this is cute kayden does she has big ol eyes well compared and too him she does :3!! matthew has tiny little pupils so he cant really do it...and he shant...and or cant when kayden does it its not really effective she just makes a sad little face with big ol eyes and sometimes it works he either shoves her aside a little itty bit jokingly or sighs and groans AND YAY HE DOES IT its like 60% effective...matthew tries to do it when kayden wakes up for work at the cd store sometimes...and gives her wide ol eyes and it 80% works on her she feels so bad and just slowly curls up in bed with him and stuff :3!!! that's really the only time he will use those eyes or if hes asking her to watch a musical with her for like a movie night lul

Amphibia — I love this show SO much! The dynamics between Sasha, Anne and Marcy are immaculate and play off of the frogs, toads and newts so well; you have to watch this show if you haven’t yet. This goes for the whole list BTW. ^^

Owl House — I love this show, but I feel less of a connection than Amphibia because I watched Amphibia first ;-; THE BEST thing about this show is the characters. Amity, Raine, Hunter, Luz and Gus are the best characters IMO.

Walten Files — Woah, if you’re reading this part this probably means you at least know what this is. Yeah that analog horror videos on YouTube. Danganrompa Edens Garden — OOH THE PROLOGUE LOOKED SO GOOD. If you’re looking for a alternative from the problematic air around the Main Danganrompa games, look no further than this game. Inanimate Insanity — POSSIBLY MY OLDEST AND FIRST HYPER-FIXATION?? Bright lights forever! Anyway,,, Plot and Pacing: 2nd Season. Quality: 3rd Season. Sorry not sorry, the First season is problematic and unfunny. Anyway Cabby can marry me. (/hj) This animated YouTube series is so good!

disney wonderfulworlds: if you LOVE disney as much as i do you'll love this game!! take homescapes and make it ✨disney✨ you can collect different characters and make the different parks based off of them!! ><

kitty cat resort: this ones a little similar to dear my cat the graphics are just as beautiful too!! but its a different style and you can craft them toys!! YOU CAN DRESS THEM UP TOO!!! this game is just overall so adorable^^

the dogs collector: AHHH this one got me hooked the first hour into playing it!! its like a little hotel for dogs :(( you just feed them n decorate the space with the items you collect all while collecting new and rare breeds of dogs!! and theres mini games you can play to help gain money!! ><

the cats collector: this ones like the dogs collector just with cats!! this is the first one that came out so its an older version but so so cute non the less!! and this one has even more mini games!!

tsuki adventure: this game is so so peaceful and relaxing!! its a story based game that follows our little friend tsuki living his new free life in the countryside and meet a whole bunch of animals!! this game is filled with mini games too!! its just overall an amazing game!

tsuki's odyssey: this one follows the same little bun but instead of exploring the countryside you get to decorate it and make it look the way you'd like!! its super cute and it just makes me so happy!!

animal crossing pocket camp: i love love LOVE animal crossing so anywhere i can see those cute lil villagers and decorate is a game for me!! >:3

sumikko farm: i have been obsessed with these little characters for what feels like forever!! they make me so nostalgic!! so getting to build a little farm with them and dress them up makes me so so happy :'))

Hey Cat!! I hope you're doing well as always ! 💖 AHHHH huhu I closed the form last Sunday since I've collected enough responses dy! (NOOOOOOOO ToT) I got a total of 221 responses at the end of the week, which is 3x the amount I initially needed! :o I'm beyond grateful and appreciative ToT I've cleaned the data and have proceeded to run some data analysis, but I ran into an issue whereby the scores on the subscales are equal (it has never been reported in past studies! :O) so I'm waiting for my supervisor's feedback on how to proceed. Hopefully it's nothing too serious ToT

Hehe finance is interesting indeed! I just started reading a book on finance for young adults (Rich Dad Poor Dad) and I look forward to learning more from the author's tips! The Coursera introductory course has also made financial terms a lil more familiar, even though it's just the basics and it's really helped w my financial literacy 🥺 I can push myself to study but it's also the numbers and calculations I'm worried of cuz I am rly a nong (idiot) when it comes to numbers * - * it runs in the genes I guess AHAHAHAHA my mom and sister aren't good at numbers either keke

Aww I'm glad yr professor made financial accounting enjoyable and a fruitful experience for you! Some lecturers / professors rly just have that spark in them to inspire ppl and I'm blessed to be surrounded by a bunch of em in the psych department!🥺😭 it truly makes a difference and I'm sure we both are living proofs of that!

