its been enough time for me to stop gatekeeping and Immediately talk about how, in a human au, i choose to interpret the night in cars 1 where lightning and sally talk.

without hesitation and out of nowhere, sally is like well i can help you wash your hair in the sink right here! and she cant even process her offer until its already out of her mouth. he gets a kind of shocked look on his face and is like oh! okay. that’d be nice. and they both stand there awkwardly before one of them makes the first move (its sally; she quickly runs into the “back room aka her little apartment” to grab her shampoo)

lightning wanders around the counter, studies the stuff on her desk, and flinches when she reappears. he doesnt really know what do to so he just stands there and waits for instruction.

they get to talking, conversation Basically the same as it is in the movie, shes helping scrub the dirt out of his curly hair and its dawning on her that maybe hes not an awful person after all. maybe he Is a little misguided.

its a generally quiet scene, a majority of the light in the little office/lobby is from the streetlights outside, and its very comfortable. they get more comfortable as they chat, and its at this moment that she realizes maybe she even likes him.

the end of the conversation is the same, he thanks her for letting him stay and Also helping him feel a little cleaner considering he hasnt showered in what feels like years (its been like 3 days)

the next morning shes talking to flo and she thinks she can casually talk about how lightning is actually kind of nice and flos like ohhh honey ure so in love with him arent u. she immediately gets flustered and tries to deny it and all flo can do is give her the knowing motherly look of “u love him dont bullshit me!!!”

her and sallys conversation, though, kind of opens flos mind up to the idea of hearing lightning out — maybe he ISNT that bad.

his love for music has been around since . forever . not his fault he keeps getting pulled towards music themed things

he's been playing piano and ukulele for most of his life.\

i like to believe that "people of note" within the goc get music-related names, hence dc al fine is, well, dc al fine. he's ukulele bc a) he was small, b) he already played one anyway, c) he could be brought just about anywhere. i feel like more can be done with this but i dont have the metaphors for that yet. im not suzanne collins sadly . i'll make it its own post eventually

he hasn't caught up to new music in recent years, or even the years before that. he's been too isolated in the foundation and even the goc prior to be too exposed to new music.

he strikes me as like an 80s guy but i have no idea what thats actually supposed to mean.

he still sometimes writes music, mostly for himself, and it's just scraps. he doesnt take any of it seriously. he doesn't even have a keyboard to use

loosely related but he calls destruction his art because it's all he has left. he can't even really keep music anymore because he's not enough a fool to think that he's not still contained

he can sing! he never does anymore but he can! ukulele loved to sing, and i imagine he sounded more like will wood just because i think he should be able to sing song with five names or laplace's angel

i just think he was a lot more lively as ukulele and it reflected through music :]

he somehow figured out how to write everything in alto clef just to bully people. like i like to think the cipher goes by key. because right, usually the middle c is like Below the staff (?) in a treble clef, but is in the middle of an alto clef. then, the next key, probably G major/e minor (I think) would be the next set of letters after A-G, so H-N, and so on so forth . he probably made a better system than this (i'll make this its own post probably)

he's very talented on the piano, but mostly plays by ear since he's no longer as quick with reading. but like, i imagine he's talented in a will-wood-improvising-and-cooking type of way and not a classical-pianist-playing-chopin-and-liszt-and-tchaikovsky-from-memory way. i'm talking blackboxwarrior live where the variations feel like less like mistakes and more like seasoning and having fun. nothing wrong w classical pianists il yall

he fell in love w ukuleles especially during his goc era because he could easily bring it everywhere he went. and he probably had a bag for it too but put literally everything else inside except the ukulele itself

perfect pitch, but refuses to admit it. helps with the sanity sometimes, or lessens it. both, sometimes. please get him a piano.

i have this idea/possible au in my head and its been floating around for a while. it came to me when i realised that there were 5 lords in black and 5 nerdy prudes (including steph), and i thought what if these poor kids were each haunted by one of the LiB...

Ruth with Pokey, because of her love for theatre and dreams of being the star of a show. pokey would find her weak spot by offering her the role of a lifetime, her chance to be in the spotlight for once. i also have a hc for ruth that she has some form of ocd, and pokey has an affinity for everything to be perfect and in order, too.

