Questions for Writers...Characters Edition!
Hi ho what's the dealio! We're back again....with another tag game? I'm outrageous XD! Kidding kidding! But seriously, I'm bored and have a lot to do but no spoons to do them...so I'm doing a tag game instead! Woop woop! And this time, it's a question for writers...characters edition!
As always, I will be tagging my besties @bleepbloopbotz @udaberriwrites @mrsmungus @sliebman10 @fattybattysblog @tsunderesalty @aislinnstanaka @justanotherpersonwhowrites @0nelittlebirdtoldme @mikaharuka @oceangirl24 @lena-hills @kayedium-writes @bees-and-sunshine @danceswithdarkspawn! And of course, open tag to whoever wants to join in!
Now! On to the questions!
🌹 Who is your favorite character? And why?
Trucy! I love Trucy, she is my darling baby. I love her because not only is she silly and chaotic and optimistic, but she's also emotionally complex and intelligent. In my honest opinion, she's the perfect assistant/co counsel for the WAA. Don't get me wrong, I love Ema and Maya! But they really perfected it when they made Trucy.
🌹 Go to all your works on AO3, and on the filters side bar, click the drop-down arrow for “Characters.” Who are your top 5 most written characters?
Naruhodou Ryuuichi | Phoenix Wright (41)
Mitsurugi Reiji | Miles Edgeworth (37)
Ayasato Mayoi | Maya Fey (33)
Karuma Mei | Franziska von Karma (32)
Odoroki Housuke | Apollo Justice (23)
Huh! I expected Trucy to be much higher on that list. Legitimately surprised that Apollo had her beat XD. But yep! These are my top five written characters! Phoenix in the lead damn. You go Phoenix!!
🌹 What characters do you wish you wrote more?
Honestly? A lot! But the two I'll be choosing are Maggey Byrde and Adrian Andrews. Idk why I don't write them much, I do like them enough and they're friends with the characters. I've only written Adrian in one fic and Maggey...never? Which is a shame! Cause these characters rock!
🌹 Which characters do you think you write well?
None. I'm bad at writing all of them
Ahem, I mean. Maya and Franziska, definitely. I think I've written these two so many times that I subconsciously get them, and excuse me if that sounds like bragging XD.
🌹 Which characters do you think you could improve on writing?
Honestly? Klavier. I do like how I write him, but I feel that I write him...too sane? If that makes any sense? I definitely don't write the more absurd parts of his character too much. And I also don't leverage his popularity/rockstar status enough. Idk, XD.
🌹 What character did you at first hate/dislike, but then grew to like/love?
Franziska. I thought she was kinda mean at first. But then I wrote her some more, fleshed her out and got to know her more as a person...and I grew to love her. Yours Truly, Franziska von Karma did accelerate how much I loved her. It was so fun getting into her psyche in that fic, and dear god did it make me love her more XD.
🌹 Which character did you immediately like/love the moment you saw them?
We all know who this is. Trucy, of course! I knew the moment I saw that little ray of sunshine that I'd love her, and I have! She is so amazing and cute and smart and funny and AAA! I just love her so much! Idk what it is about her, I just adore Trucy.
🌹 Which character voice do you have the most fun writing?
Franziska and Maya's. (These two really come in a package, don't they? XD). I like writing Franziska's dialogue cause I like her blunt and formal way of speaking, that's always fun! And I like writing Maya's dialogue cause it's casual and friendly, but never takes away from seriousness if she needs to be serious. If that makes sense XD.
🌹 What character voice do you have the least fun writing?
Any of the AA characters with obnoxiously "smart" or "deep" vocabularies. So Wesley Stickler, Richard Wellington, and Redd White. I swear, I hated writing White's dialogue in Turnabout Camaraderie, and I know I'll hate writing Wellington and Stickler's dialogue.
🌹 Which character do you feel like you’re the most similar to?
Hmmm. None? XD. But if I had to pick, I'd pick Maya. Maya I feel matches my excitable energy, though I don't usually steal from crime scenes XD or get accused of murder. If I ever get a spiky haired lawyer friend then I'll let y'all know!
🌹 Which character do you feel like you’re the least similar to?
Apollo. Apollo is detail oriented and perceptive and I am the...opposite of that lol. He's also very snarky, and while I love that for him, I feel I'm too excitable to be snarky XD.
🌹 Quick! Pick a character and then have them make an AITA post on Reddit, why did they make it and are they the asshole?
UUUUUUHHHH
MILES
And he's asking if he's the asshole for trying to get Phoenix thrown in jail for the murder of his mentor.
(Spoiler alert, he's the asshole)
That's all! To all my besties answering this game and to all the potential players who I didn't tag...have fun!

Sicktember Day 16: Consulting the Internet/Web MD
Fandom: Ace Attorney
Characters: Adrian Andrews, Franziska von Karma, Larry Butz
Notes: Adrian knows better than to type every symptom into the nearest search engine. Adrian knows nothing good comes of it. Why is it so tempting, then? You know the drill: post-SoJ for timeline purposes only, married Fradrian, Larry’s hanging out again. Also, I got to look up the German word for “quack doctor” so that was fun. "Cure" + "Botcher" is clever; I like it.
The amount of tissues accumulating in the bedroom trash bin started matching the amount there was the last time a movie featuring a dog on the cover with a Based On The Award Winning Novel sticker was brought into the Andrews home. If these came from a satisfying, healthy cry like that, Adrian wouldn’t have been anxiously staring at her phone set face down on the breakfast table, fighting off every urge to look up why her nose had been running for nearly two weeks.
Her wife was so kind in her encouragement not to give in to jumping into a rabbit hole that they both knew would lead to nothing but trouble, just as it always did. For example, last year, the results of some particularly sneaky mosquitos were quickly misidentified as some horrible, incredibly rare disease neither Adrian nor Franziska could figure out how to pronounce. So much distress when all that was needed was some anti-itch ointment and self-discipline; this was something they both would rather avoid letting happen again. Unfortunately, such avoidance was easier said than done.
Adrian hoped it would be easier with Larry staying over, since he could potentially provide a welcome outside perspective. Larry had traveled to all kinds of places, after all, so if something was to be worried about, he’d probably let Adrian know, right? Isn’t that what people say? That “no news is good news?”
The thing about anxiety, however, is the rule of “no news is good news” has already been tossed out the window. If there was no definite confirmation that everything was fine, everything might as well have met the worst case scenario. If a client had not responded to one of Adrian’s suggestions, her suggestion must have been horrible. If one of Franziska’s work partners excused themselves from a shared space, Adrian must have been the one annoying them. Therapy had done a lot of good for assessing these conclusions and whether or not they were actually plausible, but that didn’t make Adrian immune to the occasional feeling that everything was at the worst place it could possibly be.
“Good morning, sweetie.” Franziska greeted her as she served a large cup of Adrian’s favorite morning tea. “How are you feeling this morning?”
“Terrified.” Adrian answered before blowing her nose into the closest available napkin. “I mean, I didn’t look up my symptoms this time, but I did remember that Medical Mysteries podcast I found two years ago…”
“Someday, I’ll find some way to make those fearmongers answer to me!” Franziska vowed. “Surely there must be a way for them to take responsibility for your sleepless nights.”
Even after years of marriage, Adrian still found herself swooning like a schoolgirl whenever Franziska talked like this.
“There probably is.” Larry joined the conversation from the kitchen doorway. “Though I’m pretty sure her name isn’t ‘Shirley.’” He couldn’t help himself from adding that.
“Oh, Larry.” Adrian chuckled, which softened Franziska’s initial irritation with Larry’s joke. “I hope you slept well, by the way.” She poured a cup of tea for her houseguest. “I couldn’t sleep a wink, even without staring at a screen looking through WebMD.” She sniffled. “I ended up staying awake just to keep myself from looking anything up.”
“Sure did!” Larry answered with a big smile. “A good night’s sleep got me thinking, too. I might just know what you need.”
“I trust it’s not something foolish that might get her hurt.” Franziska was quick to speak, not wanting Larry to suggest anything reckless. Not that he had proven to suggest such things; after all, he was the one who tried to stop that fool Phoenix Wright from running through a burning bridge, but for Adrian’s sake, it was better to be safe than sorry.
“Of course not!” Larry seemed confident enough. “Fresh air. It might be the last nice day before fall really kicks in, after all. Plus, you could leave your phone inside to keep the temptation away.”
“That does sound beneficial.” Franziska acknowledged with a nod. “What do you think, sweetie?” She asked the one person whose opinion mattered most in all this.
“I like that.” Adrian sipped the last of her tea and stood up. “Do you think we could sit in the garden, honey? It’s so pretty in the morning.”
Franziska would have also suggested the garden, but she preferred encouraging Adrian to make decisions and be direct with them. Now, she didn’t quite understand Adrian’s requests for permission weaved in these decisions, but Franziska was a firm believer that the little steps to assertiveness mattered just as much as big ones.
“Absolutely.” Franziska stood up as well and planted a kiss on Adrian’s cheek before turning her attention to Larry. “I’d like you to stay right here, Larry Butz, unless it’s an emergency. Alright?”
“You got it, Franzy!” Larry jokingly saluted his gracious hosts as they left for the garden.
. . .
“Even with the gardeners being on vacation recently, the garden truly is beautiful.” Franziska observed before catching a glimpse of Adrian starting to tear up. “Adrian, darling? Are you alright?”
“Huh?” Adrian blinked. “Yeah, I’m alright.” She pulled out a tissue from a pocket pouch decorated with a cat themed design, picked out for one of the cats’ strong resemblance to Shoe. “Gh… I feel like I have to sneeze, though, but not enough for it to actually happen.” She wiped her nose furiously. “It’s driving my nose crazier than usual.”
“That’s just the worst, isn’t it? Do you want me to assist–” Something made Franziska completely stop, her eyes wide and her mouth curling into a frown.
“I-Is something wrong?”
“Weeds.” Franziska hissed to herself. “You stay right here. I’m going to take care of a prime suspect.”
Prime suspect?
“Wait, what?” Adrian couldn’t quite understand what her wife was talking about.
Franziska stomped over to the uninvited greenery and furiously sought out every root she could find. How dare they commit not only the crime of stealing valuable nutrients from the plants that had already been carefully tended to, but also the even worse crime of potentially being the source of her wife’s suffering? Everyone knew well enough that the latter was grounds for the harshest penalties.
Her clothing was heavily dusted in pollen by the time she had finished this first battle with the weeds, but at least for this round, she was victorious.
“Please forgive me for what this might do, sweetie.” Franziska preemptively apologized before wincing as she held out one of her new war trophies.
It wasn’t long before Adrian’s previous grievance was at least somewhat relieved as a flurry of sneezes made their way out with ease.
“Wow uh,” Adrian interrupted herself with another set of sneezes, “what are those?”
“Mugwort.” Franziska said its name through gritted teeth, making sure such an utterance was devoid of any resemblance of respect for the species. “An allergic reaction to its pollen is the most likely cause of all that trouble your nose has given you.”
“Well, I don’t doubt you one bit.” Adrian said before blowing her nose. “Larry really was right. The fresh air really was helpful.” Helpful was a funny way to put it, considering how much more miserable she felt outside, but it was still fitting in this case.
“Indeed it was. Far better than some kurpfuscher on the internet keeping you up all night with worry.” Franziska pulled off a pollen coated glove and held out her bare hand. “Come, sweetie. Let’s draw ourselves a hot bath and then find you a nice, strong antihistamine. I’ll enlist Larry Butz’s help in ridding the gardens of every last weed afterwards while you catch up on all that lost sleep.”
There Adrian went swooning again.
“Gosh, I love you so much.”
#snez attorney#my writing#my fics#sicktember#sicktember 2023#lol I made it 15 days without writing an allergy fic

