Starfleet and the Federation are trying to rediscover their spirit of adventure and peaceful exploration. Good job the new Commander-in-Chief, one Admiral K. Janeway, knows a thing or two about that.

Or, what happens six months on from the final scene of the final episode of s3 of Picard for Seven and Janeway, with some attempt to explain how they got there, because I had questions. Lots of questions.

The record player in Cardi's room is actually not vintage! It's the Victrola 3-in-1 Bluetooth Record Player, produced c. 2017

To get deep into minutiae, the other thing they pan past on the shelf that looks like an antique cathedral radio is actually a piece of ceramic -- you can see it's holding a book. It's made from a commercially available plaster mold, namely the Duncan DM-355 B, which was manufactured in the late 70s. Here are photos of the same ceramic with a different glaze, and the mold itself :-)

Chapter Twelve: Ghost Goes Hollywood

Cardi's camcorder is part of the Sony CCD-TRVX5 series, produced c. 1998

(My understanding is the CCD-TRV75, 85 and 93 all have the same body -- but it's one of those.)

Chapter 16: Tax Season

He is, of course, playing the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), produced c. 1986-1990

The phone gadget is the Tele-Rest, produced c. 1958

The alarm clock is a Lawson Model 215 Sierra, produced c. 1948-1981 (Lawson clock history seems... complicated)

As for the phone itself... I can tell you it's this exact phone, since this prop house seems to have supplied all the props in this video, but there are too many identical puke-green rotary phones produced between the 1940s and 1970s for me to pretend I can tell which one it is (same goes for the other two rotary phones in Chapter Five).

If you turn the brightness on RHRN way the fuck up, you can see a piece of tape over the brand badge on the TV. (But that can't stop me!!!)

I'm sure most of the tech choices are just for humor and Tobias's personal nostalgia as a child of the 80s, but I do love way all of the old tech characterizes the ministry. It's not clear if they're just luddites, cheapskates, out of money, too bureaucratically inefficient to upgrade (like the government!) or if it's something completely different. But that's why set dressing is fun, it tells stories indirectly :-)

I've been frothing at the mouth since yesterday's fic update :) At every update of TBoTL, really. Speaking of which, I was feeling downright terrible right when you posted the new chapter, and it INSTANTLY rewired the chemicals in my brain. Thanks for that. Also: doodles!! I drew these a week ago but I wanted to clean them up and draw them better, but I thought why not post them anyway? I'll draw more. I will. I will because your story is stuck in my head. objectively, which prsk even do you think is the best written, and which one is the worst written?

calling one of the events objectively the best is difficult, because my personal biases will affect my answer and also because there isn't really such a thing as "objectively the best". answering for events that aren't good is a lot easier, so some examples off the top of my head would have to be sekai happy new year (filler but not in a good way), detective tenma (asspull because they needed to pad for time), on your feet (messy because they were rushing), and light up the fire (huge pacing issues but the story itself is fine).

The ranni transfeminine reading always gets me with how like. So many little details about her beside the basic "killed own mortal body, now inhabits the likeness of a woman" situation feel recontextualized with a depth they didn't have before. The fact that she allows the tarnished into the tower where her body lays only after having proven their loyalty, and it is a high recompense. She's revealing her past, the depths of her conviction, and also... herself. Her corpse that she's burned beyond recognition... we identify it by context clues- she's wearing what looks like some gender-neutral academy robes, no headwear or jewelry or anything that might clearly signal for a princess (by contrast, godwyn retains his golden hair and armbands). This strange family dynamic that we have... her deep bond with rennala, but then the distance u can't help but notice with her brothers, who've gone on completely different paths from her... by contrast instead there's this apparent closeness with her half-brother miquella, whose curse prevents him from ever growing from a boy into a man- and after he was stolen away this is particularly about not getting to do it on... his own terms, in a way. Idk. It feels relevant that despite all that happened between their parents they'd be interested in each others friendship. You understand

A nostalgia post. It's been a long time since I've drawn Meteora, and for much longer I've had an old idea related to her, namely, a decoration for tails. A long time ago, I often came across "chapters in the book of spells" that various authors did on behalf of their OCs in the SVTFOE au’s. I wanted to try it too, but nothing really worked. The title picture, poem, spells and wands did not give me much in terms of inspiration and only when I came across the idea of a diary and monsters’ tails did I strike gold.

Sadly, in another fit of self-criticism, I abandoned this project half-way through and only recently found the strength to return to it again.

Anyway, here I have several pages of Meteora's diary, in which she showcases various types of jewelry for different types of tails. I think some of the enthusiasm in the description that I have tried to convey here must belong to the ghost of Heinous (the part of her that she has been suppressing for so long). Of course, most of the decorations here would hardly work as intended (the laws of physics and high mobility of the limb will obviously be a big obstacle), but no one pretends to be realistic here.

... and at the end there is also a small gif with a ghost appearance (even two – because I still haven't decided which transition turned out better) >w<
