I drew all of these today, first for the Sunstreaker design and then I got through all of them because I’m really not sure how to spend a Tuesday afternoon now

Like side tangent, I am not sure what to do with my time on my off days anymore. So I have my classes end by 12:20 every day, and on Tuesdays and Fridays in particular, I have nothing else to do for the rest of the day (the others have something or other going on, usually work). I would like to spend that time doing actual schoolwork, like I have an assignment due by tonight, but I didn’t know what to do immediately after coming back to my dorm, so I decided to keep drawing, and now it’s around 5 or so and my day’s gonna be over in a few hours, so I should get working on my schoolwork

I feel like I wasted the day, but what am I supposed to do the whole day? I’m not sure anymore, because I have way more free time than last semester

But anyways, back on to the actual art

So I started off today trying to draw a Sunstreaker design more based off of TFA, since I thought that’d be cool. But I really didn’t know what I was doing with it, so eventually I just decided to draw his g1 design instead, so I at least somewhat know what I’m doing

I also had some of his toy designs as well, so I took from that too. This goes for all the characters by the way, particularly with the tires

But yeah after finishing Sunstreaker, I figured might as well draw Sideswipe too. And then after that I decided to do Bluestreak and Cliffjumper, for reasons I don’t really know. Like okay, I knew after Sideswipe I wanted to do more with my poses, and so I had the mental image for Cliffjumper’s pose, but for whatever reason I ended up drawing Bluestreak before that

But anyways yeah. Character and posing practice this is

I think Sideswipe turned out the worst in all honesty. I just didn’t know as much what I wanted to do with him, and his helmet was confusing for me to draw. Probably shouldn’t have tried drawing him from an upwards perspective

But other than him I think the others turned out pretty good. No real notes on Sunstreaker. Bluestreak I feel is off in some way, but it’s also in a way I like. Cliffjumper’s probably second worst, but not as bad. I think it’s mostly the head, and I think it came out wonky like that because I drew it last and the original rectangle was not at that angle

I was going to elaborate more, but I really only have thoughts about Cliffjumper and how I like him small and violent, but I don’t want him only associated with Bumblebee. And also generally that Sunstreaker should be in more things

So I guess we stop here? Not really much to say on my end. But I don’t really know what to add on here

I just think some of these guys are neat, and also I needed something to draw today

I still need to work more on more dynamic poses, as well as bettering the anatomy in general, but we’re getting there

i've been seeing a lot of posts recently about the proship community, and their "obsession" with complaining/talking about them, saying stuff like "i miss when fandom was more than just "i ship taboo things and that's my entire personality"", and i think i disagree with a lot of those posts.

the thing with fandom is that it used to be that way, UNTIL antis started policing what you could and couldn't do. it was inevitable that some of us were gonna double down and talk very openly about all the dark stuff we ship. is it totally reactionary? yes. was it without cause? no. this stuff doesn't happen in a vacuum.

but also, like. i feel like y'all (not you reading this post but. the ppl that make those kinds of posts) are missing out on a few very key details, being:

the proship community was started as a reaction to antis in the first place. they are intrinsically linked together, whether we like it or not. being proship is reactive, fork found in kitchen,

all these different terms exists because of antis, not because of proshippers. complain all you want about "x/y is a comship!" or "a/b is a darkship!", because i agree, it doesn't matter! it's all shipping in the end! antis are the ones that actually gaf because to them it matters A LOT if you ship The Bad Thing™,

fandom is what you make of it. if you don't wanna ship taboo things, have at it! do what you want forever, but the need to shame people that like darkships and talk abt it openly on their blogs is odd,

you don't have to tag generic fandom stuff with "proship", you are allowed to exist in the main tags!! you don't have to go searching for positive fandom stuff in the proship tags!!

i think y'all forget this is a blogging site, not just a social media site. i'm here for my *own* enjoyment, entertainment, and sometimes catharsis. if i see an annoying take from an anti, i'm gonna post about it, bc it's *my* blog. yes, we can (and often do) block antis, but that doesn't mean we can't bitch about them. the blocking feature exists for everyone, and if you don't like what those kinds of proshippers talk about, block the individual, not just the tags.

like, i'm sorry to break it to you, but things don't have to be all unicorns-and-rainbows positive all the time. sometimes we wanna bitch and complain, and that's OKAY!

there's nothing wrong with having your "entire personality" being liking darkships! Kingdom Hearts and the Cost of Empathy

While making yesterday's post I was reminded of this other topic that had been giving me brainworms lately. And I was going to do this on another day but the thought bugged me constantly so I'm just gonna let this out now.