After debating for a while, I've decided not to take a minor mainly because I'm so tired HAHAHAHAHAHA and I'll just do my own self-studying and exploration whilst working! Go out and explore the world, live life! Whilst ironically still staying in my room because of the COVID-19 situation in our country (cases are abt 20+k every day :') ) My proposal has been finalized and it's been accepted! It's just that some elements of my proposal is also part of my actual report, so I have some guidance to refer to in terms of structure! :3 and yes don't worry! I got plenty (sometimes a lil too much) rest during the sem break whilst remaining productive! Plus, I got to catch up w some friends and had game nights (maybe too much of game nights hehe) and movie nights w my friends which was truly refreshing! Also cuz I might not see a lot of them again after we graduate so we gotta cherish every moment 🥺😭

Also, the vaccine has fixed my sleep schedule HEHE (another perk of getting vaccination :3) I got some rly good rest and managed to reset my usual sleeping time, thank you science ToT oooo I see I see, we've had cases of nurses injecting empty syringes hence the recording :( but GHIOGHWEOGIOHW I could never do that, I can feel the liquid entering me as it is so that's good enough ToT (* plays Love Talk * I can feel it coming)

Always glad and honored to have you onboard! and AHAHAHAH the contractions about to start soon 👀 I enjoy talking to you huhu you're such a sweet and supportive person 💖🥺🥰😙 huhu for my period cramps, I've been having them since I was 12 ToT my doctor prescribed me some panadols but sometimes I can't even swallow them cuz I'd puke them out ToT I've settled w heatpacks to reduce my reliance on medicine, but I finally got some upgraded and safe to eat medicine from my gynae! She said it's fine to take it every month to keep my womb healthy and apparently my ms. lil uterus is suffering from inflammation, hence the super crazy bedridden cramps :( the upgraded medicine worked for a while, but after time it kinda didn't help either :/ but I realised that exercise rly does wonders to reduce the cramp too (gynae also recommended exercising) so i take walks and do my back stretches more frequently now! my period in the previous months (2 months ago) have been almost painless and bearable, it's so weird not seeing my bedridden ._. when I was in high school, there would always be a day in every month in which I don't attend classes, and that's solely because of my cramps. It just isn't worth suffering in school, plus we don't have a sick room :/ I hope the pain continues to subside! ToT

And ayy internship is also working experience, yr advice would be of great help to me regardless! 🥺 oh yes, I always remind myself that interviews are similar to the speaking test I took for my Cambridge English exams! That kinda help calm my nerves down a lil, but w nerves comes bigger smiles, so I guess it takes on a rather practical form of coping mechanism (sublimation) AHAHAHAHA

WAAAA WHAT A QUEEN you got an offer from every interview?? I aspire to be like you! 💖🥺🥰 huhu skill wise I believe I have lots to prepare esp in terms of case studies, and I perform rly poorly on certain assessments (*ehem * esp those concerning numbers) so I took the chance to study a lil during sem break too ToT but noted on that! I will work on that too and try to maintain that me element in interviews and overall just be myself keke

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL YOUR KIND COMPLIMENTS 😭😭💗💗 there were many late hours spent in the art studio to finish them, but i'm really happy with the end products :') i thought light bulbs are an interesting subject to do, and my prof said that cutting out circular objects or sculpting them is the most difficult since they're made up curves and not straight lines and i was like ok bet i'm gonna do it aND I'M SO GLAD I DID BECAUSE I REALLY LIKE THEM 🥺 and i love honey bees !!! that's why i decided to paint them and we were supposed to paint them in a combined style of two artists so i tried monet's impressionist style with the short brush strokes and pop art triptych style like marjorie strider 💕

your school is too hard 😭 you need more than just 3 months of break !!! 😡 we get a week off for thanksgiving in fall semester and a week off for spring break in spring semester too and then the month long winter break and three month summer break. and we have the one day holidays off too like labor day, memorial day, etc. i can't believe they give you so little time off after working so hard???

aaaa yes i did !! i was really surprised that i got an offer from them all because at the time, i was not in the right major and i think i was one of the most underqualified applicants 🤧 one person who interviewed me asked why i withdrew from my engr physics class and i explained it in a kinda funny way but in my head, i was like "oof i'm not gonna get this offer anymore" but then he laughed at my response and told me about how his prof told him he should drop a guitar class he was taking because he was doing very poorly and we bonded over that aklsjdhfkals omg how do interviews for psych jobs go? do you have to discuss a lot of case studies? do they give you a list of possible case studies they'll ask about? :o what sort of assessments do you have to do? good luck on all of your interviews, honey bee 💛 i'm rooting for you, you're gonna do amazing !!!! 💘

yessss I love She-Ra! They're all actually remakes from old TV shows my parents watched when they were younger, and now Netflix remakes them with amazing graphics!! I also love Voltron (it's actually my favourite), and I was really into it before my anime phase as well xD I hope you're able to watch them sometime! What were you into, before anime?

