Book Blurb:
I'll make it clear from the start: I did not kill Hugh Henry Van Boren. I didn't even help…Well, not intentionally.
All Jess Choudhary wants is to keep her head down, do her work, and make it through high school without any problems. As a scholarship student—and one of only two students of Indian heritage—her future at the elite school depends on her ability to keep a low profile and spotless record. But when one of the most popular and richest kids in the school ends up dead in the exact same way as a character in a short story she wrote, Jess unintentionally finds herself at the center of the investigation.
And then Jess receives an anonymous text thanking her for the inspiration.
As rumors run rampant about who the murderer could be, Jess knows if she doesn't solve this mystery herself, she'll finally have something in common with Hugh: she'll be dead too.
Review:
When Jess Choudhary writes up a murder story for her creative writing class, she never expects it to actually happen... and now the killer is leaving her notes and she has to figure out who did it before she is blamed for the murder. All Jess was ever meant to do was keep her head down, keep up her scholarship, and get through highschool. As a scholarship student and one of the only 2 students of Indian heritage, Jess is a rarity in her elite school.... and when one of the most popular and richest kid who happens to be dating Jess's friend ends up murdered in the same manner as she wrote in her fictional creative writing story.... Jess finds herself at the center of the investigation. When she receives an anonymous message from the killer thanking her for the inspiration for the murder... Jess knows she needs to figure it out before she is blamed or becomes the next victim. In a school of filthy rich kids, elitist, and secret societies... betrayals lie await at ever corner and Jess doesn't know who she can trust. Anyone of the students could be the murderer and with a secret society going after her as well... Jess has her work cut out for her if she wants to figure out who the real killer is. This was such a fun murder mystery read. I loved all the twist and turns and really enjoyed Jess as a protagonist, her voice was fun to read from and she was an interesting character to follow along with. I liked how everything wrapped up and the mystery flowed really well. It's a fun read and one I'd definitely recommend for mystery lovers!

This Book Kills
The murder mystery genre seems to be having quite the resurgence in both books and film. And This Book Kills is a worthy addition to the pantheon of modern whodunnits.
Jess Choudhary is a pupil at Heybuckle, the most exclusive private school in England. Ex- Alumni have gone on to be significant politicians and journalists. Then a pupil is murdered, and Jess finds herself at the heart of the investigation. The death of a pupil at such a well renowned school obviously has consequences; especially if, like Jess, your prestigious scholarship is threatened by a…

“Did you ever think,” [Mr. Willet] said, when I told him about Hugh taking the short story, “that you might be looking at this the wrong way around– just like you’ve looked at everything else the wrong way around?” Gee, Mr Willet, did you ever think that if you said exactly what you were thinking in a way people could understand, you’d be, like, ninety per cent less likely to be murdered by an irate student like me?"

So, I went to the bookstore again yesterday. Yes, I know I have book addiction…..I’ll admit it. I think reading from my own personal library and buying books to add to my library are two different hobbies. I enjoy both in equal measure. Use to, when I was a kid and didn’t have much money, I had to rely on the library to supply my reading addiction. Now that I have a job, I can spend my own money…

At first it was a bit slow and the storytelling kind of inconsistent in a weird way but the book is written in the main characters perspective, so she wrote the book after the events took place. It took me a while to realise that the storyline may be this weird because we’re only getting it from her perspective and not just bad writing (though I’m still not a hundred percent sure about that). There were a lot of plot twists that I could see coming miles away and I at first chugged it up to the book just not being that great but the final plot twist was really genius in a way of not seeing it coming because I only had the informations that the main character had without even knowing that I did. The language still wasn’t so good at times and even if that was on purpose it’s not too nice to read. That’s why it only got a seven from me but besides that the book is really worth the read.