Grace with Blinky, because her family and upbringing has taught her that everything she does in her life is under critical review. in grace's mind, she's always being watched anyways. she is always being judged or judging herself based on her actions and the "sins" she does/doesnt commit. honestly, she's so freaked out by doing the right thing at all times, she might already be watched by blinky.

Pete with Tinky, mostly because of that Spankoffski connection. of course, tinky wants to have the whole collection. ive thought a lot about how if ted is the time bastard, its likely that tinky would appoint his little brother as the space bastard. i hc pete to have a lot of social anxiety issues (im projecting) and believe me, it would be hell of a lot easier if space and time were on his side now and again.

the last two took some thinking. so bear with me.

Steph with Nibbly. not just because of nibblys "yum yum" line, or the very popular headcanon that steph's mother was honey queen (i still believe that she was, btw). but i think as the mayor's daughter, steph was raised to be very aware of her public image, that includes how she is perceived AND who she is associated with. before pete came into the picture, she probably had a lot of exes within the "cool kids" dating pool. someone she can be with for a few weeks to keep up her status, suck them dry until she couldn't bare to be with someone she didnt actually love, and then move onto the next. additionally, she probably has an idea in her head that she has to make herself "desirable" in order to keep up with the cool kids. between her hunger for attention, her father's hunger for success, and the overall high school hunger for popularity, nibbly would find a lot of places in steph to tap into.

lastly, Richie and Wiggly. and no, this has nothing to do with Jon playing both characters. richie, in my eyes, is a child at heart. not that he's immature or anything, but he just has a love for the simpler things. he likes anime and sci fi films. and, sure, he's smart and likes science, but he's not looking forward to college like his other nerdy friends. part of him wants to stay a kid forever, a feeling he would grow out of in time, but not before wiggly could take a stab at him. wiggly puts himself into a doll, for fucks sake. wiggly wants power and control, and richie wants his friends to stick around. wiggly wouldn't have to try very hard to befriend richie through his love of "childish" things, and from there he could "help" richie make sure his friends never, ever, leave.

im not sure how this would go, but the LiB each picking a different member of this friend group would cause a lot of competition down in the Black, and put a lot of strain on the relationships up in Hatchetfield.

It happens… about as dramatically as Price had expected.

Which is to say, hardly at all.

He’d almost feel frustrated if he didn’t pity both Ghost and Soap as much as he does.

Ghost had come to not long after Soap’s rescue, once Med-evac had arrived and he’d been hooked up to an IV. He’s groggy for a while, sure, but Price can tell he remembers what happened—he doesn’t need a hint, when he can see the longing looks Ghost gives Soap, who had to be chained up like a prisoner in order to keep things civil.

It takes Soap two days to snap out of the hunger-induced stupor. And within them, he does nothing but hiss and attempt to bite, nothing at all like the sergeant Price knows.

And when the vampire does return to Soap, an immense guilt etches into his face once informed of what had led them to this moment. Of what led them to keeping Soap bound and under close observation until he could finally be trusted again. It pains Price to see.

But what pains him more is the clear avoidance of both parties in the days following the incident. Ghost just about takes to his namesake, and Soap uses his superhuman senses to make sure there isn’t a chance they’re ever in the same room to begin with. Price has never seen Soap so quiet.

And he’s unfortunately all too aware the two would keep it this way forever if it came down to it.

Thankfully, Price knows better than to let that happen when Soap appears in his office asking to transfer units.

“I’m a danger to the team,” Soap says, head hung. He wrings his fingers tight enough for his knuckles to go white. “I cannae be trusted. I cannae—“

Price clears his throat to see an end to this spiral before it has the chance to begin. Soap’s mouth snaps shut. He squeezes his fingers tighter.

“Tell me, John,” Price says slowly, calmly. He feels only a little better about everything, seeing Soap visibly relax at the use of his name. “Has this ever happened before?”

Soap swallows. He finally looks up at Price, a sort of hollowness sitting beneath his eyes that the captain doesn’t think looks quite right. Price almost misses the minute shake of his head.

“And do you think, given the circumstances, this was your fault?”

The sergeant hesitates, this time. It’s only to be expected he blames himself, Price thinks, as much as evidence points to it not being his own mistake.

Price sighs. “Have you at least talked to Simon?”