And oh, love! How was your day? Mine was okay. I woke up really early and studied (and kinda burnt myself out) so I slept for an hour after studying for five. And then I had another meeting, and I watched an episode of money heist xD this may be off topic, but my Leo club is collaborating with three others from different schools and we're doing a project together! It's kinda like a tutor thingy, and there's 8 tutors who'll have 1 and a half hour slots to teach their specific subjects. I'm a tutor too, and my subject's English, so I'm really excited. I hope I'll be able to teach well, so lol, fingers crossed xD

The party was in full swing when Tae and I had arrived. Not more than an hour and a red solo cup accompanied by a few shots later, me and my best friend were separated. While Taehyung was dragged off by Bobby, I was left to my own devices, I hated being alone at parties. That in itself was an oxymoron, the house and backyard were crawling with people, practically shoulder to shoulder. Tae was always my safety net, I could always rely on him to be there for me.

“Look poor baby is lost without her Knight in Shining Armor Taehyung,” a slightly drunk Minji slurred.

“Minji!,” her friend scolded.

“What it’s true,’ Minji giggled.

I finally turned to where the voice was coming from.

“Do we have a problem Minji?” I asked her sweetly after taking a sip from my cup. The alcohol stinging my throat but giving me the courage to stand up to one of the town’s most insufferable girls.

“You bet we have a problem,” Minji scoffed.

“And that would be?” I continued in a honeyed voice, being thoroughly grossed out by myself.

“As if you didn’t know,” she handed her drink to her friend and moved to stand right in front of me. Her threatening personality couldn’t make up for her lacking height. “Kim Taehyung.”

“What about Tae?” I questioned.

“I’ve been after him for most of the year and he’s too far up your ass to notice.” She retorted.

“What’s your point Minji?” I asked, already tired of this conversation. It was girls like her that made me stay home from parties like this. I was mentally cursing Tae for leaving me alone.

“My point is,” she straightened up and firmly planted a hand on her hip trying to assert dominance. “I think it’s time for you to let go of Taehyung.”

I tipped the cup up to my lips, downing the rest of it’s contents.

“Minji, I think it’s time that you realize that not everyone wants to take the town’s tart for a ride.” The look on her face was priceless. “And maybe if you actually had half a brain, you’d realize that Tae doens’t go for the easy lays nor does he like girls lacking in decent personalities. So do us all a favor, stop trying.” I replied with a sweet smile. 

Minji was completely red in the face, angered by what I had to say. I braced myself for the slap I knew was coming from her now raised hand but someone stopped her.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” a deep but familiar voice said.

“And why the fuck not?” she asked, seething with rage.

“This girl has a mean right hook and I just wouldn’t,” he continued. I knew that voice but I couldn’t believe that he was right in front of me.

“Changkyun?!” I squealed closing the space between the two of us, enveloping him in a hug.

“Hey Y/n,” he chuckled,

“What are you doing here?” I asked, puzzled by his return after so many years away.

“It’s good to see you too,” he laughed.

Out of the corner of my sight, I watched as Minji snatched her cup from her friend and shrunk away in defeat. In some ways I felt sorry for her but then I remembered how awful she was.

“My mom decided that the city life wasn’t for her so...,” he shrugged

“So does that mean you’re back back?” I inquired.

“It looks that way,” he grinned down at me. Once I let go of him he asked me to get a drink with him.

I followed him to the kitchen, taking in his changed appearance. He surely didn’t have defined muscles nor did he fill out a pair of tight jeans as well as he did these days it seemed. Although it had only been a few years, he grew up well and I couldn’t stop staring.

“Take a picture, it’ll last longer,” Changkyun teased, startling me and bringing a blush to my cheeks.

“Sorry,” I meekly apologized.

“Don’t be, I couldn’t stop staring at you either when I first spotted you.” He winked before turning to pour both of us a drink as well as a shot.

His fingers grazed mine as he handed me the shot glass and booze filled cup.

“Bottoms up,” he raised his shot to mine. I tipped back the tiny glass and almost spit it back out. Changkyun laughed before quickly handing me a wedge of lime to suck on. “Here,” he said.

The lime did little to mask the sharp and bitter taste of tequila, so I took a gulp of the drink he handed me.

“Ugh, tequila?” I groaned.

“What not your drink?” he asked completely unaffected by the tequila.

“God no,” I said as the sting finally wore off.

“What is your drink then?” he questioned.

“I uh, don’t really have one.” I answered and took another sip of my drink. I could feel the previous drinks and shots finally take effect. It was early into the night, I needed to pace yourself. “I don’t really drink.”

“Then what are you doing now?” he smirked.

“Still a smartass I see,” I laughed and shrugged. “I mean yeah I’ve drank before, it’s just not my thing.” 

