I'm basing this off of seasons 1-3 but I feel like Buffy is the balance between Kendra and Faith.

When Kendra and Buffy were working together, Kendra was so rigid and trying to follow all official protocol instead of acting. It was up to Buffy to convince her to act now and report later. Kendra reigned Buffy in a bit and Buffy made Kendra more impulsive.

The opposite happens with Faith and Buffy. Buffy is more cautious, tries to convince Faith that they should talk to Giles, get help, retreat, etc. But Faith has none of it.

Kendra was initially too bound by the rules whereas Faith wasn't bound by any. It was up to Buffy to balance the two out.

i always see people talk about superhero being an odd thing for mike to say in season 4

but what about season 1?

at the very beginning, when we first see the party getting bullied, Mike tried to comfort Dustin by saying that his arm? thing? is cool, that hes like a superhero

So later, when he calls El a superhero, why is it different? It's not. He's sticking up for her because he doesn't like seeing people be ostracized, especially by his friends who he trusts. He even sounds annoyed when Lucas tries to insinuate it's anything but platonic, whereas typically when someone has a crush, theyll be flustered, or atleast less...this..