Soap’s eyes widen. Price could’ve already guessed the answer to be no.

“I—he hates me,” Soap mutters. “I—“

“Did he tell you that himself?”

Silence rings through the office. Only the distant buzz of activity outside can be heard as the question cuts through Soap.

Soap’s arms fall limply to his sides. “No, he didn’t.”

Price folds his hands over his desk and its mess of paperwork, leaning back in his chair with the sense of a small victory.

“Then go speak to him before trying to jump ship,” Price advises. “I’m sure you know where to find him.”

Soap offers a stilted nod before turning on his heel and moving toward the door. He lingers a moment with his hand frozen on the doorknob like he means to add something, but ultimately decides against it, pushing out into the hall.

Once the door is closed again, Price deflates in his seat.

Sometimes he has to wonder if he’s really working with the best men the SAS has to offer.

You were kind of surprised how sweet he seemed, especially because of how almost stoic he was when planning for war (he has rbf to me)

He actually got really excited to talk about Demeter stuff, her roman variant was one he often had to work around at camp Jupiter.

So it was cool for him to get close with one of her kids.

You could talk about how you loved camp being so dependent on nature, the woods for protection, the strawberries that were always at lunch, etc

He was pretty excited about this because he always wanted camp Jupiter to be more self sufficient

He loves exchanging childhood stories with you (partly because he hated what it was like when he lost his memories)

He also loves hearing about your siblings

He will talk about his cool older sister thaila to you (will also tell her abt you because 'theyre punk too!')

I like to think Jace and Baela have been dating for a while, best friends to lovers. Mutual pining for a LONG TIME. But when they were just besties, Jace has his bisexual awakening (Freaks out crying because he's always had a crush on Baela and now he likes guys too and hes struggling with it) but he's got her and she helps him through it <333. Jace goes through the harrowing experience of exploring his sexuality and then when they hit college, I feel like Baela tells him shes always liked him (In an attempt to get over him I think so it doesn't ruin their friendship) but Jace is like "Ive been in love with you forever and no one compares" (Lots of crying and laughing about how stupid they've been lmao)

Then enter Cregan in college and Jace definitely falls in love and feels TERRIBLE about it. I don't think Jace is the type to flirt on purpose (especially not when he has his gorgeous girlfriend) but I think Cregan flirts with him (Of course not knowing about Baela at first). Jace definitely crashed out and admits crying to Baela that he's falling for this stupid good looking guy and he doesn't think its something he can stop. So they sit down, have a bigger conversation about adding someone to their relationship. Jace explains everything to Cregan, how he has a girlfriend and their rules if Cregan would like to date Jace. Maybe they all go out somewhere to hangout and talk about it, Baela and Cregan meet each other. Which I imagine they hit it off really well and Jace was stressed out the whole time.

I think it starts with Jace dating them both separately but after a few months, he definitely catches them making out (And he's sad they didn't invite him). I also think that polyamory and relationships like that were super normalized in Baela and Jace's families so it's not really surprising they go that way.

total side note: I do not have an extremely wide knowledge of polyamory (Despite being in a relationship like that lmao) and I know there are different types and everyone's different. So I'm basing it off what I know

Nod General and Romantic Headcanons

General

I feel like the movie didn’t emphasize this enough but Nod isn’t just a good flyer, he is one of, if not the, best.

I imagine he’s been on the back of a bird ever since he was little. Flying with his dad or with “Uncle” Ronin when they weren’t off fighting boggans, or even riding with other leafmen when his dad wasn’t around.

Nod probably grew up around leafmen his entire life, being in the barracks or following his dad around while he was on a shift. The other leafmen and women took to him like he was family and he was always seen with another soldier if he wasn’t with his mom or dad.

Probably was friends with other soldier’s kids and they got into all kinds of mischief, mostly bugging the older soldiers.

The day his dad and Ronin left for a seemingly routine recon mission, his dad left with a kiss to his mom and a ruffle to his hair. There was a tension in the air, unspoken acknowledgment between the adults that this time was different than before, but Nod didn’t bring up that he could see that.

When Ronin came back alone, with nothing but his father’s helmet and many bruises and cuts, Nod didn’t shed a tear.