First game: Impulse is still Phoenix and his rival is still Tango as Edgeworth. Cleo is still doomed mentor Mia and now her little sister Gem is Maya. We also have Rendog featuring as Larry Butz, Skizz as Will Powers, and Keralis as Gumshoe (getting a little bit of Big Eyes in there with him and Tango.) Lastly, we have Martyn as Manfred, because he's the only one aside from Cub who can pull that off and Cub is already taken. Joe Hills takes the role of the Judge throughout all three games, with one notable exception.
DLC: Once Gem returns to Kurain, Joel as a bright-eyed young Ema shows up to convince Impulse to take a case to save Joel's older brother, Beef. Beef is under the thumb of Iskall, aka Damon Gant, because of a staged murder scene that could land Joel in jail if Iskall shows the evidence.
Second game: Impulse and Gem and Keralis continue in their roles, of course. Skizz as Will shows up again. We also meet Mumbo, who is taking the role of AA!Pearl as Gem's younger cousin. Doc, of course, is still Franziska von Karma. The final case brings us four new faces/names: Wels as the murder victim Juan Corrida, Hels as his rival and murderer Engarde, False as Adrian Andrews, and lastly xB as de Killer, which is mostly because I was thinking about the line "to the gentleman who just spoke now... would you like to die?" and I heard it in xB's voice.
Third game: Only a few new faces here! Our new prosecutor is Etho as Godot, with his tragic past as Diego Armando. Impulse's unexpectedly-still-living old flame BDubs is Iris, hiding a longstanding secret and working with Etho to save Gem from one last scheme of Morgan's. Lastly, in the part of the trial where Tango pretends to be a defense attorney and we bring in a new judge, Zedaph takes up the gavel.
AA4: Impulse has fallen from grace and adopted a daughter—Hermit!Pearl takes the role of Trucy Wright. They hire newbie lawyer Grian as Apollo to defend Impulse from a murder charge, which ends with Grian's mentor Cub as Kristoph found guilty of murder and landed in jail... a sequence of events which brings Scar in the role of Klavier Gavin back to town, and also a much more jaded Joel as his detective partner. Grian and Scar's rivalry starts off with the trial of Jimmy as a cocksure Wocky Kitaki. But that's not all the secrets out there; when Stress as a young Vera Misham is accused of the murder of her father Xisuma as Drew Misham, Grian and Scar find a lot more to uncover regarding Impulse, Cub, and a trial seven years ago.
updating hermittorney please hold

