Fandom Wrapped (Reader Edition) 2024!
Thanks to the wonderful @kattyelf for creating this template! Links and detailed reviews under the cut.
Disclaimer: I probably read hundreds of SxF fics in the past year, and it was not easy to choose which ones to put in the list above (or below)! This fandom is full of wonderful, friendly creators and I am so glad to be part of it. I also had to narrow it down to only the ones I read and reread in 2024, not 2022 or 2023. Finally...I also happened to read many good fics only once. Sometimes a fic is just too painful or sad to reread, especially if it's not finished.
Favorite fic and author: After peace by @unhappy-sometimes!
I could gush about unso for a whole post and not be done, but I will try to contain myself. Her fic After peace originated from an AU comic she drew where Twilight was forced to retire early due a major injury, and drifted aimlessly until WISE asked him to take care of an orphan they had rescued from Project Apple. There are several things that amazed me about this fic and cemented it in first place for 2024:
The premise. It was original and so full of potential.
How personal Twilight's journey felt to me. I didn't have a life-threatening injury, but I did put my career on hiatus in the past year and have often struggled with questions of -- what am I worth when I'm not "doing" anything? I was so used to going 150% in the rat race and coming out on top at great personal cost to health and family; even if all that was bad, how else can I get that sense of accomplishment? How can I stop wanting that sense of accomplishment?
Her style, which is both vivid AND concise. The fic was around 22K words if I remember correctly, with a well-constructed plot, character arcs, plenty of emotional beats, and a satisfying resolution. I often wonder if my writing is too verbose and when I see something like After peace, it challenges me to do better.
THIS WAS UNSO'S FIRST FIC EVER. THE HELL. It's like a freshman album that gets put up for a Grammy.
Fic(s) I reread (plus runners-up):
That Time Yor Seriously Thought About Leaving by peonydee: This is a WIP with one more chapter before completion, I believe. Peonydee's style is unique in how it's hard-hitting and disarming at the same time. Yor and Twilight find themselves in impossible situations, their relationship tested to the limit (and one of them in a close brush with death), yet there's still an undercurrent of wry humor, almost fatalistic due to the fact both of them have been steeped in death and dirty work for decades, yet still hopeful and reaching for each other. I also cackle every time she makes Twilight go off on a mansplaining tangent without ever using the term outright. A masterpiece of show not tell.
Is It Really All Right? by zyzy1083: This one is tender. A jealous!Loid fic with a fascinating portrayal of Loid from Yor's perspective. The imagery of a dark sea choking down any true thought or emotion from breaking for air will stay with me for a long time. There's also the fact she basically made up lyrics for an indie song as part of the plot and I had to ask whether it was a real song. Finally, there's the fact she was bold enough to portray Loid as less than a perfect, kind, smiley husband toward Yor, but in a believable way. He snaps at Yor at times. He loses his patience. It feels like a real relationship, in the awkward tension when one partner wants to talk and the other absolutely does not want to talk. I admire that courage and wish more authors would take that risk (calling myself out I guess!).
Green-eyed Monster by bigbruja: another jealous!Loid fic that's lighthearted and fun. This is a comfort reread. I enjoy seeing Loid recognize the threat of a supposed "old friend" of Yor's, questioning his own feelings and how far he needs to go to fend this guy off. The guy is a Garden assassin, unbeknownst to him. I also love Yor's own inner struggle of just wanting everyone to get along, but showing steel when she needs to.
dalliance by rosetintednerdglasses: this is a WIP, but it is HILARIOUS and I hope everyone will go encourage this author to pick this fic back up when they have a chance. TLDR, Twilight (in disguise) is sent on a joint mission with Thorn Princess and flips out internally when he sees it's Yor. Handler then orders him to ensure Thorn Princess continues to cooperate. So as Twilight, he has to sort-of honey trap Thorn Princess, while as Loid he has to keep Yor happy. Poor Yor believes she's torn between two different men and close to cheating on Loid! Situational hilarity all over the place, and fun world-building, like this other WISE agent randomly named "Steel Bunny" (LOL).
Not According to Plan by @kyrathel: love you girl! This is a gift fic for me, but that's not the reason I reread it (even though it's a WIP as well!). It's SO FUNNY. Twilight gets it in his overly anxious head that he MUST defend his wife from the bullies at City Hall, so what does he do? HE INFILTRATES CITY HALL AS A NEW FEMALE HIRE. The world absolutely needs more petty!Twilight! The latest chapter features laxative brownies. Enough said.
Let's start living dangerously by @beannoss: I specifically reread the later parts when dumb Twilight gets over his dumbness and finally talks to Yor! And they kiss again! I love the way huhwaku (beannoss) portrays overthinking Twilight AND overthinking Yor. And also, the simplicity of Yor at the same time. The voice she uses for both of them is refreshing, it really puts you in the mindset of the character. Yor's giggles ("teehee!") as she teases Twilight about his little perfectionist habits are a cute touch to a gentle, heartwarming fic about these two highly competent professionals just starting to take baby steps in how to be competent at a relationship.
Fic that made me emotional:
100% Perfect by @sometimesiship. Where do I begin? How about with the gut aversion I initially had to the premise of a futuristic AI dating bot AU, due to all the tragic, dark AI movies I have watched? But as it neared completion, someone convinced me to give it a try and I AM SO GLAD I DID. You can see my gushing comments in almost every chapter. The development of the relationship between human Yor and AI Loid is so natural, funny at times, poignant always, and beautifully written, even though from an objective standpoint not much exciting stuff happens (I mean canon-typical excitement like murders and spy missions). Sometimesiship has a way of describing emotion that is so raw -- she can portray the same emotion a dozen different ways with analogies and setups and dialogue and whatever -- and it still doesn't feel old. And the emotion that dominated the second half of the story was grief. Basically the grief of loving someone you know you're going to lose. Like being the spouse of a terminal cancer patient. I didn't cry while reading, but it was a closer call than I have had in a VERY long time. So much beauty and humanity in this story. And spoiler (?), it's a happy ending. So I hope you all go check it out!
That's a wrap! If you read this far, stay tuned for a Writer version of Fandom Wrapped 2024!

Saving Grace Chapter 24
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Aurora Stark
Summary: Aurora journeys to the afterlife.
Warnings: Goddess symbolism (death/rebirth)
Series Masterlist
“Kid, no offense, but I didn’t sacrifice myself for you to rain on my parade.”
Aurora hadn’t heard his voice in six months, but it resounded as clear as crystal. She looked around the infinite void, eyes filling with tears as Tony sauntered into view. “Dad…”
“Oh, honey, don’t cry.” He smiled softly, taking a step and another until he was directly in front of her. He tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, and she leaned in; his fatherly touch sorely missed. “You know all this mushy stuff is too much for your old man.”
Aurora huffed a small laugh, opening her eyes, to see moisture collecting unbidden in his. “Am I…?”
“Yeah, honey, you died. What on Earth were you thinking?” His tone held no anger, only his characteristic sass.
“I did it for Bucky,” she answered, knowing in her heart she’d do it again.
“That man is going to be the ruin of our family.” Again, there was no bitterness, just an unspoken acceptance. Death offered perspective, and Tony saw Bucky for who he truly was—a man whose life ended too soon, who was reborn again as the Winter Soldier, and again into the man his daughter loved. “I ought to have words with your mother.”
“What does Mom have to do with this?” asked Aurora, though she already hankered a guess.
Tony smirked. “Turns out love is the greatest source of power there is, but it can’t be quantified in an Infinity Stone. It takes us measly humans, or aliens, or androids—you get the gist—to do something incredible with it.”
“What does that mean?”
“It means you have a choice to make. You can either stay here with your old man, or dot, dot, dot.”
~ * ~
“Come with us, White Wolf.” Contrary to their strained relationship since Latvia, Ayo’s gentle words conveyed a promise of redemption and renewed friendship. “We will bury her in Wakanda.”
Scrunching up his face, Bucky nodded. “Yeah,” he rasped, glancing over Aurora’s body. His eyes alighted on the gold chain, a strangled noise filling his throat at the sight of her wedding ring. He swallowed roughly, grasping the small gold band between his forefinger and thumb. She’d worn it all this time. “Let me make a call first.” He retrieved his phone from his pocket and shakily dialed Sam’s number. “Sam?”
“Hey, man, what’s up? Any new leads?”
“I- I lost her. Aurora. She… She’s gone.” Saying it aloud cemented it, triggering a fresh wave of tears. Holding the phone away from his ear, he brought his hand to his mouth and silently cried.
There was a pause on the other end, then— “Buck, I’m— I’m so sorry.”
“I’m going with Ayo to Wakanda.”
Bucky could practically see Sam nodding, as he processed the news. After another lengthy pause, Sam said, “Yeah, yeah… Aurora loved it there. It’s where the two of you—” He cut himself off, but Bucky knew what he was thinking. It was fitting that it should end where it all began. “I’ll be there.”
“Thanks, Sam.”
Bucky carried Aurora’s lifeless body out of the house. She weighed a feather. Ahead of him, the Royal Talon Fighter hovered in the clearing, along with Zemo, detained by the Dora Milaje. Face contorting with rage, he carefully deposited Aurora into Ayo’s arms and stomped forward, snow crunching underfoot.
He reared back his vibranium fist, punching Zemo squarely in the jaw, staggering him. “You fuckin’ bastard!” He shouted, gripping the other man by the lapels of his jacket with trembling hands, his eyes teeming with tears. There were so many things he wanted to do. The thoughts that ran through his mind rampant and sinister, each grislier than the former.
“I did not intend for this to happen,” said Zemo, a quiet contrast to Bucky’s violent outburst. “You do not have to worry about scratching my name off your list. I— do not deserve your forgiveness, nor will I ask for it.”
“Damn right,” Bucky snarled. “You’re lucky I don’t kill you, but unlike you, I know that revenge doesn’t solve anything. It won’t bring her back, just like it won’t bring back your family. She taught me that. But, I swear to whatever gods exist, if I see your face again, I will not hesitate.”
“Bucky…”
His breath lodged itself in his windpipe, eyes blinking rapidly in disbelief. Had his crazy caught up with him? Was he going delusional after all this time? It made sense that Aurora’s death would cause him to finally snap from reality.
Releasing Zemo, he turned at a snail’s speed. No, he wasn’t crazy or hallucinating. Amidst a halo of warm golden light outlining her, Aurora stood, supported by Ayo, whose eyes shimmered with tears. The light subsided, leaving Aurora shivering in her blood-stained dress.
“I suppose you can’t easily kill a demigoddess.”
“Aurora…” He closed the space between them in record time even for a Super Soldier, shrugging off his coat and wrapping it around her shoulders. He palmed her body, cupping her face between his flesh and vibranium hands, blue eyes searching.
“I’m here, Bucky.”
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into him and murmuring into her hair, “Thank, God.”
~ * ~
Aurora sat on the edge of the bed, watching Bucky; her brow pinched. He was staring. Staring wasn’t unusual for him, but there was a pensiveness in his expression that stirred an uneasy feeling in her stomach. Their flight home delayed by a blizzard, they had no choice but to get a hotel room.
“You’re quiet tonight.”
Bucky shifted his gaze, a sweeping pass over her before he looked down. “What Zemo said about protecting you—”
“Bucky, don’t.” He crossed the room and knelt in front of her, hands splayed across her thighs as his head lay in her lap. She threaded her fingers through his hair. “If I’ve learned anything over the past five years, it’s that we can’t always protect each other. I lost you and my dad to a mad titan. The future is uncertain, yes, but… loving you makes it all worthwhile.”
“You love me, even after…?”
She sighed, her chest tightening at the defeat lacing his voice. “When you helped Zemo escape prison, you couldn’t have predicted this. You acted on good intentions, on what you believed was right.”
“It- It got you killed,” he croaked.
“I know, but it wasn’t your fault. You hear me?” Tipping his chin up to look at her, she smiled sadly—he teetered on the balance of recovery and setback, contrition warring with his self-destructive tendencies.
“I’m so sorry.”
“Hey,” she tenderly kissed his forehead and whispered, “at least he brought you back to me.”
His head fell back to her lap, and he stayed in that position. Silence stretched between them, neither uncomfortable nor forced upon with unnecessary verbiage. After a few minutes, Bucky asked, “What do you do with that? The uncertainties, the no-guarantees?”
Here was a man who’d seen war. A man who’d been captured, experimented on, brainwashed, and tortured. There were no right words. What comfort could she possibly give? Then, it dawned on her.
“You live.”

I do think 70s devils minion adds a whole layer to Daniel and Armand's relationship that we're not really taking into account enough bc while it does kind of technically happen in canon (that they break up and then get back together) we never actually get to SEE them when they're back together and so its not really taken into consideration for their dynamic.
But like Armand is someone who has for his entire life been another person's possession, who has defined himself as a person that people Have instead of Love. And what the Queen of the Damned chapter shows is Daniel Molloy as someone who Armand wanted to possess and who wanted to be possessed by Armand. Armand has never owned anything in his entire 500 year life and so he NEEDS to own Daniel, he needs to have just this ONE THING to himself after all this time. And Daniel for his part is very into being so consumed by another person. For a time, Daniel is exactly what Armand needs. Here is a person who cannot hurt him, who wants to belong to him, who he can finally assert authority over and in doing so assert his own independence. Nobody in Armand's life has ever been truly HIS in the way that Daniel is.
But the longer theyre together the less urgent the need to possess and control is, and the more Armand is able to love Daniel selflessly, the more they come into conflict because Daniel still WANTS that level of obsession. Their breakup in the books is inevitable because their relationship was built on impulses that, while important stages in their growth, over time became unhealthy. Daniel needs to get out of his cycle of addiction and Armand needs to grow past needing to possess people to believing they'll stay of their own free will. So they need to break up.
BUT unlike in the books where Armand's resolve ultimately fails him and he turns Daniel anyways, cementing the both of them into both of their unhealthiest habits, show Armand manages to work through his issues to the next stage of his growth: that he needs to let Daniel go. And he does! He lets Daniel go and he bears the burden of their relationship alone for 50 years so that Daniel could not only have a human life but also develop as a person in a way he never could have if he stayed with Armand. Show Daniel is a different man from 70s/book Daniel. He knows who he is. Even though he's falling back into old patterns now that he's a vampire he's still been through this cycle a few times and hes stronger now than he would have been if he was turned when he was 30.
I think, assuming devils minion did happen in the 70s, the present Daniel/Armand dynamic will be different from what we're expecting because they've finally grown enough as people so that they can come together on equal footing which is really important bc Armand has never been someone's equal in a relationship before! This is new territory for him! So I think their relationship has potential for development of both of them as characters to places they never got to go in the books. Please note that this is NOT me saying they will have a perfectly well adjusted healthy relationship I just think that this is the next step past their old dynamic and probably will be more dangerous for other people than it is for them which is always a win.
#also sorry daniel/marius fans but i do think that the 50 year timeskip eliminated the necessity for daniel to ever hang out with marius#iwtv#interview with the vampire#devils minion#armand#benni proof#blorboposting

Polygun but it’s how they all see each other
i always really like in books with different narrators when how a character looks itself is unreliable narration bc they describe themself differently compared to how the other pov characters see them, and the dungeon meshi shapeshifter chart scratched that itch for me art wise and I got inspired ✨
To be more specific this is what they each picture when they think of each person 👉👈
Details under cut!!
Meryl clothing details aside because I think she’s just short and the boys aren’t looking at her traveling clothes too hard (and vash clearly likes making his own clothes with how much his overly intricate jacket design changes so ofc his version of her outfit just looks like another one of his designs 🙄) all of the clothes are based on specific parts of the manga!
A big thing with these designs was taking moments that were important regarding each characters relationship with the pov character and adding in visual nods to that to show what memories stuck with them to shape their image of that person.
The clearest example of this is everyone thinking of a different Vash coat, for Wolfwood it’s what he was wearing when he turned him over to Knives, to Meryl it’s his final fight coat, and for Milly it’s when she met him.
It may be Trimax but I will always have a soft spot for 98 millywood so those two’s impression of each other has been influenced by that, but more specifically just the idea of them both alone together, layers and walls down, hair messy from sleep. Their relationship is one I just see very clearly developing over a lot of late nights at inns and bars during traveling!
Vash is the trademarked inventor of Savior Martyr Victim complex supreme and when he thinks of everyone he sees times they’ve been let down by him. To me he’s the biggest broken gear in their dynamic because of the way he holds himself back and isolates, the ship really works in spite of him most of the time. But he also sees traces of times his desire to be by their side was cemented. His Meryl is heavily based on after she was kidnapped by the GHGs and he lost control in front of her, but her hair is longer + earrings are gone like when they saw each other again after Knives released the ark, and she has a black turtleneck peaking out from under her traveling clothes the way it did under her space suit during the final battle. His Milly has the hair and undershirt of the final battle but her outer clothes are from when they traveled together for the majority of Trimax. His wolfwood isn’t doing too well.
Meryl’s versions of Milly and Wolfwood are both pretty similar to how they looked when she first met them, wolfwoods hair is just a little longer like I imagine it being towards the end of Trimax and is very windswept, from their short first meeting in the original Trigun manga run I always got the impression she thought he looked very cool lol, she was staring up at him like ://0 the whole chapter.
I mentioned it before but honestly most of Wolfwood’s Vash is based on how he looked when he turned him over to Knives, not only do I think that moment stuck with him but I feel like it’s a good visual summary of all the mixed feelings he has towards Vash. He’s drawn to him and sees how sad he his but he also sees how inhuman he is and the threat he and knives pose for the people he cares about and prioritizes. At the end of the day Wolfwood chose the orphans over Vash twice and never went back on that, and a big part of why he broke Vash our of Knives prison was just so he could go fight Knives to the death for humanity’s sake, and I think that’s important to his character and their relationship.
Similarly, Meryl’s Vash is really just final arc Vash. She’d already developed a very strong impression of him before then but they would go weeks to even years without seeing each other and each time the way he looked and the way she felt about him would change drastically, it seemed to me like it wasn’t till she was on the ship advocating for him and the people living on gunsmoke that she knew how she felt about him and what kind of person she saw him to be. It was also a huge moment for her character wise with the way she faced her fears in the name of human connection and made the active choice to not be as apathetic and closed off as she realized she had been in the early manga.
I think Milly’s first impression of Vash was strong and accurate enough to not change much, this nice guy is Vash the Stampede and there is definitely something weird about him.
I don’t know why Wolfwood doesn’t know what Meryl’s hair looks like, what’s wrong with that guy? In general his version of Meryl is very inaccurate now that I’m looking at it, I promise he likes her
+small details that are my personal headcanon and not the characters interpretations are Meryl and Wolfwoods hair being a bit more curly/textured than canon, Milly’s eyes being green, and Meryl’s earrings being silver (gold earrings with a white black and blue outfit and silver guns?? C’mon girl accessorize properly)
#this is Trimax specific#end of Trimax ig but I haven’t actually thought out how I’d draw them all post Trimax#so the references in the corner are just generic#also wolfwood survived ig#Meryl is so short and I don’t think the boys are looking too hard at what she’s wearing#so her clothes are just Made up#but everyone else’s are specific to canon details I added#also my prev acknowledged headcanon that milly is growing out a blonde phase is evident here#rill'sart#rill’sart#trigun#meryl stryfe#milly thompson#trigun maximum#vash the stampede#nicholas d. wolfwood#polygun#vashwood#millymeryl#stryfewood#Merylwood#milly vash#Vashmilly#mashwood#trimax

