My dear Zelinkers, chapter 29 of Dear Hero is finally up and I love it so much. I had so much fun writing it, and it was such a struggle to block out character motions through the scene, but I'm sooooo happy with it.

If you're one of my new followers, this is my tp zelink fic, post-canon, where Zelda and Link write letters to each other as they adjust to life beyond twilight and rebuild. They're silly and in love, though it takes so long for them to get there because of the silly part, and all the other traditional obstacles of cross class marriages (not that those politics have a hope of defeating TP Zelda, tbh).

Say what you want but one of my fav tropes is “Mickey/Ian in a relationship and cheating to be with Ian/Mickey.” Parts of this fic are so painful to read, the angst gets ANGSTY in this one. This fic is one I hold so close to my heart. I relate to a lot of things in this fic. This is another that I would say to definitely make sure you read the trigger warning and make sure you’re in a good mental space. It also deals with some pretty heavy themes. Mickey and Ian’s connection in this fic is unmatched for me, they just get each other so well in this one. They both have been through so many traumatizing things and Mickey uses his trauma to help Ian heal from his trauma in a healthy way. It’s quite beautiful. This is one of the first fics I ever read when I joined the fandom, when I tell you I about peed my pants when I realized the author reuploaded this fic I’m not kidding. I actually squealed. It is a beautiful, intricate, detailed story and writes as a true mystery novel with hints of romance. I do know the ending as I have the original downloaded, and I’m confident to say it’s a happy ending, but I’m not sure if I should upload the download link? I will have to get in touch with the author somehow! Please, give this fic a chance if you feel your mental can handle it, it’s truly an amazing read. (Full review — coming soon)

If I Should Stay

On the 15th, as promised! Ngl, I definitely almost forgot this. I have SO many feelings about this one, y’all check the tags if you want my ramblings. Buckle up. Also, happy stabbing Caesar day.

Steve works his jaw, staring at Will. “Yeah,” he whispers. Will looks down. “Hey,” Steve says gently. “That’s not on you, okay? And Jonathan’s a really great guy. He and Nancy both had a lapse in judgement. They got together a while later and they were better for each other than she and I ever were.”

“But they hurt you.”

Steve chuckles. “In the moment, sure. But I’m fine now, I’ve moved on. It surprised me just now because I didn’t expect her to react like that. I know that’s not who she is as a person, and I’m sure as soon as Joyce talks to her about it and she’s had some time to think about it, she’ll come apologize. But none of that is on you, okay?”

Will shrugs, playing with the hem of his pants.

Steve glances at Eddie, who winks and plops down cross-legged next to Will, nudging their shoulders together. “My dad’s in jail.” Will looks up at him, surprised. Eddie shrugs. “I’ve had time to process, but it took me a while to realize he just isn’t a good person. Now, my momma was an angel among women, she just had a disease. It didn’t make her a bad person. But they’re my parents, so that must mean I’m a bad person with a disease, right?”

“No!” Will says emphatically. “Just because they-” he pauses, mouth a perfect circle, before flushing and ducking his head, smiling a little. “Okay. I get it.”

“Good kid,” Eddie says fondly, ruffling his hair. “Now, back to the planning?”

“Probably,” Steve nodded. “First things first, who wants out?”

“Papa hurt El?” Mike asks. Steve nods. “Then let’s kill this fucker.”

“Language,” say all the adults, and Mike rolls his eyes.

“I’m in,” Will adds.

“Me too,” Dustin says, and Lucas nods.

Steve looks around, and all the adults present nod at him. Robin squeezes his hand, and Alli pulls him closer to her by his shoulders. “Alright, little brother,” she says. He elbows her. “What’s the plan?”

Steve sighs and looks to El. “What do you think, Ellie?”

“Everyone else is dead,” she murmurs. “But if I go into the rainbow room, I will see them.”

Steve’s heart breaks. “You don’t have to go anywhere you don’t want to.”

She smiles sadly at him. “You cannot promise me that, Steve.”

He meets Robin’s eyes above El’s head, watches her heart break. “Watch me.” He looks back to El. “I know what he put you through, El.”

“He loves me.”

Steve takes a breath, shuts his eyes for a moment. “Remember what I told you, last time you said that?”

El nods. “You thought the same thing about your parents.”

“Exactly. It took me a long time to learn, but they don’t love me. And there’s nothing I can do to change that. Even if I was perfect, that wouldn’t be enough for them. Does that make sense?”

She nods. “You love me differently from how Papa loves me.”

“Yeah,” Steve whispers. “Which do you like better?”

“Yours.”

“Do you know why?”

She thinks about it for a minute. “You love me because you see Ellie. He loves me because he sees Eleven.”

Next to him, Alli makes a broken sound. Steve reaches back to hold her hand. “Yeah, Ellie. That’s exactly right.”

“I do not want to only be Eleven anymore,” she decides. “I want to be Ellie.”

“And that’s why I’ll do all of it myself if I have to,” Steve tells her. “So you can be Ellie. You don’t have to go in the rainbow room, okay?”

“Okay,” she nods, wiggling around until she can bury her face in his neck and whisper, “I trust you.”

He blinks quickly. “I’m glad,” he whispers back.

“Ellie,” Wayne says, voice not much steadier than Steve’s. She shifts to look at him from where she’s tucked into Steve. “We all want you t’be just Ellie if you want it. We’re all gonna be right there with you.”

“Thank you,” she says quietly. “Steve?”

“Yeah?”

“I won’t be strong enough. If I see Papa.”

“That won’t be a problem,” Hopper says, checking his gun. She shifts to look at him. “He’s not going to hurt you again.”