i forgot to respond earlier but YES if you feel up to ranking the cases you should! :D
i absolutely feel up to it! okay, let’s go! below, my rankings for all of the ace attorney cases i’ve played so far... please note that these are all subjective opinions and you may highly disagree, but this is how i feel :) please also note that this will contain me crushing hard on a couple of characters but i promise not to get over the top about it.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney
The First Turnabout -- 2/10 I literally do not care about this one like, at all. I do like having Mia around, hence why it has 2 points instead of 0. But also it’s a Larry case and I really do not like Larry. Plus... everything else. I just don’t like it. (And Phoenix having passed the bar exam but not knowing what a cross-examination is, even if it’s just for tutorial purposes, drives me up the wall.)
Turnabout Sisters -- 6/10 AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA [sobs] This case hurts me. It hurts. Both because of the painful loss of sibling rights and because April May exists. Very different types of hurting, but all the same... She’s one of the reasons why this case gets points taken off of it. Another reason is that I’m just not huge on how it progresses; I’m never a fan of when Mia has to come in and be like ‘this is what you need to do!’ I like figuring it out myself, y’know? But also, heyyyyy, introduction to some characters that are very dear to my heart! Edgeworth time! Fantastic!
Turnabout Samurai -- 5/10 I like Will Powers a lot, and I would kill for Cody, and Penny makes me happy because she has the same name as me, and Dee Vasquez... Wow. Wow. She’s really something. But the plot is kind of boring and goes on for too long, Wendy Oldbag makes me want to defenestrate myself (especially when she talks to Edgeworth) and Sal Manella fills me with a murderous rage. So this case only gets a 5/10. It would probably get lower, except I really love Edgeworth realizing what’s going on and starting to help out, and the scene at the end... well. Well. I’m sure I don’t need to elaborate.
Turnabout Goodbyes -- 10/10 Excellent case. Perfect case. Could not think more highly of it. Yes my lifespan is decreased whenever I see Manfred von Karma but it’s okay. I love defending Edgeworth and I love the backstory even though I also hate it, and I love the actual realistic depictions of trauma, and I love cross-examining the parrot, and I love love LOVE the ending, of course, because getting justice has never felt so goddamn satisfying before. Yeah, I think this case is just my absolute favorite (so far).
Rise from the Ashes -- 9/10 This case hurts me deeply for a thousand different reasons. The sibling rights... The REMOVAL of sibling rights... (I cried. I actually cried.) Edgeworth suffering... It’s all so painful but it’s so well-written that it’s okay. Point taken off because the whole rotating evidence thing kind of annoyed me. ‘But isn’t that also a mechanic in the Investigations series?’ Yeah, but it’s okay when Investigations does it. Don’t ask me to elaborate.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Justice for All
The Lost Turnabout -- 3/10 This case only gets points for Maggey, and also Wellington’s cool ringtone. Oh, and the line about bananas. You know the one. Otherwise, it’s just kind of boring, though I do appreciate that they actually came up with an excuse as to why Phoenix suddenly needs everything explained to him again. Even if that excuse is a bit silly.
Reunion, and Turnabout -- 7/10 It’s not a favorite by any means, but this one is pretty good. Pearl is just baby. The whole Miney sisters thing is deeply upsetting to me, but in a way that’s kind of good. The Hotti Clinic makes me really fucking angry and creeped out, so points taken off for that. Also, Franziska has arrived, and oh boy am I glad to see her!
Turnabout Big Top -- -10000000000000000/10 NO NO NO NO NO. FUCK THIS CASE. I HATE IT SO FUCKING MUCH. I DON’T WANT TO TALK ABOUT THIS ONE. The only good thing in it is how Franziska talks about Miles, because sibling rights are real. But the rest of it? The rest of it can burn.
Farewell, My Turnabout -- 9/10 This is a really good case! I LOVE the twist, I didn’t expect it at all, and it was so cool. I also really like Adrian. Shelly de Killer is pretty cool too. And of course, Edgeworth is back! Hallelujah! Franziska getting shot though... :( And having to go to that damn clinic... :((( Oh and also I love Shoe with every fiber of my being.
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations
Turnabout Memories -- 7/10 Ah, another flashback case, and one that doesn’t absolutely destroy me emotionally! Mia is here! Phoenix Wright as a sick college student with no common sense is here! Dahlia Hawthorne is here! It’s quite a collection of interesting individuals, and on top of that, it’s just a cool case! Even if lovestruck Phoenix makes me feel like hitting someone... Sort of like what it does to Mia...
The Stolen Turnabout -- 6/10 The case itself isn’t that good, to be honest. But I would kill for Ron and Desiree DeLite. They’re so sweet, and Ron is so funny... On the other hand, though, Luke Atmey can go Zvarri himself. I hated him from the very moment he first appeared. What an annoying, fraudulent ass. Also, Godot was there, and I didn’t like him, either, even though I hadn’t yet seen quite just how bad he can get. It was really nice to see Adrian living her best life, though!
Recipe for Turnabout -- 2/10 I really didn’t like this one... I don’t want to talk about it... I did like Lisa Basil though. Too bad she wasn’t much of a character. Oh, and Viola too. And seeing Maggey again was nice. But those were the only good points in an otherwise horrible case.
Turnabout Beginnings -- 7/10 The case is pretty high quality, but it tormented me. Seeing Edgeworth in that coat... with those sprites, just like von Karma’s... And that one line... I hated every minute of it. It hurt. The only way it could’ve been worse was if von Karma himself had been there, but that gets saved for Investigations. Mia being there again was fun, though. And Dahlia... Wow. Lots going on there. That ending was... a lot. Terry was a creep and I didn’t like him, but watching that... Yeah. Yeah. And Diego did not endear himself to me in the slightest.
Bridge to the Turnabout -- 8/10 Too much Godot. Otherwise, this was a really great case. Playing as Edgeworth was so much fun, and Franziska being there too was incredible, and the whole thing tying up all the loose ends was just... so cool. Admittedly, the case itself made me very sad, but... it was so good. So good. I wanted to kill Godot partway through, though. No one talks to Franziska that way. No one. Plus, his whole stupid attitude about Mia... Yeah, I hated his guts, that’s for sure. It also had the scene that I hate (Phoenix needs to fucking learn what PTSD is or I swear to god) but otherwise, very good case.
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth
Turnabout Visitor -- 5/10 HELLOOOOOO I was so excited to finally play these games that the whole case is a bit of a blur, but I do remember not really finding it that interesting outside of the whole rush of ‘FUCK YEAH I’M PLAYING INVESTIGATIONS’. Jacques annoyed me. But it’s Investigations. Investigations is cool.
Turnabout Airlines -- 7/10 Okay, first of all, Edgeworth hiding Steel Samurai stuff in a law book is genuinely just the funniest thing ever. But this case was pretty fun! I love that Franziska’s working with Interpol now, good for her! The characters were pretty cool (I really liked Cammy) and I thought a lot of it was pretty funny, too.
The Kidnapped Turnabout -- 6/10 The only reason this gets 6 points is because it introduced Kay Faraday, who is my chaos child that I love dearly, and also Shi-Long Lang, who I have a very complicated relationship with. It switches from love to hate frequently. It also introduced their totally epic theme songs, one of which is now my morning alarm. Otherwise, I really don’t like it that much. The case goes on for too long, and a lot of the characters are pretty annoying. I really hate Lance. I feel bad for Lauren, though. Ernest... Ugh. Ugh. The man makes me want to break things. Every time he mentions von Karma, he inevitably says something that makes my blood boil. And it brings back Wendy Oldbag, which is always bad news, and she was so fucking creepy, and... yeah. I enjoyed seeing Ema again, though! She seemed to be living her best life :)
Turnabout Reminiscence -- 9/10 This case had too much von Karma in it, and the fact that he went and called Edgeworth worthless right to his face made me so angry and upset... But! It is still a very good case! I really like Detective Badd, and Calisto... Calisto is very pretty and fun, but... yeah. Also! Baby Kay! Baby Kay is everything! And the sibling rights, they were everywhere! The case was just full of them! I love Miles and Franziska bickering like regular siblings. I love the scene with the Swiss rolls. I love Franziska getting between him and her dad. Sibling rights are so real.
Turnabout Ablaze -- 6/10 This case was pretty eventful. Not a favorite by any means, but still good. I thought it was a little too long, though, and the ending just really felt like it was dragging out too much. It got to the point that I wasn’t even fired up anymore, I was just kind of trying to get it all over with. Also, whether he meant it or not, Lang accusing Franziska of murder made me mad. But some of the twists were cool, even if I figured out most of them ahead of time... Also, Edgeworth getting really mad about Larry playing the Steel Samurai was hilarious, in a mean way. I felt a little bit bad for laughing.
Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth: Prosecutor’s Path
Turnabout Target -- 4/10 This one was kinda boring, to be honest. I liked seeing Shelly de Killer again, though, with his matching ice cream cone. And I liked Nicole. (I bet I know who her first mentor was...)
The Imprisoned Turnabout -- 5/10 This one also kinda bored me, unfortunately. Raymond ticked me off from basically the moment he walked onscreen, because sure, let’s blame Edgeworth for [checks notes] ah yes, being manipulated by Manfred von Karma since he was nine. Let’s do that. Nothing wrong with that at all. /dripping sarcasm Sebastian also ticked me off at first, but I’m warming up to him. Also, I was in love at first sight with Justine Courtney. [heart eyes] I am not embarrassed in the slightest to admit to it. She is amazing. Simon is really funny and I think it would’ve been hilarious if he was actually evil, but he was innocent, so... My blood ran cold when I found out the Berry Big Circus was involved, but thank god, it was only Regina. No Franziska yet. I’m really hoping Franziska will show up.
The Inherited Turnabout -- 8/10 I haven’t finished this one yet, but so far, I’ve been enjoying it, even if it torments me with sadness and anger. Once again, von Karma shortens my lifespan, but Gregory Edgeworth lengthens it. (I think it’s really funny that they got ProZD to voice him.) Raymond... I still don’t like Raymond. Though his eating the paper is funny. Also! Also! Katherine Hall! This game introduced two women in a row that I have absolutely fallen for, and I have zero complaints about this. They are incredible. Sebastian is really funny in this one and like I said I am really warming up to him. Yeah. That’s all I really have to say so far. Still no sign of Franziska...
I’m definitely excited to see where the other cases in this game will take me, and after that it will be time for Apollo Justice! I am looking forward to finally meeting the famous Klavier Gavin... But I am not at all looking forward to meeting Kristoph... Oh, well. I’ll live. Probably.
Thank you for reading all of this, haha! I have a lot of thoughts... Many thoughts head full (of Ace Attorney).