Funniest thing I’ve seen on tiktok are those sigma male boys getting mad that American psycho was written by a gay man and going “well I like fight club better” buddy I’ve got some world ending devastating news for you
#I don’t like fight club#but other people do#gay people on their way to write some of the most relevant popular influencial literature of the 90s#solius posting#this shit also kills me because both of those books have. OVERT homosexual themes and moments

*reasonable restrictions are ones you consider fair for your own safety or wellbeing, especially for things like graphic depictions of violence in relation to your age at the time (i.e. "you can read this when you're older")
not sure if books you read were banned? here is a archive of the top 10 most banned/challenged books from 2001-2022, hosted by the American Library Association
as well as the Wikipedia page for the Most Commonly Challenged Books in the United States
Wikipedia page for Books Banned by the Government, organized by region/country
#my mom encouraged me to read banned books + owned a lot herself#(color purple to kill a mockingbird the outsiders animal farm of mice & men etc)#i had very few restrictions like reading too much or too graphic of horror because i would have frequent nightmares#the books weren't taken away from me & it was ultimately my choice

going to chb must be crazy like imagine sharing a camp with
-one of the strongest demigods ever who's saved the world like at least 3 times, fought multiple gods & titans and WON (and is a tartarus survivor)
-the literal main architect of OLYMPUS who's also saved the world multiple times (also tartarus survivor)
-THE lord of the wild who's also close friends with the first two (and has helped save the world multiple times)
-an emo kid from the 1930s who again helped save the world and is also a tartarus survivor (TWICE)
-a son of apollo who survived tartarus with nothing but cargo shorts and sheer will (pun intended)
-the main designer and builder for the argo II, also the first hephaestus kid to have fire powers since hundreds of years ago (did i mention killed gaea? no? yeah he did that too)
-a girl who somehow charmspeak-ed gaea into falling back asleep (also side note daughter of super famous actor because why not)
-pretty much everybody is a two-time war veteran
-THE GOD APOLLO who just sometimes comes down to visit in the form of a teenage boy
-did i mention dionysus, god of wine madness and theatre
-also chiron, trainer of pretty much every greek hero ever
#shit's crazy#theyre basically living history#percy is kinda the new hercules except less macho manly man#'oh who's killed this guy before' 'percy jackson'#like can you imagine playing capture the flag with rhese bastards#ur scaling the wall and you see these mfs make it up there in like 2 jumps#they arent allowed to be in the same team for any of the games because you KNOW theyd beat everyone else's asses#people are fighting to have percy on their team#not to mention the gods that just pop in for a visit every now and then#like at this point the fact that DIONYSUS is their camp counselor isnr even that surprising anymore#some scrawny teen dude shows up and will's just 'oh hey dad'#'YOU MEAN APOLLO????' 'yeah lol he just visits sometimes'#pretty much everyone there has survived at least one war#the background characters must feel hella overshadowed bcs what does it matter if u won a game when the guy in the cabin across has like#saved the world. 3 different times. like wtf#pjo books#leo valdez#trials of apollo#lester papadopoulos#pjo fandom#percy jackson#grover underwood#nico di angelo#annabeth chase#pjo hoo toa#heroes of olympus#piper mclean#chiron#camp half blood#pjo text post

seriously have been thinking about this all night long. call me autistic but the fact that 90% of workplaces the point is not to get your work done and then be done doing it but to instead perform an elaborate social dance in which you find something to do even when you're done doing everything you need to do in order to show your fellow workers that you, too, are Working . because you are at Work . disgusting why cant we all agree that if there is no work immediately to be done. we just dont do anything
#i personally like to not be doing things constantly at all times. it stresses me out#i know there are ppl who thrive on cosntant activity#but me i like to chill out.#and the problem then becomes that i only ACTIVELY remember to do work and Find More Work To Do when im stressed#at the thought that others might want to see me working#if im ever relaxed i just dont look for stuff to do#catch 22 of modern work culture which permeates even ostensibly noncapitalist structures like public libraries#for instance: will it really kill anybody if the books get shelved by me now after a very busy day?#or shelved tomorrow morning by. well probably me since i'll be the one at the desk#not in the slightest#but it was work that wasnt being immediately done by me. therefore it was incorrect behavior#that i failed to identify because my instinct is to relax when not immediately presented with a Situation#this got me labeled as 'having no initiative' by my dad from a very early age#and even as an adult i still feel like im a child with no initiative

Taco Crimes
Donnie would absolutely blow a fuse if someone ruined their books with how sacred he was to that mint condition comic, and I’m sure Mikey thinks cooking is an art. Cross either of them and it’s hell to pay!
I read a lot of book series that had been handed down to me by my siblings, but you could really tell whose they were before based on their condition. One sibling left foodstains and dog ears, another left spine breaks and ripped paperbacks, and the final would threaten my life if I so much as dented a page. Such is life with shared things
I guess you could say those books were well loved, for better or for worse lol