“Ahhh still a goody- two shoes I see,” he mocked and winced when I playfully smacked him on the arm. “What was that for?”

“You know damn well what that was for,” I retorted. He laughed and turned to pour another shot.

“Cheers,” I murmured and raised my shot to his, clinking glasses. This time the burn wasn’t that bad but the house started to feel like a sauna. I fanned myself with a few waves of my hand.

“Wanna go outside?” He asked.

“Oh god yes please,” I quickly answered and he grabbed me by the hand to lead me to a cooler environment.

The feeling of his hand in mine brought back so many memories. I couldn’t tell if it was the liquor or if it was the fact that my first boyfriend was back that had me feeling some type of way. Changkyun looked back at me with a smile and my stomach flip-flopped with butterflies.

It was going to be a long night.

Changkyun and I had more than made up for lost time, we both sat outside on a bench and caught up while everyone around us got piss drunk. The both of us had paced ourselves on drinks, I was pleasantly tipsy while we continued talking.

“So tell me,” he began. 

“About?” I asked with a raise of my eyebrows.

“Boyfriends,” he stated.

“What about them?” I responded with an eyeroll.

“Do you have one?” he asked and looked at me like I were crazy when I laughed. “What?”

“Boyfriends? Me?” I emptied my cup and set it down. “Nahhh. You were the only one.”

“I find that hard to believe,” he said.

“Why?” I scoffed.

“What do you mean why?” he lightly laughed at my expression. “Well I mean, even though it’s only been a few years,” he paused trying to find the right words. “I thought you were beautiful back then,”

“And now?” I asked curious of what he was going to say.

“Absolutely breathtaking.” he said looking down at the cup in his hands.

“Yeah right,” I couldn’t help but snort and bumped his shoulder with mine. “Liar.”

“I’m not lying.” He looked up at me and for some reason I couldn’t handle his gaze. “You’re still you but you’ve surpassed beautiful. You seem more confident with the way you walk, talk and dress. Even this new hair style suits you.” He confessed. 

Changkyun and his words left me speechless. My eyes finally met his and in that moment he was leaning closer to me as if he was going to kiss me.

“Changkyun is that you man?!” Jinyoung interrupted with a shout. “Holy shit! That is you! Long time no see! What have you been up to?”

“We’ll pick this up later?” Changkyun asked me. “Save a dance for me yeah?” He asked before getting up to greet his old friend.

Taehyung’s pov

Taehyung knew Y/n wasn’t really fond of being left alone at parties, let’s be real she wasn’t fond of parties at all, which is why he felt so bad when Bobby dragged him off.

“Tae! About time man! Come, I’ve got something to show you,” Bobby more than enthusiastically exclaimed, with a bit of a slur. He definitely had a head start on drinking.

“What is it?” Taehyung asked. “I can’t leave y/n alone for too long.”

“She’ll be fine Tae.” He said while walking towards his room which was in the farthest part of the house. “My friend’s brother works with this software company and he brought me a beta of a new game. It has something to do with zombies, I think.”

Tae’s ears perked up at ‘new game’. He was an absolute nerd with games, if not THE nerdiest gamer in his circle of friends. When he wasn’t hanging out with Y/n, he was usually at home or playing games with Jimin at his place or the local arcade.

“Zombies you say?” He asked, obviously intrigued.

“I knew that would draw you in, I haven’t had the chance to play it yet. I heard the graphics in this game is amazing though” Bobby was without a doubt the most excited one for this game, he kept going on and on about what he’s heard about said game. Bobby sat on the floor in front of his tv and started up his xbox one his parents got him for graduation. Taehyung dragged the bean bag chair he’s had since forever over and plopped down onto it. Even though he was excited about this game, he couldn’t help feel bad that he left Y/n all alone. In the back of his mind he was wondering what she was up to?

“Tae? Did you hear me?” Bobby said bringing his attention to the controller he was waving in front of Tae’s face.

“Oh sorry, I was just thinking about something,” he apologized before grabbing the controller and turning it on.

“It’s all good dude.” He turned back towards the tv and continued setting the game up. 

Taehyung soon forgot about the party and Y/n, not intentionally of course, becoming so immersed in the game. Bobby was right, the graphics were pretty stellar, even for it being a beta game. He was completely unaware of how much time had passed, it wasn’t until a drunken couple crashed through the open doorway as they were sloppily hooking up, that Tae realized what time it was. 1:36 and that he had a few unread texts from Y/n

11:28 [Y/n]: Tae! You missed it! I totally stood up to Minji!

11:28 [Y/n]: It was pretty badass!

12:30 [Y/n]: Where are you?

“Oh shit! Sorry, I thought this room was empty,” the guy slightly slurred.

“Yah! Sehun! Get out!” Bobby yelled, although he didn't need to since they were already on their way out.

