I have been REALLY wanting to do traditional art lately. And I finally called it quits on my prior sketchbook it's like ~basically~ filled up and I rlly had that thing since 2018 and I think it's more than time to start fresh. But I have this absolutely beautiful handmade sketchbook I CANNOT GET MYSELF TO USE. I want to use it. It rlly inspires me...but it's just too damn pretty!!! Sksksksks. I think I'm gonna use the illo I have lying around and maybe pick up the pretty sketchbook when I feel a bit more confident in my traditional art again.

Like I don't think you need to have a 'ugly drawing' and 'pretty drawing' sketchbook I personally can't do that. And I know you're suppose to open up yourself to your sketchbook and I was happiest when I truly felt I did that BUT ITS JUST SO HARD.

My sketchbook really became a safety after I could draw again post surgery. I had to use my sketchbook or else I couldn't draw (it was physically too painful digitally; don't ask me why I dunno) but when that shift happened and it became physically too painful to draw traditional and I had to switch to digital (yeah....Idk...grr) I really have never been the same since 😭😭😭

Though I truly value and love traditional art. I wouldn't have improved like if I didn't. Like before I did a lot of traditional I COULD NOT draw on my iPad. I always said it just felt """"too much like traditional""" but now? I only draw on my iPad and feel I could actually feel the skill transfer which is nice. Like ohmygod. My like pages and pages of just John and Lincoln studies were so good to me and I know is why I feel comfortable drawing them today. Which I wouldn't have been able to do digitally I just know it. But also, I don't think I really could draw like I do today if I didn't do digital? You know. Like I love that just as dearly and was very important to my early years especially (and still now of course) of figuring out anatomy bc of the ability to tweak thing.

But um. Long story short. If I'm getting the craving to traditional I think I need to tap into that. Even if that means I have to draw less to have more fun. I think it'll be worth it.

how long does it take you to draw your sketches/doodles? also do you have any tips to draw faster? 🙇‍♀️

I generally take 30 - 60 minutes a sketch,,,, but honestly really depends on how detailed it is.

Like a Chibi will be done in 20 - 25 minutes (Counting in the extra time I spend on minute details like a perfectionist 😭)

I for some reason really like spending egregious amounts of time on random objects too??? Unless it’s the in the background, I’ll spend 40 minutes refining it.

Random characters that are fully colored and rendered with take like 80 minutes.

The comics take usually take an hour or two per page. (If I decide to cross hatch it, my entire day will be gone with 4 pages… so I’ve been trying to find shortcuts. But not without sacrificing the quality for time lol)

I don’t think there’s any trick or magic to drawing faster. It’s really about weaponizing your artistic knowledge, and finding what’s comfortable or convenient for you!

There was a period of time where I would spend 11 or 12 hours on an illustration, and it wASS UGLYYYYY. (Some of these artworks are still available on my tumblr,,, but it’s SO LONG AGO, AND IT WAS MY 1ST OR 2ND YEAR GETTING INTO DIGITAL ART)

Overtime I learned what worked best for me, and practiced till I felt more comfortable with what I was drawing. Eventually I managed to shorten the time to 4 hours or less! Ambition was my biggest enemy but at the same time my biggest motivator. (And it still is LMFAO) 😭

EDIT (bit more to my way too long tangent): ALSO??? BRO DON’T BE AFRAID TO USE YOUR MESSY SKETCH AS LINEART OR DRAW ON TOP OF IT. I’VE DONE IT FOR YEARS NOW AND IT ADDS SUCH A GOOD EXTRA BIT OF TEXTURE,, AT THIS POINT I DON’T EVEN USE LINE-ART ANY MORE UNLESS IT’S A COMMISSION,, (IT’LL ADD LIKE AN 2-4 HOURS TO MY WORK)

haha. hurting my own feelings in the down draft of the answer fic! i was initially worried i wouldn't have enough thoughts about that gap between the knife scene and the next scene to write a whole fic about it, but it's starting to seem that the solution is simply: cramming in as much domestic weilan flashback as narratively possible :3

Day 6 of @rumicworldweek -Favourite scene or quote (from Maison Ikkoku): This scene from the chapter, 'Under the Sakura'!!

Words cannot describe how much I love this scene, I mean it's literally one of my favorite moments in the entirety of the rumic world. This scene where Godai talks to Soichiro about how he knows that he can't replace him in Kyoko's heart is just such a powerful moment, a moment where Godai proved to the readers that he does in fact deserve to marry Kyoko. It's crazy to see that this is the same Godai from the first couple volumes, the same Godai who vowed to be better than Soichiro and make Kyoko forget him entirely, not once thinking about Kyoko's side of things despite being desperately in love with her. I loved Godai even back then, but I could still tell that he didn't properly deserve Kyoko because he never thought about her feelings... until this chapter.

This chapter shows Godai accepting Soichiro as a part of Kyoko and that he can't ever make her forget him after seeing how much it hurt her. He was finally able to understand how she felt and that was when it felt like he finally deserved her. Honestly it's just so satisfying to see Godai grow like this, In my opinion, it was handled perfectly... 🌸

To cap off this pride month, a few of my queer headcanons for Carmen Sandiego (2019) characters!

