diploma from her.
"congratulations," she smiled at bee, "you're going to great things, i know it."
"thank you," bee smiled back, unafraid of that statement. she was going to do great things, it was time she realized it.
she posed for a few pictures, laughing a little as she saw her dad ignore the other guys trying to talk to him (and maybe sneak an autograph). he took out his phone and snapped a few pictures of bee, giving her a thumbs up as she continued across the stage and down the stairs.
she waved at her dad once more, before rushing back to her seat to watch the rest of the ceremony. she clapped dutifully as every graduate was announced, even cheering as some of her friends walked down.
the ceremony zipped right past and the next thing she knew, her name was being called on to give the valedictorian speech.
she made her way to the stage again, smiling a little at everyone clapping and some of her friends cheering her on.
taking a deep breath, she began her speech. she talked about school and how she'd cherish the memories. stressing over her exams and tests, laughing with her friends in the hallways, winning games and celebrating by going to the mall afterwards. because that's what they were now: memories. she thanked her grandparents and her aunt, and then all of her 'uncles' who helped out - causing a few of them in the crowd to hoot in response.
"but most of all, i'd like to thank my dad," she looked up at him in the crowd. he was teary eyes and smiling, but bee knew he was proud of her. "everything i've done, he's supported me and loved me, more than two parents ever could. i wouldn't be here today, giving you all this lovely speech, if it wasn't for him. i may be his number one fan, but he's my biggest in return. thanks dad."
she finished off her speech with a few more words, before making her way down the stage. she took a detour to where her dad was sitting (how could she not), giving him a big hug.
"i'm so proud of you," he whispered, kissing the top of her head. she was wearing her heels, making them nearly the same height.
bee smiled at that, realizing just how much she'd grown - they'd both grown - over their time together. she really wouldn't have been here if it weren't for him.
they'd have the summer together, at least.
