I think Gotham city would be one of the coolest cities in the world for an architect to study. The city has its foundation in a Gothic/Gothic revival-esque style, but the frequent bombings, flooding, fires, explosions of plants, and occasional natural reclamation has led to massive parts of the city being reconstructed, usually retaining the city's classic style, but with more and more experimental and innovative buildings from all the PhDs running around the city, eager to redesign it to be stronger and more cost-effective. Add that to safety codes and zoning being a total mess and Gotham City totally throws up the world's most odd, occasionally aesthetically disastrous (don't worry it gets blown up soon) buildings at record speed. But one way or another, the city always returns to a variant of its original form.

Curtwen Week Day 6: Happy Ending

Making a birthday cake for a friend tonight (something I haven't done for a while), and I forgot how much I love baking & cake decorating. I'll post pics when I'm done, I'm very excited. 🥰
#archivist talk#the archivist regrets starting nursing school#the archivist#the archivist is a tad stressed but also this fun thing is happening so that's just dandy#i think i might have to give up on the kitchen being a place where one can sit and eat#i never use it for that personally#not because i don't want to#it just lacks the space for it and i don't have a real dining room#(my kitchen is long and narrow)#if i can figure out a good reasonable way to re-arrange the living room such that i can have both a living room AND a small dining corner#i may do that#however given the amount of bookshelves i've got going on & all my other lusts i imagine this won't happen#le sigh#i love my apartment so much#i think if i had a small dining area/dining room that would make the kitchen perfect#and if i had a den that i could put my desk/file cabinet/all adulting work in#that would free up my bedroom to be even more coquettish & focused#and also entirely comfortable#that would change a lot actually goddamn#but alas this building is not going to change#so maybe if one day i could afford a 2 bedroom that had a den .... bonus points if it has wood floors#and those arched doorways that i so love#i would be in heaven#i have to finish nursing school so i can pay for things with less stres#and also help my siblings more#and then maybe so i can get a nice home that would be super cool#but for now i must simply chill as they say

girl help I started writing down oc thoughts and have started contemplating the logistics of how a city carved into the walls of a ravine would have access to fresh water
#rye.txt#MaVst#'you should do some worldbuilding' I said to myself#'it'll be easy' i said#'just write down the little thoughts you've had floating around'#I AM A FOOL#there are so many bullet points in this fuckign document#and they're all devoted to the minutiae of how the city I have in my mind would function#how the very terrain would influence the culture#couldn't just do a normal city on flat terrain noooo I had to include homes carved into rock#anyway im pretending im upset but this is so much fun#I loveee getting to think about how tiny details all affect each other and influence the greater whole#it's like problem solving but I get to make the solutions as fun and fantastical as I want#if my ocs are my silly little dolls to play pretend with#then the worldbuilding is like getting to build the doll house#which is just as fun imo#anyway im gonna give the capital city an abandoned under-city that's no longer habitable now that the original royal family is#no longer in power#it used to be lit with the light magic of the ruler that was amplified by the crown#but now it's almost impossible to navigate and so big that your torch is liable to burn out before you can explore much at all#and without a light source it's completely pitch black darkness#<- see stuff like this is so fun to think about and I can just slap it onto my world because it's cool

cuz its the little details and dedication he puts to each build that makes it so special to me, the history and storytelling behind each build while still giving it a purpose and function and how much genuine love he has for it, even when we give him shit about him downplaying his own abilities he's proud of what he's built

can't wait til I start this stupid job so I won't have to be doing commissions all the fucking time to buy groceries, this shut sucks the joy out of art so much. I wanna be drawing ultrakill stuff & personal art & doing crafts & reading books but every time I sit down to do something for me I'm thinking about the fact that I should be doing commissions. I'm so glad I didn't go into art as an actual career, I would hate myself so much forever
#i just want art to be able to be a hobby again aaaaa#i can talk about it here bc nobody who's commissioning me knows this is my blog. ive gotten like 2 commissions off tumblr ever lmfao#and tbh i am tired of pretending to be enthusiastic about drawing other peoples ocs. im so tired of customer service voice#im not gonna lie most of the time i do not care about your blorbo. i'm glad you're having fun im happy for u but i just need money#im happy you like my art enough to pay for it but im so TIRED#being self employed sucks like yeah i can choose my own hours but im also always thinking 'i could be working now' and i HATE IT#i don't wanna make it sound like i'm gonna starve or anything I can ask my parents for money if i really need to#im not like in genuine poverty or the biggest victim of capitalism here i just have a family that's deeply unpleasant to interact with#but im starting a half-time job at the university physics department at the end of the month and that'll be enough to cover Being Alive!!!#and will also hopefully be something i am genuinely interested in & enjoy with people who seem relatively cool#(they're gonna let me into the machine shop!! im gonna get to build things!! they were genuinely interested in my robotics experience!!)#so once art stops being the Thing Temporarily Feeding Me i'm hoping i'll be able to draw more fun stuff again. & maybe even enjoy comms#it's somehow easier to be enthusiastic about commissions when i know the money will be going to buy a Cool Sword instead of food