“I think I’m gonna get some air out on the balcony, you keep playing,” he told his friend. As Tae slid the door open, stepping out onto the balcony, out of the stuffy room and into the fresh air. His gaze drifted towards all the familiar faces and a few he hadn’t recognized. Before too long, Taehyung’s eyes landed on the only person that mattered, Y/n, and she wasn’t alone. She was standing with some guy, he couldn’t make out who it was since his back was turned towards him.

Something in his chest wavered, it was an odd feeling really. Like a heavy weight nestled right in where his heart was. Taehyung suddenly felt the need to go to you. He wasn’t possessive by any means but lately he felt the need to be the only guy in your presence. His heart fluttered every time you touched him, whether it be your fingers tugging on the sleeve of his shirt to get his attention, or when you laid your head on his shoulder and he got a whiff of your raspberry-vanilla shampoo. His heart began racing every time you intertwined your fingers with his. Was it possible that Taehyung was falling for you, his best friend? 

Taehyung sighed, exhaling a heavy breath he hadn’t noticed he had been holding in. He wouldn’t be lying if he hadn’t thought about you before like that, as someone who was more than a friend. Sure there were times where they were  on the couch when your dad wasn’t home and he pressed a kiss to the side of your head, or times when you left no space between them as they were cuddled up in your bed. Moments like those made butterflies swirl around in his entire body, he wondered if it was like that for you. He shook his head and turned back towards the sliding glass door, bypassing all of his friends who asked where he was going, he needed to get to you.

Taehyung shuffled through the crowd of party-goers that were inside the house, mumbling a ‘sorry’ or ‘excuse me’ every time he bumped into someone. He made a pit-stop in the kitchen to take a shot of liquid courage, aka vodka. Pushing his way out the crowded doorway, he had his eyes on you and the person you were with.

Stopping dead in his tracks as a slightly intoxicated Minji stood in his way. “Hey Tae,” she said in a voice that was sickeningly sweet.

“What’s up Minji?” Tae asked with a rather bored, yet impatient expression.

“You are just the person I was looking for,” she reached up to brush the fringe away from his face, only for him to shake his hair back into place. “Wanna dance?”

“With you?” Tae grinned as she nodded. “No.”

Her face twisted into a shocked expression. “And why the hell not?”

“Because you’re an awful person Minji.” Taehyung said without hesitation.

She shrank back as if she had been hit, eyes glowed with anger as Taehyung left her right in that spot.He walked over towards you just as the guy you were talking with turned to leave. Tae had to do a double-take, was that Changkyun?

Your POV

“Tae! Where have you been?!” I nearly shouted.

“I was - never mind that.” He looked at me with a raised eyebrow, thumb pointing over his shoulder. “Was that...?”

“Changkyun? Yep.” I nodded at Tae and took a sip from my cup.

“Is he back back or...?” The way he asked left me confused. Why did he care?

“It looks that way.” I replied with a shrug.

Taehyung looked less than enthused with my former flame suddenly being back in town. He physically shook his head as if he was trying to get rid of the thoughts running in his head.

“Look I need to talk to you about something.” Tae said with a slightly uneasy tone.

“Yeah, sure what is it?” I asked smiling up at him, but the way his features contorted in what crossed me as confusion, didn’t settle with me so well. “Is everything okay?”

“Uhmm,” he reached up to scratch at the back of his head. “Well lately I - I have, I mean I think,” Tae was never one who usually fumbled over his words.

“What is it Tae?” I frowned at him. “You okay?”

“Yeah, yeah I’m uh fine. I - I just don’t know how to say this.” He nervously stammered.

“Just say it,” I replied in a much more collected manner.

“It’s just that lately, umm I’ve been feeling,” he paused a moment and stared at me directly in the eyes, which calmed him. I was never fond of the color of my eyes, I once said brown was a boring color to have, that my eyes were ordinary. But Tae never felt that way, he told me he  thought they were beyond magnificent. They were like copper against honey, the feeling of coming inside from the cold and wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on the sofa. They were breathtakingly beautiful, just like my entire being. At the time I thought nothing of it, but now?

“Tae?” My voice rang out and broke his chain of thought.

“Oh fuck it,” Taehyung mumbled before he cupped my cheeks in the palms of his hands, his thumbs caressing the apples of my heated cheeks. I had no time to register what was happening as he closed the distance between the two of us. The moment his lips brushed against mine, I dropped the cup I was holding, the liquid contents splashing the both of our shoes, but I could care less. My hands instantaneously reached out to grasp at the fabric of his shirt, the thrumming sound of my heartbeat drowned out the noise around us. A content, yet shaky sigh escaped his lips once he pulled back from me.

““Y/n - I’m in lo-,” Taehyung began but was interrupted, making him drop his hands away and hastily step away from me.