elaborating abt them further actually
the. The. Hhbfnfnfnfnfm i know i am being absolutely insane rn but it’s just like. the idea of edgeworth realizing what franziska was about to do and following her to the airport to make sure she didn’t make the same mistakes as him. when he left the first time it really wasn’t to go find himself. it WAS running away. and it was choosing death, perhaps not literally but in the sense that he truly thought he didn’t need to be around anymore in any capacity- to any of the ppl who cared about him, or to his sole purpose in life (prosecuting). so in a way, yes, i think he wanted to die, either conceptually or literally, when he first disappeared. but he like, worked some stuff out afterwards, or during, and then it WAS like his silly little journey of self discovery.
anyway i think he saw that same break in franziska, how she couldn’t handle losing the one identity she had for herself - because even more than him, she was a von karma (and yeah im going nuts over the implications she dropped multiple times that in her eyes that miles is no less a von karma than she was, but there’s some additional nuance in that she, not him, bears her fathers name). & im just feeling so fucking crazy abt how he knew she was going to run away, same as him, and followed her to make sure she wasn’t going to disappear forever. that she was okay. and that’s why he assured her “you may not be a genius, but you’re a prosecutor. and you always will be” bc that’s what he would have wanted. To hear.
whatever i just can’t believe i spent the whole game thinking “man the vk siblings could be that deep” and then they were. also the adrian/franziska parallels? girl help i’m interpreting overtly confident characters with subtle hints at insecurity as putting on a front to hide their self hatred. whatever like just god help me please god please god they are dressed like victorian heirs her gimmick is she’s an 18 year old girl who whips people i seriously can’t believe their relationship has meant . This. Much to me I’m. howling and barking .

prompt: “Restraining Bolt” + Wrightworth
requested by: @moominquartz (& myself)
sooo “Case 2-4: Farewell My Turnabout” absolutely slaps?? when was somebody gonna tell me? luckily, my husband, who has been playing through the original AA trilogy with me, has a giant-ass brain and so we figured out what to do with the only BTH Bingo prompt that had yet to be requested
enjoy a dramatic reading of Case 2-4...from Edgeworth’s POV
- o - o - o -
So Heavy [Read on AO3]
- o - o - o -
There is, admittedly, several years’ worth of a gap in Edgeworth’s knowledge of Phoenix Wright but even so, there is nothing that can explain the brazen man’s even more brazen behavior on the other side of the courtroom.
Wright acts and speaks in a way true to his name: like a man on fire. His moments of cool composure are few and far in-between. He has always been something of a force of nature, but now, he is a wildfire. There is burning desperation in him in every biting word as he reaches for any scrap of kindle he can get his hands on.
The Edgeworth of a year ago, admittedly, would have written his behavior off with a shrug and condescending tsk.
But the Edgeworth now—somehow, the same Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth who self-purportedly chose death—has in the same day, dragged a shot Franziska von Karma to the hospital, taken her place in the prosecutor’s stand, and come to the very alarming conclusion that while the verdict of Matt Engarde’s guilt in the murder of Juan Corrida should be cut-and-dry, somehow, thanks to Wright’s wild back-and-forth, it is everything but.
He cannot believe the morning has dragged out as long as it has.
He knows full well that Wright has, as of this late March day, a perfect record. For every client he has taken in the past two years, he has successfully won their innocence.
(Somehow. For all of his mad lucky bluffing, hearsay, and guesswork.)
And Edgeworth is familiar with the needy drive of marless perfection, but Wright isn’t. He knows he isn’t. Wright is already too imperfect in all of his broad-shouldered blunder to be hungry for such a thing as a spotless record. Surely, he is humble enough to see his client’s guilt as easy as anything else.
So why does he insist on fighting tooth-and-nail for a not guilty verdict?
(Are his actions born of anger at Edgeworth? He wouldn’t put it past Wright. Wright had drawn a clear line in the sand when he vehemently expressed what he thought of seeing his face again.)
“Why don’t you just say what it is you want, Wright?” Edgeworth demands and means so much more than just, say you’re accusing Adrian Andrews so we can get on with this. There’s also: What aren’t you telling me?
(Why do you brace your shoulders as if you are carrying a burden so heavy?)
As soon as the Judge has his gavel in hand and the words fall off his tongue, “Now then, we shall set Ms. Andrews’ testimony for tomorrow…”, Edgeworth sees it.
The terror in Wright’s face.
“You must pass a verdict today!” Wright shouts and it’s stupid. It’s so stupid; why is he running around in circles as if his life depended on this case? Why is he fooling himself chasing a lie? Is this his characteristic stubborn-hearted, resolute faith in his client rearing its spiky head, or is this something else? Something deeper?
He could have sworn that earlier, Wright’s mouth had soundlessly spoken, “Then Maya…!”
And maybe he still is a fool, but he is not the same fool he was a year ago, and that is all the difference.
“Your Honor,” Edgeworth says and does not move, does not flinch, or laugh or smile to break the important threadline of his eye contact with Wright’s, “I request that you please continue with today’s trial.”
He knows he is not imagining the relief that floods Wright’s face across the courtroom.
- o - o - o -
The calling card with that damn shell on it, spinning idly and harmlessly in Adrian’s fidgeting hand, makes everything clear.
(Almost everything.)
Admittedly, some part of Edgeworth’s case relies on the information Wright tells him the next morning when they cross paths at the hospital. The man is a fool to have brought tulips, however thoughtful he may have thought he was being for Franziska; anyone knows daisies or peonies would have been a much clearer message of well-wishing.
Yet Edgeworth cannot think to find it in himself to hold that against him when Wright loosens his tongue and admits, “Maya…she’s been kidnapped.”
The ground reminds him that it exists when his legs feel weak.
“K-kidnapped? What does the kidnapper want?!”
“An acquittal.”
And suddenly the weight on Phoenix’s shoulders has a name.
“I see,” Edgeworth murmurs, “I had no idea.” And it feels so little, so underwhelming compared to everything else he wants to say but does not have the composure for. Anger: you fool, Wright! You should have told me this from the beginning! Fear: another life is in danger and we must all dread carefully here because it was mercy that took the blood off my hands last time; it will not be so if this goes wrong. Clarity: this explains why Wright was so desperate yesterday. Dread: this confirms the defendant is indeed the assassin’s client and, in fact, guilty.
To…something else, entirely. Something touched.
(Is this what trust feels like?)
“I will prepare a rescue team as soon as possible, and resolve this by tomorrow,” Edgeworth promises.
He doesn’t expect Wright’s cooperation. The spitting anger that Wright throws in his face immediately afterward is more than just a year-long in building. Wasn’t the very reason he became a defense attorney to see Edgeworth again? And here Edgeworth turned his back on that and abandoned him for months on end.
Well.
The Prosecutor Miles Edgeworth truly will choose death before abandoning him now.
(No one ever said you must bear the weight of your burden alone, Wright.)
- o - o - o -
The instant Wright has his arms around Maya again, the world is as it should be. Maya is weak and she is starved and she is pale and dirty, but she is alive and smiling and in one piece and it is all they have hoped for.
The three of them sink to the floor in the middle of the courtroom lobby: Wright, Maya, and Pearl. They clutch each other like the patchwork-quilt family Edgeworth knows they are.
There are two more soundless words Wright mouths to him over Maya’s tangled hair: “Thank you.”
They are needless. Edgeworth was only returning the favor Wright did him a year ago; he was not working to be thanked. But with grace, he crosses his arms over his chest and reluctantly accepts it anyway.