series masterlist | last part — next part
pairing: modern!college!steve harrington x fem!reader, bestfriend!eddie munson x fem!reader
word count: 4k words
warnings: explicit language, some angst
summary: somehow it’s waking up at steve’s place that ends up being the most normal part of your day
CHAPTER EIGHT | ❝𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏❞
Spring Semester 2016
“Woah, you’re actually alive, Munson?” You were mostly joking with your words, but you tried to keep your voice as serious as possible. After days of missed calls and sporadic texts, you needed to push his buttons a bit.
It shouldn’t have been surprising to see your best friend standing at your door, but it was. The last time you’d seen him was three days ago— which, in general terms, wasn't a long time at all, but for you and Eddie it was. You tried your hardest to not take it too personally, though, because it was just the age-old phenomenon of a friend getting into a relationship. You’d been through one too many situations like that with friends back in high school.
“I’m sorry,” Eddie told you, and you could tell that he genuinely meant it, which made you feel a little bad.
“It’s okay. I’m kidding. I know you’re happily in the honeymoon phase right now,” You said and gave him a small smile that actually didn’t feel too forced.
Every romantic feeling you had for him was stuffed into a metaphorical box that you then buried deep down inside of you, and at this point, you never planned on opening it. You forced yourself to not think about how you felt about him, which made it easier to solely be happy for him.
“I’m still sorry,” Eddie said as he walked into your room, which was actually empty for once. Your roommate had half-mentioned to you earlier that she was going to be gone for the weekend. “I’ve missed you these past few days.”
“I’ve missed you too,” You said, closing the door behind him and then proceeding to ask the question that you didn’t want to ask, but you knew that you needed to. “Where’s Chrissy?”
“Some study group thing right now, and then she has cheerleading stuff for the rest of the night,” He answered and then shifted the subject. “It’s felt weird not seeing you these last few days.”
Aside from the fact that you’d been trying to make sense of the new dynamic between you and him and trying to be completely okay with things being different now, you did simply just miss your friend.
He sat at the foot of your bed and you walked over to him. You two probably should’ve caught each other up on the last few days, but it felt like there was no need for the small talk.
“What was that one movie that you mentioned before and you said that we should watch it?” Eddie asked as he started taking off his shoes. “I think you said Lindsay Lohan’s in it?”
You smiled at the abruptness of the question. “Freaky Friday?”
“Yes, that. We should watch it.”
“It still doesn’t make sense to me how you haven't seen that already.”
“Tonight’s the night.”
“Okay, I’ll never say no to watching Freaky Friday,” You said, heading over to your desk to grab your laptop, and then you joined him on your bed and pulled up the movie. “I think you’re gonna love Lindsay Lohan’s character.”
You two spent most of the night watching the movie, which he ended up liking a lot, and then he proceeded to show you a band that reminded him a lot of the music they used in the movie. And it was in moments like these, where you and he hung out and talked and did the things that had cemented your friendship in the first place, that nothing felt different.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
Spring Semester 2018
It was the sun that woke you up. The bright light beaming through Steve’s curtainless living room windows that made you softly groan and want to pull a blanket over your head, but you didn’t have a blanket over you anyway.
It was then that your mind reminded you of where you were and what happened last night.
You rubbed your eyes as you sat up, unsure of when exactly you had shifted to lying down on Steve’s wood floor and placing your head in his lap, using it as a makeshift pillow throughout most of the night.
You thought about the conversation that you two had last night and how nice it had been. It made waking up in his apartment feel a thousand times less awkward than how it would’ve felt if you and he were still in that weird place where moments alone together didn’t feel entirely easy and comfortable. Now you felt perfectly fine.
You stood up slowly in an attempt to not wake Steve since he was still asleep, leaning back against the couch with his eyes closed and lips slightly parted.
Mindlessly, you flicked on the bathroom light when you walked in, forgetting that the power had been out. But, when it actually turned on, you remembered, and you wondered when exactly it had come back.
Your eyes traveled to your reflection in the bathroom mirror, and the fact that you were in Steve’s clothes shouldn’t have surprised you at all, because you vividly remembered putting them on, but it did. You hadn’t actually seen what you looked like last night, so it was slightly startling seeing yourself wearing the gray t-shirt that you now could see said “Hawkins High School Class of 2015” in dark green lettering and the black basketball shorts that you had tied tightly at your hips.
You knew that you probably should’ve changed then, your original clothes from the night before were in a heap on the bathroom floor, but you didn’t really want to just yet. You were comfortable and too tired to make the effort to put back on your jeans or even slip your sweater over your head. Therefore, you simply used the bathroom instead of changing out of his clothes.
As you washed your hands, you noticed the packaged toothbrush that sat on the counter. You smiled at the gesture because you knew that Steve put it out for you, and you had no idea when he did that.
You brushed your teeth and it wasn’t until you were leaving the bathroom, that you thought about what time it was. You were lucky and didn’t have any classes on Mondays, but you remembered at some point during the conversation last night that Steve mentioned having only one class at twelve. And then as if on cue, your phone started ringing on the coffee table, an incessant alarm sound that abruptly filled the quietness that hung in the air— you’d forgotten that you’d even set an alarm yesterday.
You rushed over to your phone to turn it off and hopefully not wake Steve, but he was up by the time you managed to stop it.
“You set an alarm?” He asked, voice groggy with sleep as he looked up at you.
“Yeah, I completely forgot I set one for nine,” You told him. “I did it early yesterday to remind myself to submit this assignment for one of my classes. Now I can’t even do it since I’m here, but it’s fine because it’s not due until midnight anyway. I’m just always so forgetful when it comes to this one Lit class.” You stopped rambling and slipped your phone into the pocket of the basketball shorts. “Sorry for waking you up.”
“It’s okay,” Steve said, rubbing his eyes for a second. “How long have you been up?”
“Ten minutes, probably.”
“Did you have another falling nightmare?”
“Thankfully, no,” You shook your head. “It was the sun that woke me up.”
“Yeah, sorry, I keep thinking about getting curtains in here.”
“That would be a solid idea. If I wasn’t a fake girlfriend, I would’ve probably gotten you some by now. And maybe some throw pillows too. Your couch looks so lonely and sad,” You joked.
Steve gave you an amused look as he stood up. “I don’t think couches can look lonely and sad.”
“They definitely can.”
He was about to respond to your joking words, but then your phone started to ring in your pocket, interrupting whatever he was about to say. You pulled it out, seeing Eddie’s name on the screen.
You brought your phone to your ear as you turned and walked over to the window, the current weather outside made it look as if nothing had even happened last night. “Hey, Eds.”
When you turned around, looking away from the clear sky and bright sun, you noticed Steve heading to the bathroom.
“Hey, want to grab some breakfast?” Eddie asked. His schedule was ingrained in your brain as much as your own was, so you knew that his Mondays were free too. “I can be at your place in ten.”
“Oh, um, I’m actually at Steve’s right now,” You said. “Because of the storm and power outage last night and stuff.”
“Oh…” He responded, and it was hard to read what that simple word meant, if anything. “You can ask him to come too?”
You were quiet for a moment. “Um, okay, yeah. Hold on a sec. I’ll ask him.”
You put the call on mute as you walked over to the bathroom and gave the door a quick knock. “Hey, me and Eddie are gonna get some food. You wanna come too? I know you said that you have a class at twelve, but I figured I’d still ask.”
You heard the sink turn off and then there was a brief pause before Steve was asking, “You want me to come?”
Another pause lingered as you considered that question. “Honestly, I’m not really in the mood to throw on the fake dating charm right now.”
The sink turned back on. “Yeah, same here.”
“Okay.” You walked away from the door then and went back to the living room, settling on the couch and unmuting the call with Eddie as you did so. “He can’t come, but I’ll still go. I’ll text you the address of his apartment.”
“Okay, see you soon.”
You were in the middle of texting Eddie when Steve emerged from the bathroom. He sat down next to you on the couch and you set your phone on the coffee table and then looked at him.
“Thanks for putting out the toothbrush for me, by the way.”
“No problem,” He responded with a shrug like it wasn’t a big deal; which maybe it wasn’t, but in your eyes it was still a nice and thoughtful thing to do. “Eddie’s on his way?”
You only nodded in response at first. “Yeah, so I should probably go change. Also, thank you for letting me borrow clothes. You’re a very great fake boyfriend.”
“Thank you. And if you got me some curtains, I’d consider you a very great fake girlfriend.”
You let out a laugh as you got up and started heading to the bathroom again. “That’s not gonna happen because I won’t be able to reap the benefits of them in a month.”
“I guess that’s fair,” Steve responded, and then before you closed the bathroom door behind you so that you could change he was saying, “You should keep the shirt on.”
“Okay,” You said, not thinking too much about the random suggestion even though you probably should’ve asked why he thought that was a good idea. You were still pretty comfortable in his shirt anyway, so in the moment you weren’t really fazed.
You slipped out of the basketball shorts and put on your jeans, and then stuffed your sweater and dress from last night back in the bag that you brought it in, which sat by the front door.
The text from Eddie came twenty minutes later when you were in the middle of helping Steve clean up the cards scattered across the table. It was quiet right then, but you didn’t hate it, which pretty much said everything without actually saying anything.
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。. .・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。
It wasn’t until you were getting into Eddie’s van that you finally understood why Steve told you to keep on his shirt.
Eddie noticed it immediately and you could tell that he wanted to say something, maybe question you about it, but the slightly surprised look he gave you said enough. The shirt quite literally meant nothing, but it was an easy way to play up your “relationship” with Steve without even having to say anything. It was a great idea and you wished that you had thought of it, but you were glad that Steve did.
“We should go to Frankie’s,” You said since Eddie was still quiet and simply looking at your, Steve’s, shirt. “Their pancakes would be great right now.”
Eddie’s gaze met yours then and he nodded. “Yeah, sounds good.”
That diner became somewhat of a staple of yours when you and him randomly stumbled upon it Freshman year. The only thing that was good was the breakfast— everything else absolutely sucked aside from the milkshakes, but even that was only sometimes. And it was rarely ever busy so you usually always ended up in the same booth.
“I can’t remember the last time it was just you and me here,” Eddie said as he took a sip of his orange juice.
Going to Frankie’s had become a group occasion at this point. The second you met Robin in the Fall of your sophomore year and quickly became friends, it grew from just being your and Eddie’s thing. And then you met Vickie, and then you met Talia, and the rest was history. If one person suggested going, everyone else was probably going to immediately want to join too. The last time you were here was three weeks ago with Robin and Vickie, getting waffles in the middle of the night because none of you could sleep.
But still, you remembered exactly the last time it had been just you and Eddie. However, you didn’t really want to bring that moment up right then, so you attempted to work around it.
“Um, yeah, it was last year toward the end of the semester,” You said and then promptly tried to change the subject. “Anyway, I’m thinking about maybe doing the waffle. When Robin, Vickie, and I were here last it was really good. But, it might’ve also just tasted that way because we were very sleep-deprived.”
Your subject change attempt was absolutely for nothing, though, because Eddie’s thoughts were stuck on the first part of what you said, and then he was realizing by himself. “Oh! Shit, I still can’t believe that I told you about the breakup here of all places.”
You remembered that morning probably way too vividly. He told you with the saddest look on his face and once you actually processed his words— “Me and Chrissy broke up”— you felt sad for him but also the tiniest bit relieved, and you immediately felt like shit for feeling that way because you could tell how upset he was about it.
“But, it’s kind of funny now, I think,” He continued before you could respond with anything.
Hearing him say that confused you and your eyebrows furrowed. “Funny?”
“Yeah, because none of that matters now, so it’s kinda funny thinking back to how fucked up I was about it then,” He said, words sounding completely genuine, and it was honestly pretty admiring seeing how he could look back on a shitty moment and see it in the entirely opposite way. When you looked back on past bad moments in your life, you either felt embarrassed by them or simply the same amount of shittyness. “Also, it’s kind of funny how that moment birthed one of your best ideas just because you were trying to cheer me up.”
You smiled at that. “Thank you for calling my summer road trip idea one of my best.” It had been an impulsively suggested idea that you weren’t entirely even serious about, but it was pulled together in just a week— you tried to remember if going to different national parks had been your suggestion or Eddie’s. But, either way, those five weeks spent driving around marked the best summer you’d ever had. “That whole thing still sounds like the plot of an early 2000s teen movie to me, so that’s probably why I thought of it.”
Eddie nodded. “I’ll take your word for it.”
“You should be very well-versed in those kinds of movies by now. I’ve made you watch the most important ones.”
“We’ve established that important doesn’t necessarily mean good, right?”
“Oh no, please don’t do this right now. I can’t bear to hear you slander She’s the Man again,” You said with a roll of your eyes.
Eddie simply laughed as he held up his hands in mock surrender. “Fine, fine. But, I’m just saying there were some questionable things in th—”
“Shh, I will kick you under the table if I have to,” You interrupted him before he could finish.
It was then that the waitress came over to take your orders, perfectly putting a halt on the current conversation. Eddie got the pancakes, and after a few brief moments of hesitation, you decided on the same.
“Let’s go back to talking about the road trip,” You said before taking a quick sip of your coffee. “And what a great time that was.”
Eddie nodded, smiling at you. “I think that trip proved that we’re great at camping and weirdly good at kayaking, but we suck at hiking and you’re a bad driver.”
“Everything you said, except the driving comment, is very true,” You told him. “But, actually, I don’t know if we can really say that we’re great at camping since we were mainly just sleeping in your van for a lot of the trip.”
“Yeah, but that’s close enough to camping because we were parked at campgrounds.”
You laughed at that. “Very true. We technically did camp.”
You thought about those nights when you two talked about nothing and everything in the back of his van. And then your mind traveled to a different night in a shitty motel room toward the end of the trip, more talks of anything and everything, and stupid old feelings reminding you that they were in fact still there. Which had only annoyed you because you knew that there was no way that that trip was your time to admit anything to Eddie since he was in the middle of mourning a yearlong relationship.
“That entire trip helped a lot,” He told you in this moment and you nodded.
“I’m glad I could be there,” You said, and you meant that completely. It did bring up stuff that you had initially hoped was dead and gone, but you were still happy that the trip itself had happened.
“I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else there.”
You smiled at that. “I feel very honored. And I promise I won’t tell Robin that.”
You expected him to smile back at you and laugh a bit at your joke. But, instead, his eyes randomly traveled to your shirt again before he looked back up and met your gaze. There was a certain look on his face that you couldn’t decipher, which felt so foreign to you because you were usually always able to read him. For the briefest moment, he looked like he was about to say something, lips slightly parting for a second, but then he was looking away from you and focusing back on his drink.
That had never happened before. You were certain of it because it felt way too significant and you knew that you would’ve remembered it. You also would’ve remembered your reaction to what just happened too— the sudden stop your heart did, like it was stalling just for a moment, and then it abruptly sped up; you could feel it pound in your ears. You’d never experienced that before.
It felt as if something was changing, but you couldn’t tell what, and a part of you didn’t even want to try and read this moment. You were scared to once again jump to conclusions and read between what always ended up being nonexistent lines because you really didn’t want to be wrong like you’d been before.
“You okay?” You asked him, even though you didn’t necessarily feel that way yourself.
“‘M good,” Eddie answered, nodding. “Just thinking.”
“About?”
He shrugged then. “Random stuff. Doesn’t matter.”
You wanted to push him further, but you didn’t, and you weren’t really sure why you didn’t. Because later, once you were in your room doing a final proofread of your assignment that was due before you submitted it, you thought back to that conversation with Eddie and the abrupt note it ended on before you shifted it and told him about the project you were helping Robin with for one of her Women’s Studies classes, some survey thing.
And you suddenly wished that you had asked Eddie about the “random stuff” that had been on his mind because now you couldn’t concentrate on this assignment and you just kept rereading the same sentence and for some reason, you now really wanted to know what he'd been thinking about.
You sighed and closed your eyes for a second, taking a quick breath before silently telling yourself to focus solely on reading the essay in front of you.
You were halfway through it when your phone pinged from where it sat next to you on your desk. A text from Steve.
Steve: I hope you remembered to submit your assignment
You smiled at the message, not even the slightest bit annoyed that it interrupted where you’d been reading.
You: Doing it now, actually
You: But thanks for the reminder. Great fake boyfriend!
Steve: Thanks. Wish I could say the same for you, but I’m still waiting on curtains…
You: Once again, never gonna happen
You stared at your text for a few moments. There wasn’t really anything else to say, but you suddenly wanted to say more. Surprisingly, you wanted to talk to him about the Eddie thing, but what would you even say about it?
There was a moment that wasn’t really a moment? Maybe he was about to say that he had feelings for you, or maybe you were being an idiot and looking way too deeply into absolutely nothing?
All of that felt so stupid, and you actually really didn’t want to spiral about it.
Right then, you decided that you actually just wanted to forget about the entire thing instead of talking about it. You were pressing the call button on Steve’s contact name before you could let yourself think about it too much.
He answered on the second ring. “Hey.”
“Hi, so earlier you asked if I had my falling nightmare last night, and I’m just now realizing that I didn’t ask if you had your driving dream. Did you?”
Steve could’ve easily asked why that was suddenly on your mind, and it would’ve been a valid question. But instead, he just answered you. “I was on a boat this time. Just floating around. It was very chill.”
You let out a laugh. “Wow, you’re so normal.”
“Do you remember what yours was last night?”
“Nope, which probably means that it was also very normal,” You answered. “The day that I actually remember a normal mundane dream that I have, I’ll make sure to tell you immediately.”
“Thanks, I’m looking forward to that,” He said, and you were somehow able to hear the amused smile in his voice. “Oh, and I also had another dream too. It was where you finally submitted that assignment for your class.”
You could clearly hear the sarcasm in his tone, which made you laugh. “I am, I am. I just really needed to ask that dream question.”
“Makes sense. Maybe the more I tell you about my normal dreams, the better chances you have of actually having one too.”
“Exactly. You get it.”
“I’m hanging up now. Please go submit that assignment,” Steve told you. “Or if you don’t, at least, don’t blame me for your failing grade.”
You smiled at that. “I promise that all blame will go to myself if I fail.”
“Good to know,” He said and you could practically hear him nodding. “In that case, let’s talk for another hour.”
“Ha ha, fuck you,” You said, still very much smiling, though. “Bye.”
“Bye.”
You finally finished reading your essay and then submitted it. Moments after you closed your laptop and stood up from your desk, you were getting in bed and easily falling asleep without thinking about the Eddie thing, and what any of it did or didn’t mean.