“Changkyun! Hi!” I said much louder than you meant, obviously caught off guard.

“Long time no see Taehyung,” my former boyfriend patted Tae on his shoulder. “You still owe me dance Y/n.”

I was numb to my surroundings, the kiss with Taehyung left me utterly shocked, it wasn’t like any other kiss I’ve ever had. The reappearance of my first and only boyfriend, the only boy I’ve ever loved and truly felt for, all of this was too much for me. I looked back and forth between the two boys, both wanting my undivided attention, how was I supposed to choose?

Should be noted I've never seen Pirates of the Caribbean. So I'm a little lost on all this.

Super Mariothon: Super Mario Bros.

'Tis Drew, with the original Super Mario Brothers!

Ahhh yes, SMB1, the starting point for the franchise, the root of the great branching tree. But what can be said about this promethean titan of gaming, this foundation upon which our castles are built, this icon, not just a video game but The Video Game? What is *left* to be said?

Well...

First of all, Circe and I are playing the Super Mario All-Stars version of the game. Super Mario All-Stars was released on the Super Nintendo in 1993 - most notably as a pack-in with Super Mario World and an SNES console, which is the version I had in the days of my youth. It contained Super Mario Bros., the American Super Mario Bros. 2, the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 (as "The Lost Levels"), and Super Mario Bros. 3, with graphics and sound updates, save-file capability, and a lot of other little neat tweaks. We're going to go full All-Stars for the marathon, 'cause heck yeah personal nostalgia.

And wow, a *ton* of care was put into this version. The music and sound effects are all amazing, the sprites are rich and detailed, there's a bunch of teeny tiny quality-of-life things... There's a lovely castle background in World 8-3 that literally only appears there, just for the flavor and the anticipation of getting close to Bowser's true domain. Every "your princess is in another castle" has a different animation, for Pete's sake. This is one of the best ports I've seen, period, and from memory, the other three are just as good.

As for the game itself... it's interesting. People talk a lot about how well it's designed-- but they mostly talk about how well World 1-1 is designed. How it teaches the player how to play thru example, how each mistake sets you up for a new success, how it's instantly memorable and ultimately classic. And that's all true, but the implication is that you know all you need to after that, or at least after a couple more levels like that, and once you're familiar with the water levels and the cave levels and how Bowser works, the rest of the game is just kind of a generically very good platformer.

But Super Mario Bros. keeps introducing new concepts and new enemies - as a game with thirty-two total levels has to, to keep up the interest and variety. And it repeatedly uses the same type of conveyance to show you how to interact with these new concepts. Lakitu, the famous enemy who drops more enemies (and gets your car out of pits) first shows up in World 4-1, in a wide-open space with no other enemies that allows you to dodge the Spinies he drops before having to deal with them alongside other obstacles. The first Bullet Bill you meet, in World 5-1, is right at the end of a flat stretch with just a few other enemies before, easily observed, and jumping atop it is the obvious step to avoid the pit right after - and the next one includes a devious little trap, a jump that will seemingly get you to safety but instead hits an invisible block, forcing you to step up your strategy.

And after it introduces each tool, it starts using them in different ways, remixing them, combining them, and just putting them in different contexts. Even a Goomba can present a new challenge when you put it on a set of stairs, to say nothing of Bullet Bills stacked one on top of another flying by while you're dodging a Paratroopa cheerfully bouncing along. Heck, all four levels of World 7 use the same setup as their counterparts in World 1, but remixed to use all the skills you've collected since then. An early NES cart only had so much room for sprites and AI routines, and Super Mario Bros. uses the ones it has to the fullest - leaving room for little flourishes, like the rampart-y background tiles in World 8-3 that inspired the lovely embellishments in Super Mario All-Stars.

This is not to say that the game is perfect, and it's interesting to find what's flawed, from a modern perspective. The difficulty ramps up in the last two worlds in ways that aren't always fair - but I'll let Circe cover that. Some things aren't adequately signposted - though the All-Stars version helps there, adding in little sonic cues. And there's a certain quarter-eating sensibility left over from the arcade days that can lead to losing a lot of your progress if you mess up - but the All-Stars version helps there too, putting checkpoints in the middle of a lot of levels so you don't have to start over.

It's not a perfect game, but it's already a really good one, with lessons for designers today. And future games will keep building on this...