favorite female character
HM.... man there’s so many!!! maya obvs is so fuckin good watching her open up and her good natured bullying of nick and her lesbianism,,, love her so much! all of the family shit she goes though... she rlly only has nick and pearl as far as family even if mia is watching over her and despite that she is so damn strong!! love maya
ALSO TRUCY,,, everything abt her from her design to her and nick taking care of each other to her still maintaining a childlike innocence through a (understandably) v rough childhood? she’s so good Ultimate Daughter and i would kill and die for her
special mentions to franziska, kay, pearl, and ema!!!! they’re all v good as well :)
favorite male character
mr. miles edgeworth i love you more than most fictional characters from any media i’d die and kill for you sir. his character arc being the driving force behind the first game and his gradual growth throughout the rest of the series, especially the culmination in aai2.... fucking superb i am close to tears thinking abt it!! emotionally stunted but extremely fatherly law men make me :cryingcat:
i love phoenix but for a long time i just kinda ignored his characterization in aj but after reconciling the two as The Same Phoenix i guess i have a better appreciation for his character? he’s a good dad and just a bit stupid i love him
apollo justice makes me lose it but also i kinda ignore all the plot that happened in aa5-aa6 just bc i Don’t Like Those Games Much so rlly my opinion is based on aa:aj! his biting sarcasm and general goofyness really make him seem WAY younger than aa1 phoenix which i like! also he’s gay and trans
favorite book/season/etc
u know before u streamed aai 2 i would’ve said that my favorite game was apollo justice but now? ace attorney investigations 2 is honestly a game that any aa fan needs to at least watch through at least once that game actually changed me as a person
favorite episode (if its a tv show)
oh him this is a hard one too!! as far as the original trilogy it’s probably either farewell, my turnabout (2-4) or bridge to the turnabout (3-5)! bridge to the turnabout especially is such a good conclusion to the trilogy, not to mention Edgeworth Defense Attorney makes me lose it (he wore the badge!!! he wore the fucking badge!!!!)
conversely farewell my turnabout,,, adrian deserved better and even though we got her cleared of suspicion in the end the fact that we had to accuse her and bring all that to light anyways always made me feel awful which! is how you’re supposed to feel abt it!! it’s such a good case in how it rlly makes u (as nick) question your ideals! and then the duality between phoenix struggling to find his answer and deal with a lose-lose situation and miles being resolute in his new core beliefs,,,, it’s fucking tastey
ALSO KEY POINTS
- but the miracle.... never happen
- censored penis lobster
cannot discount turnabout goodbyes either! basically last cases of aa games are generally so so good!!
favorite ship
DOES IT NEED TO BE SAID..... phoenix wright and miles edgeworth are married and in love!! also a big fan of klapollo, franmaya, and junithena!
character I’d die defending
klavier deserves to work through his awful awful trauma and is a genuinely fantastic character i wish capcom loved him as much as i do instead of reducing him to a one-case-per-game cameo character!! he just deserves resolution at the very least please!!! same with apollo that man cannot be okay after All That
also ron delite did nothing wrong he’s one of my fav defendants
character I just can’t sympathize with
GODOT MISOGYNIST PRIDE i hate him i really do

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney Part 3 - Justice for All (2nd game)
The Lost Turnabout Well, that random amnesia to set the game up again for the reader to get used to things again was...random lol. Gotta love the fake dying message that had such beautiful legible writing lol. And I guess these are one of the moments when we should thank parents for using weird and unique spellings of a name, really helps to prove that you’re not a murderer! Kinda baffled with the whole thing though, the defendant and the criminal were both so bland, and the whole case was pretty simple. But, yeah, it’s the first case to get things flowing again so I guess that’s normal! Nice to see Maya back though!~
Reunion, and Turnabout Pearl is an interesting girl…lol. I’m not sure why Mia didn’t want to reveal her aunt as an accomplice for this story, since if she doesn’t reveal it, Maya could be found guilty, especially if Phoenix isn’t able to find evidence for that. Initially, I wasn’t really sure what to think about the whole case being in the village where Maya is from and where she does her training etc, but I guess it’s nice to see her background etc. As for the case itself, although I still suck at knowing when to press statements, I’m a bit better at knowing what to present as evidence hahaha. Anyway, it was obvious that the murderer was the real Mimi who had taken her sister’s face to try and live a new life. So it was easy to know the motives etc, and how she hid in the box behind the screen etc, I guess I was mostly in a bit of a bind in terms of how the murder happened and the reason for the gunshots haha. Otherwise, that was a pretty average case, mostly because I think the witnesses and murderer this time around wasn’t very interesting. Lmao at the daughter von Karma whipping everyone she hates and then whipping Phoenix until he was unconscious when she lost lmao. Hopefully the next case is more interesting~ and I wonder what happened to Edgeworth?
Turnabout Big Top Maxis an interesting character. He looks cool, but dang does he look silly when he reverts to being a country bumpkin lolll. And…I establish that no one in this circus seems normal. Not sure about that daughter of the victim, she looks like she barely cared that her father just got murdered… Great to know that she’s sheltered and so knows nothing about outside of this circus, but dang lmao, she seems to like the puppet more than Max hahahaha. And did Franziska upgrade her whip? It looks different lol. So…Acro has a brother called Bat (loll) who is in a coma after getting bitten on the head by the lion…and this lion got shot by the Ringmaster after it happened… Hmmmm. Oh…Acro is in a wheelchair because he tried to save his brother from the lion… And Bat did what he did because he made a dare with Regina, that if he could do the same thing as her (put his head in the lion’s mouth), she would go on a date with him… How saddening yet ridiculous.
Lmao when Acro comes to court as a witness, and when Phoenix claims that he’s actually the culprit, one of the birds that flies around Acro pecks Phoenix on the head as a background thing lolll. Anyway, once we did more investigations, it was obvious that Acro was the murderer and that his aim was Regina. However, I just feel that the villains this time around in this game have rather dubious motives. I guess it was kinda cool how the “murderer who flew away” came about with the stone bust being pulled up when the coat etc accidentally caught on to it, I just think everything that occurred was still rather anticlimactic though and lacked impact this time around so I couldn’t really like it tbh.. It didn’t help that I didn’t like any of the witnesses lolll. It was understandable how things happened, but at the same time, it wasn’t a very interesting case tbh.
Farewell, my Turnabout Lmao at the Steel Samurai becoming the Nickel Samurai, this show is never gonna end, is it? Omggg Lotta again? Gotta admit, she’s not my favourite witness so seeing her twice in one game kinda kills me lol. On the other hand, I like Wendy Oldbag but she can get rather overbearing lol, so this pairing kills me. When they talked about how the manager Adrian Andrews might be the killer since the ninja actor supposedly hid her mentor’s suicide note, and since she attempted suicide because of how reliant and dependent she was on her mentor when it came to living, I guess it is possible. But I think what hit me the most was when they talked about her “dependent nature”, where she basically always needed someone important enough to her so that she would have a reason to continue living. To an extent, I can kinda relate to that, tbh, although I’m not as extreme as her, sometimes I do feel that if I lost my siblings, I don’t think I’d ever be able to pick myself up.
Anyway, since Edgeworth is back, it was expected that something would happen to Franziska to prevent her from being the prosecutor. It took a while but I’m glad to see Edgeworth and Phoenix in court together. Omggg, Engarde just turned ugly when he revealed his true self!! He was such a pretty boy too, sigh! It’s really interesting to think about the idea that Phoenix’s client is actually guilty for once. He got an assassin to kill Corrida, and Andrews got wrapped up in this when she decided to “frame” Engarde for it. But I think Celeste (Andrews mentor who committed suicide) was the most innocent victim of all this. She first “dated” Engarde back then but was thrown away, and when she thought she could have a happy marriage with Corrida, Engarde decides to tell the guy that they used to be together, so then Corrida called off the marriage, and that led her to commit suicide. But I think the most saddening thing was that even though she committed suicide, none of these guys she so loved were unhappy, instead they were still consumed in their stupid rivalry, where Corrida wanted to use the suicide note she left to show the world Engarde’s true self. It’s so saddening to think of her life just amounting to them as something like that.
It’s interesting that the last case aims at delaying the trial to save Maya since they already know Engarde is guilty, but at the same time, it’s kinda boring? It doesn’t have the same feel as the other cases where you can reveal more and more pieces of the puzzle on what actually happened, and instead focuses on how they can use everything they can to delay the verdict. Which is…quite questionable tbh. Lmaoo at Shelly De Killer (the assassin) being a witness hahahah, and it was so funny when Phoenix presses on one of his statements and asks what’s his fee, and the judge thinks Phoenix wants to kill him lmaooo. Gotta love it when Shelly gets flustered and the transceiver starts leaking oil or whatever lolll. Anyway, I knew that they’d use the fact that Engarde recorded the murder to blackmail Shelly in order to get the latter to turn against his client since he’s so hung up on the trust factor between clients. I mean, you’ve gotta admire Shelley’s work ethic! Lol.
Anyway, I didn’t like the last case in terms of story and how it played out. I think I much prefer the usual Phoenix uncovering the truth bit by bit without really knowing who the culprit is and how they did it until later, against this Engarde case that was just..such compiled with a crappy villain with crappy motives, he was basically a bad villain with no depth. I liked it that they established that both the prosecution and defence work for the truth. But at the same time, I have to say, I don’t feel like the last case really portrayed what it means to be the defence and the prosecution. I had more expectations on how it would be better handled in terms of having a “guilty” defendant as well, but yeah… Oh well. At least everyone is happy and Franziska might be a bit more like the current Edgeworth and not be so hung up on winning all the time.
Overall, I’d say Justice for All was a pretty lacklustre sequel. It rides on a lot of old characters from the previous game, which can be pretty cool, but I think just like how Powers introduces himself as an underpaid action star (LOL), this sequel was underwhelming to say the least. But I guess the biggest problem were just the stories themselves, they just weren’t very interesting, and the way things happened either felt rather cliche or just kinda over the top in a bit of a ridiculous way, whereas in the previous game, it felt like the cases and how they went about it made more sense and was done better. Also, I think Franziska wasn’t a very “fun” prosecutor either, like, I just don’t think she meshed well with Phoenix. Like, when it came to Edgeworth and von Karma, they both were unique enough that they bring a different sort of bantering and connection with Phoenix in court, whereas Franziska is basically just a whipping monster lol. Anyway, hopefully the next game will be better!