Safest with You (The Epilogue)
3.2K / Modern AU Retired Mob Enforcer!Din Djarin x fem!reader
Summary: You and Din welcome a new member to your family.
Warnings: All fluff - just the way we started this series! Established relationship, nicknames as usual (Pretty bird, baby).
A/N: A cute little glimpse into the lives of our happy couple around two years after the series finale. 112 Carlota Galgos is a real Galgo rescue in Spain! I won't go into the circumstances that make the rescue work they do so important, but many of you know that I have a greyhound, and the plight of the Galgo is well known in the sighthound community. These dogs deserve the world!! If you have an opportunity to check out organizations that aid Spanish Galgos or even help - I promise these gentle giants deserve it. Lisette is a real galgo I knew! She passed last year and this epilogue is dedicated to her (cute pics included at the end!)
I’m posting this on the one year anniversary of Chapter 1!! I can’t believe it’s been a whole year of writing these bbs 🥹 Thank you thank you everyone who has supported and followed along with this series - you are all as dear to me as Pretty Bird's garlic knots are to Mayfeld 🥹🥰 (I still plan on publishing that recipe!)
Dividers by @saradika-graphics as always! 🥰 / Series Masterlist
Just before your finger is about to press down the call button on the outside of the closed metal gate, you retract your hand and look questioningly at Din.
“How many am I allowed to get again?”
Din stares at you for a second to ascertain if you’re kidding and when he sees you’re not, a little panic sets in on his face, “One, pretty bird. Just one.”
“But…”
“We only made arrangements with the airline for one, baby.”
You pout a little, but know Din’s right, “Okay. Fine. One.”
Somewhat dejectedly you press the button, though the chorus of barks and yelps from the other side of the gate resulting from the chime of the bell perk you up immediately, and by the time the gate is buzzed open with a loud brrrrzzzt, you’re giddy with excitement again.
This is the last planned destination of the European trip you and Din have been on for the last three weeks, both of you looking forward to flying home in just a few days.
The vacation has been an absolute dream. You and Din have eaten your way through Amsterdam (Stroopwafels! Bitterballen!), then Paris (Steak frites! Macarons! Croissants! One, sometimes two baguettes a day!), followed by Rome (Gelato! Pasta until you exploded!), and then finally Barcelona (Paella! Bombas!) before ending up where you are now: Andalucia, Spain, outside the gates of the 112 Carlota Galgos dog rescue.
The happy and excited woofs from the still unseen pups remind you so much of Alfredo. Gosh, you miss your best guy so much – although, if the daily photos and videos you’ve been receiving are to be believed, he might be hard pressed to leave Paz’s when you get back. By now a minor celebrity in Din and Paz’s neighbourhood, you’re happy to see that Al’s been making the rounds at the local shops (and accepting generous samples everywhere he goes), enjoying fun road trips to nearby hiking trails, and most importantly, helping Paz cement his image as an attractive, eligible bachelor about town. You’re sure if you were to peek at Paz’s dating app profile, you’d see it updated with copious pictures of him fawning over your dog.
Originally, you had been hesitant to have Paz take Al to his place for three whole weeks, wondering if it was better if instead, Paz could come and dog-sit at your and Din’s place – but Al does seem to be adjusting to being away from home just fine. Though Alfredo is generally super easy going and adaptable, you nevertheless recognized that it had been quite a year of transition and multiple upheavals for your pup and worried about how he might cope with yet another change in scenery.
Nearly a year ago, you and Din moved in together and Al had been uprooted from the only home he’s ever known. Though it wasn’t without some understandable disinclination that you left your beautiful and much-loved apartment, both of you agreed it made perfect sense for you to move into Din’s place above Mando’s. Of course you loved your old place – you had poured so much of your heart and soul into making it your refuge and the perfect home for you and Al, but you couldn’t find it within yourself to regret leaving – Din is your home now, as you are his. The only safe haven you need is the one with him, and though you’re sure he would have moved without hesitation if you had asked, the idea of Din leaving a residence right above his place of work, in a building he already owned, was too silly to even entertain.
To try and make the adjustment as smooth as possible for his pretty bird, Din had given you free reign to redecorate, bring in your furniture, and make whatever changes you wanted in order to make his, now your, apartment feel more like home. The third floor of Mando’s would always hold his most cherished memories of his childhood and father – he didn’t need it to look a certain way or have it maintained as some kind of physical shrine in order for that to be true; Din was ready to make a home and new memories with you. It was sweet and you appreciated the gesture prodigiously, but aside from adding your own bookshelves and swapping out a couch, the only thing you had asked for was a bigger kitchen. Din had readily agreed and even suggested he build you an expanded closet and turn the second bedroom into a home office-dog den for you and Al. Din’s enthusiasm and eagerness for the project was enough to have you agreeing to his considerate suggestions.
What had followed was seven months of renovation chaos, living out of and tripping over boxes as a slew of tradespeople and workmen paraded in and out of what was supposed to be your new sanctuary.
You love Din with all your heart, and one of the things you love most and find endlessly attractive is just how good he is at the things he does: taking care of you and Al, supporting the community, running Mando’s – to say nothing of the skill and prowess he displays in his work in and out of the ring; just the sight of Din running drills with his boxers or deftly commanding the Mandos gets you weak in the knees.
But elaborate home improvements and remodelling? Unfortunately, not part of Din’s impressive skill set. Nor any of the Mandos for that matter. For two weeks, every Mando on payroll seemed to be over at your place “helping” with measurements and the demolition of the kitchen and the wall between the two bedrooms. Only after a burst pipe and the subsequent three weeks of living with drying fans running 24/7, did Din concede it was time to call in professionals. Then came a parade of contractors and their respective plumbers, cabinet guys, drywall, tile and marble contacts, electricians, etc. – who all seemed to owe some kind of “favour” to Boba. The good thing about that was they were committed to doing a good job; the bad thing was that no one was particularly dedicated to doing a fast job. For the next five months, you, Din and Al lived in a construction zone of various partially started and finished projects with different strangers coming in and out of your place at all hours of the day – it had stressed Al out endlessly.
A little over half a year after moving in with Din, you hit a breaking point and, with Din’s encouragement, packed a suitcase and took Al to stay at Bea’s until a firm completion deadline could be negotiated with the various contractors. Din had insisted on staying behind to lead the "negotiations" and "supervise" the follow through; lo and behold, everything had been completed to perfection and cleaned up thoroughly two weeks after. Upon seeing the beautiful finished space, you finally felt at home – though frustrated, you hadn’t ever been terribly mad about the whole situation, but it had been a very confusing time for your pup.
Din had felt awful – this wasn’t the symbolic big step and storybook start to your lives together that he had envisioned. You either, if you were being honest, but it genuinely mattered very little in the grand scheme of things; you reminded Din, as the two of you christened every surface of your brand new kitchen, that your lives together had really started a year before moving in together, when he had taken his own big step and shown up outside of your office, making you the promise to be open and honest about everything.
And he had. Din had forgiven himself and won you back, and these last two years have been the happiest of your lives, even with the renovations.
In that time a lot’s happened. Jimmy won another two division championships and moved up a weight class. Cass announced that her and Rikard were expecting. Rory’s bridal boutique expanded to a second even more successful location and to her chagrin, she was promoted to manager. The second book in Bea’s series came out to amazing reviews and the anticipation and hype for the third (due out later this year) was through the roof. Poe decided to pursue and then successfully obtained his pilot license. You went up in his Cessna just once – the views had been unforgettable, Lisa getting sick in your lap no lesser so. Katie guest starred on Law and Order – twice (two different characters). You met the Mods. And Al finally settled into his new home, overseeing his new kingdom from the plush and cozy dog den that his dad lovingly built for him.
And now you and Din are about to take another big step together.
Greeted enthusiastically by one of the women who runs the Spanish hunting dog haven with whom you’ve been conversing with over the past few months about adoption, you and Din take a tour of the facility before being led out back to meet the dogs.
Per Elenna’s guidance, you sit in a chair near the water bowls and let the galgos come to you on their own terms. Some, understandably, are shy and timid, wary of strangers – tentatively, they come and investigate you with their snoots, eventually accepting your gentle pats and scritches once they feel comfortable enough. Others have no such hesitation - tails wagging, curious and excited, they enthusiastically crowd you, nosing in for pets and try to sniff out the treats you have in your pocket. Your chest expands, heart nearly tripling in size to see these dogs get to be dogs again, as you rub their little faces and coo endless words of deserved praise at them for their bravery.
Maybe the plane will have room for another crate, you think, or two? You can’t stop giggling as your face is licked and poked with wet noses, or when those same noses goose your tummy and legs, competing for the attention of your busy hands – you’re in heaven, nearly overwhelmed by all this furry cuteness. Surely Din cannot possibly expect you to limit yourself to one! Knowing the marshmallow squish that resides beneath his hard and steely frame, you’re willing to bet that Din has already softened his stance on taking home multiple pups. You crane your neck to see over the dogs, looking around the property to see if you can locate your boyfriend.
To your surprise, you find him not being surrounded by enthusiastic, bounding galgos, but alone - crouching near the ground and gently scratching a smaller fawn coloured dog who’s laying on her side, her slender head lifted just slightly off the ground to lean into Din’s hand.
“That’s Lisette,” Elenna says when she notices you looking at Din and the fawn girl, “she’s just come to us after this last hunting season - we found her in the street with a broken leg. She’s all healed up now but is still quite skittish, especially around men. This is actually the first time I’ve ever seen her let a man touch her, never mind a stranger. Your husband must have a very calming touch.”
“Oh, he’s not my husb-” your voice trails off as you watch Lisette continue to happily receive Din’s attention. Walking over, you hear him speaking quietly to her in Spanish.
“What are you telling her, Din?”
Din looks up, eyes soft and shiny, “Just telling her what a good girl she is. That’s she so brave and sweet. And that she doesn’t have anything to be afraid of anymore. She’s safe now.”
There is no question as to which (one) dog you’ll be adopting today.
Lisette settles in quickly when you and Din get her back home, especially with Al immediately taking up his role as big brother. Lisette falls into the easy comfort of following his lead, regularly looking to Alfredo for guidance – he never leads her astray and the two of them become inseparable. With growing pride, you watch Lisette tentatively explore her new environment and slowly over the next few months, becomes more and more comfortable in her forever home: first your and Din’s apartment, then the gym, whose enthusiastic occupants always greet her like the princess she is, and eventually the entire neighbourhood where she’s never without her protective brother by her side. When she’s ready, you and Din take her and Al out on further away adventures: to your and Din’s favourite farmers’ market, Poe and Lisa’s (where you learn in their pool that Lisette can swim!) or to Boba and Fennec’s where she can run and play with Mochi and the other Daimyo Dogs. Your heart positively kvells as Lisette’s confidence grows and she becomes the happy pup she deserves to be, putting her less than ideal start to life behind her.
The only thing you wish you could change, though you would never push, is that Lisette won’t cuddle with you - she only ever cuddles with Din. You know she loves you, but she’s very much a daddy’s girl and he’s the only one with whom she feels safe enough to have in such close proximity while sleeping or relaxing. You don’t begrudge Lisette at all for feeling this way; Din is her protector, she trusts him to keep her safe - you understand the comfort of that feeling better than anyone.
And in truth, you love watching them together – seeing your sweet girl so at ease and your strong, formidable warrior melt into a puddle of goo when she burrows into the warmth of his lap. Din talks to Lisette in Spanish all the time, repeating what he told her back in Andalucia: she’s safe now, she doesn’t have to be scared anymore - this is her home.
Your home feels complete now – there’s nowhere you would rather be than cuddled up on the couch with Din, each respectively loving on the pups that have curled up against you: you, Al and Din, Lisette.
Then one day, you’re on the couch tapping away on your laptop when Lisette saunters up to you. You rub her little head and give her a little smooch on her snoot as she walks by, fully expecting her to wander away but she surprises you to no end when she hops up on the couch and curls up by your feet. Terribly delighted but not wanting to spook her, you pretend like it’s no big deal – your heart, however, is doing jumping jacks; looking up with a big smile you see Din nodding encouragingly at the both of you.
And then she does it again. And again. At first still staying arms length from you, she inches closer and closer, little by little. Though your chest is exploding and you want to shout with joy, you always remain calm and give Lisette copious amounts of quiet praise after she’s settled. To celebrate this progress, Din will eventually come over to shower Lisette with additional treats and Spanish words of adulation that she happily accepts. Sometimes you even catch him encouraging her before she comes over to you or see her looking back at him for reassurance before she climbs onto the bed or couch to sit with you. Always her protector, her safe space.
It's slow going, but worth it.
Today, you’re on the couch having just finished a book, funnily enough it’s the most recent in the fantasy series that Din had bought you and your friends on that first day you met nearly four years ago, when you see Lisette moseying on over to you. You swing your legs off the couch and pat the spot next to you, and to your delight, she hops up and starts to do her little nesting circles, prepping for her laydown spot. When she finally settles, she lays her little head in your lap and you think your heart might burst. You look up and see Din, handsome and relaxed, leaning against one of the bookshelves looking at the both of you with an adoring expression on his face. You beam back - yep, the two of you are his girls. The ones he takes care of. Looks after. Loves.
Lisette nuzzles her furry little face deeper into your thigh and you can’t help but giggle at the sensation. “Okay, okay,” you chuckle, as if you needed any invitation to pet and love on her. Dispensing gentle scritches all over her head and little ear rubs, you notice that your sweet girl has an extra collar on. Normally Lisette wears just a martingale and sometimes nothing at all when she’s at home, but today, she’s got a thin rope collar encircling her neck as well. Rubbing it between your fingers, you say to Din, “This is pretty! When did she get this house collar?”
“Got it for her a while ago, but thought I’d wait for the right moment to put it on. Do you like it?”
Lisette lifts her head and you take the opportunity to take a closer look at the pretty pink collar; admiring the delicate metalware and the luxurious feeling fibres of the rope, you run your fingers over the collar until you get to the small clasp in the front and feel something you don’t expect. Rotating the collar around Lisette’s slender neck so you can get a better look at the thin object, you gasp when it comes into view.
A diamond ring.
Din, with Al by his side, starts to walk towards you, the look in his eyes clear and so easy to read: Devotion. Adoration. Love.
“Pretty bird…” he starts. Din has an entire speech planned. He needs to thank you for coming into his life and showing him what true strength and power is. Grace, honesty, and compassion have been your gifts to him, and he’s a better man, a stronger man, for your kindness and generosity. He wants to promise you that your faith in him will never be misplace – that he will cherish you and your heart to the very last beat of his own and beyond. He loves you, admires you, trusts you, is in awe of you, and remains forever grateful for you. Grateful for every smile you throw his way, every laugh you pull from him and allow him to draw from you, thankful for all the ways you’ve woven yourself into his life and made it better. And above all, grateful for your acceptance and love for him and all that he is, was, and ever will be. He needs to ask you if you will allow him the honour of spending the remainder of his days showing you his gratitude and loving you the way you deserve.
Din’s heart is overflowing and he has so much he wishes to express; he’s not entirely sure he’s going to be able to make any sense. But Din’s not nervous - the radiant smile on your beautiful face as he approaches already telling him everything he needs to know.
Real life Lisette!! 🥰🥰

SPY × Family: Chapter 93 analysis
this is my first time doing something like this, and I'm no expert so please take my analysis with a grain of salt! all of this is my own theories, so you might disagree with me. please don't be mean, though (also, long post incoming!)
SPOILERS FOR CHAPTER 93 UNDER THE CUT
The chapter opens with the Eden kids getting the results of their marks, with Anya's...
overall rank shooting up, from 213th to 168th. Showing how she's slowly adjusting to the school and its pace of learning, despite being younger than everyone else (and, also, presumably doing extremely advanced things.... I remember seeing the pythagorean theorem on the board once in the anime)
Damian got highest in History (good job, buddy!), and Anya got second-highest in Classical Language (the one exam she genuinely studied hard for). But what I want to focus on is her expression:
Shock. She'd put up that front (that fake-face, if you will) in front of Becky, Damian, Emile and Ewen, pretending to be all cool and suave but when she sees her results, she's genuinely surprised to get good marks in Classical Language. And even her excited reaction. She was scared of disappointing Twilight (and maybe even Sigmund and Barbara) because she'd genuinely worked hard for this exam, tried to understand, and gave it her best attempt.
But, then, it all comes crashing down with her 24 points in math: but a win is a win!
Maybe this is Twilight's turning point in the fact that acquiring knowledge can be interesting, exciting, and not just a tool of survival? Twilight himself doesn't have a great relationship with studying, (see: his father scolding him as a child for not studying, later: his friends dying because he didn't know enough about the campaign they were going on... but Twilight's relationship with knowledge and its pursuit is a whole other post in itself).
Honestly, him realising that Anya is actually thriving in the setup where education is fun for her, opens up two new avenues:
Twilight himself trying to make learning fun for Anya (unlikely, he tried that before... it didn't work.)
Him leaning on Sigmund and Barbara to tutor Anya (this seems more likely- Endo is probably going to cement the Authens as recurring characters, so them being Anya's surrogate grandparents/neighbors/tutors would seem like a great way to do so!
And then...
My main focus is on the fact that he mumbles this (also his face. But that's irrelevant). Twilight may claim, "I don't understand children", but he's an extremely perceptive man. As much as I love to clown on him, he's highly skilled at picking up on cues of people's feelings. The few times he's failed are mostly due to Anya's shenanigans trying to hide her telepathy, mixed with his usual flavour of overthinking.
But the couple of things he knows about Anya are this:
She was probably raised in an environment where Classical Language was used.
She's not fond of talking about or remembering her past.
Which is why he didn't have the heart to fully sound out the question. In the case of Anya, this is an extremely delicate matter, and he doesn't want to upset her (or, in his words, "ruin Operation Strix.") The way he asked the question and it's portrayed made it feel like he'd been pondering on it for quite a while (which he has; since the beginning of the Cruise Arc), but more so usually. Most likely due to her high marks in the Classical Language tests (aka a dead language), and the fact that she got excellent marks in it, despite formally studying it for less than a year (at least, as far as he (and we) know.) He's been thinking of the possibility, and also thinking of a way to ask her. In the end, when he does ask her—
she lies.
and he lets her. (at least, that's my interpretation)
Obviously, he knows she's not ready to speak about it yet (though we know it's probably connected to her telepathy, so she's not ready to divulge that info).
Look, as much as I love talking about how clueless he is with his own feelings, in this scene, he was just... perceptive? I don't know if that's the right word. But he was trying to keep Anya happy, and bringing up this complex topic without ensuring proper care for her wouldn't be fair to her. And he knows that. So, he leaves it at, "Just forget about it, okay?"
This entire scene felt so... tense, and in itself felt like a fucking gut punch, so I don't know how I'll react to the reveal.)
And now, onto the main focus of the chapter:
him.
If I'm being honest, I thought Demetrius was, like, 16-19 (judging by his voice in the anime), and not... fucking twelve.
Honestly, that just makes his character all the more tragic: he's barely a teenager, and yet... he's going through this. From his awards ceremony, we can see that he got, what, 6 stellas? In addition to the eight he's gotten to be an Imperial Scholar, and if he performs this well in every exam... bro is literally hoarding the Stella supply of the school (sorry, bad joke).
But...
this panel comes up. It's definitely not Anya's telepathy malfunctioning, (heck, it works on Bond and even penguins). Honestly, I think, again, it could be one of two things:
He was experimented on, like Anya
He was trained, (most likely by Donovan), to keep his mind blank.
We're told that he and Donovan had an extremely close relationship:
This could be in support of both the theories: it could be Donovan checking up on his "experiment's" progress (a crude term to refer to him), or, it could have been him subconsciously training Demetrius to hide his thoughts, keep them safe. Anya's project is connected to Desmond's administration, and at the time she was "made", Demetrius would have been around 7 or 8. Old enough for him to figure out what he wanted to have been in life (ofc, that's different for everyone! It takes time, and 8 is an extremely young age to figure out what one wants to do). But, like, how Damian wants to be a politician, it's most likely that Demetrius, the prodigal, studious, first child, would have to follow the path of politics laid before him.
So it could have been Donovan teaching Demetrius to protect his sensitive thoughts from the "weapons" he himself was making: the test subject(s) of Anya's project (again, a crude term to refer to them). Donovan was putting a lot of faith into creating telepaths (most likely for covert work), and them having unwavering loyalty to his administration was not very likely.
And, even if Anya's project was the work of another administration or even country, there's no doubt that Donovan would want to keep his thoughts hidden from these kinds of spies: ones than can see into your very mind, especially if the world is at war: a physical battle or a war for information.
The first theory of Demetrius himself being a test subject is probably Not What Happened; so I think it's probably just Demetrius being trained to keep his thoughts hidden.
But then, we get some of his thoughts:
Which is a lot reminiscent of:
So, it's probable that Demetrius imbibed this from his dad.
It's honestly a bit scary to see how Donovan's "parenting" has affected him: for him, age 12, to be like this.
After this, the chapter ends lightheartedly: Anya trying to emulate Demetrius, and Loid Being Tired™️.
I'm mostly curious about Demetrius: I was so excited when he was finally revealed! But I hope we get to see more of his thoughts, soon. Especially more about his relationship with Damian. But, this chapter was fantastic!
(This was super fun to do- if i do posts like this for chapters as they come out, would you all like it? Again, I'm not an expert in psychology (or even analysis). It's just me and my silly lil thoughts. I hope you liked it!)