I headcanon Player as a trans boy and Carmen as a trans woman! I also definitely think Carmen's sapphic but I don't have a more specific identity in mind for her.

Julia is a lesbian ofc. Her shirt is inspired by this retro lesbian shirt! If I had seen it before inking I would have made it an actual shirt with a collar and all but alas I saw it too late.

And I headcanon Devineaux as a trans man. His jacket was heavily based on this vintage jacket, obviously with the colors reworked. That's his new lucky coat probably.

Ur tags about how Miles and Pavitr are the ones who say "I can do both" because it IS quintessential spiderman thinking AND because they're too young to have seen that devastatingly not work yet. BUT the thing is they are RIGHT but only if it's "we"! Spiderman's mythos is inherently a lonely one reinforced by Miles and Gwen's isolation and by every. single. intro. reminding us that every spider person is the "one and only spider person"! YES YEAH YOU GET IT !!!! and (quite recently rewatched it and mentioning it here cause i can't believe i forgot to mention it in the post you're talking about) it really gets me that gwen also says 'i was doing both' in regards to protecting miles and protecting the canon event, and i love that the phrase was reflected like that, even tho (at this point of the movie) miles and gwen pretty much oppose each other in views/priority !!

it also absolutely kills me the way that gwen begins (like you say) atsv quitting the band and isolates herself, and then throughout the whole thing she finds something/someone that she wants to take that leap for, all over again :') she (and the entire spider-team!!) is willing to bet everything on miles and is ready to fight for him, and i really just love the idea that miles just is a force that inspires good !!!! IT REALLY IS ALL ABOUT LOVE!!!

I've read several Azulaang AUs where Aang gets Azula to open and master all of her chakras. Each with their own take on what's blocking them.

What do you think is blocking all of Azula's chakras? What's your take?

i love these kinds of fics! i think previous authors have hit the nail on the head and done the topic justice already but i'll take a shot at it :D

earth chakra, blocked by fear: shoutout to azula she gotta have the craziest abandonment issues the four nations have ever seen. her fear of betrayal, both from others and her own mind, forces every action to be so controlled that her iron grip messes with the natural flow of her chi. (cut to aang, kissing her forehead and telling her it's gonna be okay etc etc)

water chakra, blocked by guilt: i think this one would be tied closely to her mistreatment of zuko. i truly don't think azula has much room for guilt, but deep down she's thought about how her big brother was just a kid, too, and she didn't have to make an enemy out of him.... and eventually this chakra could be blocked by her guilt over striking aang down as well

fire chakra, blocked by shame: there are obvious takes on this (the agni kai, ozai) but i'd like to think this chakra is blocked by her anger & humiliation from the betrayals at boiling rock and from being bested by katara... failure at the hands of other girls who didn't have to give up their compassion for power.... her pride has never been more wounded... (she is in dire need of a sleepover)

air chakra, blocked by grief: ursa :( ozai :( the relationship she could've had with zuko :( the love and support she wanted from iroh :( all the blood sweat and tears she put into being the most invaluable weapon the fire nation has ever seen, for the sake of her father and her country, only for it all to fall apart in a single day :((

sound chakra, blocked by lies: i think the biggest lie azula tells herself is that she's so far past the point of redemption that she has no choice but to be alone and lean into cruelty. (which aang would show her to be completely untrue!)

light chakra, blocked by illusion: maybe too obvious but i feel like this one's gotta be blocked by azula's ingrained justification of fire nation imperialism / what she believes to be inherent superiority over the other nations, right? like she needs to work on undoing that ideology to truly move on

thought chakra, blocked by earthly attachments: azula has such a concrete idea of undying loyalty that she needs to let go of the idea that people are 'hers' — not her pawns, not her toy soldiers — but rather her friends, family, etc. that she's allowed to just feel normal about! (except aang.... how could she possibly be normal about him)

and that's such a great question!! don't worry, i haven't answered it just yet

barty dislikes james as much as james dislikes him. he was intrigued, if a bit jealous, to meet james since regulus never stopped talking about him, but he was . not impressed . when reg finally made them hang out together. they antagonise each other quite a lot, and unlike james, who does his best to keep things civil for reg's sake, barty has no issues with being openly hostile or trying to get a rise out of james

regarding the jegulus relationship.. he thinks they're a bit too close to be strictly platonic at first, but since pandora evan and reg are also kinda codependent in their own way, he doesn't think much of it. besides, sirius never seems bothered, and he's aware that he can be very protective when it comes to his brother, so he assumes that maybe he's reading too much into it

after a while tho, he realises that reg has quite the big crush on james (i.e. he's pathetically in love with him) and it doesn't take him long to connect the dots and realise that despite what regulus seems to believe, it IS requited, and james is simply oblivious to his own feelings. but he hates james, and he doesn't think he deserves reg, so he never says anything, or tries to intervene and make it happen

when it's clear that regulus is actively trying to move on, barty sees his chance and takes it, bc he likes him A Lot, and considering how close they are and how well they understand each other, he thinks he could make reg forget all about james. and if he gets to torture james in the process well.. then that's a very nice bonus

so basically, barty doesn't like their relationship, but not because he cares about how unhealthy or toxic it is, but simply bc he wants reg for himself + firmly believes james is undeserving of him and more of an asshole than ppl think