Therepy for Me, Myself, and I.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure this is public but hey, I don’t mind if others read what I write because who knows, perhaps it can help others who sturggling with the same thing as I am. So, to put some context, I am seeing a therapist for depression so she has tasked me writing a journal so here it isI guess...I post withich is basically me word vomiting on the page and not even paying attention to grammar and all tha fun stuff. This is me just typling my word of though and putting myself out there. I guess she started out by saying I should be tahnkful for 5 things each day so here goes 1. Peaches- I adore peaches...Peach yogurt to be more precise ut peaches in general are great. They’re just os sweet and suclant. Great word...succilant. Is that how you spell it. I guess I won’t know until my computer catches up to my typing hahaha. 2. Music- Currently listening to my psoity playis right now. I really need to update it cause some of this stuff is a tille too EDMmy for me. I think my favorite song is still Loos Myself by One Republic. But I also really reallate to Paradise by Coldplay. Chris Martin definntely thought of me when he wrote that song.  3. Family- My sister, older sister, bless her heart, called me a few hours ago just to check on me. My hwole family is worried about  me. Sorry fam...I don’t mean to make them worry. This is my mid-life crissi and I’m just trying to figure it all out. But there’s a lot. That’s why I’m in therepy.  4. UbereaTs- I’ma lazy butt so I ordered food with what little money I had but hey, I eat like a bird...which is that bad thing? Do birds eat a lot or not so much? I never really understood that Idiom...Idioms...they remind me of sweet sweet Jaal. Yes, I did finish Andromeda because I wasn’t boing to be allowed to play video games for the next 5 days but that hasn’t stopped me from over posting on pinterset. Ahhh...Jaal. He makes me happy. So does Reyes and Vetra...the others were meh. Oh, I can’t forget Drack too. I’m a god mother thanks to him (spoiler by) whoops...Where was I? Am I going to reathis over. I don’t knkow.Perhaps. I glanced at the screen so I was talking about food. I love food...so thankful for food. Japenese food especiall. Ahhh...Japan....anime...I could go on. Clearly I’m a pssionate person.

Gosh...Avicci just came on...I’m sad. It’s so sad what happened. He was an amazing artist. I hope you’re at peace Avicii...you deserved it. I guess I’m going to have to go without you.

5. I don’t want to put something ordinary to be thankful like a oscar award speech or anything. I’m tm just looking around trying to think of what i’m thankful for. I’m thankful for napkins cause damn i’m a messy eater. i have so many from McDs. So yummy...they got rid of the signature meals though and that made me disappointed. I waited more than half an hour for my order but I didsn’t say anything because the workers have other customers to worry about han me. Like ther was a man who was rather impatient and gave them shit for not getting his food out. I just didn’t say anything. I’ll be patient. They’ll know my order was missing and i’ll get my food. It’s no rush...really. I wonder if that’s why I’m in this delima. I just wait things out untill things get out of hand. 

This feels good. Writing. I used to write a lot. I used to do a lot of things. I didn’t just sit infrom of my tv all day and play video games. I love video games but maybe i love them a little toomuch. Acutally no, I DO  love them too much. 

The past few nights I actually dreamnt of plays in PUBG and I couldn’t dream of anything else. Ugh...the graphics sucked hahaha. I want to be able to dream about other things. I need to break this cyele. Tha’s wy I’m writing. I want to customuze my proile too cause this is hopefullying to to be a daily thing. But with every commitment that comes into my life, I may drop it cause I don’t do commitments...in all differeent parts of my life. Probably cause I’m not used to sticking around in places for to long but tumblr isn’t isn’t a place...maybe it’s a state of mind. I’ve seen some whack posts from this sight it’s gotta say something about all the people . Quirkly...not nessarily in a bad way but it could be. But anyway...yeah...what else.I gues it’s a plus that i’mnot thinking of games at the moment. I’m just content basking in the glory of finishing mass effect. I might make a seperate post about that cause this is for therepy. Don’t mind me.

What a week it has been.

It’s more personal life/work related, which I notably don’t talk about here on the inter webs, but it’s been a good, hard working week in my life!

I’m just gonna go right into the games, forgo the editorial, and focus on the questions, since there are some good ones this week. Back-to-back late postings of the Sunday Chats though, just been some late Sunday nights is all!

Metroid Samus Returns

I mentioned it a bit last week but Samus Returns continues to be absolutely excellent.

It’s the full Zero Mission treatment for Metroid 2, and it’s an amazing reimagining of the classic Metroid formula from that game.

It keeps everything that made that game super rad, and is just exactly what I wanted the 3DS 2D Metroid game to be: an amazing 2D Metroid with 3D graphics!

I love it. Yay!

Destiny 2

Still chipping away at Destiny 2, trying to make it into that upper echelon of “above power level 280″ and finally being one of the cool kids.

After the demoralizing failure of not finishing the Leviathan raid this past week, there was definitely some time off necessary.

I walked away, but now I’m back up to the plate and ready to knock it out of the park.