the youngest starship captain
.
Ok, im gonna info dump about this au under the cut :p
Franziska is the captain, Captain Von Karma if you will
Maya is an alien dignitary who’s on her ship, either being escorted somewhere or she’s there because of the power unique to select members of her species, which is very useful on missions, but she also has a specific interest in the captain (yes, its franmaya, i cant be stopped)
Athena is communications officer, the freshly promoted Lieutenant Cykes, i think shes probably some sort of alien too, her species is well known for its auditory empathy and she knows like 27 languages or something wild like that
Science officers: Lieutenant commander Adrian Andrews, Lieutenant Ema Skye (i thought about making her a red shirt to parallel canon but i want her to have her dreams), Lieutenant Apollo Justice (or he could be in engineering idk, he would be red then......)
Security officers: Gumshoe and Maggey Byrde (red shirts but they will never die in my universe, no one will die)
Others: Clay Terran! Hes there hes a navigator!, Miles Edgeworth is a high ranking officer in star fleet (he shows up from time to time doing commander things), Phoenix used to be a captain (but he was disgracefully discharged after a false accusation for some sort of space crime and he was just like off on some planet for a while raising trucy, then his innocence got proven and he was reinstated and was promoted, but hes not like on an active mission he works at a star fleet base with edgeworth and takes trucy to school), idk who else!

Kay takes her boss-slash-friend Franziska to a rock concert, much to the latter’s annoyance. But Franziska might forgive her after she sees the band’s vocalist. Rock star AU. Franmaya (or at least the beginnings of). Unedited. Approx. 1300 words.
“…Kay Faraday. I thought you said we were going to a concert.”
Franziska was not happy, and she made that abundantly clear through her tone and facial expression when Kay happily bounced back holding onto two cups of…was that beer? Despite Franziska’s utter look of disgust, she took the cup when Kay offered it, though did not bring said cup to her lips.
“This is a concert! Look around you!” Kay outstretched her arms, causing some of her beer to spill onto the floor. Not that anyone minded, of course. Many others had already done the same. Franziska wondered if the floor was permanently stained – did the over-saturation of beer and other alcohol change the original color?
“I had assumed you meant an orchestra. Not this…foolish display of irresponsibility and future alcoholism.”
Her insults never really did affect Kay, did they? She just smiled widely and put her free hand on Franziska’s shoulder, pulling her in close.
“I said you needed to loosen up. You’ve been working nonstop, especially since Mr. Edgeworth has gone overseas so you’re without your partner! And even though its been months, I know you’re still upset about Adrian-”
“I’m fine. And Miles Edgeworth being gone is a blessing. It allows me to run things the way they should be run. Perfectly.” Her brother-slash-partner being away for a few months to check on the German branch of their corporate law firm saddled her with their domestic clientele, so she admittedly was sleeping even less than she normally did. Plus, even though their breakup was amicable and was really only due to Adrian having to move out of the country, Franziska would often find herself wistful if she thought about it for more than two minutes. So, in a way, the work helped with that too.
“Well even if you think you’re perfect at hiding your feelings and stress, I can see it.” Finally, Franziska took a sip of that beer. It was awful, but the alcohol perhaps would make this conversation less unbearable. When exactly did she become friends with Miles’ assistant? Kay had a way of just worming her way into everyone’s hearts unexpectedly. It was…strange.
“So you’re solution is to take me to a rock concert. You should know I hate this type of environment.” Too messy. Too many people just yelling and pushing each other. Too much chaos. Franziska preferred order and structure.
“And that’s why I brought you here!” Kay smiled that goofy smile of hers, and Franziska resisted the urge to cross her arms over her chest in aggravation – if she did, she might accidentally spill beer on her clothes, which would just make the whole night even worse.
“Your logic astounds me, Kay Faraday.” The sarcasm was thick, but Kay ignored it.
“I figured if I drove I could trap you here,” Kay said, sticking her tongue out in what she probably thought was a cheeky fashion. “Hey, I made it so that we got her after the pre-bands, at least!”
“How wonderful. So I just get to witness the group everyone came here for and thus will react the strongest to. I cannot wait for my eardrums to rupture from all the excitement.” Again, Kay ignored Franziska’s sarcasm, and chose instead to just finish off her beer.
“Also you should be happy I’m not forcing you out on the floor with the mosh pit. Though I will probably abandon you at one point to get in on that action.”
“How could you possibly-”
The dimming of the lights was met with thunderous cheers and screams, and Franziska noticed people flock to the main floor, smashing into each other in their attempts to reach the front of the stage. It was barbaric to her at first glance, but she then noticed that when a small girl fell down, people immediately yelled to pick her up, and they did. Huh…it seemed there were some uncodified conventions amidst all the chaos.
Franziska kept her eyes on the stage; one by one the band members came out, and if it was possible, the crowd became louder and louder with each one. First – the drummer. An extremely tall man dressed in all black. His thick hair was pulled back into a ponytail, and Franziska wondered if the white in his bangs was dye or it was naturally like that. Based on the screams of “we love you Simon” Franziska deduced that his name was…Simon.
Second…Franziska assumed it was the bassist. Her hair was brown, and combed over so that most of it fell on her right side in a messy fashion. She had pink strange-looking goggles on her head and wore what may have been a lab coat sometime in the past. It was tattered and frayed at the edges, and in some places held together with string and belts.
The guitarist was the third, and the one who acknowledged the audience the most. Blond, tanned, gorgeous…he was most teenage girl’s dream. Plus, his outfit exposed part of his chest and abdomen…just enough to tease those who were looking. He blew a kiss, and Franziska was surprised that some of the audience members didn’t faint right there.
She waited for the singer, but the vocalist was nowhere to be seen even as the three instrumentalists began playing. Whether the crowd reacted so…enthusiastically was because this was a favorite or because they were excited to get things started was unclear. Franziska knew this was going to be a long night.
Another sip of that disgusting beer.
Which she almost choked on when the vocals began, and the spotlight showed the singer fearlessly dangling off the side of one of the second-floor banisters.
But the apparent danger – which said vocalist didn’t seem to care at all about – was not why Franziska ended up coughing up some of that drink.
How…how could such a reckless woman be so captivating at first sight?
Franziska stared, her mouth partially open in an ungraceful manner. The vocalist made her way down to the stage, where she put the microphone she had been holding into its holder. She grabbed onto it as she broke into the chorus, allowing her voice to become slightly raspier and louder. Strangely, Franziska found it alluring.
She wondered how the beads on some of the ends of the musician’s hair weren’t annoying, especially given how much she ran and jumped around the stage. Her black hair had accents of pink and purple, and she wore a long purple jacket over a crème-colored dress that split down the front, revealing black shorts under a thick purple fabric belt. Franziska wondered if it was those legs or just the amount of body heat in this place that made her suddenly feel so much warmer.
The singer didn’t seem to mind when people climbed onto the stage and began singing with her, though they were never allowed up there for long before she pushed them back to the crowd, which would carry them to the back of the floor. Another rule amongst the bedlam.
After the song was finished, the band immediately started up another one – was their stamina so great that they really could keep up this amount of energy for…two hours?
Still, Franziska turned to Kay, who thankfully hadn’t abandoned her for the moshing just yet, to ask a question.
“Who is she?” She hopefully spoke loud enough for Kay to hear her over the roaring of the guitar and the beats of the bass and drum and over that voice.
“Who? The singer?”
Franziska nodded.
“Maya Fey! She’s a fucking beast!” Judging from Kay’s tone, that was a high compliment.
Still though, Franziska turned back, unable to tear her eyes away.
“Maya Fey…”
She said the woman’s name to herself, to make sure that she would not forget it.