She frowns and buries her face back in Steve’s neck. “I’m happy,” she murmurs. “But I’m also very sad.”

Steve sighs and hugs her tightly. “I know how you feel.”

“I don’t like feeling this way.”

“I know, El. I don’t think there’s really any way to get rid of the feeling, though.”

“Just life,” Alli says quietly, scooting closer and laying a comforting hand on El’s upper arm. “I know it’s a cliché, but it’s true.”

El looks up at Alli. “Okay. What’s a cliché?”

Alli meets Steve’s eyes, a smile starting to spread, and Steve thinks everything’s going to be okay.

never been able to figure out a concise way to explain my BG3 appalachia AU in which malus thorm is simply somebody's very confused and devoutly religious peepaw. i mean yeah, he's got a bunch of surgical tools in the shed out back but that's just for peepaw's taxidermy (and the occasional stitch-up when one of the grandkids get hurt). yeah he makes his own "medicine" in the bathtub (it's moonshine he lovingly calls 'the dark lady,' and at least once a month the kids have to explain why he can't refer to getting 'shine drunk as "bein' in her dark-fingered embrace"). and yeah, he tries to get the locals to use it for everything because he does actually believe it's a cure-all. he's a local urban legend. all the kids around town think he's real scary, and he gets a kick out of that. his grandkids ask him at family dinner if he's having a brat summer, and he thinks that means they're coming to stay with him after school lets out. he's gonna make them come to his weird fundamentalist church every sunday, but after that he'll let 'em play with the taxidermy.

Omg thanks for the ask, this is a very fun one!!

I have an AU in which Len and Barry are both insomniacs and agree to spend the nights they can't sleep together. It started out as a little one shot, which I only wrote down because I thought it was cute enough to warrant being on Ao3 after using that little bit of a plot bunny to entertain myself when I couldn't sleep, and then I rapidly lost control of the plot and ended up with two more little one shots, and decided it was time to put together a longfic to give these one shots context 😌 [btw, those one shots can be found here on Ao3, or here if you want to read them in chronological order rather than the order they were posted in!]

Operation: Sleep is the longfic!

I'm still zero drafting it, and I actually need to rewatch season one of the Flash because my memory is a sieve and this is an AU that's a continuation of season one rather than a rewrite of season two (though. That might change when I inevitably get around to season two, lol). Mostly though it takes place after the Singularity, and it's an AU where Eddie and Ronnie survived, and Eobard is still gone.

The basic plot is as follows: Len catches Barry wandering around the neighborhood by Saints&Sinners in the early hours of the morning far too frequently to be explained away as a coincidence, and makes it his mission to figure out wtf Barry is doing. One night, Captain Cold has to step in to save the Flash, and when Len takes Barry back to STAR Labs, they get locked in the lounge for the night due to Cisco's latest anti-Cold tech, which can only be disengaged by Cisco or Caitlin from the Cortex, but it is 2am, Barry was out without Team Flash's knowledge, and they're stuck here for the night. They end up bonding over having insomnia, and after that night, Len makes it a point to try to get Barry to actually sleep, or at least come inside and not wander the streets when he can't sleep

One thing leads to another, and they end up in a dynamic that's kinda romantic-adjacent, but neither of them would actually use those words to describe it. They kiss, there is def sex happening, but both of them refuse to acknowledge their feelings for each other, and it actually works out just fine like that, up until other people find out. The moment everyone else finds out, it all blows up and becomes one of those miscommunication plotlines where each thinks the other isn't actually interested, and that this will ruin everything (spoiler: it doesn't, they do manage to work it out!)

The whole fic is born from a place of, I couldn't sleep and am making that everyone else's problem ^.^

Oh. My. GOD. The ending to Puer et monstrum was so devastating I nearly cried..

Reader was and still is as strong as Zandy said, because after everything that would happen afterwards I don’t think I’d be able to manage. I cannot imagine the anguish of losing a child, especially not one of my own, but to learn my own husband was responsible for their death? PHEWWW. Reader is better than me- that’s all I’ll say! 😅

Also the way you depicted the panic for Zandy seriously had me feeling stressed.. I wished Reader had begun hugging him and telling him everything would be okay. I know they were desperate to save Zandy’s life, but it really seemed Dottore wouldn’t have changed his mind. Even when they got to the point of pleading. THATS JUST SO SAD. The impending time of Zandy’s death was so sick :(( </3

This just opened a whole new can of worms of me because imagining Zandy and the segments in their final moments- their feelings of being scared, panicked, just a multitude of emotions- all towards the fact they’re all about to die. Imagine the segments, who too, thought of reader right then- thinking of reader as they perished & not being able to reach reader like Zandy had.. I need a moment- 😭

WEWDJWEDOW THANK YOU FOR YOUR KIND WORDS!! (*obligatory hugs and tissues*) And YEAH!! Reader is HELLA strong in their own way, even if they don't recognize it, because i wouldn't be able to handle that whole situation either. I'd simply disappear 🥰

As much as Reader tried to comfort him, I imagine they were having their own sort of breakdown having just learned that all of the segments they've known for years were literally about to die in mere minutes, so many things rushing through their mind on what they should do and how to stop it and just everything they went through with them. It was hard for them to just believe that after spending so many years with the segments, they'd just go poof. At least Zandy was able to be with the person he loved most.

The segment's last moments are also something that KILLS me inside like- 😭 they did not need to die!! We deserved to see them!! Poor Reader, they probably think about what the segments wanted to say to them before they died. You just wish you could have provided some comfort in their last moments, although it's impossible now... Never forgiving Omega for this 🙄 (my innocent pretty wife)