I present... the character relationship chart from the second official fanbook! Thanks again to the Kyuushi Discord server for the scans, Aroshi for help with cleaning, Shells for proofreading, and Crimson for Mebi's "fry" 😆❗
Like last time, there are some notes under the cut!
↓
Mippiki: As a reminder, this word is a combination of "three people + one small animal (armadillo)" and refers to Rona, Draluc, John, and Hinaichi.
Little-big Bro: Himari calls Rona "chii-nii" (小兄) to differentiate between him and their eldest brother, Hiyoshi. Ironic considering their heights…
God of Popularity Polls: In case you're wondering who that random old man is with arrows to Rona and Draluc, that's him, the God of Popularity Polls. Ura-Shinyoko stole his seiyuu in the anime…
Bio-employees: Autumn is capable of just growing living entities like Rokumon and Chinoike in their lab. Very normal publishing company.
Cement: Chinoike's gimmick is that he only speaks in wrestling terms. I don't know anything about wrestling myself but Google tells me that a "cement style" wrestling match is a serious match where both parties do their best to genuinely win, as compared to an exhibition type match which is more staged/for fun?
Niga, Sanga: Kuwabara and Sanzu are a ninja and kunoichi respectively. Their village names are parodies of the famed Iga ninja. Ni means 2, san means 3.
Useful mobs: Mob = background character. Bonnoki and the fandom's beloved bg boys Miki Kanae and Yoshida Terukazu-san❗❗ There's lore behind these 2 but I won't get into all that here, I just want to mention that Yoshida-san is based off a real person's art. Hopefully we'll get to see the 3rd useful mob in a relationship chart someday!
Piyo-chan: Ventrue accidentally made himself appear as this cute bird avatar on a Noom (Zoom parody) call with the other old bloods. They'll never let him live it down.
Black Silhouette: This is the three brothers' mother, Gabriella! Her face was hidden for quite some time before she finally made a fully drawn appearance in chapter 297.
As always please do take my translations with a grain of salt; I'm just a fan translator and while I did have someone help me with proofreading, the possibility of mistakes remains. If you have any questions or comments feel free to reach out to me here on tumblr or on Discord, @ ash in the Kyuushi server.

Hi! I love how you capture Gojo's character in your series. I was wondering if you could write a scenario where the high and mighty Gojo Satoru felt insecure and undeserving of reader at any point in their relationship through the Kaleidoscope Series? I wanna see Toru be sad and then comforted mehehe. Hope this ask finds you well!
Kaleidoscope Series—Clouds and Mochi Chapters { Lose }
—Gojo Satoru X Wife Reader
𑁍 Synopsis: Y/n left for a few days and Satoru has to handle the kids.
𑁍 Genre: family theme, fluff, angst to comfort
𑁍 CW/TW: (2.8k)— arguments, insecurities, regrets, Satoru doing his job (overboard manner), not proofread
𑁍 Grey ✒️☕: Hi sweetheart thank you for the wonderful ask, I hope I managed to make it well this time
Being married to Gojo Satoru has meant that you will have more work than you anticipated. Contrary to the eyes of the mass that Gojo Satoru's existence is the entire Gojo Clan itself there's so much that runs behind what people see.
In the absence of Gojo Satoru, his wife, The Madame of the Gojo Clan, Gojo Y/n controls everything.
"I have to leave for a business trip in Kyushu 'Toru. Can you handle the kids for three days?"
You asked after tucking Saika into bed.
Satoru shot up from the bed, removed his glasses, and look at you with a confused face.
"What do you mean? You're pregnant Honey. It's not safe for you or our babies to travel long distances." Satoru walked over to you and held your hands to his lips, pressing kisses to your knuckles. "I cannot let you go with your delicate situation Baby."
"I'm okay Satoru, besides I consulted my ob-gyne and she said it's alright." You chuckled at the sudden protectiveness, not that Satoru isn't normally protective of you already.
Satoru ran his hand over his hair. Good grace. He's not letting you outside of this house or even letting you get in that piece of flying metal, that who knows might fall just because life is a bitch.
"No. You're not going anywhere, Honey." Satoru was sentenced with finality. The frown on your brows slowly curled and retrieved your hand from his lips.
His heart fell at your withdrawal as you looked at him and sighed.
"Love, this is my job. Alright? This is my duty as your wife, my duty to the Gojo Clan because I'm the Madame. I won't go if I think I'm unfit to." You tried to be understanding yet firm as you explain this logic to him.
Years of marriage certainly taught you better than to enter an argument head straight. Instead, you calmly laid out your facts.
"No means no. Honey, you can ditch all your work if you want to. You're with our child. To be exact you don't even have to work with your state." Satoru put his hands on his waist, assuming an authoritative stance.
The room dropped several degrees as Y/n raise her brows and narrowed her eyes at the imposing tone of his words.
"I understand you're concerned—"
"Oh, believe me, Honey, I'm beyond concerned I'm fervid." Satoru cut you off with a frown.
"But you're not changing my decision Satoru." The softness of the way you call his name was gone. It was cemented with stubbornness. "I'm pregnant, not invalid."
You could be such an angel at times but that stubbornness of yours... Satoru blew out a sigh.
"I'm not saying you're invalid. I'm looking out for you and our children. What if something happens? The stress of work, or just simply going out there, away from what's supposed safe for you and the children. Can't you send someone else?" Satoru's voice was an octave higher, trying so hard to find the right words without sounding rude.
"Satoru, I know you are concerned, but again, I won't put myself or our child at risk if I'm unsure that I can do this safely. I am pregnant, but that doesn't mean I can forego my duties. That's not how this works. I have my responsibilities, and those responsibilities I'm doing not just for myself, but for this family as well." Your voice constricted, not wanting to shout or even raise your voice at him, marking the end of the discussion as you turn your back to pack your luggage leaving Satoru standing where he was.
The next day, sure enough, the car that will send you to the airport arrived. Kouki and Saika knew something was up with the perfunctory kiss you gave to their father, and Satoru's sad eyes as he loaded your luggage to the bag. The kids watched from the doorstep, a worried look on Saika's face while Kouki had his usual emotionless expression on.
"Call me if anything ever happens no matter how minuscule it is." Satoru pulled you into his arms before you could enter the car. Damn, you feel so soft his heart is being pricked to let you go. He hates disagreeing with you. It throws him off.
"I will be back sooner than you expected, I promise." You nod, cupping his cheeks noticing he's pale. Price of a sleepless night...
Satoru watch the car drive off until it was out of sight. The sinking feeling like his feet is being shackled to the ground slowly started creeping in. An unpleasant feeling swirled inside his gut.
Kouki watched his sister bite her lip. Anxious with the sudden cloudy mood between their parents. She is after all a four years old girl who is learning how to sense her surroundings.
"Mama and Papa just had a fuss, but they're going to be fine." Kouki's blank face soften and pat his little sister's head. "They love each other after all."
What's so special about that trip? Satoru pondered as he do his work, taking in more jobs than he usually does. Using it as a distraction but ultimately ends up pondering over you while he fights off curses.
He remembers your words. Somehow he understands what lies beneath those lines. The cold truth behind it, even if you won't say it out loud.
This is my duty as your wife, my duty to the Gojo Clan because I'm the Madame.
It's the price of marrying him. The burden of being his wife.
Satoru grits his teeth.
"G-Gojo-san?" Ijichi flinched at the vivid way the poor level 3 curse was exterminated. The force was more than necessary. It was like bringing out a bazooka for a mosquito. Raw and brutal as that.
He thought he was already aware having been married to you for almost 10 years. But he is still so witless.
The hole in his heart couldn't be filled. It's like something inside him was gnawing him alive. Like there's sand inside his gut. Unsettling the cold sweat in his spine. Do you feel this way whenever he heads out to battle every time?
It's a dreadful sensation.
He couldn't imagine this happening to you. Especially since he heads out to battle almost every day.
Because this is his duty, as the strongest, as Gojo Satoru...
"Fuck!"
He never wanted you to face any difficulties that will ever endanger you. That's why he built a home away from the Gojo Estate. He doesn't want you to be subjected in the eyes of his clan. Not the hostility, and not the burden... He never wanted you to carry any of it.
But it seems like every time, he fails.
"Do you regret me?"
You once asked him, lying on the hospital bed after being attacked by Tachibana's daughter, barely escaping the preemptive danger.
Since then and until now, his answer is the same.
"No, I never. I regret putting you in this kind of situation."
It's his biggest regret. To put you in such peril because he loves you. He loves you so much that he pulled you into his rotten world. He wants to protect you, but then he cannot stop you from doing what you want, what you could to grow. Because deep down the thing he never wishes to see is your eyes filled with hatred looking towards him.
It would break the cracked heart you pieced together. He could never leash you, nor cage you no matter how much he loves you.
"There is no curse more twisted than love." He said that to Yuta because he knows it more than anyone... Probably because his love is as twisted as it could be just to have you.
Ringggg
His phone vibrated and he answers it without saying 'hello'. His mind is too clouded to form the right words without using the usual cheery masks he uses in public.
"..." The other line doesn't answer as well.
There was only their breathing. A steady one and the other one breathed quietly to listen as closely as possible. They didn't speak for a good moment, simply staying in that silence, listening. Satoru hid his lips in the high neck of his uniform.
"Satoru?" You finally spoke.
"...Mnn?" He swallowed a huge lump in his throat. "You called Honey, did something happen?"
"..." He could see you shaking your head on the other line even if he cannot see you. "I just wanted to hear you, that's all."
He faintly chuckled. "Are you going to sleep?"
"Hmmm." You answered. "The business deal is going smoothly. They'll sponsor the orphaned children's education in exchange for them as working students for the company."
"You're... working so hard." Satoru bit the walls of his mouth. "My wife is so hardworking." Did the praise have to be this bittersweet to his tongue?
"You should reward me when I come home. Lately, I've been craving some orange juice and baklava."
"Mnnn, I will."
Silence ensued over the two of them again... Soon your breathing slowed down. Satoru sensing you're probably asleep, just opened his phone until your call dropped, most probably because of low battery.
You have always loved kids. Probably that is why Kouki and Saika turned out to be such angels despite him being a menace. You're such a good wife and caring mother it puts him to shame always being away. So what right did he even have to stop you from doing your duties when he's the one who's often away to do his own?
Satoru closed the book, and look at his daughter who is fast asleep by his side. She has white hair and blue eyes from him but she looks just like you. He can already see the riot she will make when she grows older.
The door opened with Kouki holding his cinnamoroll plushie.
"Hey Buddy, can't sleep?"
The little guy walks over and climbs into the bed on Satoru's side.
"Are you and Mama upset, Papa?" Kouki settled quietly and held his plushie.
Satoru carefully lifted the blanket to Kouki's chest while making sure Saika doesn't wake up.
"Kind of, but we're gonna be okay. Coz I love Mama so much." Satoru kissed Kouki's forehead, reassuring his son.
"Mnn, I know. I love Mama too." Kouki nodded and blinked at his Papa. "Papa?"
"Mnn?" Satoru removed the blindfold from his eyes and replaced it with his sunglasses.
"I love you too." Kouki yawned and closed his eyes.
Satoru let out a deep breath and chuckled. Biting his lips as he leaned down to kiss his son one more time.
"I love you most Kikufuku."
The business deals went smoother than you expected, the three-day trip you thought became a two-day trip and before you knew it, you are on board the plane back to Tokyo, leaving your assistant to clean up behind as you did your best to come back early and surprise your family.
You won't say quarrels with Satoru are unusual. It's normal in marriage to have it. You have some quarrels with him, but most of those are solved within that day and the two of you talk about it as civilized as possible. It's a very rare thing for the two of you to shout or snarl at each other. It was only two or three times in the duration of your marriage that the argument reached the point of screaming.
With Satoru's line of work, the two of you decided to always work on the problem as soon as possible so no one walks out the door, angry. The one you had recently is one of those civilized quarrels but deep down you knew Satoru was still against it even the moment he hugged you in the car, he just let you go against his will... Because that's the person he is. He will never hold you back against your will.
That business deal was very important for you, perhaps being a mother makes you really soft and empathetic that you cannot turn your eyes away from those children that have lost their parents. The least you could do for them is make sure that their future will be taken care of.
You opened the door and everyone was already out of the house. The kids are in school and Satoru is at work. The house is spotless...
"Y/n?!" The door burst open and Satoru stood there with his blindfold falling down his neck, his breathing id ragged, probably from the hurry. His strides were quick as he cross the hallway and reach to pull you in his arms.
He smells so good... Like baby soap and powder... You inhaled his scent and returned the hug, it's not so tight because he was afraid to squish the baby bump but it was still warm...
"I was supposed to surprise you, but you surprised me first 'Toru." You chuckled and smiled.
Satoru was silent as you brush the underside of his eyes and stare at him with those eyes of yours that were filled with love. He could never get tired of the way your fingers caress him like he's the most fragile thing in the world. It feels so soft, so precious, so warm.
"Are you hungry? I'll cook." There was something stuck in his throat that was so hard to swallow.
"I'll take a shower first." You move and went upstairs leaving him in the kitchen. He was probably alerted by the guards that you're back that's why he looked as if he ran. When you came down, the sliding door to the backyard garden was open. Satoru was also there and so are your food.
The garden is blooming full of hydrangeas with butterflies fluttering around and the faint scent of the drizzle this morning wafted the air. It's a soft scene with the silence between you and your husband. You silently ate while Satoru simply stared at you, sometimes offering you more food which you accepted, not shying away when you're eating for three persons now.
"You know—"
"I'm sorry—"
You both spoke at the same time making you laugh a little and gestured for him to go first.
Satoru sighed, rubbing the back of his head, and awkwardly smirked.
"You know, I realized I was stupid for asking you not to go... For almost stopping you to do your duties. I didn't realize how unfair I was when I'm often away doing my obligations too. I was just really scared... for you, for our children that I didn't think how one-sided it was on your part for me to stop you from going when you've always been there to support me whenever I go." Satoru looked at you and his eyes finally softened. "I guess, the next time I will just tag along with you wherever you go. I won't stop you, and I'll make sure you're extra, extra safe with me by your side, won't you like that Baby?" His teasing tone was back.
But before he could see your reaction he was enveloped in a hug.
"I'm sorry... I know I can get really stubborn. And that will be the last trip for now." You pulled back and smiled. "So, this one..." You touched his heart and look at his eyes. "...will never worry that you'll lose me or our children."
You know how much he has already lost, and you will never be one of those.
Satoru pulled you onto his lap, making you sit sideways as he tuck his nose against your neck, his hand protectively splayed over your growing bump like a snug protection. You hugged him back, peppering kisses on his temples, whispering assurance as you run your fingers through his hair feeling him slightly whine at the tenderness you are showering him.
"You will never lose me Satoru, not me nor our children. So you have to always come back home because we are waiting for you."
Satoru nodded, nuzzling into your kisses.
Many of his elders said that he needs an obedient and submissive wife. But he knew that while you've always been nice, you still have that stubbornness rooted inside you, and yet... You may never be as obedient as per standard but he knew your understanding made you stand out the most. The heart to love him and to compromise was something you have given home boundlessly. You loved him enough to understand and compromise. He never needed a submissive wife. He needed an understanding spouse. Someone who understands it's hard to be with him and yet still stayed. And that was you, with the stubbornness that made him love you more.
"I won't say that is the last trip you'll take." Satoru grinned making you frown and look at him. "It's going to be autumn soon, and you know what that means?" Satoru already made arrangements for this.
Then it clicked on you. Ah... yes, Kouki and Saika have been looking forward to this every year. The annual vacation to their favorite place.
"How does a babymoon in Switzerland sound?" Satoru kissed your lips and grinned.