Having just found out that we probably will get a NEW switch Ace Attorney game I have basically spent the last six hours thinking solidly about what the new games could hold.
Do I have still have any idea?
No.
But I have gone through a lot of stuff that will never happen and developed a hazy outline of what I would do with the next games if I could.
1. Split the series
- With Apollo starting out on his own at the end of SOJ, now would be a perfect time to let him have his own series of games and tie up all the plot threads left over from his first (and only) game, while also allowing him to grow as a lawyer.
- Phoenix’s games could then focus on both him and Athena, with Phoenix growing as a mentor and Athena breaking away from the way her peers viewed her in SOJ and proving herself as a capable lawyer in her own rights.
- With more games we could actually bring back recurring characters again, not just having only the major ones follow us from game to game. We could see how characters like Vera have moved on with their lives like we did with Adrian, or see characters like Juniper or Datz from time to time (in the way we used to with, say, Lotta).
2. Bring back Franziska and Gumshoe
- Seriously where are they? What the heck have they been up to during all this time?
- When we last saw Franziska she had was working as an international prosecutor, if she’s climbed up the ladder since then this would be a great opportunity to find out more about how international prosecutors work as well as seeing how her prosecution style has grown with her. Also how has she changed as a person? I’d imagine that she’s become more self confident, so how does that impact on her personality?
- We know from Edgeworth in SOJ that Gumshoe’s still working under him, but is it in the same position? Also what about his personal life? Personally I’d like to see him financially stable and maybe even starting a family of his own, that would be quite a good way of reminding us of the fact that ten years have passed since the original trilogy, while also giving us a nice sense of fulfilment and the feeling that sometimes things work out well.
3. A new Khura'inese prosecutor
- After taking down Ga’ran in SOJ it’s pretty hard for Capcom to one-up the prosecutors in terms of political or legal influence, but what if the new prosecutor had a very strong influence over just one person... the Judge. The Khura'inese Judge mentioned that he has a daughter and, given the society of Khura’in it’s not unreasonable for a young woman of high social standing to enter the legal world, especially if they have family there already. Court is already bias towards the prosecution, imagine how hard it would be if you add in a proud parent and their darling daughter.
- You could tell a very interesting story with her, given that she’d have grown up largely without defence attorneys and have prosecuted through the revolution. What impact did this have on her friend and fellow citizens? How does she feel about the new changes to the legal system? How will she cope with her position being tarnished by her own father?
- You could actually have background and development for a Judge, something the series has never done before.
- Plus we haven’t had a main female prosecutor since Franziska, which is kind of disappointing when you think about it.

Sicktember Day 12: Stress-Related Illness
Fandom: Ace Attorney Characters: Adrian Andrews, Franziska von Karma
Notes: Recently I was informed Fradrian has become a rarepair (many years ago, it was hoppin and boppin), so I’m gonna make some Fradrian crumbs and possibly even a whole cake! This is set after SoJ and Franziska & Adrian have been married for a while. Adrian has been hired to coordinate an event linked to Kurain Village, and her diligence, while admirable, can get carried away sometimes.
Franziska silently faced the unoccupied pillow, frowning. It was almost midnight, she had an investigation to supervise tomorrow, and here she was wide awake. The same could be said about her wife, who was at least a majority of the reason Franziska was awake. It had been nearly an hour since Adrian left the bedroom, and Franziska was starting to doubt she only got up to make sure she didn’t leave any lights on. She sighed and got up to leave the bedroom, then making her way to the home office, where she had more than a hunch Adrian would be.
“Oh, shoot, I can’t arrange it like that! It’ll be too much like the last exhibit…” Adrian fretted before muffling some coughs into her fist. “Miss Fey trained so hard, I can’t cut corners here.”
“Adrian.” Franziska got her attention; her voice was warm, but still carried the point that this matter was serious. “You should be in bed.”
“Wh-Wha!? I’m fine!” Adrian insisted, though the look on her wife’s face probably meant that answer only gave more reasons to be sleeping right now.
“‘Fine’ has nothing to do with it being this late.” Franziska gestured at the clock. “But now that you’ve said that, I can’t help but notice you’ve been rather pale since this morning.”
“What do you mean? I always look like this. It’s just cold in here, really.”
Franziska raised a brow, clearly not buying it.
“How much of the day have you been spending on your work?”
“A reasonable amount, I think.” Adrian quickly turned away, shielding her face with her elbow. “H’iittsshhhu!! Hh’iiIITTSHHu!”
“Reasonable?” Franziska asked. “And bless you.”
“Thanks.” Adrian smiled sheepishly, silently scrambling to regain her composure. “And yes, reasonable. I mean, the master of the Kurain Channeling Technique is kind of a big deal, you know.”
“Believe me, I know what an important role Maya Fey holds in her culture. I also know she would not want you to be making yourself ill over planning this event that’s… When is it again?”
“In six months.”
“Exactly. You can absolutely afford to get some rest.” Franziska placed her palm on Adrian’s forehead and hummed. “I’d even say you need it. Come now, let’s get us both to bed, my love.”
“Mm…” Adrian yawned. “Alright. I hope you remember this next time you’re sick.”
“I don’t…” Franziska stopped herself from very clearly stretching the truth. She exhaled and helped Adrian up from her chair to lead her back to bed. “I’ll remember, I’m sure of it.”
“Really sure?” As exhausted as Adrian was, she couldn’t help but smile.
“Completely certain. Now get some sleep.”

FraAdrain, 4!
4 - “Do you…well…I mean…I could give you a massage?” (my girls…..)
“You look really stressed, Franziska.”
Adrian inwardly cursed the second she let that slip. Of course Franziska would be stressed, she was two days into a trial against Phoenix Wright, and it seemed that she was that close to losing yet again.
From what Adrian could discern, the defendant was innocent, but she wasn’t about to tell her girlfriend that. Franziska had become better recently in regards to believing defendants innocent until proven guilty, but whenever Phoenix Wright got involved, that same old fire would come back into her eyes.
At least she had dropped the whip habit, after all these years. She was certain that the legal world was relieved by that too.
Franziska waved her hand, “Bah. It is foolish to even think that I am stressed. I am perfect, and-”
And Franziska went on. That was the old von Karma pride that had been drilled into her skull for eighteen long years. Adrian made a mental note to speak to Phoenix Wright later, and ask him to stay away from any future cases involving Franziska.
No matter how many times they met in court, Franziska seemed destined to lose to the Turnabout King.
“You have a lot of tension in your shoulders,” Adrian cut in, “I can see it building.”
Franziska replied, “And what do you propose to do about it, then?”
Adrian rubbed her neck, “Do you…well…I mean…I could give you a massage?”
“A massage?” Franziska echoed, “What good would that do at this time? The trial begins in thirteen hours, and I must be prepared.”
It was true, according to the schedule, court reconvened for the final day Thursday morning at 10AM on the dot. This would be Franziska’s last chance against Phoenix Wright, at least, for this particular case.
Adrian responded, “I’m… good with my hands. And I think it could make you feel better, physically. You’ll have an extra edge in court! Not that you won’t win anyways. Won’t it feel good to finally defeat Mr. Wright while also being rejuvenated?”
Franziska seemed intrigued by Adrian’s explanation, “I see. Then I will take you up on this offer, Adrian.”
Adrian led her upstairs to their shared bedroom. Franziska shed her shirt and lay on her stomach, while Adrian stood over her and prepared. In her university days, before she began working under Celeste Inpax, she had been a part time employee at a massage parlour.
The fact that she had been fired after two months said absolutely nothing.
As she massaged her girlfriend’s shoulders and back, she could see the tension fleeing from her skin. Franziska seemed actually content for the first time in five days.
Perhaps she was better at this than she thought.
When she had finished, Franziska said, “Hmm… it seems that you were correct yet again. Phoenix Wright will cower in fear when he sees me!”
(The next evening, Adrian took Franziska to her favourite restaurant as compensation for losing yet again.)

Farewell, My Prologue
Thanks to this post and youtube slyly recommending me a bootleg of The Great Comet of 1812, I wrote an Ace Attorney song parody of “Prologue.” Unfortunately I don’t have enough people and musicians in my back pocket to take a stab at recording it, but here are my lyrics and original song for reference.
Enjoy!