What I’ve Been Working On

It’s been an interesting few weeks of working on things. I am still cranking those words out everyday, and I can feel something coming. I wanted to release something this week, what with it being a full year since the release of the first episode of Alex Talks Season 3, but we’ll have to wait a bit more. Stuff is coming. I do promise. I have so much written, and I wanna wait for the right time to record some footage and do some new things with video content, but I am also extremely lazy.

So, with those to things going at each other, we’ll see how it turns out.

I’ll say this week I’ve been writing almost exclusively about Destiny and Metroid, and it feels real good to write about those two things again!

Hrm. I mean I could take this a bunch of different ways.

I think there are definitely a few things that I’ll list off. Like, I could always be a better person. I honestly, truly believe that, and I think that mentality is partly what leads people to believe I am one at all, is because I strive to be better, to be more inclusive, to be more empathetic and understanding.

Like one thing I hate about myself is how lazy I am, ya know? Like I procrastinate a lot. Whether it’s little things like doing the dishes or cleaning my bathroom, or big things like writing projects, articles, editing writers’ work, responding to important emails, or otherwise. I wanna focus on that and be better.

I also generally want to be healthier. Like, both my parents were, for a time, overweight, and had gastric bypasses done and now they’re healthy and skinny, but I don’t wanna lean on that as an option, and I know the odds are stacked against me. I wanna be happy with my body, but also I have so many medical things wrong with me that I’d like to prolong the feeling of being able to get up, and run, and play, and just be active as long as I can, because ya know, you don’t appreciate that kind of thing when you have it.

So yeah, I hope that answers your question.

But also I am not a very good writer and could be so much better but I’m trying. Putting in the work and time, so to speak.

I have talked about this before, but my Growing up with a Generation piece is definitely up there. My Twilight Princess piece is too. And I actually legitimately love my Breath of the Wild review. Super proud of that.

I think there are some reviews that could have been better, especially the ones on episodic games. But I’ve kind of stopped reviewing them now because it’s hard to encapsulate those feelings. Especially if you’re going to try and do so without spoilers. 

But nothing sticks out to me that I am particularly not proud of because I just haven’t published those things. I wrote a thing about JRPGs versus WRPGs that I ended up just not liking at all, and scrapped. But that’s really the biggest one.

Haha I think I’d want Christopher Nolan to direct it, just because he is my favorite director, but no. That won’t do. 

Ugh, Logan this would be such a terrible movie oh my god.

Okay, either the Russo Brothers, or, preferably, Phil Lord and Chris Miller, directors of 21 & 22 Jump Street.

Uhh, for me I’d want like, Miles Teller for myself, because we kind of have a similar “look”. In a PERFECT WORLD a young French Stuart would play Scott, oh my fucking god that’d be so perfect. You have no idea. But like, a young one. I could totally see a Josh Gad playing Evan Wall. Joseph Fait is tough, he’d maybe be like an Andrew Garfield type. Tony Horvath would be really tough. I’d love just like, a Justin McElroy for him, honestly. 

Nabeshin is a tricky one. Like, maybe a Michael B Jordan, but I’d think a Chadwick Boseman could do great too.

Danny Juarez would be played by either Michael Peña or Rob Schneider. One of the two.

Haha I mean, I think I already covered Tony, I really think the J-man could do a great job, but I’m sure there is a better pick out there.

Jurge Cruze Alvarez? Joseph Gordon Levitt.

The BEST snack food... Hrm...

I mean I love potato chips, personally, but I try not to eat them. Not anymore, at least, because I can feel my arteries slowly closing as I put every chip in my mouth...

I’d honestly say, if accessible, the french fry. The french fry is the perfect snack-um. My brother actually just made home-made french fries, like cut the potatoes himself, last week, and they were fucking amazing.

I mean, I’d like to know the chance, ahead of time, personally, but I could get more than just burritos at Chipotle. Now, if my burrito BOWL exploding in my face randomly that’d just be kind of funny.

This is tricky, because there are a ton of really cool one offs that would be fun to bring back. But my totally bullshit answer is just gonna be a REAL Paper Mario RPG again. Even a Super Paper Mario 2 would be fucking amazing, but a sequel to Thousand Year Door, in conjunction with a TYD remaster on Switch, would be incredible.

So here is a big thing I’ve realized, and there are still occasionally games I’ll like to stream, but I tend to listen to podcasts when I play games. When I stream, I can’t do that, and I end up falling really behind on my podcasts. But I’ve been streaming Destiny a lot lately, and will try and continue to do so.

Not having a schedule makes it super hard for me, and if I could figure out something consistent and fun to stream, I’d definitely give it a shot. But right now, I just don’t know. I got a new capture card, and that definitely helps, even though I mostly got it for video, but it ebbs and flows. Maybe there will be more on the horizon!

I got nothing else left in me this week, I am tired, and tuckered, and ready to just play some games and chill for the rest of my night.