Book Report: Royal Audience
Welcome to another semi-recurring feature, where I read the royal books so you don’t have to.
A new royal book has recently been published. This one I found at my library in the “new books”/“this just in” section.
It’s about the Special Relationship between the US and the UK, focusing mainly on The Queen’s relationship with the POTUS.
There’s a lot of history and international politics discussed, but I found it an easy, enjoyable read. I do wish the photographs had been in color instead of black and white so it’d be easier to see the details, which are often discussed in the text. One thing that quickly became clear while reading is that of the men whom are considered The Queen’s favorites, the only thing they all have in common is that they gave attention to and supported the whole family at-large, like hosting Charles or Anne, being friendly with Margaret, giving opportunities for Philip to visit solo, etc. The POTUSes that just gave attention to The Queen and Philip weren’t as successful as nurturing the Special Relationship.
So without further ado, anecdotes about The Queen’s Presidents:
Hoover: The Queen never formally met him “in office,” but she sat next to him at dinner once in the ‘50s.
Wilson: The Queen never met him but he did visit George V at Windsor Castle (the first POTUS invited to Windsor) and that visit set the tone for many of the POTUSes’ visits to The Queen.
FDR: Another POTUS that The Queen never met, but her parents did. George VI and the Queen Mother were the first reigning monarchs to visit the US in 1939 and it was a smashing success. While the Americans have always had an affinity for the BRF, it was this tour (in which FDR and Eleanor served the royals their first hot dogs) that cemented how much Americans supported, or would show up for, the royals if/when they came to visit:
As the Washington Post once wrote, “She’s not our queen but before we’re through with her, she’ll probably think she is” and as Obama once quipped to Charles: “it’s fair to say that the American people are quite fond of the royal family…they like them much better than they like their own politicians.”
Truman was POTUS when Elizabeth and Philip had their first official tour of the US in October 1951 as Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh. The trip, conducted as part of a visit to Canada, was delayed due to King George’s lung surgery and resulted in Elizabeth and Philip taking the BRF’s first international flight. Apparently everyone was so nervous about the flight that the Royal Navy deployed battleships every 700 nautical miles across the Atlantic just in case. By taking the flight, the royals were only a week behind schedule and they sailed home with 97 pieces of luggage.
Eisenhower: the Eisenhower were considered family friends by the royals. He remains the only POTUS to be invited to Balmoral and Elizabeth sent him her personal recipe for drop scones which - yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus - is published in the book, for all you home bakers. The Queen made her first state visit to the US under Eisenhower coinciding with the 350th anniversary of the Jamestown Colony (a trip Her Majesty would repeat 50 years later for the 400th anniversary and made me late to school but that’s another story for later). This state visit is what finally knocked Sputnik off the American front pages.
Kennedy: If you watched the Kennedy episodes of The Crown’s Season 2, you can skip this chapter. Kennedy once met a young Princess Elizabeth though, when his father was the US ambassador.
Johnson: The Queen never met Johnson in person. LBJ didn’t like traveling and preferred to focus on domestic affairs and Vietnam. But Princess Margaret did meet LBJ while on a visit to the US, which is also chronicled on The Crown, which the author takes great pains to mention is fiction because Margaret and LBJ never actually did kiss 🙄. LBJ and The Queen were friendly in letters though.
Nixon: hosted The Queen’s very first Thanksgiving dinner when he visited London in November 1958 (while Eisenhower’s VP) to open the American Memorial Chapel at St. Paul’s Cathedral. The Queen’s acceptance of the invitation to Thanksgiving dinner caused such a consternation because Nixon hadn’t lacked a tuxedo that all the men in the American delegation who had traveled with him and worked at the embassy were measured to find someone from whom Nixon could borrow a tuxedo. Nixon’s visit to Buckingham Palace in February 1969 was the first time that color film was used at the palace.
Ford: hosted The Queen and Philip during the US’s bicentennial celebrations. It is considered to be one of The Queen’s most successful visits/tours. The tour was in July 1976 and if you know East Coast summer weather, you have an idea already what the weather was like. First there were rough seas that made even Philip seasick (they flew from London to Bermuda, then sailed on Britannia from Bermuda to Philly). Then there was humid muggy heat in Philly that The Queen was fanning herself often. And then in DC, it was even swampier with daytime temps of 100F in the shade. The bicentennial visit later became the theme of The Queen’s 1976 Christmas message - reconciliation.
Carter: Carter was the POTUS most considered to be The Queen’s peer since they were closest in age, and that’s about the only thing they had in common. He horribly offended The Queen Mother by kissing her at the G7, hosted Princess Anne on her first solo trip to the US (wherein she shocked the press by being more like Philip in her temperament than The Queen), and personally lobbied Westminster Abbey to include his favorite poet - Dylan Thomas - in Poets Corner. His wife, Rosalyn, is the only FLOTUS The Queen didn’t meet.
Reagan: After Eisenhower, probably the POTUS The Queen was closest to, over their shared love of horses. Their relationship reminds me of the classic “introvert adopted by extroverts” trope (albeit in its own unique way). The Reagans’ first trip to the UK was chaotic in its planning with offenses left and right that made Margaret Thatcher reel. Charles and Nancy had a wonderful relationship and were close for the rest of her life.
Bush 41: Bush (another peer who of similar demographics to The Queen; they were just a few years apart in age, he served in WW2 with a career that reminded her of Philip’s, each had four surviving children, their eldest sons were relatively the same age) was favorite POTUS #3 after Eisenhower and Reagan. The relationship started off rocky, but it was Pickles - a puppy from the Bushes’ dog given to a friend whom The Queen had visited - that smoothed everything over and the two couples got along well. The Queen’s official visit under Bush 41 began with the infamous ‘talking hat’ speech and saw her take in her first baseball game. It was proposed that Philip should throw the first pitch out but The Queen nixed it, though she did join Bush for a little walkabout on the field before the game started. (Boo. I would’ve rather liked to see Philip throw the first pitch. I bet he’d have thrown a strike without any practice.)
Clinton: Clinton prioritized the relationship with Blair more than with The Queen, which ended up salvaging the Special Relationship after Blair’s predecessor (John Major) practically blew it up by getting involved in the 1992 POTUS election when he/his government campaigned for Bush. But Clinton came around to The Queen in the end. Clinton is notably the first president who was younger than The Queen and I suspect his presidency marked a change in how The Queen approached the special relationship.
And also, there’s a very good chance that this chapter illustrates Meghan’s obsession with Hillary Clinton - Diana and Hillary had a good enough friendship, even if only a working relationship, that Diana co-chaired a White House breakfast with Hillary. The book also points out that much of Diana’s post-BRF work in the US took place in the Clinton administration, so now I’m wondering if perhaps Meghan sees the Clintons as a partial extension of Diana’s network and that’s why she tries so hard with Hillary. (And also there’s the obvious that Hillary knew/met Diana so maybe Meghan has been trying to court Hillary to be part of the “Meghan is just like Diana” fan club.)
Bush 43: had the first official full state visit of The Queen’s reign, which was also only the second state visit by a US President (Wilson in 1918). There were significant security concerns due to the War on Terror and this is also when the Daily Mail’s reporter was a footman for 2 months; the reporter broke his own cover to report on the state visit. The Queen had her final state visit to the US in May 2007 as part of the celebrations for the 400th anniversary of Jamestown. (Her visit was the unofficial kickoff to the official celebrations, which began the week after.)
I didn’t know this, but The Queen personally donated a significant sum to the 9/11 memorial funds. Also The Queen enjoys Mexican food. A lady after my own heart!
Obama: Obama’s relationship with Britain began cool, owing to family tragedy closely connected with British colonialism in Kenya. He and the PM at the time, Brown, didn’t seem to get on, but The Queen stepped in and it’s thought her gentleness with the Obamas is what softened Obama’s consideration of the British. I do believe that Obama was the first head of state to see The Queen as more a grandmotherly figure and that helped boost The Queen’s global reputation (Bush 43 and Clinton saw her as motherly, and everyone through Bush 41 saw her as a contemporary/peer).
In the epilogue, the author writes that he believes Obama was favorite POTUS #4. I think the Obamas had a special friendship with The Queen, but sometimes I feel like it was more of mentorship, with The Queen showing them a generous kindness they weren’t expecting that led to both of them learning from her what it means to be diplomatic without losing sense of themselves.
Trump: His working visit in 2018 and the state visit in 2019 both were preceded by chaos and politics. A lot of people looked to The Queen’s symbolism in her outfits for how she felt about him. Trump held The Queen in high esteem, which she seemed to reciprocate diplomatically, but he had waffling views on Britain itself and that seemed to affect how the Special Relationship was managed (ie one day they were allies, the next day, Trump was assailing the mayor of London on Twitter).
Biden: No one quite knew what to do with him. He had proud Irish heritage so everyone thought he wouldn’t regard Britain well, but at the same time, Biden was outspoken against Brexit and Boris Johnson, which aligned with mainstream feelings of the day, so they weren’t sure how the wind was going to blow. But the Special Relationship prevailed, with Biden in a unique position that saw him speaking more about the generosity and the humanity of The Queen given what was happening to her - first the COVID protocols, then Oprah interview, then Philip’s passing, then her own illness.
(Biden is in the “Queen as motherly” club with Clinton and Bush 43.)