PHOENIX:
There’s a man carrying out a plan somewhere
And Maya isn’t here
There’s a kidnapper hiding out there somewhere
And Maya isn’t here

Gonna have to study up a little bit if you want to keep with the case
‘Cause it’s a complicated kind of murder
Everyone’s got five psyche locks
So look it up in your record
We’d appreciate it, thanks a lot

And now for my commentary because I worked hard and want to write my own retrospective. If I could put a read more UNDERNEATH a read more, I would.
The original joke I made half an hour into an eight hour work shift was “And Miles isn’t here.” About twenty seconds later the weight of “Maya isn’t here” hit me, and I spent the next seven and a half hours trying to write this song parody and work at the same time (and worked more on it on and off for the next four days). I nearly changed course while thinking about the entire musical as a whole because the idea of disbarred Phoenix singing “I used to be better” is deeply upsetting. Since my gateway song was Dust and Ashes, I also considered going the Rise From the Ashes route, but ultimately kept on with Farewell, My Turnabout. Something about this musical and Farewell, My Turnabout just feels right to me.
I couldn’t find anything as succinct as ‘There’s a war going on out there somewhere’ so I settled for changing the lyric a few times. I considered making all four different, but I liked having the whole company echo Phoenix’s lines back to him. Also, most of my other takes were goofy. “There’s a cat making noise in a house somewhere” and “There’s a bear with a lens in it’s eye somewhere” felt a shade out of place (though the dream of sticking the line “Stuffed bear snatched up by Edgeworth” into this musical remains. Don’t let me take on this project). I also had “There’s a blackmail tape out there somewhere” which I do like but I feel that it’s a bit too specific for this intro.
I like how the name sequence wound up. Maya, Pearl, Mia felt appropriate. Mia was a tricky one to write because the names Natasha, Anatole, and Pierre are all HORRIBLE to work around, but I kept her description as good because she fits any definition of the word. Pearl loving Maya very much felt like a very sweet, natural fit. I stand by my decision even if loving one’s cousin makes half the internet think of the ‘localization choices’ of a certain Sailor Moon dub.
Miles is a grande dame of Moscow in part because I wanted more syllables to work with, but I also like having him a little earlier in the song to mark his importance. I left writing his piece to last because it deviated a huge amount from the original text and I also wasn’t sure where to begin. And yet, after all that consideration, I decided to make fun of him instead by drawing attention to how he’s ‘just arrived.’ Rude.
I considered keeping old-school because... it’s not wrong? What are you even wearing around your neck, Miles (and where can I get one)? A friend of mine who is partway through Rise From the Ashes suggested ‘fuchsia’ and while that is absolutely hilarious, I did already make fun of Miles once. Twice, if we count ‘and Miles isn’t here.’ I went with trusting for a few reasons. One is that this is the first time we see him talking about pursuing the truth. And he really, really, TRUSTS in that. He smiles so much in the scene where he first comes back? I had forgotten? Just how much? That’s not entirely relevant, I’m just overwhelmed because I watched that earlier. We also see him trusting in other people much more readily than before, and trust in general is a big deal in this case. Phoenix TRUSTS HIM?! OOPS I MADE THIS ABOUT NARUMITSU.
Matt Engarde’s part wrote itself (as did the chorus, oh my god. It wanted to be written). De Killer, on the other hand? THE WORST. I had more trouble with his part than anybody’s. It’s partly because his name is KILLER and assassin is so many syllables and good synonyms are hard to come by and I couldn’t make hitman work and the names Anatole and Pierre had the nerve to be in the line originally. But, I won. Take that!
Franziska had to be fierce. I wanted to use “Franziska is fierce and always perfect” because perfect has to be somewhere and I think Dolokhov’s original line about not being too important would be truly insulting to her (Show him how it’s done, Franziska). Unfortunately, I was having trouble with her second line, so I swapped things around a bit.
I threw out ‘minor characters’ in favor of ‘our witnesses’ so even though I think Gumshoe is good, ‘Gumshoe is brave’ is probably the best sentence I’ve ever written in my life. Adrian Andrews is anxious because co-dependant is a lot of syllables, and I think it’s fair to say she’s got a lot of anxiety. I feel, really, really bad that I couldn’t fit Will Powers in. I ran out of room.
Now you might be saying, “Objection! Oldbag isn’t fun!” And you would be right. It makes me laugh because CAPCOM thinks Oldbag is for fun. Why else would she be in so many games? I considered making the line “And Corrida is dead!” but ultimately decided to make the speaker a witness. And the tone doesn’t quite suit Will Powers, he’s a bit shy for the last rousing call. I’m sorry, WP.
And what of Phoenix Wright? Goodness, that was a near save. The stresses on Pierre don’t fit anything! I did originally want to keep the line “Dear, bewildered, and awkward’ intact by adding ‘at times’ to the end, but then when I went for ‘fighting for time’ in the other line, I switched out awkward. Writing that last bit about Phoenix made me emotional. I love him.
And that’s Farewell, My Prologue!

Ace Attorney headcanon compilation
I’ve posted some of these before, but I wanted to compile them all in one post.
Ema: Since no mention was ever made of Ema having once been a regular cop, maybe she performed well enough at the police academy to be hired as a detective immediately, rather than having to rise through the ranks. If so, that could have prompted some envy from the rank-and-file cops who perhaps resented having to suddenly take orders from a newbie, possibly even also because she happened to be female. That would have been yet another contributor to Ema’s grumpy disposition in AJ.
Pearl: Now that the WAA has been receiving a fairly reliable, yet modest income, Phoenix has officially hired Pearl as a part time cleaner/janitor. He figured that since she’s always been willing to clean his office for free, the least he could do is start paying her for it, now that he’s able to. She’s also on call to “office-sit” if Phoenix, Athena, and Trucy all have to be elsewhere, since Phoenix prefers to have someone there at all times during office hours in case a client comes.
Adrian Andrews: We know that during the credits of Justice For All, Adrian said Franziska told her that she could consult Franziska about anything. I was thinking about that. I bet during one of those conversations, Franziska offered to let Adrian use her name as a reference when she got out of prison and started to look for a new job, because obviously her new criminal record would hinder that. Edgeworth and Phoenix later made the same offer. So when Lordly Tailor received a job application from someone who had been in prison but had references from 3 renowned attorneys, they were intrigued and ended up hiring her.
Gumshoe: Now that Edgeworth is the Chief Prosecutor and therefore rarely handles cases personally anymore, he doesn’t really need Gumshoe’s help much. And since Ema was assigned to Nahyuta, that left an opening. So Gumshoe now works under Klavier.
Trucy & Ema: Just as Trucy roped Apollo (and now Athena) into helping her with her magic shows, she’s also decided that Ema is her Scientific Consultant. Whenever Trucy’s planning a trick and can’t quite get the scientific part(s) right, she gets Ema to help figure it out. These are mostly behind-the-scenes things, which have necessitated revealing some of her “magician’s secrets” to Ema, over which she has sworn the detective to secrecy with an actual legal contract that, naturally, she got her father to draw up.
Charley: The reason Mia loved Charley so much was that it was the last thing Diego had ever given her.
Maya: As much as she goofed around when working with Phoenix, she was also surprisingly intelligent and quickly learned how to do much of Phoenix’s behind-the-scenes paperwork. It wasn’t long before they got to the point where Maya could fill out forms and compose professional-sounding legal requests faster than Phoenix himself could, so sometimes all he had to do was add his signature, fully trusting that Maya had done everything correctly. This tendency to work quickly was what allowed her the time to goof around as much as she did. The feelings of uselessness she had at the end of the first game were mainly because she didn’t consider doing paperwork to be anything special, since Phoenix himself could do it all. (This headcanon was prompted by the canon fact that several times, Maya took the initiative to find clients for Phoenix, so I don’t think it’s much of a stretch to conclude that she actually did do some “assistant” type legal work, even the boring stuff.)
Lana Skye: After 1-5, when Lana's trial for forging evidence and tampering with a crime scene was scheduled, she asked Phoenix to defend her again. He awkwardly but politely declined, since at the time he didn't feel comfortable defending a guilty client, but he did refer her to Marvin Grossberg, who she had met through Mia. Grossberg took her case, got her a reduced sentence, and even managed to prevent her disbarment due to the unusual, extenuating, and extreme circumstances of her case. Instead, she was temporarily suspended from practicing law, a suspension which would begin when she got out of prison, and was banned from practicing in California, but allowed to practice elsewhere. Years later (in the present day SoJ time), Ema, knowing that Khura'in needed good prosecutors as well as good defense attorneys, suggested her sister to Nahyuta. He offered Lana (now Lana Marshall) a prosecuting position there. She accepted, and is now a regular prosecutor in Khura'in, working under Nahyuta. Her husband Jake Marshall moved there with her, and now works with Apollo as an investigator.