He took the helmet as Ronin explained that his dad wasn’t coming back this time and stared at it in understanding, his face falling.

Nod didn’t even need Ronin to tell him that his father was gone when he came up to the door.

Nod was little when it happened so Ronin had taken charge of him early, but that didn’t make him any less rambunctious.

For a while, Nod was quiet, that was until he grew old enough to be unsupervised and all bets were off. It got especially bad right before Ronin started training him as a leafman. His behavior was actually the reason why Ronin enlisted him, because he was getting into trouble.

Loves animals. Wants all the pets, give him five minutes and he would’ve had Ozzie on his back kicking his leg.

Finn is sort of like his older brother and when they are both off duty, Finn takes time in annoying Nod, usually by messing with his hair or playfully shoving him.

Romantic

Goofy freaking tease. If he’s even half an inch (or whatever the heck tiny people use to measure height) taller than you, he’s calling you short forever now.

Is constantly holding things out of your reach or blocking your way, if you have to do something or need something, by principle he feels like he has to prevent you doing or getting whatever you need.

Cheesy dorky pick up lines. He has an entire index of them, sometimes he will go alphabetical. Finn has a list of his most used ones.

He will be taking you on flights all day every day. Hope you aren’t afraid of heights.

In all honesty though, he would be so excited to share his love of flying with you. He’s good with birds and would love for you to like flying as much as he does. If you don’t, thats ok, but he will give you puppy-dog eyes when you tell him you don’t want to fly today.

Tries to impress you all the time with his swordsmanship and status as a leafman, apparently he heard that people “like a guy in uniform” so he’s laying that on thick.

Even though it is when he isn’t trying at all that he impresses you the most, you won’t ever tell him that. He’s too cute when he’s talking about how to train a bird or fit a saddle and you could listen to him for hours.

That isn’t to say you aren’t impressed by him as a leafman. His agility is crazy and seeing him train or fight is a feat in itself. Just make sure you stay safe and he’ll let you watch him work all day.

Ronin teases the two of you. So does Finn. Nuff said. Finn likes to embarrass Nod in front of you.

“Oh have I told you about the time when Nod got scared by a caterpillar?” “FINN!”

Ronin encourages this, he’s the one that started it after all.

im v proud of the story bc i had sm fun writing it and thrillers are my favorite to write, so it means a lot fr. i left it open for interpretation but i did write it with the intent of hc not being a trustworthy character and reader being too clueless to realize lmao.

my interpretation is: hc did get himself in that situation, the entity being himself bc of his power, he has too much of it to handle, he was never to be trusted. he can’t handle NOT having control, ex: with mark when they had their argument, hc felt powerless therefore using everything he had to make a point but ended up effing himself and mark over. i’d also like to think their argument was about haechans change in demeanor and mark wanted to help him/address it but hc’s ego got in the way which is why he won’t explain a lot of details abt the argument to reader.

he ALWAYS gets what he wants and he will find a way to take what he thinks is his. he knew about readers presence at the carnival before he laid eyes on her bc he felt her energy and bc she was already vulnerable since the start of the story he saw her like a squeaky new toy. although he’s the cause of all of this, the sad part is, he really doesn’t know that he’s the problem. therefore he swears it has to be something else. that’s also why he was so attached to the spellbook bc that’s his source for everything.

it goes to show that no matter if reader was there or not he will always find himself in a repetitive cycle of something, whether it was the circus or not (the new cycle being forever trapped with reader and the previous cycle of being addicted to power and not being able to stop).

he’s immune to the mirror maze bc everything was built off his own magic so he won’t be able to see anything that he’s already seen. he’s not able to break the curse on his own bc he’s truly not aware tht he did this to himself.

the souls like jeno, chenle, jaemin, and readers parents are all lost spirits from the town who unfortunately are being used by hc.

reader was able to see everything bc of her vulnerable state and bc of the affects of the blood moon. it could’ve happened to anyone, she was just unlucky. i kinda wanted to show that reader has horrible luck.

reader was lured into hc’s world to show they have always been equally cursed in life which is why their connection is so strong.

but then again thats all my interpretation. i say just bc i wrote it doesn’t mean it has to be 100% true. i didn’t address a lot of that in the story bc theres so many amazing plotlines that could fit into it, i want everyone to have their own version.