Chapter 21 - ‘You’re Mine’
“If you don’t get in your own seat so we can land in Greece I’m gonna kill you” Lauren yelled at you from the other end of the plane.
“Finally, someone putting Y/N in her place, just gets her way all the time.” One of Marcel’s friends piled on.
“Alright, alright, relax…” Trent tried to hush them before nuzzling a little into your neck whispering against your skin. “Wanna get up before we land, beautiful?”
“Don’t wanna” you whispered, still half asleep. “Wanna be back in our bed, T.”
“You’ll have a bed there with me, don’t you worry. C’mon.” He grunted trying to stand up with you latched to him. He managed though and plopped you back on your own seat. The plane landed safely. You all walking off the stairs of the plane into the warm heat.
“I don’t wanna hear anything from you.” You groaned as Lauren came up wrapping her arm around you.
“Relaxxx, Y/N.” She laughed. “It’s fine, we talked about it. It’s all fine.” She attempted to persuade you that her and Marcel fucking wouldn’t be a big deal.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’m actually dying though, it's so hot right now.” You ignored her and started to complain, trying to pull your sweatshirt over your head. You still didn’t feel great and the heat was not helping. When you finally got to where you were staying though your sluggish feeling seemed to disappear at the sight of the luxury villa. It was massive and gorgeous, perfectly settled on the coast line. It had a big lawn out back with an infinity pool at its edge, sun loungers, a beach club below accessible by a private set of stairs. The house was modern, big windows floor to ceiling, each bedroom having an outdoor space. You beamed and grabbed at Trent’s waist squeezing him from behind as he carried all your stuff.
“It’s perfect, T!” You quietly squealed as you squeezed him tighter walking into the house.
“You like it? Happy?” He asked, turning his head to try to see you.
“So happy!” You came round him to hold his hand taking it off your suitcase. You tried to carry your own for a moment but struggled so he shook off your hand and continued carrying both bags while leaning over to press a kiss to your temple.
“Just let me do it, I’m serious.” He laughed at your poor attempt to help. You all explored the house noisily, the boys fighting over rooms, Trent knowing the villa took you immediately to the Master bedroom. It had a big bed in the middle of the room, white, filled with pillows, a cement floor, a giant en suite, and a little living space that led to an outdoor space with a fire. Trent collapsed on the big bed as soon as he walked in… dramatically, of course. Sighing.
“You want me to unpack for you?” You asked as you moved the suitcases around towards the walk-in wardrobe.
“Nah, I want you to c’mere.” He gestured lazily for you to come over to him on the bed. Instinctively, you straddled over him. He was already hard the moment you sank down.
“T…” you giggled as his hands moved quickly but smoothly under your clothes.
“C’mon… I’ve got you all over me last night begging me to fuck you. Just lemme touch you now. You don’t want that any more? hmm?” He smuggly teased you for your desperation last night but was similarly begging for you to let him have sex with you now. His hands pulled off your clothes slowly and sensually, you felt yourself start to go from hungover and tired to very turned on and completely soaked.
“Fuck, you feel so good.” You moaned as you grinded your core on top of his hard cock. His lips pressed into yours for a suffocating kiss. Your body laid flush against his as you made out. You sat back up on his lap and your tits bounced in a mesmerizing way that had Trent immediately following you up, his lips around one of your nipples swiftly, his tongue flicking back and forth over it, surrounding it. You were gasping out a moan when his free hand came up to play with your other. “Oh my god, s-shit, that feels so good, baby.” Attending to one and then the other, swapping his mouth for his hand and his hand for his mouth.
“You’re so fucking hot… fuck. Need to be inside you right now, baby.” He moaned, pulling you back down with him to lay on the bed.
“You want to fuck me, T?” You asked teasingly, rubbing your dripping wet core down his hard length beneath you.
“Yeah, baby. Gimme what’s mine. Let me fuck you so good. Let me make you feel good.” He rattled off words but you had a hard time listening after he lined his cock up with your entrance, lifting your ass up and guided you to sink down taking all of him immediately. You were so wet it was seamless but the minimal foreplay made for pleasurable pain from the stretch of him. “You’re such good girl f’me. You okay, baby?” You nodded and started to ride him after adjusting a little. It felt so good you could feel the knot in your stomach form almost immediately. You and Trent just understood each other's bodies, what each of you needed. He naturally hit the perfect spot every time in quick succession. He roughly rolled you over on the bed to be on top of you. Pinning you under him.
“Oh f-fuck!!!” You practically yelled as Trent hit your g-spot hard and fast, again and again and again. You could hear just how wet you were as your walls hugged him tighter. The knot in your stomach was coming undone quicker than you expected. You tried to put your hand over your mouth to muffle your moans but he wasn’t having that. He held your hands above you with restraint as he continued to fuck you.
“Wanna hear how good I’m making you feel, baby.” He whispered against your neck before biting your sensitive skin only pulling another, louder, moan from you.
“T…” you whined. “Please, I’m so close, I’m so… f-fuck!… I’m so close.” You told him squeezing your eyes shut as you started to feel your orgasm approaching. He was so deep inside that you could feel every ridge and vein.
“Shit, just wait a little bit for me, beautiful. You can do it, yeah, just a little more for me. Take it like a good girl.” Trent struggled to get the words out as your pussy started to clench tighter around him. “Tell me how good I make you feel… tell me your mine, this pussy’s mine.” Lost in his own pleasure drilling in and out of you as you whimpered. The warmth of your pussy completely captivating him. Unbeknownst to you, Lauren had opened the door to the master bedroom about halfway with the innocent intention of coming to see your room before she witnessed you getting absolutely railed by your boyfriend. Her eyes blinked a few times in shock at the rough nature but slammed the door closed immediately. Neither you or Trent even noticed the intrusion too focused on the other.
“What?” George came to ask Lauren with a furrowed brow confused as to why she shut the door so fast.
“Well…” she paused for a moment only then for your voice to be heard through the door, answering for her.
“Fuck, you make me feel..ah! so good. F-fuck… this pussy’s all yours, I’m yours… fuckkk.” You could barely get the sentence out as Trent continued to pound into you. His high now approaching. His large hands drew down your body in between you two and began rubbing little circles on your throbbing clit. Your mind turned to mush. His thrusts becoming increasingly sloppier and harsher.
“You’re such a good girl, f’me. Cum all over my cock, yeah? I’m gonna fill you up, baby. Make a fucking mess on my cock while I fill you up.” Trent babbled as you came, your body aching, your eyes squeezing shut again. You were gasping as Trent fucked you through your high.
“T…baby” you moaned, feeling his release painting your insides.
“That’s my good girl…” he said as he pumped you full of his cum extending the pleasure of your high. He laid on top of you completely spent as you both breathed heavily, whispering I love yous back and forth. Every part of Trent was so unfairly pretty you just laid there admiring every inch unable to move.
“Honestly…” George groaned, rolling his eyes at Lauren. The pair heard the whole crescendo of your little session. “Some people just have it all.” He shook his head.
“His dick can’t be that fucking good…” Lauren laughed as they moved away from your room down the corridor.
“I hate that I know he has a big dick too, like what more does he need. He’s one of the best footie players in the world, fucking makes millions of pounds, he looks like that..” George threw his hand back towards the direction of your room. “And… he’s got a big dick, honestly, of course he has a girl like Y/N.” He grumbled but was laughing a little. Trent was his best friend, of course he felt a little jealousy but he loved him, his rant was purely banter.
“She’s not that great…” Lauren said, laughing at George. He just gave her a telling look. “Okay, well..” she laughed a little harder. “She’s fucking perfect, I know! She’s my best friend. I deal with it every day. She’s so hot, her face is beautiful, she’s smart, she’s so nice, everyone loves her… People like them deserve each other. God just wanted them to have it all.”
“It’s ridiculous.” George laughed equally as hard. “I’m jealous to be fair, imagine fucking pulling a bird like Y/N.” He said walking into the kitchen where a Marcel and a friend of his were sat.
“Yeah, mate… I couldn’t. I’ll never have that shot.” Marcel’s friend answered George’s statement openly.
“Guys…” Lauren cooed with a little pout. “You’re all objectively good looking boys don’t act like T is some… ” she paused trying to think of a way to lie to tell them that being a professional athlete didn’t effect his image to women. “I don’t know…but you could all pull your own version of Y/N, someone good for you.”
“I’m out of this conversation…” Marcel remarked moving to open the refrigerator that was next to where Lauren was standing. “Not really interested in a Y/N variation. Shoot my shot elsewhere” He spoke into the fridge before whispering so only Lauren could hear. “What’d you think, sweetheart?”
“Yeah, can do that.” She whispered back, trying to suppress her giggles.
You had dinner that night out at some restaurant so you got ready with Lauren in her room taking your sweet time. The boys attempted to complain about how long you took but seeing as Trent wasn’t phased by the time consumption and their comments falling on deaf ears, they quickly deduced this is how the trip was going to go. They had no say, you were going to get ready as you pleased.
You wore a white linen halter dress that had a ruffled neckline that cut so open and deep you couldn’t even wear pasties so you were just praying your nipples behaved and stayed covered tonight. You opted for a mesh Gucci nude GG heeled sandal that featured the logo monogram patterned in rhinestone crystals across it paired with Bottega Veneta silver drop earrings and matching silver mini Sardine Bag .It was simple but effective.
You made your way into a fun little restaurant tucked on a cobble stone street you were going to worry about in your heels later. It was private and nice to not stress. You sat at a long table with too much liquor on it already. You nestled next to Trent… obviously but anyways…the boys filled the rest of the table and Lauren had neatly placed herself between George and Marcel’s friend, Marcel across from her. A little bit after you all settled you heard a loud familiar voice.
“I’m here, don’t worry” said muddied in a laugh. You picked your head off Trent’s shoulder to see an illuminated, gorgeous, gorgeous, Jude Bellingham.
“Wow, the golden boy graces us with his presence.” Trent mocked. Jude coming over to give him a hug.
“Mrs.TAA, you okay?” Jude laughed at his own joke and planted a kiss on your cheek.
“Yeah, all good. Haven’t seen you in forever, was starting to miss you.” You teased seeing it had been under a week since you last saw him.
“Alright, lads?” Trent said, sticking his arm out to dap up Jobe and Jude’s friend, Toby. They all proceeded to sit at the table for dinner when you felt your phone buzz. You already knew from who. A text from Lauren…
‘Bathroom immediately. Y/N… wtf.’
You kissed at Trent’s temple before getting up meeting Lauren at her end of the table to walk with her to the bathroom.
“Excuse me! Excuse meee!” She feigned a yell but was whispering, squeezing your arm. You could only laugh at her reaction. Lauren had developed quite the crush on Jude or built some sort of lust at the very least. She’d never actually met Jude but, like everyone else, she was obsessed without having to.
“I’m sorry!” you laughed, not really meaning your apology. “I told you not to ruin your trip night one!” Continuing in a fit of giggles pushing the bathroom door open. “Also, you said ‘it’s fine’” you mocked her voice repeating what she had told you about her and Marcel.
“Oh my fucking god, what do I do?” She looked at herself in the mirror and shook her head. “Why do I do this? I did this to myself… You know what? It is fine, it’s fine.” She started giggling too.
“Is it?” You asked, staring into the mirror with intrigue back at her while reapplying some lip gloss.
“It is!” She yelled laughing. “No, but why can’t I mess around, I’m single. I’m not not going to shoot my shot with fucKING JUDE!” She got louder at the end of her sentence.
“Don’t hurt anyone, that's all I’m asking. Don’t disrupt my peaceful life.” You joked.
“Peaceful is comical” she made fun of you. “But seriously what do I do. I can’t go out there and just like go introduce myself that’s embarrassing and desperate.”
“Because you’re… not….” You laughed. “No, I’m kidding but we’ll just go back out, sit down where we were and eat. If he introduces himself or something gets turned in your direction then you can answer, if not, then we can pretend we forgot, unphased, and introduce you two as we leave before we go out.”
“Fine, fine, yeah, that’ll be fine.” She babbled trying to adjust her outfit now.
“Does that sound ‘fine’” you mocked laughing.
“You’re not being helpful!” She moaned, swatting at you.
“I am! Just do what you do best. Sit there and look pretty and let all the little English boys fall in love with you.” You joked pulling at her top.
“Ugh the accents I cannot.” She whined. “I’m not going to make it out of here alive. How do my boobs look?” She said pressing them together, pushing them up.
“Perfect, if I was a boy.. oooff” you joked making a face. “I’m not and still… ooof.” Flattering her.
“You’re the worst! I can’t believe you did this to me… let’s go…” Lauren moaned, pushing you towards the door, you both still laughing. You arrived at the table following your little plan back to your seats.
“Okay?” Trent asked, pressing a kiss to the shell of your ear.
“All good” you said cheekily, unable to hide a big smile.
“What? What’s up with you?” He smiled seeing yours, pinching at your waist, moving closer to you, starting to press wet kisses against your skin.
“Nothing! Nothing! Stop! Leave me alone!” You giggled squirming, feigning annoyance but loving every touch.
“I forget the nausea momentarily… and then it returns so fast. You two are so gross.” George complained watching you and Trent. Down the table though Lauren was completely disinterested in what was happening in your direction. She sat, her arms slyly pressing her tits together leaned further over than needed to let them practically spill out on the table. She’d lick her lips and play with the straw of her drink slowly. Marcel and his friend weren’t complaining, they figured that’s just Lauren being Lauren. She could feel Jude’s eyes flicker over her though. At first a glance inspecting the table and then a stare infatuated with what he saw down the table. She looked good and Jude wanted to meet her immediately but he was cooler than that, calmer than that so he played the game she was. He recognized who Lauren was from your Instagram and stories but he was fantasizing about getting to really ‘know’ her. Lauren picked her drink up, her tongue dancing around the straw like she had a hard time finding it. She took a sip and wiped her mouth slowly with her thumb, her fingers dragging over her plump lips, her mouth gaping a little. She knew he was watching her so she kept her head still but flicked her eyes towards him. They made eye contact. Jude attempted to wink, he couldn't but he tried. She smiled softly, holding in a laugh and sent him a more successful wink back.
Dinner wrapped up and you all were going to go out to a small club, nothing crazy, not tonight. You stood up, Trent’s arms hung over your shoulders as he stood behind you whispering mischievous things in your ear. You were a little lost in the moment feeling his body against yours, his lips ghosting over your ear, his voice, his hands over you… until you remembered you had to go help Lauren so you stepped out of his hold. Trent wasn’t thrilled, he grabbed at your hand a little with a pout but you pulled to walk away.
“I’ll be back, baby, promise” you cooed, pushing your lips out with a ‘mwah.’ You pulled Lauren from her current conversation and walked with her back over to Jude, Jobe, Toby, and Trent as normal as if you were just coming back to get into the car that was arriving soon. You faked a moment of realization. “Wait, I just remembered you haven’t met yet…” Lauren looking at you with innocent doe eyes like she was unaware.
“Nah, don’t think so.” Toby’s eyes lit seeing Lauren. She was every man’s dream to be fair but he sat on the same side of the table as her so he hadn’t clocked her whole appearance yet.
“Sorry, sorry! My bad, Lauren…erm, this is…” and you went through the motions saving Jude for last.
“You’re so leng.” Jobe’s words fumbled out of his mouth. His cheeks once full dropped, he was shocked he said it aloud. Everyone laughed a little giving Jobe shit as they all politely introduced themselves to one another. Your cheeks warmed hearing Jobe though, something was so endearing about him you just wanted to squish him but you had to focus on Jude for the moment. You pulled the group apart in directions towards the arrived cars nonchalantly leaving Lauren and him trailing behind intentionally.
“My little brothers right, ya know?” Jude spoke first, his hand coming to the small of Lauren’s exposed back.
“About…” she cooed pretending to be naive.
“You’re sexy. You know you’re sexy.” Jude hushly said into her ear. Lauren giggled a little.
“You think?” Trying to play coy but she couldn’t resist saying more. “You’re very sexy too, Mr. Bellingham.”
“Yeah, think so?” He teased, very well aware he was.
“You know you are… but I did manage to find a flaw though.” Lauren spoke as her eyes danced over his frame.
“My flaw?” Jude was taken aback. What was she talking about? It wasn’t the way he thought this conversation was going so he just waited with the new feeling of being on edge.
“Someone cannot wink.” Lauren laughed adjusting her top but really just was calling attention to her tits. “It’s fine we all have our flaws.” She teased.
“I’m not sure I’m seeing any right now.” He whispered against her ear. She could feel his plump lips, his hand moving down her spine a little more. “You can’t possibly have one.” He fed her ego.
“People say I’m a little too touchy, maybe that’s a flaw.” She cooed looking straight ahead pretending to ignore his proximity.
“Nah, can’t be that.” Jude laughed a little. “Haven’t touched me once.” He reminded her. Lauren turned towards him almost immediately, placing her hand on his chest.
“Do you want me to touch you?” She said the words dripping with seduction.
“I know what you’re doingggg” you jumped a little as Trent sang smug in your ear when he came up behind you his hands caressing your skin.
“Just let them meet…” you said sheepishly, a little shy with your decision and under the warm touch of his hands.
“Y/N, Marce is involved now, this is a bad idea, baby.” He tried to explain. He placed a kiss behind your ear before coming in front of you holding your hands out fiddling with your fingers until he laced his with yours.
“C’mon, let it unfold! They’re all adults.” You whined with a pout. Pulling his hands a little towards you for him to let go of yours only to return his back on your body.
“Barely…” he laughed, gripping your ass, palming it in his hands. You could only shake your head giggling along with him.
You made it inside the club, it was chic, small, good music, good vibes, you had kind of split off into two groups within your own section. Jude and Trent, Jobe and Marcel, it just worked that way. You were cuddled up with Trent, next to Lauren, the others spread around you. Having probably too many drinks but you were happy. You couldn’t help yourself from making out with Trent sporadically. Although when he got up to go talk to Marcel quickly when he remembered something, you suddenly felt just how needy you were, immediately missing him. God, were you that horny? Fuck… but it wasn’t that, you were actually just absolutely wasted. You hadn’t noticed from how firm Trent’s hands had held you, so steady. You were really fucked up and not in a good way, your head was spinning. When you looked at Lauren, her figure blurred. You stood up, wobbled a little, and started to go to the bathroom.
“Want me to go with you?” Lauren asked sweetly, rising up from her seat but you waved her off. You needed to reset. Get some water, splash some on your face, and be somewhere quiet for a second. In retrospect, you should’ve told Trent where you were going, asked him to help you. He would’ve, he literally stepped away for 5 minutes and you acted like he had deserted you and you had to survive on your own. Lauren told Trent you where you went when he came back and he hummed in understanding getting caught up on the current conversation mindlessly unaware of your state.
‘Fuck’ you said as you gripped the bathroom sink. You turned around quickly only to trip, smacking to the flooring barely reaching the toilet before you threw up. This was a disaster. You felt like you were going to cry all alone. You don’t know what you drank but something fucked you up bad. You sat on the floor for a while before standing, pulling yourself up by the sink, leaning desperately on it. You looked in the mirror and sighed at how disheveled you looked. It brought back haunting memories of times before you had met Trent. ‘No, no, no, not doing this.’ You slapped your face. You had been gone for ages when Trent texted you, that’s when he and Lauren both realized she had your phone. You gathered yourself best you could, conscious enough now to know you needed Trent, Lauren, you don’t know Marce… literally anyone you knew to help you. You opened the bathroom door and stepped into the hall before leaning against the wall to prepare yourself to go back. It was then you realized you maybe didn’t want literally anyone you knew to help you. You felt sicker than you did before when you heard the voice.
“Well, well, well, I’ll be fucking damned. Nothings changed huh?” A man’s voice cooed from in front of you. You knew exactly who it was, it was fucking crazy he was here but you knew who it was but you could barely lift your head up.
Chase… Chase was let’s just say not a good person and for some reason he was like a tumor on you. He was cancerous, ever growing, returning at inconvenient moments, sickening, life ending. To say he treated you like shit would be an understatement. You felt his calloused finger lift up your chin. “Not happy to see me. Come onnn Y/N” he dragged. You winced as he placed his hand against the wall next to your head caging you in. You and Lauren both knew Chase from university but you specifically did all things unimaginably imoral with him. “What are you doing at a club here? Where have you been? Haven’t heard from you in ages… not like you.”
“Fuck yo-you.” You swayed slurring and he laughed. “I mmmoved to the UK, I didn’t want you to hear from me.” You managed to get out some words.
“Yeah, still skinny as ever… “ he gripped his opposite hand around your arm, his fingers being able to wrap fully around it. “How’s that working out, have a new man stuffing your mouth full?” He rudely asked. You could only shake your head. Suddenly though you felt like you saw an angel cutting through the crowd. Trent appeared next to you and grabbed Chase’s hand harshly off the wall. Your eyes welled up relieved but your stomach dropped now nervous upon his arrival.
“You wanna back up, mate?” Trent spit.
“What the fuck, bro?” Chase shouted shaking his arm out of Trent’s hold.
“Back the fuck up from my girl.” Trent said again sternly, much more calm then Chase, stepping slightly in front of you.
“Ahhhh…” Chase laughed mockingly. “Your girl… I see. That’s how you got to Greece. Opened your legs up the second you hear an accent like your dads? The jokes write themselves, babe”
“You need to shut the fuck up right now.” Trent bit back.
“Or what bro? Do you know who my dad fucking is? Who the hell are you?” Chase obnoxiously and confidently pushed unknowingly against Trent.
“I’m so fucking serious…” Trent paused when a friend of Chase’s you’d never met came over. His arms flinging around his neck.
“Yooooo, how the fuck did you meet Trent Alexander-Arnold!” The friend yelled drunkenly. Trent rolled his eyes, shaking his head. “Yo, fuck City, you guys should’ve won the league. Can I get a picture with you, my man?”
“Mate, look, great to meet you but not right now. Currently your friend is being a cunt.” He emphasized the word. “… to my girlfriend so I’m sorry brother.” How Trent seemed to remain kind to a stranger in the middle of this you didn’t know.
“Oh, got yourself some shitty athlete only he would know, embarrassing honestly.” Chase spoke again, gesturing to his drunk friend hanging off him.
“Bro! That’s Trent Alexander-Arnold. He’s fucking won everything in soccer. He’s like one of the best right backs in the world.” Chase’s friend informed him and momentarily Chase felt stupid and panicked but it only spurred him to push his friend away and say something more crass.
“Aye good for you, she’s easy to manipulate, I get it. Pussy’s fucking tight, lets you fucking use her how ever you want.” He kept talking and you felt like you were going to throw up again.
“T…” you said pulling on Trent’s arm.
“Y/N, fucking find Marcel… now.” Trent practically barked at you, motioning you to go back to your section and you listened obediently as your eyes welled with more tears making it hard to see. His head quickly snapped back to Chase
“See, she just does whatever you say. Can be a bitch but you just shut her up with a dick in her mouth. Keeps her skinny too… she’d be just fine gagging on me.” Chase laughed.
You stumbled back into the roped off area, falling before getting back to anyone. Jude and Marcel rushed to pick you up.
“Shit! Are you okay?” Jude said crouching down to you.
“Hey…What the fuck is happening?” Marcel asked you panicked. Jude helped you up but his eyes were scanning the place looking for Trent. You started balling crying. You couldn’t breathe. Marcel carried you over to the couch where you clung to Lauren sobbing.
“Who the fuck is he talking to?” Jude asked into the club’s air. Lauren perked up stretching her neck to try to see and when she saw who was in front of Trent she audibly gasped.
“Holy fuck… fuck.” She was shocked. She recognized Chase immediately.
“What the fuck is going on?” Jude asked, seeing her reaction. “I’m going over there to see what’s happening.” Leaving abruptly. As he approached Trent he could hear the tail end of one of Chase’s sentences.
“She’ll come back to New York I’m sure crying to me when you realize she’s not that hot, nothing more than a good fuck. Another whore desperate for attention.” Chase cackled looking behind Trent seeing you struggle.
“Shut the fuck up bro. Fuck you” Trent shouted, everything went red. His ears were ringing. He felt his knuckles crack against Chase’s bone structure as it broke. He hit Chase so hard he fell to the ground knocked out for a moment as his nose gushed. His cheekbone and nose completely shattered.
“Aye! Aye! What the fuck is going on!” Jude rushed over grabbing Trent, pushing him away, standing in between the two boys. Chase’s friend came running back too.
“Oh fuck!” He said looking down at his friend before seeing that Jude had come over. “Yooo Bellingham you’re the goat, man, this is crazy” the kid was clearly fucked up and didn’t care too much about Chase’s well being and was more interested in meeting Jude, who frankly didn’t even bat an eye at the mention of his name.
“Fuck you! Don’t fucking ever come near her again, don’t fucking touch her, don’t talk to her, don’t even fucking think about her. You’re a piece of shit!” Trent spat at the ground Chase was still laying on. Jude was still piecing together what was happening but was quick to back Trent regardless. He didn’t need any information or reason.
“Fuck you bro. Take your small dick and your dad’s credit card out of here, you cunt!” Jude yelled as Chase scrambled to get up. Security came over and picked up Chase telling him he needed to leave. It was a surprise to Chase and his friend, they looked dumbfounded but it wasn’t a shock to Trent and Jude at all.
“What the fuck? Are you serious? That dick punched me.” Chase groaned, holding his nose. He was right Trent knocked him the fuck out but as ‘important’ as Chase thought he was or as big of a deal as he thought his dad could be, it was never going to match up with the status of footballers.
“Sorry, sir. We prioritize the safety of our VIP patrons. You’re causing a disturbance and we do not tolerate any type of harassment.” The security guard said robotically, shoving the two boys out.
Jude didn’t ask Trent what happened. He knew it was better just to leave it alone for now so they both walked back to your area in silence. Trent’s heart pounding, his fist bruising, his mind running wild with what he just heard about you. You were still collapsed on Lauren crying when they returned. Trent pulled you off her and wiped your tears, swiping under your eyes with his thumbs softly. He was so gentle as he picked your limp body up.
“Let’s go. We’re going back to the fucking villa.” He said so aggressively in contrast to his touch moments ago.
“I’ll come with you…” Lauren said standing up.
“No… fuck no, seriously. Me and her are fucking leaving, just have a good time. We’ll see you lot later.” Trent shortly said, moving with intent out of the club..
He knew everything about your past, you had told him but he brushed it off, he didn’t like it but it wasn’t like you two met virgins, he had a past as well you weren’t fond of. You were adults, you moved past all that, or so you thought. That said, Trent was feeling a blinding rage at the moment. Hearing this fucking boy talking about you completely infuriated him. You witnessed girls falling all over him all the time, in front of you blushing at his words, holding his arm tightly in a photo, god, posting him on their Instagram stories drooling, it was hard but that’s the life you had committed to. You trusted him at the end of the day to only be with you. On the flip side of the relationship though, Trent had never really seen you interact with any other men. He kind of moved you directly to be under his watch early on and you were happy with that. The guys you were around were always his teammates, family, close friends and you were his. He never saw you out at a club dancing, he never saw you flirt with a waiter jokingly with your friends, he never saw any of it because he was always there until he wasn’t. He couldn’t have been there for times you had been with Chase. It drove him mad there was nothing he could do about your previous antics. He blacked out, not from alcohol but from anger.
Chase treated you like shit. Plain and simple. Cheated on you, although you’re not really sure you were ever his girlfriend but he definitely was your boyfriend. He called you nasty names, used you for sex, it was mean, rough, and derogatory always, he made fun of you constantly, the whole experience was demoralizing and it tanked your self esteem. You don’t know why you chose him, the whole ‘the man you meet at 19’ rang in your head, for whatever reason you had and he stuck to you like a leech. You just wanted someone, anyone to love you because you had fallen so out of love with yourself, but he loathed you, he did everything but love you. The self doubt and hatred was bad, scary, and toxic. It created a terrible relationship between you and other people, you and food, you and your body. You resented Chase for it because he planted the seed. It wasn’t until about a year or so before you had met Trent that you finally drew a line. Things had gone too far. He pushed you too far.
The car ride home with Trent was excruciatingly silent. The inside of the car was so cold, you felt he was miles away sitting on the other side of the seat. He completely disconnected from you. He couldn’t stomach it. He couldn’t stop thinking about Chase fucking you. Hearing him mention the tightness of your pussy made Trent ill. He loved you no matter what but right now he couldn’t handle the emotions swishing around in his head, the liquor pooling in his liver… fuck, the image of the hem of your dress dangerously high on your thigh lit by the moonlight in the car. He hated that he wanted to fuck you right now, prove to you that Chase was never the one for you, but the thought of it alone hurt his heart. He wasn’t meant to compete for you. How could you have been with someone else, he didn’t blame you, you didn’t know Trent yet but he was heartbroken, his Y/N, his Y/N was with someone else. He just wanted to make this all go away. Disappear. He knew it was a juvenile emotion but he couldn’t shake his anger.
“I’m sorry” you tried to speak but Trent was still in a fury.
“Enough Y/N.” He yelled, slamming a water on the bedside table. “Just go to fucking bed, alright?” So you did. You walked to your side of the bed but you were struggling to get your dress off. “C’mere.” Trent said much softer now, sweet almost. He helped you out of it, taking off your jewelry carefully as you stood completely naked in front of him. “It’s so frustrating how beautiful you look all the fucking time.” Shutting his eyes trying to block his view of you. “Just go to bed…please” He pleaded when he pushed a t-shirt of his back at you. He left the room. You curled up in bed, he sat out on the couch, both quiet, just blankly staring. It was a while later but Trent’s tornado of thoughts was paused momentarily when he heard a familiar loud laugh from outside the villa. When he started to see the shadows of everyone else outside coming back from the club, he got up and made his way to your room.
When he opened the door he felt sick. He wasn’t mad at you at all. He was upset that someone was talking about you, that someone else had been with you, touched you, knew you intimately when you were his. He was insatiably jealous. He looked at you and you looked so frail, you didn’t radiate the same glow you usually did, your body looked drained. As he quietly stepped further into the room, he could see that your body was shaking trying to keep your tears silent. He could hear you sniffle and gasp for air occasionally. He wanted to punch himself now, he couldn’t be the one that made you like this. This is not how you’re supposed to be. He was supposed to make you happy, keep you happy, and here you were miserable partly because of him. ‘Fuck’ he muttered as he heard everyone else finally in the house drunk, rowdy… happy. He took off all his clothes down to his boxers before he slid into the bed. He pulled the blankets up over himself and you. He didn’t want you to feel like he didn’t love you. He pulled your limp body towards him by your waist. You took a deep breath feeling his hands back on you. You knew he was there the second he opened the door but smelling him, feeling the heat off his skin made you cry even harder. You were falling apart in his arms so he just held you tighter. He pressed his lips to the back of your neck and held them there. He didn’t really want to kiss you yet, he was still upset but he needed to be that close to you. “I got you, I’m right here, your Ts got you.” He whispered as his lips moved over your skin. You started to calm in his arms more after hearing his voice. He held you so tight to his chest. If you weren’t having trouble breathing from all the crying you would’ve had trouble because of his hold. You dozed off eventually, exhausted physically and emotionally from the night. Once Trent knew you had fallen asleep he finally let himself close his eyes too.
You were so out of it you hadn’t noticed your phone had been blowing up with texts from Lauren. She was freaking out. She had an okay night knowing you’d be safe with Trent but she kind of cooled her jets with the whole Marcel and Jude decision. At the beginning of the night she had kind of thought she was going to hook up with Jude but then right after you left, Marcel was so comforting to her, she started to get confused so she opted for neither.
It was early morning when she woke up a little anxious now that the house was completely silent, she was more sober and worried sick about you. She also realized how absolutely thirsty she was so she slumped off her bed and made her way to the kitchen. She had packed pajamas that were sexy, girlie, cute, but in the drunken chaos of the night she ended up in a little bralette and tiny biker shorts. You would argue that calling them shorts would be a stretch. Her entire ass was out. Anyways, she crept into the kitchen quietly but she almost screamed when she felt someone’s hand wrap around hers on the handle of the refrigerator, their body coming behind hers.
“Jesus fucking Christ you scared the shit out of me!” She started to laugh because her heart was beating so fast. She turned her head to see the ever pretty, but currently very sleepy Jude’s face, lit by the refrigerator light.
“Sorry, Angel.” He spoke softly and low.
“What are you doing up?” She whispered, turning fully to him.
“Could ask you the same.” He cooed back.
“I’m worried obviously.” She shrugged at the obvious.
“They’ll be fine I think, Trenski’s just never had to deal with any of that with her before. They’re okay.” He attempted to reassure Lauren as his hand wrapped around her waist. She just hummed a little, taken aback by his hands movements, her heart still beating very fast. “Thought I was gonna spend a little more time with you tonight.”
“Oh yeah? That’s sweet. I’m sorry, I just needed to get to bed tonight when we got home, usually I’m up for a little after party.” Lauren spoke into the quiet kitchen, sexual tension thick in the air.
“I would’ve liked that. Maybe tomorrow… or today I guess.” Jude laughed
“Yeah. For sure. Well, I was going to go back to bed after I got my water.” Lauren held up the bottle for display with a cute sleepy smile.
“Yours or mine?” Jude cheekily laughed.
“Stop!” She slapped at his chest. He took the chance to slip his other hand around her, pulling her body flush against his.
“You want me to stop…” he whispered.
“No… no, I don’t think so.” Lauren whispered back. Jude’s face incredibly close to hers now, their noses touching.
“I told you how sexy I think you are, yeah?” He continued to whisper his hands coming to grab at her ass roughly. Kneading it. She moaned before pressing her lips against his.
“Is this a good idea?” She asked, feigning some sort of innocence.
“I don’t really care.” Jude spoke, his teeth biting onto her lip pulling it back with him. Their hands all over each other. A proper make out ensued as the sun began to rise.
“Tomorrow… your bed.” Lauren moaned out muffled by another kiss.