Part ??? of Yoroshiu just reiterating obvious points that have been chewed on a billion times

Kingdom Hearts presents empathy as a means to have characters connect with each other in both the emotional sense and as a literal ability of sorts. If someone is happy, that joy is shared, and if someone is sad, then it's felt on a visceral level.

We've had three characters be confirmed literal empaths:

Sora, Xehanort, and Baldr

And if you know, you know.

It says a lot that 2/3 ended up being antagonists and when we look at the events that shaped them, we see how Kingdom Hearts handles the negative effects of being that exposed to others emotions, especially when put it certain circumstances.

(I didn't really want to use screenshots I used in my last post but these two shots and the following one are important here, even moreso than in the previous one LOL)

In Dark Road, Baldr was shown to be attached to his sister, Hoder, because she being a heart of pure light made him feel safe as, the screenshot shows, he was sensitive to others' hearts. That's part of why it makes Hoder's death so devestating for him.

And for Xehanort, he was able to take in his caretaker's memories and felt a personal and genuine connection with Player and their friends. It's partly why the events of Dark Road hit him so hard. Baldr states that Xehanort shares the same dynamic with Eraqs.

And even for Sora, our current hero, we've seen this Empathy be harmful to him as well. He's felt echoes of the heartache of his Heart Hotel residents (KH2, BBS, etc.) and you can assume how difficult it is to have to handle multiple people's most intense emotions.

And what happens when these characters hit their lowest? Especially when it's in tandem to this Empathy?

They break down, they fall apart, their hearts get wrapped in Darkness.

And what's the factor that turns empathy, the means to bring people together in understanding, into a force that drives people into despair?

Isolation.

If there's one consistent pattern with these characters is that being alone ends up contributing to the downfall.

Baldr falls apart because he's completely isolated from his friends in a completely white room with no windows for SEVEN DAYS. How did Odin think this was a good idea?????

(Day 1 vs Day 7)

Xehanort is a person who prefers doing things on his own. This is what makes him use others and even other versions of himself as tools for his plan. He gets wrapped up in all his plans and essentially becomes a more refined Baldr by the end.

Sora is someone who's tied to a lot of different people and their hearts. This contributes to his heart being broken down and made vulnerable to Darkness, especially with how he was kept alone in his dreams, led further and further away from Riku trying to wake him up.

(Sora being mostly alone in the new saga is going to be interesting. Strel is there but there's probably going to be an effort to isolate him again.)

Being left alone with all these emotions, with no proper way to process it—empathy becomes the most destructive force.

Despite what the mainstream might think, Kingdom Hearts has always believed in the proper balance between Light and Dark, Good and Bad. Empathy is good, it connects hearts together, but at its most extreme, it poses a danger. It can overwhelm a person and make them expel it to the world in the worst way possible.

Being completely alone with no forms of support turns compassion into despair.

Something I’ve seen a lot recently is other countries (mainly European) dunking on Americans for saying they’re “Irish” or “German” or whatever and saying “you’re not X nationality, you’re American”. But the thing they don’t realize is that for an American, it’s the same thing. Since America was made of mostly immigrants (save for the native population whose land we stole). When we say “I’m Irish/German/etc”, we’re saying that’s our ethnicity, not our nationality. Cuz save for native Americans, being “American” itself isn’t an ethnicity.

Idk, it just annoys me when someone says “oh you’re not X” when like. Literally most of my ancestry is, and the only reason I live here is cuz they needed to escape British genocide