By Primus’s Will pt.2
An Original Optimus Prime x AFAB!Reader by Blu<3
A/N: Thank you all so much for the support on the last Chapter!! It means so much to me that y’all enjoy what I’m writing!
You closed your eyes and fell asleep, only slightly annoyed by the sound of helicopter blades above your house.
When you woke up to banging on your front door you groaned and tried to ignore it. “This is the police! If you are home we’d like to ask you a few questions regarding some events that took place last night!”
You kicked off your sheets and pulled on a loose pair of shorts so you didn’t greet the officer in nothing but your tshirt. “I’m coming one second!! I needed to put on pants!”
“Good morning officer, how can I help you?” You said to the policeman standing on your porch. “Good morning, I was wondering if you had any idea what took place last night to cause that large crater, or if you’ve seen anything strange since then.”
You stared at the officer dumbfounded. “Uh no sir I haven’t. I figured it was just a piece of satellite or something that had fell after all the helicopters came by. Is something going on?”
The officer shook his head and handed you a business card. “Nope we just wanted to make sure it wasn’t some teens blowing stuff up for fun or anything. If you do see anything strange again just give us a call and we’ll come check it out for you!”
You nodded and wished the officer a good day, closing the door and looking out the window at the crater from last night.
‘What the hell was that? If it was a piece of satellite like I thought then the officer wouldn’t have came out because he would’ve known about it.’
You stared at it for a second before walking out the front door, slipping on some sandals you kept on the porch. You walked up to the hole in the ground and looked down into it, the ground looked burnt, and there were splatters of what looked like blue liquid on the ground. ‘What the fuck?’
You walked towards your father’s shed, going to see if there were any gloves or something he had so you could see what this liquid was. His shed was full of old cars, the shed was more of a barn with a cement floor. It reeked of old oil and must from how long some of the vehicles had sat in there. You felt like you were being watched as you pushed the door open all the way to let in some daylight and help the smell out of the building.
As you turned back to face inside the shed you saw a vehicle you didn’t recognize. Your father was a trucker, his old semi sat in the back of the shed, rusted and dusty. But next to it sat a new one that you swore hadn’t been there before. The truck also had some wear and tear to it, and looked like it had some damage to part of the body.
You brushed it off, walking towards the giant tool shelf your dad had and rummaging around for some gloves. You grabbed a pair and turned around, noticing some of the blue liquid from earlier underneath the mysterious semi.
Your father and you had never had the best relationship, he wasn’t mean to you but you two just kept some distance, especially after your mother had passed, so you weren’t sure if this truck was actually new or if he brought it home and you just never noticed.
“What the hell? I mean I’ll take a look real quick I guess.” Luckily your dad had taught you a few things about cars so if it was a simple leak you could probably fix it, but you wondered how the liquid had gotten outside.
You got down on the ground flashing a light on the underside of the semi, tilting your head in confusion when you were met with what looked like a robotic head. You knew some people modded their cars out with crazy designs, but your dad never showed you anything like this. And even he would've been excited enough to drag you out here to look at the cool design on the car. You reached out and rubbed your hand across the cheek of the face on the car, the cold metal already helping you cool down against the desert heat. What you didn't expect was for its eyes to open, a groan coming out from it's lips. You screamed and quickly got out from under the vehicle, running towards the tool box to grab a wrench and defend yourself. "Please human! I mean no harm."
You heard the voice coming from you began to shake, your hands trembling in fear. "W-Who are you? What are you doing in my garage?" The semi began to transform, kneeling onto one knee and bending so he could fit inside the garage. "My name is Optimus Prime, I am the leader of a faction known as the Autobots. I have came to protect your planet from Megatron, the leader of the Decepticons."
You held the wrench firm in your hands, glaring at him and trying to keep your hands from trembling anymore. "What are you doing in my garage? Why are you here in my home?" He moved his hand from where it held his side, groaning again. "I'm sorry for intruding human.. I am hurt pretty badly, I was just here to seek refuge and possibly patch myself up. There are few others of my kind on this planet. One of them could fix me up." You lowered the wrench, taking a small step forward to look at his wound. "I-I could give it a shot, as long as you promise not to stir up any trouble in my home." He shook his head, placing his hand tight over his side again. "You know nothing of my anatomy. And I cannot promise your safety while I am here. But I'll keep you as safe as I can until Ratch-" Optimus coughed and some of the blue liquid from earlier fell from his mouth. "Optimus, sir, you're going to die if you don't let me try to help you. And if what you say is true then Megatron will not be able to be stopped by us."
He groaned and sat on the ground, leaning back against the wall. "Fine, but you should be wary Human. I've sent a distress signal to my medic Ratchet. He will be on his way. You can keep me patched up until then." You nodded and grabbed some tools you thought you may need, beginning to work on him. "Thank you human." You looked up at him, still nervous over the fact that an alien robot sat in your garage. "Y/N. You can call me Y/N" He nodded and closed his eyes, continuing to let you try and work on his side.

We’ve Met Before Masterlist || Chapter 1 || Chapter 2 ||
‘he seems so lonely’
Nobara drags you closer towards the Frat house’s entrance as the soles of your shoes scuff against the ground from your resistance. You feel heat on your feet, the friction of rubber and cement underneath you. You swat at Nobara’s hand— ceasing your actions immediately as your friend’s sharp brown eyes meet yours in a stern glare.
“Come on you loser, have fun for once!” Nobara cranks.
“This isn’t fun for me, Noba,” you say, your tone low and loose. The sadness you’d been feeling all day hadn’t gone away, and you doubted that a party would do the trick. Parties are full of heated but temporary connections, and you would rather stay in your single dorm room and wallow sadly, instead of awkwardly wander ‘round a noisy frat party.
“You’re such a wet blanket. Drop the attitude and just maybe tonight you’ll find somebody who treats you right!”
Your depressive state is overtaken by irritation. “Seriously? There won’t be a decent guy at a fucking frat party. In fact—” You scowl at Nobara, “It’s just the kind of place Sukuna would be at, did you forget?”
Nobara’s gaze softens a little upon seeing involuntary tears spring up in your eyes. Your friend speaks, her voice a level nicer, “I managed to reach Yuji a few hours ago, over the phone, and he said Sukuna would be gone this weekend, for the football team’s away game.”
Relief melts into your body like smooth, sweet chocolate on the tongue. “Thank god,” you whispered, memories of your awful ex spinning violently in your mind…
One week ago:
“Sukuna?” You called out, stepping into the men’s bathroom of Jujutsu East’s dormitory wing. Your voice was completely inaudible though, the booming music obscuring any trace your existence— and that’s when you heard it, underneath the muffling chorus:
Moaning. A guy’s moan. A rich, low, seductive voice cursed, “Fuck, doll-face, you’re sucking me off so well, hmm?”
You knew that lilting, rumbling voice anywhere.
You froze, stiffening in shock and denial. You listened: A rustle of curtains, the metal rings clinking. —A thud, a body pushed against a wall. A wet noise, followed by slapping noises.
“Mm, ahh, ooh fuck, Sukuna!”
“Doll-face—ugh—Shut up. Can’t have nobody hear us, you dumb slut.”
You felt your legs turn into jelly, but you stood still, unable to move. Musical groans played in the air around you. Just yesterday, you’d been the one to pull those sweet melodies from him.
—
Sure, you knew from early on in your relationship that Sukuna wasn’t the one for marriage. But before Sukuna you’d been isolated, stuck in an abusive relationship of six years. When you’d met Sukuna, you were exhausted from your miserable ex Charlie, who just tolerated you.
In Charlie’s eyes, you couldn’t do anything right— that was the message you gleaned from every sigh and every complaint Charlie had for you. With every meal you cooked, with every conversation you two had, and with every gift you brought him, you disappointed him, daily. Throughout the years with Charlie, you reasoned that he was just a sad person who expected you to fix all his misery, and you felt pity for him. So you tried to help him, fix his mindset, and show him love. You desperately wanted him to be happy. But after six long years, you couldn’t do it any longer— because nothing was ever enough, and you couldn’t keep up with all his criticisms and tantrums— you didn’t make him happy, and you didn’t make him proud. You were a useless loser in his eyes.
—
You felt yourself flinch in the memory, doom crawling on your skin from how badly six years with him had fucked you up.
After that relationship had ended, you needed to feel wanted again. You needed the warmth of somebody’s skin and touch, the soft praise of somebody kind.
And Sukuna didn’t seem that bad at first— he had actually been so good. He answered your calls every night and listened to you rant about your day; he asked about your hobbies, let you pick out movies to watch together every week, bought you baked goods just because, and he picked you up whenever you wanted to hang out.
But it was like he had two sides to him. There was one that was encouraging when you felt low and insecure, the guy who held you tightly against his large, sturdy chest, whispering promises that he’d “make all the pain go away.” The Sukuna who told you that you were strong and brave to get out of your past shitfire of a relationship… And then there was the Sukuna that eyeballed other girls when you were with him, the Sukuna whose reputation preceded him (“he’s a player, __, get out while you can”), the Sukuna who was now dick-deep in another girl. Turns out, he was also a misfire of a relationship. A liar.
—
A long groan echoed through the marble walls of the men’s bathroom, and the slapping noises were no more.
“Alright, get out of here, I’ve got to get ready for the date with my main bitch tonight.”
You heard a huff before the whish of the curtain sounded, and that’s when you bolted.
Sukuna had blown up your phone for days after, but you’d avoided him like the plague for the past week. He stopped texting just after a couple of days, which really showed you how little you’d meant to him. Still, you couldn’t bear the thought of him seeing you, even in passing.
—
“Hey, girl, you alright?” Nobara’s voice is suddenly loud, and you come back to the moment, seeing her wave her hands in front of your face. You swallow thickly, before blinking. Fat tears are let loose and run down your face.
“No. I wanna go back to the dorms,” you croak out. Nobara stares at you for a couple of seconds before her gaze hardens.
“No. If I let you do that, you’ll just sulk all night. I won’t let that happen.”
You glare at Nobara. “Look, I know you’re just trying to help, but—”
Before you can finish your sentence, Nobara tugs you through the open door, and you fall forward, bumping into somebody—
“Hey-” you hear a raspy, low voice.
When you look up, dark brown eyes mesmerize you. A pale skinned guy is looking down at you with a confused expression, two ponytails poking out from his head cutely. Most strikingly, he has some rough eyebags, and purple lines run down and across his face. Tattoos? you wonder as you drink in his face. Something is different, though, about this interaction— your heart seems to beat a bit too quickly, because something about him seems way too familiar. Is it his eyes? You’re staring into them, pools of smooth darkness that murmur quietly, simmering with secrets you want to listen to; He seems so lonely— You swear, you’ve seen these eyes before—
You stand completely still, enamored, as your eyes dart across his face, absorbing the face of this mysterious stranger.
You feel like the other half of your heart is standing right in front of you.
A couple of seconds have passed when you realize that he’s been studying you right back.
You snap out of your trance, blinking quickly and looking away, Whoa. That was weird. I’ve never taken in somebody’s face like this before—! Wait, he was curious about me, too, right—? Your heart flutters at the thought.
“Wow, you guys really need to fuck each other tonight,” You hear Nobara say, and you whip to face her, wide-eyed in horror, just to see your friend smirking at you, a mischevious look on her face.
“Noba, shut the hell up, oh my god,” you gasp, and Nobara runs away, leaving you alone with the mysterious stranger. You watch her leave and squirm internally, anxious, before turning to look back at the guy. “I’m sorry for staring! I’m __. I just, erm, you just— do you— do I know you?”
He’s staring at you, in disbelief, almost like he’s looking at the fountain of youth. You both continue to stare at each other, and though it should be an awkward moment, you feel like you can feel what he’s feeling, like you know what he’s thinking: Who are you? What are you to me?
His voice comes back deep and melodic, “I’m Choso. Choso Kamo. I don’t remember us meeting before. But–”
A shrill scream pierces the air before Choso can get another word out. You whip your head to the origin of the noise, and see a girl bloody on the floor, torn limbs by her side, two arms laying next to her. Your eyes blow wide in shock: she’s facing the ceiling, screaming her head off, and people are already rushing past you, running towards the exit.
It hits you like a truck, pure terror pulsing through your entire being— This is one of those crimes that have been happening lately, where people have been having their limbs torn off mysteriously. The girl continues her blood curdling screams as you stare in horror, your head spinning. Your heart is racing a mile a minute and yet you just— can’t— move— No, no, no, no —
You notice now that Choso is gone too, probably out the door and halfway down the lawn at this point. So much for love at first sight. Blood rushes through your ears, muffling out your surroundings, and your skin runs cold, the vicious sight before you keeping you frozen. The world feels like it's been flipped upside down. You were never one to stomach violence.
Is this where I die? You think.
Before you can do anything to get yourself to safety, you’ve blacked out.

After like 140 chapters and an RPF jumpscare, we finally get a continuation of 152's impromptu father-son therapy session and start digging into the real deal no bullshit Kamiki Hikaru's brain and his relationship with Ai. A lot of the stuff laid out here are things that I had personally speculated about in prior posts and it once again feels really satisfying to see that I've been keyed into what the series has been laying out for its characters now we're getting some answers.
Before digging into the meat of things, the usual shout out to Mengo's art for this chapter. I am repeating myself on this point to the extent that I say "i know I say mengo's art is really good every chapter, but" every chapter but holy fuck, dawg. The expression work, especially on Kamiki and Airi is so fucking good and the way it contrasts the movie's portrayal of those events is insanely effective. I am Once Again begging the universe to conspire events such that Mengo draws a horror manga someday pleeeeeease I have been so good
kamiki's production house being called EYES is so on the nose it looped back to being genuinely hilarious to me.
Honestly this chapter is soooooo hard to talk about w/o me wanting to just break down every single line of dialogue in it and I already know i'm gonna go sicko mode talking about the flashback so I'll broad strokes it for now. What I WILL say is that Hikaru fucking quoting the opening monologue of the series got me right in the gut. These last two chapters have been really laying it on thick with the volume 1 callbacks and while this too is ridiculously on the nose it did make me start barking like a fucking dog so who's to say if it's really good or bad.
Hikaru's POV here in general is just fascinating. It's so juicy finally getting some insight into his weird little brain right from the man himself. The way he's characterized here - or rather, the way Hikaru chooses to characterize himself - is extremely compelling. He seems resigned and weary, almost - surrendering himself to the role of the despicable villain with a sort of wry self-awareness that got a bit of a dark chuckle out of me.
What's most interesting though is the final exchange between the two of them. Hikaru dismissing the idea that Ai ever loved him is understandable but what really jumped out to me was Aqua's respose to this - he honestly seems like… not just confused but almost mad that Hikaru supposedly still doesn't understand Ai's true feelings.
also. can i just say. i earnestly and genuinely thought the DVDs had been completely forgotten and were never going to come back up. what a jumpscare.
real bold of aqua to say this is nonfiction after the whole rpf debacle btw
We transition at last into an actual honest to god flashback to his past from Hikaru's actual POV, the likes of which I didn't think we'd ever get lol. I take Hikaru's lack of quibbles with his portrayal in the movie and that the flashback begins at Airi and Uehara's funeral as an indication from the story that 15YL's portrayal of Hikaru and those events is true enough that it doesn't need to relitigate them and thus, we can analyze this flashback with those events as context.
Something I couldn't help but notice immediately is that Hikaru's hoshigans start off as white this chapter. Given the future/hope (white) futurelessness/despair (black) dichotomy the last handful of chapters seem to have cemented, I think this makes a lot of sense in representing that while Hikaru is certainly not over his trauma, he seems able to conceptualize a future for himself now that he isn't bound to Airi; he has escaped her grasp. Or so he's able to believe, for a moment.
God, Hikaru's little meltdown once he spots Taiki is so heartbreaking. Kindaichi obviously means well, but his words must have sounded like a horrifying curse to Hikaru - the idea that for the rest of his life, he would never escape what Airi did to him.
hikaru begging ai to save him is soooooooo…… augugugugugh. this is all in line with what i'd predicted for their relationship but seeing it actually on page is such a gut punch. I just feel so fucking sorry for both these kids - both of them so desperately hurt and trying to heal and struggling in their own ways.
Because like… man! Not to be like "this rape victim's trauma is so hard for this other person to deal with" but… yeah, I'm really glad that even in just the framing, OnK makes it clear what a tremendous weight and pressure this is on Ai. I've talked before about the potential for her need to love and be loved to lead her into unhealthy and codependent dynamics and I think the HKAI relationship (as seen from Hikaru's POV) is exactly the sort of thing I was imagining.
With that in mind, even though we haven't seen her side of the story (YET……. IF WE GET AI POV NEXT WEEK AUUUUAUAU CAN YOU EVE N IMAGINE), it's not hard for me to imagine why Ai might have needed to withdraw. Because the sort of love Hikaru wants from her - something utterly all consuming, all encompassing, a world containing only two people and shutting out everything else - is not something she can or wants to provide. She's too full of compassionate curiosity for other people to give her love exclusively to one person alone… especially if a certain two troublemaking twins are already in the mix.
Admittedly this is as far as I can go in my analysis of this bit until we actually see how the breakup as a whole went down because I am admittedly still very confused as to the timeline here lol. The impression I'd always gotten was that Ai and Hikaru broke up before the twins were born, but the pacing of the flashback places it after Airi died, which we know wasn't super long before the Dome concert but I feel like Hikaru looks way too fucking young to be like a 17-19yo person here…. so who even knows. Hopefully we'll get some clarification next chapter. In ether case, I do think the twins threw a wrench into the HKAI relationship one way or another so I guess we'll see.
The fact that we're actually getting the real deal HKAI breakup happening on-panel also makes me feel a bit less insane about the Movie Arc skipping over that in recording (though I still ain't ever gonna forgive not focusing on how everyone felt about filming Ai's death even when we do see the final product). That said, I do still have issues with it that I talked about in an ask just the other day so I'll just repeat what I said: "Not only is [the HKAI breakup and the 'I can't love you'] line given a huge amount of weight, so is the fact that Aqua and Ruby had seemingly misinterpreted or even actively twisted it. If that’s the case then I’d say it’s even MORE important for us to have seen what 15YL’s version of events looked like so the contrast with the real thing can hit all the harder."
We already saw that with this chapter having a page very strongly echoing a similar one from the Movie Arc, a direct representation of the real version of events the movie fictionalized and it hits like a truck. I mentioned it up top but fuck, man. Hikaru and Airi's faces here are incredible. Hikaru's blank, innocent expression contrasted with that vile grin on Airi's face with her hair splayed everywhere… if Frill's portrayal of her was like a snake, the real thing made me think of some kind of spider.
That same page also seems to imply that Hikaru didn't only suffer abuse under Airi but may have suffered CSA prior to meeting her that caused him to become hypersexual. This is, unfortunately, in line with the way a lot of CSA victims will cope with their abuse and it really surprised me to see this aspect of it portrayed the way it was with Hikaru - already an exceptionally rare sympathetic and tasteful portrayal of a male CSA victim's experiences in manga. I've said over and over that I'm really impressed with how OnK is handling this aspect of the story but it really does continue to catch me by surprise.
Hikaru only ever to hear 'I love you' as a lie, while Ai can only ever say it as a lie… ouuughhh that's juicy.
Moving on a bit, the Ruby/Hikaru parallels are still going strong… Hikaru's insistence that so long as he has Ai he can endure anything very strongly echoes Ruby's speech in 143 about how if she has Gorou, her oshi, then that's all she needs. This means Aqua/Ai parallel stonks are on the rise which makes me very happy. I also hope this is a lead in to more directly addressing something that has been quiet subtext for a while - how destructive the pressure of being someone's singular saviour can be and how unhealthy this dynamic is, even for the person being saved. The idea that isolation and a lacking support system causes dysfunction is something we see sort of gestured at across the series so I'd love to see OnK explore codependency more explicitly through this angle, too.
No break next week…! Going by the editor's note in the JP version of the chapter, it looks like we'll be continuing this flashback and getting some of Ai's perspective so I'm really looking forward to it. After what a slog to keep up with the Movie Arc turned into, it feels sooooo fucking refreshing to be getting material I feel excited and energized to chew on. It sure did take until the last arc to explore some of this though, huh………..
hey ai. why did you break up with your boyfriend while you were brushingyour teeth. are you okay.

[CHAPTER 4]
SYNOPSIS: Gojo Satoru, a big time artist, who’s known for leaving a trail of broken hearts in his wake wherever he goes. And you, the lead guitarist of an upcoming band, who’s absolutely certain that no one will ever love you. Through an accident in which you happened to kiss Gojo in a frantic state, you both decide, via convenience alone—and zero regard for both of your managers—to pull a fake dating stunt what could go wrong? Any press is good press…right?
PREVIOUS : MASTERLIST : NEXT
You twisted your neck and looked up. And up. You were not exactly short he was just massive.
“Oh. Uhm. Hey.”
“Is everything okay?” He said it looking into your eyes. He said it in a low, intimate tone. Like you were alone. Like Maki wasn’t stood mere cementers away. He said it in a way that should have made you uncomfortable, but it didn’t. For some unexplainable reason, his presence in the room soothed you. Like two seconds ago you hadn’t been freaking out. Maybe two types of unease neutralised each other? It sounded like a fascinating research topic. Maybe someone should look into that. Maybe you should excuse yourself and run a google search about it. Honestly, anything but this whole situation would be much nicer. Maybe you’d expire on the spot, that’s how you’d get out.
“Yes. Yes, everything is great. Maki and I were just…chatting. About our weekends and stuff.”
Gojo looked at Maki, as though he was realising she was in the room for the first time. He acknowledged her by giving her one of those nods guys give each other in passing. His hand slid lower on your spine just as Maki’s eyes widened.
“Nice to meet you, Maki, I’ve heard a lot about you.” Gojo said, and he was good at this, you had to admit. You were sure that at Maki’s angle it looked like he was groping you, but in fact he was…not. You could barely even feel his hand on you.
Maybe just a little. The warmth and slight pressure and—
“Nice to meet you too.” Maki looked thunderstruck. Like she might pass out. “Well-um. I was just about to leave. N/N I’ll text you later when um yeah—”
And with that she was gone, before you could even say anything. Which was good, honestly. You didn’t have to come up with any more lies. But also this was slightly less good as it was now just you and Gojo. Standing way too close. You would have payed good money to say that you were the first to step away, however that was not the case. The embarrassing truth was that Gojo was the first to put distance between you. Stepping back to give you the space you needed, then some more.
“Is everything okay?” He asked again, his tone was still fairly soft. Not something you expected.
“Yes. Yes, I just—” you waved your hands around. “Thank you.”
“Did you hear what she said about Friday?”
“I did that’s why I…” He looked at his hand—the one that had been on your lower back mere second ago—and you almost immediately understood.
“Thank you.” You repeated. Because Satoru Gojo might be a known-ass, but you were feeling pretty damn grateful for him. “Oh, also I couldn’t help but notice I’ve not had any agents or cops come to my place and arrest me on the spot.”
His eyebrows furrowed and the corner of his mouth twitch, minimally. “Is that so?”
You nodded, “Which makes me think that you haven’t filed a complaint. Even though it would have been totally within your rights, so, thank you. And for stepping in just now—you saved me a lot of trouble.”
He stared at you for a long moment, suddenly looking like he did when people got facts mixed up or said something he personally didn’t agree with. “You shouldn’t need someone to step in.”
You stiffened, right. Known-ass. “Well I was going to handle it myself. It’s not as if I asked you—”
“You shouldn’t have to lie about your relationship status.” He paused then continued. “Especially not to your friend so that she can date your boyfriend guilt-free.” Another pause. “That’s not how friendship works, last time I checked.”
So he had been listening when your spewed your life at him. “It’s not like that.” He lifted an eyebrow and you raised a hand in defence. “Yuta wasn’t really my boyfriend and Maki didn’t ask me for anything. I’m not like some sort of victim, I just want my friend to be happy.”
“By lying to her.” He added, dryly.
“Well yeah but-but-well she thinks we’re dating.” You blurted out. God the implications were painfully ridiculous. Too ridiculous to bare.
“Wasn’t that the point?”
“Yeah.” You nodded suddenly remembering the cup in your had. You took a sip of coffee. It was still warm. That conversation with Maki couldn’t have lasted any longer than 5 minutes however it felt more like 5 years. “Yeah. I guess it was. Oh I’m Y/N L/N incase you still want to file that complaint. I’m with Freak—”
“I know who you are.”
“Oh.” Maybe he had looked you up then. You tried to imagine him combing through the different people working with this record company. Your headshot had been taken a while ago so it wasn’t exactly accurate anymore. Before you had become fully aware of what you were in for, when you actively tried to look good. Taming your hair better and actually taking your makeup off before going to bed. Before you were so sleep deprived it could honestly be a little life threatening. Before the thoughts that you may never actually be able to make it as a guitarist.
“Okay.”
“I’m Satoru Gojo by the way.”
You burst into laughter. Essentially in his face. And then regretted it when you noticed his confused expression. As though he seriously thought you didn’t know who he was. As though he wasn’t one of the most popular solo artist of the century. The modesty was not at all like Gojo. You cleared your throat.
“Right. I know who you are, Gojo.”
“You should probably call me Satoru.”
“Oh. Oh god no.” That would be too-that would be dead wrong. To you it felt like overstepping. He was such a superior to you it felt dead wrong. “I couldn’t—”
“If Maki happens to be around.”
“Oh right.” That made sense. “Thank you, I hadn’t thought of that.” Or of anything else really. Your brain had stopped working properly 3 days ago when you decided kissing him to save your own ass was a good idea. “If that’s um okay with you. I’m going to go this whole thing is kind of stressful and—” if you were having it your way, you be at home, watching Ninja Warrior or RuPaul’s Drag race for the rest of the day while eating any junk you could find laying around your apartment.
He nodded, “I’ll walk you wherever your going.”
“God. I’m not that distraught.”
“In case we pass Maki.”
“Oh.” It was, you had to admit, a really kind offer. Surprisingly so, since it came from Satoru “I’m too good for everyone” Gojo. You knew he was a dick. So you couldn’t quite fathom why today he was…not. He was actually being fairly kind. Maybe your own appalling behaviour was at blame since it made anyone look good in comparison. “Thanks but no need.”
You could tell he didn’t want to insist but did anyway. “I’d feel better if you let me walk you to where your going.”
“I don’t know where I’m going.” I had had the most drastic fuck up of my life it’s no wonder I’m a little disoriented. You didn’t bother adding.
“Well why did you come here?”
You fell silent for a moment before it finally came back to you. “Oh, I have a meeting for some music video.” You rolled your eyes at the mere thought of having to shoot a music video.
He opened his mouth. Then closed it. And opened it again.
You kissed that mouth, Y/N. And it was a good kiss.
“Well what floor?”
You shrugged. “Well what floor are we on now?” You’d definitely lost all your barring. You almost completely forgot where you even were. It was only the midday and you’d completely lost it.
For the second time in a week, you’d been in an awkward predicament with Gojo and for the second time that week you couldn’t handle being around him a second longer.
“I’ll see you around, okay?”
His chest rose as he went to sigh heavily. “Yeah. Okay.” Then the sigh. What sounded like disappointment?
It didn’t matter, the with that you got out of the room as fast as you could.

“C’mon, give me a smile,” Pete beams, his words tailing a slight slur as you make someone else’s Manhattan.
“I think it’s time for you to go, Mr. Brenner,” you giggle dismissively, flipping your hair and shaking up the cocktail mixer.
“I wonder how much sweeter my name would sound if you were underneath me,” he grins and lifts his eyes at you. You ignore the heat in the pit of your stomach, not wanting to surrender to his smarmy charm.
Pete Brenner doesn’t give up easily, you’ll give him that.
“I’m sure your wife is happy that you’re always here, trying to bring me home instead of spending time with her,” you nod with a glance towards his left hand. A waitress comes over, picking up the next round of drinks.
“I’ve told ya, she has her fun and I have mine.”
“Cause that’s what every woman loves to hear. Woo me even more, Brenner,” you laugh, turning around and getting started on the next drink.
“Your ass looks amazing in those shorts.”
You laugh as you call over your shoulder, “I’m ordering you a cab.”
“I can take myself,” he mutters with an exasperated sigh. You know he’s pulling out his wallet, frustrated that you’re not leaving with him again.
“We go through the same motions every time, Pete. I don’t want you driving home drunk.”
“You refuse to sleep with me, but you care about my well being? I think you’re finally startin’ to warm up to me.”
“I don’t sleep with married men, Pete. Find a new dream to chase. You know the drill, the cab will be here in ten.”
Pete Brenner came stumbling into your life about a year and a half ago, and he’s been a character since day one. He was down on his luck, drinking until he could barely stand, refusing help from anyone, always ending with the same mantra every night:
“I’ve made this fucking far on my own, I can make it to my own fucking house!”
No matter how much you pushed, he wouldn’t accept help from you. He always refused service from everyone except you. At first he didn’t say anything, he just watched you and let his eyes roam over your body. He never said out loud that he wanted you, but he didn’t exactly go out of his way to hide it either. He was so obvious he never needed to say it explicitly. The glint of his gold wedding band always caught your attention under the sparkling lights of the nightclub, but seeing as he spent every night there until closing, you didn’t think it made much of a difference.
Until one night, eight months ago.
“There she is! My favorite girl!” he beamed, a cocky smile cemented on his lips.
The woman sauntering next to him didn’t seem to think too highly of the nickname he called you.
“I’ll take a bourbon, and this sweet little thing next to me will have a Strawberry Daiquiri,” he told you, though his eyes never left your chest.
“Oh? Wedding anniversary?” you half smiled as you tried to put on your workplace happy face even though you mentally thought to yourself ‘he can’t be that sleazy to bring her to this dump on their wedding anniversary.’
“Got a new job, sweetheart,” he smirked. You didn’t miss the mischievous shine in his eyes in the club’s half light.
He was a bold mother fucker to bring his wife along just to flirt with you in plain view of her. Not many men had that much audacity when it came to you.
“I’m Y/N,” you offered with a smile.
You genuinely pitied the woman.
“Tina,” she responded with a plastic smile.
Big boobs, micro-waist, big fake blonde hair, and Pete had ordered her a strawberry daiquiri. She fit the description of most “Tina’s” that came into the club. However, the large rock on her ring finger was nothing to scoff at.
“Oh, don’t pout, honey,” Pete taunted her. “This is what you wanted, right? Me to get a brand new important job and show you off? That’s what you’ve been bitchin about for months, isn’t it? So smile, would ya? You got ya wish.”
Someone was feeling prickly that night.
“First round of drinks are on the house. Congrats, Pete,” you smiled as you set both drinks down.
“Keep ‘em comin’, sweetheart,” he winked at you, handing you a hundred.
While it may have not been anything new to you (Pete always tipped generously), Tina’s eyes went wide and you didn’t miss the way her cheeks burned and blushed with anger.
You wanted to stay as far away from them as the night allowed.
You happily took shots with some of your regulars as the night went on and evened out. Your friends started showing up for their shifts, which helped your sour mood from earlier in the day (even though your ex-fiancee showed up outside of your apartment to harass you yet again). The more you drank, the more you started to dance along with the music; which meant Pete couldn’t keep his gaze off you.
“Why are you single?” Pete asked once his wife got up to go to the bathroom.
“You don’t strike me as the cruel type, Mr. Brenner,” you grinned as you made him another drink.
“Curiosity doesn’t equate to cruelty.”“You’re still here with your wife.”
“She’s in the bathroom.”
“Why’d you bring her tonight?”
“You heard me, this is what she wanted,” he cynically scoffed.
“They’re a lot nicer clubs than this one.”
“Can’t all be that nice if you don’t work there, sweetie.”
You both looked at each other for a moment before you heard, “Darlin’!” coming from the other end of the bar.
“Comin’ Charlie,” you laughed, breaking the stare with him, and shook your head. You used the bar to push yourself off away, down to it’s other end while Pete sipped the last of his remaining drink.
You didn’t need glasses to see that Pete Brenner was an attractive man, and he was important...well, he did his best to imply his importance (as if it would get him far with you). You’d be a liar if you said you hadn’t thought about going a few rounds with him in the bedroom, but you didn’t sleep with married men.
No matter how hard they tried, you had a set of both personal and professional rules that you abided by.
For the rest of the night, you stayed away from Pete and his wife unless they needed a refill. It was almost as if Tina was trying to make him regret his choice of celebration because she was throwing back her drinks like they were water. The night went smoothly enough, nevertheless, until you went outside for a smoke break.
“You should really quit those things,” came the voice of the last man you wanted to see or hear from.
“What do you want, Mark?”
“I come in peace, Sweet Thing,” he laughed, putting his hands up.
You’d always hated the nickname.
“Didn’t get enough arguing this morning? What else could you possibly have to say?” you questioned while you exhaled your frustration.
“You know you miss me, baby.”
“I miss the peace I had in my life before I met you.”
“You’re still working at this dump?”
“I have bills to pay.”
“You know I’d be more than happy to take care of you.”“Don’t want it. Nor do I want anything from you,” you snapped with a growl.
“Yet you drove yourself here in the car I bought for you,” he sneered, nodding in the direction of where the car was parked.
“Take the fucking car back then, Mark. If it means you’ll leave me the fuck alone, take back every single thing you ever gave me.”
Snickering, he made his way to you and grabbed your arm saying,“don’t be bitter when I know just how sweet you’re capable of being.”
With a scoff, you threw down your cigarette and bludgeoned it, “fuck this.”
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going? Enough with the goddamn attitude, Sweet Thing-”
“Let me go!”
“You’re coming with me-”
“Let her go!” you heard Pete yell as he quickly made his way over to you, leaving his wife to stumble to their car all alone.
She looked slack jawed from Pete to you, before her stare turned venomous and settled on you. It’s just what you needed on top of everything else; his prized Barbie play-toy thinking you were fucking her husband.
Great.
